Great! Very helpful and patient and didn't make people feel dumb - especially since this is a developmental class.
He is very nice. I had so much trouble with Math, but he is always helpful. He doesn't look down on you. Everything was always well planned. He is one of the first professors I know of who encourages you to visit him for help.
An awesome professor. Uses the old-fashioned overhead and writes out each math problem, then makes sure everyone understands before continuing the lesson. The quizzes and tests are very thorough, show your work or he'll count off! Tests are multiple choice and he always makes room for bonuses if you're falling behind. Very caring!
He is really easy to understand. He works out each and every problem and wont go on until hes made sure eveyone gets it. Encourages you to visit him for extra help if you need it. The reviews arent exactly like the tests, but if you just do them your sure to make an A on his tests. I hate math...and I like going to this class !! Easy Class !!
great teacher, very helpful, i am so glad that i had the chance to have him as a teacher. i'm looking forward to taking his business algebra class even though i dread math.
GREAT PROFESSOR!! Absolutely helpful. He explains very clearly and his study guides are pretty much what you see on the test!! Definitely take him.
Very concerned that his students learn. Tries to keep with his syllabus. If you need help, just ask, he's willing to explain it to you. Don't expect him to answer questions you don't ask. Could stand to utilize the WebCT more but that doesn't detract from his teaching ability. Better than my last Prof whose class I flunked.
VERY GOOD TEACHER. I loved his class...he gives you ALOT of notes but believe me they help! If you have questions all you have to do is ask and he will be happy to answer them for you. The tests are just like the review, and he even gives you extra credit for turning in the review. He takes attendance so make sure you're there. Over all GREAT prof!
He's really old fashioned with the overhead and stuff, but as long as you do the reviews and really pay attention how the problems on the reviews are worked out you will pass the tests. tests are multiple choice which makes things soo much easier
Go to class and take his notes. he gives great examples and makes sure you understand. its a little boring at times, but easy to follow. the homework is online and takes some time but east to get a 100. tests are almost identical to the review. :)
Soooooo nice! this class will really prepare you for the next math class yyou take. This is the best teacher to take this class with. Take your quizes at home online and tests are multiple choice.
He is very sweet and helpful. He carefully works out the problems. He is ALWAYS willing to work out problems you have trouble with. He goes step-by-step making it easier to understand. I learned so much from his class. I strongly encourage everyone to take him. His reviews are almost exactly like the exams. Easy class!! GREAT PROFESSOR!:) TAKE HIM!
this was the best remedial class ever, proffessor is very helpful, great notes, and great communication, answers back to emails fast..Great proffessor.
This guy is rediculous. I took his Business Algebra/Calc course and it was terrible. He's not very clear when explaining the material. You WILL HAVE TO INVEST HOURS A NIGHT doing the problems for homework. An average of 2 hours per day (if not more). Stay away from this guy. Half the class dropped him. Too demanding on what should be an easy class.
Very boring and monotone. Not a hard class if you can force yourself to attend. Look into anther professor unless your already good at math.
he is really nice teacher. He explains everything clearly
This was a remedial class...homework on my math lab took up a lot of time. Attendence taken at each class. As someone who has problems in math, he made it easy to understand. Went through problems step by step and always answered homework questions. Glad I took him!!
GREAT TEACHER!!! I'm the worst fan of math, and he made everything so clear and he makes sure that you understand it. Lots of notes, but believe me they help! You get a review before each test and the questions are pretty much identical. Opportunities for bonus points and he is always there to help! I definitely suggest everyone takes him!
Very good professor and he walks you through your notes until you understand him and he does lots of examples so you can get what you are talking about. Everything is done online and no need of the book, tests are in class but very easy if you do the review. Made an A
i dont understand why everyone is saying thst he is good HE IS NOT! if you dont like math like me take another professor.Tons of homework assignments, very tedious. His class is kinda boring he refers to X and Y as his "little friends" or something like that. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Esparza is a good teacher. Friendly. The only problem for me was that he sped through the examples too fast. I should've spoken up, I'm sure he would have slowed down a bit. You really have to keep up with the homework if you want to pass, though, unless you're a math genius.
Very Good Professor. He is easy and I missed more than the amount you could miss and missed my hw assignments and still passed. He also worked with me on the quizzes i missed. He is also explains the problems well.
I would never recommend him. He gives way to much homework and tends to take pride in the fact that he is more intelligent, he will call you out in class and make you feel stupid for answering a question.
Seriously. This professor is not one that I would recommend. He rushes through sections, has an attitude like he couldn't care less about the students and what they learn. He tries to cover up his (multiple) mistakes in class as jokes. I'm sure he is a nice guy, but not a great professor.
Professor Esparza is a great professor! He's very understandable, goes step by step of the problems. I actually had friends in other math classes, and his homework is NOTHING compared to theirs. His tests are really easy. He provides a review and everything. I do recommend going to class because if you miss once you will get lost. He's nice too!
Mr. Esparza is an awesome teacher. He explains topics clearly, allows questions to be asked within class and stays after class to answer any questions concerning the homework. Numerous times i have emailed him a question and he answers back that day in full detail on how to properly complete the problem. His review is identical to the test.Take him
Prog. Esparza is a good professor, who cares about his class, and his students. His quizzes are hard, but generally come from the textbook, which most students never open, so the answers are easy to find. Take him for an easy B+ or A+
Easy class if you pick up on material, do ALL MML HW. He does not re open sections. Test review identical to Test, so as long as you do the test review and full understand, EASY A for the tests. HW is excessive, quizzes are hard. Homework and quizzes are done in MML. As long as you keep up with the class and HW's Easy A!!! Great teacher!
Easy class barely even went and i still passed with a B!! He teaches basically is online since you have to use MyMathLab for everything! useful to buy the book when it comes to test and quizzes if you don't attend class. He's helpful and is at students interests
Not the best professor in the world but also not the worst. He does explain the problems very well and if you take great notes you should be able to pass. He uses online resources for his class so all HW and quizzes are online. I did not use the book once so all you really need to do is purchase access to MyMath lab.
I have struggled with Algebra my entire life and still got an A in this class. He's very helpful, but the homework is excessive. You will have to study. He will replace a lower test score with the final exam score (in essance count it twice) and he does drop the lowest two homework grades. All in all, I would take professor Esparza again.
Professor Esparza is a great professor! He explains everything very thoroughly. Doing the assigned homework is necessary to ensure success in the class. Purchasing the textbook is not a necessity as all work is done online through MyMathLab.
He explains the math very well. The homework is really the key to success in this class. You'll get most of your practice and understanding from the homework. You don't really need the book for this class, I didn't use it at all. Just purchase MyMath Lab
Mr. Esparza is good at what he does. The book is not required at all. Its all done online with the homework and quizzes. I went to class, took notes, and maintained an A+ average. The online stuff is very useful and has examples and everything. I would reccomend him.
He knows what he's talking about. But, he moves REALLY fast. Before his class I haven't taken math in 3 years. It was a bit overwhelming, but the homework helps much. I was sick and missed the beginning of calculus, and I was lost. It cost me my A+. You don't really need a book, just by MyMathLab and everything you need (and the book) is there.
Good teacher
This was for Intermediate Algebra which I took in the summer, he is very clear in his lesson and extremely helpfull, I wouldnt recommend missing class however because you miss out on alot, he uses my math lab so the book is online, alot of homework through my math lab but it really helps in the long run. I havent taken math in 6 years and got an A!
Good prof. Gotta do the homework though and its all on mathlab and really long. makes math as exciting as it can get which is boring. Really wants students to do well and takes clear notes in class.Never opened my book
He checks attendance-_-. He also has a monotone voice and he makes jokes to cover his math errors. He gives lots and lots and lots of homework. prepare spend numerous hours doing it. and test are like the test review. simple. don't buy book, everything is on my mathlab
Prof. Esparza is very smart and very helpful. My advice: GO TO CLASS, PAY ATTENTION, AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. If you do those three simple things, you will get the grade you want. He may speak a little monotone, but he moves fast so don't fall behind. His jokes are sometimes a little cheesy but still funny. Don't buy the book. It's all on MyMathLab.
What a great professor. He is very clear and he knows his stuff well. His exams are based on the review and the final exam is based on the tests you take. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND MATH.
Do NOT miss a single day in this class. You will regret it. Nice professor but this class was far too intensive. I retook this course with another professor and got an A.
This class overall is easy but, you have to put in the time and effort. He gives lots of homework, 3 test and 6 quizzes. He also checks attendance every day. He drops one test and two homeworks.TAKE him you will not regret it :)
Took College algebra with calculus for business with him at summer. Clear and straight forward. Just study his review papers and you'll get an A easily. You don't need to attend, only need to solve his homework assignments carefully.
Easy class, but boring. Lots of homework but not complicated problems.
Honestly, his lectures may be boring, but it's because he really goes in depth for his lessons. But he himself is a wonderful man ! He's so precious, adorable, and old, but he teaches really well and is thorough in his explanations. However, it didn't help that his class wasn't mandatory and and hour and a half long. Overall, easy class if you try.
Spent 59 hours on homework overall this semester. As long as you do the homework and go over the review you'll do fine. I'm horrible at math and made an A. The quizzes were a bit tricky for me, but I made up for it with homework and a high test average. I suggest prof. Esparza as long as you know you'll do the homework.
Esparza is such a nice man! He's always smiling and trying to be funny. He gives great examples in class, so take notes. You definitely DON'T need the book -MyMathLab comes with built in teaching tools and is good practice even though it is a pain because there is HW after each class. Do the reviews! It's hard to keep up w/ all of the info. Got a B
Professor Esparza is a really good teacher and he explains things very well! If you take good notes you will succeed on the homework and test. He gives reviews before every test and they are JUST like the test. He also drop that lowest test grade at the end of the semester. However, just don't blow off the class because of all the great reviews.
Professor Esparza is wonderful! He gives two homeworks on mathlab every week and doing the homework is an easy grade booster. The lectures are clean notes of the important things from the book that he writes out in class. Didn't open my textbook once! All of the tests were just like the reviews he gave us. Do the work and you will get an A!
He is a nice man but not helpful. The class was easy because the material was easy however he writes a whole novel when doing notes and excessive definitions that are irrelevant. Reviews are exactly like the test. Never used the book once, just used MyMathLab. Overall not bad bc i knew material, but if you need to learn, he isnt a good teacher
if your bad at math, like me, this class will be super hard for you. he gives such long examples & I had to go to my friends to show me a much simpler & shorter way of working the problems. You will have a ton of homework on mymathlab. gives you a review for the test which is sort of helpful. again I'm bad at math.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SO BORING AND DIFFICULT. Attendance is mandatory and it is honestly impossible to sit through class. He is a nice man, but needs to change some things.
He takes attendance but idk what he does with that. Maybe if you ask for help or a curve or something. Class is okay. Had to teach myself with the book a few times. His examples are bit difficult and writes useless definitions on new chapters. Review is just like the test. Made a 95, 65, 105 on exams. 92 on HW/Quizzes. 75 on Final. Drops 1 test
Professor Esparza is awesome, he explains the material really well and will answer questions about any of the material. Do not miss class, he is very kind and easy to understand. This is my second time taking this class and I wish I would have taken it with him first. Dont need the book, just use MyMathLab. Study the review, same layout for test.
Nice guy. Class sucks. HW is intense. Avg 45 multiple part questions per assignment. Seems to think this is the only class you have that matters. Rushes through sections. Doesn't do more than one example of problems in class or on HW. If you don't get it the first go, you're screwed. Test reviews are a mixed bag.
This is the guy to take if you're wanting an easy grade. Expect to do lots of hw on MML thats due twice a week. About 50 problems each. If I don't get a problem, I email him the question and he always responds with an in-depth explanation within that same day. Reviews are EXACTLY like the test so study the reviews well! No book needed, just MML.
SO MUCH HOMEWORK! Seriously an overload of work and really repetitive. 40 problem homework on MML every class... it takes up a lot of study time.
Very easy class. I'm decent at math, but it's hadn't taken algebra since I was a sophomore. Really sweet man, class can get kind of boring but if you skip, you can easily pick back up what you don't understand during the next class. Tests are practically the reviews. I'm taking Esparza again next semester!
A professor with a generic voice who does his best to lecture with students, but posting his homework online leaves some desperate students still despaired in their attempt of his assignments.
Sweet old man. Extremely intelligent yet not condescending when you ask for help even when you interrupt the lecture. Quizzes were tricky, yet the tests were relatively easy given the reviews. I'm taking him again for pre-cal!
He assigns way too much hw. He very patience and helps when students don't understand. For the exam review there are 50 questions make sure you know how to do them ALL, even though the test is half of the review. I'm not taking him again but he's not an awful teacher. MyMathLab sometimes helped me more than he did.
Awesome math teacher! He gives a lot of HW but its not hard usually and it is very helpful later on. Always has something funny to say, is very good at explaining and is very interested in you having a good understanding of material. Takes attendance and has multi-choice tests. If you can't pass his class, try another degree.
Best math teacher. I have always struggled with math, but I received an A+ in his class because I worked really hard. I took him over the summer. He assigns a lot of hw so stay ontop of your assignments and go to class everyday so you don't fall behind. Reviews are a lot like the tests. He is ALWAYS open to questions and isn't condescending at all
Precalculus is really easy with Esparza. Homework assignments are reliable, posted 3 times a week. There is a review given before every test. If the reviews are completed with good understanding, the tests are not hard. All questions on the tests can be found on the reviews. Esparza is a great prof. if you like to know why everything works in math.
SUPER EASY. Gives lots of extra credit. Very sweet and helpful and clear. Teaches well. No need to go to class. Review is exactly like the test. Only problem is THE AMOUNT OF HW. Takes up soooo much time.
Very good teacher. Will slow down if you have questions. There is a lot of online homework but the online homework keeps you on top of the topics and you can skip class and learn with the homeworks. Lets you use unit circle and calculator for tests. There is always a review for the tests.
Efficient class. His reviews are almost exactly like his tests, and he drops one test at the end of the year. 8 quizzes, but a LOT of homework. About 100 questions of MML a week. He's very helpful and always answers questions. I'm terrible at math but I still managed to make a B in the class. Go to MAP sessions if you need help!
Very helpful professor. He makes excellent notes, making it easier to understand everything. Makes test reviews then goes over them during class to answer any questions. I am very good at math though and had already taken pre cal to give you guys an idea. Still a very good professor and I wish he teached calf. Definitely recommend.
He gives A LOT of homework but he also opens them up at the end of the semester if you didn't finish them. He drops the lowest test and quiz grade as well. The class is boring but as long as you know how to do the test review you should do fine on the test as they're nearly identical. Managed an A in this class and I'm horrific at math.
He is a very helpful professor. He literally writes out all of the steps to example problems. There is no need to by the book for his algebra or precalculus classes. As long as you attend lecture and take notes you should be fine. There are a lot of mymathlab homeworks and quizzes, but it is IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL this class.
Tedious class, but not necessarily difficult. Stay on top of the work and try not to fall behind. Esparza is very sweet, patient, and helpful, but can be a little boring. Would recommend him!
There's A LOT of homework assignments, but to me, the more homework, the better if in case I don't do as well as I thought on a test or something! It's an easy class and the homework makes you keep up! Highly recommend, even if the class can be boring! WHO CARES, just go to class, do the homework, and you're good! :)
Esparza is known as the best algebra and pre-cal teacher at UTSA and I'd have to agree. He's really sweet and makes the class extremely easy. No textbook needed, extensive review for every test that is EXACTLY the same as the test except the numbers might be changed. There is a lot of online homework but it keeps you on top of things and easy 100.
Knows what he's doing in the subject! Took him for pre-cal, and I don't know what any of the other professors are like, but he was good. Not an easy A, but always a review before each test, and it's verrry similar to the test. There's nver a question on the test that wasn't on the review. Asking questions is slightly embarrassing though..
all the notes he gives in class are SUPER helpful! he gives two chances for the quizzes & his exams are just like the test review problems & quizzes!
He is a very good professor but gives homework like crazy. An A is very achievable but you have to work for it. Be present to class if you want to pass, as most of the material he gives you will help with the homework and tests. The test reviews are very much like the tests. Very good class if you don't mind the massive workload.
Although he did assign new homework every day you went to class, it wasn't that long. The most problems he gave were 36 and you had 2 days to do it (3 on weekends). He gave 6 timed quiz's total with two chances. The exams were on point with the reviews he gave in class as well. Easy A if you study for exams and do good on homework. :)
Professor Esparza makes his lectures very easy to follow. He has clear and helpful notes. He really cares about the success of his students and is always willing to answer questions. I would definitely take him again!
Esparza is super goofy. awesome dude. the reviews are just like the test. the only reason i got a B- in his class was because i didnt bother to study for the final and the last test. If you study a little, you should ace his exams.
His class is really helpful because he goes detail by detail and explains if somebody didn't understand. His paper-reviews are very similar to his exams and he usually make a review the class before an exam. His quizzes are from the homework, and you need to pay attention to his notes and explanations.
Professor Esparza is a cool guy. His lectures are a little long, but I dislike math and am not very good at it, so take it for what it's worth. He goes through example problems that are pretty much are what's on the exam. Sometimes, he skips over explaining little steps, but ask, and he'll clarify. Humor's a little dry, but a few gems a lecture.
Esparza is an amazing professor, this guy knows what he's doing. Lectures are very detailed, he goes through the questions step by step. Expect a TON of homework, you will get one every day. As long as you do the homework and do decent on the quizzes and exams. You should be okay. I highly recommend him!
Professor Esparza is a great professor. Gives great notes. He gives a lot of homework but it forces you to keep up with the class. The online quizzes were just like the homework since they both used Pearson's myMathLab. The tests are exactly like the reviews. Just don't miss the deadlines for the hws and online quizzes, do the reviews. Easy A.
This class is for those who have a tough time with math. His lectures are clear and understanding. He allows a calculator and gives you the formulas. He also drops the lowest 3 HW, quiz and an exam which helps ALOT. However there is a TON of homework that is due every other day and forces you to not slack off. Tests are just like the review. B Avg
I took Prof. Esparza Spring 2015 and he was awesome. Make sure to take notes, do your homework on My Math Lab, and if you're having difficulty, utilize the study guide on MML. DO THE EXAM REVIEWS!! He borrows heavily from them. Lots of homework, but that's necessary to learn math. Is available for office hours. Will help students! 3 exams + final
Very clear on his lectures.
great teacher. He gives very straight forward notes and goes at a good pace. He actually cares about his students learning so he does what he can to make sure u understand. There's a fair amount of homework but its not bad at all. MAKE SURE YOU DO HIS TEST REVIEWS THEY LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THE TEST. A bit of dry humor but hes such a nice man.
He's a decent professor and he can be sassy when answering questions in class. Everything he taught in class, I had to learn on my own because his notes weren't all that helpful. He gives test reviews and is overall pretty chill.
Lots of homework and quizzes, but important to learn the material. His lectures consist of definitions and examples. A review for the test is provided and test questions are pulled from the review. If you work hard at understanding the material it will be an easy A. He drops one test grade, quiz grade, and homework grade as well.
If you are willing to take down notes then take this class. Notes are helpful because he explains each step while working the problems out in class. He is a great and kind professor who also has a slight sense of humor.
8:30 am class can be tiring but i would take him again if i were to go to precalc. His lectures go over each problem step by step so it won't hurt to write down He also gives a review before the test and the review is exactly like the test except he changes the numbers. Great professor overall! Easy A just study the test reviews and do the hw/quiz!
His lectures were the most crystal clear lectures I have ever sat through. After each section, he'd give specific examples which really helped understand the notes prior to the example.
The study guide is the test, literally. Easiest class I've ever taken, I went to class about 10 times because he's not strict on attendance. Completely possible if you just do the online homework in a timely manner and take notes on it. Other then that, he's super chill and a good teacher and is pretty inspiring!
Most AMAZING professor ever! Expect lots of homework and some quizzes. He drops some low grades and lowest test score. His reviews are exactly the same as the test. Study that, you will pass your exam with a 100% . I wish I could have him for all my future math classes !
Take this professor over any other professor in regards to PreCalc (MAT1093 ). Consider him as a great option for any math course he teaches that you may need. Very nice guy, test reviews made the tests so much easier and make sure you take your time to go to the Q lab and the MAP sessions in the library for extra help! Overall great experience.
He's very funny and his lectures are crystal clear. He explains each type of problem and walks you through it. He assigns MML homework everyday but it's not difficult if you go to class. There is 6 quizzes and 3 tests and the final that make up your whole grade. He also gives reviews that are very similar to each tests. I highly recommend him.
Professor is an amazing professor. The best math instructor I have ever had in my life. He teaches math the way it should be taught by allowing students to go step by step and ask questions. He holds a review the class before each test. He is very understanding and a super nice guy, very fair with his grading system. I would take him again!
He is super interesting and funny. Lots of homework but don't slack off cuz it help boost your grade at the end. tests are really hard but he offers a review the day before. Lectures are great for hw
Great professor! Took pre-cal on a 5 week summer term. While a lot of homework, I was able to make an A by putting in effort. Reviews are extremely helpful and he is extremely helpful in office hours.
Fall Sem: HOT PEPPER ALERT! If UTSA was the NBA, prof. E would be Michael Jordan! The REVIEW IS BASICALLY THE TEST! if you do it, you have no reason to fail. attendance isnt mandatory. ive seen ppl skip for weeks and pass with A's and Bs. Weekly HW assignments. Drops lowest Test Grade of 3. Take HIM! dont need to purchase the book!
I have Professor Esparza at 8:30 am and he is very kind and has his own sense of humor that often make people laugh. His class is an easy A if you do the homework assignment (2 a week) and do the test review. His reviews are exactly like the test. Attending the lectures isn't needed because my math lab also teaches you. He's a good teacher!!!
Is a very good teacher, plenty of room for mistakes, however, if you fail, it will be your fault! there is a little extra credit, just show up to class and do the work and get the easy A
Prof Esparza is an excellent professor and his lectures are always very clear. He gives out 3 online HW assignments each. Stay on top of your HW and do the test reviews. Only negative is that he gives you questions to review for tests, but when you take the tests, he gives questions much harder than the ones on the review. Overall a chill professor
Loved Professor Esparza! He's very sweet. If you don't understand something he won't move on until you do. There's no reason for you to fail, unless you try really hard, because he offers extra credit, drops lowest grades, and only gives 2 hw assignments a week online. He's also funny and pretty chill. Definitely recommend him.
You really have to work for a good grade in this class. He knows what he is doing. I spent a ton of time studying for this class and still didn't make a B. He also does assign a lot of online homework. Overall he is good.
Plenty of homework. However, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Unlimited tries on homework, easy to understand with the Pearson website he uses. Completely understandable, if you like math you'll appreciate his clarity. When people say he is hard, they probably didn't show up because hes a GREAT teacher. Please consider.
The best math professor I have ever had bar none. His lectures are clear and concise and he explains everything that you need to know to solve the problems. If I could take him for calculus I would.
This is the best math professor i have ever had during my college career. The lectures are awesome and he gives very clear examples of the material. There are homework's that are due every week so you need to stay on the ball with that. Tests are great, the review is extremely helpful. Made a math C student into a math A student.
I am not very good at math but I got an A in this course. Do the homework and study and you will pass. I did seek tutoring for my own understanding but he broke it down enough where you don't need to go. His reviews and quizzes are exactly like the exams. Great professor! A+++
The class is a little boring but I passed. Make sure that if you need help you ask him because his tests are a little hard. The grade is majorly based on my mathlab and tests. However, Professor Esparza is really nice and a he also cares about you doing well in the class. Make sure to study a lot and practice the math questions tons of times.
I liked his lecture style, it made certain math concepts easier to understand. He does the notes with you and in an order that's simple and easy. MML for homeworks, and tests are really straightforward.
Teaches great and makes things easier to understand than other professors teaching course.
Esparza tends to write a lot in terms of math definitions in his lectures (which is odd since this is a math class), and gives tons of homework on MML. However, the homework forces you to practice, which ultimately sets you up for success in the class. Prior knowledge going into this class is also helpful because he doesn't show any shortcuts.
He is an amazing professor. He makes sure everyone is on the right track and tries to make funny jokes in class. Hes a few cute old man.
Professor Esparza is a great professor! He clearly explains in his lectures, and is more than willing to help outside of class if needed. He does assign a lot of homework, but it helps more for the tests and quizzes. He gives detailed reviews before the exam. If you go to class and do the homework and reviews it should be an easy A.
You don't really need the book bc he goes over everything in class step by step. He's lecture heavy but it is a lot of material. He gives A LOT of homework and online quizzes every once in a while. He cares about his students and is willing to meet during office hours. Takes attendance and gives points for it.
Lots of homework but that's how you learn. Quizzes cover HW. Use the review sheet for exams, ALL questions come off it (just different numbers). Drops lowest exam&quiz and 3 lowest HW scores. Does take attendance! He's an excellent teacher and gives lots of examples in class - take notes, you'll succeed! I would recommend him for Precalc :)
He gives tons of homework!! The notes in class don't help either. You pretty much learn how to do the homework by the step by step tutorials on mymathlab. He takes attendance for a grade as well.
Attendance is a grade. If you plan on skipping class, he is not right for you. You sign in on a sheet of paper he passes around. His notes are very well, but if you are't paying attention you will miss them pretty quick. He makes sure you understand and doesn't mind redoing a problem to help you. Reviews day before each test. Review is on mymathlab
Professor Esparza is great! He is knowledgeable about everything he speaks about. Be prepared to take notes everyday. Exams are exactly the same questions from study guide just different numbers. We basically had a conversation within 10 minutes by emailing, he will respond to your emails. 2 homeworks a week online. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!
first D i ever made. reviews make you think youll pass the test , but the tests are the reviews on steroids.
Professor Esparza is highly intelligent. He has multiple Master's degrees and even worked for NASA before! With that being said, he seems a little overqualified to teach College Algebra. He would be better at teaching higher math in my opinion. His class and lectures are easy, straightforward, but VERY boring. This is coming from a math lover.
Esparza is way too smart to be teaching college algebra. His lectures are boring. He gives crazy amount of homework. I took this class thinking I was going to learn in class but most of the help came from MyMathLab examples. His exams are hard. You really have to learn everything he teaches. Attendance is also mandatory.
Unless you know exactly what is going on with EVERY problem on the review, you are going to fail the test. Study continually, make sure you understand everything before moving on or it will bite you later. Comprehensive final.
He explain the topics really well. There are lots of hw but they help you for his tests.
Show up to lecture, follow along with the notes, do the homework, and you'll be fine. His lectures are perhaps not exciting, but they're incredibly organized and cover all they need to. If you have questions, he responds to email quickly. Fair amount of homework, but that's better for you in the long run. Reviews and tests are very similar.
Great teacher, but don't wait till the last min to do the HW or you wont pass/understand the information.
the test are confusing, even if you study the review. the reviews are 60 questions and the test are only 20 questions. the questions on the test are the opposite of the questions given on the exam
He was one of the best Math professors I've ever had. His instructions are clear and precise. He would show you multiple examples during class. If you don't understand it the first time, he'll explain it either during class or during his office hours if needed. Would recommend for anyone to take. Just be ready for a lot of homework.
Edwards is a really good professor knows his stuff. This class is required to be in the college of business. So if you can't ace this class you most likely will have difficulty in other business classes. Calculus comes easy to me and his lectures are detailed but if you need extra help there's always ways to get them. Dry humor.
Mr. Esparza's class isn't difficult if you REALLY put in the work. All of the homework's, and quizzes are on MML. Two homework's a week, One quiz every two weeks, one exam each month. He drops the lowest exam, lowest quiz, and lowest two homework's however so that may help.
Professor Esparza gives A LOT of homework. If you don't want to spend 4+ hours a week on My Math Lab, avoid him. He takes attendance everyday. Tests are very hard & not always exactly like the review. BUT he does drop one test (only 3 tests & the final), 3 homework & one quiz! He is a good prof, but not for somebody who struggles in math like me.
BEST MATH TEACHER AT UTSA. HE KNOWS HIS SUBJECTS AND IS WILLING TO HELP YOU. GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND WITH HIS STUDENTS. LOTS OF HOMEWORK AND 6 QUIZZES THROUGH THE SEMESTER. YOU MUST BE DEDICATED FOR THIS CLASS!
You can teach yourself if you get notes but don't, you'll regret it. This class was okay and he could honestly make it way easier than it is right now. Review before every test but test is usually harder and different, homework helps a lot, 6 quizzes, they're ok in difficulty. Mathway helps a ton but so does taking good notes and going to class
The content of the course was complicated but professor esparza did a great job at explaining! His lecture is not very fast and makes sure everyone understands. HOWEVER his course has A LOT OF HW! You will be doing 4 hours or more of homework, but it is not very hard & the tests problems come straight from the HW. I really recommend him!
Professor Esparza is a great calculus professor. He gives study guides for every test, class is VERY homework heavy but is done on MML so thats really helpful, quiz every 2 weeks, attendance is not mandatory BUT SHOW UP TO CLASS!! its more likely he will round your grade in the end. also,TI-30XS MULTIVIEW! test approved, wish I had known sooner.
Professor Esparza is truly the best professor I have had in college. He is extremely caring and has a funny dry sense of humor. The class consists of 2 homeworks each week, 6 quizzes, 3 tests and a final. He drops your lowest of 3 test grades, 2 homeworks, and 1 quiz. If you study and put effort into the class its an easily achievable A.
Definitely wouldn't recommend taking this professor. Professor is very test heavy with exams worth 50% of class and the final 25%. This means 75% of the class is graded on test performance overall. Professor offers no form of extra credit or test curves when it comes to testing which makes it really difficult for students to succeed.
Professor is very test heavy. 50% tests, 15% homework, 10% quizzes and 25% final. Tests are roughly 18 questions each with no room for extra credit or curve. Only take this class if you are sure you are a good test taker, otherwise no matter how good you do on homework and quizzes you'll still do badly.
Bad professor
Expect to do roughly 90 math questions each week for homework. Homework only counts for 10% of the grade for as much homework is required of students. If you dont do good on exams you wont pass.
There is a lot of homework but it is very helpful for the quizzes and tests. You should be able to at least make a B on the tests if you complete the review, the test questions are almost the same as the review. His lectures are easy to follow along and the class is straightforward. You can make an A if you actually do your work
Homework is on my math lab. Tests are multiple choice. Hes smart but is a little fast. Funny and cares about his students. Probably the only decent calculus for business option.
Professor Espsarza is the a great teacher. He presents notes to the class that are extremely well organized. He makes himself available outside of class and by email. He has organized MMLAB in a way that makes using it not so much of a pain. He seems to waste no effort and everything he does has a purpose. Take his notes in class-->Study-->Pass.
Esparza is a really smart and sweet professor. He gives you extra credit, and you really just need MML for homework. And yes, he did do one group project for a math class, but it was really simple.
A stickler... use it to your advantage. He has a very clear syllabus and grading system, assigns a lot of homework but it is easy and can make a whole letter grade difference. DO THE TEST REVIEW! Very similar to the test.
Currently taking have a C at midterms with a 79. Reviews similar to test. You get 4 absences and theres multiple hw every wk(about 2). Utilize campus tutoring!
TAKE HIM! I am REALLY bad at math but I am going to pass this class with a C because I did 3 things. I went to class, took notes and spent at least 2 hours on the homework trying to figure it out twice a week! He is very caring and will help you out IF you show you care! Homework is a LOT but break it down and you will love that you took him!
I wish he could do more examples and actually teach students. He makes other students feel dumb with his sarcastic remarks and class is just boring.
He is the best calculus for business professor in my opinion. Tests are 50% of grade. 2 HW assignments a week. However, during the corona pandemic, he really didn't offer any extra help or lenience for this class. We have to teach ourselves now based on his written notes and are expected to take the test without any notes.
Professor Esparza is an amazing professor and does a good job at explaining during lectures. My only problem with him is that I would wish he would give more examples during lecture
Prof. Esparzas teaching method did not help me. After class I would have to research how to do problems or use my math lab to show me examples. During the pandemic, he only uploaded notes for new material and didnt elaborate on anything! He gives 2 homeworks a week even when you have an exam that week. He does drop one exam. I wouldnt recommend
His personality was sarcastic every time I had his class, and he would get upset when the entire class didn't understand the material. He got upset because I missed one of the homework assignments and send an awful email to me.
I enjoyed professor Esparza. His class was hard but he was approachable and helpful during office hours. Its important to attend class, take notes. Study for the tests. He is very responsive to emails.I know other people reviews are bad but if I can make an A than everyone else can get a good grade if you put in the effort.
Doesnt seem to care about his students. Assigns a lot of homework but doesnt teach us how to do it. You have to learn on your own using MathLab. Overall one of the worst professors Ive had so far.
Great teacher to increase knowledge on math. I had him when he had to switch the format to online classes and he provided very detailed and helpful videos for the harder topics.
He's ehh, okay. Lot of homework assignments due and got lazy teaching. I used Khan Academy for the first three months of class before he decided to actually teach. You're better off with a professor who cares more. He did let me retake a quiz I missed though so he can be lenient at times per the Pandemic, but like I said, I'd choose another prof.
If youre looking to actually learn and understand math I wouldnt recommend this prof. It was basically self learn the entire semester. Lots of homework but is a good way to keep your grade up if you aim for As on them. You really have to know your stuff for quizzes and tests and I had a rough start at the beginning. Overall hes ehhh.
The transition form in person to online didn't go so well for Professor Esparza. His teaching methods were really that great, just going over the notes was not the best way to teach math. I personally think that he should have used different methods since the class was online. When reaching out for help, he seemed like he didn't want to help.
Professor Esparza does not teach well. His lectures are just him reading notes he made, nothing you cant do on your own. ALOT OF HOMEWORK but did drop some at the end. 4 tests including the final, very similar to the review given. If your not that good at math I wouldn't recommend. You basically have to teach yourself.
One of the best math professors, his lectures were very interesting and easy to understand. Really enjoyed his class and wish I could take him again, such a nice and interesting person and very willing to help during office hours
If I liked math and didn't struggle so much this class would have been a lot easier! You can tell Professor Esparza genuinely loved math and his job by his lectures, but if you listen with an open ear you'll be fine. Sometimes his lectures get monotonous and you'll see harder questions on the homework than in class.
His lectures are critical to passing as he doesnt record or upload his notes. If you take good notes and do the homework on time, the quizzes arent very difficult. The tests are mostly from the homework and quizzes so it isnt hard to get good grades. Hes pretty responsive when it comes to emails and is available to help explain after class.
Very great teacher.
Very Understanding
He just lectures and doesn't explain the content well. The homework is all online and you basically have to teach yourself on Matlab.
Some people dislike his lecture heavy format, but I don't know what he should do differently. Calculus requires a lot of stuff and he goes in teaching it to you step by step from the ground up. He treats us like we know no math, and I think that's important for a class as hard as Calculus. Overall, did a really good job teaching a hard course.
Gotta learn how to pace yourself with Professor Esparza. He throws you into the math and sort of expects you to do it on your own? It was difficult to pay attention and keep going to class, but you can teach yourself with the homework assignments.
This course basically can be taken online. The lectures only go over notes, but the professor is nice and sweet. Esparza is very interesting as well. Dont take this class in the morning though
Lectures go over notes. I took this class in the morning, I am a morning person so it worked out to go home and nap after. If you're not a morning person don't pick his morning class because it's a bit lengthy. Great and well-respected professor. He is so helpful, if you have to miss class he'll help you outside of class as well.
The homework really isn't that bad and it helps a lot for the tests. The majority of your grade is the tests but if you do the review and look over your quizzes you will be fine. I love the professors lectures and think he's a very easy going guy. Enjoyed the class a lot!
Professor Esparza did a very good job at his teaching and provided great examples that helped on assignments. He was very helpful during his office hours so if you need any help go to his office hours. He's a respectful professor and he is willing to help if you ask. There is an online textbook through mymathlab.
This teacher is one of a kind, he really is a good professor and explains the material very thoroughly, always be on class as that is how he teaches his class and missing one really messes up your learning, his lectures are amazing, and the material is easy to learn with him.
