Very funny & down to earth; tests are easy.
Good humored dude.
Very good teacher, had him for both chem 3 and 4, a chilling personality... and tests are straight from his notes
Well. So far. He seem like a good teacher. My friend told me that I lucky to be in his class. And I kinda agree.
I would not recommend him to anybody, especially if you are a pharmacy major. His handwriting needs practice....call me for details
No Comments
Good professor..does get on your nerves sometimes, but all in all..he's good. Take him...he's better than other chem 3 &4 professors.
Tests are straightforward
Hard class made easy, 4 exams, 4 questions per exam, so no room for screwing up. Could have done better if calculator wanted to cooperate during the exams.
hard exams
chill guy tests and grades are fair so what you get is what you deserve took it in summer school so it was much harder
summer school half of the students will fail. such a bad teacher i took a uw to get away
He is a pretty good professor. Had him for chem 3 in the summer time. He gives very good notes and an excellent review for the tests.
Thought I would get f*cked but guess not. 136 seemed much more easier than 135. Probably the best phys. chem professor in the entire school.

i thought this guy was gonna be the worst....i was partially right however, he makes his test soooo eaSy....he gave the 10 questions 2 days before the test with diff. #'s ...so EASY! very boring though, very monotone, and illeligible handwriting.i would take him again.
Will not give you the grade you deserve
Prof. Donahue is a good and fair professor. He gives good notes even though his handwriting is hard to understand at times. He does give excellent reviews though. Highly recomend.
He is an excellent professor. He is the most straight-forward professor in LIU. His reviews are derivatives of his exams. All you have to do is study his review and you'll get an easy A in both Chem 3 and 4.
He is a very good professor, he tells you everything that is going to be on the test. If you study and do examples from the textbook, you wil do well in his class. The only minus is that you can never find him, he is never in his office, and misses or is late to class a lot.
Easy A!!!
I hate this professor. He doesn't know how to teach. You have to learn on your own. And since he is the chairman, he always has this attitude.
He is the easiest Chem 3/4 professor; his teats are streight from his review, 10 questions which are not hard, and he drops the lowest grade. In addition, 90-100 is an A is his class while most professor give you an A if you get 96-100, so he is not bad. I recommend him!!!!
coffee, coffee, coffee!! icant imagine what his office looks like, i think it is filled with coffee. ANY WAY, he is great I LOVE HIM, except for the coffee part
VERY HARD, AND BAD ATTITUDE, IF U ARE PHARMACY AND NEED A GOOD GRADE,. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!
HE IS A COMPLETE **** HE DOESNT GIVE U THE GRADE U DESERVE HIS TESTS ARE MUCH HARDER AND HE TURNED INTO A COMPLETE IDIOT... HE IS COMP. NOT HELPFUL TO STUDENTS... HE GETS HIS POINTS FOR HIS TEST OUT OF THE SKY PLUS 5 PLUS 7 IS ALL HE EVER GIVES ! DO NOTTTTT TAKE HIM AT ALL
The most easiest professor for inorganic chemistry. People who tell that he is hard must change their majors. Imagine what is gonna happen with you in organic chemistry class if you fail Donahue? I am just curious! ))
he is absolutely the best professor. Very sarcastic but funny. Easy A if you study and do your work. It wont come easy if you dont go what you need to do, but he;s very fair, and cooool. take him for both chem 3 and 4 and you wont regret it
he is easy. i like the way he is teaching. after every chapter, he will do some examples. and the questions on the tests are similar to the examples. he is good, also because he tell you how to the lab before you go there.
Guys i worked hard for this class n' i got A however he's really rude and **** i dont recom. anyone taking him and plus he comes late to class EVERYDAY 30min late which is not right! and when u go ask him question he makes u feel like FOOL.
he is never on time but if u study his notes you will do great you must work hard
Comes late every class, so be ready. It's def incredibly inconsiderate. I personally found I couldn't learn anything from him. I did well the first test (high 80s), and then it all went downhill. I just find I don't absorb anything from him, and I did open my book and study. Txtbook = more confusing. His handwriting = atrocious, use magnifyingglass
hes a jerk, but his tests are easy if u read the textbook, i basically taught myself, never really looked at his notes
Comes Late. Don't ask him questions. Goes relatively fast. Is rude. However, he's good at what he does. Pay attention in class. Do a few questions from the syllabus. Study for about four hours [depends on your own pace, really] the day before a test. Focus on the questions he does in class. You should be good. However, the final is another story.
i persnally feel that you cannot judge him unless you try him.
his exams are little tricky but notes help. make sure to understand his lectures and notes very well.
One of the realest Chem Professors here at LIU and is the best chemistry professor 4 chm 3 and 4, 4 chm 3 ull find out why, HE IS EASY REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW, take him if u can bcause hes more 1st come 1st serve and is the best chem teacher in LIU
So my first yr in pre-pharm is done and Donahue was my chm professor and all i can say is ..... HE IS THE BEST :) , he comes in late 30 minutes, but believe me he s very ez especially his test and labs, i loved this class and taking in summer for CHM 4 no matter what, 90 and above in his class is a shiny "A", and 86-89 is A-.
Overall I liked him a lot. His tests are fair and he tells you EXACTLY whats on the test. LITERALY, he would be like 1 is gonna be a pressure problem (etc). He's VERY fair and if you need help he will help you. If you ask retarded questions in class then he's prob gonna be sarcastic about it but I deff recommend him. Very very fair.
Just took him for the summer session and the class ends tuesday, with the final exam. ALL I can say is that he is the best inorganic professor ever and funny 2, he grades fair , u have to dumb to not get a A or A- in his class. Hes very fair, but he comes in late, besides that excellent reviews he tells u whats gonna be on the test :))) good luck
i took him in the summer and he was really really hard. i studied my bum off and still only got a b- because lab boosted my grade. maybe its because summer was so rushed, but i REALLY did not like him. at all. and i would never take him again.
hes really reallllly gooooodd, he knows his stuff and all you gotta do is just pay attention. btw avoid asking stupid questions bcuz your onli going to get laughed at :) but over all good course i loved it chem 3 and 4 with him.
Test are easy because he tells you what is going to be on them on the review. the only this wrong with this professor is that he will show up late and makes you take the test even if you have to take it in 30 mins out of a 2 hour class
DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT ASK HIM A DAMN QUESTION. IF YOU CAN FIGURE OUT THE ANSWER YOURSELF, DO IT! OTHERWISE, ASK A FRIEND! his lectures are very helpful if you pay attention. He is literally the funniest person i've ever met in my life (sarcastic like crazy) if you do the hw questions throughout the coarse, pay attention and do the work, you'll g
if you are the person who keeps making mistakes in tests, then dont take him. he is a harsh grader when it comes through grading the test.
all i can say say is he is the best chem professor. he is so easy. the only thing u need is to put time into his class and get an easy A
This professor has no idea about teaching, he looks at sky and no interaction with students, all he wants from you is yes and being quite, his flow of teaching is like driving in manahattan, my 1 year old can teach better, he write in board with nice chalk that no one can read, he might be smart but has no idea that students pay 1000 per Hr at LIU
All he does in the class is walk all through the length of the blackboard while the students keep trying to find what he has written on the board. He does not know that a student has a doubt unless you shout and ask him. He just sees in his txtbk, board and sideways. He is good at times when you pay attention but bad handwriting dgrades his teaching.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! I got an A- & didn't open the textbook once, but the final was hard, you need the textbook for the final. He explains things very well, nice man but gets pissed over stupid questions. Take him!! :)
Great professor ! One of the best in chem! Took him for the summer chm 3 and 4. Got a A. In both. It's not all easy you really have to study but he does reviews that are exactly like the test. He is friendly if you don't show any attitude awesome professor ! TAKE HIM
Great professor took him in the summer for Chen 3 and 4. Got a A in both the classes you really have to study and understand what he is teaching but it's easy if u wanna learn. He does reviews for test which are exactly like his test. TAKE HIM
His class is great! Very intelligent and knows what he is talking about. Do NOT even think to bother him with stupid questions. His tests are very straight forward and easy if you payed attention. His reviews are exactly what are on the tests. Take him, you will not be sorry.
CHEMISTRY IS HARD! no matter wht you gotta study, donohue is very antisocial, he just writes onboard and paces back and forth. he does review for exam but exams are tricky and graded harshely. BUT he gives A for 90and above so its really not that hard if you study just dont ask stupid quesions, he's sarcastic
He is the easiest professor ever. Just study his notes.
Donahue is the easiest chemistry professor at LIU, his test are always 10 questions and he tells you exactly what kind of questions those 10 questions are. His notes are clear and concise, but his handwriting is messy and it takes time to get used to it. All you need is a 90 to get an A in his class. Don't ask stupid questions. He's an easy A.
Chem is one of those subjects that prof/teachers/tutors can make it more complicated than it is. He is an amazing professor. Didn't have to crack open my text book 1 time. He's clear and sarcastic (in a funny way). I highly recommend.
He seems to know what he is teaching but can't really teach. If you have a question keep to yourself because he is going to look at you as if you were stupid or something. He just assumes that everyone understands everything so he goes on and never asks if anyone has a question. Horrible handwriting. Just don't expect an A for doing nothing.
Hes an Ok professor. He writes alot of notes but his tests are directly from the review questions he does in class before. He just adds some little tricks that you have to be careful of. The final was way harder than his tests but hes a good professor. Study hard and dont slack off.
Professor Donahue is a great man inside and outside of the classroom. He's a very understanding person. He curves the class a lot. He is the easiest professor for chem 3 and chem 4. I regret not taking him for chem 3. Tests are 10 questions and he does a review before each test. Yes reviews are literally the questions in the tests. Take him!!
The best! Don't think twice
(1) VERY good at teaching PAY attention (aka don't talk to others in class & then complain when you didn't understand something). Explains the theoretical & practical implications of EVERYTHING (2) Sarcastic as hell (fun), ask him a question that shows you were listening & he will answer w/ patience, ask him something he JUST SAID & he'll be pissed
best inorganic chem professor at liu!!!
professor donahue is a good professor better than a lot of other chem professors, just study the review question and that is it. i used to study the day before the exam. 5 exams 10 questions each and he drops the lowest grade. for the final study the book questions only and you will be good
Take him if you are a good test taker. His exams are easier than any other chem professor in the university . Does a review before an exam and the questions are exactly the same of course the numbers are different .. He's very clever so be aware don't get caught doing anything stupid .... He DOESNOT CURVE AT ALLLLLL !!!
Professor doanhue is the best to take for General chemistry . His exams are basicallay his review easy A . But he is a hard grader . Good luck
only showed up on exam dates got an A
I don't know why everyone is saying he's the best professor for General Chemistry quite frankly he's not. Tricky test, reviews are not similar as the tests and if you miss a test or lab don't bother asking for make ups he won't let you. Doesn't have the best attitude and he just doesn't care at all. He does not curve at all. You need the textbook
Well what can be said. His test are tough, you really have to study for his test and he does not curve at all. You need the textbook. Attendance is not mandatory but his notes are very useful. Does reviews and sample questions in class but the ones that are on his tests are much more difficult. Class might start on time, late or might not even come.
Probably the easiest professor in LIU. Easy A. This class is so easy. Trust me.
Very easy A just study his notes and review problems he goes over before every exam
Just dont take him for chem 4, doesnt care about his students. Office hours are him stepping out of his office and saying 'What". Class may start 30-60 minutes late, IF at all. Tests are not curved and contain tricky questions that are different from his review.
one of the best chem professors at LIU! his lectures/ explanations are very organized and clear to understand which makes it easy to follow. chem is tough & a lot of studying is required. he seems very intimidating at first but hes very approachable if you have any questions after class. he doesnt curve. exams are much easier than other chem profs.
Donahue's lectures are very clear. If you listen and take notes, you shouldn't need much extra explanation. I bought a textbook but never used it since going over notes was enough. He'll give you an outline of each test before you take it. The final is basically all 5 quizzes combined. As a person, however, he doesn't seem to care too much.
Good teacher but he does not let you ask any questions and makes you feel stupid when you do.
Fair teacher. He teaches you exactly what you need to know for General Chemistry. He's liking a walking cheat sheet. He's not the most enthusiastic teacher and he does have a habit of coming to class late, but you will understand Chemistry and that's what matters. His tests are fair as long as you take good notes and pay attention during his reviews.
Since every other chem teacher in LIU is horrible take him. He doesn't really care about his students but you will do good in this class.
Not the WORST professor but def not the best. 5 tests, drops lowest, 10 questions each. Be smart and read the questions carefully because he is tricky!!! Final is based off of tests and textbook questions. Good luck!
He is a tough professor and his tests are hard, but his lectures are clear and to the point. He has his bad days, but some days he tries to make lecture a bit more enjoyable. He also explains the labs in such a way that you can understand it.
He is a silly old goose but I like him. Very fair grader. His tests are somewhat difficult but still manageable to get an A if you work for it.
Very different type of teacher and makes you really work for an A but it's possible if you put time into studying and don't just cheat.
BEST. PROF. EVER. he might seem intimidating but he's a real sport once you get to know him
Hes really good. Exams are similar to his in class reviews and previous exams. Study from those and youll get 80+. He doesnt curve and he might walk in late to his 8ams but its an easy A if you study from his notes and reviews.
is a good professor for teaching purposes, has a bit of an attitude problem. past exams are similar to current exams. provides examples of test problems for review. i would recommend showing up to class for noted.
Best chem professor at liu. Would advise people to take him for chm 3. His teaching methods are amazing. So take him for sure!!
He is rude & has the worst attitude ever. If you don't know something he will make you feel stupid rather than give you a chance to fix your mistake. You get graded based on labs & test, attendance doesnt matter. He is always late to class sometimes 30 mins, sometimes 20 or more. You never know when he's coming in but just know he'll be late.
Ok, so he could be worse I guess because his teaching ability is there but HE IS SO RUDE. Whenever you ask a question he gives you a snarky response IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE CLASS. Not only that but he doesn't care about you in the slightest so ya if that doesn't bother you have fun.
He may be sarcastic and rude some times but his teaching methods are good and his exams are just like his review sessions. Take him, highly recommend for chem 3 and guaranteed A if you are willing to put in the effort as well.
Would recommend him for chem 3. He teaches everything clearly and his reviews are on the exams. He may show attitude but he is willing to teach and guaranteed A. Just put in the effort.
Literally the best chem professor in liu and he teaches in the best ways to make you understand chem. Would recommend him for general chemistry.
Gets the wrong answer during lecture often. Takes off tremendous amount of points for minor mistakes. The grade is just fives tests, final and labs. During our remote learning semester however, the lowest test grade did not get dropped but we had no final. We did lab quizzes to replace missing lab work.
This was a pretty fair class, four tests (one gets dropped) and a final. They are a little intimidating because you don't get so much time and the questions are a little difficult. You must go to class and take good notes to get a good grade.
very rude to students and does not take into account the effort put in, teaches as if you already know the material and does not answer your questions in the lab, makes mean comments if you lose focus for a second , this professor is just not it, do not recommend
Very rude and has bad attitude. Always shows up to class late, doesn't care for anything other than teaching his lesson then leaving. He's basically unavailable outside of class and if you ever ask questions, give the wrong answer or don't understand something, it'll result in him getting ticked off and possibly yelling at you.
Worst attitude and so rude. If you ask questions he'll get really annoyed and if you get something wrong he WILL make you feel stupid. He's also always 30 minutes or more late to class and never takes attendance. You're graded on labs and 4 tests (lowest dropped).
Lowest test grade is dropped, you need to attend class and study 8+ hours weekly if you want to get a good grade. Tests are hard, but he gives a review and tells you what is on it. He will answer your questions and will meet during office hours and help you prepare. If you are good at studying then take him, he's not bad.
Midterm, final, and lab only. Midterm I failed miserably, did well for lab and studied hard for the final to make up grade. I was supposed to receive a C/C+ but he considered me being a pre-pharmacy student and rounded it to a B-. This man is a gem!!! Please be nice to him, he will try his best to give you as many points as he can. Just don't fuss
His exams are the same EXACT PRACTICE problems he does in class, literally the same just different values. Just be sure to copy all of it down. when he says something will be on the exam, it WILL be on it. Important tip, dont waste your time copying off someone, everyone gets different test papers. Cant outsmart Donahue. He curved A LOT!!
Donahue is a good professor who is very straightforward. You have to make sure you study the material and understand it to its full extent, especially the problems he does in class as they resemble exactly what he puts on his tests. His grading policy is pretty tough, 35% for the midterm and 35% for the final, 25% lab and 5% homework.
I kind of taught myself in this class. but his classwork is literally on the test. no curves he's always thirty minutes late. but he's cool. I would take it again even tho I got a D.
Bro , I can't believe he is getting these good reviews, one time I missed a class to come back and he was done with 3 chapters in one lecture, you get graded on 3 tests only there's no has no extra credit no negotiation, he is weird when someone asks a question and makes you nervous. He is nice but not for teaching :(
ALWAYS late to his 8 am. The tests make absolute no sense. does so many examples on the board BE SURE TO COPY THEM DOWN. his tests r exactly like the examples, but i failed them so miserably. if u ask him a question he gets very annoyed and lets out a sigh. 4 tests, and lab, no extra credit or homework. if u need an A-B in this course avoid him.
Exams are hard and even if u study a lot, you still end up doing bad. Not good for GPA. If Bensalems class is offered, take him instead even if you have to stay up till 12am the day enrollment opens.
He has two faces. he is nice to his colleagues but shows his inner evil to his students
Save your GPA and do not take this professor.
Everything is written on the board for you and he goes through problems precisely and he tells you important questions that you will see on the test. Redo and review his questions in lecture and you will do good. He does have an attitude but overall does a good job on teaching you.
he is rude to everyone and he thinks he is smarter than anyone
Professor donahue will mock you and embarass you in front of the whole class if you ask a question. Whats crazy is that for next semester 120 people enrolled for the other chem lecture and only 4 kids enrolled for donahue.stay away
Ok professor. You are expected know everything before the lab class. You cant really ask questions without getting embarrased in front of the class.
he does one day lecture, one day review where all the problems for particular chapter could be on test. every problem he writes on board could be on test. first test i got 72, second test i got 68, and on third and final test I got 91. all you have to do is go to his review lessons, do the problems he writes on the board until you can do it blind.
save your gpa do not take him. even if you are completely failing his class he will mock you and refuse to help. if you ask a question he makes fun of you and makes sure you feel as stupid as possible. tests are only 10 questions, every mistake counts for a lot of points. he repeats all his tests so try to get someone's old tests if u take him.
He makes his own lab manual you need to buy, just tear out the lab for the day, do it, turn it in, you leave when you're done. Pre-labs are required. Pre-labs are graded out of 5 and labs out of 8 (around those numbers). He drops the lowest grade. Only thing is he is incredibly rude and quick to anger. Besides that he's fine.
Donahue's class is challenging, but manageable if you stay on top of the material. His review sessions are essential - redo the practice problems and you'll nail the exams. unstuck AI was a game-changer for my chem prep too.
I have no idea how and why this man gets to still teach at LIU. He is a miserable man who is very unapproachable. His class gave me nothing but anxiety and made me transfer from LIU. For your own sanity don't take him. IF you do tho, get a hold of his old exams it'll be the only thing that will help you study. good luck.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR- i had him for lab & lecture. He is extremely rude :( I would DREAD going to lab because he wouldnt give good instructions but gets really mad if you're even slightly confused. His lecs are hard to keep up, he's too fast & writes on the board expecting you to understand everything. Test is different from what he teaches.
Very good for lecture
Honestly professor Donahue is very passionate about what he does yes he does get angry very quickly but he's a great teacher u get 5 lecture exams and a final he's a fair grader I had him for lecture and lab he's an awesome lab professor I recommend him 10/10
