He is a good professor but is very boring.
incredibly boring, but a nice guy and a good professor.

Dr. Neth is great. He truly cares for students and will go out of his way to help you.
Dr. Neth is a great professor. He really cares for the students and will do his best to help you get a good grade.
repetitive when teaching, but very helpful
class was somewhat easy. I never went to class and got an A. the practice exams are exactly like the exams except sometimes the numbers are switched. I stopped doing the homework half-way through the course and did just as well.
Always willing to give extra help, in and out of class. Sometimes, the problem examples he does in lecture are a little hard to follow.
Very good professor always willing to help students and will always take the time to help students..practice exams are the actual exams except the exams have different numbers in them
Lectures are extremely boring and he repeats himself a lot. But, he does everything he can to help you do well in the class. Practice exams are similar to the real tests.
Easy to follow if you print out slides before class and bring them. Go to discussion. Practice exams ARE real exams with different numbers. Doing homework book probs. and OWL problems helps A LOT! You don't have to go to lecture if you can follow the book.
Class is not that easy so you have to put in work and effort but he teaches very well and is helpful and really wants you to pass and do well.
Chemistry is not easy in general but he helps make it understandable. He's always willing to help...go to his office hours!
May be a little dull but an easy professor. Will go out of his way to help you. His practice exams are almost exactly like his actual exams
ATTENTION PRE-PHARMACY STUDENTS: DR.NETH IS THE MAN. Hands down one of the best professors at UCONN. He has print out slides, which are organized, his practice exams are similar to the actual exams. Responds to emails quickly and is always willing to help. GO TO OFFICE HOURS IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING. Don't take 127 or 128.
Neth is the coolest professor. I think he gave good and helpful lectures, and also gave us something good to look at.
Neth is a good professor. Does his best at keeping the class interesting with his somewhat nerdy jokes about politics and somehow relates them to the subject. Explains everything in detail and does tons of examples to clarify. Gives out practice exams before the exams that are almost identical to the exam itself.
Dr. Neth is an easy lecturer, but is comes at a high price. I found it incredibly hard to listen to his 50 minutes of droning. Going to class is basically useless, but entertaining if you want to see him do some funny dances with laser pointers and repeat himself all the time. Gives practice tests that are basically the real tests.
Dr. Neth is by far the best professor at UCONN. As long as you study for the test, or actually make an effort to see him, an A is easily attainable. He is almost always available and so helpful! If you try to memorize the practice exam, expect an F. Only people that understand the material, and do well on the practice exam will get an A!
Dr.Neth is extremely helpful and very nice. The class is moderately difficult, but more than do-able with sufficient effort! Do all of your homework and always go to class...it will bring your grade up significantly. Before exams, it's most helpful to review homework problems and practice test problems.
Dr. Neth is a prime example of a good professor. Does lots of examples in lecture. Uses CPS remote system (attendance). Assigns A LOT of online and written homework each week, on top of pre-labs before every lab, but they help you in the long run. Has tons of office hours every week, and really LOVES helping students out.
Neth is somewhat boring in lecture but thats expected. He covers the material well and gives a lot of examples. Gives a practice test before every exam which is very helpful! Labs are very easy.
great professor, makes learning chemistry really easy
great professor, helps understand even difficult topics easily
Neth is a funny character he has his pants up to his belly button with his marshmallow new-balance sneakers waives a laser pointer in every direction and repeats himself quite often..often. The material is hard but as long as you put alot of effort into the class you should be fine.
I had Neth for Chem 1104-1106 and although I do not like chem. he made it easier. Going to lecture definitely helps, but I did skip/sleep through a few. A lot of the concepts are explained in discussion and his exams are very similar to his practice exams which is very helpful.
Great professor. Explains EVERYTHING. Yes, I have fallen asleep in lecture, but its chem, what do you expect? I would definitely recommend him tho as a professor. excellent.
Great responsible, well learned proffesor.
Great professor. Explains everything very well and always available for questions via email or in person. Exams are average to difficult but his practice exams greatly help. I would recommend him to anyone taking lower level chem.
Great professor, easily one of the best at UConn. Makes a difficult class much more manageable. A nice guy who loves helping students and is readily available through email, office hours, scheduled meetings, and even drop-ins. Makes sure the students understand the material and wants them to do well.
Professor Neth is a great professor, one of the best, the class is still chemistry but he makes it much easier and is willing to work with you.
He is such a nice guy and he goes over the material really well. He gives you everything you need to do well in the class!
Love this man!!! he makes chemistry interesting and understandable. great lecturer and soooo helpful with no surprises. he really cares about his students. i highly recommend doing chem 1124, 1125, and 1126 with him.
Dr. Neth is an excellent professor who shows a lot of interest in his students. He offers plenty of additional help outside of class and his textbook supplemented his already useful lectures perfectly. I also appreciated the homework because it really helped me to learn the material more thoroughly.
If you are willing to put in the time and effort to understand the material you will do well. He makes it easy and does not trick you on tests. He gives a practice test before every exam and its usually the same problems w. different numbers. The lectures arent manadatory if you are willing to read the book.. he goes really fast through slides
This guy is the man. Very helpful, very clear, and somewhat interesting. If you need a gen-ed, this guy is as good a choice as any.
Neth is the best. Cares if the students are learning. I was struggling and he let me visit him all the time for office hours and gave me confidence that I could pass his class and did.
Great professor tries to help students as much as possible. The material is not that easy but read the book and go to class and you'll do fine. Tests are pretty straightforward and practice exams help
This is probably one of the best professors for introductory and general chemistry at uconn. He explains everything in the best way possible and really helps out his students with office hours as much as possible. If you want to understand chemistry and get a good grade, then take him. He will help you get the best out of chemistry.
I had this professor last semester and again this semester, and will next semester (I'm in the three course chem program). Personally, I find his lectures useless. The only things I find at all helpful are discussions (of which he doesn't teach) and OWLs (I'm not sure what say he has in the design). He could be much, much better, but also worse.
Neth is a VERY good professor. He explains concepts very clearly and provides many examples in the powerpoints (which are online) to drill the material. He answers questions very thoroughly and his tests are EXACTLY like the practice. If you ace that, you'll do great on the test!
edward neth is my favorite professor. he's such a cutie pie. tests are EXACTLY like the practice exams, bonuses are doable if you understand the material, and he's awesome at explaing concepts. but don't you DARE talk while he's talking. just don't.
I'm in the three sequence chem and I love Dr. Neth. His examples in class are the problems on the quizzes and tests. He wrote the textbook and if you use it to study you can do really well. I had a hard time with chem in high school but there are so many resources to help you do well in this class. Especially the prac exams! You'll be fine!
I have taken CHEM1124-1126 from him. He is a really helpful teacher, and the optional class is extremely useful for exams.Exams are really just about the practice exams.Do it you will receive great score on your exam.
Dr. Neth truly wants his students to succeed. The material is difficult, but he offers an optional class each week for Q&A. The practice exam is a VERY good guide to the real exam. Always answer clicker questions in class to help your grade!
Awesome professor! Very helpful and always willing to answer questions. The online assignments can get annoying and tedious, but they are there to help you. Make sure you look at the previous year's exam, which he'll post, because it'll be very similar to your own!!
Great teacher always willing to answer questions, although I do learn a lot more in discussion than lecture!
Dr. Neth is by far the best gen chem professor you can get. His class is challenging, but if you put in the work it is more than fair. Additionally, he is always willing to help. I have developed an awesome rapport with this professor and he is one of the most helpful and intelligent people I know. Great for pre-med as he is bio based as well.
Difficult class but neth is definitely willing to help! The discussions are key and help A LOT! Last years practice exams are very similar to the exams he gives. Take advantage of resources such as the book that he wrote and the q center ( they help a lot !!!! ) and you will do well in the class!
It's a hard class but the worst part is the online work. You are required to complete OWLs and ALEKS each week. These can take anywhere from 3-18 hrs. The power points aren't very helpful and if it wasn't for the extra time spent with my TA, I would have failed. The exams are straightforward and closely resemble the practice exams given to you.
This very easy class if you go to class and do the work. Test are very similar past exam.
Dr. Neth is really helpful and is a good lecturer. Lab is pretty easy if you have a good TA. The hardest part is the online work just because it's extremely time consuming.
Not only is Dr. Neth one of the smartest professors at UConn, but he translates that very well to his teaching. The class is challenging and there is online work- that being said if its taking you anywhere close to 18hrs maybe reconsider the major that put you in this class. Its very doable and he is one of the most caring professors. Great class
Neth makes sure that all his students understand the material and gives many opportunities to his students. He is an amazing professor, and he will make sure that you understand chemistry.
This is my 3rd semester with Dr. Neth. I wouldn't say the material is easy, but Dr. Neth gives students such a large amount of resources that its very feasible to do well. With all the TAs, you can almost always walk into the tutoring room and get one-on-one help. He also hosts review sessions, but he expects you to be prepared.
He is a nice man but I would not suggest taking him for the three sequence chemistry course. It is no easier than the two sequence, it is actually more work and is more time consuming. Because you have 3 semesters to cover the same amount of material as the 2 semester course, it goes much more in depth and is a wasted extra semester.. Don't do it
Neth is a really good professor. Chemistry at UCONN is not easy but he is always there to help if you are confused if you seek out help. He responds well if you stop by his office hours. There is a lot of homework and work for this class but it does help prepare you for the exams. Read the chapters the night before lecture and you will do better.
Very attractive and great professor. Two very enthusuastic thumbs up!!
Dr. Neth is nice guy. I personally enjoyed his lectures. Although, I heard some people say they don't like him, and I can see why. Dr. Neth will not just give away an A. You have to earn your A. The exams were a challenging but they were doable. He is super nice when you visit him during office hours. Finally, get that homework done!
1125 is a lot harder than 1124. He's in his office 90% of the time and he doesn't mind you asking questions outside his office hours. He will help you no matter how dumb the question is. Very respectful guy, was more than happy to write me a rec. letter and ended up getting a paid internship with his help. Study, do ALEKS, go to lab, you'll live.
Overall, a great teacher. Exams can be difficult, however how he weighs the grades keeps them from destroying your grade. One of his scales puts ALEKS homework at 15% and your lowest two exam grades at 5% and 10%. Do you ALEKS homework, book homework, and come to class and you can get an easy B to A Range Grade
Lectures are pretty clear and he posts the slides online. Tests tend to have random math problems that look like you've never seen them before. Lot of work but overall not too difficult of a class if you stay on top of it
Dr. Neth gives good lectures, and actually covers the material well. Discussion sections are very helpful, although long. The class wasn't too bad and it wasn't too difficult to get a good grade. Homework averaged about 4 hours per week, you need to do it to do well. Don't buy a print textbook, use the online one through connect he assigns anyway.
Neth is very intelligent but has trouble teaching his students, many of them struggled during class with this material. Get ready to read because his powerpoints just cover the basics and lectures are not very helpful.
There are a lot of resources to help you do well. Basically, if you do the work and go to class you will be fine.
Dr. Neth's lectures were clear and would make sense, and then he would make the exams so hard that the averages were in the 50's. He doesn't believe in scaling, but sometimes provides an opportunity to gain points back through online quizzes. Show up to class because he provides up to +5 bonus pts on your final average if you participate every day
Lecture is hard to pay attention in, but when you do it is very helpful. Discussion is also very helpful, make sure you do the problem sets assigned for discussion. Also do your ALEKS. With that being said, there is a lot of work you have to do on your own to find success, which makes it challenging but prepares you well for his tough exams.
I have never written a review for a professor before but Dr. Neth deserves this one. Yes - he makes you work for your grade. but he gives you all the tools necessary to succeed in this course. Go to class and pay attention. Do his example problems. Go to his office. Study the worksheets and problem set questions from discussion. You can get that A.
You cannot cram for this class. Has good office hours and is happy to help if you show that you care. He made the textbooks cheaper for students recently.
Excellent
Genuinely thought that Chemistry was going to be one of my harder classes. Midway thru semester 1, I'm finding Chemistry to actually not be that bad, because of Neth. If you have to take Chem 1124, take it with Neth. Neth teaches way better than the other professors for Chem, and prepared me very well for the exams. Can't wait to have him in 25/26.
This was my first time having Neth. Never payed attention in lecture only went for clicker questions. Exams were difficult, averages were in the 50s-60s. You really have to learn the materials and aleks helps with this. A week before thanksgiving break he decided to make our Final exam cumulative throughout all 3 semesters called ACS.
I had Neth for Chem1124 and let me tell you, I struggled so much in this class but definitely not because of him. He is a very well spoken professor who genuinely cares about how well his students are doing and does everything he can to help them. Go to office hours - talk to him if you have concerns - as long as you're trying, he will help you.
What a great person! I never liked chem, but he made me take an interest in chem. He's one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. I got a 43 in my first exam, but he didn't think I was dumb or anything. He always helped me and told me I can do great in his class. He's available to his students every time. He knows how to teach and he understands us.
Best professor at the Stamford campus. This guy is the best! Textbook homework. easy grader for labs. very interesting lectures. easy quizzes. the only problem is that his exams are a bit difficult. Enjoyed this class because of him.
The class is hard and there are a lot of homework and quizzes, but professor Neth is very helpful. I definitely suggest him if you are planning to move from Stamford campus to Storrs because he prepares you and is always happy to help. Don't like Chemistry, but enjoyed his class.
Do the labs, perform well on the quizzes and tests, and he will try his best to modify the criteria and give you a good grade. Beware of his new homework system! He uses a website called Knewton and grades solely on completion at the end of the term. Do not leave that till the last minute.
Dr. Neth was one of the best professors I've ever had. If you put in hard work, make an effort to go see him when you struggle and WORK on those areas of weakness, he will do everything in his power to help you succeed.
Dr. Neth is an extremely good professor and Uconn Stamford is lucky to have him. The class requires quite a bit of work, but if you do the work and take care to know the material, then you will do well. Dr. Neth is EXTREMELY willing to help his students so don't be afraid to ask for it. UNDERSTAND the class slides and HW and you'll do well.
Professor Neth is Amazing! He truly cares for his students if you have any questions like he would dead be there for you. He stares at students and it gets really awkward sometimes, but its fine. He will ask you to leave if you talk while he is presenting. All slides are available online, and homework is on Knewton. Also, textbook is online.
Lectures can be boring but they're Powerpoints to take notes on and he tries to put in a bias joke or two during lecture to lighten up. 3 exams, 6 quizzes + labs. Show him you are putting in the work, pay attention, and go to every lecture. He's a solid if not one of the best UConn Stamford has to offer. I just wish I could've talked to him more.
Excellent Professor !
Neth is one of those professors who looks like he couldn't care less about you. However, he's really great. I suggest bothering him during office hours and asking for help whenever you need it. He wants his students to succeed. Chem1127 is not easy, the lectures can be boring, but do your Knewtons I can't stress that enough. It's really helpful.
If you have Professor Neth, you're in good hands. Although he makes you work for a good grade, he will do anything he can to help you if you show you care. He's very helpful outside of class and will make sure you get the material. He's overall a very cool and nice professor and is one of the top professor's UCONN Stamford has to offer.
Professor Neth is one of my favorite professors at UConn Stamford! Do the Knewton assignments and practice with the material and you will do well in his class (I didnt need to use the textbook). He makes sure his students understand the material. His lectures are clear and his powerpoints are well made. Make sure you study for the exams!
Amazing professor. Chem is such a hard class but Dr. Neth made it easier to understand. He gives many chances to learn topics like in labs, homework, and practice problems during class. Dr. Neth made me actually start to like chem more than I ever did but if you don't put in the work and energy it will get hard.
Kept falling asleep because of the monotone lectures that would sporadically increase in intensity (waking me from my peaceful slumber), but I think that was because of COVID. Just do the work and you will be fine.
Dr. Neth made chemistry manageable for me. His lectures are slightly boring, but as long as you read the book, watch the lectures, complete the knewton assignments, and study for the quizzes, you will definitely be fine.
As long as you put in the work you'll manage. He always answers any questions. Chemistry is not very easy, but he's a solid teacher. Just make sure you stay on top of your work.
A great professor who tries to make a very complex subject as easy to understand as he can. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are online 'participation' assignments that he goes over in-class which you can do outside of class without the professor's help. Take notes and do the homeworks on-time, and you'll be fine.
Professor Neth is a wonderful teacher, the subject is rather difficult so my intro-level chem class lost about 30% of its initial attendance. You will need to work but if you do you will pass. I once called N2O DiHydrogen Oxide instead of DiNitrogen Oxide on a test. He didn't get hung up on the small error, he circled the N and gave full credit.
Professor Neth is the picture perfect college science professor for students willing to work hard, without overloading oneself. He's understanding and incredibly helpful. He makes the course as easy as possible without reducing the material we need to learn. If you are taking a chem course, Neth is the move. Don't be fooled into taking someone else
AMAZING professor! Dr. Neth is a fantastic professor, his lectures are great and he is always available to students for extra help. Make sure to complete all the assigned work and come to lectures, and you will do well in the course. The lab component of this course is fun, but can be challenging if you don't know what you are doing.
Tbh, the chemistry depart. at UConn stamford sucks. These reviews are misleading. Dr. Neth only lectured all semester. Our class was lost and he knows that as to why he curves and gives a lot of partial credit on exams. If you study the knewton and put in a couple hours per week this class should be fine. Otherwise for average learners, stay away.
love love neth!! He's very understanding and as long as you communicate with him he'll help!!
Dr. Neth is an amazing professor! He understands that chemistry is a really hard subject and tries his best to boost your grade with lots of homework and quizzes. I ended with a B+ which isn't bad. I promise that it's the course, not the professor.
