He's really nice, and very funny and he gives fair tests
Great person with the warmest smile
Could be the nicest professor at York. Genuinely interested in people's studies
Wonderful. Experienced, clear & concise. Tests focued on too few topics
This guy rocks!
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD AT YORK!
Best professor at York. Has fun personality and a great sense of humour!!!
Really great and supportive, one of the best prof's I've ever had!
ALwyas approachable and willing to help. Always has a smile for his students.

Best Stats. Prof Ever! Amazing teacher...funny guy
I don't stats before and I HATE it.... and I still do. But having him as a prof makes it a lot easier to understand the material and more motivating to attend classes.
Great professor!! Makes a boring subject like statistics fun and interesting. Very easy!
GREAT teacher, explains everything very well, makes the subject interesting and easy to understand.
He is an awesome teacher, he is the best teacher I've had at york so far, I wish he would have been able to teach stats 2 in the summer as well. He explains things so well anyone can get it. Awesome Teacher.
Awesome teacher!
Ed rocks. I've had two classes with him and he's a cut above the usual bums they sick on us at York.
Excellent prof!
He's very laid back but also helpful when you need him. He's not gonna tell you what to do,...you're on your own but he definitely gives you useful guidance if you ask for it. Great class. Great Prof. Take the course you won't be sorry.
Organizational Psychology is an excellent course. I strongly recommend everyone to take it.
Excellent prof! The best at explaining concept and drilling them in until everyone understands. A lot of focus on defintions on the exams but otherwise awesome guy!
As awful as taking a summer stats course sounds, Ed was amazing. The 3 hrs flew by partly because he is quite funny, and for the most part not boring. He explained the material with a lot of clarity and ensured that everyone understood.Exams were easy.
this research methods course was horrible...the first exam was postponed bc we got the wrong 1...the project we had 2 do had no outline...no1 knew wht they were supposed 2 do..no marking scheme either
Yes, we did get the wrong midterm, but when we got the real midterm it was really basic. He's really nice and helpful if you ask. Lecture was a bit disorganized, so read the text. Great prof, I would recommend taking his classes!
He is an amazingly laid back prof. But his class was fun. You are barely there! Got an "A" in his course!!! Wooooooooohooooooo!!!
The first exam was pretty easy, but the final was a bit tricky, so don't be fooled, it will get harder. Research assignment was a lot of fun, I felt like a real psychologist!!!! And it really prepares you for intermediate research methods.
Incredibly clear, super laid back. If you can handle a less structured, less formal lecture, this prof's for you. He sits at the front and makes it feel like he's just having a casual conversation with you. Pleasant demeanor, funny jokes.
Ed is easily one of the best professors at York University. His lectures are awesome and his tests are fair. He is also very approachable and helpful. I would definitely recommend taking a course with him.
Awesome prof! Walked in terrified of stats, walking out proud of what I've learned. Drills concepts until everyone gets it. We need more profs like this man!
One could not ask for a better Professor than Ed for the thesis course. Incredibly friendly, helpful, laid-back and a very fair marker. He wants his students to succeed.
Very fun and easy prof.. One of the York's best profs..
explains as much as needed.
amazing thesis prof...laidback, helpful, clearly explains everything and most of all, geniunely seems to care about his students...he really wants you to do well in this course...i highly recommend taking any courses taught by haltrecht!!!! he's one of the best profs i've ever had in pysch!!!
Very interesting course and this prof is one of the bests at York.. This university needs more profs like him..
clear, helpfull and calm
I never knew math could be so interesting and easy. This professor is the best I've had at York.
if u're not a math person, this guy is good for u. he makes everything pretty simple and easy to understand. tests are very fair. if u do poorly, u obviously didn't pay attention or study. good and fun professor.
Definately one of the best profs @ York. Clear, helpful, explains in a way that everything makes sense. Cares about students. Exams are very fair, pay attention in class and you'll do well.
i highly recommened prof haltrecht for your thesis...he was always willing to help & offer advice and guidance, but be prepared, you're on your own for the most part...overall, i had the most amazing time carrying out my research study, so much so, that if i could, i'd take psyc4170 with this prof again :)
he wasnt very prepared 4 lectures...had some notes that he would refer 2 once in a while...diagrams on board are very confusing...not very helpful..he expects the ta's to do all the work
Amazing thesis prof!!! I had the best experience in his class & highly recommend him!!
Took intro to research methods with this prof. He makes what can be a very boring subject very interesting. Loved this class.
He explains everything really well so his tests are really easy. He makes the class interesting. Take him for statistics and you'll do better than you would with any other professor.
Great Class. Prof. Haltrect knows his stuff and doesn't make the class boring, like some psych courses. Although a major research project worth 45% is assigned, it is an easy way to get marks. If you do your readings and work, not a hard class to get an A in.
I loved him. Its a statistics course so you go in dreading the subject. He made it so easy to understand. He didn't even show one stupid slide. He used old fashion chalk and a blackboard. It would be hard not to ace this course. You really don't even need to study. Just go to lectures.
Course is a breeze - he simply regurgitates the book. A very easy read! The project is the only bad part in this course - one of the TA's (Chantel - absolutely horrible to get to mark your papers). Otherwise, interesting lectures and great course!
1 of the best profs EVER!Absolute genius! Made the course so easy to understand. Go to class, keep up with the work and u'll do fine. This guy is THE prof for teaching stats. All other profs need to take a few lessons from him. AND he found shortcuts in the lessons to make the work easier. Simply the BEST!
Amazing teacher!!!! REALLY nice guy
Great guy...makes learning fun...genuinely wants to help students learn the material
good prof. wants to help students understand material therefore very helpful and approachable. very funny guy!
Iam in KINE and I took his stats 1 class as I heard it was really easy. Ed makes the material really easy. The tests are really straight forward, just read the book and you can easily pull an A+.
AMAZING PROF! Never taken a math course since highschool - many moons ago - and makes it interesting and entertaining. Explains the reasoning behind the formulas and will answer all your questions. If you need stats - this is the guy to go to. There's no one better. i dreaded taking the course but i couldn't have chose a better prof. mathmagician
i dropped a previous stats course cuz the prof was brutal...but Ed Haltrecht is truly awesome. No one explains and simplifies stats like he can and his exams are fair and allows 3 hours to write them. His TA, Stacey, is extremely helpful and kind. Highly recommended.
He's the best you could ever have for subject like stats. He's awesome. Easy exams. Loved it
very nice professor you can get an easy A if u read the text
Great Prof. I had him for statistics, so scared going in...horrible at math...I got an 80%...You cannot leave his class without learning.
An amazing teacher that will let you actaully listen through class! He made stats so easy, to the point that you really didn't need to read the text! Fair tests, as long as you do practise problems from the book you will do extremely well =)
THIS IS AN AMAZZZINGG PROF WHICH I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE UNIV LIFE!!...HE MAKES STATS LOOK LIKE A BREEZE. HE REALLY REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF.. AS THE OTHERS SAID.. MAKE SURE U READ THE TEXTBOOK AND DO ALL THE PROBS. ONCE AGAIN IF U CAN TAKE ALL THE COURSES THAT HE TEACHES. IF THE CLASS DOESNT GET IT, HE WOULD REPEAT IT TONS OF TIMES AMAZZZINGG!!
great prof for stats! teaches exactly what's in the textbook and is very clear. helpful and funny! tests are straightforward so just read the textbook, do some questions and you'll be fine!
great prof for stats! teaches exactly what's in the textbook and is very clear. helpful and funny! tests are straightforward so just read the textbook, do some questions and you'll be fine!
An amazing Stats professor. This is the person you should get to teach you stats. He made me interested in stats and the tests are great since you put in the effort you get the grade no complications. I took this in the summer and there was 1 exam worth 50% + 1 test worth 50%. The study guide helps for this course and I would recommend it.
Makes stats crystal clear, and simplifies concepts to make them super easy to understand. If you read the textbook, the concepts seem quite complex, but he explains everything in a very straight forward manner. Math-inclined people will do well in this course regardless of prof, but non-math people will really benefit from this guy.
What a wonderful professor. I almost changed my major because I was so scared of stats but then I took it with him and WOW. I understood EVERY concept! Yes, I had to practice the questions from the book, but once I sat in his lecture and heard him explain the concepts it made PERFECT sense. Amazing prof! Take stats with him, TRUST ME! He's AMAZING!
I LOVE HIM! amazinggg teacher! he made stats so easy!
He is an awesome prof! He teaches straight from the text book. If you follow the questions in the text then ur set! I dreaded stats, but know im actually looking forward to stats 2! lol.
An amazing professor and one that managed to actually make stats interesting and easier than I ever would have believed possible. I would recommend purchasing the study guide and doing the problems in the book. If you have to take stats, he's definitely the one to take it with.
lacking sleep for 6 weeks in the summer term, his lectures kept me awake and INTERESTED! he was da'bomb. I even went up and shook his hand and said a thank you at the end, just cuz he's the best prof you'll ever have for stats
AMAZING!!! A teacher who knows how to TEACH. He made stats so easy to understand, and finds ways of explaining concepts in a way for anyone and everyone to understand. I took stats before and failed...and now in his class I'm getting an 80! The professor you have makes ALL the difference...GO WITH HALTRECHT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT ;)
Does a great job making complex concepts understandable and relevant.
He's a great prof! He makes you understand stats so well! and he's funny!
The best prof ever! He makes stats so easy to understand and actually makes you interested in the material!! something I would never expect from a stats course...anyways i def recommend him!
Someone give this man a trophy. He is an amazing prof who is there to break stats down to you as simply as possible. My strongest subject is not math and I got high 80's in this class. Go to class and read the text because it goes step by step with everything. He really is an amazing prof.
he's AMAZING!! what else can I say about this man... wow
he is one, if not THE best professor I've had at york, believe it or not he has allowed for me to ENJOY stats... i know i know. Appearantly he also teaches 4170, definately take it because he is one of a kind! and the best sense of humour!
Ed's the greatest! Take any course with him that you can. Lectures are truly useful because he provides a really clear perspective on the material. The thing about Stats is that you have to also do a ton of work on your own or you won't do well on the exams. However, if you do all the practise work he advises, you can do really well. Thanks, Ed!
He is absolutly the best prof i have ever had. First class where no one was alseep during any classes. He made everything relivant, and very interesting with his humorous teaching. He is also a very easy prof to speak to with questions. and unlike other profs he lets you know that you dont have to get the newest text book and any version works!
Really great professor. Besides being hilarious, his explanations of the concepts are crystal clear. The exams are very fair and totally straight forward. There's no reason for anyone not to do very well in this class.
i havnt touched math since gr 11 and was scared id do horribly, this prof is the sole reason i got a A in this class. he'l have a conversation with the class, and b4 u know it, he'l say "u guys just figured out this formula on ur own" and everything just clicks. first proff i ever rated on here, im in 5th yr
He does not explain anything... but he is easy on the test.
AMAZING professor. My favorite so far in my 3 years at York. He makes Stats fun (sort of) and takes the time to thoroughly explain concepts, while maintaining an air of friendliness and encouragement. Very understanding when it comes to assignments. Definitely take STATS with him!!!!
One of my favourite profs at York. Definitely take a Stats class with him!
I took this class with another prof and ened up with a 40% on my mid-term... Took it with Ed and had and 85% on the mid-term.... all about the prof!!!!
This prof is fantastic. He tells you exactly what you need to know, and explains it in a way that's easy to understand. The easiest class I had all semester...and easy A+. Fantastic prof with a great sense of humour too.
Amazing prof! Rather than just teaching us the steps, he teaches us to understand WHY we do the steps which makes stats seem like common sense. 2 exams (50% weighting each). No tricks. Great sense of humour. Straightforward & crystal clear. Definitely take his classes! The only downside is that he doesn't teach Stats II :P
Before I started the class I was soo terrified cuz math is NOT my area @ all!! Like Im really bad. But Ed makes it easy to understand. He's really funny too! I recommend him anyday, especially for ppl who are STATS phobic like me! lol
It is a miracle I got an A+ in stats. In terms of actually teaching, he sucks. BUT his tests are ridiculously easy, which is a great thing for stats- some questions were taken straight out of the textbook. All you need to do is read the text and do the end of chapter questions and guaranteed A+. This man is a god, I only wish he was teaching 2022!
Disorganized..not formal..all over the place..
Rude and not helpful.
Take this course if you do not want to learn how to write a thesis. He almost never held class, so we were basically on our own for the whole term. Although I liked the freedom, I know I didn't learn as much as I would have with another teacher. He is a really nice, approachable man.
Easiest proff iv had yet. Go to class, listen to his VERY basic examples, read the textbook and do the questions. Sounds like its alot of work buts it not. Easy A. I dont know if his rudness was a comedy act but he had me cracking up the way he talked to people.
I've taken Stats, Psych 3010 and 4170 with Ed. The man IS a god. He cares about his students and wants them to do well. Easy Tests, Easy Assignments and he has a great sense of humour. His classes fill up super fast for a reason. Take him and get an A+. Greatest prof @ York.
VERY helpful! Definitely take him for your thesis class- he spread the work throughout the year so you are not overwhelmed at the end. Very approchable...
No trying to screw with your head during exams, no games, no bs. Ed will spoil you; you will forever be shaking your head at all your other profs asking why they can't be more like Ed. I can't believe it, but I attended stats lectures solely for entertainment. He has a great sense of humour.
Im taking Stats with Ed right now during the summer session. All I have to say is he is AMAZING!! Makes everyone comfortable with the material by taking/using different approaches to the problems, and his sense of humour is the best! Definitely recommend him as a prof.
LOVED this prof!! The best decision I ever made was to take 4170 with Ed. He is so understanding, easygoing and fun! The class wasn't too difficult and very organized so that you have enough time to complete everything. Lisa (TA) is also very nice and helpful, but may not reply to emails quickly. Ed is prompt with emails :)Great course overall!
Mr. Halrtect is great professor. His teaching style is excellent. He breaks down the material so everybody can understand, even students who are not mathematically inclined. He is very nice and approachable. His TA, Enzo Verrilli is also very helpful and responds to all inquiries in timely manner. York needs more professors and TA`s like these.
took the psyc 3010 summer class with him - it goes by really fast. he's very helpful and easy going. alot of work is done in this class, marking depends on the TA - take this class if you need credits fast
I was never good at math, and was quite scared for this course...I ended with an A. Ed was an AMAZING prof. very clear, concise and straight the point. Study the textbooks and do the questions and you will do great in this course.
He makes Stats enjoyable and his evaluations are extremely fair. Just study the text thoroughly and do all the assigned chapter problems and you'll do well.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!! If you're going to take STATS, definitely take it with him. I know his classes are always the first to be filled, and there are always line ups for him. I want to take every course I have with him. He's amazing!
got an A+...
Awesome. Makes Stats easy and interesting. Everything makes sense when he explains it. He doesn't focus on the mathematical formulas, rather he teaches you why and how things are done in a common sense sort of way, and then gives you the math equation that represents whatever he explained.
A genuinely nice guy, and very helpful in providing direction. However, his (strict) requirement that students work in groups for data collection causes a ton of unnecessary stress. Avoid his class if you prefer to work alone. Classes are not held often, but those that are held are very helpful. Sometimes slow to respond to e-mail.
I took this class with professor Check during the year and dropped it after the first midterm because i didnt know anything. Taking this now in the summer with Ed and just got an 89 on my midterm, in a class that goes quadruple the pace..TAKE THIS WITH ED HE IS HEAVEN SENT
Very good teaching style, however he only has 2 exams both worth 50%, which is really hard for people who are learning this the first time. I think he needs to add in a couple of mini quizes worth 10-15% TO HELP average your mark a bit....rather than a pass or fail. Some try really hard and still fail.
Most amazing prof ever!!! I wish all profs understood their material inside and out like he does. I would gladly take any course with him again.
He is a great prof, he is willing to help his students and he uses realistic examples to help students understand better. I suck at math and somehow pulled off an A. dont take stats with any other prof!!!!
he is the best prof ever! if your weak at math then he is best prof for u. He is easy and very good at teaching.
most understanding prof you will ever have! He cares about the success of his students and tries to introduce concepts on a very simple level for understanding and them builds on that to more complicated things. I wish he taught stats 2!
Excellent teacher, so clear! Struggled with math in high school, got a 97 with him! Actually READ the textbook and do the practice otherwise you won't do well. His tests are very fair if you've actually tried to study for the exam.
I was terrifed to take stats as I failed in highschool! But Ed taught so well, I got an 85% in his class! I you attend lecture and actually just listen, guaranteed you will get a b or higher. He explains it so well. I use his tricks in my Stats 2 class now! If you need stats, take it with Ed. You will not regret it.
The most interesting and entertaining prof ever.
Literally the best professor at York. He was amazing especially for such a hard class. If you actually study, you can get an A. I didn't study that much and I got a B...but I could definitely have tried harder. You will not regret taking a class with Ed. He's the best.
Great personality, makes stats more interesting than it actually is. Explainations are crystal clear. He recommends that you don't take stats in summer. Final exam was harder than midterm. Go to class first, then do readings(that's what he recommends)Going to class & textbook is beneficial. Aplia ($90) is optional, I think Aplia has online textbook
I looove this professor. He takes the anxiety out of statistics. I went into stats terrified because I'm not a math person and I need an A in the course for grad school. TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM. THE BEST! If he was only 20 years younger.......
awsome prof. Should do stand up comedy! Really great at explaining material in an understandable way.
Outstanding professor! Never a dull moment in his class. He's fun and sarcastic but above all he was an amazing teacher. Gave very clear and thorough explanations of the concepts with many different examples. His TA's are useless but he is always willing to help you with concepts you don't understand. Made stats fun interesting and easy!
Amazing Professor!! Explains concepts really well, uses very good text book. If u want to get good grade in this course--do all the problems at the back of the chapter and go to PASS sessions - they are very helpful.
Hands down one of the best profs I've had. He made one of my most dreaded classes super fun! If you wanna do well, take this course with him.
THE BEST. By far the best teacher I have had. Makes statistics as easy as a bird course. Humorous. The text is super easy to read IF you need to read it. Totally recommended. Not much to say except for YES.
AWESOME prof! When it comes to STATS or THESIS, I CanNOT stress it enough - take these courses with Ed ALWAYS!thesis-20%proposal, 10%SPSS assign-easy, see TA if help needed, awesome TAs! 20% poster! 50% final paper! & of course you do a little study in a group, which is usually fun. Not a hard course at all. TAKE YOUR STATS & THESIS WITH Ed!!!!!!!!
Probably the best prof I have had. He made the most dreaded class a pleasure to attend. Def. go to his lectures bc the lessons are very helpful. He really knows his stuff and is very humble at the same time. He also brightens the class with his awesome sense of humour. I really recommend him. I wish he taught more classes.
There will never be enough good things to say about Ed. Take at least 1 class with him during your time at York. There are few educators who are as gifted and effective as he is.
Really amazing prof. Facilitates a great learning environment. He is a really nice guy and encourages students to participate. He has a great sense of humour and is very clear. I wish I had him for Stats too.
Great professor, one of the best I've had at York. Very helpful, easy to approach and responsive when I emailed him questions. The class was also the most interactive I've taken at York, and I worked a lot on the course because I was so interested. Definitely take his class if you can!
Ed is a fantastic professor. The class is very informative and helpful, he helped everyone and at the same time didn't frighten students. I am happy I didn't take PSYC4000. The advantage of taking 4170 was learning and researching at the same time. Those taking 4000 are independent and rarely see their supervisor. Best experience + I'm motivated
Ed, I refuse to take stats with any other prof. Please teach stats 2! You're the man!
this guy is truly an outstanding prof, he cares about his students and explains concepts with great precision and humour. i recommend you take any class with him. he is also very fair and is extremely passionate about the material. Ed, please teach stats 2!
He knows how to conceptualize the material so that it helps you understand what is happening .. this is crucial to the stats course. Received A+! Trickier final exam than the midterm. Focus on problems that he goes through in class, those will prob be on the SA part of the tests. Very clear and great sense of humour. Times flies in his class!
Dr. Hal is the most helpful, most inspiring professor I have worked with so far. He helps you with your thesis but keep in mind that you have to be genuinely motivated in this course because you are conducting a real research and it can be a very difficult task. Allocate enough time each week and you can succeed.
I felt that I should comment on him since he is such a great teacher and mentor. He is a great dude who inspirits you to become a real scholar out of you when you take thesis with him. This might be a little more demanding that psyc4000 but it's worth it. I encourage students to work with him. I haven't seen him for two year and miss him. fantastic
Overall, doing your thesis can be a daunting process, but he makes sure you are on the right path. An advisor advised me to take 4170, particularly because of Ed, even though it is a bit more work and responsibility than other ones. You will end up looking back and enjoying the result of your hard work. This and creativity were my favorites.
This man is simply PHENOMENAL. I despise math but he made this course so enjoyable. The textbook does a terrific job at explaining concepts. Math requires a ton of practice so if you don't practice the problems and simply memorize the terms, you won't do well since most of the M/C questions involve calculations. GREAT stats course. HIGHLY recommend
He is just so good. He makes stats as easy as humanly possible. Go out of your way to take this course with him.
He is AMAZIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG. Best prof at York and best prof I have ever had. After stat I wished I could take more courses with him. I dont think anyone can teach stats so well and clear. He just makes it extremely easy.
He is awesome! Honestly the best prof at york if you ask me. He teaches in such a good way, and repeats major concepts so you are sure to remember it, plus he's very humorous so thats a bonus, his lectures are never boringgg! Exams are clear and straight forward. If you attend class and do the problems in the textbook, you'll get an A+
Stats is a really tough course, but Ed makes teaches in a way you would have no choice but to understand. He is awesome!
One of the best York U has to offer, sincere, clear cut, respected and easy to get along with. Do the work and you do well, don't and you're just asking for trouble. He sets the stage for you to succeed without a doubt and is clear in his expectations. Salute to this man for his skills in teaching.
This is one of the best profs I ever had. He's very friendly and approachable, inclusive, and clear in teaching his material. He will go over many times until you understand. The only problem was that in the summer term, he only gave two tests (one midterm, one final) each worth 50% I believe. You can't miss class.
Very good professor. Well formulated lessons that filter out unnecessary info. Te the point, well mannered and obviously teaching with some sort of passion. Would highly recommend. Course itself is not too difficult but this professor made it quite the pleasure. If you're reading this professor. Thank you and keep up the great work.
This guy is AMAZING. Absolutely loved his class. I was terrified of taking Statistics, but he turned that fear around for me. Got an A+. LOVE HIM.
Ed is a great prof and he's hilarious! I was nervous about taking stats because math has never been easy for me, but Ed made it so interesting and easy to understand. I kind of wish I took the first half with him too (probably would have done better). There are two exams both worth 50%, but he breaks it up so that the first one is not super heavy.
Great prof, he can translate stats so that even the people who just aren't good at math can understand. Easy to understand his lectures, he's very helpful, hilarious, and kind. One of the best professors at york, even though I didn't do OUTSTANDING in his class, I passed but I can say he's a great professor!
Dr. Hal made this class so easy! Work hard and you'll get an A+ like me :)
Ed clearly explained formulas and made sure the whole class understood before moving on to the next chapter. Used everyday examples and made stats fun! Did not follow the text word for word but if you attend every class and complete every practice problem in each chapter you will do really well.
Ed makes sure the whole class understood before moving on to the next chapter. Did not follow the text word for word in fact he makes it easier to understand-he actually teaches. One of the TA's-throws out tests/misplaces (rewriting or failing is an option) it seems like she doesn't like you, keep away from the weird one, looks nothing like him
Haltrecht is a great prof! He makes stats easy to understand, demonstrating his own tips and short cuts. You can tell he enjoys the subject and only wants the best for his students. I do however find the multiple choice on the exams to be a little difficult as they are wordy, and make you think a lot. But otherwise, I would definitely recommend!
Great prof really helpful answered all questions really good at simplifying and explaining tough concepts
This professor will make you love stats! If this is a mandatory class for you I 10/10 recommend Ed! He is funny and makes the equations easy to understand. Do the practice questions at the end of each chapter in the textbook, it'll really help you do well on the exam. Best prof I've had at York so far.
Ed is a really good prof. He explains things into so much detail that you understand the concept. However, the only thing I disliked about him was the fact that he does not have any slides to show the class and mainly explains concepts just by verbally speaking while occasionally writing on the board. The tests consists of MC and short answers.
Hes great
Amazing
Dr Haltrecht explains concepts well but too fast, doesn't use slides, therefore the book is a must. No tutorials or prep for the tests. The TAs are only available by appointment, not in class. He is sarcastic which is funny, yet intimidating, as he puts you on the spot when you ask questions. Speak loud and clear because he is hard of hearing.
If you hate stats, no worries this prof will really dumb it down for you in a silly way. the first half of this lectures are boring af as he explains the concepts, but after that he moves in a very logical manner, walks you through problems step by step. Can answer all your questions thoroughly. Sometimes hes little mean, but its a joking way!
Go 50s in math throughout highschool. Took statistical methods I and II with professor Haltretch and got As. Excellent textbook and an even better teacher who made me fall in love with stats! Very funny too and has always helped me after class.
I never would of thought I would ever be writing a review on a professor but prof haltrecht is definitely worth it! I had him in the summer for stats 1 and made sure to have him again for stats 2. He explains concepts very well and in the easiest way! Just make sure you go to class because he is all verbal and writes on the chalkboard. Easy A !!!
SO glad i took stats with him, he makes the material so easy to understand and he's open to any questions you have. The midterm was 50% and final was 50% both were very easy to get an A/A+ if you went to the lecture and did ALL of the practise questions of the book
Ed is the best prof I've ever had. He genuinely cares about the success of his students- VERY rare at YorkU. He is kind and approachable. Only thing to worry about is your TA. They mark all of your assignments- some TAs are brutal, others are easy going. But you won't regret taking a class with him!
Very clear and concise, works with students to ensure success. There was a 3.5 month long strike that interrupted students' ability to graduate and he was so accommodating for final year students needing to complete his class versus other professors.
He is an amazing professor and he is caring.
There no mindtap in this course with him which make it difficult to pass the course. I had to drop out because it only based off two test which isnt good. If your not good at math don't take it with him that all i have to say!
Amazing prof. Attendance wasn't mandatory. He posted everything online. he gives good feedback and truly cares about his students. he is very approachable. there are 2 group presentations, 2 mini reports, and 1 big paper. his Ta's are fine too they are very approachable and helpful and clearly tell you what they are looking for in your work.
Dr. Haltrecht is a very nice professor, he posts everything online and not trying to make lifev too hard for students. If you take his class make sure you chose Sarah as your TA, she is AMAZING, helpful, approachable, smart and very knowledgeable. With her you are set for success in the class.
He really doesn't like to help students understand the topics. He teaches what is making sense to him and he doesn't like us asking questions. His style of communication is Minimalist. Exams? you will get questions that are suitable for IQ Test, not usual exam test. Completely dissatisfied is my rating.
He honestly goes off on a tangent a LOT. its super annoying. he allows people to talk, very distracting. i hate when he asks us to talk to the people next to us about irrelevant things like... this isnt grade 2? stop that. he can honestly teach the lectures in 1/3 of the time he takes if he just teaches it straight and not go on about sus example
Honestly, Ed is one of those Profs who really want to see you succeed. He's patient, understanding, funny & supportive! This course went by fast, but he made sure every person in the class was good. Class consists of a research proposal, group paper and indiv paper. If you get a chance, HIGHLY recommend his class. You learn a lot too about research
He is a real person when it comes to the textbook, lets you use any edition and even provides answers for I believe 3 different editions so you don't have to get the new one like other profs make you. His lectures are a little lagging but the tips he gives you in class are worth it because he shows you short cuts or simpler ways to do problems
His lectures are pretty boring and he doesn't say too many necessary stuff... probably don't have to go to class... had 5 assignments over the year (2 group presentations) but all were really easy as long as you followed the rubrics that were posted. And the TA was always there if you needed anything - Ed isn't so good at replying to e-mails
First A+ in my entire 4 years at York. His assignments are super clear but do involve a lot of group work. Each assignment builds up to be the last, longest assignment so it's easy to do even if it seems like a lot. I went to about 3 of his classes, it's not necessary at all! AMAZING!
He is so sweet and teaches everything very thoroughly! He has amazing lecture audio recordings and video slides. He slows down each concept and adds amazing examples that helps you understand the tough material easily. I dropped stats last semester and retaking the course now was such a good idea because I got lucky with this great professor!
Great teacher! Unlike other profs, he's VERY understanding and actually cares for his students. Gives you a reasonable amount of time to complete course work and tests. He has an amazing energy. LOVE HIM!
Very chill professor. Lectures could be boring but his humour helps you get through them. There are group projects, you can pretty much work with the same group for the whole year but it's only mandatory for 2 projects. TAs are very helpful and responsive. Ed & the TAs were very understanding of problems associated with COVID and gave extensions.
Statistics is a challenging course; however, Dr. Haltrecht made the topic as interesting as possible. He was accessible for content questions and posted hilarious lectures that made sense of the jargon. I would definitely recommend taking his classes.
He's really nice and explains the concepts in great detail. I took this during Covid-19 so it was online, but he made everything really easy to follow and genuinely does his best to make it as engaging as possible. Only thing is his tests had a lot of theory questions instead of calculations, so that was kinda annoying. Still easy to get an A+ tho
And PSYC4180! Solid guy, not super amazing but he's a very happy person and that's nice. I sometimes found he was a bit all over the place, but he did make lectures engaging. He also enjoys talking to students and is super friendly. I honestly feel you cant go wrong with Ed!
I love his teaching method. He'd use intuitive examples & then intro the theory after. Meaning, you'd already have a grasp on the concept before learning the concept. Very understanding & kind, I was really glad to take stats w him. Tests are 3hrs, 100Q. Heavy, but more likely to do well if u studied (vs 3 big Qs & 10 mins--more likely to do badly)
I'm taking stats online with Ed and his lectures are really clear and detailed which is nice. He only opens up zoom sessions for questions which can last anywhere from 5-30 mins. He seems really chill but seems to only want you to talk to your TAs and not him lol. maybe that's just how he is through online teaching. Tests are tricky and super long.
He makes statistics fun to learn! He's good at explaining the concept to make it easier to understand!
I was afraid to take statistics because math is not my forte however the course textbook (readings 100% required) and Ed's approach to teaching made the content not only easy to get through but a class I enjoyed taking. Ed always has the best interest of his students in mind and always provides helpful feedback in/out of class. I 100% recommend Ed
Haltrecht is a good choice. My class was online. He makes concepts easy to understand. I barely read the text, mostly used it for the practice questions. Test 3, 4, 5 focus more on how affecting something in the equation (eg sample size) changes the outcome so don't just practice plugging numbers in or you won't do well. Starts easy, gets hard.
Ed is one of the best Professors at York when it comes to math. He has an amazing teaching method and makes learning fun. His lectures are detailed, concise, and provide you with examples which makes it a lot easier to grasp the content.
The prof has clear grading criteria and will upload pre-recorded classes. The pre-recorded classes are clear and informative; use that and textbook questions to prepare the test. Make sure you practice questions for his tests.
Very kind and caring professor! I would definitely take another course with him. His pre-recorded lectures were helpful and engaging. The textbook helped explain some concepts where he lacked. Course does start easy and gets more and more difficult every week. His tests r tricky & difficult but not crazy hard. Had 3 tests- worth 30%, 35%, and 35%.
I took this class feeling nervous by the thought of doing a huge research project but felt at ease once Ed explained everything. He's very nice and knowledgeable. I learned a lot and will definitely benefit from it as I continue on with my degree. I highly recommend this class if you want to learn what it's like to conduct psychological research
He is a really good teacher. The course is properly organized. There is pre-recorded lecture material posted on eClass in advance so you can watch them at your own time. If you have any questions you can go to tutorials every week. The content is not difficult as long as you read the textbook and understand the concepts. 3 tests each 100 mc.
Stats is stats but Ed breathes life into the subject and makes it very practical and understandable. Its unfortunate the textbook wasnt written by him. He offers support and a ton of help during class time. His TA isnt the most helpful but he is amazing! Read the text, do the activities and attend lectures.
i dont have one negative thing to say about Ed. his lectures are prerecorded, straight forward, and correspond pretty well to the textbook. if you do the textbook practice you will understand the course no problem. (Mind tap is not necessary to do well in the course) the TA kind of sucks but thats the only negative to the course
Pros: Ed is a great lecturer. He filters the textbook and presents concepts in a clear, formulaic fashion in the pre-recorded lectures and slideshows. Allows formula sheet for tests. Cons: Some errors on slides, many course exclusion questions on tests, worst is John (TA) that made test errors and marked his section unfairly but Ed was passive.
Ed is my favourite teacher ever! His lectures are amazing. He explains everything so well, actually makes stats interesting, and is such a pleasure to listen to. Many of the students lovingly refer to him as their "Grandpa Ed". This class is definitely harder than PSYC2021 (Stats 1), but if you watch the lectures and do the work, you will do well.
I believe Dr. Haltrecht would be an amazing prof if I actually had to take the class to listen to lectures. He seems very nice and intelligent, yet most of the course relied on his TA Gifty (who is amazing). I found the assignments to be very straightforward, and the rubrics well outlined. Overall, great prof.
there were multiple issues with tests that were given in this course. at one point in the course we were given an entirely wrong test and Ed’s solution was for the entire class to take an additional 3 hour 100 question test. Ed is also inaccessible through email so the only time to address these testing errors that came up was on zoom once a week
He tries to make this course very simple which I really appreciate as math is not a subject I'm good at. I did find that he repeats some questions throughout the tests, which I'm not sure if that is on purpose or on accident. Overall, as a prof he is really good at answering questions and is there when you need him for help.
If you can take a course with professor Haltrecht DO IT! Whether it's stats or whatever, he is the best.
I HATE math. But this professor makes sure to highlight the fact that stats is not all scary math problems. His lectures are amazing and he makes sure to present ideas and formulas in a way for students to understand easily. I wish I could take another course with him. Watch teh lectures- go through text and make notes.
Idk if things have changed since the last rating, but we finished classes in mid-Nov. He was hard to get ahold of and totally stopped responding in Dec. He provides little guidance, no actual lecture content. Nice guy, but horribly disorganized course. The eClass is a mess, 90% is dead-links or outdated/improper examples. Vague rubrics.
Completely disorganized, was changing rubrics constantly and posted conflicting information about assignments. His lectures were useless. When we switched to online classes during the strike we typically had only 5-10 people attend because they offered nothing in terms of value. Never received feedback on any work. Laziest professor at York.
First of all, these past ratings were deceiving. His eclass & lectures lacked structure and assignments were contradictory. Expects you to be an expert on what was hardly taught properly - where's the room to learn and make mistakes? You'd expect to build upon knowledge from PSYC2030, NOPE I hardly learned anything from this class. Good luck.
Professor Haltrecht is da goat.
