He is straight from the book but likes to talk about the current events that have caught his eye or researched.
He's awesome. Class is interesting. He's so helpful and the tests are sooooo easy. You couldn't ask for an easier class.
he is the best, definately recommend to anyone who needs this course, i will be taking 2314 with him hopefully!
Just show up learn the definitions and you'll get an A.
Very clear and easy to understand professor, his class is pretty easy too and provides students with plenty of extra credit assignments. The tests consist of definitions and fill in the blanks so they're pretty easy. However, I don't feel like he teaches politics, the class consists of current event discussions and that's it.
Best professor ever, his class was very interesting. the tests were also easy. hopefully i get him for the second part
Such a good class. It is not the typicall class that you go and you just want to get the hell out. This class is such an interesting class, he is always talking about what is going on on the news in the US and the rest of the world. You just have to study the definitions that he gives you and you must get an easy A. He also gives you a lot points.
took it spring 06 3 tests, thats it!!! all vocabulary!! always talking about the news, i liked that cuz ur always informed, extra credit, easy class!!
Interesting class, out of the ordinary. He mainly talks about current events. The only homework he assigned is used as extra creidt for test, and it's not the difficult. He tells the class straight forward what is going to be on the tests. Easy A if you study.
well educated professor, very enthusiastic about subject. Teaches more modern politics than what is in the text book. Tests are not difficult. Strongly recommend
Easiest class I have ever taken! Study guides are composed of glossary terms which you can get an easy A if you study them. Tests are fill in the blank or definitions and Mr. Jackson gives plenty of extra credit assignments. I loved his class so much I'm taking him for the second part.
good teacher study key terms but learn them and that all you need if you don't get an a its cause you didn't try at all gives 7 projects outside basically bios of different politicians really do learn its easy but you do learn and remember i swear
This class was very easy, just memorize key terms for the tests- 25 fill in the blank, 25 definition. His projects are either bios of politicians or opinion papers on current events. Part of your grade depends on class participation, which consists of bringing in a current event article and discussing it aloud in class, each time class meets.
makes a boring class very enjoyable
Excellent teacher
Really cool and laid back. He really mostly talks about current events and not so much over textbook material. When it's almost test time there is a review. Just do the review and you're good for the test. The test are blue book, so do study.
He was a great teacher. His class was easy to understand and his test were exactly what he had on the reviews.
get news articles related to the study guide for particapation (mandatory), what's on his study guides is in the test, he provides extra credit and assignemnts to bring ur grade up, test has tricky questions, pay attention to everything he lectures, you will enjoy the class.
He seemed upset at the class most of the time. Has trouble communicating exactly what he wants and will change his mind if not reminded what he has said in previous classes. Make sure you know exactly what he expects of you and from then on it's smooth sailing. Read the chapters, bring news articles, talk in class.
Excellent professor. He was really cool and he gives students a lot of extra credit, take advantage of it! But do study for the examinations, they are a bit tricky. Other than than, it was actually a fun class.
Very nice man. Do the extra credit or you'll regret it at the end of the semester. it's very easy. Make sure you study the vocabulary and that'll get you through 75% of the exams.
Professor Jackson is one of those teachers who really loves what he does!! Excellant teacher, you do have to know what's going on in the news and ready/study your chapters. Overall you leave the class knowing a lot about democracy. TAKE HIM you will get your tuitions worth.
Extremely good professor to take. The only bad thing is that he is EXTREMELY hard also. You have to live, eat, and sleep politics to get an A in the class. On our first test there were no "A's". He's super interesting but you will also have very difficult tests and have to participate in class everyday to get your participation points.
His class was great! I got an A, and it definitely wasn't hard! take advantage of the extra credit though!
He is very intelligent, however, he should be teaching Statistics or another subject. He barely explains class and you have to read like 700 pages. Class is easy if you study, this class is unfair for no Political Science majors.
This professor is someone I will never forget in my entire life, he makes his class easy in in Pan Am cause the class is huge, in my College at Brownsville his class was a unique experience
This class is one of the most interesting and fun classes i have taken while at pan am. HE is a great lecturer, BUT!, it is almost impossible to get an A seriously great class, hard grader!!! i personally think it is mathematically impossible to get an A even with all the extra credit you can give. BUT it is an interesting class
The class is very interesting, there was always a debate held not b/c it was planned it was due to ppl's beliefs The prof always strived to show both Dem and Rep side of cases U can learn a lot he makes pol sci very interesting always strives to elaborate gives extra credit attandance not madatory u write notes u need to study 4 the class
HE IS AWSOME HE MADE THE CLASS EASY BUT HE STILL HELPED ME LEARN ABOUT POLITICS
doesn't quite explain material as necessary! look for different prof.
Awesome Teacher! I can honestly say that I was never interested in government, but he was very helpful! I looked forward into attending the class. All you have to do is make sure that you attend all the lectures, take notes, and study. The class will go by smoothly if you study well!
The grade is point-based from 3 tests 7 projects and participation. Bring articles, you get particip. pts and if it has a term an extra point and a test question. He gives lots of extra credit but his tests are hard if people don?t participate. And if they do, he takes long before giving the question, going off topic a bit. Easy if you participate.
His class is different. He doesn't lecture that much but discusses with the class anything they've heard in the news. What stinks is the participation points that are responsible for 30 points of your grade. To get points you have to bring 30 articles to class and discuus them. Everyone is trying to get the points so your fighting to get yours.
I adored him and his knowledge. It made him kind of sexy if you think about it. Participate and bring articles to class EVERYDAY, and you'll pass with just participation. The articles contain words in his word bank, and then he'll discuss the question that will be on the test. I loved that the final was NOT comprehensive. 3 tests only [polydik ;P]
Jackson is a great professor who knows alot about what he's teaching & uses humor in class. Before this class, I had no interest in Politics but now, I find it pretty cool. The class isnt hard if you take good notes & you dont HAVE to read the book but it could help.Attendance isnt mandatory but when you miss class, you miss alot. I recommend him!!
it is a challenging class but if you pay attention to him you will get a good grade. make sure to bring up as many vocabulary words in class discussions to get the test questions from him. he is a great teacher and makes the subject super interesting!!!
This guy thinks he knows everything.Seems to me like he is mad at the world...or rather mad at the politics in this world.Y not just teach n not give personal opinions? Join politics to give ur opinion not teach a class. Not fair for people whose major has nothing to do with political science. Don't choose him.
His lectures are not boring and you really learn something every day you attend class.
DO NOT LISTEN to the person that says that this professor thinks he knows everything! For sure he knows more than the commenter! This professor is a really good professor, if you take good notes, bring in articles, read & study you'll do fine.I really recommend him.
Professor Jackson is one of the best and most interesting Political Science Professors. Super Interesting and helpful. You will learn a lot about our government and those that play a part in it. Even if PolSci is not your major, you will ace this class with an Easy A!! I truly recommend him:D
he is really easy...all you have to do is read what he gives you.
he is not a good teacher! he isn't very helpful he is a rude teacher that will kick you out of class if you are even talking.. his exams are hard as well i don't recommend him.. he is very boring and doesn't seem to care if you pass or not. DON"T TAKE HIM!!!!!
horrible prof gives EC but not helpful at all lots of essays very moody hard tests vocabalury words as review did not match exam questions listening to lectures is crucial so if you don't pay attention don't expect to pass if you like a hard prof he's your guy
Perhaps a bit stubborn and opinionated, but mostly everyone is when it comes to politics. Gives you word bank sheet, bring articles related to words and get EXACT answers for exam '?'s, which also have an essay response he goes over in detail before each exam. 7 other research papers in total. Awesome class! He encourages everyone to be informed.
HE IS GOOD YOU DO LEARN.... IF YOU WANT TO GET AN "A" BUY HIS BOOK THAT WILL HELP YOU ALOT BUT YOU REALLY DONT HAVE TO BUY IT BECAUSE EVERYONE CAN PASS WITH AN ESSY B TO A =)
I'm not saying he is a BAD teacher, but he tends to complain how our society is basically stupid, and how its our fault the government is the way it is. Don't be late, he WILL kick you out, take notes, get his book, and have your articles, they will help you pass his class.
He's an excellent teacher. His class is not easy, but it's really the place where you can learn about stuff that's happening right now. Score based on 3 tests, 7 essays, and class participation. Really good teacher!
For an introduction class i can honestly say I learned nothing. He assigned this huge book which was never used in class nor reviewed. Instead it was used more at home. He rather discussed current events which lasted the whole class time. Class was plain, he never used anything visually and instead ranted. 100 question tests along with essay.
This class is great. He really gets you thinking. Pay attention and speak up. He gives you everything that is going to be on the test so take notes. His opening lecture might make you think twice about signing up for the class but don't worry you're gonna love this course. Best professor I've had yet.
Professor Jackson is honestly the best professor I've had. He gives a word bank, and if you bring in a news article with a word from there, he gives you the answer regarding that word on the test. 7 Essays, 4 Tests and a test depending on your participation. I recommend Professor Jackson to everyone! His attitude is awesome and he says dude a lot
Jackson is a good teacher to get if your not into political science. Reading the book is required to pass the exams. He gives alot of extra credit opportunities by providing a word bank and if your bring an article regarding a word he gives points and the questions on the test. :) good teacher overall interesting lecture
Professor Jackson is awesome! I really hated politics, but he made it pretty interesting and he would give opportunities for extra credit! Highly recommend u take his class! Got a B and never read more than a few pages to prep for the exams! BE SURE TO TAKE ARTICLES THAT INCLUDE A WORK FROM THE WORD BANK!
Take him! He is awesome. Always be ready to read your article for participation points and the question and answer for the exam. Buying the book makes a difference in whether you want an A or B.I really enjoyed his class. He talks a lot and you get really interested in the class. :) HAVE FUN!
Professor Jackson is awesome! Take him! Make sure to participate by taking articles from the word bank! He will give you the question and answer to the test. Buying the book and actually going over the definition makes a difference between a A or B! Try hard on the essay questions at the end of the test! They help out a lot on the points given! :)
You learn alot in his class, but only if you study. If you dont, then you're screwed. Talks alot about current events.
Moody attitude, rude, some questions did not go with the exam, he WILL kick you out of class if you show up 5mins late, Exams are long plus an essay. You need to show up everyday to get as much words from the word bank and read the book.
GREAT professor! Just take articles to class (those points really help!). He goes over test questions IF the word is used in an article. He DOES go over every aspect of the essay question! I am taking him again this coming semester!! I learned SO much!! :D
DO NOT take any classes with this guy. He rants and rambles on like he knows everything about current events, but he's actually very misinformed. He makes up facts and statistics on the fly to strengthen his incredibly ignorant opinions. He forces his ignorance on the class, which is a shame because most students don't know or care enough to realiz
I had absolutely no interest in Politics until taking his class. He is a wonderful professor and very interesting. If you put in an effort and attend class, you will get the majority of the questions on the tests. You shouldn't take this class if you are lazy. But if you really want to learn, and want an interesting professor, he is worth it.
I'm almost through with this course and only need a 77 on the final to get an A. All he does is gives us 7 projects and 3 exams. You also need to participate in class with 3 current events. The projects are almost always exactly what he wants, so you'll get full points. The participation is easy, so all you need to do is nail the tests for an A.
Do not take this professor unless you love government! There was only 1 A in the class, few B's the rest just C's and D's My test grades were not that bad, 80,67,70 and even though I did all my projects and participated A LOT, he ended up giving me a D!! I am going to retake the class in the summer and waste money.
Don't listen to any negative comments on this board. If you take this guy and don't get an A in this class then you didn't ask enough questions in class. This guy is a great professor! I never cared about polotics, but this guy opened my eyes to how important it is to educate myself about the people running my counrty. I care about voting now.
AWESOME teacher never thought i like political science till i took him if you read the chapters and take good notes easy A if you dont maybe a B. His exams are kinda long but there easy if you know the material. I recommend taking this teacher!
This class was wonderful! He makes politics easy to understand and does not let his personal beliefs get in the way. I learned so much! Took him during summer and earned a B without the book. Just participate and write good one-page papers. He's awesome!
I took him a couple years ago! I've always hate POLS but his class made me LOVE it! He's very smart, knows how to teach and explains really well. Just participate and pay attention. I remember one time he penalized the class with a quiz for not participating and out of everyone, I was one of the few that passed. And that's cuz Im not good at POLS.
awesome instructor! he really wants students to learn and he can be very sarcastic but he is funny. He gives extra point if you bring in daily articles. He also gives you the questions that will be in the test with article you bring.
I love this professor! He always knows what he's talking about and his knowledge for political science makes you (at least me) love this subject even more! He is very clear on what he wants for our projects, and he gives you extra cred option by you bringing in a current article. TAKE HIM! EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!
If you are looking for a professor who likes to bore you to death with lectures, then don't take him. Mr. Jackson enjoys discussing current events with students, bring an article and as a result he will give you direct answers to questions on exams. However you must read the book to understand the content of his test questions. Highly recommend him
Badd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Very interesting! He's funny and keeps the class entertained. His goal is to make the students aware of what's happening with the government and world. Gives extra credit for participating by bringing in current articles. Also, he gives a test question and answer for every article. He also assigns short papers which require little research.
He is so awesome. Anyone who wrote bad comments is still in an immature high school state. He's lived through a lot, seen a lot& served in the military-- so he likes to point out how lucky we are to live in America&have our education. You have a total of 7 projects (short research papers) &3 exams which he gives the answers to if you work for it.
The only good thing about the class is that if you take an article with a word you will get the answer for that word in the exam. Discussion of articles that are irrelevant to the class, he's a very knowledgeable man he just doesn't use class time that wisely.
He is super passionate about what he teaches. He makes you want to learn more. At first he is intimidating but you will not regret staying in the class. If you do everything you are supposed to it is an easy A. He gives all the answers to the exams with his word bank, make sure to bring in articles for EC, and do all the projects he assigned. EASY A
He is a very knowledgable professor, the only thing is that the exams are worth 75% of your grade. Even if you do the projects and do not do so well on the exams you won't get a good grade. Most of the words and definitions are not in the book so you have to make sure you ask about them by discussing an article and using the word.
He's very knowledgeable in his field. I didn't know the articles were a requirement (always thought they were voluntary). Good if this is your major.
Professor Jackson is a great professor and really knows how to make politics fun and interesting! This class class was one of my favorites. He does not put up with anything disrupting his class or plagiarism!! However he is really nice and understanding and explains things very well. Take him and you will love this class!
I loved this class. The work load is not easy but its not too difficult either and I managed to get an A even while i was taking 5 other classes, including Chemistry. There are 7 projects that are typed and have to do with learning about our representatives, he doesnt specify a number of pages, as long as you explain fully. gives extra credit.
coming fr a person who disdains polsci straight off the bat he makes it enjoyable. exams aren't that hard if you do the study guides. participation pts are fr articles you give n if you can assoc. it w/ one of the study guide words, he will give the question on it. 7 projects on a topic mla style, no certain # of pgs (your choice on that).
His class is hard if you dont pay atention, you must know and be familiarized with ALL the words from the list that he provides. You're lazy, dont take him, you'll fail.
Great professor! Only a few grades in the class. Three exams and a couple of projects. Also you might need current event articles every class period for a participation grade. Gives out key terms for the exams.
Great Class! he asks you to read and discuss current events. He will reward your participation by defining terms that will appear on exam. Don't miss class!!
he's kind of rude sometimes but not that much
This professor is really rude he literally cussed out a classmate for asking his fellow classmate for the question of the day! He literally say shut the f up or get the f out! If you want a drill Sargent take this guy! He assigns projects and you definitely need a lot of studying for his tests they are tough! I would not recommend him to anyone
Super rude & pretty much told us not to even go to school. That we are wasting tax payers money. He failed 75 percent of the class beware. He assigns 7 projects and 3 tests and reading the book will save you on the tests. Also, the test are 75 questions long. Beware..
I loved this class, it has been my favorite so far. He explains that the tests are worded in a high vocabulary but helps you understand what you're learning beforehand. I enjoy his passion for Government and how he makes me stay informed with current events. Also gives you clues to what will be on the test!
This guy is a great professor. You don't need the textbook because he provides everything in the slides. He gives you a list of terms to study for the exams, which are multiple choice, so it's an easy test to pass. The only way you can fail this class is if you don't study the terms. He's also pretty funny so the class is enjoyable.
Participation-read current events&provide the article to him. He provides you with power points, the terms on the exam and projects on BB. Everything is on the pp and he gives you the question asked on the exam of the term. For elaboration use the textbook. There are 6 projects, they are easy, two at a time. He's funny and his lec are interesting.
As long as you do the articles and include the words he gives you and show up to every class. Print out the power points and you will be good.
Jackon's lectures are amazing! You can tell he has passion for teaching, even though it may come off as rude. He cusses at times, and talks loudly. However, I found his teaching style helps make the class less boring. I learned a lot about politics this semester, and now I like to learn on my own. There are 3 tests and projects. Do extra credit
SO FAR, HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. HE MAKES YOU WORK FOR YOUR GRADE BUT IS AMAZING AND KNOWS HIS STUFF. I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE SAYS THINGS THE WAY IT IS. NO SUGAR COATING OR BS. I WOULD DEF TAKE HIM AGAIN! THERE ARE FEW GOOD PROFESSORS AND HE IS A LEGEND! DR POLINARD IS TOO! ITS A PRIVELAGE TO SIT IN THEIR CLASSES!
Hes a great professor. Very understanding and helpful
You need to attend class everyday or else you will miss out on points and it will affect your grade. Was not an impossible class to ace, but it does take up a lot of time. Professor is rude and curses. Grade is composed of participation (mandatory attendance), projects (completion grade), and 3 exams (based off of terms).
His class is not impossible. Class is mandatory because he calls you for daily news and it's counted as your participation. He gives you terms, defines some of them and sometimes gives you a question that will be on the exam in regards to that question. There's projects that are fairly easy and exams are basic easy questions based on terms and book
He cusses SO much. His class has mandatory attendance just because you never know when he's going to call your name for a news article. His projects are simple paragraphs you turn in, nothing special. You basically have to read the book to pass, he gives you questions from the test in class too. First 2 tests are 100 questions each, last one is 59.
Class isn't impossible. If you want to pass, definitely buy the book. Assignments are fairly simple and he gives you lots of time to complete them just don't procrastinate. He always tells you when his lecture includes a question from the exam so don't skip and pay attention. He also has his funny moments.
Attendance not mandatory but you should definitely attend because many exam questions are given through out the class lecture. 7 projects but it's technically 3 since some are together. Read the the weekend before and you should be fine. With effort an A, minimal effort B.
