Professor Nam's teaching style is very lecture heavy. He gives a lot of outside work that can be overwhelming but is flexible with students. His tests are fairly straightforward but some of his questions are confusing. Overall, not a bad professor.

Dr. Nam is the best professor that I have ever had. You can clearly tell that he is passionate about education. This professor will really go above and beyond to make sure that his students are understanding the material, as long as they are putting in the effort as well. Hands down best biology professor!

Dr. Nam is an amazing professor! His lectures were extremely interesting, it was very easy to stay engaged in his class. He takes participation seriously so make sure you ask questions if you have any. Overall he is a very welcoming professor and his class is very straight forward. I would definitely take any other course that he teaches.

Dr. Nams bio course is challenging but rewarding! Hes always willing to meet outside of class hours to help me understand the material. His lectures encourage me to think differently, and Ive gotten a huge confidence boost knowing that I am able to overcome anything he throws at me (with a lot of practice). You wont regret taking his class!

Dr. Nam is a really great professor as well as a genuinely caring and kind person. It was amazing to me how, online, in a class of 100 students, he was able to remember my name, where I was from, and some specifics about me, just from my short introduction. His class is difficult but he is super accessible for help and outlines exams very well.

Best professor ever. Drops so many grades and his tests are super similar to the homework's, quizzes, and practice problems. Truly wants you to do well and always gives you the benefit of the doubt grading wise. 10/10 recommend.

Really enjoyed his Biol 141 class. Very enthusiastic and goes the extra mile to explain concepts. Great attitude. His tests are a good reflection of the students learning. If you pay attention in class and complete assignments, your grade will be safe and you will be well knowledged in intro bio! I would definitely recommend Dr. Nam!

Nam was an amazing bio141 professor, and did a great job for his first semester teaching at Emory, even with the online transition. His lectures were clear and informative, and he showed a passion for teaching. Easy to get in touch with outside of class and very clear in what he expected from his students.

Best professor I had this semester! I was really nervous going into this class, but it has been a breeze and I genuinely feel like I've learned so much. I was nervous about taking bio for my GER but Dr. Nam is the best. The class is by far one of the easiest classes but he also makes it super interesting and engaging. I hated bio in high school but he manages to make me look forward to the class! He is also so funny and charismatic and seems like he really cares about his students!

Living legend Dr. Nam makes class really chill and light. As long as you show up to class and fill out the polls, there's no reason you won't be able to pass with a good grade. He is very understanding and can accommodate you very willingly. His jokes are pretty decent (for professor standards) and his class is just a great time in general.

I suck at bio so i was scared to take this class but Dr. Nam really helped with the detailed explanations and office hours. I failed an assignment really bad and he reached out to me to make sure i understood where i went wrong. He's a really caring prof and i love him sOoo much he's like the father i never had... i wish he'd say he's proud of me..

Perhaps the only mentor I've had so far that made an online class just as viable, if not more, than a normal in-person class. Professor Nam takes good care of his students and always does what he can to make his lectures more understandable and his tests fair. Provided you pay attention in class and take notes, Professor Nam will ensure you do well

Dr. Nam is a really great professor. He breaks things down in a way that non-sciencey people like me actually can understand. We learned a lot about topics that are relevant to today while also learning about basic concepts in bio. He grades attendance by pollev but you don't actually have to show up. Tests are reflective of lectures so pretty easy

Loved Professor Nam for BIOL120. I took this class just as a GER but he really made intro biology interesting and was super caring towards everyone. Attendance was graded through these polls that he would post several times throughout the class and he didn't give a midterm or final. The few tests and quizzes we had were akin to the lecture material

even for an online class, he was able to teach well. he rounds grades and gives opportunities for extra credit. you'll do well if you stay on top of homework and stay awake during class. he does give a lot of mandatory pre-class assignments and will do polls during class to make sure you are present.

As a student, you can definitely feel that Dr. Nam cares deeply about not only your education but also your wellbeing and college experience. He makes sure to be very inclusive and supportive. This being said, his class is still quite challenging and pushes you. As someone who is not very good at bio, I struggled a lot.

Dr. Nam was really great this semester. Sometimes the lectures get really boring, but if you can make it through that and understand the content, the exams are not bad. He's really funny and he seems to be the best out of all of the 141 profs.

Dr. Nam is the best 141 Professor hands down. He explains concepts in a way that the average student can understand and makes sure to give students all the resources needed to succeed.

I absolutely loved Dr. Nam. I only got to experience his class online but even then, he was one of my best professors fall semester. It is very simple to follow along with the material and he is clear with what is expected from you. Exams could be difficult but honestly, if you follow along, he's fine. Also, didn't require us to buy the textbook.

Dr.Nam is by far my favorite professor I've had at Emory. I took him for 141 and 142. His tests are challenging but he prepares you really well for them. He gives tons of practice and is always open to answer questions, talk about biology, or talk about life. He's incredibly kind and caring. Take his class!! It's the best decision you'll make.

As someone who had Nam for both 141 and 142, he is PHENOMENAL!! It's rare to see a prof care as much for his students as he does. He designs creative breakouts and so many practice q's for holds so many help/review sessions. I once emailed him questions over break and he replied with a clear multiple-paragraph explanation the same day. Love himmmm!

He does polls to take attendance throughout the class [for points]. He changes the code every once in a while, so don't miss. Exams are 80% of your grade, but I think all of the BIOL 142 professors are like that. Used textbook at first but stopped after student feedback against it--love him! TAKE HIM!

I love Prof Nam! He is so kind and is always rooting for his students. His class is definitely a class where if you put in the work, you can get the grade that you want. He is always asking for feedback and tries to make his class as accomodating for everyone as possible. 10/10!

Loved Dr. Nam! He is the most caring professor I have taken. He was so attuned to student feedback, if something wasn't working, he didn't hesitate to fix it. Both his exams and final were very easy if you go to class and pay attention, even if they were the standardized 80%. He really cared about us as individuals and I learned so much from him!

Seriously one of the kindest professors here! You can tell he cares about us, even when we are just taking his class as a GER. If you have the option to postpone Baby Bio (120) until you can take him, do it. Sometimes I think he thinks we're kindergartners, but honestly it's nice to be spoon fed stuff when other classes are so hard. 10/10.

Take Dr. Nam if you can. He is such a caring person and always willing to help out in office hours. He makes class less stressful because he understands that students go through a lot and often talks about his own problems to relate to us. His grading system works in your favor because you get to drop a lot of assignments that you didn't do well.

Professor Nam is amazing. He keeps lectures simple and straightforward and, despite large class size, asks for feedback and makes sure we understand before continuing. He takes extra time to explain if we don't. He's super nice and includes real-world examples of everything we learn. Perfect class if you need science with GER credit.

Dr. Nam does everything he could to make sure his students had everything they need to do well in his class. He is very understanding and makes changes to grades/teaching when he realizes he is wrong. His class is hard but he does everything possible to set students up well. Be sure to go to office hours if you don't understand something in lecture because his tests are harder than expected. He gives back points on tests and opportunities for extra credit. Nam is very caring and understanding, a great lecturer, and a cool person. I usually enjoyed his lectures (it was an afternoon class so I was tired). His tests were fair and reasonable, and he always gave us points back if he made an error. Very intelligent and worth taking!

HE CARES SO MUCH ABOUT STUDENTS and he wants you to do well. Gives out 5 extra credit. helpful prelecture videos, and fun class. overall he deserve a 5.0 rating, take HIM if you can, you won't regret.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Breaks down tests into 5 mini ones (not cumulative + really easy if you pay attention in class + lots of relevant practice questions). Very interesting lectures and he makes biology relevant to current events. Definitely try to take him for Bio 120, I'm not that into bio but I loved the class.

Best teacher ever. Cares about students a lot and is really relatable. Grades really easy and is incredibly understanding. He's insanely compassionate and educated. He's not a pushover though, so don't take advantage of his kindness. No exams or quizzes, just weekly reflections on short, interesting readings. Take him if you can for any class.

Best freshman seminar. Easy but also fun and very eye opening. All of my friends were jealous. He is also such a very nice professor.

Nam is a super engaging professor, lectures are not dry, and he's genuinely invested in your learning. Class has lots of breaks to do practice problems which helps for learning. 2nd half of class with signaling stuff is tough so make sure to go to LA sessions/office hours and you should be fine. He also gives some EC too to help boost your grade.

Biology is not my best subject, but I enjoyed his class and he made it bearable. The exams were fair and he has many assignments to buffer exam grades if you don't do well. Such an amazing professor and genuinely cares for students' success. Definitely harder than the other BIOL141 professors, but also a much better lecturer. Extremely accessible outside of class for office hours and will set up meetings with you if you need more help.

Obviously, BIO120 is baby bio, but I still found him super engaging and great at explaining concepts. He breaks things down very simply and builds upon previous lectures. He's a fantastic lecturer--energetic, funny, etc. His tests are straightforward, and he was quite accessible. IDK if he's the same for hard bio classes, but I would recommend!

Dr. Nam assigns a lot of work in the form of pre-class tasks, unit quizzes, and problem sets, but lectures are concise and clear, and the class practice questions will train you for approaching concepts. He's also one of the few professors that give clear study guides, and exams aren't bad at all if you follow them. Take him, best option for 142.

Dr. Nam is the best professor I've ever had. Literally never met anyone who genuinely cares so much about the well-being and success of their students. I had him for BIOL 141 & 142 and he even vouched for me as a reference for a lab job I wanted. Take this man if you want to cruise through bio-he gives extra credit and listens to student feedback!

Dr. Nam is a super woke teacher and is super open-minded. He also respects student feedback and will respond to most of the feedback. Sometimes he can seem intimidating because he's a little savage, but most of the time he is really nice and easy to talk to. AWESOME LECTURES, one of the best professors/teachers I have ever had.

Highly recommend Dr. Nam for Bio! His class is very organized, and tests are not too hard (and all multiple choice) as long as you keep up with the work in and outside of class. Lectures are engaging, and provide opportunity for participation. He is easily accessible via email and office hours.

Dr. Nam is an incredibly professor! He is charismatic and funny and makes you want to show up and participate in class. The content is a great deal more difficult than BIOL 141, but if you are conscience during class and study a little outside of it, you will succeed. Take Nam!

AMAZING!! Really cares for his students and makes topics easy to understand. Makes an effort to remember all of his students' names which is sweet. Clear on what will be assessed and what won't be. Most content-filled lectures are outside of class but not too much work.

Literally the best intro Bio professor at Emory. His curriculum is well-organized, with many practice problems and exam questions that you can utilize. He genuinely cares about his students, and he DOES take care of everyone. If you already did AP Bio, BIOL141 should be a piece of cake though.

Dr. Nam is kind, fun, and empathic, yet he is very organized. As long as you follow his instructions, you will become a biology wizard. His class involved 2-4 assignments a week. 2 just prepare you for each lecture, a practice quiz, and then a real quiz. Although it's a lot, it makes learning easy. His class is structured around pre-lecture videos, where he mostly covers practice questions in class and applies skills from the pre-lecture. His tests are very straightforward if you do put in the work that's expected out of a college course.

This is the teacher you want for Bio. His tests are very chill and easy (averages are high for tests) and he is very funny. If this class fits in your schedule, take it.

If you need to take bio for a major requirement, take Nam. The best lecturer and prof I've ever taken a class with at Emory. He's super caring, explains everything thoroughly, and gives SO much practice material before exams, most of which is harder than the exam content in order to ensure you do well. If there's spots left, definitely take him!!!

Dr. Nam is a very sweet and funny person who cares about students' performance in class, and the best professor for intro bio. Weekly problem sets and pre-class videos are fairly easy and manageable. There are two midterms with an average of 90 and 85, and he gave us a practice exam that's harder than the actual test. Take him!

Dr. Nam is like so father coded! As someone who for some reason struggles with bio in general and is better at chem, Dr. Nam was always there for me ;) I genuinely loved him and he doesn't know how much he means to students and how his patience and genuine love for teaching inspires students. Professor Nam was the most caring professor I've ever had. I got a 75 on the first exam and thought there was no possible way to get an A but he was so supportive and accessible. He would send out emails to students about their improvement between exams. I got A's on the rest of the exams and ended with an A overall in the class.

Dr. Nam was an extremely caring and fun professor that made it his goal to know every single individual's name in his class. In comparison to other bio classes of the same level, he went into way more detail than any other bio class. Have to watch lectures and respective homework outside of class, and then additional homework for in class lectures

Great professor who really cares a lot. The slides cover almost everything for tests. I thought his class was a little boring but he tries to make it engaging through group work. Bio is not exactly the funnest class but he always tries to bring energy into the room and uses interesting examples to help us learn.

like 10ish assignments a week they arent hard just lots of grunt work time and attendance is graded but all the grunt work stuff give your grade a buffer exams all mcq final is worth a lot so be tapped in nam is a good teacher lots of resources legit just a matter of putting in time if you do you get an A hes also a nice guy and great chat with

Dr. Nam is very accessible outside of class and is willing to work with you if you have trouble getting a good grade. Definitely a class where you get what you put in.

Nam is an amazing professor. He truly cares about students, and meets with you if he notices you need help with the course. Pretty assignment heavy compared to other professors, but it helps in the long run and buffers your grade. Definitely, however, don't take this class for the "easy A". Be ready to put in some work.
