Very interesting and funny in that political way. I enjoyed his humor and his Power Points were very helpful.
He is a good guy. He doesn't act better than you, and is very knowledgeable. Also, he is a very fair political professor, to both sides, and this is a rare thing among most professors, let alone those in the history or political spectrum. He's funny too!

Latin American Political systems is an interesting class. Good Professor who's willing to help ya. I enjoyed it.
Energetic and funny. He doesn't overload with the work. There isn't a better teacher in the department.
Very knowledgeable, extremely organized. Dr. Guernica is definitely one of my fav profs. He's very human in his approach to teaching, but very professional. Good sense of humor. Do the reading and take notes in class and you will do fine. I would very highly recommend him.
He's a very smart guy and definately knows what he's talking about. He's got a good sense of humor and I like that he doesn't talk about his own political views. Very professional and approachable but get ready to do quite a bit of reading.
Great guy, he is very friendly, and clearly knows his stuff. He'll go out of his way to help you if you need it, but as long as you do the readings(which can get lengthy) and take decent notes, or at least look over the lectures, then you'll do just fine.
Wow, really knows is politics. Very nice guy and very helpful if you're unclear. Lots of reading, but if you read it you'll do just fine.
He is a very nice guy! I totally was dreading this class, but ended up being my favorite class. Makes things interresting and puts a fun twist on his lectures. There is a lot of reading, but you will get used to it. Very down to earth, treats you as an equal. I would highly reccomend him!
Great class. Fun yet learned a lot. A nice guy to talk to and had good presentations for us.
He's a good professor and will help if you go talk to him. His tests are kind of hard, but just go to the classes and you should be fine.
Well it's an interesting class, but quizzes are hard, however the midterm is super easy. Just keep up with the reading and the class is ok!
My favorite prof this semester. His class is really interesting, and he is really cool. I would totally recommend any class he teaches! READ THE BOOK (it's not that bad)
was a great class, i found it very interesting even though im not really big in politics. His first couple quizes are hard but they get easier as class goes on
This prefessor is excellent. Very clear and very intelligent. Lecture outlines are available online and it is a good idea to download them and your computer to class because he covers much more than what is on his outlines
Good Professor. The quizzes tend to be in large quantities, and hard. Mid term is super easy. Overall good professor.
I absolutly loved this class, He made me want to be a poli sci major. All lectures are online before hand, and its just a pretty darn good class, good awesome guy and really knows his stuff
Not too bad of a class I got bored really easy. But he tried to make it so we understood what he was explaining. The tests were hard because they were on 9 freakin' chapters. The paper wouldn't have been so bad if I had started it earlier.
the class was boring for me because i am not interested in politics whatsoever. He did a good job of trying to relate the information and make it interesting. There were only two tests, and they were quite difficult because they were on so many chapters. virtually no homework. only the two tests, and paper at the end. hes a fun professor thoug
Awesome teacher, hard tests, lit review blah
Definitely knows his stuff and enjoys teaching it. Class is decently hard as there are a lot of things to read and the tests aren't super easy. Quizzes are big though, make sure you go to class on quiz days and save your quizzes because those questions are used on tests. Studying for tests are hard because so many terms to know. Overall, good class
i loved this guy. unlike most teachers, he doesnt act arragant and annoyed with opinions. i just wanna give him a big hug sometimes
Such a nice, friendly guy. Class is always interesting and I learn things, not only about the class subject matter, but about the world. He truly cares about his students and what they have to say, and he is a phenomenal teacher. I want to take every single class he offers!
I would def. recommend this class. You use every book besides the Critical Thinking one; ironic, i know. He gets you genuinely interested and he is a hilarious professor. If you try, he will do anything to help you. Take Latin American Revolutions; you won't regret it.
Interesting class. 2 tests, 1 final. Learned a lot.
great guy, wonderful teacher relax and clear.
This is the laziest professor I have ever ever had. It took him months to return papers that we had written, we never even got back quizzes that were taken, and the final..still waiting for that grade. He is a good professor..although history is always dry. Good professor but his lack of ambition is very frustrating.
He's a good professor. He makes things interesting and always has a joke or 2 to inject in his lectures. He's very helpful and approachable. I did feel like some of the smaller assignments were busy work though.
Great guy. Freakin hilarious!! Gets the class super involved in discussion. A lot of what is on the quizzes and tests are off what is said in class and what is shown on videos, so attendance is absolutely crucial for this class. It isn't boring though, so going to it every time won't seem like a burden. Highly recommended!
Nice, but not sure what he expects of you. Isnt really clear about homework. I didnt know anything about the class and it was a 300 level class and did OK.
Lazy.. He is an interesting guy and knows his stuff, but he has the most random quizzes and tests. Lots of true and false which can be tricky. He doesn't respond to emails. Classes can be pretty funny and if you miss a couple it won't hurt you. He is an ok guy, good not great.
Guernica makes a relatively boring class interesting and gives T/F quizzes very often that are super easy. You can get most of them right even if you skip class. Tests are sorta difficult but not too bad. Gives lots of extra credit and does film reviews which aren't hard. Nice guy and an cool class. Recommend this clas.
Interesting Prof. I enjoyed his lectures, and he frequently showed videos. Which were nice; I kinda missed the good ol' movie days. He always has interesting quips that he throws into his lectures. I am taking more classes from him. Recommend.
Slightly difficult class if you don't like statistics, but he's very helpful and will help you out whenever you need it. I've had him for many classes and he's one of the most helpful and nicest professors I've had.
Really great professor! Loved the class, its really interesting and you learn a lot about how to look at everyday things in a critical way. Cancels class a lot, there is a huge literature review but if you go to him to talk about your rough draft you'll get a good grade on it. Take this professor!
I knew nothing about Political Science and ended up with an A in the class. Studied a lot for the midterm and final. It was hard to pay attention because I did not care as much about the topics but I did learn alot more. He is a very nice teacher and is willing to help you if you ask. Quizes are hard and some are super easy. Good luck:)
Great Professor-- If you haven't taken a Political Science class before he is a great professor to start with. Go to class because he gives you a ton of extra points for just going to class.
LEAST FAVORITE TEACHER OF ALL TIME. very fat and lazy professor.all we do is watch movies. the textbooks are awful. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASs
Nice guy. Cool guy. Very informal. Conservative (not that it matters). I personally don't like his teaching style, but I can see how it works for others. Someone below said good not great. I can agree with that.
Guernica is very cool professor. the material is kind of boring bc its on mexico and canadian politics, etc but he would throw in some fun videos to watch. thought the exams were going to be hard bc they are short essay types but honestly easiest things ever! lots of movies!! good class to take to get rid of ur global perspectives general credit!
Great prof
I love this professor. Very open, willing to help and answer questions. The material I found interesting and his tests and quizzes are easy. I would highly recommend this professor. All you need to do is show up for class.
One of my favorite people ever - such a nice and funny guy who really wants his students to do well; he even makes study sessions on his own time and ordered us dinner once, how many people would do that? Great prof & great person in general!
My favorite professor at the University. Very knowledgeable and you learn a lot in class. I try to take a class with him every semester.
Guernica is great! I was min my first semester as a freshman when I had him, and it was great. His lectures are really clear, as are his tests. You need to study of course, but he will help you if you need extra help. He's got a quirky, fun sense of humor and is extremely knowledgeable and likes what he does. Definitely recommend!
Very blunt. Will answer any questions. I enjoyed him quite a bit, but he's not your typical professor. I'd recommend him to anyone who is willing to listen to his ramblings. Good guy.
The best ever professor I have ever had in my life
I didn't enjoy this class at first, but he is a genuinely nice guy. He makes it interesting, and you have to actually go, but it's really not all that hard. Gives very few quizzes, a couple tests, NO homework, so points are hard to come by. 10/10 would recommend.
I've taken three classes with him so far. I don't know what it was about this one compared to the others he taught, but he was extremely lazy, did not follow the syllabus, inadequate feedback and the "study guides" he provide were very vague. Don't take a night class with him. Very boring lectures that stray of topic far too often.
Be at every class, do the ready & participate & you will do well. Very smart guy; if you're a political junkie (and you should be if you're taking this class), you'll love it!
This professor is very awesome. You can get along with him so well and have very good discussion with him. He is very blunt, funny and passionate about his class. I have a blast in his class however, it is a bit challenging but he gives SOO MANY extra credit options! Lectures are very important, you learn most from his rants. Hard but a good class.
You get almost a quiz a week. It's tough because he's not very good at lecturing, and it's hard to pay attention and then a quiz every week is rough to keep up with. I wouldn't take this class, if I could avoid it.
He was a great professor! He is quick to answer questions and is always helpful! He will stop anything to answer a question or make sure you understand. His classroom is always light and happy; we have tons of fun talking politics or football before classes. I would recommend taking his class if you can!
Lectures are always entertaining and understandable. Stops at nothing to explain a concept or answer a question -at length- and -in depth-. A very humorous guy who enjoys his football and current events. If you must take this class, take it with him!!
His class was very easy, clear to follow for the most part, and he is very funny. You build a nice relationship with him and class discussions are always fun. Test are kind of tough if you don't read or listen in class. Always give extra credit though. Easy grader. Very understanding. Interesting course material but can drag on. I'd recommend.
I've taken Guernica for several classes & hes great! Usually the grade hinges on a few tests or papers &participation. Most of his classes are discussion based though Ive had one (POLS332) that was mostly lecture which was fine too because hes good at it. My only complaint about him is hes kind of a Luddite who tends to go on giant irrelevant rants
No homework, only quizzes and exams. Lot's of extra-credit on the exams so they're easy. Guernica's lectures are fun and he shows a lot of videos. I feel like I learned a lot from him although he has a habit of getting off-topic.
Guernica is consistently late to class which wastes your time. If you don't go to every single class you will not do good, he gives a lot of quizzes and doesn't always tell you when they will be. He gives you way too much to read in a short amount of time and your grade is entirely dependent on quizzes and tests.
Professor Guernica is the best. I graduated almost four years ago and I still use things he taught me almost every day. He's hilarious, incredibly accommodating, and super helpful. He will forever be a huge reason I even graduated.
I would not recommend him as professor. He was very poor on teaching the material and gets off topic easily. He expects you to know a lot of things going into the course. He does not put your grades into the grade book to make accessible. I asked him 4 times what my grade was and he never got back to me with an answer.
A very nice and knowledgable guy. Lecture heavy, but you do get to watch videos a lot. Read the selected chapters in the books and pay attention in lectures. Quizzes are every other week or so, and the only tests are the midterm and the final. Quizzes are multiple choice and tests are short answer. If you study you'll do well. Very approachable.
He is a interesting guy. Super knowledgable but does little things that are weird. He talks the whole time and unless you know a lot about politics it all goes over your head. Always late to class, lots of cancelled classes, and not very organized. Overall nice guy easy class just weird class.
Pretty funny and relaxed guy. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for some sort of introduction to political science.
Best prof @ WSU
I took this class as a filler elective, and was hoping it was an EASY A, but it was just a bit harder than I expected. Part of it being he uses his own website instead of D2L where all of your quizzes will be online. It wasn't necessarily his fault that his website was malfunctioning all the time, but it was frustrating for us. Great class though
This prof is awesome. I have taken him for multiple classes&honestly its not bad&u laugh a lot. His classes seem confusing, but he's an easy grader&u can b.s through his classt a B no problem. U do have 2 study before test&do some work, but it's minimal. U def dont have to do all the work assigned. Some test are T/F & person next 2u grades u lol
There was very little structure to this course, at times it was difficult to know what was expected of you.
Funny guy. He lays his opinions out in the open and likes to crack lots of jokes not all are always funny. He does give extra credit so make sure you know your stuff. Mid term and final involve memorizing a lot of info but has extra credit. Loves questions and the text book actually isn't boring and has decently short chapters compared to others
This was the most frustrating class I have taken. We were required to buy HIS online textbook which had little to no information actually used in the class. He does not use D2L or his website. Found out what my grade was days before the final, takes forever to respond to emails and is one of the most bias professors I have ever encountered. Sad
Great class for those interested in international politics. I knew nothing of European politics before taking this class, but now I am a lot more knowledgable on the subject. You are graded by 4 or 5 exams, but the lowest score is dropped. The exam on the European Union is tough but manageable. Learning about the EU is interesting anyway.
Dr. Guernica is a cool guy who is clearly knowledgable in this area. However, the course was disorganized and unclear. Much of the content that you're tested on seems irrelevant to the course itself - obscure tangents from his lecture and articles that are quietly posted on D2L but not discussed in class at all. He does not respond to email.
Professor Guernica is friendly guy, but I did not like him as a professor. You can expect him to spend almost half of every class period ranting about President Trump. He claims it ties into the material, but usually it seems more like he just wants an audience to listen to his anti-Trump remarks. Decent prof when on topic, just a bit disorganized
very cool and smart guy, however the online text is 100 dollars for about 1 page of material and a quiz. seems like this could be done on d2l for free. midterm and final are open ended question style which is imo ridiculous for a 100 level course. quiz questions are poorly worded and or trick question type for no reason. its not that serious bro
The class itself was not hard however, he is not good at responding to emails at all. There were a couple times I emailed him about something important and he never responded. I would send another email next day to try and get a response, he just didnt respond. Ultimately, ended up not being able to make up work for classes due to lack of replies
Overall a really great teacher that I would reccommend. COVID hasn't been easy, but Dr. Guernica would be a good class to take if you're stressed about online classes. Heavy on lectures, watching movies on fridays, a few discussions throughout the semester and a couple tests (midterm +final). Take this course!
He cancelled several classes due to construction on his house but I found his lectures to be fun and entertaining with interesting pieces of information that could be made into extra credit questions. His classes were 50 percent the midterm and the final with the rest being attendance and a short paper. Responded in a timely manner to emails.
I personally felt like Dr. Guernica was overall a good professor. I like the fact that his tests for European Politics are essays rather than just typical exams. One thing that I will say, however, is that he can be very forgetful sometimes, and doesn't post some stuff that he says he would. But overall, I think he's a solid choice for a professor.
Dr. Guernica is a really nice guy and passionate about the subject but he lacks a lot of organization that would be really helpful. He rambles on about current events in his lectures instead of the material. He also never posts the items we are supposed to be reading or responds to emails. Just ignore him in class and read through your textbooks.
OK, this guy is very smart and if he applied himself, he'd be an Ambassador or Senator. He tends to slack and get off on a rant, especially about President Trump, but when he's on his game and really in the groove, he'll take you to a new place in learning. I wish that guy showed up more! He knows so much about everything, he just aims too low
Not a fan. He doesn't respond to emails, and his organization is really bad.
Professor is very disorganized, cancels class last minute, takes a long time to respond to emails and is not clear on his expectations for the course. Often talks about nonsense not related to the course during the scheduled lecture time and then tells you to go watch his prerecorded lectures on D2L. Hard to find anything on his class D2L page.
Lectures every class period. The slides are posted on D2L but you should still go to class because some of the things on the final and the midterm are only mentioned in class. The textbook is online, and it is also where you take your quizzes and view your grade, so you are required to buy it.
He is a nice guy and he can be fun to talk to, but he uses class time as social hour quite often. There are two exams, one group project, and a paper that counted for the entire grade. If you go to class you should be fine, but make sure to study hard for the midterm and final. He can be really disorganized at times and it's easy to get lost.
Very knowledgable but goes off track A LOT about nonsense. Swears and talks about his hatred for Trump daily. Gave 3 attempts at chapter quizzes so it was pretty much impossible to not get a good grade on them. No papers, just the midterm and final.
One thing that sticks out about Guernica is that he understands and cares about his students mental health.
