Awesome. Not to mention he's hilarious so it makes the dry subject of ecology a bit more interesting. Always gives bonus quizzes before exams and makes the final exam optional. Also very helpful in his office hours. My only complaint is his SI leader, who was probably the most useless and unhelpful SI I have ever seen at VCU.

Wow this is a hard class. It is a requirement for every biology major and you must get at least a C in this class. You are graded based off of your 4 tests and a final and one of the lowest scores will be dropped. The tests are HARD. Some of the most difficult ones I have taken at this school. Be ready for this class and DO NOT slack off like I did

Dr. Crawford is a wonderful professor :-) His lecture is what's going to be on the Exams. If you study hard, there is no way to not end up with an A in the class. Just write everything he says during his lectures...making flashcards has helped me a lot. I end up with 109 % ...extra credit opportunities are given to you :-)

Being that this is a 300 level class, considerable amount of studying and preparation are required to do well. In general, I found Dr.Crawford's class to be fair not super difficult but not easy. Record the lectures and only consult your book on the material mentioned in class. Read the questions very carefully on test day as well as he is tricky.

Go to class, read the textbook, and record lectures. Tests are kind of picky at times but fair overall. He also gives some extra credit which can help. He also teaches the lab, which is really fun and requires a lot of writing skill. I highly recommend it despite its tendency to be disorganized.

Crawford doesn't teach the lab (only recitation), but the preceptors are awesome. The class is EXTREMELY writing-intensive; prepare for at least 4 hours of work per week outside of class. An A is possible if you really try, it's just a lot of writing to keep up with. No true need for the texts they "require." Ellen was a great preceptor-choose her!

Funny professor, made dry material fun. Lectures are detailed, but recording/writing everything down helped me a lot. Everyone complains about his exams. Yes they are hard, but honestly it's because most people don't pay attention during class and write everything down. What do you expect? I got an A because I actually listened in class.

Tests can be super tough because he likes details. However, he's a really good professor and loves teaching students. I absolutely loved his stories in class. READ the textbook, but don't forsake lectures. They're so important! If you think a fact isn't important, it is. Write it down.

KEYS: Go to class, review your notes and especially the figures in the book that he references, he will ask detailed questions on the exams. His exams are a combination of TF, multiple choice and fill in the blank. He has been very strict about no writing on the exams at all. Exams are tough but he curves. There are 4 exams and a final, drops 1.

Dr. Crawford is the best professor for biology at VCU. Attendance is somewhat mandatory due to clicker questions and some minor information he goes over in lecture that is not provided in the powerpoint slides. Test are NOT hard if you are studying your lecture notes and do the online assessment. I WOULD take all my biology related classes with him

Honestly, this class is really easy. I took this class at the same time as Organic Chemistry, which I would never recommend that anyone ever does because both are really time-consuming. All you need to do is show up, skim the diagrams he tells you to, and you'll be fine. The curve he gives is pretty nice, he's a bro, I'd take his class again.

Let me just say he is entertaining in class but he can sometimes get annoying in my opinion. He sometimes spends too much time joking that we have to rush through material or it's not fully explained. Class was mandatory for me because he started doing clicker questions. Tests are elaborate but if you study you should be fine. Gives extra credit.

Ignore the 317 horror stories. He literally gives you everything you need to know through his lectures. The key is to go to class and write down every word (record!). Only use the textbook to review the figures he mentions in class. If you skip class and try to learn from just the book, you will become overwhelmed and will do poorly on his tests!

Write down every word he says, and RECORD lectures. Listen to the recordings on 1.5x or 2x speed to make sure you didn't miss anything and to reinforce concepts. For tests, no need to memorize the notes just be familiar with them. Do that, and you will find tests pretty easy. Drops lowest test or the final. Gives up to 20 points of extra credit.

Seems a bit egotistical and worried nobody will attend his lecture, therefore requiring attendance by not posting powerpoints online which could be easily memorized. This requires listening to his regurgitation of the powerpoints in class and being forced to type a manuscript. Also has random outbursts at students in an attempt to be humorous.
