He is a great teacher, but the class is kind of hard
He is very nice and intelligent. Don't waste time with notes, just read.
alright teacher, but the class is useless
No Comments
I had no trouble with his class, although I've heard from many other people that they struggled a bit. I enjoyed his class and he gives extra credit opportunities. Make sure you show up b/c attendance is graded!
Interseting subject. Do the extra credit assignments. 1. up to 6 points for responding to extra credit questions on each of 4 tests. Up to 8 points for writing a 2 page paper on video. (bring tape recorder) it helps.
GOOD AND INTERESTING TEACHER, DIFFICULT TESTS, BUT OFFERS ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT
He's pretty fun, but the class is not worth going to. Just read the book. ALL OF IT!!
easy, multiple choice tests, lots of extra credit and review sessions. read the book and go to reviews and you'll ace it...oh and go to class or get someone to sign for you.
Most hillarious guy i've ever met. Come to class, and make sure you read the book thoroughly, and you'll really enjoy his class. Great for Psych majors.
Very challenging class. Make sure you read the book. Really funny in class. Tests are hard but he offers alot of extra credit. Good choice if you really want to learn.
Dr. Sabin is a golden god.
Great professor. The movies for extra credit are interesting and would recommend you go to them. Where else can you get such easy points? Good sense of humor which makes class go a little faster.
Read all the assigned pages and you will be fine. His test aren't difficult at all if you read.
he is very funny - his test are all multiple choice and he offers a review hour - an all around great class to take
He is really funny in class, but you really have to read the whole text to do well on the exams. Going to class and only studing notes will earn you a D in the course...
If I didn't get extra credit for going to class I would never go. Taking class notes is really unnecessary, just read the book. No matter how much I study for his tedious tests I still get C's. I'm glad for all the extra credit though
Very funny. Always is incorportating comedy into his classes. His tests are very, very hard. When studying, you can almost disregard inclass notes. **Read the book.** I study my butt off and still do poorly. Thank goodness for extra credit.
funny, not too hard, and good extra credit
Great teacher. Very, very funny and nice. Tests are hard, but there is a ton of extra credit to keep you doing well...as long as you do it. Take this class! It doesn't matter who you are, it's a great time.
Sabin rocks my socks... i adore him and i never get better then a C on the test, shows how nice of a guy he is.
This has been my hardest class so far. If you didn't get extra credit for going to class, I would say don't go. On numerous occasions, I just sat there for a few minutes so I could sign in and then left. READ THE BOOK! That is the only way you will pass his tests!
Tests were really, really difficult, no matter how much I studied. Sabin's grading scale is also really tough, but he offers a lot of extra credit. He's pretty funny, but class is basically pointless.
The tests are difficult but be sure you read the chapters and show up. Offers a lot of extra credit to keep you doing well and has a pretty cut and dry grading scale. Tries to make class fun.
This guy is a very fair teacher. He offers loads of extra credit so you should be able to get an A if you are putting in at least some effort, and you go to class. In addition, his course is interesting as is he.
He is a very funny teacher and makes the class interesting. His tests are very hard. He does offer a lot of extra credit.
Class is fairly entertaining, tests are really hard. Class average of around 73%. There is extra credit but it is still hard to get a good grade in this class.
Lectures tend to be long and sometimes boring but he tries to make it as interesting as possible. He's pretty funny. You don't have to go to class but you get extra credit for perfect attendance (signing in). The tests are pretty hard but if you read the book and go over your notes you should be fine. If you're willing to do some reading, take him.
Great teacher! He really trys to appeal to his students in his lectures. Read the textbook. It isn't necessary to take notes during lecture, but I recommend going simply for the entertainment. He does give extra credit for attendence, which can make a BIG difference in your grade. I would definitely reccommend.
Awesome class. Slept through lectures and read the text. If I'd read the text as I should have I would have pulled off an A. Tests are hard, but if you read the text they're no problem. His lectures are funny- they can feel a bit long sometimes, but he tries his best with the material.
Definitely just read the chapters the test are over and you will do fine. Lectures are not mandatory but he is a pretty funny guy if you decide to attend.
Class isn't mandatory, but if you miss more than 3 he takes off points..just find a friend to sign you in and thats all you need. Just read the chapters for tests and you'll be fine. He's a pretty funny guy to so class isn't that boring if you do decide to go. he also gives quite a bit of Extra credit opportunities.
Very good teacher...classes are not mandatory, but useful. However if you go to every class you get 15 bonus points. Gives many extra credit opportunities which are pretty easy to do. He's funny and tries really hard to make class interesting. If you read the book you'll do fine.
An awesome professor and advisor. He has a great, dry wit, and you can miss his jokes if you're not listening. He shows interest in his students and has so much enthusiasm for the material!
Dr. Sabin is a great professor. His tests come right from the book, with a few questions from lecture because the topics weren't in the book. He made the lectures interesting and he was always cracking jokes. Attendance is important!!! He does provide extra credit opportunities and I recommend you use them because then you are almost guaranteed an
Professor Sabin is fantastic. He takes attendance, but all you have to do is sign in on a sheet. But his lectures are usually entertaining so it isn't a major chore to go. Just read the chapters in the book and you'll do fine.
Sabin is an interesting guy who teaches a very straightforward class. No need to pay attention during lectures because all the test comes straight from the text. ATTEND THE REVIEW SESSIONS! There are plenty of extra credit oppurtunities, so take advantage. Make sure to go or have someone sign you in for attendance, the extra points are huge.
Good guy, kinda funny. Read the chapters for each test and you will get an A.
Ed Sabin is a great teacher. His tests arent bad as long as you read the whole chapter and ATTEND THE REVIEW SESSION!! the review is great because they basically tell you EVERYTHING that is on the test. His movies could use an update but overall its fine. Great class! I Highly recommend!
Dr. Sabin is a really funny professor! This class was very interesting and he made it enjoyable. I didn't read from the book much, though I should have but I did a lot of extra credit which should DEFINITELY be taken advantage of. 5 tests, noncumulative final. Take him if you can!
I'm not sure if you can get a bad professor for PSY101, but Sabin was definitely a good professor. To get an A you need to attend class (lots of extra credit), READ THE CHAPTERS, go to review sessions, and go to extra credit opportunities. It is an easy A, but don't underestimate the difficulty of his tests. Definitely a good class though.
This is a great professor! He makes his lectures both interesting and funny! You DEFINTELY need to read all the chapters in order to get an A. Make sure to attend the review sessions because you'll find out everything that's on the test. There's a lot of extra credit too, which you can also earn just for showing up to class every day.
Must go to class, but honestly you don't really need to pay attention or take any notes. Most people use it as a study hall. Test can be challenging and you MUST study the chapters in the book thoroughly!! However, he offers a ton of extra credit, making it very easy to get a good grade in the end. He is a very funny teacher!
Great teacher! He is very funny and interacts with the class. Tests are moderately difficult, read the book! Attend class because you get credit, and it's usually a lot of laughs. Extra credit is offered. Test reviews tell you EXACTLY what to expect on the test. He makes even the most boring topics funny and interesting.
He is very clever, kind and funny. He does that weird thing where instead of saying "while", he says "hwile" or "hwat" pronouncing H. weird. but he was a good teacher.
Attendance is mandatory (you sign in on a sheet), but you can miss a few times. If you have perfect attendance, though, you get extra credit. Besides, his class is usually extremely interesting and can be fun, so you'll want to go anyway. You have to study for the tests, though, and read the material! Overall, great teacher, great class.
Dr. Sabin is such a nice guy. His class is straightforward. You must read the text and attend class. Tests are very long and detailed but if you read you will be fine. He is humorous and the material can sometimes be dry but overall I enjoyed my time in this class. I reccomend this teacher highly. He is a nice, caring professor.
He is such a nice guy and amazing professor. Class is mandatory with a sign up sheet. He is sweet so sit close and try to participate. It is a very big class and it is easy to sign your name and leave. His jokes are so dumb that they are funny. Best Psychology professor.
Very entertaining professor. Lectures can be boring at times, but overall he tries to make class interesting. If you read and take notes on the chapters and listen to most of the lectures, you'll do fine. Grade is made up of five tests and you can retake your lowest scoring test at the end of the year.
Going to class is the worst part of the class. But you have to go to extra credit. You should have your laptop and do work for another class or play games. The test is based on the book. If you can, take a different teacher.
Dr. Sabin has a good sense of humor. The class can be a little boring, but the material is interesting. You will make an A if you just read the text book. Still amazed at how many people do not understand the concept of reading a text book...
Lecture is extremely boring, but he tries to make it interesting. He tells really bad cheesy jokes. If you read the textbook and know the vocab words, you should do fine on the tests. PLENTY of extra credit to bump you up one or two letter grades, and the extra credit involves going to class and/or watching movies.
Really funny guy. Tells a lot of jokes and tries to make class interesting. Lectures every class and takes information straight out of the book. You have to read the book and learn all the vocab to do well on his tests.
Dr.Sabin is great! His class is pretty easy and he tries his best to make it somewhat interesting. Go to all the lectures, read the book, learn ALL the vocab and you will do great. Also gives extra credit for attendance and reflection papers for movies(played outside of class time).
There will be 5 exams throughout the semester, 1 for every 3 chapters. Read in detail. He will give less detailed lectures than the book. His exams are multiple choice, not tricky but he pulls details directly from the book. You can retake the exam with the lowest score. Some dedicated freshman's called this their hardest class.
He's a pretty easy teacher, all tests are multiple choice and there is lots of extra credit available.
There are much better psychology teacher at SLU. I never learned anything during his lectures because he is too determined to try and be funny. His test are disproportionately hard compared to his lectures and they are based completely on the book. Lots of extra credit available though. Take another teacher if possible.
his exams are disproportionately harder than those of the other psy101 sections. to make up for it, there is a ton of extra credit offered. he is pretty boring, and the exams are based primarily on reading the book IN DEPTH. if you don't learn well that way, take a different section.
have to attend class but almost everyone does not pay attention and does other homework or does stuff on their computer. tests are based off the book which has very long chapters that are time consuming to read. extra credit is available for watching certain movies and writing a reflection and for perfect attendence
Try to take another section if you can. I really didn't learn much from him. Tests are straight out of the book, nothing from his lectures. After the first test I stopped taking notes and did other homework or read the book during class. He offers a ton of extra credit to make up for the hard tests.
His lectures are so irrelavant. You have to go to class but just work on other homework. His tests are hard, and they are based SOLELY on the book, not his lectures. There is a ton of extra credit offered though to make up for the tests so you should be ok as long as you do decent on the tests. I've heard there are better sections but Sabin's ok
In my opinion, the exams are very difficult. Lectures are confusing and does not go in order with the book's subjects. Attend class because he asks questions on the exams about what he said or a video he presents. Can be funny. Exams are long, 80 questions but you get a chance to retake one at the end of the semester. No cumulative final.
Dr. Sabin is a funny guy and one of my favorite professors this semester. His lectures can be very boring at times and you don't need to pay that much attention. For the tests, read the book and memorize vocab and you'll be fine. Also, he offers extra credit for showing up in addition to easy movie reflection questions.
Dr. Sabin is a very funny guy and all but his lectures do not correlate with his exams. If you especially LOVE to read the book then I highly recommend, if you totally hate to read like me then do not take his class. You will have so much reading to do, but he gives alot of extra credit.
definitely an easy A if you're willing to put in some work outside of class reading the textbook. make sure you go over the sheet he gives for each chapter that has key words and objectives on it and you will do fine. he also gives a ton of opportunities for extra credit
Snore. Prepare to sit in mandatory lectures and do nothing, because all he does is repeat what's in the book. On the flip side, if you read the book, it's an easy A and a fairly informative class. The tests are straight out of it, by the way; read it!
His lectures are very random and most of the time do not relate back to the tests. The tests are extremely hard even if you study every night for a week beforehand.
Sabin is not the best professor, there's a solid chance you won't retain anything from his class. His lectures are really long and he has an incredibly monotone voice so it's a bit of a challenge to pay attention. Most people pay attention the first three weeks and then everyone is on their laptops. Tons of extra credit available, easy to pass.
He is not that great. Lectures do not even cover most of the material on the test. Best way to approach this class is to just study the book and go to class for the credit. Do the extra credit opportunities. It's easy to pass for sure.
You have to read! His lectures are all over the place and are not helpful at all. His test questions are straight out of the book so reading is the only way you will pass. He offers a lot of extra credit and allows you to retake a test. It's not hard to get an A as long as you read and do the extra credit.
He's a great guy and very interesting to listen to, however his lectures have like NOTHING to do with what is on the test. So even though class is interesting, there is little incentive to actually listen. READ THE BOOK.
Get ready to read. A lot. He has 5 tests and they are all based on the textbook. His lectures only cover around half of the questions he asks. He offers a lot of extra credit but you must attend class. Pretty difficult class for an intro to psychology course.
Knowledgeable and entertaining professor, but PLEASE read the textbook thoroughly. The tests only cover a minute portion of his lectures. On the flip side, he offers a lot of extra credit. Make sure you complete the research requirement early, as many of my classmates who started this late struggle to complete it.
Super nice teacher, but kind of boring lectures. I did other work during most of them. I used the textbook a lot to study and the tests were sometimes tricky, BUT he gives a ton of extra credit so you could fail a test and still get an A. You also got to retake your worst exam.
This class is not rigorous, but it REQUIRES you to study. You have exams roughly every 2-3 weeks and they are your only grade in the class. I didn't really study because I prioritized other courses (Calculus II, which I have an A in...). You can receive a max of 30 extra credit points out of a total of 400 (exams are 80 points for 80 multi-choice).
VERY boring lectures, and VERY reading/ test heavy. You WILL have to put in the work. Honestly, hard course for intro to psychology?? I thought it would be easy because I took psych in high school, yeah no. But it definitely shows you the intro to college life and how studying/tests work here. Wake up call for sure.
Hard work to get an A but doable. There are exams every 2-3 weeks over 3 chapters. His exams are taken heavily from the book, but there are also textbook powerpoints & practice quizzes on blackboard which are EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Lectures are interesting but almost nothing pertains to exams. Attendance sheets.
His tests are mostly just testing you on the vocabulary. He had great and really funny lectures sometimes, but its not necessary to pay attention every time. Lets you retake your worst test and offers extra credit for attendance.
Sabin's lectures have nothing to do with the exams. Exams are very specific from book and he offers ton of extra credit so you can still do well. Decent class for a gen ed psychology.
Super nice and funny guy. He makes the lectures interesting. Attendance is super important though.
Dr. Sabin is super cool and tries to be funny, but the lectures can be boring. His tests are hard so as long as you put in work outside of class, you'll be able to get a good grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
If you have the chance to take a class with Ross instead, take it. This class was my most challenging and needed a lot of studying. It was possible to get an A, but I've only heard of a few getting an A. This class was always one I was stressing about. Dr. Sabin kept lectures somewhat interesting, but it was a large class with just a powerpoint.
Dr. Sabin is humorous. His lectures are interesting but could get boring. He hands out key terms and learning objectives for each chapter. His exams are multiple choice. They're not too difficult as long as you read the book. The chapters are long but worth it for the grade. He gives a ton of extra credit, and be sure to complete SONA ahead of time
So boring however! Very clear and explains things you might not get. But the lectures do not help at ALL! read the textbook and take good notes! Attendance is only good for the extra credit given! He also has extra credit movies to watch and papers on it!
5 exams, 80 multiple choice questions each 400 course points total. The exams are very tricky and hard. If you don't want to read the book like me, thoroughly study the review slides the TA's make. My testing average was 78% but with the tons of extra credit from attendance and film reports, I got a 90% in the course. This class is NO JOKE.
This class was mainly run by the 2 TAs, he made the video lectures, but didnt grade anything. Discussion post, 2 responses, and a short worksheet is due every week but its not hard. Theres also 4 overall projects. You havent to write a resume, personal statement, career development plan, and a report on a presentation. Finished with an easy A
Tests were impossible, lecture had nothing to do with the material, ended up dropping the course and taking the W.
His tests are manageable as long as you take notes on the book and maybe go over the slides that the TAs post. His lectures don't really matter and you can spend them doing other work or just messing around. Extra credit will get you a long way so plan accordingly
Other psych classes got open note/peer tests, while we had hard 80 question exams. Lectures are irrelevant to the test, READ THE BOOK to get a decent grade. You can get an A if you work for it and do THE EXTRA CREDIT. He is not helpful and class is only run by TAs. Overall, frustrating to have to work so hard in GenEd. Take a dif. prof if you can!!
Go to class to get the attendance extra credit, but you can do other work. Your grade will jump 10+ % if you do all the extra credit. Take another professor if you can because most others offer easier testing styles. To study for the test, read the book and memorize the TA review slides and you will be fine. Way too hard for a GenEd psych class tho
He is very kind and knows his organizational psychology. However, his voice is a little monotonous, so it can be difficult to pay attention. He posts all the slides. You MUST STUDY the textbook and powerpoints because the tests are heavily based on them. He does give a lot of extra credit opportunities to buffer for how difficult the tests are.
Psych 1010 classes taught by other professors don't have tests, whereas tests are weighted very heavily in Dr. Sabin's class. They're open note but ask specific questions that he doesn't cover in class. His lecture slides are often memes which makes it more entertaining, but is not an effective teaching style. If it wasn't mandatory I wouldn't go.
ALL TESTS ONLINE, so do what you want with that information. His lectures are not great but not horrible either. You also have a few short papers that are not graded harshly. Other than the tests and papers there is no outside work for his classes. If you want an easy A take Sabin.
Dr. Sabin is a very boring professor. He tries to make jokes during lectures to make them more fun, but the jokes are not at all funny. If you're looking for a write-off class, this is it. You don't need to buy the book, all exams are online, and all he does is lecture. BEWARE: the final is a 20-page group paper!!
Easiest A ever, only downside is that lecture is mandatory. He is such a sweet soul, tries to make jokes in lectures All exams are online, had 2 papers which were simple. He is an easy grader. Idk what the last comment is talking about with the 20 page paper, I did not have to do that. Did not need to read the textbook or pay attention to class.
Nice and funny at some points. You have to sign an attendance sheet every class for participation points. Exams are online and open note.
Exams are online but use lockdown browser. Doesn't offer any extra credit and lectures are so boring. Attendence is mandatory and he just reads off the slides for an hour or will show short video clips. Exams aren't terrible but definitely not easy. Even if you look up every answer, there's no guarantee of a good grade.
Such a sweet guy with a very passable class. So easy, tests are online! VZery sweet and adorable
Sabin's class has challenging exams, but the ample extra credit and lenient grading make it manageable. Utilize the TA's review slides and unstuck study for test prep - it really helps offset the tricky questions.
Very boring lectures and didn't end up grading half of our projects. He's easy but you don't learn much.
long lengthy lectures that get boring after a while but still not bad. only graded by tests and 2 extra credit assignments. i recommend going to class for the general notes then studying in depth later, tests get pretty specific. funny guy tho, just talks pretty monotone and a little drawn out
