Knows his history.... great teacher! you will definately learn a lot. But you need to work for your grade but he is pretty fair when it comes to grading.
Great teacher! He made my 3 hour history class seem a lot shorter. He really knows and is passionate about history. Assigns a lot of essays but gave fair warning of that the first day of class. They're not too hard, anyway. Very willing to help. cool guy.
The made the 3 hours class so excited that I wish it would have been more hours. He writes a lot on the blackboard, so just copy the notes, do your homework and you'll be find. I would strongely recommed this exciting teacher.
I recommend Professor Heupler to anyone who is taking history. He is concise with what he expects from everybody, teaches you what you need for the test, and grades fairly. He is also willing to help students, and keeps his class free of political bias.
This was the easiest class that I have ever taken at pcc (easier than health ed i think). The worst grade that i got was 100%. Heupler prepares you well for the tests and he barely refrains from telling you the answers. If you want to learn something and get a good grade, this is your class.
Over winter session, no essays. Only weekly tests which are open note. Funny guy... makes history pretty damn interesting.
Good lecturer. He makes it interesting as hell. Quizes weekly that are open note.No homework. Nice guy overall.Pay attention in lecture & you will get an easy A.
Not as easy as they said! If you are not good at history, I can't get A even though it's open notes exams.
He's a awesome teacher. The tests are pretty easy, as long as you take notes! I'm a history major, and this history class has to be the BEST one I've ever taken. He makes it really interesting and you want to learn more. Plus he's got a great smile!
His ability to instuct is as great. He is the type of teacher you want if you actually are interested in the subject matter. He has great clarity, validity & overall a complete teacher. His focus is phenominal and will help you understand the course or history.
Great teacher! All quizes are open note, test are open note/book. He writes all the notes you need on the board. Just copy the notes, listen to the lecture, read/skim the book.
His lectures are interesting! Take good notes because they will come in handy come exam. He made history one big interesting story. If you put sincere effort you will get a good grade. THE BEST HISTORY CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN!
His class makes me sleepy (very boring). you'll have a lot of essays to write. Tests are open notes, midterm is open book. not very easy overall
He grades essays harshly......
this guy is great. I love him to death. No teacher has been more helpful and more fun than this guy. He can be boring, but if you talk and the class talks as well, the class i fun. He never gets flustered or anything, he's direct, smart, and knows his material. Take him. Lots of essays, but easy
This is the Teacher to take if you don't wanna study history. You'll get at least a "B" (If you at least TRY!!!), but in order to get an "A" you have 2 read the book and undertands the materials. He's a bit boring but hey, Open note tests. Overall a pretty ez class.
Professor Heupler lectures A LOT but his exams are based in his lectures and notes. Exams are all open note, so take godo notes. This class is an easy A if you want it.
Thank goodness that he doesn't teach English... or else everyone's gonna fail. Good teacher, easy tests and all. But when it comes to essays...
he is an easy teacher, but he grades hard on essay's. don't need to get too technical in essay's just alot of analzying and good info.
Nice professor one of the best, hes fun, interesting and likes what he does.
nice teacher and is very willing to help you. he does however grade hard on his essays.
Really knows his history. Essays due pretty much every other week. Grades harder on essays than my Eng 1C teacher. But quizzes and midterm open note ... very easy. Also make up quiz and can rewrite papers.
Very easy midterm and tests (all open note). Would be an easy class but essays every other week and he grades them harder than my english teacher. Can make up essays.
Easy Easy Easy. One of the must take profs at PCC.
soo easy, and at the same time so educational. lectures are clear, and he covers all info in quizzes and exams. i dont think a history class could be anymore clear or structured. take him if you can! you wont regret it!
Personable but completely disoganized. Comes across with a pretense of structure and a well laid out syllabus but you'll never get your papers back and he'll hold up your grades being the last to report. Knowledgeable on the subject material and wont pull and suprises. Generally recommended
Nice guy. He is very organized, he lectures all class period but you won't fall asleep. Take good notes he gives small quizzes at the end of every class period, but it's open notes so it's no big deal all his tests are open notes. The only things that are hard are his essays, he is harsh. He ripped apart my essays but still got an A in the class.
I really loved Heupler's class. He taught an amazing amount of class loads at all different colleges but still had the energy to be enthusiastic during all of the 4-hour class. Hw papers are frequent, and there's quiz after every class lecture, but his lectures give you all the answers to the quiz beforehand. Very accomodating and a great teacher.
Prof. H is a great teacher! He gives a reasonable work load. His writing assignments can be rewritten and re-graded. Take good notes; he answers 99% of quiz, midterm and final questions.
Prof Heupler is passionate about history. Put some thought into the assignments and take good notes and you'll be fine. Prior comments are pretty accurate. Good Luck!
HE IS AN EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!!
He is a very good teacher. The comments about his lecture and quiz are all correct, but I have to say that he is not that harsh on essay. As long as you put thoughts into the essays, you will do great. Just organize it well and put a lot of information.
best teacher that I have experienced at pcc so far.
He's a great teacher. He's very helpful and approachable. Makes class interesting. Assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. are reasonable & not difficult if you take good notes.
Great professor!! Notes and Text allowed for midterm and finals. Lecture very interesting and great sense of humor. Highly recommended.
Awesome Professor! Very helpful. The quizzes are simple..all open note. Be sure you take his notes down!! He makes history interesting and not at all boring. I hate to admit this...but this class was fun! I couldn't wait to go to class. I would definetely take him again and I highly recommend you take his class. You won't regret it!
Great class. Almost no need for the textbook. Take good notes as test are open notes and final is both open notes and open book. Had 1 book report(easy). Highly recommended!!!
Excellent!!!
like him
super easy. weekly quizzes but open notes. every now and then we could take quiz home. i think i read the book only wen i was taking test. cool teacher. was never bored. easy B without trying
Hot!Hot!Hot!Notes!Notes!Notes! He knows everything about history. I like him!
He plays favorites like no other teacher ever. He announces participation counts for 50 pts but then its basically impossible to get a word in edgewise at the end of class as he is attacked by every annoying kid there...
EW why'd he get a pepper. I suggest u read the ch. b4 class. b/c he Jumps around when he talks. u get to use notes on tests, & the final its open book/notes. Grades really wack for the final paper, if he likes u then u get a +, if not don't bother asking him why b/c he's a professor that will not admit he's wrong. He's nice, but just annoying.
He's a great professor. He knows plenty about history i love history now. quizzes and tests are open notes...lectures and notes...only two papers. He's a great professor you can't go wrong with him
If you are history major and understand history quite well take him. Most of his lecture is not on the text but base on his teaching experience. Outline does not match the text and it is very confusing. I don't know where to start to study be quite honest and I am so lost. He does not correspond well to students email and have a lot of excuse.
his class is not easy. it's hard for me to understand his notes! overall, i won't take his class again
honestly, i have to admit i HATEE history! I have never been able to pass a history class! Heupler is the best! open note and book midterm and final, 2 essay 5 page at home, quiz's in class or take home with open notes and book! easiest class ever! he does not even care about participation! thankss professor heupler your the bestttt!!!
He is very disorganized.First he messed up the class roster,he accepted all the students who were trting to add.5-10 students were forced to standup or sit on the floor for the 1st 3 weeks of class. Some of his questions are tricky but the best thing about this class is he lets you use your notes on tests. He is very strict on grading your essays.
He is very helpful. Keep going and dont drop the class, you will learn a lot. He grades hard on the paper but overall the class is easy!!recommended even for ESL students.
He is great! Nice prof! Not really hard. Open notes for all of the tests! Got B without trying much. All you have to do is go to class and take the notes! Almost everything for the tests can be find on his notes! RECOMMENDED!
If you get anything lower than a B, you didn't try. He is pretty simple, BUT only if you show up everyday so you can get all the notes and listen to what he says. The book will only confuse you, trust me. It's all about HIS info. All the negatives about him are not worth mentioning. I Definitely recommend him.
TAKE HIM!!!! one of my fav prof in pcc !
man.. although many people say he is a good prof, but i dont think so... You won't learn anything in his class. Lecture is boring. he is so easy. His class is recommended for non-history major to take. for those history major , take another
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR ESL STUDENTS. QUIZ IS NOT VERY HARD, BUT ESSAY IS EXTREMELY HARD. ALSO, HE IS NOT ORGANIZED. HE IS NOT A CARING PERSON. I FAILED WITH HIM.
Heupler is a great professor. He makes history come alive! Not a hard A, but you have to attend and take lots of notes. Open note quizzess, midterm & final! Seriously! Only two reports the entire class! This class and any other class he teaches is worth it. Trust me! Fun class!
i passed his class anyway. if you you work very hard, and putting a lot time on reading textbook. every words!you must get good grade!i indeed see a lot of guys got A.however, he is very strict on your peper.pop quiz and in class essay also happen.that is not fun
If u want an A, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. 1 out of 5 people I know, only 1 get A. I saw people earn 20 out of 40 on essays. He grades way harder than my english prof.Although he offers rewirte, he at most gives 3 pts! Quizzes are average, but if u want an A, that will be hard becuz there's only 10 ques. I end up 3% away from an A.
Recommended for History Majors. Professor knows his stuff. Hard A, easy B class. Weekly quizzes. Accumulative final. Tough on essays. It's possible to pass the class with just notes, but it better be pretty awesome note-taking. What I learned in is from class: "History = Memorization."
Best prof. ever! Heupler makes history come alive! He makes it so interesting. I actually looked forward to coming to class! Hes not that hard. just copy his notes during class. He tells his lecture like story format so he keeps your attention! All quizzes and final are open notes/open book! Take his class, you won't regret it! Trust me!
This is a pretty easy class as long as you go to each class and copy his notes. He writes everything you need to know on the board. It's important to have the book because the tests are open note/book, and the quizzes are open note. I got a bit bored sometimes, but he knows his stuff, and it's an easy A, but the quiz questions CAN be tricky!
Took Heupler twice because he was so easy. To get an A, you have to put the effort. He is a really stickler grader when it comes to papers, exams are open book (bring book & take notes on ALL lectures), and he provides extra credit. One of the best professors at PCC who leaves you with loads of historical information and of course an A.
He is an outstanding teacher. All his quizes and tests are open notes/book. The lectures he gives are usually what's on the quiz. Exams are a little bit trickier because it's from both notes and book, so you would have to shuffle around for answers. He grades his essays a bit tough but it's manageable. Overall, he's easy-going and helpful!
This class was very similar to high school US history class. He lectures off of the text book and writes it on the board for everyone to see. He is very clear and he knows what he is talking about. Tests, quizes, finals are open notes. But he grades essays really hard.
Nice person, and very good teacher. Very helpful and easy to understand. I highly recommend to take history class with prof. Heupler.
He knows a lot about history from off the top of his head. The quizes are online and the midterm and final are open book which s great. He's very nice and understanding.I would take him again.
He's an amazing teacher and very understanding. Homework is just quizzes done online and he usually writes down important notes on the board. He sometimes doesn't respond to e-mails though so if you have a question, ask in person. His writing is also kind of hard to read. Love this class!
very easy going guy, also works at mt. sierra. his office hours are very helpful especially for the 8 page term paper he assigned, his lectures are fun, there is group work and the pretest quizzes are online, great learning enviorment
loved his class! hardly read but learned sooo much! open book exams :) exams are made up of class handouts! highly recommend! plus its never boring
Professor Heupler is clear, passionate about the subject and gives a lot of opportunities. I would take another History class if he was teaching. Open book, open notes, open ipad lol.
Very good professor! He is top teach in my school! His lecturers are great and clear!
Professor Heupler is amazing. He's extremely articulated and is incredibly intelligent. He puts a lot of energy in his lectures and somehow manages to make history fun! He's a bit strict on grading, especially on writing assignments. Quizzes are online (15 mc questions). Exams are open notes/electronics! Yes, that means you can bring your laptop!
Heupler is definitely not an easy A. I took him during the 6 week summer session, so maybe that's why I struggled in this class. You have to work hard for an A, but it is possible!
He can be quite boring but I have had harder professors. He is super nice and gives most assignments online! even the final was online! there is no reason you should not pass this class. He is so nice and willing to let you do over many assignments.
The instructor cares about the students. Towards the end, we a little bit behind schedule. Instead of forcing students to learn the remaining material independently, the instructor created an online final exam so he can have time to cover all the material on the final. Certainly one of the better history teachers at PCC.
Heupler does a great job explaining history. He explains things fluidly and chronologically without referencing the book. He writes an outline of his lecture on the board while talking. All quizzes (midterm+final) are online. Read the book and do the assignments and quizzes and you will do well.
I took this class during summer session and it was loads of work! Open book exams but he's a strict grader when it comes to the discussions and writing assignments. The worst thing is that he's a slow grader; During week 4/6 he was barely grading assignments from week 1, which made it too late to get feedback for the already submitted assignments
Midterm and final are online. Two essay questions. Online quizzes for each chapter and online discussions. Six writing assignments. Sounds easy but he grades difficult. He looks for particular things. He takes forever to grade assignments. One group project.
At first I like his lectures. He is eloquent and knows his stuff. Everything is online even the midterm and final which I didn't mind since they were both easy A's. The problem though was that he took till maybe two weeks ago to finish our grading. The semester had ended and I was so unsure of what my grade would be. That really bothered me.
Professor H is very passionate about history, but this is something that makes him kind of heavily opinionated. He's not really open to hearing different opinions on what he is teaching which kind of bothers me. But all his testsquizzes are online, including the midterm and final, so those really helped my grade!
Awful, just awful. I have no idea how this professor has so many decent reviews. I have never been more frustrated with a professor. Sure, he knows history, but he is not willing give you the tools to do well. He grades without explaining what he expects. He wants you to write novels for simple questions, and doesn't grade anything on time.
I have him for Summer. Heupler is an okay Professor, he does know his history. But his lectures are really long. He does online tests, including the final, but when it comes to other assignments. He grades extremely hard, there would be instances where you can get half credit or even 0's. But he allowed us to resubmit it. You can get an "A"
Easy grader
Helper's very knowledgeable about almost every aspect of history, which is both a blessing and a curse: his lectures get very tangential. He takes a while to grade things, which is also both good and bad: you never know where your grade stands, but there's a bit of leeway in turning in assignments on time. He knows his stuff, but READ THE BOOK!
Professor Heupler is a very knowledgeable Professor. He gives clear cut lectures and you know exactly what your studying for. You'll have the prompt for your writing portions on both midterm and final. Be aware for my class he did most of the grading during the last week of the semester. We did fall behind a chapter due to student questions.
Heupler is a good professor. Very passionate about history. All his work is online. There are assignments, several small quizzes, & 3 papers. Downfall he takes a while to grade your work. I didn't know what my grade was till he had to turn in grades. I would recommend.
Excellent lecturer, very clear and concise. Writes an outline of the lecture on the board. Allows notes for mid-term and final (both online). All homework and quizzes are online. Expect 2-3 assignments a week, four standard essays throughout semester. Did majority of the grading after the semester ended.
11/10 Tough grader for anything written.
Super vague about questions for written assignments and essay questions. He'll ask for one simple thing but is actually expecting the full shebang. Ie. Who's the first president? George Washington right? Wrong, 2/10. You didn't explain how he got into presidency, what he did and what is significance was. Even though he doesnt ask it, he wants it.
The most inspirational History professor I've ever had in my entire life. If you like to get moved without watching a movie, take his class. I enjoyed his lectures so much I ended up taking two classes with him. If I weren't done with community college I'd still be sitting in his class. Great in communication. Amazing lecturer. With him you thrive!
Don't get surprised when your jaw drops to the floor. He's an amazing lecturer with having a degree in LAW! One of a kind!!!
He's great at lecturing and all the tests are online, but he's way too tough when it comes to written assignments. Also, don't expect to ever get out of class on time.
Professor Heupler is a really smart guy; he knows his stuff. He will try to trick you on test questions, so really pay attention. The tests are all online and open note so there really isn't an excuse to fail one. He is a really harsh essay grader, but he will let you make it up for a better grade (which is usually equally as harsh).
His lectures are entertaining. He gets up and engages the entire time! worth every penny you will pay for this class. tips: On written assignments go ABOVE and BEYOND. Quizzes are online and are fairly easy... use your notes! the answers will be there. ATTEND TO CLASS, it will boost your grade nicely... I wont lie... tough grader but worth it
Professor Heupler was a funny and kind of awkward teacher, our class was large so there wasn't much opportunity to talk or really do anything but listen. Easy homework and EVERYTHING IS ONLINE, that means tests and quizzes, even the homework. As long as you know how to google answers you should be fine. The quizzes can sometimes be a little tricky.
Prof. is very passionate of the subject. Entertaining at times. Lectures were pretty heavy, but pay attention and you should be fine. Prof. is a tough grader! His homework asks for a simple summary, but you have to write more than just a summary for a average grade. Attendance will help your grade. He gives extra credit opportunities which helps.
There are some things I did not like about his class. His lectures are heavy and sleep inducing. The quizzes are online, about 12 of them. The final and midterms are online too, 70 - 80 multiple choice. And finally 12 HW assignments online. Other than that he's easy to pass. Use google for the tests. I barely went to class and I still passed.
One of the best History professors at Pasadena! Although his class can get pretty boring sometimes, he tries his best to make it entertaining. I would highly recommend him. I hardly went to class and I was still able to pass with a good grade.
Professor Heupler is an amazing professor, I see the passion in history in this prof. Everything is online, just read your notes, especially lecture ones! the answers are there! His quizzes can be a little tricky especially the T or F , but again read your notes. Gives extra credit :) He's AMAZING! Take him!
GREAT professor! Caring towards his students! He does makes you earn your grade but for those struggling students he will try any way possible for you to bring your grade up. He makes his lectures interesting since he has a true passion for history and he's super funny. TAKE HIS CLASS. there is reading but nothing that YOU can't do!!
He genuinely seems like he cares about his job and his students. I took his 1A class in the Winter Session which is around a month and a half so keep that in mind. His class was pretty much 100% lectures with powerpoints that are uploaded onto Canvas. He is a good speaker, knows how to tell an interesting story, and is very funny.
He is very smart and knowledgable. His lecture is always interesting, and you will learn a lot from him. However, he should teach English instead of history . In the writing assignment, he does not care if you can answer what he asks for. You won't get full credit, if you cannot write a perfect paper. Discussion, paper and quiz due every week.
I suggest you do not take any of his history classes.
He is not clear on what he wants, he will ask a question but not specifie exactly what he wants. He forgets to put up discussion questions, quizzes, and homework assignments. His quizzes have had wrong answers, he does correct them but it's quite annoying. He shouldn't be a full time history instructor until he gets his class assignments together!
He gives a lot of homework, a paper and a discussion question and a quiz every week . Make sure to write good notes in class if you want to get an A cause quizzes are pretty much from the lectures he gives in class. It's not a easy A class
Professor Heupler is a smart guy and LOVES history. I learned a lot from his class. Every week there is an assignment, discussion, and quiz due, which makes his class a heavy work load. However ALL the quizzes, the midterm, and the final are open note/open book. Simply put in the work and you will succeed in Professor Huepler's class.
Heupler loves to lecture. He uses a powerpoint and goes from there. I took the summer class and everything was done through Canvas. Weekly writing assignments and quizzes on the previous week's material. Slightly tough grader but you'll get used to it. Everything is open-book with access to the web. Attendance counts toward participation grade.
Heupler is a great person and professor! Super jolly and easygoing. Obviously the class is western perspective (bleh....) but he still worked in a lot of eliminating details they just don't teach you in high school! He's funny, passionate about history, and he is so willing to help anyone out! Test/reading heavy but totally worth it! : )
Grading was spontaneous which drove me crazy, but I figured he's just a busy human as the rest of us. Online tests were frustrating, I found myself constantly emailing him about test questions that were ambiguous. Overall I liked his lectures a lot, he's a silly guy that likes his history.
I had him for an early morning class and yes the lectures would be really long and sometimes boring, but honestly he keeps you engaged. I recommend doing the homework and quizzes early! And pay close attention to the videos because they help a lot and show up on quizzes!
Respect and caring professor, get ready for a test every week and be prepared to read a lot. :P
Not gonna lie, if you are wanting to actually learn history then you should definitely take him. The way he lectures proves he is really passionate about what he teaches. As far as quizzes and test, you need to know the book and his lectures forwards and backwards if you want to pass. Personally, it was difficult if I didn't study so study!
Assignments based on textbook which I used an older version just fine cause it was free. Test based on slides he posts. Fair grader I'd say because he actually grades it and tells you what you did which is the best thing because so many professors just stamp a random grade IMO. He's also kinda funny. Attendance is 10%.
This class is HORRIBLE! He lectures the entire class till the last minute. Hes give either a hw assignment or a quiz every week. The HW is graded horrible & his responses to your answers have nothing to do with what the question was, but yet we get docked points. EVERY test has multiple trick questions, he will add extra letters to names, etc.
All of his classes consists of lectures. Really tough grader on the HW, don't miss anything or he'll remove points. 5-6 Take home tests. Class is really boring and long. Hes a nice guy.
One of my favorite professors I've ever had. Fun an interesting lectures, plus you can tell he extremely well versed in the subject. He remembers specifics of historical events off the top of his head, and can relate just about everything into more accessible references. I hope to take more classes from him in the future!
Took his class during the winter. Expect a lecture from the start of class to the end. He gives short writing assignments, and tests online. The writing assignments were relatively straightforward (and he lets you re-do them if he docks points), however his tests were surprisingly challenging. Even with notes he leaves some tricky questions in.
His class is nothing but him talking at you the entire class period and he doesn't clarify on many of the things he mentions. You are only graded on tests and the writing assignments. He always posts the online tests late and the questions on it are very nit-picky. He expects you to know every detail. He grades the writing assignments very harshly.
Honestly this has been my least favorite class i have took. First of all, this professor has lack of communication with his students. Second, he is an extremely tough grader on essays, he seems to grade the papers as if this was an english class. Lastly, all of his really long lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Don't recommend taking.
I am a straight A & B student and this professor will mess up my GPA with a C or lower. He expects you to remember every single detail he says during class, the tests are not based mainly on the power point notes and he refuses to give you feedback in writing assignments other than its wrong. He uses his personal life as an excuse for late grading
Everything is online. You dont have to show up to class, just ask your friends sign up for you. If you want to pass with a B, it's a very easy class. However, he grades extremely hard on writing essays, which is worth 10% of the total grade. I would say not an easy A class but very easy to get B
Professor Heupler is a very respectful and nice professor. However the class have some flaws. His grades are mostly on quizzes and 2 essays. He grades strictly on grammar in essays. It is not an easy A class. More like an easy B or C if you do good on quizzes/ essays. Quiz answers are hard to find online they are customize to fit his lectures.
TAKES A WHOLE SEMESTER TO GRADE ONE ESSAY WHICH MEANS THERES NO TIME FOR U TO REDO IT IF U GET A LOW GRADE... HES PROB THE WORST PROFESSOR HERE IN PCC.. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
This class consists of lectures. The lectures do get boring, but its a good class to take if you want to pass. All of the tests are online so you can use your notes or book.
DO NOT TAKE SAVE YOURSELF! He is very knowledgable BUT expects you to know every single detail that happened. Tries to trick you on tests and only cares if you can understand his wording of the question and the specific thing he said in class not if you actually know the info. Also very rude and harsh with hw comments really disliked my experience
This class consisted of lectures/PowerPoint notes, it gets pretty boring. Not many people bothered to show up. His assignments are pretty easy but he is a tough grader, his comments on assignments can be harsh and rude. All tests/quizzes are online, theyre fairly easy just read textbook and notes and you should be fine!
He is knowledge; his lecture is good. I can feel that he is passionate when he is speaking. Only problem is the true/false questions are tricky. I also like U.S history more after his lecture. English is my second language. I wish I can be good as a native one. So I can understand more his lecture. I tried my best as I can, but I only get C . Gl^o^
Professor Heupler is all around terrible. He lacks the preparation to see his students succeed. I was being graded poorly on assignments that had no rubric. It was only later in the semester (halfway) that he gives an example assignment on how an ideal should look like. He also purposefully tries to stray you away from the correct answer on tests.
This dude sucks , his class is always boring , hes very rude and not helpful at all and he always tries to trick you on quizs. He is always late on publishing assignments and doesnt give you examples on how he wants things done until half way through the semester. Avoid this guy at all costs
Hes extremely rude when responding to your assignments; it feels like he wants you to feel like an idiot. He uses his personal life as an excuse to upload exams and content the last minute. Worst professor I ever had, I dont recommend him at all. His work isnt as hard, but constantly using life excuses such as taxes is not very professional.
I think Heupler knows a lot about what he is teaching but is really bad about grading & uploading exams late. He was very understanding of COVID by not having super specific deadlines, but his assignments were very harshly graded without a clear rubric.
Pros: -Nice, respectful, not-sexist -Knows a lot about history. Cons: -Can't teach. Lectures are confusing, boring, and repetitive. -Awkward man. Prepare to cringe. -Extremely harsh grader. Will mark you down if you didn't include that one detail. -Every assignment is an essay. -He complains a lot about students. Avoid!
This class is frustrating because I would legitimately like to learn this material and I can't help feeling he doesn't take it seriously. He shows up late to every zoom class and then puts on a YouTube video and goes to feed his cats or whatever. I kind of feel cheated, could've gotten this stuff for free on my own. No give-and-take discussions.
I took HIST 07A online last spring. All his test are multiple choice which is nice but the questions are very specific and tricky at times. There are writing assignments/discussions due every week. He also gives extra credit which was super helpful. The only bad thing was he took the entire semester to grade all the assignments.
Do not take this guy. Rude!!! He is a bit awkward. Expects you to know every little thing based off youtube videos. Grades everything last minute. Super unprofessional, look for someone else.
Professor Heulper clearly has great knowledge of History but does not lecture very well. Since this was an online class he recorded the lectures, but tended to make a lot of mistakes and ramble on about irrelevant information. He is extremely hard at grading his papers and discussions which make up most of the class. He did offer extra credit.
Professor is very caring and pours effort into his explanation. Very passionate about the course and is understanding when students need a better explanation. A down side is that the professor is very hard to get in contact with and communication between the professor and student is very bad. I also like to note he grades very late, like very late.
The professor knows what he is doing but is very hard to reach/contact. I took his asynchronous course and it was a pain to adjust my grade on a test because I had chosen the correct answer but was labeled incorrect
Passionate about history, unorganized with lecturing. Did not give clear grading criteria for assignments and unclear feedback. So sometimes I either got full points or deducted points for same amount + quality of work lol, but he lets you redo for full credit. Some questions on tests were unclear or had wrong answers. Go to class for lecture notes
Lectures are funny, passionate, & engaging. Opportunities for extra credit and rewrites. Inconsistent/unclear grading criteria is frustrating but you'll do ok if you stay on top of it. Logic on exam questions is sometimes unintentionally subjective. Correct answers will sometimes be marked incorrect so double-check and come back with receipts.
He does not reply to his emails, if you missed class due to any reason, emailing him does not work. Also, this class is hybrid which means he uploads a lot of homework for you to do and work at home.
A lot of reading, his lectures were great. I really enjoy taking his class . Will recommend his class .
He rarely responds to emails and didn't even grade half of my assignments. Such a tough grader and very picky at writing assignments and the exam correct answers will sometimes be marked wrong. He always left comments on my assignments claiming its "never detailed enough." Don't take him choose someone else.
He has these weekly writing assignments and you have to respond based on info from the lecture slides. You could write the entire Constitution and he would still find ways to tell you "too vague" or tell you you're using incorrect information, even when you could be copying the lecture slides word for word. + some exam questions incorrectly graded
Pls do not take this professor, this professor must think that all grades only go from 0% to 80% percent. i worked my but off fixing his assignments to perfection and he comes up with excuses like my analysis wasn't good enough and just gives he a horrible grade anyway. If you made 1 historical discrepancy in your paper, then you get a whopping 20%
Really great professor! I'd say it's an easy A as long as you do all the work and participate in the discussions. I definitely would recommend taking his online course :)
Don't recommend taking his class online, 1 thing that almost tanked my grade was the writing assignments, will always find a way to dock points even if you write in detail, would point out missing info that isn't talked about in the modules, just take him in person if you want actual feedback as hes hard to reach when emailing him about the course.
