Trip is really one of those Profs that gets you thinking. In his class, the discussions were about the ideas, not just quoting some dead guys. When I considered transfer, he really helped put things in perspective. A great professor and person.
easy professor.very nice guy and very helpful. class is easy
Not an easy subject to grasp but easy/fair/understanding/nice guy. Easy A if you show up. Class in discussion/group format. one take-home, one paper
Best philosophy teacher ever!!! Makes class fun (talk about the Matrix and stuff). Exams are fair! Trip McCrossin is the best!!
Very helpful, he's always available. Just show up to class and you'll be fine. One take home exam and one final essay
This guy LOVES to hear himself talk. Talks about nothing but terrorism/ 911. All you hear is "blah, blah, blah." Goes into way too much detail. Lots of reading, but an easy class. Take home midterm.
Really cool guy. His name is Trip. I think that says it all. But if he ever wears something besides an oxford with the sleeves rolled and a pair of khakis please get a picture of it. I think his closet is like that scene from Batman where he has like 10 duplicates of his costume.
I LOVE TRIP!!!!!!! Greatest teacher ever!
Really great teacher. Really lets you get your say in. Works off the comments from the class. He likes to talk a lot and often talks in circles, but thats cause he's a philosopher...what can you expect. Easy A if you go to class.
His name is Trip. I'll let you decide if its a hard class. :)
this guy is the ****ing man, best class i ever had, ta's are great too
he is the nicest guy ever. he's always willing to help and is always willing to listen to any problems you may have. very caring guy. easy class too.
One of the easiest teachers I have ever had. In every class, I would fall asleep. THREE WORDS: TAKE-HOME EXAMS. He gives you the answers and so do his TAs. Recitation is pointless, I never went. Philosophy lectures are boring and hard to follow. Extremely nice guy and is always willing to help.
This man is a genius. He is the best, most helpful professor I have ever had. He teaches his class in a way that lets the students decide what they want to learn. Its an easy A if you go to class and do the 2 essays. Going to recitation is not necessary, although the TA's are helpful.
Trip is the best! Great teacher and easy grader. I never showed up to recitation and still got an A in this class. Take this class. The take home midterm and final are not too tough.
For a writing intensive course, I was shocked when the only writing assignments we had were the midterm and final, which were takehome by the way. Did I mention he literally gave us the answers to those exams in lecture? This class is fabulous if you hate going to class and writing papers.
This is ABSOLUTLY the easiest course i have ever taken at RUTGERS. its a 4 credit course that u only have to go to the class before the take home midterm and final are due because he gives you the answers!
Really nice guy, although he doesn't make sense most of the time--likes to be really eloquent and wordy. Theres only a midterm and final, but they're really easy. Just show up, and you'll get an A.
What a guy Trip is. He knows what he's talking about, and the midterm and final are both ridiculously easy. As long as you go to the review for them I don't know how you wouldn't get an A.
Let me start out by saying Trip is the nicest guy and always willing to help when he can. That said he does tend to talk ALOT and say the same thing a million different way...he is very intelligent though, so what he's saying is usually true. Easy class, Easy A, nice guy. Take the class.
Trips crazy...I wouldnt take this class unless you have a nice TA to help you out...
likes to change the class policy throughout the semester. Whenever he give you a deadline, he always ends up changing it the night before. It got frusterating. It is an easy class though.
Trip is a great philosopher, a horrible teacher. He rambles on so much that you get lost in his words and forget what he was talking about. If you do not have a great TA that is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help you out, chances are you won't do to well on the exams and paper. This class is very unorganized, almost a joke.
Incomprehensible, spends 5 seconds on the readings and then talks aimlessly for the rest of lecture. Can't make up his mind about assignments, and always changes things at the last minute. Wastes a lot of your time.
I took the class just for writing requirement, got an A.But its thanx to my AMAZING TA JOE CORABI take him if u can!Trip is capricious about dates and assignments and crap, which sucks, but he is a very nice guy and answers emails as best as he can. For us he had 2 take home exams and a paper, which was due AFTER the class ended lol!musthavegoodTA!
Trip is a great teacher. the class is very easy and he gives all the answers to the take home exams a couple days before it is due in class. Easy class I would take it agian for the GPA boost. Easy A
had him spring 2005..easiest A I ever got.
This class was sooo easy. Trip's lectures go on forever and after 2 minutes you stop listening to him, but his tests are take-home and/or in class. Such a great GPA booster, especially since it was 4 credits!!
very helpful
Had some issues that prevented him from fully focusing this semester. Easy grader, just one paper. Format is very open-ended, which is not as good as it sounds.
Trip is such a nice guy, hes a very laid back teacher. Only took attendance toward end of semester. Take home final and online midterm. Easy A even...take him.hes awesome
Best class ive taken at rutgers. Highly recomend taking this class.. TRIPS THE MAN!!!!
One of the nicest professors at Rutgers...TRIP IS THE MAN!!! he will help you out whenever you are confused. He sometimes uses VERY BIG words that are way over the students head, but he will clarify for you if you don't understand. DEFINATLY take this class!!!
BEST GUY EVER! There are philosophers and then there is Trip. A lot of ethics professors understand ethics but they lack virtue. He attempts to push the class toward his Kantian views. Push him to explain his views thoroughly. He ignores emphasis on grades due to his deep focus on substance. Take him, and leave college with some virtue.
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE! HE IS SO NICE, INTERESTING AND FUNNY...GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS HE'LL TALK TO YOU FOR AS LONG AS YOU WANT! REALLY INTERESTING CLASS...I'M MAJORING IN PHILOSOPHY BECAUSE OF HIM!!! :)
Far and away one of the best professors I've ever had. Genuinely inspiring, not to mention brilliant. I had him for Current Moral and Social Issues. Not only does he present a nuanced and comprehensive overview of direly important ethical issues, but he doesn't rest until you've got it too. You'll finish the term changed.
By far one of the best professors at RU. He's interesting, engaging, and passionate. Not to mention a big help when you need it. Nicest guy ever, but I am convinced his closet must look like Ronald McDonald's....if you ever see him in something other than a white button down and khaki's...IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!
Trip's great, but I have one criticism: he doesn't encourage us to think critically and develop our own thoughts. He essentially walks us through his philosophical framework, and asks us to regurgitate it on the take-home exam. He's not forcing people to agree with him, but there is no opportunity for students who disagree to express their views.
easy class, great GPA booster. Trip's super cool and really easy going. Midterm and final (take home)
Trip's class is very easy. Two take home exams. Took attendance maybe about three times. I would have liked to see the class engage in a little more discussion, but he spent the majority of the time talking. I agree that he didn't exactly let us express our opinions in the exams...he wanted to stress only morality. But overall, good guy and class!
Here's the thing about Trip: he's such a great guy with so much passion and info he wants to share. Consequently, when we're pressed for time @ sometimes he gets a lil incoherent. Just Do the readings, ask questions(he makes himself pretty available) and you'll get an A. I missed class a lot but I regret it b/c the material is great.
great guy, smart guy. good class highl reccommend him. Trip is a down to earth guy he knows how college students are and will be real with you. I enjoyed coming to his class very much, he has some interesting stuff to say. Thumbs up ^_^ any class he teaches is going to be ballin'
Great man, he really had a profound impact on my life. I strongly recommend taking one of trip's classes. The man is brilliant.
he is the nicest guy evar. but SO boring. do not take this class! unless, of course, you're the kind of student that likes easy As. it was just a waste of time for me.
Trip is an amazing Professor. He really enjoys teaching and it shows. Extremely helpful and engaging during office hours. His class is NOT boring if people in the class actaully take part in the discussions. If more professors were like Trip humanity would be much better off.
Trip is an amazing Professor. He really enjoys teaching and it shows. Extremely helpful and engaging during office hours. His class is NOT boring if people in the class actually take part in the discussions. If more professors were like Trip humanity would be much better off.
Has an amusing proclivity of keeping his fingers very active when explaining things. He tends to over-articulate things, sometimes providing no additional recourse to concepts that Kant himself tries hard, but abortively, to explicate. Nonetheless, he is enthusiastic and truly concerned about his students, which is about all you can ask for.
Horrible! He allowed all his personal issues in the classroom which affected his teaching and our learning. He constantly delayed the midterm- I didn't even know my grade until right before the final exam! If he doesn't want students to take his class for a joke, he should take it more seriously himself. Long Winded and Extremely Disorganized!
If you are at all genuinely interested in taking a course this man teaches you can not go wrong. He may go off on tangents, but these are helpful, not detrimental to the learning experience. To those who wrote they are bored in his class: if any effort is made by students to steer the discussion to an area of interest Trip always accommodates.
Very easy. Take home midterm and final. Class is not very informative and no one ever goes. Cancels class due to personal issues from time to time. Teaches very little in class-mostly talks about current events and the "arguments in them". No homework, no projects, or group work. Always wears a white shirt and tan pants.
Easy class...attended once and got an A. His lectures are painful and don't make any sense. take-home final and mid-term using textbook not lectures at all.
Trip was an easy professor but he always cancelled class last minute and it took him forever to get our takehome midterms to us. He would say they'd be done so we could start them but he changed the date tons of time. Overall he was a good prof, go to class for extra credit and stay because sometimes he'd make you check your name off at the end.
He is a wonderful professor!! If you have a chance, take a class with him. He truly cares about his students, unlike many other professors at Rutgers. He is a bit disorganized and he knows it! This class was very easy and interesting. Take it!
Does not care about his lower level students at all! I received a 95% on the take home mid-term and I attended almost every class. I felt I did well on the take home final (at least a 90% by his standards) and ended the class with a B+? He would not allow me to see my Final and kept crying about being too busy to go over it...its been 2 months
Horribly disorganized and very biased. I consider myself a liberal, but even I couldn't stomach his ridiculous opinions. If you're looking for an easy A, its just one midterm, one take home final. Just be prepared to cringe as he rants about the compassion of terrorists and makes up excuses for not handing back a midterm for weeks and weeks.
take this class. hard material, but he is sympathetic to that. Barley went, wrote two papers (6-12 pages length)and that is it.
Really disorganized. Did not get the midterm back until the week before the final, and he lost mine. It's an easy A, but I learned absolutely nothing and was constantly frustrated with his teaching and incompetence.
Looking for an Easy A class with doing absolutely NOTHING take this class. NO textbook and NO notes. Take trip hes the man
Great professor very understanding and always willing to help. The material is not easy but if you go to class and read 50% of the reading you'll be fine. Take Trip!
He told everyone that he went to Cuba and the Cubans told him that they loved communism. If I went there and asked they would tell me the same thing, or die. The other students started to chime in "communists are lazy." I thought I would die of embarrassment! What does that have to do with philosophy, anyway? My Friend stormed out and took an F.
trip is the best, definitely is more concerned about you learning than just giving a grade, he's always willing to chat online about things and if effort is made an A is definitely in reach
Great prof and interesting material. He doesn't force his beliefs on people, he just challenges them to think about things in a different way and encourages conversation. Very very very far left so if you are right wing, I can understand why you'd get annoyed with this class. Great experience and easy class though.
He's a very nice guy, but so disorganized... classes were painfully boring and went nowhere, he lost my final which we had to EMAIL to him... gave me an A because he felt bad... Told my class he wouldn't give out anything lower than a B, so only take this class if you want an easy grade/for a requirement, not if you actually want to learn something
painfully easy.....does that make sense?
i took this class for an easy A, but it was waaay to easy. no book, no exam, no homewrok, no course work. he is very disorganized, rude, and cut and dry in office hours. i think i would've actually liked the class, if an other prof taught it.
This class is in no way easy. However, Trip is there every step of the way to try and make the experience enjoyable. If you show up and put in minimal effort while showing Trip that you actually care about the course you will do very well.
Sign up for this course, don't ever go, and get an A. Simple enough?
Most pointless class with a teacher who is just as useless. He rambles on about nothing. No books. No notes. The class has no structure yet everyone gets an A or B.
I went to class like 3 times the whole semester and got an A, and i'm those kinds of people that not goin to class bites you in the ass. The definition of an easy A!!
Difficult class! But it wasn't Trip's fault since Kant is difficult with anyone. Trip is a great professor and he really loves what he does. Not an easy class but Trip is very helpful
Not an easy class by any means. Unless you're capable of inhaling and exhaling without assistance, in which case you ought to do very well.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He was easy before, but he has gotten really hard now. GO to class. The difficulty rests in his total disorganization and lack of structure, and the unpredictability of in-class vs take home exercises. DO NOT TAKE FOR AN EASY A, you have to work quite a bit and still may not get an A.
This class is not worth the headaches. Supposedly it's an easy A but when he basis your grade off of three quizzes done on the last three days of class after teaching you NOTHING, it becomes more difficult. He's rude in person. Do not take this class.
he doesn't really care about the students whatsoever. 3 quizzes on the last 3 classes of the semester and the highest grade he gave out was a 90, which is what you need for the A, so if you get one B+ at all, you're screwed. his quizzes made no sense but if you try to reason with him, he'd just brush it off. overall, very aggravating class
The previous comments seem to be from students who were idiots. The three quizzes consist of two which he gives you the answers to in a previous class. The third one is simple. So, unless you can't read you should get an A in the class. Just attend, participate and take notes. He is very nice and helpful!!
Kant is dense, boring and just wordy. Trip explains it well and helps you understand him in a way that you can actually speak and write about him. Take it, you won't regret it.
A little unclear at times, but only because he prefers depth in class discussions over laying things out for you as simply as possible. So actually DO THE READING to get the most out of his classes. Laid-back. Don't be rude in his class by texting (also a pet peeve of mine) and he's the nicest guy ever. Cute too, in a distinguished-older-man way.
Took him for logic reasoning and persuasion.Biggest BS class i ever took.I got a B+ doing absolutely nothing. Signing up guarantees you at least a B+ if not the A.I think he just hands them out randomly.Had four quizs, first 1 didn't count because every1 failed. take him just to get the easy grade and 1 less class to worry about during the semester
such an easy A... worth taking if you are overloaded with other classes. just show up on quiz days, no final exam.he is boring and lecture is annoying but worth is for a easy grade. the class is full of athletes - self explanatory .. take him !!!
Trip is probably the most engaged teacher i've had at Rutgers. He is not a professor whose teaching so he can research, he is a professor who is there to teach. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to really learn, not memorize. As long as you go to class you should be able to get a good grade. Definitely ake him!
I took him philiosphy of the arts, it was basically his first time teaching this particular topic, he was a little unprepared, but overall he is a great speaker, it wasnt really boring at all since this course is mixing with philiosphy and art but hes chill guy, assign two papers, not a hard grader, very easy to get a B, if you want an A work harder
i took this class as a gpa booster and it was a headache because he is very disorganized and our grade was based off two assignments only. He talks really fast and is passionate about it so if your not into listening lectures on such topics, you will be bored. He's highly opinionated even though he says our opinions matter.
I took Logic, Persuasion, and Reasoning, and I loved the class. It was really laid back and I thought the way Trip lectured was interesting. A lot of people thought it was boring though. You'll get an A just from attending lecture, don't miss it because he'll has surprise quizzes. Awesome guy
I'm not sure if I took the same Professor as the other people who commented here. But Trip is the worst Professor that I have ever taken. He canceled class on a weekly basis and when he did show up had students lecture for him. He was very unorganized. If you are genuinely interested in the material look somewhere else. Be aware!
Agree with last reviewer: did not teach, had students present readings, never got what he meant b/c he was wordy and took so long in getting to his point that I forgot what he was saying by the time he finished, when class isn't cancelled, it's a huge waste of time, and you have to teach yourself everything: stay away!
Trip is a true philosopher. He speaks elequently, clearly, and most importantly, he is open. He might be an easy grader, but if you are going to school just to get by and get grades then his classes aren't for you. If you want to see philosohpy at its best then you will enjoy it. Best professor ever!!
Great professor! Im in his current social and moral issues class right now and he's great! Very funny. Skim the readings & speak up in class, you'll be fine. I strongly suggest taking anything with this guy. He's awesome
Took him for an easy A, but my grade is pending and the whole class has no idea what's going on. He really is rude and unorganized and you literally learn nothing in this class except the concept of boredom. Everyone failed his dumb scantron assessments and stress comes with the grade uncertainty
So this was supposed to be my easy A. I did get the A, but not without a few headaches. He assigns a ridiculous load of readings and only uses about 1/10th of it for class. Take notes during class if you can. When he's passionate, he just goes on and on about 100000 mph. Show an attempt, take notes, he'll be merciful and you'll get an A.
EASIEST CLASS EVER. GUARANTEED A JUST BY SHOWING UP, AND DOING DECENT ON ASSIGNMENTS. FRIST FEW ASSIGNMENTS ARE SIMILAR TO THE ONES IN CLASS, SO CANT GET ANY EASIER THEN THAT. GREAT GUY, EASY CLASS.
Trip teaches is a very unstructured way. You will almost exclusively find his lectures useless and he assigns a lot of reading which he never goes over. You will do the bulk of the work for this class on your own: 1 long paper or 2 short ones. He is a very kind man.
Easiest Class I have ever taken at rutgers. You kind of have to go to class to sign in or have someone else do it for you. He gave 6 quizzes instead of 10 and dropped the lowest 3 grades. 3 of the quizzes were right out of the ones he taught in class. Easy A
Simple class, have seen a lot of people cheat; don't recommend doing that though because you really don't have to if you just pay attention.
Great class, often lets you out early or cancels class for various reasons. Class is 100% quiz based so attendance is recommended.
Intelligent, generous, and cares about his students. The importance of the subject matter is questionable but he encourages critical thinking like any great philosopher should. Easy B, at least.
Easiest A I've taken so far at Rutgers. I showed up to half the classes. He have 6 quizzes this semester and dropped the lowest two. He posted the answers to over half of them prior to the quizzes.
You have to attend every lecture and if you miss one when attendance is taken you are screwed. Sometimes a passage can occur during when there is no quiz and if you miss that class then everyone knows how to pass the quiz but you. So go to class. It takes a lot of effort. Critical thinking is needed. NOT AN EASY A. DO NOT BE FOOLED! REQUIRES WORK!
He is very unorganized and takes forever to grade the assignments, which makes no sense because they are scantron. He really never answers direct questions and you're usually left with more confused than when you initially asked the question. If you are planning on taking this class for an easy A, please think again.
He's so disorganized. Made us buy a $20 app which was never even used. The scantron filling out process is harder than the actual class. Previous semesters were easier it seems since most of the exercises were from class. If you're taking it for the humanities requirement just pay the extra money to take Dance Appreciation or Theater Appreciation.
If you value your life and your time, don't take this guy. Originally when I signed up, he had almost a 5 for easiness so I was expecting an A. I was so wrong. Your grade is based off of 2 in-class writing paper. Sounds easy? yeah no. He asks 1 question that is so broad that you don't even know what the question is asking. don't take him. Got a C
If you're thinking of taking this as an easy A, do yourself the favor and look in another direction.
It's a meaningful class. If you want an easy A, don't take it. If you want something that broadens your mind and makes you think about things you didn't care about before, then take it.
The class is totally subjective. I aced Expository, but this class was something else. If you agree with his ideas and his idea of teaching you will do fine. nonetheless, with a few headaches, i did manage to get a B+.
i can't stress enough not to take this class. seems easy and Trip is a great guy but the tests are extremely difficult with no leniency. do not take. thought it would be an easy A. after i realized how the tests worked, I studied very hard for the other 7 and still got a bad grade. horrible.
This class was great! Professor was great! LOL
I wish he was more educated enough to talk without going off on run-on sentences. This guy seriously can fit a story in one sentence. It's not that he's talking fast but that he just doesn't stop talking. Take a breath dude. Learn to speak so that your students can understand. Even in his emails, he has AT LEAST 40 commas and 1 period.
If you want to learn, I don't think you will find much here. Seriously. I feel like I wasted my money and time by sitting in this class. I thought this class would get me thinking but honestly he needs to get his teaching together and actually teach instead of rambling on and on. Trip, if you are reading this please re-evaluate yourself for next yr
McCrossin's LRP course is a tough rate. Going over material in class seemed easy, but then impossible on the "exercises." I also went to every class period, but he cancels several. He's always available for questions. Took this class for an easy A, but fell way short. Don't stress failing, but a good grade isn't guaranteed.
Aan interesting class, however Trip doesn't give a very clear layout of how you are going to be graded. He has a very long, confusing "syllabus." In order to do well in this class, you MUST participate regularly. There was no textbook but he posts (long) readings online, ask which parts would be essential to read, without it you will be lost.
Not very good at explaining material in lectures. Most students don't know what's going on or what he's talking about in class. Most just guess or copy off other people that are guessing as well. The only positive thing about the class is that he curves your grade by a lot. If you can average around 50 or more you should finish with at least a C+
No organization! You may or may not have tests, homework, or papers. He gives you short notice of anything. ended up with an A in the class but was frustrated the whole time at his disorganization. Don't miss class, he grades according to whether he can recognize your face.
He speaks for what seems like forever, and never clearly gets his point across. His "exams" are not known about until 2 days before. He grades extremely strictly, as in he wants specific things written on an essay that's supposed to be the students' opinion. Doesn't allow technology in class, not even for notes. Not an easy A. Do not take his class
easy A
Had no idea how we were being graded in the class until about halfway through the semester. We were graded on in class papers and the grading criteria was extremely unclear. The paper that I did best on, I had no knowledge of the topic, while I knew things about the other ones.
Every day in class someone asks aloud, "does anyone know whats going on?" and is answered with a unanimous "NO". There are no tests, no homework, and no textbook (which sounds great but actually sucks), no real references to study from. Only a ton of quizzes in which he has graded one (after withdrawal period). DO NOT take this class, it KILLS GPAs
I really enjoyed the class and the topics discussed were important and relevant. Trip McCrossin is very kind and cares his students. Would definitely take again and recommend to others.
He taught basically one lesson and based the whole semester out of that. He had an unorthodox method for his quizzes that caused tons of people to fail. I didn't understand anything. He didn't tell us our grades until the very end because he never graded anything. It was all crazy.
Be prepared to attend class and have discussions. The course will be based on stories selected by the professor. He expects you to read them or have read them in previous years of study. No-one ever knew what to expect each class. You will not know your grade until the end. Hopefully, you will pass!
You HAVE to go to class. He doesn't take attendance but if you don't want to read the 98 page philosopher readings he posts then show up, it's the only way to get an A. I went to every class and took the best notes I could ( he does talk ALOT ) and got a B+ on every mini quiz he gave. My participation got me an A. Its a good booster class.
I don't know why ANYONE gives this man such horrible reviews. His class is insanely easy; just show up, take good notes, and study for the quizzes. Please, TRUST ME you will never be bored in Trip's lectures (if you participate). Lots of interesting topics and discussions that make you think.
Its only so hard because its all SUBJECTIVE. Some people naturally think like him so they know which answer is "right" even though technically all the answers are right for different reasons. He wants nothing to do with office hours and if you ask for help hell say "don't worry about it theres a huge curve." So you're just preying on the curve...
Don't take this class at all. I've never received a grade lower than a B- in my whole college career and this class I am at an average of a 52. Horrible professor, he grades his class based on about 10 "quizzes" that were harder than anything I've ever taken. They make no sense at ALL. The scantron was very confusing on how to fill out. DON'T DO IT
The class is basically one lecture of learning during the beginning of the semester and the rest is just regurgitation of the same ideas. No one in my lecture had any idea what was going on even at the end of the semester taking our final quizzes.
No home work but you should really practice what he does in lecture. It's kind of good for GRE stuff just saying. He can be kind of unclear but if you ask him he'll clarify. Sometimes he uses old examples for tests. He wants his students to do well and I would def do extra credit (and there is a HUGE CURVE). And he's really cute too; which helps.
I wish I had more space to write about this man. I have had a lot of teachers in my life, but none quite like Trip. He wears the same thing every class, all semester, speaks very enthusiastically and entertainingly. Yes, you NEED to go to class. He's very free-lance and he's the classic professor that will pass you if he likes you. Very good.
Decent professor. Midterm & final Essay exams. Easy A if you go to class, study for exams, you're good to go.
Trip is a cool professor, however, if you decide to take him make sure that you actually pay close attention. He just goes on and on and for me it was hard to pay attention to him. PARTICIPATION MATTERS!!! If you don't like to participate, DO NOT take this class. He gives 1 extra credit and 2 exams. Also the way he words his exams is confusing.
Had for an Interdisc Hon Sem, Personal Identity in Phil & Pop Culture. Was rly unorganized & cancelled half the time. He'd talk for hours (about nothing) and we'd chat a bit. Optional midterm paper and a mandatory final one (10 p). Never knew what was going on and I didn't know anything about my grade until final grades came out. Readings optional.
During class the professor just talks on and on for hours and it is very hard to stay alert and understand what is going on. You HAVE to attend class because attendance matters if you want to pass. Not just attendance, you HAVE to participate. His tests are in class essays, and he doesn't tend to end class early. He assigns long boring movies.
Trip's a cool guy but man, the passages you read can be so subjective. Also, I didn't figure out how to fill out the scantron until like the 3rd week with the help of a friend who already took the class. I have no idea what my grade will look like because he raised the class averages or something? Who knows. And apparently there's EC so go to class
Trip is a good guy but do not take this class unless you want unnecessary stress in your life, trip is unorganized and does not give back grades efficiently
Grade was entirely based on quizzes every class. Lectures were confusing and he goes on tangents a lot. Good guy, but so disorganized. Quiz format is confusing so make sure you get that from the getgo or else you'll fail the quizzes.
no extra credit, quizzes and their format were the absolute opposite of LOGIC, would pray to get hit by every LX before class would start
Ive attended every class to date, I sat relatively close to the front, and Ive payed attention to him as best as possible. Still couldnt tell you wtf is going on in this class. Hes cool and all but its all subjective, nothing to study from, and the scantron format does nothing but stress you out. Had to withdraw for the sake of GPA. Dont take
The way Trip worked for my class is that he would assign readings and then talk about the readings and answer questions during class. If you did the readings, you learned a lot. But if you didn't you'd be lost all class. If you make the most of the readings and his office hours, it'll be a great class. Overall, Trip is a great guy and a good prof.
Good Professor for Social & Moral Issues. The course is lecture-heavy thus attendance is mandatory. He gives an in-class midterm essay exam, a take-home & an optional final exam. The exams are will be extremely easy if you attend lectures & do the readings (2-3 page each). He's an easy grader on the essays but the exam requires effort. Great Prof
Trip did not hold office hours until the semester was over. He told us our grades would be in by our 8:00AM final and they were posted at 7:32AM. We had a few quizzes this semester, and he recently sent out answer keys for them. We were limited to the front of one page, hand-written, but his answer keys were multiple typed pages (single spaced).
Loved his class, had to take for a grad requirement so I just wanted a passing grade, but I actually learned a lot. He assigns reading which he goes over in class. Attendance is not mandatory, but vital to getting a good grade. Mostly what he goes over will be on exams so make sure to take good notes! Try to participate it will boost your grade.
Overall a solid experience, a very kind man, but he was often late. The curve was huge, too.
He didnt do anything all semester which was great until the last week of November came around. He crammed the entire semester into one month which was super stressful, on top of that he didnt post a syllabus until Dec 7. His quizzes were worded in ways that made absolutely no sense. I really regret taking this class just to fill a requirement.
Trip was a terrible online professor. He spent all of class lecturing and complaining about lecturing. He doesn't accept student suggestions or opinions, waited months to give us a syllabus (that wasn't helpful), announced quizes last minute (one time he did it at 1am), and I have yet to receieve a single grade. Maybe he's better in person....
Maybe It was because of online classes but Trip a mess this semester. The class seemed easy at first (1st assignment Nov 23) however Trip crammed the entire semester into a month, with rushed badly worded quizzes and only posted the syllabus Dec 7th. Trip does have relatively interesting opinions however I would not recommend taking this class.
From the beginning, McCrossin was lecture-heavy leaving little room for student questions. Professor McCrossin was unorganized with Sakai and also waited till the last few weeks of class to start giving us assignments with less than 24 hours' notice. And NO OFFICE HOURS! Overall, such a terrible experience. I wish I could give him a 0 rating :)
I literally have no idea how I passed. He is a very nice person and he is clearly very passionate about what he teaches. However, if you do not pay close attention from the beginning you will be in trouble later on. The assigned readings are ridiculously long so if you do not like reading do not take this class.
All you have to do is attend class and participate. He clearly stated this at the beginning of the semester as well. He's very passionate about philosophy and he wants you to be as well. If you don't want to participate, avoid him. If you skip a class, you could miss a crucial date. This was stressful for me. I'd definitely recommend though
Professor McCrossin is my favorite teacher in my life. I love the man dearly for everything he taught me and I loved his classes. I learned so much from him, but more importantly, he allowed us as students to learn from each other. I felt relief walking into his class, even though it was class and there was work to do, I loved every moment of it.
I dont know what people are complaining about but this is one of the most laid back, and supportive professors. He doesnt assign repetitive garbage homework and only asks for participation for credit. If you just show up and put the least amount of effort its surely going to be a decent grade with an enjoyable expereince.
the class wasn't hard by any means but it was really boring. trip repeated himself all the time and would rant about topics that could be summed up in two sentences. I got extra credit because I turned on my camera and participated in class every now and then, (bumped me from B+ to A) so participate and try not to fall asleep and you'll be golden.
Had Trip 2020 Fall semester online. Absolutely terrible. Did not give a graded assignment until the end of November. Had extra credit that helped me raise my grade from a B to an A. High ego, can be very rude to students when you ask about how he grades. But participation during class helps raise your grade. Do not recommend it at all.
The entire class was graded on just one paper. This was a summer class, and he only lectured for roughly 4 hours combined through the month, didn't really teach or even talk to us just gave us a bunch of readings, and the most open-ended prompt I've ever had. Absolutely no direction, was very lost throughout the class.
This guy made going to a 9am enjoyable. Students had a lot of say in the direction of the course and he allowed students to express their thoughts and ideas. However, he is slow with assignments and feedback.
Topics were interesting and Trip is clearly knowledgable. Many thought-provoking discussions. However, evals were few (2) and extremely difficult, you won't get an A unless you say what he wants to hear. PLEASE participate at least once every lecture and do the extra credit if you want an A. DO NOT take this class as a blow off.
Trip seems cool at first but hes honestly a mean person. I watched him scream at a student who did not speak English to put away their laptop, they had no idea what he was saying so he kicked her out infront of over 50 students. He has no class direction, its April and I have only taken one exam. His class is not something to take for fun/credits
Super unclear grading criteria and does not provide a concrete syllabus. Graded on very few things so make you do well on those few assignments. Does offer extra credit at the end of the semester which is really helpful if you're on the border of the grade you want. Overall disorganized, but it's clear that he knows a lot about the material.
Very unclear grading criteria and very few grades in the class total. Unorganized and only received grades at the very end of the semester after already completing all the assignments so there is no chance of improvement. Do not take as an "easy A" course.
Unless you are a English major, do not take his class. His classes are not an easy A. If you do not like participating in class then avoid him. You have been warned.
This was one of my favorite classes. Trip is so engaging and passionate + super funny and down to earth. He is amazingly kind and patient with this students and with the material. The stuff he teaches really matters and he does it well. You have to show up and engage, keep up with the conversation, and he recognizes the effort. Take it if you can!
If you need to satisfy a requirement, do not take philosophy with him. After 2 classes, I dropped his class. He looks like Gordon Ramsey. Not an easy A. His lectures were very useless and it is hard to understand the subject.
If you do not participate each class, then the best grade you can get in his class is a C. If you are shy or hate talking, then avoid his class. Lectures made no sense. I know English is important in terms of reading, writing, communicating, but learning Philosophy seems like a waste of time.
Yaps for 2 hours and then ends class. No grades/assignments for the entire semester except a final project/paper which I'm assuming if you do well on, it's basically your final grade. I only participated 2/3 times and still got an A. Class is as engaging as you want it to be, you can easily get away with not reading/watching the materials.
Engage with the class and you'll do well. Professor is passionate about the material, so participation is key. unstuckstudy was a great study aid alongside the textbook.
Interesting discussion topics, but poorly run class. There was only one quiz (4 essay questions) and an optional final, no assignments. The grading criteria were vague/subjective, and no lecture notes or review guides were posted.
No assignments and only one quiz, no grades posted until December.
Subjective grader, doesn't give As, and only put in grades a few weeks before the finals. No slides or visual aids, it's more like he talks at you than with you. Look for someone else than try to take this class, his grading approach doesn't give you a chance to do better if you're failing.
We only took one quiz, which we got the grade back in December, and had an optional final. He's very lecture-heavy, so all he does is talk and have us discuss things but their no slides or visuals. You do get a participation at the end. I would advise you to take another professor for this course.
Graded us on one quiz and focused very heavily on in-class information and discussion. He is passionate about what he talks about but grades you based on how well he remembers you. You have to participate a lot in order to get a grade that earns you an A in his eyes. The topics we discussed were at least interesting and made you think.
No assignments all year. One final paper. Must participate and can't be on the computer. No lecture slides or clear instructions on anything. Trip is passionate about the content, but it's not worth it at all.
This guy definitely is on the Autism Spectrum. Nothing wrong with that, he just unaware that nobody is processing the information coming out of his mouth. Bizarre lectures, comes up with midterm questions on the spot. No slideshows, no notes, literally yap sessions with weird esoteric thought spirals. Ok guy, but by far worst teacher I've ever had.
Honestly loved the professor; he was funny and interested in the material. Grading system sucks though. He only puts in like 4 quiz grades, barring the final, doesn't explain how to prepare for them, and doesn't give anyone a high grade. Also, grades come out in December. Interesting course, but I wish I hadn't taken it just because of grades.
If you're looking for a class where you actually learn social issues, this course fulfills those expectations. While the grading criteria is unclear, the quizzes he gives include information in the lecture, so if you pay attention you'll do well. NOT AN EASY A, DO NOT TAKE FOR EASY A. If you want an A, you have to participate all the time.
Trip is truly passionate about the issues he discusses in this class and he helps you see them from new, unexpected perspectives. Definitely not an easy class, but if you can gain a genuine interest in the topics it's not difficult to achieve the effort and participation needed to do well.
