I love Dr. Ham, he gives clear lectures and is a SUPER FAIR grader! Everything on the exams is based on the homework and class notes, there is almost nothing unexpected. You do have to study and work hard but getting an A is totally possible, he also has remind101 so you can easily contact him. I HIGHLY recommend, he's the best math prof at pcc!!
Edward is amazing if you are scared because you have no other professor, let me tell your he is worth. He is very dedicated and he said " it is my job as a professor to make sure all my students understand the concept" there were so many student wanting his class until they all were standing his is amazing!!! I also love his office hours hes nice!
Dont listen to these other reviews. He makes tests worth almost all of your grade and homework nothing. He makes the test reviews nothing like what the test is. He says just says do your hw. He also gives no quizzes and almost no group activities so there is no engagement or review. Also dont expect your grade to be updated frequency.
I took his class math 5A calculus and did not pass at pcc but I have a respect for this man , he is respected and respectful and he has amazing teaching style , I would blame myself for the grade I got since I never worked hard , do your hw , attend office hours and ask him questions , you will do GREAT
professor Ham is the best !! I am a student who failed his class and registered for the second time to take him again , he cares about his students and I feel that this man was born to teach math since he makes it fun and understandable , calc is hard , study and attend office hours and do all of your HW and you will be fine
Edward Ham is a great professor! He cares about making sure his students understand the material. Tests are the majority of your grade so there are not a lot of opportunities to raise your grade if you do poorly on tests. He makes himself available to his students though so if you need help, there is always an opportunity to ask him questions.
He is an amazing professor. He masters his materials and has clear grading criteria. If you are struggling, come to his office hours or text him (he uses Remind app which is really helpful). He will reply you instantly. Every exam day, you have to submit the assigned homework. Do them as they help you for the exam. You won't regret taking his class
He is a fair professor and teach the concert very clearly, but he gives a lot of homework, doesn't drop the lowest exam and no extra credit but sometime he will give correction to get back the half of your exam missing points.
Wonderful professor! Really cares about helping his students. Lectures are very clear and thorough. Attend office hours as often as you can to fully comprehend challenging material.
As other people previously mentioned his test are heavy, however, they are direct and easy to solve. His lectures are clear and concise, if you don't understand a certain concept he will explain it thoroughly without skipping ANYTHING. Overall, he is a great professor and truly cares about his students succeeding. Would gladly take him again.
Amazing professor, definitely best math teacher I've had. His way of lecture is different which makes it easier for me to understand it. He cares a lot about his students. They can contact him over text using remind app and goes to math success center mostly. I learned everything in calc5a because of him. He's fair, good grades will need efforts.
I took him for 5A Honors and I won't lie but it was tough and a lot of work. But Prof Ham made the class so fun and exciting that I looked forward to coming every day. I learned so much this semester and recommend everyone to take Prof Ham.
Took Professor Ham for 5A Honors and like the rating below said. It was a tough class due to the conceptual topics that we had to learn on top of the regular material but it was well worth it. Doable if you do the homework he assigns, ask questions and study. He uses remind app so you can ask him for help any time of the day. Truly a great teacher.
Prof Ham was one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. I took him for Honors Calc and yes, IT WAS HARD. Because CALC is hard. But I would not have gotten an A without his help. He uses remind so you can text him whenever you want to ask questions. He really cares about his students and makes the class really fun. You have to put the work in.
Good teacher. Great lectures. Extra credit and test corrections. Hard subject for me, but I'm glad that I managed to pass the class. My advice is don't skip classes and ask questions if you need.
Probably the best teacher I've ever took, this is coming from an average B student. His exams are hard, but the test corrections really will boost your grade. As long as you ask for help and do your homework, you'll succeed in the class. He truly cares about the success of his students and will guide you every step of the way. He uses Remind App!
one of the worst math professors at PCC who just wants to show that he cares about his students while he does not . Tests are SO hard and worth a lot of the class. Does not care if the class average is low . Does not curve the class You have 89% you are at a B and does not care if you put all the effort save your GPA and take another professor
I would not recommend this professor if you are just trying to get over your math pre reqs cuz he takes the subject too seriously . He is okayish but definitely not the greatest as so many say. Hard grader, focuses too much on conceptual stuff . Exams are so HARD and too much HW. you have to be willing to study a lot for his class more than needed
Professor Ham is a super down to earth guy and his energy in class is great. He's very blunt about things is very truthful when it comes to what we need to succeed in his class. There are weekly quizzes, but they've got no tricks to them, mainly just easy homework problems. Do and understand the hw to get a good grade.
His lectures are very clear and he is really organized. I took him for Math 5B over the summer and and thought he was great so signed up for Math 5C in the fall. It was a lot of work (its Calc 3, you should expect that - wait until Ch 16) but hes willing to work with you if you have questions and cares that you do well.
I took him twice, for 5A and 5C got A's for both of his classes. I wouldn't get those grades if his lecture isn't clear. The way he lectures is different than other professor but because of that, you don't have to spend all your time studying by yourself because you don't get the lecture. He's available all the time with his remind app. Hes amazing
Professor Ham is amazing, he's kind and is a fantastic professor. Very clear about expectations and very thorough with his lectures. Make sure to ask for help in and out of class to get an A. One of the best math professors/teachers I've had in my educational career.
Took him for Lin. Alg. Dr. Ham is a pretty laid back guy, also very nice and very approachable. You can ask him anything pretty much any time, he uses the Remind app. Lectures are easy to understand, doesn't collect homework but tests resemble homework problems, weekly quizzes. I never found math very easy but he made it more enjoyable.
Arguably the best professor I ever had. He made Calculus seem daunting at first, but his lectures are really clear. Of course, calculus isn't an easy subject, so if you're just taking the class for an easy pass this ain't it. He makes you work for your grade, but he's there to help you every step of the way. TheresMoreIwould say,but I'm outofspace
One of the best math professors that I have ever had. Gives good feedback, good notes, and good study material. He also uses an app called "Remind" so you can always have a direct way to contact him about questions outside of class if you cant make the office hours. Only downside is lots of homework and hes kinda strict. Would take again 9/10.
I took this class during the corona outbreak and Professor Ham was compassionate about the stress of moving online. Although he assigns a lot of homework and has weekly quizzes, he is extremely inspirational and provides you with all the materials and support you need to succeed. He cares abut his students and will make the class worth your time.
Professor Ham is honestly the best math teacher Ive ever had at PCC! He works very hard in making his lecture material and is constantly wanting to help you succeed. Hes very kind and learns who you are individually, so its more personal :). Weekly homework from the textbook, some are lengthy. great office hours. ask for help and he will!
Great professor and all round good dude. The lectures are clear and he's always available for questions. He grades fast so you always know your status in the class and what you need to work on. Lots of homework, which can be tedious but completely prepares you for the tests. Tough class but he gives you everything you need to succeed. Recommended!
Despite the pandemic, his class still remained enjoyable and manageable. He's very understanding if you talk to him about it, also very chill guy but still wants you to learn. Had 3 honors projects, pretty reasonable, easier than other teachers. tests are pretty fair. Weekly quizzes are fair. I would've given 10 stars if I could. Series are hard.
This guy is without a doubt one of the best professors I have ever had. He cares so much about everyone's learning, he uses some app called remind and responds almost instantly at any time, he has a grading style that is very fair and effective, and he's all around just a great guy. I wish I could take him for all my classes.
Professor Ham is an awesome professor. He cares a lot about his students and always open for questions. I wish I can take him in the future again. There were 2 honors projects and 2 midterms. He gives clear instructions. Chapter 11/series is pretty hard.
Not enough characters to describe how much I love him. Gives us SO many opportunities to make up for our work (even quizzes and sometimes the midterms too). He is so funny, relatable, understanding, and a gem. Busy and cant turn in hw on time? No worries, turn it in when you have time. Midterm clashes w another class? Take it on another day. <3
Professor Ham is an amazing teacher, but his class is no joke. He really wants you to succeed, and is very clear with the work he gives out. He makes himself very available if you need help, but you still have to work very hard to stay on track with the pace of the class.
By far one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. The course material itself was difficult and I think Professor Ham did an amazing job breaking down the content. There are weekly quizzes that review the previous week's lectures, which are pre-recorded so you could watch them on your own time. We were also able to message him through Remind.
For online quizzes/tests, he always uses Proctorio to monitor your screen and your camera. His recorded lectures were always less than 15min and often used other videos on YT as lectures. It was difficult to keep track. Homework is graded by completion, but he requires 90% of it done for credit. No partial credit. You either get an A on HW or an F.
probably the best math professor at pcc. there are 4 exams, he offered test corrections for two of them & put extra credit questions on two of them. his class was very organized & he uses remind so he's easy to contact outside of class. lots of office hours. not an easy A, but good if you plan on taking more math courses. he will teach you. 10/10
Great Professor!
I don't think I have ever had a teacher put in as much effort into teaching as him. Sometimes I would text him at 2am and he would respond almost instantly. It didn't matter to him what the situation was, If you needed help, he was there for you. If there is something interfering with your life and the class, he will listen. He's just amazing!
Not bad but was very difficult to manage. A LOT of workload and be prepared to WORK for your grade because he is a strict grader. Ham gave extra credit but it's just piles of work. The classwork/reviews given don't really help for the exams.
Easily one of the more better math professors at pcc. Is really organized in how he manages his class as well as lectures. Calc II will be difficult anywhere, but you should manage to succeed. Take his class if you actually want to learn. Destroy those integrals.
Math5AH-fall 2020. Very supportive and always there for you to ask questions. There is a lot of homework. Effort A. Math is a difficult subject, but if you do your work, study, pay attention during class, you will get an A. Kind overall grade scale. No curves. Can opt out of final (I did). However, heard Math5B with prof. Ham was super difficult.
Professor Ham is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He provides so much material to help you study for exams and quizzes in the form of online lectures, office hours, instant messages back on remind, practice exams, previous exams with corrections, etc. Also, he has many opportunities to make up points on exams and quizzes.
I really enjoyed the way he setup his math course. He is super organized, is easy to communicate with and he responds to questions all the time using the Remind app. 5B is a hard class but he made it enjoyable. The only bad part was that he left for a month and we had to work with a sub.
he has a very good class setup and is very organized. gives many opportunities for you to make up points on quizzes/exams, and sometimes lets you skip the final if you have an A. not an easy class, but he is very good at teaching. i never found math enjoyable before taking his class.
He is the best professor I have met so far at PCC! Lectures are clear and organized (though there are small mistakes in his lecture sometimes). Do your best and he will help you to succeed in this class. :) Do not expect ECs.
Overall I would give Prof Ham a 2.5. He started the semester by being very understanding and would help with any questions. As the semester went on he gave up on certain students and it was noticeable. There were a set of students that he did not want to deal with anymore, which I thought was unfair. Not as good as people make him out to be.
I took Ham cause of reviews here but I was wrong. I took an online his lectures are videos and some aren't even his own because he didnt know how to explain. He shared with us that he had failed the same math class 2/3 times and became a math teacher. I had As in everything EXCEPT the tests. He doesn't set you up. practice tests were easy- test not
Prof Ham's lecture videos are helpful. Tests were not too hard if you study with material he gives you but some ppl ran out of time, and quizzes were similar to hw. Honors projects were time consuming. He's available on Remind and replies quickly, so it's easy to ask for help. Not much EC. Overall he was a nice person. Takes effort to get an A
Each exam is worth 20% of your grade, there are 4 exams including the Final. The homework isn't too bad, but the exams are your whole grade. If you fail one exam your grade is done for. Regret not dropping the class before the "drop without W" date passed. Also, "flipped classroom" more like teach yourself or go to EVERY Office Hour.
TAKE HIM! BEST CHOICE I HAVE EVER MADE! His lectures are clear, the work load is extremely reasonable, and he always makes himself available to help. He REALLYYYYY wants his students to succeed. Put in the work and an A is definitely in your future. Extra credit is also given thru test corrections & other small things. Best professor @ PCC!
He responds to emails as well as grades fast, provides EC oppor. and is very generous with partial credit on exams. However, he can only be as helpful if you ask for it. It's easy to feel lost in the material, but if you ask for help, YOU WONT REGRET IT. Catch up on your trig beforehand(download his "trig cheat sheet") and UTILIZE OFFICE HOURS
Took his online hybrid class. Met once a week and spent the rest watching the prerecorded lectures and doing HW. Responds to emails super quickly, and hosts multiple office hours a week. Majority of the grade is from the exams. Class is tough but if seek outside resources and help you should be fine. Make sure you review your pre-calc and trig!
His class was extremely difficult for me. I watched videos outside of class, which helped me learn the lesson better, but it didn't help me on the tests. His lessons are straight to the point, but expect the tests to be extremely difficult :((
He used Proctoriu to monitor us while doing the test.360 degree to check your room .your hand workplace face and phone must be shown.Very difficult to take !!! avoid him !
Very restrict professor, you will be required to use protorio that display your face, hands, and workplace, also using the phone to see what you doing in the test. Also, he is a tough grader, you must show all steps, otherwise, you will not points for that.
Unmerciful grader, required your cam 360 to scan your room which is difficult for a laptop user to apply to the requirements. Miss a single step=0
Best math prof at PCC & one of the top 3 profs overall. I took the hybrid course for Spring 22. Prof Ham is super chill, and you can contact him diff ways outside of class. Go to his office hours! There's no "easy" 5B class, and you truly have to put in the work for your grade. Lectures, hw, and review sheets prepare you for the quizzes and exams.
Took his class for spring 2022. It was a hybrid class. His lecture videos are very clear and he is very accessible outside classes. He uses a messaging app called pronto and he usually replies within minutes. As long as you write something, on the paper you will not a zero. Exams take 80% of the grading but he gave chances for make ups.
I am taking his class this Fall 2022. He is an amazing professor and the lectures are clear. One of the best Math professors in PCC by far. The pronto app he uses helps a lot and he is really responsive. Gives a lot of homework but they are manageable. When near exam, he gives a review practice problem sheets. This help a lot for the exam.
I am taking Math 5B with professor Ham right now and his lectures are clear and he's also really funny. As tough as the content is, I'm never bored and I look forward to coming to class. He's really accessible (uses an app called Pronto and he responds quickly) and pretty easy to talk to. Highly recommend taking him.
Professor Ham gives great lectures, and is always there to help students with any questions. He uses pronto and responds to messages quickly. He gives practice tests which help a lot with the actual test. Class is test heavy but if you study well and utilize his assistance, you should do fine in the class.
I have never had a professor who cares as much for his students as Professor Ham does. He connects with his students and does everything in his path to see them succeed. He explains concepts extremely well, and gives additional credit for exams. He is a professor worth adjusting your schedule for just to have him. TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!!!
Prof Ham is a God. Easily one of the best teachers I have ever had... but by no means is he easy. He's a tough but fair grader. If you actually want to learn take him. Be ready to "Grind, Grind, Grind."
Professor Ham's class was difficult without a doubt; calc is always hard. However, his unwavering compassion and dedication to seeing students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom made learning the materials infinity more accessible. If you put effort in, he will do everything in his power to help you excel. Trust me, take his class.
Math 5B itself is a difficult course, but I have to say Professor Ham was amazing! He responds very quickly to questions, but he's definitely a tough grader with the content. He's a really nice person and understanding too. If you're planning to take it over the summer for 6 weeks, be ready to dedicate a lot of time and have assignments everyday!
Professor Ham is without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. He really cares about his students and is an amazing professor. Gives good feedback on what you got wrong on an exam and gives opportunities for extra credit. Homework and classwork help with quizzes and exams. TAKE HIS CLASS! 100% WORTH IT. I hate math but his class was enjoyable.
If you only care about getting an easy A, Prof Ham is not the teacher for you. I appreciated that Prof Ham wanted you to LEARN the material so that you can do well in other math courses. He's pretty easy going and easy to talk to. It's the first time a math class was interesting and I didn't get bored all the time. Won;t regret taking him.
Not just this class, but all the classes he's taught at PCC this semester, half of the people in all of them got their grades with a drop or a W. His coursework is so huge that you can't believe it.If you take his class, you're self-abusing.
Don't recommend to take this professor. The load of homework is insane, you have to find definition for tons of mathematic term plus solving problems. The worse part is he don't teach at all. He expect you to self learn like you're in four year institutions. I'm lucky to drop him in week 2.
Even though I got a 90% on first midterm exam I just couldn't stand his teaching anymore. Every week we were made to write up to 15-20 pages of notes by hand, many Exercises,Quiz,Classworks. I've spent about 1.5 day every weekend to complete them. None of these count towards course grade, you have to get 70% above to take the 3 exams in a semester.
On his first midterm, the highest grade in the class was a 95% and that midterm is worth 30% of your total grade.
26 people dropped the class. what more do i need to say.
difficult class, but I learn a lot in this class
I learned a lot, but this class is really stressing for me. I usually have to study for 4 days before an exam to do good on it. I'm thankful that he gave about 5% extra credit, which allowed me to get an A in the class. I really wish he could post answer keys to all of the classwork problems. Class is 100% exam grades and exams are difficullt.
If you hate yourself just take it.
Highly recommend Prof. Ham for those who are taking the class to learn (not just for an easy A). He is very easy to reach, offers interactive and in-depth explanations during AND outside of class times, and an overall great educator. Don't be afraid to reach out and you'll do fine in his class.
He has unlikeable online communication skills and sounds unempathetic. Online lectures cover a minimal amount of material, you have to self-learn a lot to complete the work. There is an unnecessary amount of writing on the exams, requiring full paragraphs to explain method choices. He is also picky about the work you show when solving problems.
Great professor! Canvas was well-organized, making navigation easy. Class was tough due to winter and content, but Prof Ham made it manageable and sets you up for success. Lectures and feedback were excellent. He's responsive on Pronto for help. Lots of hw, but it's essential prep for tests. Be ready to dedicate a lot of time for hw/study!
This class was a lot of work, it was more difficult than any of my classes taken so far. He does give some curve to the grade, and he is a nice guy, but his exams and quizzes were based on proofs. I recommend this class if you do enjoy and want to learn, but if you hate proofs and the heavy workload for this class, avoid.
Loved Professor Ham. 5B Winter course (6 weeks) was extremely challenging but I appreciated his style. Strict teacher but a caring one. Gave great feedback and made himself readily available. Don't expect to pass without working hard. The rigor of the class and amount of homework prepared me extremely well for the final exam.
As long as you pay attention and do your work on time you are fine. 4 medium-difficulty exams in total, the final was easier than the 4 exams. The lectures were clear and Prof. Ham's handwriting is very legible. Take him if you want a solid understanding of Math 5B.
Lectures are funny and interesting, and his Canvas is very organized and has a lot of resources. He's lenient with late work, but don't let it pile up. He might give extra credit for being on time & turning HW in on time. Tests sometimes have silly EC questions asking for the names of his kids, etc., so pay attention. Easily reached on Pronto.
I took this class with CAS. Yes this class is hard but you will learn a lot. Ham knows a lot about math but when it comes to the physics part of the class it's like he is reading from a script and he can't elaborate on it. Your effort in the class will be taken into account if you are on the edge of a grade. I will be taking math 10 with this prof.
Great man. Great mentor. Spoiler: I didn't pass his class, but hey, that's why we're allowed to retake them, right? I gave up in the last three weeks. But this isn't about me. Professor Ham is awesome if you actually care about your education. He is hilarious and super cool. Don't get mad, get better, your CAS instructors and tutors care about you.
He teaches this class like an upper div coarse so it was a step up from his calc classes. Just show up everyday and put in the work. If you have a problem talk to him and he will work with you. This is the 3rd and sadly final class I have taken with this prof so I not sure what else this review needs. You will not find a better Prof than Ham.
He's Great overall. Day in his class was taking notes where he explained everything and color coded each step so you knew exactly what he was doing. There were some whiteboard work in groups that actually helped. A good amount of homework but trust me you need to do it. I did the work and for the first time got an A in a math course:) Recommend!!!
He's the best professor I have ever had. He taught Math 010 in a way that made the subject genuinely interesting and fun. He taught the class half proof/concept based, like an upper division course, and although it was challenging, I learned a TON. He is such a kind, caring professor and always willing to help and offer advice. Thank you Prof Ham!
He is one of the best professors I met at PCC. In his class, I learned how to write math proofs. Complicated concepts became very clear through his explanations. I highly recommend him. Even though the course is a bit hard, if you stick with it, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Dude is literally the goat and will always work with you. I'd spent most of my time at school talking to him and it made the math so easy.
