extremely energetic and corny. knows how to wake you up. explains things well. knows how to make the subject seem simple.
Dr. Kim is a very energetic teacher, who tries hard to make everything very clear. It's not hard to do well if you keep up with work, but the he moves along quickly so it's a struggle to catch back up it you fall behind.
His tests are very similar to the practice exams he gives out. If you do the practice test, you're good. You can tell he really cares about his students and is very willing to help you out, even not during office hours. He goes through problems very step by step, in almost excessive detail. If i had questions, I would rather go to the tutor center.
I really enjoyed going to this class, and I hate math. He is really energetic and tells really corny jokes but you just gotta love him. You need to do the WebWork assignments and the textbook assignments are helpful, but not graded. He is extremely helpful in office hours, so take advantage of them!!! I would totally recommend him.
Anyone ranking which shows Dr. Kim's helpfulness as being anywhere less than the full 5 points should be disregarded. Dr. Kim is a model Professor in that he is incredibly passionate and helpful. If you are not willing to put hard work into your math class, you will not succeed with any Professor. If you do put in effort, take Dr. Kim and enjoy.
Horrible professor! Rushes through material during class, skipping over vital things and expects students to teach the material to themselves outside of class. VERY nit-picky about grading tests. Webwork assignments are completely off-base from classwork. I love math, but hated dr. kims class.
Great guy, he is willing to help you out with anything, he gives out practice test that are exactly like the exams. You will do great in the test iff you ask questions on things you are not clear about. Just make sure to know those practice exams in and out and you will do fine.
Dr. Kim is one of the nicest professors you'll meet on campus. He lays out all the homework assignments, quiz dates, and exams dates in his syllabus the first day and typically sticks to it. You can tell he really loves his job and helping his students understand problems from multiple perspectives. I would totally recommend taking him.
Dr. Kim is the best professor on campus. He goes above and beyond the call of duty for his students, providing practice tests and LOADS of final-review material. If you don't like Dr. Kim, you need to a) show up to class b) study or c) solve some problems in your life. Math is not easy, but Dr. Kim makes it pleasant. Thank you for everything Dr Kim
Dr Kim is a very good professor. He is very helpful and has office hours at many different times during the day. He is also a very fair professor. His practice exams are very helpful and gives students an idea of what he will be testing.
I had Dr. Kim for both pre-calc and calc and LOVED him both times. Honestly the best professor any student could ask for. He goes well out of his way to meet with students and help them understand the material. He also keeps class fun! I will really miss him :(
Best prof you will be able to find. Very approachable and hes willing to help outside of office hours. You can tell he loves his job. Tests can be a little difficult but not too bad if you study. Dr. Kim is awesome.
Dr. Kim was a very attentive professor. I really hate math, but am not terrible at it as long as it's explained all the way through. He literally does each problem step by step to make sure the students understand, and answers any questions if you don't. Take him if you need extra help because his job is his life and he's often available.
Dr. Kim is a great teacher. He's funny, and helpful. He lays out basically everything you need to know in lectures. Some of the homework can be hard, but he's usually fairly willing to go out of his way to make sure you understand and aren't caught in the dust. He's also really passionate about his job, and about the subject he teaches.
Not mandatory attendance, but recommend going to class because his lectures aren't boring, and he is super clarifying and provides many examples in class.
He's the man. He explains things very clear. The webworks can be annoying but helpful in a way. It seems like that the only thing he worries about and puts time into is math. Dude's a genius. He has everything laid out from start of semester to end and sticks to it precisely. Has two one question quizzes then a test every time. Would take again.
Be ready for a quiz at the end of every week and its a pass or fail quiz. Not many exams. There is homework every night!!
Great professor, really loves his job. Is willing to make extra time to help you out, tests are hard but if you are willing to put in enough work he'll put in the time to help you.
He is very smart, but he's not the best at explaining the concepts of math to students. He assumes you already know a lot and just gives generic examples in class. Picky grader, one question quizzes every week. The WebWork has nothing to do with what you learn in class . A good guy, but not the greatest teacher if math isn't your best subject
His tests are awful and he doesn't prepare you that well for them in class. The assignments and problems don't look like the ones on the exams. I had an A in the class all year up until the final and then I got a D on the final.. The final was not fair and he did not prepare us at all for it!! Don't take precal with Dr. Kim!!
WebWork had nothing to do with the lessons learned in class. He was an overall helpful professor but he rushed through the material way too fast. His tests.. Super difficult even when I put in tons and tons of studying. Don't get me started on the quiz every week.. its basically a pass or fail quiz considering the fact there is only 1 problem on it
Great teacher I took his class last semester and got a D and couldn't even point a finger at him if I wanted to. The grade I received was due to my laziness not him. He puts lots of effort into his lessons, always grades fair and is always around for extra help if your willing to go to office hours.
He's a very smart guy, but not the best teacher. The tests are graded hard and the WebWork has nothing to do what you learn in class. If you love math then you should be fine, but if not that I would try to find a different professor.
I just got a math minor at UW La-Crosse, and of all the math professors I have had, Prof. Kim was hands down my favorite.
Professor Kim is very helpful and clear when lecturing. He is serious about using your time wisely and tries his hardest to make the class as simple as he can. Business Calc is not an easy course and you will have to work for it if you want a good grade. Gives out a lot of study material and practice exams are very much like the real thing.
He is a very smart guy, and he knows it. WebWork is not bad but doesn't really help much. If you need help, it's important to go in for office hours. I probably learned more there than during his actual lecture. This being said, Dr. K thinks he's very funny (laughs at own jokes) and he is easily offended. Makes you feel stupid for making mistakes.
Dr. Kim is hilarious, and he definitely makes calc the most enjoyable it can be. I was not excited about taking this class at all, but Kim is a great professor and made it doable. You do have to put some time in, but that's to be expected in a calc class. If you're not great at math, take him.
I dreaded taking this class. Dr. Kim made calc as enjoyable as possible. Lots of jokes, very clear, extremely helpful. With that being said, you have to put time and effort in. A good grade isn't handed to you, but if you work for it Dr. Kim will assist you in any way possible. Practice exams were extremely helpful. Very straight forward class.
He is very picky on some things, but otherwise he is great at teaching and does a good job of teaching the material. Good professor. Has good jokes. Would definitely recommend to friends.
I have taken multiple classes with Dr. Kim and he is by far my favorite math professor (I'm a math major). His exams, quizzes, and homework are all very challenging but he is more than willing to help. You can tell that he cares so much for his students. Not just a professor but a mentor.
Edward Kim is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He is extremely easy to learn from because he's good but he also really cares about the students. He tries to make class fun by playing clips or his ukulele. HE IS AN EXTREMELY HARD GRADER, but you learn a lot. If you are a math major I HIGHLY recommend. If not I would still recommend him.
Would definitely recommend taking Dr. Kim for MTH 175! You will have to do WebWork everyday. There are 4 tests and there are no surprises on any of them. He prepares his students very well and gives a ton of test prep. The practice exams are almost identical to the real ones, numbers are just different. Take him!
I failed this class the semester before and then I took it with Dr. Kim and everything made so much more sense. He works hard to give his students plenty of resources and really makes himself accessible. Tests are kind of tough but if you go in for office hours and ask questions, he explains everything super well
Dr. Kim is a great professor! Gets the most from his students and he expects a lot.
If you are going to take Dr. Kim for a math class, make sure it is not MTH 175. He is an excellent upper level teacher, however he taught this class very poorly. Additionally, if the class does below average, he refuses to release the grades. Do not take this class with him!
Dr. Kim is a very good teacher who explains everything very well. Very easy to get a hold of outside of class, lots of homework and a very tough grader.
This was Dr. Kim's first semester teaching this class, but he made it much more difficult than it needed to be. He gave out very challenging homework and quizzes, and blamed the students' work ethic when literally EVERYBODY in the class were getting F's. Sometimes the quiz averages were 40% and he didn't curve. Take another teacher with MTH 225.
Weekly quizzes but they are extremely reasonable and straight forward. Makes the subject interesting, very high energy lecture and easy to follow notes.
By far the hardest class I have ever taken. He explains things fairly well, but the homework almost never matches up to what he says.I spent over 3 hours on one set of Webwork(5 problems). Gets very angry in office hours and grades INCREDIBLY HARSHLY!He makes things much harder than they need to be and gets angry with the class when everyone gets Fs
He treats you like you are in higher level proof course. He makes things harder than they need to be and gets angry and blames us when everyone in the class isn't doing well. He a nice guy when you are doing well in the class, but as soon as you don't understand something he resorts to yelling at you. He expects you to know everything he knows.
Lots of energy and really wants all students to do well in his class. It is tons of work and you get homework every night.
Dudes a goofy spends all day trying to relate to 18 year old kids and crack jokes but then is serious during office hours. Dudes annoying.
VERY VERY PARTICULAR. If you don't do things exactly the way he wants it you get points off and a lot of them. Webwork homework everyday that is very difficult and has nothing to do with what we're learning in class. You really have to work for your grade even though this is a gen ed. He takes math insanely seriously. Lectures the entire class
Dr. Kim was the best math professor I've ever had and a real goofball. He's very specific in his explanations and dedicated to his students success. He holds weekly quizzes on the previous weeks material and there are four exams throughout the course. He was very helpful during office hours and I would definitely suggest taking his class!
Starting off, Calc II is a tough subject. You will struggle. With that out of the way, Dr. Kim is a super nice guy who is always willing to help you. He gives you everything you need to succeed if you put in effort. However, he offers little to no partial credit, notation needs to be perfect, etc. Tough grader, but an awesome teacher.
He acts like he is too good for the school he teaches at. The homework has very little to do with the tests or the in class work.
I really like Dr. Kim. He can be a little awkward sometimes, but he's cool. Showing up to class doesn't really matter, but if you do show up, make sure to participate. He yelled at us for 30 min for not putting in enough effort. Webworks are alright, but sometimes it seems he doesn't teach the full material but go to office hours and he's good.
Be ready to re learn everything you've ever done in math. If you don't do things the way he does it, you will receive basically no credit. Also, don't try to compromise with him; he only goes with what is best for him.
He is very awkward and it makes you uncomfortable. He is not understanding that not everyone is amazing at math. It's his way or the highway. The study guides he creates don't go along with the tests and quizzes. I 12/10 recommend taking another teacher if you struggle with math in anyway.
Very clear on his expectations and willing to work with students in and outside of class and made sure they understood the material.
Super hard grader, if you skip any steps in a problem he will award you with marking the whole problem wrong. If you go into office hours, his personality changes and he becomes very rude. Its his way or the highway, and he doesn't realize there can be more than one way of getting an answer. Seriously do not take him.
Imagine that you own a hamster, and all that hamster likes to do is run on his spinny wheel. Well, Dr. Kim is the hamster and math is his wheel. It sounds like more of a good thing than a bad thing. However, his lectures are fast and unforgiving. I walked out of that class every day with more questions than knowledge. Also, he is a VERY toughgrader
Dr. Kim is awesome. He is definitely a goofy guy however he does a fantastic job on explaining everything in detail. If you struggle with math like I do, I recommend taking his class as he has helped me a lot. He does expect things to be done in a particular way however he is extremely clear of what he wants. Hands down my favorite professor.
TAKE HIS CLASSES ONLY BRO
If you think you understand the material, you're doing it wrong. He is very nit-picky with grading and if you don't do it exactly his way, he will take points off. If you took College Algebra in high school, you will be more confused than if you hadn't. There are usually 5 kids in office hours asking for help because moves too fast. Very awkward.
Starts off a good nice professor. Then becomes terribly hard grader. Gets frustrated very easily and does not know how to respond to questions. Hardest class Ive ever taken.
He does not teach well. He teaches like he is teaching a 300 level class and expects you to know everything. He takes the hardest questions of each unit and puts them on the exams. Unless you are in his office every day, you wont pass.
Doing the homework and study guides become harder as the semester goes on, however, those problems are much harder than whats on the quizzes and exams! Overall, best math professor ever!
Want to pass MTH150 on 1 try? DO NOT TAKE DR KIM. HE doesnt actually grade his papers, he scans them into the computer. I lost most of my points on tests and quizzes because I did my work wrong or missed an equal sign, IN MY WORK. Many occasions I got 75% of the question wrong because of my work but the answer was right. Hes not funny
His lectures are dry, confusing, and overall bad. Online math homework is torture! His homework system doesn't work, and as a result his office hours are usually packed (ie. moved into a lecture hall) so have fun asking questions anyway. And when the class struggles, he simply tells you to catch up. Nice guy but weird and not good.
Dr. Kim is one of the strangest people I've taken class with. Great lectures, clear homework schedule, incredibly goofy. Constant office hours that are actually very helpful. You have to be able to adapt to his style somewhat to get the grade you want but quiz and exam topics are explicity stated and practiced in class and on homework.
Edward is a strange guy, but not a bad professor. He tries to help students and encourages asking questions. There is online homework everyday, but these questions are usually harder than test and quiz questions. Weekly quizzes that are one question. He required us to go to office hours, which usually have a lot of people, especially before a test.
I always liked Dr. Kim's lectures, he made fun examples for questions and started class normally with an icebreaker that just had nothing to do with math but was fun and interesting. Would definitely recommend him for MTH 225, it was my favorite class the semester I took it!
Dr. Kim is one of thee kindest people you will ever meet. Yes there is homework, but he is willing to help. His notes were easy to follow and he really tried to keep math interesting!! Sometimes he got defensive when you would ask questions, but that was only occasional.
Dr. Kim is one of the best math teachers I have ever had in my life. He is an extremely understanding professor and he explains things very thoroughly. He is a goofy professor and will make a lot of jokes during lectures. All of his quizzes and exams are very manageable, there are never any surprises.
I was super nervous going into Calc 3, but Dr. Kim made it much better, it was maybe even a little fun. He made really good videos that were surprisingly effective, given that I know I can't learn as well online. There's a homework assignment and a quiz every week, which seems like a lot, but is super manageable and really helps understanding.
I had him as a hybrid class this semester. Homework due every day of class you have 2 days after their assigned to do them so you can ask questions in class. He was always checking up on us and genuinely cares about our health. He encourages mistakes and asking questions. Good class if you have basic math skills.
Dr. Kim was an amazing professor. I feel when it comes to calc, it is going to be difficult to find an "easy" class. He will assign a lot of homework, notes, and has regular quizzes and live labs. Though that sounds horrible, it allows you to actually learn much better. He is an amazing guy who cares and you will learn!
a good professor in the sense that you will understand the material. I took this class online and he required us to directly copy all of the notes from the lectures and submit them at the end of the week. Youll do more work than necessary for a 5 credit class. Overall: soul sucking I dont recommend his online sections but hes not a bad professor
His Mathematics for Business class has be far more work than other general I have taken. Homework every night that isn't covered in lecture. He will get frustrated and start yelling if you don't understand it "his" way and take it out on you. Not very clear on processes. Overall, one of, if the not the worst class I've ever taken.
Dr Kim is a nice guy but he gets very off track during lessons and takes forever to get things graded. You have homework everyday, individual and group quizzes, and no tests but you do have mini cases. You need to show up to class if you want to understand the material. He's not the worst but not the best by any means.
Dr Kim is nice but gets way too off track and over explains everything. Don't bother going to office hours because it'll take him an hour to do 1 problem with you. Also, be prepared to get 20 minute talks about covid every day and don't dare take your mask off or he'll freak. The class itself wasn't bad. He's not the worst but not the best at all.
It helps a lot to get help during his office hours. Make sure to do the webworks as they are assigned because quizzes are given out every week. Make sure to go to classes bc new topics are covered everyday.
Dr. Kim taught the course well but he wasnt my favorite professor mainly because he would cancel class if someones mask would fall below their nose. It was always annoying how many times in class he would talk about giving warnings about masks. Hes a decent grader though.
Dr. Kim is super energetic. Maybe that’s a good thing for some students but we had a 7:45am class and it became seriously irritating. He was short with students sometimes and didn’t grade a majority of the projects in the class until very late so I didn’t quite know what my actual grade was. The quizzes were 10 points per question.
Dr. Kim is a funny guy, but overall his class was difficult. Homework was often much tougher than in class problems and his grading criteria for finally projects was not very clear. I lost points on final projects even though I followed the rubric. Overall an okay professor and you will most likely be able to succeed as long as you complete work.
He was not very good with his online class at all. Homework and other problems were not like his examples at all. He took forever to return grades so I did not know what I was doing wrong ever. Would not recommend.
Mr. Kim is a very personable human being, and his lectures back that up. He tries to make math fun, relatable, and comprehensive. He will apply all of the math to real life and make sure everyone understands what's going on. There is a lot of webwork to do, so stay on top of it. Otherwise, the quizzes are easy points to cushion your overall grade.
He is nice he just over explains concepts and the webwork questions doesn't always match up with the work we do in class
Edward Kim is a professor who is very passionate about teaching. This being said this course is not designed to be easy and is not good for students who are lazy. Homework everyday, quizzes every week, and additional assignments. Dr. Kim wants his students to pass, so the ways that things are graded makes it very difficult to get below a C.
Class is purely lecture but if you skip you will be lost. Daily online homework and weekly in class quiz. Homework and quizzes can be extremely hard at times. Dr. Kim is a great person and understands absences. He is also available outside of class but is a tough grader. If you are willing to put in the hours you can receive an A.
Dr. Kim was an amazing for MTH 309. He did lectures every day and you'll be lost if you do not go. A homework assignment, mini, and quiz each week. Four total exams. The exams were hard, but doable if you really understood content. He is a great person and professor. I will miss this class. Go to office hours! He is there to help you, and he does.
He was too quick with lectures, had way too much content at a hard-to-keep-up pace, and was not understanding at all. Dr. Kim was condescending, and made me feel uncomfortable asking for help. Additionally, his lectures are TOO WORDY! To the point where it's hard to understand where we are in the lesson. I would not take Dr. Kim again.
Moves way too fast through lectures. Your hand will be hurting as you will take no writing breaks for 60 minutes(always go over time). Webworks is so stressful to use, the content we are learning does not belong on this website. Quizzes are always on old information, making it IMPOSSIBLE to study, do homework and review.
Edward explains everything to the T. You just gotta show up to class and put a little bit of effort into homework and its a fun experience!
During my time take Edward Kim's class, I noticed the grading scale is completely offensive. The weekly quizzes have 10 points a question, with some questions having 2 step to it. No empathy towards students. Was told "I'm not midwest nice" in office hours. Seems like failing students is one of his hobbies. I really would recommend avoiding him.
Slow grader. Miss one class and you'll be lightyears behind with NO forgiveness. Tried to ask questions about content but got accused of not trying and cheating. Majority of class fails every quiz and he blames it on us using Chegg. I dont wanna hear a joke after getting a 5/30 on the quiz.
He starts out as a decent professor but as the semester goes on you start to hate him. His grading is difficult because getting one small thing wrong can lead to a bunch of points off. He's a nice enough guy and wants to help. But, he can move pretty fast in lectures, but as long as you pay attention it's not too hard. Homework every day though.
Great professor with good help during office hours. But the way he grades is absurd sometimes and you wont get credit at all on a problem if the foundation is not correct.
First of all, know that Calculus II is a incredibly hard class no matter who you take. That being said, Dr. Kim made it a lot easier. He provided practice exams and practice quizzes that were really similar to the actual exams and quizzes. He also had quite a few office hours that you could go to for help, although, they were usually pretty busy.
Overall very nice and understanding professor. He wants the best for his students. He can be a little cringe sometimes but you can usually laugh through it. If you went to class and did the homework the tests were manageable. One of the best options for this course.
Dr. Kim starts out as a good professor but over time as the material got more difficult he would fly through the material. Did not help much during office hours and made you feel very dumb for asking him a question. Blamed our class for averaging low.
Started off as a really nice professor but then would get mad if you went into office hours to ask questions. MTH 225 is so different than other math classes which he acknowledged, but made everything harder than it needed to be which contradicted what he was saying. Stay away from him if you can and don't take the class if you don't like proofs.
Very corny, picked favorites... I was not one.
Professor would talk to us like children, and took forever to talk about basic things. Felt like i was back in middle school.
He is really good at explaining things but is an extremely hard grader.
Pretty nice tbh
Good math professor grades a little hard, but expectations are clear.
Be prepared to have lots of homework and even though attendance isn't mandatory, you should still go because you'll be lost if you don't
Dr. Kim is so fun! He made MTH150 fly by with laughs and "terrible" jokes. He's always upbeat and loves to show pictures of his dog. He explains very well and will not be afraid to offer help if needed and is very persuasive on coming to office hours if needed! I 100% recommend.
The professor can move quickly through lectures, but staying engaged is key. Homework and quizzes are challenging, so using unstuck study and other study tools helps. While strict, the professor is willing to work with students who put in the effort.
This class was not necessarily challenging, but had a very picky grading system. Tends to take points off for not doing things his exact way, even if what you are doing isn't wrong. Often picks favorites in his class (easy to tell if you aren't a favorite).
Honestly, if you go to classes and do the materials he gives you, this class will be a breeze. Weekly quizzes, with full study guides, and daily homework. Gives a full mock exam for you to work on. Very caring and understanding. Can be a very picky grader at times though.
Dr. Kim is supportive and dedicated to helping students truly understand the material. While he can seem a bit aggressive during office hours, it's clear he just wants us to grasp the concepts. He explains thoroughly and gives detailed feedback, which is very helpful. The packet he made was great to help organize the content for the semester.
He should not teach this class or any higher level math classes. His teaching style is for students who don't understand math at all and grades really tough even is you get the question right. He wants you to do it his way or it is not completely right and will take off points. If you enjoy math this is not the professor to take.
Dr. Kim is a very good math professor. He teaches you the correct way to do things and expects that you do that on the quizzes and exams (notation and such). He gives great study guides for quizzes and tests and has homework daily based on the material in class that day. 10/10 would recommend.
His class was pretty good. I struggled in Math 150 and I passed this class easily with and AB. He gives quizzes everyweek and if you don't use the method he wants to solve it he will mark them wrong which is frustrating but other than that he's a easy grader for the group projects and no final.
