Very Friendly. Tests can be difficult.
He goes way to fast in lecture. He is overly critical on essay questions for a lower division intro to bio class. He often uses words over your head and expects you to understand. He makes biology really "not fun" and overwhelms you.
His exams are a bit tricky, but they're straight forward questions. I suggest taking this class!
He's not the easiest teacher but he helps out a hell of a lot more than the average teacher. He is a very cool person but his test will definitely make you feel dumb
Good Teacher. Labs are fun. Very Helpful. Borts!!
Great teacher and makes class fun. Very helpful and expects participation. Tests are hard though, so ask questions if you don't understand. He's very happy to help
These people are idiots. His tests aren't hard at all. They're fair as can be. I'm nowhere near being the "smart" one in class but you spend all day doin experiments.. all the tests are, are writing down what you've done all day throughtout the semester... so it's common sense... just learn and know what the hell your doing.
Class is everything you expect and then some. Only two tests can make it tough to get a solid A but if you do your notebook regularly which is close to impossible you'll get the grade you want. Overall : class is worth the time!
Awesome teacher! If you are ready to learn and have fun at the same time, then he is the teacher you're looking for. He makes the class interesting and enjoyable!
He teaches the gamut of Biotech courses.
He's your guy if...
1. You like boring PowerPoint presentations on the 1st day of class
2. You love it when your professor relieves his/her past and their youth
3. You want a challenge
4. You want to learn
5. You want a great, friendly, helpful, caring professor -- and a great friend.
I think he's awesome even if I didn't get an A.
This teacher was awesome. His lectures were entertaining, but the LABS were FUN. This class is really laid back. The tests were fair for the course, but don't expect an easy A.
These teacher is super hard! He puts little cartoons up at the beginning of class to make you laugh, then begins reading powerpoint slides. He moves very fast,he reads the slides fast, doesn't explain in SIMPLE terms. For tests you receive one of 3 study guide that actually reflects the material you learn. Tak some one else he wants to fail students
If you want to get into nursing school, this guy is not a good option. He is very unfair on tests, he wrote them just so people would fail, and said "We have to eliminate these people somehow."(Referring to that he wants to eliminate people from having a good chance to get into the nursing program. How can this guy sleep at night?
I'm along with these people here, there were 2 tests that reflected a majority of the info we covered. The final there were a few questions of material we covered. There has to be something wrong with this guy obviously, he appears nice and calm in class, but is very deceiving. He says he wants you to succeed, but actions speak louder than words
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR MICRO!!!!
Dr. Re is a hard teacher. His lectures don't describe much. he gives you little info about the topics. it's like he says the topics and then doesn't say anything to describe him. right down all the topics and then study on your own. very helpful outside of class and will explain anything! he really made me study! i learned a lot!i'd take him again!
Dr. Re isn't the easiest teacher, but as long as you put in the effort you will learn. He's fun and he helps you out if you don't understand something. A lot of these people complain about him because they are used to teachers feeding them with a spoon.
This class is definitely hard and he really made u work for ur grade but I have never learned so much or been so proud of a grade. Hes a really good teacher... if your a slacker you dont have a chance but if you have a goal (nursing) I really think hes the best teacher I've ever come across. Take him!!!
He is an awsome professor if you actually want to learn. He does not give grades away, you need to earn them. Personally anyone who doesn't do good in his class I think probably should have spend more time studying. I mean he goes through the lecture and says know this, or you don't need to know that.
He is fair, and wants you to do well in the class. Also, he will work with you in case of problem arising.
Total babe, say that you like hellboy and you will pass. He has a man crush on hellboy it is unhealthy.
Dr Re is very intelligent and knowledgable in the field of Biotechnology. He was my lab instructor and I really learned alot. Very laid back and easy going always willing to help.
Expect to cover more than just textbook information. His presentations are his own. Listen. He's helpful and open-minded but you need to pay attention. He's fair and willing to mold the material to the class. And.. he likes to talk about his family alot.
I got a C in Re's class. He is extremely fair and you must earn the grade for yourself. Love his motto: "work hard, play hard"...so true. lab attendance is a must, that's where i slacked off and it showed on my lab test scores. people that give him negative feedback need to take responsibility for their effort, or lack thereof. great teacher!!!
Study guides don't cover everything on the test. Even if you know all the material very well, you can still do bad on the test because they are hard to understand. The questions and answers are out there. There is a quiz almost every week. Grades very unfair, no set guidelines for why he'll mark off points. Be warned, do not take a class by him.
He gives you a study guide for the exams, but the way he words the multiple choice looks nothing like what you may have studied from his presentation ot the book...so it's all about totally understanding the material. He is a tough grader, not much slack. Took this class in the summer maybe would have been better in a full semester.
I loved him. He really is a tough teacher, but I ended up learning a lot. He does favor people that "get it" and doesn't have patience for those that don't (only when it's because they don't pay attention). Just study hard, the study guide will help greatly, skim the book, and go over the lecture notes.
I liked Dr. Re's class. As long as you study for the tests and quizzes you should do fine. Some people in the class expected his class to be an easy A. Use his study guides and lecture notes to study. He tests on general knowledge and basic information. Unlike other science teachers, I learned alot in his class and retained the material.
Unlike what previous comments states, I don't think he's a disrespectful teacher. Show him your interested in the class and try to show up everyday. Study the lecture notes and study guides. If your not sure about information, don't write it down or else you will lose points. I would take him again. He's not an easy teacher but I loved his class.
In contrast to what other students have rated him, I love this teacher! His tests are straight to the point and he tests on basic knowledge. Unlike other instructors who require you to know details, he makes sure you understand the basic concepts. I would take him again!
I loved his class! As long as you study the study guides and his lecture notes you should do good in the class. Those who gave him bad reviews didn't dedicate enough time to this class. People thought that micro would've been an easy A, but like any other class you have to work for it. I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Re isn't a bad teacher. I learned alot in this class. In other science classes I've taken, I would memorize the material for the tests and forget it soon after. In Dr.Re's class you actually remember what you study for tests. Study his notes and study guides and you should do good in this class. "It's mind boggling."
Great instructor. Talked to him every morning and did not have issues asking questions.Just be personable with him and he's nice.
He's a great teacher. He demands respect as he gives it to his students. He makes sure you understand the material and gives review packets before the exams. He talks on a personal level with the students to make them feel comfortable. Hes funny and really nice. I would definitely take him again!
Teaches well but tests are very hard. I took him on purpose for a challenge. I'm a bio major so I didn't want to just take an easy teacher bcus then I won't learn anything. Re doesn't give study guides anymore, he gives a quiz every week, he demands respect, and has a huge ego. But he's a nice and funny guy. Gave u a chili pepper dr re lol...he reads these things btw.
Dr. Re is a very good teacher. Yes, his test are pretty challenging, but he's always open to his students. He'll spend as much time as you need for you to understand the material. He's a very people person. He's the type of teacher that isn't afraid of being friends with the students. Which is AWESOME.
Pretty laid back in class, helpful in terms of giving you a heads up about quizzes. Does not let you keep your exams to study from. Drawings on board are not helpful as there are no clear lecture notes and are totally reliant upon power point. PP's have absolutely useless information you have to sift through when you study.
really interested in his subject, so it makes it easier to learn. tells interesting stories about his own personal experiences, which also makes it more accesible.
Dr. Re is the bees knees. I took him because I heard he was challenging but good preparation for four year universities. Expects a lot but it's not that hard if you study regularly.
Dr. Re is the bees knees. I took him because I heard he was challenging but good preparation for four year universities. Expects a lot but it's not that hard if you study regularly.
Dr. Re is an awesome teacher, great experiences to add to the material makes him especially interesting and he makes you want to do a great job. Learned a lot, I am taking him again! Would highly rec. him for any science, super smart cookie!
I would not reccomend this teacher, not helpful at all, does not seem like her cares about the students, seems like he hates his job. His study guides are useless.
When Dr. Re says you need to know EVERYTHING, he means it! He seems strict at first but is fun after the first couple weeks. He says you need to study and you do. He doesn't use the book, posts lectures online. He posts study guides too but they are more notes and not very helpful. Extra credit opportunity... DO NOT procrastinate on!!!
He thinks way to highly of himself! His lectures confuse you as he uses terms out of a bio 2 students vocabulary and doesnt explain them. Plus his labs dont teach you anything, half the time you dont even know what is going on in lab. His tests are freakishly hard and you arent allowed to study off them for the final.
Dr. Re made microbiology fun with his enthusiasm and experiences. Very knowledgeable and overall great guy to talk to...
Great teacher.Very interesting lectures and really enthusiac person especailly about his field.Only problem is that you have to supplement with the book. His lectures seem to be more about getting you to think about all the posibilities of biology and to get you excited enough to go home and study. Really awesome teacher if ur a bio major.
Very laid back, extremely friendly and wants his students to succeed. Pay attention when he says "Need to know this for the test" or similar key words--he means it! Overall, enjoyed his class and makes class very interesting!
You will learn a lot if you take Dr. Re. Read the book before class and take notes on key things that you read. Use his quizzes to study for the final and when he says to know something, know it. Amazing teacher. I would highly recommend him.
The class was challenging but very beneficial. He really wants his students to learn and is super funny. He is personable in helping you understand material. For labs, review the Lab manual on subjects beforehand or you'll be lost. Study from the book chapters with notes. He is a niners fan. He will make fun of Lakers fans. But all in good fun. :)
Dr. Re was one of the best professors I have come across. He made this class. The class is very challenging, however he is eager for you to learn and willing to help resolve any questions or issues, just ask the question. Also study with slides, notes as well as book.
Dr.Re is an excellent teacher! The laboratory class is long but he helps you during labs and makes the labs very fun and he is super intelligent. There are 2 exams, one midterm and final and gives you some assignments to do. You keep a lab notebook and he expects to keep it updated and in correct format for points.
Whoever reads these ratings about this professor will find some people that like him and those that don't. Professors are humans, so i do understand when they have some students they identify better with. However, unlike any other professor I've had in my life, he doesn't care if you are an A student. He is partial.
Dr. Re is awesome! Yes, the class is difficult and there is a ton of work, but he makes sure you know the material. He is very helpful when you ask him to explain something you don't understand. He's passionate about helping his students succeed. He has high expectations, but he is getting you prepared for a UCCSU. Be prepared to study hard.
Nepotism is all this man is about! He treats some guys as his BFFs, but it doesn't matter if you are a good student. It all depends if he likes you as a person. If you like sports andor hellboy, you will make the cut! That simple!
You will see that some people like this professor. I don't like him at all and I'll explain why some people do and some don't... You will like him if you like chatting with him about anything that does not pertain the subject. If you like jokes, sports, and NEVER go to his office for help; then he is ok. He doesn't like to work, period!
No help here whatsoever! If he likes you as a person, not as a student, you will have his help. But if you do not make the cut... you cannot ask any question! He is a bully! Has screamed at me many times and for no reason. He seems very unhappy with his job and takes it out on some students who make him work. A very lazy man! Mean too!
Professors have always liked me because I work hard, am interested in learning, do all my work. This is the first time I encounter a professor who: doesn't want to help students at all, complains about his job, the school he works for, shows favoritism, yells at students, doesn't answer any question through emails (even the yesno ones!).
His labs are awful: only helps the students he likes. Any question IF answered, will be something like: "we will discuss this later", but it never happens. Mean person, very, very moody and thinks he is super smart. Has a huge ego. Complains about the school all the time. I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT HIS ISSUES! I need a professor!
He is very disrespectful to his students he doesn't care for. He is a smart ass and will talk your ear off! One of the worst teachers i've ever had. Doesn't care about student success. Only cares that everyone knows how much he hates his job! I didn't learn anything and had to drop.
Not sure what some of the other reviewers are talking about as he is helpful and straightforward in his presentation of course material. During lecture he mentions important topics/materials we need to know for exam. So far i am doing well in the class (microbiology) and would recommend him to my friends.
Dr. Re is a real nice guy. He is a very well respected professor . However, this is no easy class that requires time and effort . Plus there is alot of reading and comprehension that goes into taking this class. Based on my experience in his class I wouldn't mind taking his class again.
Very nepotistic man who doesn't take his job seriously. He gets distracted easily and talks like if there's no tomorrow. His tests and quizzes contain material that wasn't discussed in lecture, and he doesn't respond to emails. His loud, obnoxious voice will drive you mad - and yet he has no control over the class. I couldn't stand it and dropped.
I love Professor Re. He really cares about his students. His class is not at all easy, but I learned so much. You do have to dedicate a lot of time to his class, but its well worth it.
I really enjoyed Dr. Re's Bio 2 class. He's usually pretty upbeat and clearly outlines expectations for the course. Learned a lot but no means is this an easy class.
This course is tough. Ed did not tell us what chapter/pages to read. I never missed class but I was so confused & ended up dropping. The tests are hard & labs were beyond difficult. I am really great with biology but he expects you to know so much. Unclear lab instructions & I felt like I missed an intro before the first day. Need more Bio teachers
Dr. Re is one of a kind, he loves his job and is always wanting you to ask questions. Best professor I have ever had by far, mainly due to the amount of detail and insight he gives. You must read! His class is challenging and his tests are very detailed. If you read, take notes, and do your lab journal each week, then the class is very enjoyable.
Dr. Re is an expect in his field, and he wants to set up his students to succeed at a UC. With that being said, Bio 02 is NOT an easy class. Dr. Re has high expectations and challenges his students to think. Students who read, take solid notes, and study will pass his class.
Dr. Re is great person, incredibly knowledgable however I think he could've helped his students a bit more. He gives study guides to the lab and lecture, however the study guides were not always clear.
Dr. Re is an amazing + hilarious person whos done a lot for the college. However, Professor wise he is not very good. He thinks everyone in the class should be on his level when it comes to knowledge of bio. Exams are too difficult due to this. This is the INTRO bio class. He expects you to know things that are not in the book.
Dr. Re is a very good teacher who truly loves his job. He expects a lot from his students and encourages them to do their best on the tests. If you try your best and make sure to pay attention in class, take good notes and read the textbook, you'll pass. He gives a lot of extra credit, especially when he knows that the class is working hard.
I honestly respect him. He is very clear and upfront. He demands a lot from you because the science field does. He gives you what he expects and if you deliver then you will pass. Recommended to read before going to lectures and to work on lab notebook early as it piles up. He is great and caring. Hands down will take him again. Amazing.
Very caring and fun professor. Can see that he genuinely gets along and pays attention his students. Asks for a lot but is very clear about it and hints to test questions and common mistakes. If you stay on top of your readings and lab work then you will do great. also gives study guides and extra credit. Would take him again
Prof. Re is such a cool guy. He does expect a lot of his students but if you study then you will be fine. Tests are kind of difficult but studying weeks ahead will def help. Lab can be confusing but if you ask him to explain, he does an excellent job on clarifying. If you ask him questions in general, he'll make it so that you understand more clear
Hes rude, talks to much about his personal stories and life, says things are on his lecture and their not in terms of filling in study guide. Acts like you should know everything. He isnt organized says one thing then changes his mind and doesnt like to be wrong.
He is intimidating, but a pretty good teacher. He wants you to know your stuff and isn't afraid to answer questions as clearly as he can. Make sure to read the required texts and feel free to ask questions about what you do not understand. Make no mistake, he is not always an easy professor to deal with. To counter this, always show up prepared.
Dr. Re is a great professor. I had him online for Microbiology with a lab due to COVID-19. His subject is hard, but he is very fair and really emphasizes the points he wants you to remember in his lectures. He also gave opprtunities for extra credit. I really respected him and his organization, reviewing, and lecture types.
Authoritarian style of teaching. I took his class while a full time school & working two jobs to support myself. After getting offered my dream job I was informed he told my peers I must interview well because I didn't deserve it. He left a lasting impression . He made an already difficult time in my life more painful. Can't remember much else.
good prof
Professor Re is a gem! Biology classes are always challenging but Prof Re is knowledgeable and understanding. He does try to get you thinking critically during lectures. He's great with answering questions and he gives you study guides for the exams, they have a lot on them but he gives you time to work with them. Stay on top of the material!
The tests are divided into multiple choice and essays. The essays have to be elaborated using scientific terminology and organized ideas while ensuring to meet the time limit. Some questions are critical thinking prompts requiring a high degree of comprehension. You'll end up with a strong notion of the cell, metabolism, bioenergetics, and genetics
Dr. Re seems like he would be fine for an in person class, but online classes aren't his thing. Lots of material on tests that we hadn't started learning until the following week. He's really understanding, but we didn't do much learning in class. Be prepared to read the book and learn close to nothing about labs if online
Dr. Re is a good professor in person. He knows a lot and can answer any of your questions in person. He cares about your mental health and is very understanding as long as you talk to him. He talks business then talks about his personal life and stories a lot. Hard class but he makes it bearable. Tests are really hard, but he prepares you.
while he was difficult and you definitely need to read the book over his lectures, he's accommodating and easy going. definitely take this class as a group rather than individually.
Dr. Re is straightforward about what he expects from students. In BIOT 405, he expects his students to apply the things they learned from lower division biotech. His lectures are like mini review sessions. The tests cover topics from lecture. He also has you read articles. If you participate and turn in assignments on-time, it's an easy class.
His lectures are somewhat impossible to follow after a while since he just scribbles on the whiteboard. He is really funny and can keep you engaged most times. His exams are straightforward and he gives a detailed study guide which is great. He crammed 3 tests into the last three weeks of the semester which is silly to me. overall, good guy though
Overall, Dr. Re is a great guy who genuinely wants his students to succeed! His tests are straightforward, and as long as you put in the work throughout the semester, you'll do great. My only complaint is that his test pacing wasn't that great. He crammed three in the last two weeks of the semester which kind of sucked.
Lectures are non-linear and a bit confusing, he spends half of class telling stories. Gets annoyed by questions. Very lab focused, and leans into the biotech aspects. Labs are confusing if you've never taken a biotech class. A big part of grades is your lab notebook, its a lot of work. Will meet 1on1 to go over exams and give extra credit.
He is not very helpful to his students and it shows. He doesn't explain things well and seems to expect you to just know things.
Moody Professor. Does not like questions. Also tried to persuade me with advice that was not helpful to me nor was actually reflective of my career goals.
If you want to take a really chill bio class this isnt it, There is a total of 6 exams where the last 4 are shoved in your face in one month. Lecture exams force you to 3 short essays per exam, (3 paragraphs each) + 50 multi choice in 1hr n 30 mins. Expect labs to be more purely Bio Tech related. He is a really funny guy but work is overwhelming.
Dr. Re is punctual and is honest with his students. Upon showing initiative, extra credit will be offered. Tests will be hard, which is a given, so be prepared as always. Study the material two weeks ahead at least. Also he gave me free coffee.
