Learned a lot in this class, although the exams aren't easy. To pass go to class
I hated the class the tests were impossible!!
i thought he was hard and ended up droppin the class
hes ok...you have to read the book...especially if things dont sink in well..

I thought it was a good class....only thing it is hard, have to read the book and go to class and don't think about getting an A on the test they are hard.
Tests were impossible! He needs to understand when it's a 100 level class. It's ridiculous.
This class is really really really hard. If you're not a psych major dont expect to get better than a C. And that's if you work hard. The tests are impossible and he's arrogent. I suggest avoiding taking him for a prof. at all costs!!!
If you take this course you MUST read the book and go to class. His lectures cover material mostly not in the book. I did pretty well in the class, but most people did not. If you take this course use the concept charts and practice tests, THEY HELP!!!
this class is extremely difficult. it is alot of material to learn and pollak is all about lecture. you have to go to class or you won't pass his tests. also, if you go to his office for help, he will only criticize you instead of helping you
He is tough but knows his stuff. The class is a commitment but worth it if the subject interests you.
difficult class, but good professor. reading the book a must- several times. he tries hard to explain. take good notes and study them
Decent teacher, VERY difficult class. going to lectures is a MUST (i went to every class and studied and still did poorly on the tests. He claimed I didn't go to classes when I went to an office hour.)
Tests are absolutely impossible. Talks about information that isnt't even in the chapters. If you ask him for help he will just tell you to either drop it or study more. Class would actually enjoy the information taught if he made his exams more simplfied
I had him for physiological psych in early 90's. Attend ALL lectures, re-write your notes and read the book. Detailed, in-depth tests, know your material completely and let him know you're at all classes!
Though he is a bit hard, the class is really interesting. He does have a tendency to relate the topics to the fact that he plays the fiddle. Overall he is a really good teacher
A pretty difficult professor. Need to go to class and read and reread the book. A "doable" class though. A very nice guy with a good sense of humor.
DON'T TAKE HIM!
a lot of material.kinda cram towards the end.he is a great teacher. I love his class! lectures a lot.makes jokes.good guy.tests are hard though. MUST read EVERYTHING he assigns, take good notes, & go to lectures! Be prepared 2 STUDY ALOT!!!
He sucks...worst prof. ever i had to take it over cause it screwed up my GPA... DON'T TAKE HIM
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is such a joke as a teacher. He thinks you can just memorize a whole textbook. He is way to hard. do not take him. And he will not help you if you need help!
very difficult..i am in the process of takin him please help me.....i wish i had some type of hint toward what im expecting in the future...advice DONT TAKE HIM
Dr.Pollak is a no nonsense man, but he is one of the nicest, understanding, professors I know. If you do not understand just ask him. I think he is the greatest!
Very hard class. He expects us all to be as intelligent as he--imposssible. He is a nice person and fun. I like his class and enjoy him. I am learning a lot, but wish he would make his tests just a little easier. He is tough, but worth it.
ah i dont know about him. tests are so HARD. but hes a good guy so i dont want to say anything bad. hes funny and nice. but if ur not willing to put in the time to read and go to lectures just dont take him and save urself the trouble.
class is very interesting, never fall asleep. tests are VERY difficult, you really do have to go to EVERY class and read the book. nice guy
Expects you to understand the lecture material, expects you to read the book beforehand, expects you to stay awake in class. Oh my, the horrors.
One of the worst teachers I've had so far. Knows his stuff, but doesn't teach the class right. You basically have to teach yourself by reading the long chapters over and over again. I would highly recommend not taking him if you're not in the Psych major
funny guy! tends to ramble slightly. expects you to know your stuff, but will go over it often for those who don't get it (read, don't read the book)
he is not kidding when he says you need to read the material several times - he is not kidding when he says you will need to spend about 20 hours per exam studying (over several wks)- but overall he is a nice guy and if you prepare you can get an 'A'!
Dr. Pollak, is a nice guy, but not such a good professor. He rambles too much about nonsense instead of lecturing on what's really important. He expects you to know the whole textbook as if this is your only class. Yeah right Dr. Pollak ease up a little.
back when I had him, you could still smoke in the building, which he did: one after another, right up until the end of class...I skipped the final and, well, you figure out the ending of that one...
nice man, decent professor. tells you exactly what you need to do/know to get an A, although it is hard work. always willing to answer any question whether it be in person or via email.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!The course was very interesting, however everything you read in the book, he believes otherwise...AND his oppinion is also on tests. His lectures confuse the hell out of you but he'll mention things not in the book that are on tests so ya gotta go.Only + no attendance.
He'll probably read this the first day of class. A nice guy ('Kindly Old Professor', as he puts it). Has a genuine interest in seeing the class to do well as a whole. Does tend to ramble, but knows his stuff. Keep up with the reading and you'll do fine.
ugh. Dont even consider taking him for this class. There are many other psych professors who teach better and help their students. His class is ridiculous. If you need to take him, at least dont take him only once a week. You wont do the reading. Just do yourself a favor and pick someone else
Hard! If you don't come to class, you miss ALOT of info for the tests!! You must study lecture notes and book like a bible! Definitely not an easy course. But if you put the effort in, you will get an A!
Very hard class but he is very willing to help and is really knowledgeable

horroble proffesor rambles seems like he is guessing what to say next hate this class with a passion DO NOT TAKE HIM PLEASE I BEG YOU
I loved that class. He's a nice guy and I learned a lot from the readings, not much from him.
His test are very hard and long. Classes drag on for what seems like days. Do not take him. He always wears the shirt part of scrubs but they have weird blue grass festivals on them. I don't get this guy. He contradicts everything he says. Oh, and to top it all off he looks like Peter from "Guess Who?" the game.
The general requirements for the class were too much. The tests were rediculously hard and to long(about 80 q's per test). He didnt really stick with the general information, you had to apply everything to a situation.
Dr. Pollak is an awesome guy! He's very willing to help and has a real passion for what he does. However, he tends to ramble on & tests are basically from the book not from his lectures. If you teach yourself you're golden. Nice man though - you can go to him for anything.
EXTREMELY helpful professor! Genuinely interesting and knowledgeable. Easy to talk to, and tries to make the class as fun as he could. Maybe he could learn how to work computers better but... Just put the effort into the class and you'll do fine. Don't be intimidated, but don't take his warnings lightly or you WILL fail.
I think his class is pretty interesting, but so hard! I don't care for Bio. Psych to begin with, though. I only had one test (got a 61) and only read the chapters once. I guess I shall try reading it a few times like he suggested!
This is the best psych teacher I've ever had
I took him for Biopsych and Animal Behavior. The key is to make flashcards, read each chapter 2-3 times, and study the class notes. His classes are good for individual learners. He doesn't take attendance- but I wouldn't miss too much anyway. I'd much rather have lectures then do tedious group work.
I love this teacher. Just make sure you don't miss too many classes. And do everything I said below (I had him twice and I like him so much I came back to rate again!)
horrible didnt have a clue what he was talking about horrible................................horrible...........................
One of the best. I was never a science-based psychology student, but I really enjoyed his classes. I think the class is pretty doable. His lectures were interesting. I took him for 2 of my Group II classes. I couldn't handle Psych of Learning- so I dropped it - and did better with Pollak.
Very difficult tests. Tests are the only graded work.
One of the biggest idiots that I have ever had as a teacher. Class consisted of boring tangents and his tests often contained questions that were never taught or in the book. He sent out an email during spring break asking his students when the next exam was then scheduled it for the Monday we came back from break.
not as bad as people say. he tells you right from the beginning you need to go to class, read the chapters more than once and study 12-18 hours before a test so if you know you're lazy and want easy grades you can drop right away. he doesnt keep it a secret that its hard and it isnt too hard if you study a lot in advance&go to class like he says.
If you actually want to learn something and enjoy psychology, take this class. I found the tests very hard but as long as you read the book, take in class notes, and study you'll do fine. You will learn A LOT in this class,
This class has not much to do with PSY. He's a nice guy, but not effective as a teacher. It's lecture only and he is not very clear. He constantly surfs the web and drifts off topic too much. I wouldn't take him again
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Has no clear outline for lecture, very slow and boring. Surfs the web looking for words he can't find. Text wasn't bad to read and you must read and re-read to pass tests.
Not very hard class if you actually go, take notes, and read, but He is of absolutely NO help. He is a jerk and doesn't care about you at all. Big class, but still, if you ask for help, he's reluctant.
I had him for Intro and animal behavior. He is def a tough professor. But he is interesting, and really smart. I got an A in intro and eventhough I got a C in Animal behavior, I think it was one of the best class I have ever taken in my 4 years at WCU
First off, he teaches more on his opion than fact. The first day of class he told those of us who had taken psych in high school that he felt bad for us because he failed our high school psych teachers. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I dont konw how people can not pass his class. He tells you right from the beginning that you must read, i mean you're not in high school no more. I ask for help and he gives it to me. The class is not bad and he will help if you need it. He's a chill guy. If you like things to be handed out to you then you're right this is not the class for you.
He is very very difficult to understand in class. He is constantly switching subjects and teaches more on his own opinion than the fact. Tests are extremely difficult. Would not recommend him at all.
I wasn't too sure of this class at first. However, I found if you actually READ the book, you'll do better than fine on his exams. They are not as hard as some people make them to be if you just read the text.
He is a horrible teacher. He is very unclear and not willing to help you at all unless you are a psychology major. He is on a big ego trip. Don't take him.
Very pompous...thinks he knows it all and just uses the text to rely on making up a test so he doesn't actually have to teach...you would think that someone this cocky would want to make his tests based only on his word b/c he's so full of himself
I don't think he's as bad as people make him out to be-I had him for 3 hours which was def. boring but if you read the book and go to class you should get at least a B-it's all lecture style and 3 or 4 tests.
His Animal Behavior class covers a lot of material and the tests are very difficult, even if you study. Although, take good notes and read the text and you'll pass. The lectures are very boring.
HA. I hated this guy, he was absolutely ridiculous and excepted way too much from intro psych students. I only got a B because I spent about 10 hours studying for every test. He's very arrogant, and a terrible teacher.
I LOVED this class, and i kno a lot of people seem to dislike him - but hes interestin & likable IF you crack his code here it is: you should be VERY interested in psy, read the chapter (or at least the summeries at the end of the chap-most importantly PAY ATTENTION and attend class, don't simply memorize words, but apply & understand the concepts!
difficult exams are usually given by a professor who clearly and thoroughly teaches the material- not in this case- Pollak teaches about 1/10th of the material you are tested on. Not worth your while to take this jibrone
Are you a SERIOUS academic? Take Pollak! You'll love his classes. Just want an easy A? Need someone to hold your hand? Avoid Pollak. It's as simple as that. Only take him if you're serious about learning. I don't recommend him for underclassmen.
He is the hardest teacher I have dealt with so far. i felt like I was a student at U Penn in his class. Very smart guy. Very hard subject and he did not expect anything but total comprehension. I worked so hard and still finished with a C+.
I just had my 1st test and honestly, its not that bad. This is probably one of the most difficult psy courses, but he really makes it interesting (even at 9:30A.M). You HAVE to read..study from the text, show up to class, and study his notes and you will be fine. His test are very doable. Pollack is cool and funny.
worst teacher ever!!! no help whatsoever...do not take him!
Pollock is awesome. Yeah his class is really tough, but he makes it soo much more interesting than the book. hes a really funny, down to earth guy and he knows his stuff. dont be tempted to skip class just bc he doesnt take attendance, his lecture material is on the tests. hes very approachable if you have questions.
awesome guy. material is very complex and has a lot of biology background so it was easy for me. he's very helpful, straight forward. best to read the text before he lectures on it. tests are multiple choice, matching and an essay, questions come from his lecture, reading material and the videos presented in class.
I have him for animal behavior and he is AMAZING! The material is very difficult but he makes it interesting and worthwhile. If you don't like doing work, don't take him (although I am not sure why you're in college if you don't want to do the work) Very enriching, and Pollak has a lot of experience in it. GREAT CLASS!!
WORST teacher i have ever had in my life. he's rude and doesn't care about his students. he was always late and only gave 4 tests. no home, no attendance points, no extra credit, NOTHING! so fail one test and you can kiss your grade goodbye. going to his office hours are useless because he just sits there and checks his facebook.
Hard class. But you can pass. I failed the first test and ended up passing with a C. READ the book. If you do not read the book you will not survive. His lectures clarify the info in the book and makes learning the material easier.
Read the book extensively and before class. Attend all the classes. Take really good notes. Space out your studying and do it well in advance. The problem is that his tests depend to much on the book rather then his actual teaching. Also the tests require a lot of process thinking rather then simple recall of content.

He is probably one of the worst teachers! I had to withdraw in fear of it killing my gpa....notes sometimes incomprehensible and they are all lecture; NO POWERPOINT!! He isn't very approachable either. Also his tests were terribly hard, they had stuff on there not even reveiwed in class! WHATEVER YOU DO AVOD HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!!
do not take him
Pollak is a Psych student's professor. He is an amazing guy. You will learn so much in any of his classes. This is what I expected a college course to be. You're gonna work your balls off, but if you do what's expected, you're going to be rewarded. Tests = hard, so study. They actually portray what you learn in class. Take Psy255 & Psy335 with him.
Had him for Animal Behavior & BioPsych. You have to study for hours & hours, difficult matterial He definitely knows what he's talking about but would be more effective with an outline to stay on point better. Goes off on tangents then circles back - hard to follow. If he used an outline it would work wonders. Is helpful;not the best at explaining
Bio Psy. Read the book alot and take good notes. He's a decent teacher just very hard. All his tests are reasonable except the first.
Horrible teacher!!!! Do not take his class. The test are impossible to pass.
The person who posted below on 5/18/10 is exactly right. Had him for intro, biopsych and anml bhvr. He's not as bad as everyone says, but he is hard. Basically, he expects you to work hard if you want to do well..shocker, it's college.
Great, but he is a very tough teacher, but it's literally the definition of what a college class is supposed to be. To get an A, even a B, you must study a lot and understand the material. He DEFINITELY knows what he's talking about and he's IS a good teacher, his class is just kind of difficult.
I had him for Bio Psych and Animal Behavior. I loved him as a professor. Tests were difficult for people who did not prepare properly (Being prepared means reading, understanding, and being able to recall the text and lectures). I got A's in both classes, probably because I studied and went to class.
Had him for Intro to Ethics. This class was my Favorite the first few weeks but as the semester went on class was boring. If you don't like the topics you will Not like the class because all you do is copy notes word for word from the board. Tests and Quizzes are easy if you study the definitions and arguments. Homework could be very confusing.
I had Dr. Pollak many years ago and he is still one of my favourite professors. I learned TONS of information from him.
