awesome teacher... i love his sarcasm.. sometimes before class, tries to get the kids to talk about their weekends, etc. makes u feel comfortable. kind of reminds you of a hippy with his long hair, but its cute. down to earth. no hw ever! except papers
no homework whatsoever. three or four papers, and 3 tests determine your grade. read and listen and you got a B. sometimes notes are a little unorganized, but class is fairly easy, and he is a cool guy.
He is a cool guy and is really laid back. His tests are hard but he is always willing to help you out. He will help you with writing your paper as well. I would recommend taking his class.
Great guy, good teacher, very helpful, willing to take time to thouroughly explain the material. Tells you straight out what he's looking for in papers, but still gives you the freedom to take your own stance. If you take notes and have a basic understanding of the material, you should do fine.
Very clear, no homework except essays. He's pretty laid back and down to Earth. He gives you the test essay questions ahead of time to. Just go to class and study a bit you'll dofine.
rock hard body for starters. this man knows a lot about history. fair tests and no hw. take him if you need a history class.
Sarcastic and laid back. I enjoyed this class, but you have to work hard to do well on tests/papers. You'll do fine if you pay attention to the lectures and study the text.
He is just a bad teacher period- he doesn't help much. He is laid back but he grades you on whether he knows you or not. His essay grading is very biased and only works if you agree with his odd opinions. I am sorry but I disagree with everyone else that reviewed him.
Not a bad professor at all. He's very straightforward, and makes sure that you know what needs to be done in his class. There's very little room for error if you show up to classes. Just read the book, and take decent notes. You'll do fine on his tests.
He is a really good teacher who will help anyone when they need it. The tests are fair and his notes are good. He tells great historical stories as sidenotes, and it makes the class much more interesting. Take his class!
Great Class, He is fun and energetic and cares a lot about history. If you attend class and read a little before a test you will be fine!
Eddie is a very laid back gentleman with an uncanny sense of historical humor. He has a tendancy to play favorites but if you show up for class and he knows your name, it will help your grade. Very demanding teacher, but will give you a fair grade if you show effort. You will have to do some work.
Class fairly simple, reviews the whole book with his lecture notes. Ask for a test review, he will probaly give you one.
Mr. Dandrow is really cool guy. He's nice and will always give you help if you ask for it. Beware of the work required though. There are so many papers your head spin. But if you come to class and are vocal you'll do fine. If you're not afraid of work definetly take him.
A really really cool professor, but WAY too much work. If you are looking for an easy class, DO NOT take this one.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! ****!! Acts like this class if the meaning of life or a top level graduate class...He literally makes your tests and papers BLEED!! Thinks he knows everything, b/c he has a masters in Ancient History...What the HELL can u do with that?!?! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I love history and this professor made me loath it. He acts as though he's God's gift to UCF's History Dept and seriously needs an attitude change. If you can stand to watch listen to a young professor talk about everything he knows (p.s. everyting he knows is the only right way) take the class.
awsome professor!
Too much writing! Paper every Thursday. He grades pretty hard. Be sure to take good notes b/c his "quizes (Thursday's paper)" is based on it. You take at least 5 full pages of notes everyday!!! Lectures are okay, he's kinda funny, but a hard grader.
Mr. Dandrow is a really down to earth teacher with a fun sense of humor. He makes history interesting by telling it like a long story. He's very devoted to his subject, and is really informative. His comparisons and love for "the mongols" also make the class entertaining. The only thing that was trying was the papers due every week.
So far, very smart and informative. And very funny.
Great Prof.

Awesome Prof. He teaches history as if it were a story. Makes jokes all the time. Only thing you might think is hard is that there are 2 TESTS, 1 FINAL, and one 8-page PAPER. However, he helps you a lot. He will not let you fail. Defiantly take this teacher. So far, I'm getting an A/B in the class. Trust me, it's not that hard. :-)
BORING..., teaches in monotone voice, tries to make jokes and is not very specific in what he is looking for. 2 exams, 1 final and 1 history paper. I wouldn’t recommend taking this class if you’re looking forward to learning about history. But if you don’t care then I’d suggest you take this class keep up the reading assignments and you’ll do fine.
Funny and insightful. He is not boring at all... He is very helpful, if you ask questions.
This is a class you're going to have to work for, but it is worth it. Dandrow is a great professor and I would reccommend him to anyone who doesnt mind a bit of a challenge. He makes history fun and interesting and you can tell he truly loves the subject and wants everyone to learn and enjoy it. 3 exams, 1 paper (8 pgs), and a final.
You are going to have to work in the class so don't take it if you want an easy A. The 3 tests can be tricky and you REALLY have to study for them. One paper...he gives it to you at the beginning of the semester and is very helpful on it. Participation points too :)I enjoyed the class and would recommend him.He tries to make history interesting.
This class was crazy hard. When he lectured he went so fast, that you couldn't keep up. There were only 3 test and one paper to turn in. NOT AND EASY CLASS!
He's awesome! Dry wit and alot of interesting information. Alot of notes and sometimes he speaks kind of rapid fire but if you study at least 2 days before the test and come to class on a regular base you should be fine. The paper is a good chance to show off a little achedemic skill, if you don't mind spitting out 8 pages. I LOVED THIS CLASS!!
good teacher. be prepared to work for a decent grade. not too many chances to bring up your grade if you bomb a test. paper is really easy but the tests are not as much. they are multiple choice but don't let that deceive you.
while he seemed to know his material, his liberal bias made some of his key arguements go in one ear and out the other. also, he is very weird about his "paper" you have to write so make sure you source every little detail or hell go on a power trip and fail your paper. but i got an A regardless.
worst teacher ever. he goes way to fast in his lectures and goes off on tangets about nothing. the class is very unorganized and no real instruction is given about his final assignment which is worth almost half of your grade.
he is so good,-the first few weeks ure like what a dumbo, but then, youre gonna absolutely love him---at least i did! easy, funny, interesting, and he's such a cutie pie. u think his tests are gonna be hard, they're not. just now the basic significance of the terms and dates he gives you and ure good to go. awesome guy! take him, charismatic guy;)
Incoherent and somewhat disjointed manner of lecturing. Although crudeness and humor are elements of his lectures, they are also very enduring (usually the whole class period). Does not detect personality in your papers so don't even try.
not a single test in this class all papers. Short 1.5-2 pgs but he dosent grade that easily you do have to put some work into them. Hes fair and always offers for you to email your paper to him early and he'll give you advice on how to get a better grade. Talks super fast tho for notes. overall wasnt easy but a great prof. and good class! got an A
As long as you go to clas and REALLY pay attention. You'll do fine. And take good notes. Uses notes much more than book.
He's a great professor. He loves history and loves teaching it. If you go to class and take notes I don't see any reason why should get anything less than a B. You won't use the text book all that much, but it is definately a good tool for studying. Overall he is a good professor and i reccomend you take a class with him.
He is a really intelligent person and really likes the subject! He can be funny sometimes and his tests are okay. No powerpoint or anything, just straight notes. Don't bother with the text. Not a bad choice for history if you go to class and pay attention.
really nice guy!! but amh2010 isn't an easy class and he doesn't give good study guides or really follow the book. i wouldn't take this class if i didn't have to.
Awesome Teacher! Three tests that are not cumulative and an eight page paper due when you take the last test. Study for the tests and write a decent paper and you'll do fine. I went to his office hours for help on the essay and he is more than willing to help out.
So tihs teacher looks so much like Joey Gladtsone from Full house hah! He is really easy teacher! Alot of note taking and ur gunna wanna go to class and take notes! He gives a study guide for all his exams that basically r the exam! Dont really need the books, 8 Page paper due at the end of the semester and final not cum. Recommended!!
I really liked this class, he has a different style of teaching- not a boring lecture, he tells history like a story. Very helpful. he wants his students to do well. my favorite teacher of the semester. 3 tests (curves) and an 8 page paper.
Professor Dandrow is awesome. You have to go to class and take good notes. You also have to make sure you know the terms on the study guide. He is entertaining and so helpful. He's really funny and his class is really cool.
he is definatley one of my favorite teachers. go to class & take notes, & you should get an A. you HAVE to pay attention though. he's such a nice guy, & really makes history understandable.
Smart and Funny, he is one of the best profs I've had at UCF.
He's so funny and he makes it really interesting, even if you weren't interested in the subject matter already. I'd recommend him to everyone.
Professor Dandrow was one of the best History teachers I've ever had. He would lecture the full 3 hours, but was very intertaining to listen to. It's important that you take accurate notes of what he is talking about. His lectures are more thorough than the books assigned. There was 3 exams and a ten page paper. He's also super cute!
Prof. Dandrow is the best history professor I've ever had! He makes his classes fun & his stories of a lecture are entertaining. Show up and take good notes and you'll do fine in his class. He gives study guides for his 3 non-cummulative tests and there is a 8-10 pg. paper. Dandrow has a great sense of humor and makes staying the whole 3 hours ok.
He is really funny and entertaining and knows a lot about his subject. I highly recommend him.
dandrow is funny, he tries to make is interesting. i HATE history, but i went everytime. no use in buying the books except for the one paper, but you can go to the library. take notes on computer way easier. he loves history, it shows. gives you a review everytime, almost all on the test. study for those, and you'll do fine.
Prof. Dandrow is an awesome professor, I highly recommend him! very helpful
not an easy teacher, but if you do the work you will do well. i learned alot from this class and would take him again.
Very funny man. His exams are easy, provided you prepare for the essay portion. He definetly loves the subject and will often pass around his ancient coin collection. The eight page paper is tough, though, be sure to start working on it as soon as possible.
He is a really good professor.
This class is more like Coffee table history. Light, taken in sips and very refreshing...leaving you satisfied at the end. I missed my final because I was late...I expected to get bombed on the grade..but in walks dandrow, shaking his head..smiling and saying "Bad..bad.."..while letting me take the final right then. Believes in his subject
Awesome teacher never was very interested in history but defitley going to take another one of his classes. Just all in all an interesting and great professor.
best history teacher i have ever taken. if you have the chance, TAKE HIM! he's kinda softspoken but he will have you listening to his every word. this is not very easy, however if you attend class and do the readings, there is no reason you shouldnt get an A.
An excellent prof who knows alot about his subject. He is very funny and the stories he tells make the class even more interesting. Definitely take him if you get the chance!
Don't need the book. The only information on the tests are from his lectures. Pretty entertaining and he really knows the subject matter and loves it. You cannot miss a class though,a lot of note-taking & information, but if you review your notes and utilize the study guides the tests aren't too difficult. 4 25 question tests w/ an essay for each.
A+ for this professor! Loves to include all the gory details of history like sex, murder, and general carnage. Makes for an interesting lecturer... YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO OPEN THE BOOK! Just go to class, take good notes, and ace the test. The best part is that his classes are actually worth going to, he will definitely keep your attention.
I'm not sure if it's his superb command of language use or his obvious passion for the subject that brings such life to his lectures, but he's good. His offbeat sense of humor doesn't hurt either. Tests are true to lectures so participation is highly rewarded. Take accurate notes and memorize the sequence of events, not just what they were.
Excellent teacher. Very funny; my kind of humor. This is a great class. Knowing where you came from cannot be more fun. The exams are 50% essay (written at home, you're given a week to write it) 50% multiple choice. Go to class, and/or study the terms on the study guide and you'll be fine. He elaborates on a lot you don't need but it's interesting.
Everything to be learned in this class is general knowledge. The lectures are very entertaining, if there is anything on the review sheet that you don't already know just look it up on wikipedia. Essay topics are very basic, overall great teacher.
One of the best profs I've had at UCF. I think he knows too much.
Great teacher!
awesome class, even if you dont like history. take him! you wont regret it
One of my favorite classes. I actually didn't need this class, but I enjoyed World Civ. 1 so much I decided to take #2. Although attendance is not mandatory, he only lectures, so you need to go to class to get the notes. He knows his info. so well its crazy. He is also very interested in his topic and actually goes into great detail.
AWESOME TEACHER! I'm currently in his world civ 2 class and im gonna take his world civ 1 class next fall. just go to class and take good notes, and it will be good times had by all
Dandrow is the man! Very interesting class; covers lots of materials with excessive detail. Shows how what he teaches is significant in today's world. Tests are a bit tough and assigns an 8-10 pg. paper that you don't want to put off to the last minute. He has a great sense of humor and always entertains/interacts with the students.
Funny young guy, doesnt use powerpoints he just talks all class. But his lectures are interesting and usually keep you awake. If you take good notes you never need the book bc his tests are multiple choice straight from the notes. Also requires essays before each test but they are easy. His final exam essay was "What did you learn this semester?"
He is incredibly bright and articulate and makes history very interesting and fun.
Dandrow is a good History prof. Class attendance isnt mandatory but his lectures are everything thats on the test. I barely read the book and i got B's on the test so.. He can get really excited about something and go off topic for a while but he usually comes back..usually. Great prof!
I absolutely love his class! This man knows absolutely everything and makes the class very fun and entertaining. He doesn?t use PowerPoint slides for his lectures like many professors seem to do now a days, but he lectures from the top of his head. That?s why attendance is very important. The overall grade consists of 3 tests and one 8 pages resear
Very funny, in a nerdy way, not so low brow, but not exactly hilarious. Very friendly & very approachable unless you're socially inept yourself. Very good teacher, very knowledgeable. No need for a book, but only 4 grades so don't mess up. Some Multiple Choice, some 1 page essays.
Intelligent, attractive young professor who really knows his stuff. Lectures from his head, so you will have to take good notes. Textbooks are good just for additional information. 3 tests and 1 paper.
Dandrow breathes the material he teaches which makes learning more fun( and he's funny) but theres only 3 tests and a paper with the tests sometimes can be a little hard. Class attendance not mandatory, but a necessity to pass the class. Reccomendable definitely.
An interesting teacher to listen to in lectures. Doesn't set a bar for performance...grades the midterm and final on different scales. If you don't really LOVE the subject, don't take him. You must LOVE, or at least have an interest in, this subject, or you will get lost quickly.
Dandrow is awesome!!! To the previous critic--Why on earth would you take upper level courses you are not interested in? He knows so much about Roman History and is extremely helpful in clarifying concepts, terms, etc. His class does require alot of independent work and reading, but I guess that is what upper level classes should be about.
I took him for both World Civ I & II because he is just that awesome. He knows everything. Go to class because he doesn't use the book and if you miss the lectures you will have no idea whats going on. He gives review sheets and the tests aren't bad. He is pretty funny and he lectures in a narrative form so it keeps you awake and interested.
the teacher knows what he is talking about, therefore making the class a lot more interesting! I wont lie, but at times the class is kind of monotonous and reaching the verge of being boring. Nevertheless, Dandrow is a great teacher with the funniest sarcastic humor EVER! Definetely worth taking.
Dandrow is an excellent professor with a VERY good sense of humor. He knows a lot about the material and tries to show the many reasons why things happen. He only gives a few assignments (3 tests), so it is important to be in class and take good notes. I highly recommend him.
he is a good teacher and has some good jokes and stuff every now and then, but there is a lot of information! in my class , world civ 1, the review sheet was huge and each test was only 20 questions. most uncool.I ended up with a C. v_v
This guy as to be the best teacher I have ever had at UCF. I'm a business major and I even took his European History class as well as an elective. He has a book for his class but you don't really need it because the man is a living, breathing information library of World History. If you want someone who is funny and knows their stuff. This is it.
This guy is great! Wow!
I found this class really easy! You don't even have to go to class. He gives notes but he doesn't test you on really specific ideas. He tests you on general knowledge considering all the random highly specific stuff he tells you. He also gives you a study guide which is a great idea to do and study! Easy class!
Good teacher! He is fun and interesting... however you have to pay attention and take fast notes. His lecture style is strictly verbal. No powerpoint or anything written. So pay attention in class. He does not use the book. He will tell you if you listen and take good notes dont bother buying it. Decently hard class but good professor.
THIS MAN IS THE HISTORY GOD OF UCF - if you have to take history as a Gen Ed, then take this man because you WILL LOVE HIM and it's EASY. And if you're a history major, then TAKE HIM because he's AMAZING - you can't NOT love him, b/c it's impossible. If you take his class and don't like it, then there's something wrong with you, go get yourself che
Prof. Dandrow really knows his stuff. There's nothing better than walking into a class and having a professor that can prove history books wrong. And if you go to his office hours, he really takes the time to help you with what you need. Definitely take this man if you have to take a history class, you won't regret it :).
world civ 1- only take this class if you LOVE history and are majoring in it!!! ill give it to him, he really knows his stuff but i think he forgets this is an intro/freshman level class. his tests are all from lectures that he goes extremely fast on. good luck, your going to need it
This teacher is so nice. He teaches from his own knowledge so no texbook is needed, you should go to class to take notes though. He makes history fun and interesting. Tests aren't hard, doesn't give homework. You should definitely take him.
Dandrow is an awesome professor! His ancient Greece class was a lot of fun and I learned much. There are a series of small papers based on a lot of reading, but he introduces you to the important primary sources. Highly recommended!!!
Dandrow knows everything there is to know about history...always enlightens the class with funny anecdotes. Didnt get to alot of the material on the study guides (because he explained everything else so thoroughly) but he never tests on what he hasnt gone over in class. Dont buy the book. Be prepared to take ALOT of notes, fast (i recommend typing)
I AM CONSIDERING MAJORING IN HISTORY BECAUSE OF THIS GUY!
100% lecture teaching style. Way too much info before admin. his exams. Initially very intersting but now very dull. Tests are half multiple choice, half essay. Ive averaged an 85 on 2 tests so far. Seems tough to get an A as i study a lot. Really knows his stuff though. Easy C, moderately easy B.
Dandrow is one of my favorite professors. I'm not a history buff or anything, but he makes it interesting. Not necessary to buy the book, you can look up terms for the test on the study guide. Try and write essays that aren't so cookie-cutter, he likes when your different. Go to class and you'll do fine. The views not bad either. :)
History majors/minors rejoice! If you like history you are going to enjoy this class. If you dont, then dont take it and leave a seat for someone who does!!! Dandrow is fantastic!
This class was pretty easy. There are only 4 exams, so if you don't like that sort of thing, don't take it! His lectures are fabulous, interesting, and funny, but his tests don't really match up to them very well. He's a major history buff and doesn't do well with stupid questions. But overall I thoroughly enjoyed his class.
I went to every single class, took really good notes, studied and still ended up with a B. He's a very nice guy but if you are not interested in history (like me) then this class will get boring fast. The class is strictly lecture so if you like powerpoints or at least handouts (like me) it will be a snooze fest and you will get distracted.
He is eloquent, witty and at times very sarcastic. He knows a lot about Roman History and presents it in a clear and interesting way. Highly recommended!
Interesting lectures. I suggest literally overpreparing for tests. side note: if you are interesed in doing an independent study, directed research, or a thesis, seems like he would be a good professor to go to
"and it's good times had by all."(thats his favorite quote, you will hear it more than once.) Dandrow is a GREAT teacher with a good sense of humor!! Im not a history person at all and I went to every class! His lectures are very interesting and easy to follow. Take good notes and study.
One of my favorite history professors at UCF. Survey class is a breeze (as long as you study) but upper level classes are graded much more strictly. He's hilarious and very friendly but definitely not a pushover. You definitely need to put in a good amount of work for a decent grade-esp for upper level.
Mr. Dandrow is a really cool guy, a great teacher, and knows A LOT about history. His class isnt a piece of cake but it isn't that hard either. Just listen to his lectures, take good notes, and study them and you can get an A. And dont be a retard and steal his coin because then he'll give you quizes every day, instead of just 4 Exams all semester.
No joke, he's my favorite teacher/professor I've ever had. He's cynical in the funniest way possible and orates so everyone can understand. Just come to class and take simple notes and you'll do fine. He's easily the only professor I've had who I would want to grab a beer with.
Dandrow fulfills the preconceived notions of history courses as being boring lectures. He never changes it up at all. Every single day, the entire class, you listen and take notes. Does not make the class interesting except for the occasional swear word and sexual reference.
Great teacher, went a little fast at times, but he knows his stuff. There was a lot of reading required, and papers for each book read. He was very slow in grading and returning our papers and midterm. Funny guy, but a little crude at times.
Dandrow is a great teacher and knows his history. He lectures off the top of his head rather than using powerpoints, so pay attention to him and take good notes. He gives you 4 tests throughout the semester, and the 4th test is your final which is not cumulative. Class is usually pretty entertaining! I definitely recommend him as a prof.
Dandrow lectures the entire class and that is all he ever does. He takes forever to return papers, and still at the end of the semester we have not received grades for our last two essays. A lot of extra reading and note taking in addition to text book use and lecture notes. Okay for UCF teacher, but not the best.
It's true Dandrow is sluggish on returning assignments. We have not received grades for our last 3 essays and the semester is over.
Awesome professor. He lectures off the top of his head and he really knows his stuff. I didnt even buy the book and it wasnt needed. 4 tests half of it multiple choice the rest was an essay that you had to turn in the day of the test.Final was a take home test.Don't leave in the middle of lecture it makes him mad and he will call you out.Fun class!
I'm taking him again now for another class. He is very sarcastic and cynical, but he is great at what he does. I'd take him a million times.
Dandrow is AWESOME. Not a pushover though; essays are you're only grades even for final and midterm, but go to class and take notes, use the book as a resource and you'll be fine. Got an A because he makes the class truly interesting! TAKE HIS CLASS
He lectures from what he remembers, not very consistent with his lectures and outlines. You never know what you make on the essays, and takes forever to find out test grades. Seems like he goes off topic a lot and doesn't cover the information needed.
Very smart and funny professor. His exams are multiple choice and essay and he grades on a curve. I recomend him.
All he does is lecture nonstop, literally, and show maps to the class. However, he's funny. His exams are hard if you don't study. There are 4 exams, the final is not cumulative and only 3/4 of exams have essays. If you good at taking notes during lectures, then I strongly recommend him.
he is a great teacher. he knows his stuff which makes his class interesting. he lectures with no powerpoints so be prepared to take lots of notes and pay attention.tests are hard if you don't study and there are essays but they always help your grade. i missed classes and still ended up with a b. i definitely recommend taking him.
Dandrow is an amazing teacher! He really knows what he is talking about and he makes the class fun. Take him if you ever get a chance, you won't regret it!
Dandrow is a pretty good teacher, but he often goes on useless tangents that provide no helpful knowledge. Make sure to take good notes and you'll be set for the tests. Very easy tests, just make sure to know the chronology of events!
I loved his Roman history class. He is funny and filled with knowledge. He does require a lot of reading, though.
BRING YOUR LAPTOP!!! he lectures really quickly and sometimes it's even hard to take notes when you're typing. Tests are ok: half multiple choice/half essay (which you turn in before the test starts). Study a lot for test, doesn't have a review but gives you terms online that you need to know. Read book after class, it ties everything together.
This class is awful. He lectures really fast and you have to basically write down everything he says. He misses a lot of information that is on the exam. He makes the class absolutely boring. Not professional and googles things the entire class. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
He can be sarcastic and kind of arrogant. He talks too fast to understand and expects us all to keep up even though most of us don't have an interest in the material and are just taking the class because we have to. I would reccommend finding a different class!
I would not recommend this class with him! First of all he takes FOREVER to grade the test.He also does not use a microphone while lecturing in a lecture hall!! It is really hard to understand him and since he just lectures off his head with no powerpoint! Test are not that bad the class is just really frustrating for all the other reasons!
He really enjoys the material and makes class interesting. He asks for a lot of reading and is tough on the papers. He gives two take home exams!
If your interested in the topic, as he clearly is, its an excellent class. Show up for the lectures, take good notes. Two take-home essay exams with ID's and short essays, 3 essays on assigned readings (READ THEM). Certainly no push over, but an A quite attainable if you put forth some effort. If you find the topic unappealing, why take the class?
Dandrow, Dandrow, Dandrow. If you don't mind writers cramp, his Rome class is pretty interesting. It is sometimes too much information, so it would be better if he limited his lectures to the information we might retain. Otherwise, the corrupt Roman leaders were fascinating.
Wonderful professor, his tests are easy if you study. He will talk from start to the last minute of class and its alot of information so bring your laptop, he KNOWS his stuff but if you study the night before and morning you will get an A.
I've had him for several classes. He expects what any professor expects and he isn't easy but he is probably the best professor I've ever had. If I hadn't already taken most of the classes he teaches I would take him again. Not easy- totally worth it.
Excellent professor!
Avoid this class. He knows what he is talking about, and sometimes makes funny jokes but does not provide any notes. 90% of the notes is listening to him and trying to write everything down. Its difficult to do this with so many dates and ancient names and terms.
This is a good class and Dandrow is a decent professor. There are no overhead or powerpoint notes. He only lectures but if you listen and write what he says you NEVER need to open a text book. Grades consist of 3 papers and take home midterm and final. The papers are 3 pages in length each and based off REALLY long books. So start reading quickly.
Dandrow is vulgar, slightly eccentric, but completely refreshing and awesome. I don't know how anyone complains about him, he only has a few grades and gives very good guidelines on how to complete them, and keeps the topics interesting and adds humor in his lectures.
Incredibly talented lecturer. Class was entertaining and you learned a wealth of knowledge without realizing it. Assignments are not difficult and are fairly graded. Take home midterm and final and 3-4 papers throughout the semester. Highly recommended.
By far the best professor I've had so far at UCF. His lectures are fascinating and very entertaining, I was never bored in class. Attendance is critical- go to his lectures, pay attention and take thorough notes, do the quizzes and write the papers and you'll excel. I never once looked at the book and got an A. Take his class, you won't regret it!
Awesome professor, the smartest and funniest yet. I would take his class a million times.
Dandrooow!! :D History's not my best subject, but Dandrow makes it interesting. He lectures the whole class, and from basically off the top of his head--he really knows his subject. I think it's cool how he covers certain civilizations that are regularly skipped in other classes/textbooks, despite their achievements. Anyway, take him!
He is very knowledgeable and lectures the whole class period. He has a very crass sense of humor so be prepared for that. Both classes I have taken consisted of three 3-4 pg essays, a take home midterm and take home final. As long as you take good notes you don't need the textbook. He's a really good professor and I high recommend taking him.
Awesome professor!
I've had Dr. Dandrow for both Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Both classes were excellent; Rome is top three of all my classes at the university so far. He knows the subject well and communicates well. Make sure you can write well and are interested in the subject, and you'll do well.
Not a bad professor but not as great as most students suggest that he is. Although I learned a lot, I could name a lot of other professors that are just as knowledgeable and entertaining. He often helps students in his office when needed and is accessible to those who require extra attention.
One of my favorite professors so far. You will not ever need the book. He is extremely funny and one of those teachers who teaches what he loves; he is so knowledgeable. I do not like history and I had to study pretty hard, but I loved Dandrow and it made the class worthwhile. GO TO CLASS and take very detailed notes. Take him!!
Professor Dandrow is the most fascinating, knowledgable and certainly the most bad ass professor i've ever had at UCF. yHe has a passion for History and dictates the lectures from memory and consults his notes merely for dates. Show up with an open mind and don't be afraid to ask questions. he has all of the answers
Smart, funny and cute.
Awesome Professor, don't need the the textbook at all, make sure to go to class he lectures the entire class but makes its really fun. 4 Exams and straight forward do the study guide an you will be good.
I had him for Sex and Gender in Antiquity. It was ery informative and funny at the same time, which is rare among profs.
I took him for an independent study and he was great. He gives tons of reading, but is willing to chat about all of it and point you in the right direction when it comes to the research paper.
Doesnot get back thru e-mail. Don't know how he grades papers, he take forever to post them. The test on-line are okay as long as you have the book. Avoid if you are a history major. Do not use any outside researc, the only thing he wants if the text book, which is not right about everything.
Dr. Dandrow teaches with passion and humor and makes even the most boring material interesting. Although he always seems to be busy, he is very helpful with papers and projects. I highly recommend him.
Awesome class! This guy is very funny and knows his stuff! Highly recommended
Funny guy, knows his stuff, but i found his class to be difficult, i can usually handle classes like this but i could never get perfect on his quizzes no matter what. if your dedicated i would recommend ,hes not bad at all. not a bad work load and plenty of opportunity.
Awesome instructor! Very laid back personality. Knows his stuff and doesn't mind a little student/teacher banter during class. His Roman history class is very interesting! Alot of notes to take, but he keep things fun. Two take home exams and one Veteran's project. Not too bad of a work load. Nice, funny, interesting guy.
Friendly and funny prof who likes the darker side of history. Highly recommended.
Mr. Dandrow is, in my opinion, an excellent teacher. Almost all of his lectures were interesting to listen to, he provides study sheets to go along with his lectures, and his tests are rather simple. Be prepared to write/type quickly though, because all of his tests/quizzes are based on lecture, and he speaks quickly.
Dr. Dandrow is an excellent professor--one of the best I have ever had. It is impressive that he lectures without notes and provides a clear narrative that addresses all the important things about Roman history. He requires two take-home exams (not exactly easy, but you definitely learn), and three papers based on Livy, Vergil and Tacitus.
Professor Dandrow is a great lecturer. Attendance is mandatory. For those of you who like to skip class, do not skip this one. Quizzes and Exams are based off of his manual. I recommend that you record his lectures rather than type or take notes. He talks quickly + many are unable to get everything that he mentions. Office hours are helpful.
I enjoyed having Dr. Dandrow as a professor. He is informative, his lectures are interesting, and all in all I learned something new every day. He assigns a LOT of readings, though, so if you don't think that you can keep up with them, don't take him. It's not difficult to get an A. Just listen to what he says and follow instructions.
Dandrow is great as a teacher and extremely helpful outside of class. If you are interesting in ancient history, he will go out of his way to help you!
Dr. Dandrow is overall the best professor I've had in my 3 years of attending college! He's very friendly, knows everything about everything and is more than happy to fill you in on any curiosities you have. He's hilarious! I walked into this class thinking it was a filler course to help my electives, but this is now my favorite class! TAKE HIM!
Great professor, he really does know his stuff. He teaches off the top of his head and there are no powerpoints, so notes are based off his lectures. Test are pretty easy and are typically graded few hours after the test have been taken. NO ESSAYS! Easy class overall.
A smart and funny professor who really knows his stuff
Love this class and the professor - the class is super interesting with a lot of information, but the exams are extremely easy and usually took me 15 minutes max. He loves the subject and tells it like a story instead of just spitting facts at us. I didn't buy the textbook and still got an A - show up and pay attention, you'll be fine.
A very smart and funny professor who makes class interesting. He only gives a few assignments, but grades fairly. I definitely recommend taking him.
Never take this class online. Teacher leaves for a month with no warnings and grades never get updated, emails never get responded to. We all took the final without knowing our midterm grade, so we didn't know what to correct. All the grades are random like "7/10 needs more info" no explanations are ever given. Avoid this class like the plague.
Pretty straightforward class. Dandrow is pretty funny and his lectures are not boring at all. Get ready to write a lot of notes, but there are NO ESSAYS even though it is a gordon rule class. 4 exams and they just require good notes and studying to pass. Overall an easy class as long as you do what's required.
Best professor UCF has to offer! I've taken several of his classes and as long as you pay attention and don't slack off you'll do well. His lectures are also entertaining and he's pretty funny.
Easy the best professor I have ever taken at UCF. Im the kind of student that can't sit through lectures but something about this guys lectures keeps me intrigued. Its probably his hilarious gestures and definitions. 4 tests based off lectures. He makes World Civilization relatable and actually fun.. don't ask how. MUST TAKE!
i can understand why people have good ratings for him but i studied 14+ hours for his exams, I have the best notes, i record his lectures, etc. I can only manage an 85 average on his test. To some thats great but im trying to maintain my 4.0 and i dont do "B"s. Hes funny yeah, but his online quizzes are open book but he doesn't teach whats on them.
His test are hard, his quizzes have like 2 or 3 questions completely random from his notes so its like an educated guessing game. And his exams are the ones where its like 3 choices could be right or like supported to be right. I warn you who care about "A"s and have to take a history, TAKE AMERICAN HISTORY. BIGGEST REGRET. This class broke my 4.0
Professor Dandrow is not only hilarious but you are engaged in his lectures. he doesn't put up notes slides so DO NOT MISS CLASS write down everything he says because you will have 10 point quizzes on exactly what he says, do the study guides and you will pass the tests. loved this class and I would take him again, overall easy to make an A or B
Professor Dandrow is excellent and presents Roman History in a clear and funny way. There are only a few assignments, but you do have to do a fair amount of writing.
Very intelligent and passionate about his subject. He has a vast amount of detail he applies to his lectures, and is a rather entertaining speaker. Papers are of varying length, and he isn't too tough of a grader. He said he isn't here to fail people, but to get us to critically think and learn something. Skip his lectures and you miss a lot!
You don't write a single paper, enough said for me. I had to study really hard for the tests (science person) in order to get an A. Easy B or C. Just record his lectures and study two days before tests and you'll get an A.
There are no papers in this class, even though its a Gordon Rule class, but that doesn't mean its easy. Lots and lots of notes to study that you take during lecture. He stands and talks and you write during class, he has no notes on the board so you better be a fast typer and good listener. Lectures are interesting because he is very passionate.
Dandrow is a really good lecturer, able to mix humor, interesting insights and command of history. There are not many assignments (4) and attendance is not mandatory, but he makes class interesting to the point that you want to be there.
This was my first Face to face class at UCF. Coming back to school after a two year hiatus filled with a baby and marrying into 4 more kids I was overjoyed to be in a classroom in which the professor treated us like adults. It helps that he's easy on the eyes if your into the scruffy scholarly types like me. Just what I needed to bring my GPA up.
He's very intelligent, and passionate about his subjects. alot of reading a lot more writing.
No writing, reading or homework. 1 online quiz a week and 4 tests. If you're a bad test taker, AVOID. No extra credit, and not willing to help you bring up your grade at all, has 'it is what it is' attitude. Lectures don't match textbook, so don't bother buying it. Be at all classes, if you miss lectures you are screwed. Interesting and funny tho..
This class consists of online quizzes and in-class tests so if you are a bad test taker I do not recommend his class. If you skip class and don't have someone to give you the notes, you will fail the quizzes. The tests and quizzes are based mostly off his lectures so the book isn't necessary. He does give exam reviews.
I had this class last year, but I had to come back and review. This guy changed my life. It was supposed to be my fluff class, but I LOVED this class and learned so much more from this then my major classes! Absolutely love this proff, he's so sweet and passionate about what he does. I'd take his class again if I could! Take notes or FAIL!
Ill give him this, he does lecture good, like funny keeps you engaged but the test and quizzes are horrible. 3 questions on the quizzes arent taught so better hope youre a good guesser. This class is just one of those where you think its easy but then you find out its harder than it should be. wish i could write more but please do yourself a favor
Class is just lectures so be prepared to write.
Dandrow provides an excellent mixture of smarts and humor. He is very helpful on the assignments, but you have to ask for help. Highly recommended.
Just awesome!
You have to attend class to pass. I'm a history major and really enjoyed his class but if you don't like history it is a bit of work. Doing the test reviews are very helpful but even if you don't like history he's amusing and does a good job teaching. Also he is very willing to work with students.
Professor Dandrow really knows his stuff. You will learn a lot if you go to class and pay attention. Quizzes and exams are based on his lectures.
Dandrow is was one of the most laid-back professors I have ever had. During his lectures you can feel the enthusiasm he has for the subject, especially when the topic got into warfare and military tactics. Tests almost directly follow the reviews, and he assigns weekly quizzes. Although, he does not post lecture notes so attendance is mandatory.
Dandrow is funny and has interesting lectures. He, so far, hasn't done a test review for my class at all. His exams are a little tough. There will be information that you learned but worded a way you do not recognize. He grades on a B- scale so there is a curve. This class honestly should be easier than it is. Not hard at all to get a B in though.
He doesn't supply notes, it's strictly lecture. He goes on about irrelevant information and skips over the relevant information very quickly. Jumps around so much lectures don't make sense. Your better off reading the book cover to cover and trying to guess what will be on the test. Doesn't offer any extra credit.
He is honestly gives good lectures but there is a ton of material. Make sure if you're skipping you have a way to get the notes. Tests cover a lot but are pretty easy if you do the review. He has dry humor so you may not find him funny but overall decent class.
Lectures are long power point presentations and he does go over a lot of stuff that not important, but I didn't touch the book once, never skipped a lecture, did decent on the quizzes, and I still managed a B. Quizzes are pretty easy but tests can be hard because of the amount of material. Enjoyed his humor though. He's very knowledgeable.
Lecture based and if you're not into history the lectures can feel like forever. Four tests, 10 quizzes, no homework. Can be confusing at times and there is a lot of information, but as long as you study you can get a B. He's very passionate about the subject and you can ask him questions after class.
Loved the class, he knew the topic well and I learned a lot. His lectures are pretty lengthy but I found them entertaining. The tests are extremely easy if you have good notes and dont miss class. Attendance is important in this class! I didn't get an A in the class because I received a C in one of the tests, though I have A's on the other 3.
Very approachable and helpful outside of class. If you are interested in ancient stuff, he will help you out. His lecture are off his head, but they are interesting. Don't expect a typical class with notes posted online and on powerpoint.
I like Dandrow. eH makes lectures and is a cool guy that doesnt afraid of anything
Dandrow is a very interesting professor who clearly possesses great knowledge of his field. He ended up cancelling about 1/3 of our classes, so we didn't get to learn everything I hoped we would, which was slightly disappointing. The book reviews are tortuous, but the textbook isn't bad. The midterm and final are take home papers. He's hilarious!
Dandrow was a very good lecturer. Knows his material. My problems were the cancellation of several classes and delay in returning graded assignments. I understand things happen but I didn't pay $600 out of pocket to have classes canceled.
Excellent professor knows a lot about his field
Lots of glitches in his online tests, but overall he's a fantastic teacher with a lot of knowledge in his field.
Dr. Dandrow was one of my favorite professors at UCF! His lectures are entertaining and fun. You can tell he's incredibly knowledgeable in his field. He is also very helpful and cares about his students. One of the better professors in the history department by far!
Wonderful and caring professor! I took him for two classes and did well in both. All information needed for assignments is in the book and from class lectures. His lectures are entertaining and informative.
Entertaining lecturer and awesome professor all around. Very talented and knows the material well. Highly recommend taking his class!
My favorite prof in the UCF history department! His lectures are entertaining. Highly recommend his Rome class.
One of the best, really enjoyed taking his class a few semesters back--wish I got to take more. Take good notes and read the chapters and you'll do well.
Good lecturer and knowledgeable in the field. He knows the subject well and communicates well. Very laid back and lecture heavy. But, lectures are entertaining with a lot of dry wit and humor. Definitely take him if you have to take a history class, you won't regret it. Getting an A is easy with effort and note taking
the best. solid choice for history majors
Really liked having dandrow as a prof. His lectures are informative+there's a lot of material but if you take notes and do the readings you'll be fine. He's super knowledgeable for his field. Took him for Rome and Greece and loved both classes.
Not a history major but I enjoyed Dr. Dandrow's classes! He is one of the best teachers I've had. Seriously. He is very intelligent and makes class interesting. Will take him again!
Great teacher, learned a lot and made an A. Graded by a few things, but no busy work. Midterm and Final are take home identifications with essay. Other work is papers. Overall informative great classes that I recommend.
His lectures are awesome and I have learned so much and so many interesting things! He is super intelligent and speaks to students in a way that interests and relates to them in class!! Just do your work!!
Doctor Dandrow is not the worst professor I have ever had, I found that he has been over hyped. I had a hard time being invested in his lectures because he just seemed bored with what he was teaching. In addition, I found him to be a tough grader on essays, and his midterm and final exam were just sadistic. Take him if you like Rome, but be wary.
Took Dandrow for Rome. Class can be hard if you procrastinate or are not a good writer. Exams are take home, with good notes and effort you'll get an easy A. Papers are hardest part, but he's available to students when they need help and will look over drafts. Very laid back and caring. Sad I'm graduating and can't take another class.
His midterm and final are torturous. They are take home, but they require you to write several pages worth of ID terms, and two essays which require you to read a full back all in the span of about a week. I would not mind so much, but I have other classes I need to study and do work for!
Favorite professor teaching History. Most people take him for more than 1 class. Take home exams (open book and notes) and superb lectures. No busy work, if you read the textbook and go to most classes exams should not be hard just time consuming. Found his class easier than others and still informative. Very kind to students. Will take again.
Awesome and intelligent teacher!!! Love his sarcastic humor-but hes also very very friendly and super understanding if you need help or are having a hard time. His style of teaching is lecturing. I like to sit back and take notes so I liked this style. Plus take home exams! (Identifications and mini essayall info is in the book, notes help too!)
Dr Dandrow is very knowledgeable. He makes you want to learn.
EUH4413 Roman Empire- Exactly how an online class should be. 6 quizzes, 2 tests, (all answers in text) 3 books to read about 800pgs total. 2 papers 1 -3pg, 1-5pg, to other easy assignments. No weekly deadlines all due by last day of class. Only negative the 2 papers are half of grade and he does not grade until after class ends so no feedback.
Dandrow is great teacher. His lectures are great but you'll need to take thorough notes if you want to do well on the midterm and final. The two books he assigns must be read over a long period of time if you want to fully digest the information. Beyond that, there really isn't much work. What you submit must be good quality.
I enjoyed Dr. Dandrow, my only online prof. to actually take the time to live-stream lecture us. Very informative, he is a Rome junky. Has almost all grades due the end of the semester, so you MUST be diligent to work on your own. It is TONS of reading, and the tests are hard. 2 10 page papers over primary sources plus threw a surprise final on us.
Professor Dandrow was a very nice guy. Grade for the class was simply three exams that you have a week to complete. He is a very slow grader; the final is due today and he only has one grade in for the entire semester. His lectures can be long and boring, but he posts the recordings to be used for the exams, which is really helpful.
Class was well-structured, tests were easy, decent amount of reading, and the class was self-paced. Professor put in zero effort and never communicated beyond his announcement at the beginning of the semester. Never responded to numerous emails, and graded everything at the very end of the semester, leaving you guessing for your final grade.
Entertaining professor, lecture-heavy but presents his lectures in an entertaining way. Graded by only 4 significant assignments: 2 papers and 2 take-home exams. My only critique is that he didn't bump my 89.95 to a 90, thus leaving me with a B instead of an A and a sour taste in my mouth.
Dr. Dandrows class is very fun and he is a nice professor, however, if you don't wanna do 15 page papers for your mid-term and final with about a weeks notice of what they're on then I would not recommend this class.
Professor Dandrow is extremely horrible at communicating! He doesn't answer emails right away or at all. Also, his quiz questions were either missing answers, didn't make sense, or were not part of the book. He even hesitated to fix a glitch in his quiz and initially considered not giving me credit because of it. He wasn't a great professor at all.
Professor Dandrow will rarely answer emails and grades at the last minute. I'm still waiting to find out the grades for seven papers from him. I don't recommend this professor for this course; it seems he doesn't care about his work or helping you. You have better luck working with a different professor.
Did not withdraw because of him as a prof. Kind/flexible with due dates when I told him I was struggling. There are 2 tests and 2 exams (exams are take-home). Attendance not mandatory but don't skip class, you will be lost. Reading is necessary to do well. He is fair, funny, kind, and smart. Cares about his students. Lectures aren't boring.
Great professor. Really engaged with students and the topics he teaches.
Awesome professor. Lectures are interesting, funny, and educational. I always look forward to them. Assignments are few, with only a few papers and a midterm/final. They require a lot of writing but if you pay attention to the lectures and take notes they aren't hard. He's a fair grader if you do the work properly and gives good feedback. 10/10
This professor is impossible to reach. Quizzes are ridiculous and take way too long to complete. He grades sporadically without giving clear criteria beforehand. He makes everything due at the same time though, so its convenient if you need a flexible schedule. I would definitely recommend taking someone else if you have a choice.
Professor Dandrow's class is engaging, but the take-home exams can be brutal. If you stay on top of the reading and use resources like the textbook and unstuckstudy ai, you'll do well. Attendance is mandatory, but his lectures are worth it.
Excellent professor.
I loved Professor Dandrow's lectures, he has amazing knowledge to share and I felt that I learned a lot. Get ready to read and write a lot and find out what he likes in an essay. He does take a while to grade. The midterm and final are a lot, start them early. Overall, highly recommend especially if you are interested in Rome at all.
Professor Dandrow is a great professor! With two papers, the midterm, and final, there aren't many assignments, but if you use the textbook outside of class and pay attention to his lectures in class you are guaranteed to do well. Midterms and finals are take home, but make sure to start them early as they are content-heavy. Overall, a great class!
