Papa is the man, i took him for medievil philosophy and he made evrything simple.

Papa is ok, theres a LOT of reading, but he only gives 4 tests, essays, but the review questions are the same as the essay questions. Classes are Boring but he is all around a good teacher

Papa is an amazing professor no matter what class you take. It takes a certain type of person to be able to understand and enjoy philosophy. Those of you that find it hard, don't put in the effort to really care about what you are reading.

I must say going in he through a lot at the class, but I tell you I walked out of that class a better person. - GREAT TEACHER..really makes you think.

I will start by saying that I hated phil 101 and was dreading taking any more phil. classes before I sat in his class. I think he is a great teacher. While the subject at hand may not be that interesting, if you can follow it, he has a lot of insight into the topics. He loves strong essays so I suggest you be a good writer if you take his class.

Awesome teacher. Be creative. A lot of people think he wants his essays by the book. He wants what you think and how you interpret the theories.

All I have to ask is one question: Why? You know the answer, you get an A

This the best class i have ever taken. Its a hard class but if you pay attention it can really make a difference. He is a good teacher & the knowledge he gave me has change my life... If you want something out of life & out of sacredheart then take this class.

If you want to check off the philosophy requirement on your degree tracking sheet, take someone else's course. If you want to learn philosophy and have the guts to actually work for it, you can't hope for a better professor that Dr. Papa. If you spend the time, you'll learn so much you'll wonder why the guy isn't teaching at a better school.

he is a great guy and very funny! he does expect a lot of his students but there are no tests. you have to write an essay on each book. only take his class if you can read a philosopher and then write about their theories. He does explain some things but usually takes it to a deeper level to accomadate the smart kids in the class.

Never took him for 101 so don't know what that's like but for this 200 level course we had no tests - just a paper at the end of each book. He's not a bad professor but you should be prepared to work for yourself at times.

A fantastic professor. If you want a breeze course or an easy, no work elective, avoid this teacher. if wish to take a serious college class and "test your might" so to speak, then this is the professor to take.

Really easy

It's a hard class, opinionated testes and essays, if u participate you make the class easier for urself, but if u plan to sit there and do nothing, enjoy the D or if ur lucky a C+

Papa is very funny and an intellegent professor. if you want 2 learn new and deep things and you have philosophical thoughts and questions, take him. if ur lazy & hate thinking about deep things, ull hate him and the class. i feel like ull get the most out of PH101 if you participate nd take part in discussion. :D

He is very passionate about the subject. Class is very intense for an intro course, and he will probably scare people away after the first week, but after you get to know him he is actually pretty funny. No tests in my class, just 3 opinionated essays. There isnt that much work, just be prepared to be called on in class.

Way different from other professors here, he actually made us work for our grades. He's interactive and dares to engage us rather than bore us with power point.

He's the most thought-provoking teacher I've ever had, hands down. Everyone says he's really tough, but I think he grades fairly (and hey, you only have 3 essays the whole semester--all of the class is just discussion!)Give him a shot.

Take him!his class is very interesting and interactive. He knows what he's talking about, and is very helpful and available for any help!Although you have to work for your grade it is worth it, he is one of my favorite professors at SHU!

if you participate in class and genuinely try to understand the subject matter you will get a good grade. It is very possible to get an A in this class you just can't be lazy. Take this class if you want to challenge yourself.

Papa is the type of professor that will make you work for your grade- you get what you earn. He relates his lectures to life experiences which makes it interesting. You either love him or hate him but he knows what he's talking about. You'll look back and think, "wow I actually learned a lot." That is such a great feeling- model professor.

His class is challenging, but is worth taking. I would easily take it again.

Professor Papa, is a brilliant man, when I got to know him I began to understand his perceived cynical and cruelty, he had a tough like just like everyone else:m. This class is about one thing. Read the given material - THINK CRITICALLY ABOUT IT; and formulate a logical coherent paper. If the paper is logic is sound but the result invalid thats ok.
