Pizzini is a very thorough professor who explains every single detail in his lectures. He discusses terms and definitions very clearly and answers questions whenever one comes up. The only problem with him though is that his tests (midterms/finals) are difficult in a sense that most of the questions asked are not directly from the text he provides.
He knows what hes talking about and hes pretty entertaing, but oh my god his tests are so difficult because of the vagueness in the questions. Didn't even know what he was asking about for most of the stuff on the final and midterms. Even the lab quizzes are extremly hard. Take this class only if you're willing to study alot.
His quizzes are pretty tough, but if you do the reading and the problems you should be fine. His exams are pretty straight-forward but challenging.
The trick to getting an A in his class, is that, study, practice all the hw problems he gives you, ask questions, oh and one major thing, COME TO CLASS. I think he uses the movie, references, to make the class more interesting, however, I was lost, since, I have never watched these movies.
The class was curved, but in the end the curve did not increase the grades so beware! Just coming to class is not enough because I was in class every day and received a C. I recommend focusing more on the book because I focused more on the lectures and you see where that got me.
CSUEB is lucky to have a professor of Dr. P's caliber teaching here. He's one of the best lecturers at this school (super organized and relates to the textbook). Yes, there is a lot of math in this class but that's the nature of Quant and chemistry in general. If you want the science but don't want to do the math then take a biology course instead.
He's a very good lecturer and he is always willing to answer your questions or explain concepts in office hours. His quizzes are easier than his tests so be careful. If you want to learn chem for the MCAT or other grad school exams, he is the one to take.
Quizzes and tests are incredibly hard. He gives out practice exams but don't bother studying them because they hardly relate to the tests. Expect to study A LOT in this class. His lectures are excellent but dear lord. Those tests.
This class is not easy. Be prepared to study a lot. Don't bother studying the practice exams because they are so different than the actual exams. Study the book because he sometimes takes direct questions and puts them on the exam. He taught okay but not my favorite teacher.
Pizzini is one of the best chemistry professor I've had in a while. Test are fair and he does have a curve. Must attend lecture because some exam problems show up in lecture. No surprise with him and he is funny guy.
He should not work with EB Replay, as of this quarter he has disabled slide view (bad because he adds info which is not uploaded to BB) and I've felt put down for being unable to attend. This is a commuter school, as if it's not hard enough for some of us already. Our learning and study tools are being removed, completely discouraging.
If you don't want to be publicly humiliated make sure you go to the lecture. His exams are ridiculously difficult and impossible. 5% of the exam is calculation questions and the rest is random and awkward conceptual questions. He is insane. The average on exam 1 was a 44 out of the 100.
I loved Pizzini's chem2302. . He wants his students to understand and you can see it in his eyes and through his stories. He doesn't like repeating himself, so make sure you're paying attention and not repeating someone else's question. I like working for my As, and I had to work, but his enthusiasm is contagious.
The class itself is not that hard, yet he make it harder. the quizzes are much easier than the exams, which makes his exams unpredictable. More than half of the class got under his curve, which is 60%
You need to come to lab and lecture. I read the book alongside his lectures. He is not a good teacher, only does the math problems. Add stuff to his powerpoints later and does not upload the updates to BB. Exams and quuizzes are really hard. Pray you pass. I would not take any class from Pizzini again.
Being a science major, I prefer to work for my A. Pizzini makes you work for it! He really loves what he does, but he will not put up with slackers. If you think you can pass this class by doing the minimum, you're sorely mistaken. We didn't do anything out of the book. Just show up to class, take good notes, and STUDY, you will be fine.
I enjoyed Pizzini's class, but I know that many did not. Dr. Pizzini is a quality professor who teaches at a higher level than most CSUEB professors do. I was appalled by how many students do not do their readings or show up to lecture. If you do the readings, homework and participate during lecture you will most likely do fine.
He specifically leaves all the important things out of his PowerPoint presentations when he posts them on Blackboard -no equations or concept definitions. Most exam points are in a few multi-part questions; if you can't do the first part, kiss all 3 parts goodbye. Class averages were so bad that he curved everyone up 2 full letter grades.
Yeah he's a hard grader, but he's also the only chem professor at east bay that is able to explain exactly what chemistry is about, and what you're doing. Other professors give you numbers and more numbers and expect you to get it. I think it's a lot easier when you understand the significance to the processes.
You have to attend lectures or you wont get all the notes since he deliberately leaves stuff out on blackboard. He gives out extra credit about once every 2 weeks IN LECTURE. Class is curved, structured. Practice the problems he gives in lecture and read over the slides and you'll do fine..
There are three lectures a week and missing even one will set you back and maybe drop you a letter grade worth of information. Information comes by fast in lecture. Midterms are HARD. Entire class averages have at most a 65% pass rate and the least being 50%. Lectures are recorded but they are useless half the time due to bad video feed/angles
I've taken Dr. Pizzini twice 1103 & 2200, I would say once you get a hang of how he grades and writes his exams, then you'll be fine in his class. He is one of those professors who makes you work for the grade, MC q's are mostly conceptual so LISTEN in his class cause that's where he tests you on. Also, Calculations are similar to his examples.
Awesome professor. I had him in Chem 1101 and 1102 for lecture. Really knows how to explain a difficult concept and kept me entertained, a majority of the time. As long as you show up and pay attention and put some work into studying you'll do fine. He curves the grade by the class average.
Mr. Pizzini might seem like a very tough teacher, but his teaching style is one that will help you learn everything you need to know in his classes and future classes as well. I took this class last summer but didn't pass because I didn't put in much effort to his exams. Make sure you show up and take notes. Excellent proffessor!!
Mr. Pizzini's lab section is very helpful and he helps you learn proper techniques that you will use in future jobs. You must be on time and wear your safety glasses when ever lab is in session! Great professor.
The lecture material are insightful to beginners and provides appropriate foundation work to understanding basic chemical applications. All very straightforward (book is an easy read also). However, he doesn't seem very invested teaching students for future careers in chemistry. Don't expect much after class is over.
Professor Pizzini is an great lecturer who is very clear and precise. He knows how to teach the material very clearly to help you understand. He's not easy but he's not extremely difficult like some may say. His exams are straight forward as well. Study the practice problems using different scenarios. would take his class again.
Professor Pizzini is very condescending. While he has the potential to be a great professor, it is hard to learn from him because he talks down to you and makes you feel stupid. It is hard to ask him questions in class. You must go to his office hours. If you are able to see pass his very rude nature, you will probably do well in his class.
I really enjoyed Dr Pizzini, he's a tough grader, but a really good lecturer. Pretty funny, and he explains everything in lots of detail. He's big on learning the concepts, so you've got to focus on broad areas, and his study guides are harder than his quizzes, at least in 1102.
He is the most horrible professor I have ever had the displeasure of taking. His lectures are hard to follow because he goes off on irrelevant tangents about his life. The class average of 102 people is 57% but he still claims it is the student's fault. passed with a B but would never take his class again u basically teach yourself.
Quizes are harder equations than in any homework or ex gPower-points have information that you may not see on the midterm. Midterms consist of 2-3 short answer equations, 15matching ,fill in the blank, and he has 5-6 multiple choice questions. But the multiple choice weighs more than half of the test. Highest grade possible is 65 w/o MultipleChoice
Horrible teacher. I was sad I took him as he ruined my gpa. Condescending and rude. You teach yourself class average was below 50 percent.
i regret 100 percent taking his class. If I had known I was going to teach myself I would have never taken his class. Why am I paying high tuition to teach myself? Ugh
Pizzini is a good lab instructor. Intimidating at first but like any other instructor just have to butter him up. He likes to put the pressure on people, don't think he'll show you sympathy so easily. The key to his lab is to grind through it and not cut corners. Lab reports should be to the point and experiments should be done efficiently.
I never review professors but Dr. Pizzini deserves an amazing one! If you work for this class, and he knows you're working for this class, (going to office hours regularly, asking questions, etc) you're in good shape. I would not have passed if it weren't for him! He cares about his students grades and he genuinely loves chemistry. And he's funny!
He's a good teacher, but goes off tangent. Talks about his son A LOT. Weekly quizzes. His lectures get confusing. He'll teach one way and the book another. He's that teacher, where he'll give you an easy example and makes you do a hard problem yourself. Everyone got an F in the class and ppl passed bc he made almost everything extra credit.
Great personality but he wants nothing to do with you if you aren't giving 100% to his class. Lectures are even enjoyable but the ex problems are conceptual and he leaves it up to students to figure out complex problems on hw and exams. Very disrespectful if he doesn't like your question. Goes by the book and follows rules/syllabus to the letter.
Chemistry is hard. I enjoyed the lectures, and learned a lot that can be applied to other courses. The grading is hard but there is curve. I wasn't able to make it to office hours and Dr. Pizzni arranged time each week to help me. The use of visual metaphors was talked about in class really was awesome. (H20 is like a kitten.)
A very mean professor. Very clear in what he expects out of a student but can be very condescending. He often answers questions with, "you figure it out." He has his kind moments, but I would not take this professor again. Avoid this guy at all costs.
Pizzini is a VERY TOUGH instructor. If you don't have thick skin you might not like his class. He is an excellent lecturer and great person but very particular and sarcastic. Like every class you have to work hard and this is an example of working extra hard. But overall he is great, very organized and detailed lectures.
Dr. Pizzini is a great professor. As long as you attend lecture, do the homework, and do well on your quizzes by asking great questions in lab, you will do fine. The reason not many students pass this course is due to lack of practice. This professor provides a lot of practice problems. Make sure to review all vocabulary from what is read.
The first thing Pizzini said was to "practice, practice, and practice", and to be honest, that is all I did. His quizzes + exams are mostly math, so if you know the gist you will be fine. Honestly, just do the homeworks repeatedly, along with the examples and you'll be fine. If you put in the effort, you will walk out with a B and up.
he has an attitude. doesn't post grades or study guides and if he does it'll be the night before the midterm. ALL TEST ARE HARD. if ur gonna take the class U HAVE TO BE COMMITTED BC U HAVE TO KNOW ALOT so DO NOT TAKE OTHER HARD CLASSES WITH HIM like another science and a math class. he expects a lot from us. SO STRICT. not so engaging
Dr. Pizzini is a good Professor. If you go to lecture and do the hw and stuff you will be fine. He is very specific, organized during lectures. He is serious though, but you know you are there to learn not to be friends with your prof. I recommend 100% trust me there are people who had him then went to some other prof AND they regret it.
The people who don't like Pizzini are the ones who don't talk to him or seek his help outside class. His homeworks help A LOT with quizzes and they really help you understand the material. The exams are a good mix of concepts from his ppt slides and the diff types of math probs he goes over in class. Do the work. Seek help and you'll do great!
Hard professor but a great lecturer. Demands a lot from students but it is rewarding when you do well. Experiments can get hard and there are quizzes nearly every week. Go to SI sessions are there are any and make sure you stay on top of your work! Add experiment data as you do them so you aren't stuck doing it the night before an exam
For those of you who are like "go to his office hours & you'll be fine!". I was one of the few who went to his office hours and went to all lectures. He was not a very helpful professor at all. When you asked questions he intimidates you. In office hours when I asked a question he would ask the question back to me & asked me to figure it out myself
Very condescending when you ask a question. Talks way too loud in labs when there is no reason to, to the point where it's basically yelling. Speaks as if the students are incapable of learning. Do not take!
We're in quarantine at the moment and classes have been moved online. So he has this system where students who can't make it to the lecture zoom online can't access the recorded lectures. He doesn't care if we have a stable internet connection or not; he tells us to go to a cafe or library for internet service, while on quarantine.
"Someone that has lots of time on his hands" is what I would describe him. He purposely overdoes everything which makes it difficult (I don't mean the material, I mean who he is as a person) for the students, himself, and the LAB INSTRUCTOR. He did not care about covid-19 and insisted we all continue lecture in person. Not a respected person.
I took him last semester for CHEM111 and I'm taking him again for CHEM112. The class average for the midterms are really low, I know. But as long as you study and put in efforts, you should be fine. I rarely went to his office hours but I'm still doing fine. Skim the textbook or watch the Youtube videos first if you want, then go to his lecture.
Not the greatest teacher. There's not much of a learning environment, mostly just him talking and occasionally getting off topic. Grades very late. Litterally took 2 months to get a grade on a paper. If you ask him a question, he'll just look back at you and ask you the same question and stare at you. If you can, take the other profs, they're good
He is a very rude person and condescending if you ask a simple question.
He's tough, specific, organized, sarcastic (borderline rude), but YOU WILL LEARN. Definitely makes you work for your grade - I read the textbook, did practice problems, asked questions, and got my A. I took a lot away from the class but there are ways to help students learn without being condescending and making them feel stupid in the process.
This guy right here is a big NO! Rarely gives extra credit, has a smart mouth, assigns SO MUCH. Homework, quizzes on fridays even though his class is not on fridays, sometimes lab doesn't correlate to what he lectures. Very strict on attendance.
tbh he is a terrible teacher. he lacks effort in ways of helping his students succeed. he hates when students work together or learn from other sources that are more comprehendible to them. i would NOT take this professor if you want to not only understand chemistry but also pass the course
Tough and picky grader which helps you learn, but grades so late that you don't know what to fix for the next assignment until it's too late. He has good lectures and is organized. Good personality but sometimes condescending. There are lecture quizzes that lead up to 1 cumulative lecture exam and 1 lab exam.
his way of handling the pandemic was very poorly done. for a 8am lecture class, he required you be present in order to receive a recording of the lecture to look back on. in my opinion i found this very weird & gatekeep-y considering we had just transitioned online (spring2020) and there were people struggling to adapt with school work family etc
Dr. Pizzini's in-class practice problems helped me prepare for the test. You don't have to purchase a textbook for this class because it's available in pdf form and he suggests practice problems from the book to help prepare for the exams. He's lenient with attendance. If you're having trouble, go to his office hours. Don't forget to do the quizzes
Worst Professor and does not care about his students. Very sarcastic and rude. Went to office hours, participated during class and still received a bad grade. He has a very difficult way of teaching his student. I do not recommend!
This professor has been very understanding and helpful to me! He is intense with is class and how he grades. If you class has a low test average get ready for a disappointed dad talk. Do the homework and get ready for bi-weekly quizzes! Go to office hours if you need help! if you do the work and he sees you trying you'll be ok!
Professor Pizzini is an amazing professor. His lectures are heavy, but he explains everything well. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class. The more you participate, the better the material sticks. Definitely recommend his class!
Dr. Pizzini is a really amazing lecturer and one of the professors that establishes the knowledge needed for future courses. He's highly accessible. When I had him, I reviewed the questions from the book as well & it helped. He will sometimes assign extra credit to people who attend class.
He doesnt care about his students at all! do not take
he has a problem explaining which is what a teacher should do. if you can't tolerate your students, what are you doing teaching them?? Very rude and condescending.
This professor will make you work for your grade. I took him in 2021 and he was always willing to help me outside of class if needed. GO to office hours!! He is a no non-sense professor and will weed out the students who don't put in effort. Go to class and do the homework. He will curve if the whole class does poorly.
The professor is very tedious and makes the class more difficult and is excessively hard on his students. He wants you to really earn the grade and he is excessively picky when it comes to grading. He will not hesitate to take off points if you are not following instructions in his class. Do not recommend unless you have to take his class later on.
He's very honest, experienced, and intelligent, ask if you're confused, and don't take shortcuts. I appreciate the transparency he gives which some students might mistake for rudeness because he's blunt and direct. I got a B while taking 20+ units, so an A is very achievable. Be respectful and attentive, he wants to help you, but don't be lazy.
I feel like I would get deducted for points just by breathing the same air as him
His lectures/instructions aren't adequate enough to do well on assignments. If you ask for help you likely won't get it. The class average on most assignments was extremely low and he didn't seem to see a problem with that. Despite spending A LOT of time and effort to do well in this class, I still struggled and got the worst grade I've ever had.
DO NOT, I repeat this, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His lectures are so long and be prepared only to dedicate your time to his class. You would have to take notes on the lectures AND the textbook and the quizzes are so hard even with notes.
You HAVE to read AND listen to the lectures which can almost be 3 hours long. He grades very harshly and expects too much. The creative projects are insane. He grades so harshly and even if you put your heart and soul into it, he will find a way to say your work is not enough or accuse you of using AI or plagiarizing. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
You are graded by a few things but you have to have a certain percentage to receive a pass in any assignment. It will be very, very difficult to pass this class. You HAVE to make sure to have good notes to pass the exams and to do well at least on one project in order to get a passing grade. I suggest taking another class or go t another professor.
He is a very tough and hard grader with having many tests and quizzes. Almost impossible to receive a good grade even with his type of grading.
Edward is a good teacher, but I do not recommend his class if you don't have a good grasp on chemistry. It's a LOT of work so I recommend taking it with very few other classes. He explains the material well and helps you when needed. Like I was able to remember stuff and barely needed my notes, and I'm not a science major.
Does not care for his students. Does not care if you pass. Does not allow any extensions for work. He is kind of rude... I do not recommend this professor. :)
Pick another professor if you can. He is tough one
He gives his students 2-3 tokens for assignments that you may have missed. Awesome. However, you cannot make up for anything when you use all the tokens. Understandable. However, life happens. Someone dear to me passed, and I missed one quiz and hw assignment, on top of that just had a baby. He showed no care. Now I think I am going to fail.
Prof. Pizzini is very rude, whenever ppl asked him the simplest question he responds back in aggravation and attitude. He also assumes "common sense" for almost EVERYTHING. He yells at me in lab a lot for asking for help, and assignments are very tedious because he crammed everything bc he got sick then blamed the class for not catching up.
Wouldn't recommend. Very strict, very RUDE, and not understanding at all. Doesn't excuse anything, doesn't explain well, and expects you to know everything already. Not helpful if you're struggling. Avoid him if you want to pass.
He is a bad teacher, and if you ask Jim a question he kinda gives you an attitude do not take this professor
Could get lost very fast in this class
DO NOT TAKE, Very rude and goes through slides fast and gives attitude over questions.
Do not take his class at all costs. He expects you to know everything by next class and blames you if you don't. Intimidates you if you don't know the answer. No chest sheets at all which gave a terrible average for the exams. Do not take him. If you do, good luck.
This professor made this class unbearable. Expects us to know everything all the time. Every time he handed out midterms back he would go on a 10 minute rant about how bad the class average is without taking into account his terrible teaching. Very RUDE. Expects you to make this course the priority. Do not recommend him to ANYONE.
Accessible outside of classes, I could tell he's really passionate about his profession, but be warned: you can easily get lost and confused on his slides and course. You have to REALLY work hard to pass his class. I would not recommend taking it unless it's the final option P.S: He does curve in the end, depending on how bad the class average is.
This class feels like divine punishment. Study guide has disclaimer saying that there can be topics on exam not on study guide. Extremely dense course, but often goes off on tangents in class about personal life. If you don't do the supplementary non-hw chemistry problems, you will not get an A. Class avg of 54%. Tenureship is his saving grace.
The professor's teaching style helps students capture the course content with funny analogies and storytelling. I like how he walks students through math problems on the board step-by-step and is overall thorough with discussing how complex quantitative chemistry can be. If "Lab Heavy" was a tag, I would have selected it. Trust yourself!
