cool guy, very interesting teacher, has a great sense of humor. tests are medium in difficulty. very good teacher
He's alright. You won't learn much so hes not suggested for FIN majors, SERIOUSLY TRUST ME on that. He easily confuses himself and then resorts to making jokes to pass the time. First two exams are alright. The Final leaves you wondering where did this material come from cause it wasnt in our notes!
If you want to learn something-don't take him.Test are not difficult but you have to study from the book.He talks a lot in the class, but then on the test you wonder where the questions come from. Have no clue how to teach, gets confused by himself ,as a fin major-a learn nothing!!!
He's a nice guy, funny, tells alot of jokes. He never uses the board, only talks, so learn to write fast!!! Tests are from notes and book, so know both, 40-50 Mult. Choice questions per exam. Final is cumulative. 2 versions of each exam..same exact questions, different order..My avg 85, gave me C+
He is a nice guy,but his tests are quite hard and it is impossible to pass!!
He is a great professor. His lectures is what u will see on exam. Few questions from the book. He reads u previous semester exams during review. Just listenand write as fast as u can. You will see most of them on your exam. His lectures are very interesting. Plus he gives you a choice weight all 3 exams equally or drop one and weight final for 60%
Prof. Malca is really nice and wants his students to do well. Even though it isn't small class, but it seems he care for everyone. I think he explaines very well, and so far the grades overal seems high.
I have to say very nice professor. You have 2 midterms and a final, easy exams most of the questions on the exams concept, few calculations. Take him he is the best.
He is very nice. Entertaining and very easy. You have to read the book to understand the material, but he does more than a decent job in explaining it to you. Very nice and highly recommended!
He is a very easy professor, but he teaches well. I think the most important thing is that he is very down to earth. He worked as a financial advisor, but now he is a dentist, so he has lived in the world and he brings that realism to the class.
the guy is great, teaches for fun. He is also a DDS. the class is fun, and fairly easy, would recommend

This Professor is by far one fo my best at Baruch, Fair and down to earth but he looks for the best interest of his students as a teacher should. Although his class is only wed, his class makes up for it. Def take, you wont be disapointed, read the textbook and you should get a high grade.
Well everything has been said about him. He is a good guy but often confuses himself. You will be tested on concepts more than formulas. 3 multiple choice tests--learn only the formulas he goes over in class but do read all the bold concepts on the book. Easy A if you try. Easy B if you do not.
He is very down to earth and well rounded. He doesn't read off the book but you should definitely read it. Go to his lectures because some of the questions in his tests are not from the book. Easy A if you do really good in final. One of the best out of the other Finance professors.
Yes,he's easy, but you won't learn anything.Horrible diction, refuses to use a microphone or power points.Jumps from topic to topic, very chaotic, uses the same examples over and over.3 mc test, seems easy, but doesn't curve.no way to boost your grade beside that.Corny and full of himself. However, students seems to like him for his "whatever" attitude.
I love him. :)He is very funny. His lectures are entertaining. The tests are not hard at all. A lot of materials require common sense which I don't really need to read the whole book. Strongly recommend
He is great. He really teaches. He knows that u need to know the meaning more than just memorizing formulas. He is excellent! I highly recommend.Very funny also and very realistic person.
One of the BEST professors in Baruch College. Very knowledgable! explains things in a way that every1 can understand. He really wants ppl 2 understand the concept and not memorize a bunch of formulas.. very funny.. taught me a lot. I wish all professors were like him. Easy A if you just pay attention in class.. and u would want 2 pay attention!!
Economics was not my subject but he made it really interesting. The best part, I still remember whatever he taught in the class. More than teaching formulas he focuses on concepts and makes you understand the subject. Really fun to be in his class and clarity. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - thought of getting B but got A-, not bad!!!!!!
he was great... very friendly...i hate the subject and he made it interesting..teaches very well the best eco professore i ever had...
Great Professor. He is funny and makes the material interesting. There are 3 exams which are relatively easy since he tells the class what to study for. Exams are conceptual and simple calculation based. He will definitley boost your GPA. Take him.
He is great. Does a really complete review of micro in the beg, and explains all concepts well. he is funny and doesnt give hard tests. tells you want is going to be on the test which is really helpful. He is a really smart man... put in a bit of work and you will get an A. He goes a little fast with the slides but if you pay attentions its ok
By focusing in concepts rather than formulas, this professor makes a difference. I really learned, and he convinced me that finances are easy and fun to learn if you have a good teacher like him.
It is not a free an "A" class. The tests are somehow difficult. You have to know the all terms that are in the text book. He spoke about 10sec on the specfic topic and it was on the test. If you want to get "A" take down the notes and go over every single details that he went over. He is Funny. I wanna be like him though
This is one of the best professors I ever had. This guy knows his class and talks as clear as the water. He makes the subject very interesting. You dont need the book if you are a good listener. Every thing he says gets stuck in your head. He also makes the class fun with really goods jokes. Exams are fair.
Easy professor. Most of the questions he put on the test were in the course documents. Not that many terms to memorize, a long with him using the same questions. It was a very easy A.
Very easy professor. Study the course documents MC before every test. Most of the material is from textbook or slides. Attendance can be avoided by telling Joe (attendance taker) your seat number and letter before class and leaving. Take him for easy A.
not easy at all u have to studynothing is easy but if u study u can do well he is good prof
i love this professor!!! his class is easy. take him!!! easy A
I LOVE MALCA!! GREAT TEACHER. KEEPS YOU UPDATED ON CURRENT EVENTS. TESTS ARE EASY. HE'S VERY NICE AND SMART. TAKE HIM FOR MACRO.
I hated my microeconomics class but coming to Malcas class he got me interested in macro instead. He's funny and keeps up with what's going on in the news. His exams are easy. Most of the stuff comes from the book.
BEST PROFESSOR AT BARUCH! (If you don't like him, you shouldn't be a finance major)
Seriously man this guy is horrible!! he doesnt teach you anything that will be on the test. Makes you read what is not covered in class and that investment book is not easy to understand. Avoid b/c you wont learn anything and when its time for the final, your out of luck
I LOVE PROF MALCA!! he will keep you interested in the class. very knowledgeable, extremely helpful when you have questions, tests are easy. every test has a few current events questions which are easy, especially if you come to class (he starts every class with current events). i would take him again in a heartbeat. and he's funny!
ruined my grade because he gave a really tough final exam which he did not curve. the first two exams were easy and he made an impression that the final as gonna be just as easy but it was hard and it screwed my gpa.
Easy B work for an A....all you need to do is read the definitions/terms in the textbook ...take notes when he talks about current events in class....[he will test you on this...so take notes] ....got an A...recommend him!
He knows his stuff, but a little messy. I wish covered fewer concepts and explained them better. To do good in his tests read the book and listen to his brief reviews. The tests are mainly conceptual and not hard. Use your intuition and common sense. 'A' is doable. You will also learn quite a lot about the current events and he is funny.
He's a great prof. Makes the class interesting. 3 exams, 2 worth 30% and final worth 40%. Dont have to take notes everything comes from ppt slides available online.
good and friendly, easy going and good advisor. try to help students
ok... his take on current events is awesome.... problem... he spends most of his time on current events and none on the material. And when he goes over material, he sort of rushes through it and skims it. I learned nothing about the portfolio theory that I did not already know. Terrible if you want to eventually sit for the CFA Overall hes just ok.
easy professor. find someone with old test exams youll be fine. attendance is not mandatory. funny guy.
Easiest one for 3710. 2 midterms and a final, all MC. Attendance taken by sign in sheet. He focuses mostly on definitions/concepts and simplifies things by cutting out all the statistics/calculations in the material. Spends at least 30 min. per class talking financial news, but only 4 questions from current events are on each exam. Bad textbook.
Loved the class, he made it very interesting and he was sooo funny
Easy class.2 midterms and 1 final. just attend classes and follow what he says.current events are important. nice professor.easy A.
Compare to the other professors you usually have, he would be considered funny if you understand business jokes. You must read to textbook to get good grades. His test are easy, you don't have to remember all formulas, just some. I would definitely recommend people to take him.
I thought I was doing good from the first two midterms. But the final was crazy hard. I learned a lot though so if you wanna learn go ahead and take him listen to everything he say because most of his exam question is from he discuss in class
This professor seems to be easy but his final was extremely hard.
2 mid+final, all MC.Easy for a 3000class.Extremely funny.Udnt actually learn much but easy A.He should bea Bizman, not an academia.Often confuse u more when u have questions so u better study urself.Ignore lots material in textbook so u wont be tested on those things.Give u a review b4 exam, which helps a bit.Overall easy but not much learned.
Pretty good professor but tests are hard. He doesn't curve. My first B from Finance classes;-(
Malca has found a way to make interesting. He makes an effort to connect relevant current events into the lecture. Good lecturer, emphasizes conceptual understanding (as opposed to mathematical)on his 2 midterms and final.
he talks alot.. i mean alot.but half of them has nothing to do with the chapter. you have to read the book before the test!!!! otherwise the tests will be very difficult for u. but overall he is a fun guy.
guys awesome.. slides in class and textbook are what you need to pass tests.. thats all he gives
He's probably the best macro professor you can find in Baruch. Lectures in a pretty interesting manner that keeps students listening and learning. Easy B as long as you listen in class and do a little reading. If you want an A then you have to do lots and lots of reading and studying. Overall very cool guy and funny at times.
He's funny. He'll let you sleep--but not snore! The class is pretty easy, just try to study a little more than the night before and youll have an A.
Amazing Professor, in class you don't know how time passes so quickly. I learned a lot and this guy actually makes Macro-eco interesting and fun. Three tests make up the grade so do practice tests for recitation and you will be fine. The book isn't necessary, you can find the slides he uses online and follow along with lectures.
Great professor. Really knows the materials, conveys and teaches very clearly. You can find the slides online. IF you understand what he is talking about in class you shouldn't have a problem on the tests. I never even opened the textbook just used the slides.
Very easy and funny professor. Make sure you take good notes on current events, or you'll miss several questions (~2-5) on each exam.
I LOVE this professor!!! Not only will you pay attention in his class you will enjoy his lectures too because he is hilarious. His tests are pretty easy just go over his old exams and powerpoint. He is going to tell you to read the NY times but don't even bother cause he goes over the current events for the test at beginning of class. He is amazing
One of the best professors at Baruch. Very smart guy, the only class where you actually learn something and it's relevant. He goes over current events and explains them thoroughly. He has everybody laughing each class, and makes the material enjoyable. The tests were extremely .easy, class average was around 82%. A lot of people aced the tests.
no comment,very dissapointed
Professor Malca is an excellent teacher. very smart and funny, we laughed all the time at his jokes in class. He knows how to grab the attention of his students. His exams are based on the book, slides, and classroom discussions. Pay attention to current events in the economy, he likes to discuss them a lot . If you want an A definitely attend clas
Professor Malca is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is funny, knowledgeable, and easy going. His exams are based on study guides (which you will be provided with in recitation class) and if you study those, you will get a good grade. Take him!
Malca is one of the most inspirational professors I've ever had. He is funny, intelligent, and keeps you up to date not just with macro, but with what is going on in finance now. The class structure is a little disorganized, but he's the best eco professors at Baruch
Prof Malca is great! He is very intelligent he teaches us not only the principles but also the on going eco and political issues, which he discusses the relevant into the course. At the beginning of class, he suggests us to order Wllstreetjournal. I wasn't sure if it is useful but I purchased anyway And its helpful.Hes very down to earth to answer
great prof
An amazing professor. Just listen in class and be interested. Don't really need textbook if you do that since tests are easy. Macro economics is more conceptual so just listen and ask questions in the class. Doesn't require you to go to recitation. He's funny and passionate about what he teaches. Wonderful professor to have.
i had him for the beinning half of this semestr and he was great. today we found out that we have a sub (dr. henry) who is absolutely terrible.
Malca is a very knowledgable professor, he is always keeping us up to date about the current events, but when it comes to the actually test materials youre gunna have to rely on your recitation teacher more. Even tho he left us in the midst of the semester its nice to know that hes healthy again.
Professor Malca posseses great knowledge in economics & I truly enjoyed his lectures.Troughout the semester, he kept us updated with current events wich generated interesting discussions. I absolutely recommend him & his exams are extremely fair if you take notes during his lectures!
very sweet & funny professor. He knows his stuff & his lectures are great, but make sure you keep up with the current events. highly recommend.
If you like to talk or text, don't go to this class, he is old school, which is preferable for me, he should be taken literally more seriously about how students should act like adults, his class is fair, he doesn't review for exams, but he does mention in class test questions and parts he focuses on uses real world events as a teaching method
This guy is amazing! very funny, extremly interesting, midterm and final, though this was summer, easy A. I would beyond recommend, i assure their few teachers this good. Also he stays after class if you ever need explanations. And the guy below me is wrong their was a review before the midterm, and before the final
Took him over the summer. 1 midterm(40%)/1 final(60%). No hw. You can get someone to sign u in. He's very informative and funny. Very engaging. An A is doable but due to the percentages, you can't afford to only do decently for an A. You have to do really well on all the tests. Overall, he is one incredible professor. Extremely knowledgeable!
I listened to his lectures plus many useful tangential stories throughout summer '12 semester. I did minimal readings of the textbook material and selective readings on the WSJ. I occasionally dozed off in class as well (not 'cause of him but 'cause I'm tired). All of these combined got me to an A- at the end. Take him.
Reminds me of George Carlin. Very funny and can learn a lot from his humor. Was an absolute pleasure.
He is good prof. there are only 1 midterm and final. he likes to put economic news in the exam, so you have to read the newspaper. he doesn't like to write blackboard, so you have to be good english listening. if english is your 2nd language, take care, me too, so I try very hard, but only get B+. anyway, he is a very good prof!
Took him over the summer. He is very interesting to listen to. But HE IS ALL OVER THE PLACE, and his train of thought is very hard to follow. We had one midterm which was fairly easy, but he made a final super hard! So everyone did bad. I got a B in the class, my GPA was 4.0 prior to that :( U do have to study hard unless u understand basic ECO well
Taking him now and had him for macro. He is a great guy,but TERRIBLE at teaching. He barely knows what's in the textbook, makes tons of mistakes while lecturing,if u know ur stuff it's confusing. To get a good grade DO NOT use notes, read a textbook.People who skipped classes did better on 1st test.2 midterms(30% each) & a final(40%)-test bank & 10Q t/f
Class is easy. He spends the first 15 minutes talking about current events. Pay attention to those, they WILL be on the test. Everything else you can learn from Aplia and by skimming the textbook. He tries to be fun but is actually really boring.
Take him if you have a chance If not, don't take Macro til u have a seat for this prof 2 midterms 1 final and online home works. that't it. Take him
This professor talks a lot, which was something I thought I would hate, but he actually makes class really interesting with info. about macroeconomics in the news. It made me more knowledgable. Exams include multiple choice and T/F questions. Read textbook on your own bc he doesn't teach it thorough enough, but material isn't that hard to understd
Good professor. Can explain difficult issues in easy words. Teaches you to analyse. Makes it interesting. Must take.
Malca is a great professor but you really can't enjoy him as a professor if you don't listen to what he has to say and participate in what hes says. Hes a breath of fresh air in comparison to all the other teachers. lot of fun, nothing is structured and instead the class focuses on real-life Macro. You'll have to study and take notes. thats a must.
He is a very intelligent and interesting professor. Just listen his lectures-take notes (on the current news as well) and read the textbook. His tests are fair-you'll not see anything that was not in the textbook or on his lectures. The best!
Overall, he is a good professor. He makes things easy to understand. He talks alot about current events and put that on the exams and that makes the exams a bit tricky. Other than that, exams are pretty straightforward. 2 midterms, 1 final and online homework. He is also very funny and a pretty nice guy.
Professor Malca is a highly respectable man. His lectures are relevant and he gives you numerous amounts of financial advice plus real world tips. The exams are not easy. You must study, you must listen. Focus on getting above a 95 on the first 2. I came down to a course average of a 92.23. Should have gotten an A, but regardless, excellent class!
Best professor ever! Going to class is mandatory and you have to pay attention, the bulk of his exams are from his lectures. You have to read the textbook in order to get an A, but you learn about economics. Actually enjoyed class. If his class is available DEF take it.
Didn't get the best grade because of the slack of work I did but that is no reason to discriminate against Malca. He was an amazing professor because not only was he funny but also very educating. Make sure you attend every class as his tests come from his lectures and textbook.
The Worst! I heard he is good for Eco, but for Finance - stay away!. he only talks about the market. you will be force to self-teach yourself and learn all complex formulas yourself. he doesn't go over any calculations. He is the worst Finance professor EVER!
Prof Malca is my monopoly man, i love him. He is adorable and very humorous. His tests are a bit hard because the questions are tricky but if you just take notes in his class and read the textbook you should be fine. He drifts off topic a lot but he keeps you entertained. And try to talk to him after class so he knows who you are by name trust me
He is such a sweet and kind man! He is very knowledgable and will explain everything you need to know for the exams. You do need to study the book and notes, but the exams are very straight forward. He is the best prof to take in a lecture hall, TAKE HIM.
This professor is funny, doesn't take things too seriously. Attendance is only taken in the beginning of the semester. You wont need the textbook. Take him!
Yes, he is funny but it will help if he actually finish his sentences when he speaks. Also, double check what he said with the textbook because he is not always right. Overall, he is an entertaining professor but you have to read the textbook to do well.
he doesn't curve! the three exams are easy but you can't afford to make a mistake. my second exam was below 31/38 and the 37/40 and 44/46 couldn't cover it up. got A-, cry
Good sense of humor, keeps you entertained during class but his lessons don't coincide with the book.
Intelligent and Funny Professor. Has funny jokes, and knows the subject well. Must study and read textbook to do well. Only downside is that he doesn't curve at all. Must take class. Got an A-.
He was a great professor. his exams were not too difficult and i appreciate that he didn't overly rely on formulas to teach the class but instead stressed theories. in the end, the material stuck longer and was more applicable to future classes. overall, recommend.
The lecture is fairly interesting and he likes to incorporate current events. The tests can be tricky even if you study a lot. Two exams, a final, aplia homework every week, and recitation. I didn't like the TF questions on the exam, but it's not impossible. Make sure you study and attend lecture! The homework helps a bit.
He makes a big lecture class pleasurable as his jokes are pretty funny. 3 tests and weekly aplia assignments. He does not provide slides so you must take notes while he speaks or find a way to get the slides. He also does not curve tests nor the course grade. There are some tricky questions and the tf are tough. Overall though, recommended.
Nice guy, cracks a lot of jokes. Two midterms, one final. All multiple choice and truefalse. The tf questions have two parts that both need to be true for the whole question to be true. Read the textbook thoroughly and listen during lectures because anything he says or you read can possibly be a question on his test.
He is a great person, with great stories. He doesn't really follow the textbook, the tests are based on his lectures which focus on current events or stuff he wants to talk about, which makes studying for the test a little difficult. Take notes on what he says instead of the textbook.
Well this semester he was absent for a month due to surgery. So the 2 midterms became just one. For our class, we had one midterm and one final. Whichever exam you have the higher grade is your grade for the semester. Our semester was different due to his absences but his exams were pretty standard. No so much formulas more concepts.
He's a very funny professor&keeps the class entertaining but he does not teach the material You MUST buy the text book so that you can TEACH YOURSELF THE MATERIAL&stay on top of it because his tests cover a lot of material he has never taught in class Don't buy the online thing just teach your self the material &keep up with current events.
To be honest, he is nice, very thoughtful of his students and has good words of advice. However, his teaching is very repetitive and his exams DO NOT reflect the textbook material. To some extent of course it does, but don't read too extensively into the material given. I studied way to hard yet the material i studied wasn't on the exam.
Nice guy, decent professor. Unfortunately our semester wasn't really conventional since he was out for a month so we didn't learn everything we were supposed to. He doesn't really follow the textbook during lecture, but the questions come from there so make sure you can do them. Oh, and don't be late to class.
Ruined my straight A's. Was absent half the semester and grade based on one exam. Lectures are bull and do not focus on all exam materials. Had to teach my self and the curb isn't very helpful toward helping you.
Amazing professor, If you want to learn and enjoy reading you will be fine. Show up to class stay on top of current events.
Make sure to get to class on time to listen to the current events that he'll test you on. Take notes on everything he says, especially when he reviews for the exams. Skim the textbook. Overall, a passionate teacher that enjoys teaching, but can be confusing with some definitions and concepts and he'll mix some words up. Final harder than midterm.
The textbook was rather useless it seems. In the summer semester, I took 74 pages of notes from his lectures, and studied those only. His exams are not overly difficult, but they are smart. They require an understanding of the material, which if you just pay attention in class, is rather simple. Pay attention, show up to every lecture easy A
The textbook is not important whatsoever. Took 74 pages of notes in the summer semester and studied those alone and got an A. You must show up to all of his lectures, take vigorous notes, and you will pass easily. The material is not hard as long as you pay attention, he explains everything in depth.
He was a great professor. Professor Malca kept the class engaged and was very clear about most of the topics. The final is far more difficult than the midterm but if you study you'll do just fine.
Great professor. I took his macro class over the summer. If you go to class and pay attention, there's no reason shouldn't get an A in this course. Pay attention to current events in the beginning of class as they will appear on exams. Must take.
Took him because he was recommended, but did not like him at all. His voice makes the lectures extremely boring and he goes off in tangents so even if I wanted to take notes, I can't. Also there's only a minimal curve. Do not recommend.
Malca is one of the greatest professors I have ever had, even though I got a B. He teaches with such enthusiasm and passion for the subject. He makes everything extremely easy and dumbed down. Had him for the summer and he went easy on us. One midterm one final. Final was tough. Expect to keep up with current events (q's on exams) & READ the txtbk
hard grader, scored a 94 for midterm and a 84 for final. got a B+ in the end, think twice.
This man is the cutest and most amazing professor I have ever had in my 3 years of Baruch. Such a sweet and kind individual. Loves his students and loves his job! TAKE ANYTHING HE TEACHES
Very nice, he's so passionate about economics. Keep track of current events/economics because he discusses those often. My class had 2 midterms and a final, and these alone made up the entire grade so if you're test-nervous maybe you should look elsewhere. There is no homework. Some lecture topics are not in the textbook so always attend class.
Good professor but class is all over the place most of the time.
He's a nice guy, but a terrible teacher. I took a 3 hour class every Friday. 2 MidTerms + 1 Final. Super tough tests, not too much reading. But he goes off tangents in class and doesn't thoroughly cover the material. Only take him if you are great at self-study and have a genuine interest in macro.
I just couldn't get used to his way of testing. No online stuff. Ur grade is what u get for 2 mids (30% 1) & a final (40%). Very little or No curves. u gotta listen, which is not easy bcoz he goes off topics a lot. U can't get an A by just reading the book. His tests r designed that way. Take good notes, u might need them.
He is an ok professor. You have to pay attention in order to do good, the textbook isn't enough. There are 2 tests and the final, no homework or extra credit. It's tough because if you do bad on one test you have to do really well on the others. Overall, take him if you're willing to just focus and take plenty of notes.
Class was never boring, enjoyed every minute of it. He is not the most detailed professor when it comes to solving finance related calculation yet he focuses on the most important topics and delivers them in an interesting way. In addition he tries to make students relate topics to current economical/financial events. Class wasn't too difficult.
Very manipulative professor. Will try to impress all student with his funny talk but at the end he will give you the exam that you least expected. Trust me guyz if you want to save your gpa, take someone else Otherwise you'll be kept in dark until test. Thank you for reading this. Hope this help atleast 1 student.
Prof Malca is one of those teachers that actually cares that you learn something about the world we live in and not useles knowledge just so you can get into Zicklin. Yes, you have to show up to class and listen to his lectures and take notes to get A's, but it's actually a great class. You can still pass if you don't attend. Recommend completely.
Your grade is determined by 2 exams.... It's either you know it or not...
For the final grade, he just averaged the two exam scores. You never get the exam back, so you can't ever fix your mistakes. He doesn't take attendance or anything else into consideration, so do really well on both exams and maybe you'll get an A.
Worst professor ever..... PLz stay away from him. midterm and a final. NOthing helps.
Correction *the worst professor on campus* This professor is a CLOWN and he doesn't take anything serious. Stay away from him at all cost. If your student looking to lower their GPA, this is the perfect option for you and get ready to fail...
The way he speaks makes it very hard to understand him unless you sit all the way up front. His lectures are long and boring. 2 exams: a midterm (worth 40% of grade) and a final (worth 60% of grade). No attendance taken but you must show up to class to do well on the tests since he covers current events
You can barely understand what he says sometimes b/c he mumbles. he was awful and bad0
Only take this class if you're a good test taker and you MUST attend lectures. I went to all his lectures, took notes, and I still don't understand half the things he said. And make sure to sit near the front if you want to hear him. Honestly regret taking this guy; he probably ruined my chances of a perfect GPA.
Hard to understand, Exams are hard because he does not teach half the things on the exam.. only on the true and false, he talks about his life story as a dentist a lot, super boring. I would AVOID him at all cost but if you study a lot on your own, you would do okay to decent. This class is a easy "D" but hard "A". He should retire in my opinion.
Attendance is not mandatory, but you will not pass if you don't show up to class. Malca discusses current events which will show up on the test. Speaking of tests, midterm is worth 40%, final is worth 60%. No homework. He talks about himself more than he does about macro. It's also very hard to understand what he says because of how he talks
40% midterm & 60% final, he talks mostly non-macro economics related stuff and it is extremely hard to understand what he was trying to convey. no homework, no attendance, if you don't go to his lectures, you won't pass. -NO RECOMMEDED
terrible professor with terrible teaching skills and terrible handwriting. don't take this clown. I got an A in Microeconomics, and i get a C+ in macro thanks to this awful professor. If i get A in micro theres no way i should get such a low grade in macro. Do not take this clown
Worst professor ever. He has an accent and if you sit in the middle or toward the back, all you can hear is mumbling. 40% midterm + 60% final. Final is ridiculous. Don't take him... He doesn't know how to teach...
60% final, 40% midterm is a little lit. Must attend every class and take copious notes, do that and read workbook for exams you will be fine. I squeezed an A in this class, unsure why everyone complaining
great teacher, very nice, just got to listen in class and you'll get an A, it all comes down to class would deff take again
summer '15. good prof and a good guy. easy class if u show up and take good notes. if u dont do well its cause ur english is not great and u have bad notes. show up on time to every class & youll pass with minimal studying. i dont know how hes like in regular semester but summer sesh was a breeze. exams are ez and he wants u to do good, no tricks.
Summer section with this professor is hard. If u are a person who does not like to do homework, & be graded by just TWO exams, then take him. you need to attend to every class and take notes till the class is over. For the exams he gives u a review but is not enough. I will recommend you to practice questions of macroeconomic before taking the exam
Took him for the summer session. He's a nice guy, but you need to attend every class to do well because his tests correlate very strongly to his lectures. Midterm 40% and 40 questions, final exam 60% and 50 questions, no extra credit was given. It's not worth it to buy the textbook, just take very good notes, study them, and you should be okay.
40% midterm, 60% final.. Really hard to do well. He may seem like a nice guy, but he doesn't even make the tests, a recitation teacher does and it is hard. You MUST get everything from the lecture written down so I suggest taking a recording and writing notes on it after class. People with a D- / D move to a C, but no other curves for anyone else.
WORST professor ever!!!! Telling jokes more than talking about eco in the lecture. No teaching materials used only talking about nonsense. Grades depend only on exams. Even the teaching assistant from the recitation explains better than he does. No curve for the exams.
Professor Malca is an amazing professor. His lectures are very interesting if you engage. The exams are very easy if you read the textbook and take notes in class. True and false on exams and easy multiple choice. 3 exams two worth 30% each and the final worth 40%. No homeworks! All the exams have the around the same amount of questions.
I got a B+ in the class because I messed up on the midterms and carried my grade back up with an A on the final, but despite the difficulty of a test heavy class, this professor's lectures are amazing and made me lean heavily towards becoming an economics major. You learn a lot about the real world, no homework, would recommend!
I don't think you will learn a lot from his class. I learn everything by myself. You really need the book to understand this course. To be honest his test is easy if you read the book and memorize stuff. If you are not a self study person don't take him.
Midterm and Final only things that count. Didn't go to the recitation. Tests have some current events, not too hard. Understand the concepts and you can more or less do well on his test. I read the textbook and had to really study for exams but overall not too bad. Be prepared to study tho and make sure you know what he says in class hands down.
Although he's a very enthustiac professor I should've trusted the reviews on here more. If you mess up even one of the exams you really are screwed. Recitation helps but they do not make the exam Malca does. He doesn't care about his students and does not offer any type of extra credit. So study on your own, read textbook and ask a lot of questions
Tests were very difficult for me, as I also went to office hours. Went through slides very quickly and hard to understand.
Terrible communication skills. Took a week to reply back to my emails. Professor Edward does NOT reach out to student who need help. Also, it took him about 1 week after school starts to put out the syllabus which did not even mention his myeconlab access code. I highly recommend not taking him even if it was a life or death situation.
To reply to last person he doesnt use myeconlab, he teaches real econimoics therefore goes day by day news and you didnt pay attention. smh. and he talks to students after class.
No attendance mandatory. However, his lectures are awesome and what he speaks of in class is what is on the test. NO HOMEWORK just the midterm and the final. If you read the chapters he provides and attend his lectures you'll be fine. He relates most of the topics with real life and gives current events examples. Amazing professor!
Amazing Professor. His classes are so interesting that it makes you to attend every class. His topics are related to current events. I really dont understand all this negative reviews. Of course when you sleep during his class dont expect to do well. I enjoyed each class and learned a lot ! read the chapters take notes and you will be fine.
Professor Malca is awesome. His classes are very interesting and engaging. You will learn a lot about current events and real life economic scenarios not boring textbook descriptions that's hard to understand. His exams are not hard if you attend every lecture and read the chapters. I enjoyed taking macro with him. I would take him again.
His knowledge is a little bit outdated. Tests are from test bank. Must pay attention in class since what he says, can/will be on the test. easy B.
Prof Malca is great. I learned a lot from just his lectures although his lectures does not cover everything you need to know for the exams. Attend lecture to learn more about current events and the real world and attend recitation to learn about what is in the textbook (ross is great). 60% 2 midterms and 40% final, read textbook and take notes
You need to read the textbook and go to recitations. Professor WON'T cover everything in exams. But the exams will cover his current events part. Professor do curve grades, but the average grade is like 75. And he will curve for the final grade. TA(Ross) is helpful and makes the exams. Although he loves lame jokes, just bear it.
Love prof Malca. As long as you listen to him, getting A is very easy.
Tests are EXTREMELY lecture heavy. I took him for summer so it's actually easier bc we had less chapters than usual. Take everything down and really try to understand the material. He loses himself in thought sometimes so be wary and keep him on track. If u don't understand smth, press him for answers+learn ur vocab from the book for clarification.
The best professor in Baruch for Economics. I didn't buy the book. Just took notes during his lectures. He'll try to explain to you if you have any questions. He's very funny but strict about coming to the class on time. Just read his notes and go to every lecture, you will get an A. I studied only 6 hours in total for whole summer session :)
ECO1002 is basic macroeconomics and Malca's in-class lectures cover what is needed in detail; this course will be boring for students that reads on economics independently. Do not skip class time and actively pay attention so less self-study is needed. The book isn't necessary unless you need more info and even then, internet. All test grades.
No extra or curve. No materials. Easy B+, but hard A. I wouldn't recommend.
just... don't be late. & always know the unemployment rates.
Two midterms worth 30% each and final worth 40%. If you mess up on the first one, you're screwed. He rambles too much.
Professor Malca is one of the few incredible professors I've had at Baruch. He is so funny and always finds a way to keep the class engaged. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you come to class and take notes you'll do fine. No homework, 3 exams. Just come to class and study
The lectures are pretty much irrelevant except for his 10 minute current events stuff that shows up on his tests (infrequently but it shows up). I skipped pretty much every lecture and got notes from people. He gives NO HOMEWORK. Buy the textbook, read the chapters and understand everything you read. Two tests and a final.
Skip class and you won't pass. No homework. Just pay attention to his lecture and take good notes if u want 'B'. Two exams and a final. No extra credit. Don't buy the textbook if u are a good note taker. He sometimes jokes around, so just deal with it.
Easy B, hard A. Do as much as you can.
Some times it can be very hard to take notes in his class because he will go through his slides so quickly and it can be hard to listen to him and take notes at the same time when he goes through it so fast
Do not take him. He teaches false information, 20% of his exams are opinionated, and he just rambles on and on in class and stops sometimes to ask "what was I talking about... oh it doesn't matter anyways". Don't get fooled by his charisma and humor... its to cover up for his lack of knowledge and teaching skills.
Hes, alright. Easy B hard A. Pay attention to class. He rambles a lot so sometimes coming to class seem pointless. But you must know economics by heart for you to get an A. You must really love it and read the textbook religiously. 3 exams 30,30,40. No homework or EC.. doesn't curve so good luck.
malca is one of the better professors at baruch amongst all the robots without personality. funny guy who talks about current events and relates it to the world of finance before he teaches the curriculum. his tests arent too hard and you'll actually enjoy being in class. i wish he taught more finance classes besides just 3710. take him
All you have to do is show up to class and listen to what he has to say. If you're too lazy to do so then just record all his lectures. He makes the subject extremely easy. All conceptual nothing quantitative.
NO HW!! This may works in your favor? 3 exams, which are easy. However, more than half questions in final are T&F, the rest are MC. Overall an super easy class, but I learnt NOTHING about portfolio theory. Do Not Recommend for finance major. I agree someone said before: if you study hard, pay attention to everything he says, easy A. If not, easy B
You need to attend all of the lectures and take careful notes. Don't make the mistake of skipping class just because attendance is not mandatory. I also found that the textbook was useful to gain a better understanding of the topics I was confused about. Tests are all multiple choice and fairly straightforward. Take him but make sure you work hard.
Do not take him. There is no HW or attendance. Only 2 midterms & 1 final. During lectures, he talks about a lot of info that is not from the textbook. If you take him, you HAVE to go to his class because current events he talk about are T/F exam question. Also, going to rec is really helpful especially before the exam.
I have mixed feelings about this professor. He is a great person and very knowledgable and I learn a lot from his lectures but his lectures do not reflect the test! Only the T/F questions do and that makes up 15% of the test. REALLY hard A, easy B. Even if you think you know everything there is to know, there are going to be hard-worded questions.
He talks a lot in his lectures, most of which are not tested. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't go to his lectures, you'll miss some of the stuff he says that ARE on the exams. The test overall is not so difficult as long as you read the slides, but his T/F questions will screw you up if you didn't pay attention in class. No homework.
Professor Malca is a great inspiration to learn about economics. He doesn't want to teach the formulas and calculations but the whole knowledge of macroeconomics. He's hilarious so it was fun going to class. The grades are based on two midterms and a final which are all multiple choice.
One of the very few good Finance professors in Baruch, knows the material inside and out and gives you the real world grasp on things. If you are into heavy blind calculation without understanding the underlying cause of things. AVOID! however, if you actually want to think and see how everything in Finance clicks take him inspiring WSJ is a must!!!
Read the textbook! 2 Midterms and 1 Final. Lectures are important. He will do review sessions of what he covered before exams. Prof. Malca is funny and applies economics to current events - not a boring verbatim textbook lecture. Be on time. Gives a couple T/F questions to help.
he's a good teacher, very funny, but his t/f questions trip so many. don't take him unless you want a B.
Lecture and recitation don't take attendance, but the professor does current events so you're better off appearing in the lecture. Goes through powerpoints and gives plenty of examples, story telling, occasionally tells us test questions. 2 midterms, 1 final. Read the textbook (just find the pdf or hard copy) and you'll do fine.
yes its a bit frustrating to sit through lecture, as the professor constantly goes off on tangents, but he makes up for it with his easy tests. The first had a class average of 90, but the second test was around 75 (he got mad that we weren't taking him seriously after the first test). The final was fine: mostly simple definitions & currents events
Really funny, he doesn't have any power points and he doesn't write much down so you have to pay close attention while in class. If you have him for the 3 hour lecture he gives 30 min breaks 12:20-12:50, perfect time to eat breakfast/lunch. Class average for first two exams was both 79%. He answers any questions you ask and explains them well
Just pay attention and take notes. Tests weren't bad if you studied. He's also a crazy hocker which is hilarious.
Test consist of textbook materials and current events discussed in class, funny teacher, need to study to pass exams, dont need textbook if you show up to class
not a great class, very disrespectful to students. grade is made up of 3 tests, so if you do bad on one you're done for. get test banks from the textbook, because otherwise you'll do poor. bad professor, and NO CURVE. class average on all exams are a c.
He is a great teacher. His lectures are informative and entertaining, and he has a good sense of humor. He discusses current events at the beginning of almost every class, and you have to take notes because he will ask T/F questions about them on exams. He lists out the exact topics that the midterms and final will cover. Definitely take him!
Do not take this guy unless you want a B. Class is disorganized along with his lectures. Tough grader! 2 midterms and 1 final. There goes my gpa .....
2Midterms & 1Final. 80% of his lecture can easily be understood as long as u read the book. This class seems to be easier than Micro however the % equivalent of his exams will pull your grades. i got a raw score of 41/50;31/38 and 38/50 and ended up with a C+. His class definitely drag my gpa. Avoid if u can
THIS CLASS IS TEST HEAVY... 100% of your grade is 2 midterms (60%) and a final, (40%). The tests are on around 7 chapters, and the final is "cumulative", but 70% of it was from the last 3 chapters. He does not curve, and makes that clear from the beginning. If you mess up the slightest bit, you are scrambling. The tests are doable, but also harder.
Listen to his lectures, study practice questions, curves final grade, easy A
Took him for a winter class and grade was based on two test. Midterm was 40% and final was 60%. Just show up and take notes and you will pass. Make sure to go to his review sessions.
TEST HEAVY! However, don't let that scare you from taking his course. He's a gem in Zicklin of business. Each class he shares practical knowledge on current events and historically trends. He actually makes finance fun and interesting. In order to get an "A" in his class you MUST read the textbook! Tests: 100%
Makes his lectures fun & relates them to modern society. Pay attention because a lot of questions on the exam come from his lecture & not the slides. Really understanding if you speak with him. Encourages questions. Will call you out in front of everyone if he catches you talking. Worth taking.
Malca is very easy professor, just show up to class and take notes but ONLY on the things he mentions in class. Theres a textbook but I honestly never used it. Attendance is non mandatory but I advise to go to class and pay some attention. DON'T TALK in class it really irks him. Only 2 test and 1 Final fairly easy if you pay attention. I recommend
Malca is a pretty interesting teacher, however if you want to get an A, don't bother unless you can pay attention to every single word he says in the class and study the textbook and notes weeks in advance. The tests are multiple choice- and there are a lot of tricky questions. If you want a B+, then this is a good class to take
While I am not exactly a huge fan of the fact that your grade in this class is solely based off of one midterm (drops the lowest of the two) and a final, you can easily pull off an A as long as you pay attention and take meticulous notes. If you don't understand something, ask questions and read the textbook (it helps). He's also a pretty nice guy.
Only have 2 exams and the final to determine your grade. He's passionate about the subjects he discusses and doesn't teach from the book or slides, so you have to pay attention to what he says for the exams. Take notes! His energy and dedication show, and he knows how to TEACH and not lecture. Worth taking his class.
Grade is based solely on two exams, no curve. Be mindful about what he said, especially the news session. This man has a very fixed mindset, and the source of his information is undiversified. Students need to think critically to avoid being misled. Studying notes alone is not enough to get an A since 10% of questions are not covered in the final.
Did not enjoy his class at all! It is a lecture heavy class based on two midterms and a final. Take good notes and listen to what he says about the news carefully since his T/F questions are based on what he says in class. Does not curve! This class hurt my GPA.
The class is based on a midterm and final only. He does not curve. There are no slides or homeworks. Tests consist of multiple choice and T/F questions that are based on recent news. You must read the textbook in advance because the lecture does not cover the questions that will be on the tests. He covers concepts but not the calculations.
Very hard professor for 3710. Tests very difficult with questions on material not covered in class. Get ready to memorize the textbook chapters because anything is game in the textbook even if it wasn't mentioned in class.
Bad class. Bad professor. Bad teaching structure. Bad grading system. Just... bad
I thought he'd be an easy professor, but boy was I mistaken. I like to think of myself as a hardworking individual and I've had professors that really made me test my limits, but nothing like this. His exams are extremely difficult and I learned that the hard way after the first one. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to the material.
Cant say a good word. AVOID.
Broo avoid this professor at all costs he is literally so comfortable (in a bad way) bc hes probably been teaching for so long that he doesnt even care about students grades. Your grade is just based on tests alone and he barely makes sense during the lectures bc hes always mumbling on about something irrelevant. Id say only go to recitation
I don't know what the others are talking about, I personally thought Malca was great. His lectures are filled with a lot of knowledge, and he shows that he really knows the stuff. The only real downside is that the course grade is only determined by two midterms and a final (40% two midterm, 60% final), but other than that,I think he's fine.
2 grade components - two midterms and final. Malca seems to be very knowledgeable but I do not do well with his teaching. Tends to mumble, literally only l e c t u r e w/ no presentation. About 20% of each test he gives will be on current events, which cannot be learned through the textbook. If you like just listening and minimal note taking...
Guy wants you to only study from his lectures, but you can't understand more than half the words he says because he mumbles.
Midterm worth 40% Final worth 60%. Occasionally mumbles so it can be difficult to hear him. Most things he says in class rarely pop up in the exams, expects you to know the textbook chapters by heart. Also moves people during the exams when seats free up, insanely distracting when your entire grade is on the line. Avoid.
Professor Malca is is educated and passionate of what he teaches, but honestly he thinks if students do not receive a passing grade on their exams, they arent studying well. He tells them they should change their way of studying, but in reality his tests just are hard and he mumbles during lectures. I would not take this Professor .
He really didnt teach us anything at all because each lecture was just him mumbling into the microphone. I could not hear many things during the lecture and felt like it was pointless for me to even be there. The issue is that the test is based off of what was said in class and we miss a lot of key details because he cant speak coherently. :(
His lecture was disorganized and he didn't even give us a practice exam. So, I didn't know how to study for exams. He just talked a lot and we had to take a note everything in his lecture. 1 midterm exam and 1 final exam, no curve at all
This guy mumbles during lectures and when you ask him to repeat it, he won't repeat it. If you miss one thing he says, prepare to fail. He doesn't curve. Two midterms 40 percent of grade, final 60 percent of grade. Awful grading system and lectures. Avoid at all costs. No practice exams. WORST professor ever.
I got a 90 on the first midterm, 80 on the second midterm, and 90 on the final. So that equals to an A- i guess? (honestly its on sight if i see him) But without any bias, ho to his lectures for the T/F part. He is TEST BANK heavy so if you manage to get blessed with the test bank you'll be fine. If you don't have it,be sure to apply the concepts
Easy professor, don't be fooled by negative reviews. His lectures are very easy to follow and understand. His tests are not that heavy compared to Patrick Tormey's tests. You don't have to memorize definitions for each word by heart. I got a 95 on the first test. Just sit back, listen, and get ready.. to type!
He's a lecture heavy professor but his lectures are pretty interesting. He is very knowledgable and makes the lectures fun/funny. You are only graded on three tests so if you aren't a good test taker I would pass on him. Otherwise I enjoyed his class!
Geez... what a liar. Claimed that he couldnt post zoom lectures on blackboard because of constrictions from Baruch, even though other professors could. Promised that the final would be weighted 70% of the grade, as it combined two exams, but after the final was over he claimed it was weighted equally to the first midterm, which ruined my grade.
I loved professor Malca. He is funny, smart and respected. He doesnt require attendance but the exams are based on what he discusses in class. No book needed, no slides nor quizzes. Pay attention, take good notes, get a Wallstreet Journal subscription and youll get an A.
Just one-sided lectures in class, grading based only on midterms and final. Flexible when classes went online for coronavirus. If you don't like being called upon or singled out, don't sit in the first few rows of seats. Buying the textbook may help, but I found it unnecessary as he mostly tests on lecture material and heavily on current events.
Heavy on the lecture, no hw, LITERALLY NO EXTRA CREDIT not even for the pandemic got 70 on the first exam and 100 on the final and ended up with a B. He promised extra credit since we didnt take a second exam but not at all. He seems like a nice person but how will you not help your students??
this class is prob the easiest class ive taken at Baruch. Everything is just common sense. He is funny so lectures aren't boring. But you really dont even need to attend them. He doesnt take attendence. The test are hilariously easy
He does repeat a lot in his lectures and even though you do need a textbook, you can just pass by listening to what he says, taking notes and reading the WSJ. He does care a lot for his students and his quizzes/final aren't hard at all so its an easy A with a good professor.
Textbook was required but his lectures were sufficient for me so I didn't buy it. He also required Wall Street Journal subscription (it is free for Baruch students, look for link on Baruch website) Be advised, he is not computer savvy and he delivers class via zoom. He assigned 6 quizzes and a final which were all easy. He drops lowest quiz grade.
Extremely heavy on lectures and does not explain the material well at all. There is also no extra credit or curve so if you don't do well then there is really nothing you can do to boost your grade. The grade is based solely on two exams and that is it.
Professor often forgets words, or what he is talking about, I understand he is at a certain age now. He repeats words a lot, suddenly starts talking about something else off the topic. It's hard to focus in his class, I lose him sometimes. Besides that he is good, knowledgable, if you really take notes in his class, the quizzes won't be a problem.
Avoid And dont buy textbook he tests on what he feels like talking about
i had him spring 2020 when we went online halfway through. he's very knowledgeable and passionate about macro. he explains things very simply and literally goes through the midterm during his in class review sessions. also accessible outside of class or after class if u need any help. he makes macro very intuitive
Quizzes take up 60%, the final is 40%. His quizzes are based on his lectures and what he says so pay attention and take notes. He knows what he's talking about and actually makes economics interesting. Definitely an easy A if you listen to the lectures and read the free textbook, he's a funny and sweet professor.
Quizzes are 75% and final is 25%, no projects/papers. Quizzes are 10 true/false questions based on lecture & textbook. His lectures are superrr boring but you need to show up do well on quizzes. Like another review said, this class is an easy B but a hard A.
He doesnt give midterms, or papers. There are 8 7-8 quizzes and the lowest gets dropped and one final. Super sweet and funny old man. Always talks about being a dentist for twenty years before becoming a professor. Lectures are boring tho ngl but his personality makes up for it :)
Pretty simple class. No homework. No midterms. No notes. Gives 5-6 true & false quizzes (10 questions each, drops the lowest grade) that are 70% of the grade. Gives a final that is 30%. Listen to his lectures and read the textbook if you want. Overall, it was a light class
Great Macro professor. No midterm just 5-6 quizzes and will drop the lowest and a final.
He's a great professor, super hilarious and gives good lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should join class and pay attention because a lot of what he says in his lectures will show up on the quizzes. Overall, the class was pretty chill and easy. 5-6 quizzes around every two weeks (consists of 10 true/false questions) and a final exam
Pretty chill class with 6 quizzes and one final. Drops the lowest quiz grade. Attendance is not mandatory but you should attend his lectures. He is super precious OwO
He's okay, grades were only 6 quizzes and one final, drops one quiz too, final was pretty hard ngl. A chill class if you have other classes to worry about but he does not record lectures so you have to take a lot of notes. Textbook also helps with the term he goes over. Overall, decent class, laid back too, easy B, pretty hard A tho.
Hands down prob one of the best Macro profs you can take here. He's very knowledgeable and you HAVE to listen to his lecture in order to get a good grade in his class. This semester he gave us 6 quizzes, no hw, 1 final. Super light.
His lectures are pretty good, its hard to sleep in them. Gives out 6 quizzes, no hw, and a final. Quizzes are not too bad but the final was really hard tho. Honestly take the class if you want a class you can be laid back on. Easy B, hard A.
Don't listen to any of those who gave this professor a bad rating. If you truly found his class boring, I'm sorry but business is not for you. This professor is funny and gives you great life lessons. He gives quizzes every week but he literally tells you what to remember for the quiz. Highly recommend this professor, wished he taught Micro.
Professor Malca is AMAZING! If you show up to class and take GOOD notes ( and I mean write down EVERYTHING he says) , you're sure to get an A. He is extremely knowledgable and will say everything in class that will lead you to a definite A. No tricks on his exams!
Any negative thing written here is NOT TRUE. Professor Malca is the most educated professor I have ever had. He made the class fun, interesting, and relatable. Gives 6 quizzes BASED ON CLASS NOTES, no midterm, and gives a final. Come to class, listen, and write down every word he says. He strays from the book so his word is gold!! GENIUSSS!!!
No homework, papers. Just quizzes and a final primarily based on his lectures. There is a textbook which he referred to occasionally but the lectures are especially important. I highly recommend opening a word doc and using word dictation while he speaks and taking notes on the side, helps for reference and keeps you somewhat focused
He has 6-7 quizzes worth 75% of your grade and a final which is 25%. They can be tricky sometimes, but he wont do anything in your favor..
GREAT lectures. All very important to know in life. PAY ATTENTION to the lectures and you'll be fine for the quizzes. Grade is based on quizzes (75%). Also, don't ask questions that stray away from the topic, he doesn't appreciate that. He also really enjoys participation. Overall, excellent experience. I got everything I wanted from this class.
Professor Malca is a cool guy and his lectures are solid and easy to understand. In order to do well though you have to be a really good note taker, because that will practically be your best source to study for his quizzes. 6 quizzes lowest gets dropped and a final. The quizzes and final will be the only thing that counts for your grade.
there are quizzes every two weeks, 10-15 t/f or multiple choice questions, and you have 10-15 mins to complete them. he makes up the final, same way. doesn't have powerpoints/notes to follow along though, but he answers and goes over any questions if you have them. also very funny and sweet.
I loved him! If you're really interested in today's events, he takes around 5-10 mins of every class to discuss what's happening. Had 10 quizzes but lets you drop the lowest grade, and they're pretty easy if you go to class and take notes. Honestly you don't really need to read the textbook, just go by what he says in class.
Unpleasant experience. Professor Malca did not give over the course content in a helpful manner and was quite rude to students who had difficulty throughout the course. The exams were NOT an accurate representation of what we covered in class. He reads the newspaper and is ODE w current events. He refused to curve any exams. Would NOT recommend.
Best professor I have had at Baruch. The stuff he teaches applies to the real world. He is also funny and gives life lessons once in a while. Just go to class because tests are based on material covered in class. Definitely recommend!
Long story short, if you are NOT good at note taking, Do Not Take His Class. His exams are based on what he says and shows and it can be very hard to keep up with him since he maintains a somewhat fast pace. Despite this, he is personally a good guy, but just not easy to learn from.
Not a bad guy. I feel much everyone here has him down pat. Good or bad rating. I see that his style changed from Dec 20-Dec So my point of view and experience: Good guy very knowledgeable but the lack of material to study with is the problem. He wants you to go based on his lectures. Be a good note taker and sit close. Only way youll pass.
This is actually the worst professor I have ever had as a JUNIOR and that says a lot tests and finals are ONLY based on what comes out of his mouth so get ready for ur hand to fall off at every class. LESSONS DON'T MATCH TESTS. I am an A student, studied, attended every class, and didn't pass. HAS NO REMORSE AND DOESNT GIVE A SHt about his students
He should be fired. His teaching style sucks. Its only based on what he says and its hard to hear him when your in a class with 200+ students. Doesn't explain things well for the dummies and wont do anything in your favor. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. don't know how this man expects students to write down everything he says. not realistic nor practical.
He's a nice guy but a terrible teacher. Spends half of class talking about current events and is not the best explainer. My grade was made up of the midterm and final, that's it. So you have to do good on those to get a good grade. If you can teach yourself and know economics, this class is perfect. If you want to learn, avoid.
Not great, not bad either. He mostly tests on what he teaches. He talks a lot about current events which actually help with understanding finance and finance interviews, if you're into that. He grades only on 2-3 exams. Easy A if you understand basic economic concepts and get notes for class.
he is so bad i wanna give him a zero, but thats not possible, so ill give him a one.
.dont do this to yourself. Grade is based on 3 exams, 2 mid 1 fin, 1 mid was dropped, just dont do this to yourself. I would use strong words but you should listen to me.
Save urself. Having tests based on only class notes is crazy. No one learns when they have to rush every word down. Plus u can barely him in such a large room with so many students. No slides just him talking. HARD and u rlly have no idea what to expect until the test. This was such a hard class tbh and so not worth the stress. Take someone else
Bro has to change his teaching style. He seriously cannot expect students to hear everything he says and write everything down too. Gpa killer. Spends half the class chirping about current events and barely teaches the actual material. Waste of time when u have to commute just to hear him chirp about some random topic. Can be very rude and not help
heavy on the SKIP CLASS? YOU WONT PASS because this is so true. Tests are ONLY ONLY what he says in the lecture. It was so hard to keep up with him as he doesn't explain well and you can't hold up the class and ask a question. Old teaching style that doesn't work. I wish I had never taken him.
Everyone that gave him bad scores are from fall 2021. Considering for most of us, it was our first time in a college setting since Covid, this was a horrible class. Our grades were based on 3 exams, and when he realized we all did poorly on the second exam, he dropped the lowest grade. Making our midterm40% and final60%. Horrible for fall 2021
This is a late review. I took Malca in Fall 2021. Your grade will only be based on the midterm and final. He will not bother to CURVE your exams at all. He mainly just rambles on about current events and not bother explain what you have to know on the test. And not to mention, he's old so he has to speak into a MIC just so you can barely hear him!!
I can not emphasize enough to take a different professor. I am a top student and hated his class beyond belief. He was so rude and did not care for his students. Can't hear him well in a large room with no mic so it was hard to take notes. No class slides, textbook wasn't helpful. 0/10 class
HE IS AN AMAZING PROFESSOR TAKE HIM he deserves a 5/5
My ideal educator. Come in to class, listen to him talk for 90 minutes, and then do 3 tests. No homework, no papers, no attendance, just listen, pay attention, and try to understand what he's saying. Read the relevant chapters once before the test and you're solid. Plus, he's got a sense of humor. He's not making fun of you, just having a laugh.
WHY IS THERE ONLY 3 EXAMS TO DETERMINE OUR GRADE?! THIS IS SO STUPID ONG
graded by only 3 tests, which were all multiple choice but ranged from 30-40 questions so each question is weighted heavily and 1/3 of the exams are on current events, making it tough to do well. mumbles into his mic and just lectures randomly. i hated this class with a passion. would never take him again.
Our entire grade is just based on 3 exams, He doesn't give any practice exams either so you're on your own with trying to figure out what questions he'll ask. The exams are not that bad if you pay attention in class and remember what he says but it's just a risky thing. He does ramble & only attention to the yts in the front row tho
This professor is not as bad as everyone makes him seem. Grades only depend on 3 tests, all multiple choice. Honestly, if you show up to class, take decent notes, and read the chapters from the textbook, you'll do just fine.
malca is the goat
This professor is not as bad as last semesters reviews make him out to be. As long as you pay attention and take at least mediocre notes, you'll be okay. Read the textbook if you really think you need reinforcement, make a Quizlet to study, anything, you need to put in effort to do well. His tests are multiple choice and pretty easy.
I've never rated a professor in my life! There are no words to describe how bad the class is; DO NOT take it for the sake of your grade and college experience.
This professor is INSANE!!! I took this class after looking through these reviews but his teaching style is horrible; he makes the exams so difficult that it makes impossible to earn a good grade; I would recommend not to take him unless you want your GPA to suffer; He doesn't care at ALL!!
Malca is a funny professor and a decent human being. The grading criteria is based on only a few tests with optional homework. He does not upload notes, power points, slides, and rarely communicates via announcements. He is not very accommodating. I had a test for another class coincide with his class once and he refused to help me in any way.
I would not recommend to take him if your trying to learn and earn your grade. He is test heavy and gives exams on material he didn't teach and offers no help in return. I took him because of these good reviews BUT DON'T LET IT FOOL YOU!!
THIS WAS THE WORST CLASS I TOOK AT BARUCH, I wouldn't recommend taking him!!!!
Malca is the GOAT. Begins lectures going over the news which is very important to actual security analysis. If you like finance and can keep up with what he teaches in lectures you will do well. Prefer his approach from the real world v academic.
His lectures are based on textbook material, but he doesn't go as in-depth as the textbook. He makes modern finance easy. He also likes to talk about current events. The way to study for his exams is to review his HW and practice exams, listen in class, take solid notes, and skim through the textbook to recognize what is and isn't from course.
Awful.
Worst professor ever. I took his class because he had good ratings but AVOID his class. He talks a lot and doesn't explain concepts. He isn't clear with what chapters are included in the midterms and he forgets what chapters we went over and which ones we didn't. Overall a shitty professor. Do not take him if you care about learning and your gpa.
Not the worst, but you can definitely find better. The only positive thing I can say about him is that he is very understanding and does listen to your concerns. HW 15%, 2 midterms 25% each, 1 final 35%. He gives practice exams. Review them as much as you can! Gave a curve after class convinced him to provide one. Overall, 6/10 experience
Terrible do not take him.
really unspecific professor ,no slides, no test guides, all notes and alot of guessing what's gonna be on the test
he doesn't give the tests back or upload the slides. It is quite difficult to follow his lectures, participation, and attendance don't matter. he doesn't curve the midterms and the final.
He's not a bad professor. You just need to listen to him very carefully during class & TAKE GREAT NOTES! He focuses on concepts, so it's not math-heavy but requires memorization & understanding. Generally, I studied my notes, & textbook for the 3 exams & did fine. Note he does not give exams back, curves very little, & offers no cheat sheet option.
This prof makes Macro easier than Micro economics. Attendance is not mandatory but if u miss lectures, u wont do that well. only graded on a few easy HWs, 2 midterms, & 1 final. If u participate, will help u out wth the grade. however, exams can be tricky so be attentive to his review and ask for exam sample Qs. similar format to his other classes
Amazing Professor! Goes over current events. Locks door after 20 mins. Graded by 2 exams(25%x2), final(40%), and hw(10%). HW is a joke. Attendance/participation can bump your grade. Does not share slides, but he tells you what's on the exam. Exam is MC, T/F, [and short R (final only-recent)]. Kinda light. He curves if students did bad.
Actually a very knowledgable and easy to follow professor, he made it very interesting tho repetitive. He focused on what really matters for a foundational understanding of global economics / trade but also kept us engaged. Great professor, accessible and understanding. Ignore the complainers just pay attention in class and you will be fine.
He's an honestly good person, and he's a great professor to take if you're really interested in economic history and current economic events. However, you are graded on literally just the two midterms and a final and he does not curve AT ALL. So if you mess up even one of the three, it'll hurt your final grade.
Took both his classes, FIN 3710 and ECO 3250, and all I can say is that this is probably the best Professor left in this school. Teaches in a very old-fashioned way, which is great if you actually want to learn. The only way to do bad is by slacking, coming in late, skipping, and lazing away. Put the work in, and it will pay off - simple as that!
Malca's class is no easy ride, but if you stay engaged, you'll learn a ton. The exams focus on concepts over math, so strong note-taking and unstuckstudy ai for practice tests are key to success.
Prof Malca tries his best to include relevant topics and everyday problems. His exams are influenced with the problems he discusses during class so definitely try to go to every lecture. Also reading the book helps with getting a good grade on his exams. His test reviews are very helpful. Your grade will be based on two midterms and finals. Study!
Attend class -> Pay Attention to lecture -> Easy A
Prof Malca is a great person! His lectures are informative, we start with current news, then the chapters. Fairly easy Midterms and Final as long as you attend the class, you will get decent grades. Get his afternoon class it's better than the morning one. Not boring like other profs in the dept.
If you're a visual learner, you might want to avoid his classes. The exams are fairly easy if you pay attention to his lectures, so don't miss a single one. He doesn't use PowerPoint, assigns 4-5 homework on Connect (with only two questions each), and doesn't rely heavily on the textbook
A lot of these reviews are pretty harsh. I actually enjoyed his class and FIN 3710 itself is a pretty hard subject, so if you didn't try enough on your own, you're definitely not gonna receive a letter grade of your liking. Professor Malca made the tests relatively easy and he tells you what to expect on the tests a few days before the exam.
Beware on the first quiz and test he won't tell you everything that's on, even though he phrases it as "this is all that will be on the quiz". Ask him to use slides. His lectures are what you should focus on, not the textbook from connect. He is an easy grader with very easy homework that makes sense and a.basic attendance grade. Class was fun.
