This class was just okay for me. He gives 3 tests as your grade and the third one was hard, but just study the past exams and handouts he puts on D2L and you should be fine. It also helps to take pictures of the slides as well. He doesn't post these on D2L and he goes super fast. Lectures were boring, but he gives practice tests before the tests.
He is a really nice guy but I was not strong in econ and this prof is not strong in teaching it to someone who knows nothing, if you have some previous knowledge about it then go for it, you should be fine but i didnt enjoy it. He does not post any power points or notes so if you want the notes then you have to go to class or ask a friend.
3 tests and he gives you plenty of practice. very knowledgeable on econ. Very nice guy study handouts before the test and you should get a good grade. would definitely take him again
If you Study on his handouts and exams of past semesters, it's easy to get an A for this class. Take him, you are on the right track.
Prof Hoy has been one of the greatest professors I have had at KSU. He does have semi-boring lectures, but he's incredibly smart and will do anything he can to help you. He wants his students to do well. Only three tests, but if you do the study guides you will get an A (86 and above counts as an A)
Your grade is split up between 3 multiple choice tests that are equally weighted. He puts every past exam up online with an answer key so as long as you study those you do not even have to worry about going to class.
Tries to make class fun but its just a boring subject. Only graded by 3 test and the final is very difficult
Professor Hoy is a nice man and means well but should not teach this course. ECON1000 should be a breeze, the class is graded by 3 tests, so if you mess up on one test it hurts your grade. Attendance is option which is nice. He is very monotone and has a weird accent which makes him hard to understand and really pay attention.
the class is a little boring but he jokes around sometimes once he's comfortable. have to go to class to get good notes that will help you with the test. a little monotone. extremely nice and helpful, won't turn you down for extra help. explains things really well and wants you to ask questions if you're lost. amazing professor. would def take.
The class is is easy when looking back on it. The tests are the questions from the book, except for the last on. If you don't know to memorize the questions in the back of the chapters or his online practice you won't do too well.
Professor Hoy teaches by PowerPoints and lectures. There are 3 tests that make up your whole grade... if you do poorly on one it is very hard to get an A. You have to focus on the questions in the back of the textbook and his previous tests he releases to do well (on the first two tests). The last test (final exam) was very hard for some reason.
Your grade is based off of 3 exams, although attendance isnt mandatory its necessary in order to do well on the exams.
While attendance is not mandatory, you definitely want to attend because he reviews everything that will be on the tests. He posts past tests and will stay after class to help those that are struggling. He frequently asks if there are any questions during the lecture, and tries to put the material in real world concepts. Grade depends on 3 tests.
Professor Hoy was a fun teacher for me. His lectures are alright and he wants to make sure that everyone understands the material. Like everyone else has stated, he only has three exams. The first two are straight from the textbook and the last is about half textbook-half lecture. It is an easy A (86% or above) as long as you study for the exams.
Graded only on 3 tests all semester, no homework, tests are from the book very closely, an 86 is an A so he is more lenient there, and he offers up to 3 extra credit points for attending lectures outside of class time. Wouldnt take him again tho because of how lecture heavy class is and how he is not a good lecturer to me.
Dr. Hoy is a decent professor. I made a C in his class simply because I do not understand econ well. I was fine with it. He only grades 3 tests from the entire year. You don't have to show up in his class; all the info you will need is in the textbook. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS IN THE TEXTBOOK. He takes questions from there for his exams.
Seriously, just look at the questions from past tests and from the back of the book. I would not have passed if not for that. You don't even have to show up to get an A. I went to class maybe three times.
I took professor Hoy for Econ 1000, I enjoyed his lectures but half of the time I got bored and stopped paying attention. Your grade is based off of 3 tests and theres no final. The tests are straight out of the textbook (practice tests) so if you memorize the questions and answers you will make an A.
He really cares about his students and tries to let everyone pass. There are 3 test and the first 2 are straight from the textbook and the 3rd one is 90% textbook. You dont have to show up to class to get an A but if you dont understand it I would suggest going. If you somehow dont do good, always ask to see your test, you may get a better grade
Grades off of three tests, but all are straight from the textbook, word for word. Class is optional, but I recommend attending if you are wanting to learn more about economics than just passing the tests. I recommend this teacher and would take him again. He answers all students' questions.
All he does is read right from the powerpoints that aren't even his. Get the book you NEED IT! The first two test are from straight questions from the practice tests in the back of the book. The last test was a mixture of the book questions and lectures, so you have to go to class. Only three tests, so take a different teacher! Gives extra credit!
Only grades are 3 tests. First 2 are word-for-word practice questions from textbook. I didn't believe this for the first test cause I was sketch, but still received a high B. The last is a mixture of notes from lecture and practice question. I only studied practice questions and got an 84. Never went to class after 1st exam. Kinda easy A imo.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Hoy is a very nice guy. Buy the textbook (only available at KSU bookstore) and study the practice questions and show up for the test days and you can pass easily with an A. Tests are either straight from the textbook practice questions or powerpoint practice questions. No reason to even show up to class otherwise.
Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't get the notes until a week before the exam if you don't go. If he notices a lot of people out of class he gives those who attended 2 extra points on their test and gives up to 3 points added to your final grade if you attend some lectures outside class. He is very nice and helpful and just study. Great Prof
He is really nice and understanding!! Most of the test questions were from the textbook so just remember those. Also gives extra credit oppotrunities. Take him!!
Study all test review questions they are the most helpful and questions in the powerpoint. Class is not mandatory but if you go he may give some extra credit.
Professor Hoy's class was actually really cool. I only took this class for credit, but it was really easy. Only 3 test for whole grade, but study all of the questions at the end of the chapters and you will be fine. Some extra credit for attending some seminars and coming to class. There is a relaxed grading scale, so it is an easy A.
Tough
The most laid back online class ever. You will have a lot of textbook reading, but he summarizes them in his lecture notes. He also has study guides ready for quizzes/exams with practice questions and ALWAYS has a "Practice Quiz" or "Practice Exam" the week of an exam week. He responds to emails quickly. I highly recommend taking Professor Hoy.
Professor Hoy does not demand much from you. The notes he posts include everything you need for the class. the quizzes and exams are easy and he provides a practice exam/quiz before the real thing to get you prepared. Overall he is an amazing teacher :)
Although textbook is "required", I did not use it once and made an A. He provides so much extra info it's practically impossible to fail. Study guides provided and SUPER helpful. Class was super easy! Print SG's and take practice exams/quizzes and you'll do amazing!!
I took Mr. Hoy online for fall 2020 (still during covid) and his class was a breeze. He had practice exams for his actual exams that were almost identical, had frequent but super easy quizzes, and you dont need a textbook. Writing PowerPoint notes is optional, copying the study guides down will do you just as good. Take him if you want an easy A!
I took professor Hoys class online (Covid) and it was a breeze! Theres no lockdown browser for any of the tests or quizzes, and the study guides are almost exactly the same as the tests/quizzes. The lecture notes he gives for the class are also super helpful and have everything you need to know. Take this class if you want an easy A!
Super easy class and all the material is provided for you.
The class wasn't too bad, not a bad professor either I guess, average. We had quizzes almost every week(not on lockdown) and a test every few weeks(not on lockdown). The quizzes/tests were pretty much like the study guides so not a problem there.
Mr. hoy's class was great ! All you have to do is read the chapter and take the practice quiz The practice quiz was just like the real quiz, same thing for exams. He gave all these external resources, notes, and PowerPoints. Anyways, all I did was read the lecture notes and take the practice quiz. I finished with an 95!
as an incoming freshman during COVID, this class was thankfully really simple and easy. the class grades are a quiz every week, and there are only 4 exams. it is really easy to pass this class, as long as you read the material given. i found it really easy to create quizlet sets to study. as long as you stay focused each week, you will pass.
so thankful for this class this semester. super easy and effortless!! all you have to do is read the chapters. one quiz a week and 4 tests total! so easy to understand & a blessing during an unusual year. ended with a 92! take professor hoy if you can!
Easiest online class I've ever taken. DON'T bother buying the textbook. Just read the lecture notes, and you'll very easily pass the class. Since the class was asynchronous, all we had was a quiz due every Sunday, and an Exam every few weeks or so. There is PLENTY of practice material provided.
Easiest class i took this year. The tests arent lockdown browser so its practically open note. You dont need the text book either the notes are super easy to understand. Would definitely take again; youll end with an A
Very easy class I would highly recommend taking the class with this professor. There is no homework and if you just look over the PowerPoint before the quizzes and test you are good.
Hoy gave a LOT of resources outside of the textbook, so you can save your money. Test and quizzes are easy as long as you look over the study guides and lecture notes. Definitely recommend taking his course! EASY A
I never interacted with this prof once, which I don't mind. 4 tests, 5 quizzes, and he gives you practice quizzes/exams that are pretty much identical to the real thing. Easiest class I've taken.
Never spoke with this professor once. Tests and quizzes are very easy if you read the textbook and utilize the resources he provides. The practice tests and quizzes are identical to the actual tests and quizzes. This class is good for people who like to read and don't enjoy too much interaction.
I honestly am so thankful for Professor Hoy for making this class EASY. With the pandemic, it is like these professors do not care and want to throw MORE assignment our way. THIS CLASS IS EASY, quiz each week due on sunday and it is very identical with the practice quiz. TAKE HIM.
This is a great class to boost your GPA. Every quiz and exam is nearly identical to the practice ones you'll take before. It's required to buy a textbook, but all the lecture notes come from it, so there's no reason. Most of the material can be found on Quizlet.
I took Professor Hoys class online, and all of his welcome materials make him appear super strict, but in reality his class isnt bad. Each week you have to take either a quiz or a test, but you have from Monday-Sunday to take it. You dont need to buy the textbook because he provides ample study materials and practice exams. Not bad at all.
Super easy A! No need to buy the textbook - I didn't open it once and I got a 100 in the class. I just watched the video lectures each week and then took the quiz/test. Questions were identical to the practice quizzes/test. Highly recommend if you're just taking this class for a gen ed!
You're only graded on a few quizzes and 3 exams plus the final. He gave out a survey to complete for extra points to boost up your grade. The quizzes and exams are easy as long as you study the powerpoint. He is strict on no makeup exams and no assignment extensions. definitely recommend him, econ1000 is pretty easy.
Made a 110 in the class. The class only consists of weekly test or quizzes, so yay, no pesky assignments! He says you need the book but you wont since the study guide and practice test/quizzes are basically the real test/quiz. I spent 1 hour max per week in this class. It's harder to fail a test than it is to pass.
The only grade are the test and quizzes but they are not bad. No lockdown browser no webcam. I did not watch any lectures or read the textbook and the class was still really easy. Definitely take him.
Hoy is probably the easiest econ professor at KSU. Only graded on quizzes and tests and gives practices for them all. We had one extra credit opportunity, very easy. Go over the study guides he gives you and do the practice exams and you should be good! I still learned a lot without it being painfully hard.
super easy class. no lockdown browser or webcam. he provides practice exams and quizzes which are practically the exact same as the real test or quiz. easy A, literally spent maybe an hour every week on work for this class!
This professor is great! The class was straight forward, and made up of quizzes and tests. There were practice assessments for everything that outlined the answers almost exactly which really helped. I highly recommend this professor for this class, especially if ECON is not your thing. Also, the textbook is not necessary, I never used it.
He made Econ really fun and easy, his lectures were fun and engaging. Even with Econ he still made his lectures entertaining.
His class was an easy A. He gave practice exams (not taken for a grade) before his actual exams that were extremely helpful. No respondus lockdown. Our grade consisted of 5 quizzes and 4 exams. Super simple and easy.
The most comforting thing ever is when he starts his lectures with, "Good evening ladies and gentlemen." You don't need to go to class to pass, but you still have to put in the work outside of class. Everything is on the D2L page and most answers are reworded from the practice tests/study guides. Definitely recommend him for this class.
Professor Hoy was very kind and caring with enjoyable lectures. His class is very assessment-heavy, so that is something to keep in mind if you aren't a good test-taker. They are all online, however, and there was no midterm or final. There is a textbook available but I never found it necessary.
Took him for Micro. Respected & knowledgeable. I took his evening class, but I ended up not going the last few weeks. Everything is online, no attendance required, no lockdown browser. I promise when I say his tests & quizzes are easy. Just do them on time & you will be fine! Would've had an A if I didn't slack on 2 quizzes! (Finished with an 88%!)
Take him. His energy is very positive. He is strict about due dates and wont curve grades. But honestly just do his work and you'll pass. Class not mandatory just keep up with the powerpoints he post on D2L.
I took ECON 2106 with this professor. He seems tough at first, but he's actually very kind and caring. I barely went to class and still ended up doing well in this course. All our assignments are online, including exams. The exams were roughly 30-40 questions and weren't difficult at all.
This class was great. I did not show up a single day to class and still passed with a 95. He does not offer extra credit, but if you have a baseline knowledge of economics you should be fine.
I love Professor Hoy! He is so sweet and genuine. He definitely knows what he is talking about and loves what he teaches. The whole class was just going through PowerPoints. There was one quiz and one test per unit, not lockdown. The material was basic economics + he would give practice sheets to better prepare you for exams if you came to class.
I loved having Dr.Hoy for ECON 1000. The class is graded by 4 tests and 5 quizzes, no final, all online no lockdown. He posts all of his powerpoints onto D2L so you do not technically have to come to class but he gives practice tests and ec to those who do come. Easy A.
Professor Hoy is an AMAZING professor. Only 5 quizzes and 4 tests. No final. All tests are online with no lockdown browser. Attendance is not mandatory, but I did feel bad that barely anyone attended his lectures. He is a very caring man and very obviously loves what he teaches. Take him!
AMAZING professor. I would take him again & again. He made my semester so incredibly stress free, while being able to learn at my own pace! Only 5 quizzes & 4 tests I believe, and no lockdown browser. Everything you need including notes are all online so attendance isn't mandatory. He tends to cancel class when it rains (which I like) but heads up!
AWESOME professor.
Your overall grade is based on your performance on 5 quizzes (10 questions) and 4 exams (40 questions). There is no lockdown browser. The material is straightforward and you can find multiple study guides and answer keys online. He posts various helpful documents and explanation videos to assist you. I recommend reading the textbook though.
Dr. Hoy was such a sweet professor, and his class was super easy! I'd recommend him to anyone. No lockdown browser, and pretty easy quizzes and tests.
This class is super easy. Professor Hoy just reads the slides, does a bit of further analysis in class, then posts the slides after the lecture. If you show up even a little but, you will get an A.
Great instructor, the only grades in this class were from 5 quizzes and 4 tests, all online. Very easy class. Attendance is not mandatory.
he is the best professor I could have asked for as a freshman. Highly recommend, he plays lots of movie clips that relate to the topic.
Dr. Hoy is an extremely kind and caring person. Attendance is not required leading to many people skipping class after the first week since all assignments are online. Only 5 tests and 5 quizzes. Highly recommend going to lecture as even online the tests can be confusing and he is a great teacher.
Most amazing sweetest professor ever. Entire grade is based off of the quizzes and the tests, tests are just like the quizzes and if you get anything wrong on a test or quiz you can just email and he'll explain what and why something was wrong. Super easy if you just go to class and pay somewhat attention.
He is a pretty cool guy tbh. He posts a lot of resources like practice tests and his powerpoints and they are really easy. Only a 10 week course with 4 tests and 5(?) quizzes. Everything is online and unproctored.
Great teacher. Really wanted everyone to succeed. Grade was made up of 5 quizzes and 4 exams (no lockdown browser for anything). There was a textbook that we were supposed to read, but I never touched it and never had any issues. He did a great job at teaching economics and the class was really easy because of that. I would take him again any day.
Not much extra credit. Weekly lectures. 4 main exams with 5 quizzes. Not much room for error. He answers emails in a timely manner. You can contact him for explanations. Heavily recommend you take him for econ
Dr. Hoy is an overall "good" professor, hence the rating. He shortened the course to 10 weeks. Lectures are somewhat boring, it's ECON. The only grades are 5 quizzes and 4 tests. There were errors in the quiz answers from time to time but you can email for credit. Seems like a nice guy. It's up to you to do the work and earn an A.
Super easy A and he never takes attendance. All quizzes and tests are taken on D2L with no lockdown browser. No other assignments have to be done for the class other than the tests and quizzes which are super easy.
The best econ professor ever. He truly cares for his students, quizzes and exams are easy if you legit just read through his notes, and if you have a question/problem he is always so quick to help. Had a loss in my fam and missed an exam, he helped me through it and reopened the exam for me. So caring, love him, take him.
Bro this class was the easiest and most relaxing class ever. Finished with a 92.5 but I slacked off towards the mid semester only a 10 week course btw.
as a first year student Mr.hoys class was refreshing he truely made sure that he didnt make it difficult to understand the material and gave great explanations throughout his online lectures would 100 percent recomment him. he does crunch 3 chapters per week for the last week.
Pretty easy class. A few videos and a quiz each week with a test every 3 weeks. The last 2 weeks are 3 units each, so it's a bit of a cram but the tests cover the units well.
Mr. Hoy is my opinion is a great professor. His class is straightforward and overall an easy A if your just do your assignments. His assessments consist of 5 quizzes and 4 tests. Both were easy and came from the lectures and textbook.
Lectures are a bit too long tbh, but that's better than too short. Quizzes are short, so you cannot get a lot wrong, but they're easy, so it's not a big deal. Tests are easy. Overall easy class
Graded only by 4 exams and 5 quizzes, nothing else. No extra credit or extensions. Recorded lectures can be long (often around 30ish minutes) and the last two exams include more chapters than the first two, but basic studying and paying attention to what's being said in lectures can help you pass easily. Not a hard course, I would recommend him.
This class was okay. Only made up of quizzes and exams so there's not a lot of buffer for your grade. He provides chapter study guides and practice tests with answer keys, which are helpful. Pay attention and complete the work on time and you should be fine. One extra credit opportunity at the beginning of the semester.
Class consists of 5 quizzes (20%) and 4 exams (80%). The class is not hard, but some of the questions are kind of weird and sometimes the answer key is wrong. There was an extra credit assignment for 1 point total. Does not use lockdown browser but does have a time limit on quizzes and exams. Gives good study guides. last exam is NOT cumulative.
