He's is the nicest guy ever...will give you a letter of reference!!!
Doesn t master well the topic especially in coporate finance issues
Extremely misleading teacher. The worst.
Edward Wong is an interesting guy, he totally doesn't tell you what he wants for assignments, but if you give him more than what you think he wants, you'll get a better mark for it. Best bet: just give every assignment your hardest effort.
Very demanding; assignment not clear; good knowledge; hard work to get good mark; Best of luck
I love this teacher. He gives a lot of work. Assignments every week, midterms cover all of class material, usually have presentations rest of semester. He knows his stuff though. Very smart guy, always willing to give you extra help if needed.
Teacher gave a lot of hand in assignments but they really increased learning. The teacher really made an effort to get to know students and was a good reference. Also a great academic advisor. Overall, I would take him again but maybe not two classes at a time since his courseloads are heavy.
Teacher is very knowledgeable, gives great explanations. Even remembers every students name. Assignments every week, final case exam is a killer. Lots to do...
very helpful and smart guy, he knows the stuff, very funny and modest, never mentions that he holds CA, CFA designations, and a fancy Western Ivey MBA degree. very much approachable to students. Although you have a lot of work to do, it is quite worth it if you want to keep the stuff after the final.
Prof. Wong is an excellent professor. Expects much from students, but is perhaps the only prof. who actualy prepared me for international work. His case classes are extremely real world oriented, no theoretical answers fit the format. You will put in much work for this class, but in the end it is
Too much work for a very little reward (too many assignments for a total mark of 15-20%)
He is not very clear about the assignments' requirements... Would not answer a question if he does not like it... Seems to have knowledge and experience but does not know (or doesn't want to?) share it with students... I'll try to avoid taking him in a future!!!!!
agree with what previous classmates state about him in 402 class. Avoid him if possible.he is also a hard-marker. he said he had never gave anybody an "A".
you will learn very practical skills from him. the content prepares you for future Job if you are not going for PHD. My only real world education in JMSB Finance. Only in his class, you will learn how to apply finance in real life and get confidence. So sorry that he is leaving us. big loss for JMSB!!
Dont you guys find it weird that both Lebel and Wong are leaving JMSB and they both end up winning the teacher awards for 2004-2005? Anyways, good prof.

a pity that he's gone now, a great loss for JMSB!
Great teacher! Those below who critique all the work he gives should go back to grade school. You came to University to learn and work hard. JMSB is losing an asset by seeing him go. Best JMSB teacher I've ever hard. Would take him again in a heartbeat. Extremely dedicated to his students as he was one of us at JMSB a few years back.
He was the best teacher I ever had at Concordia. It is a huge loss. The was a lot of work, but I learned more with than in all my other Fina classes combined. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat.
If you want a talkative teacher and dont care about learning. He is your choice. He always focuses on practicality. Yet, you will understand that he didnt prepare you anything for the real world. Lazy teacher, never have the promised materials/info ready. The good news is - Less assignments than stated Btw, I got A- in both of his classes
very good lecturer
he is very biased in his grading.. students from the Wood's programm get better grades for the same work quality
Unique teaching style. He emphasized on practical application instead of theories only. Choosing him will make you learn something useful in your future work.
The best way to describe him is "different". You will learn a lot of practical stuff in his class and he's pretty engaging as a person. He's a very tough grader though and you'll work A LOT! Take him if you want to learn something, NOT to pad your GPA
Doesn't use the textook at all...but he teaches you some of the most useful concepts and things used in real-life applications. Keeps your interest level high through out the WHOLE lecture. If you actually care and wanna know the way business works in today's society, take this prof...you won't be disappointed...lowest grade in our section was a C-
One in a million! he is the sort of professor that would fit extremely well teaching at Harvard. He is passionate about the subject and transposes it to his students as the lecture moves on. You will get experience for the real world as well as a practical sense to apply all of the theory learnt. Any misunderstanding? Do not hold back to meet him
you do learn alot about the real world. however, he works you to death. i took him in the summer and for the 1st 3 weeks we do 11 chapters and have a midterm on it. then the next 3 weeks, we do 6 cases, 2 cases per week and its with groups. Its not that they are very hard but the teacher just gave us too much work to do in a short period of time.
Excellent Prof! He has worked in the industry & it shows. He knows what is relevant & only focuses on that. Tells you what is useless so you don't waiste your time. Very passionate about finance & teaching.
Took him in summer and I didn't regret it one bit. Even though there was a ton of work to do, you really learn and most importantly retain it. No memorizing for the exam as most courses require. He's a truly amazing teacher!! What are you waiting for - take him!!
I really enjoyed both classes that I took with prof Wong. Realistic projects and challenging midterms. I would HIGHLY recommend this professor for FINA 410 and 411
Changes course outline on the fly. Not realistic at all, marking on cases is random. Avoid if possible.
I will never forget the first day of class when he asked what is the short term all about and then showed a picture of a small fish swimming, and behind it was a shark and on top of that he wrote SURVIVAL. From that day forward i was hooked to the class. The work is a lot. but your gain is the knowledge you will derive from him and the experience.
he is a extremly good pro. if you want to learn something real, join his class. he is one of the best.
Hands down one of the best teachers in JMSB. Very helpful, very kind, very useful. His resume is impressive and you learn way beyond the scope of the course. The project we had was very challenging and labor intensive but very rewarding in the end. I would take this class again with him, he's also very funny! mid:30, proj:30 final:30 pratici:10
All I have to say is: AMAZING teacher. Very helpful, very clear, very knowledgeable and very clear. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
One of the best pedagogues, ever! I always looked forward to his classes and enjoyed them so much that they felt like entertainment rather than instruction. That is not to say his classes were frivolous. On the contrary, they were instructive and rich in content. He just has a gift of making concepts easy and pleasant to assimilate.
Although he knows his material really well, he is the most random grader ever. 50% of the grade is team based and he also gives oral presentations, and says that they are important, yet he fell asleep during everyone's presentation... What a professional... I regret not taking A. Brodt
Good prof... knows his stuff and is passionate about the subject.
One of the best and most prominent teachers JMSB has ever had.
Edward Wong, one of the greatest minds. Concordia University is lucky to have him as a teaching professor!
Not the best teacher for teaching theoretical work (sometimes doesnt fully explain theories or terms, and sometimes even makes wrong statements about them), however he brings a much more realistic dimension to the course from his experience in the field.
He is so kind and simple. He makes us work hard without feeling stressful.
He is not only a professor, but also a mentor. With him,you will feel comfortable to express your concerns. He is a good listeners. His exam is neither easy nor stressful.
Not a tough marker, but it's virtually impossible to get higher than 85% on anything. Nice guy. Teaches from real-world experience rather than from the textbook.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD.. I TOOK HIM BECAUSE I SAW THE RATING IN THIS WEBSITE.. BUT YOU MAKE HATE THE CLASS WITH HIM.. BESIDES HE IS VERY STRICT AND NOT HELPFUL AT ALL .. LIKE HE BARELY ANSWERS EMAILS
he is a difficult teacher. Never saw someone mark harder than him. Makes students give presentations on class and falls asleep. Also never uses textbook. . Just plain bad bad bad. Avoid at all costs
This teacher never answers emails.. takes off stuff from first class and make your life soo hard.. does not give you guidelines about exams.. his exams are tricky and based on general knowledge i regret taking the class with him!! AVOIDDDDD and dont think that because he has teaching awards that he will be a good prof this is misleading
The Teacher is Hypocritical and Misleading. The grading is random. AVOID
He is a good professor. Tough looking but goes for real life experience more than what is there in book. His course will help you with real life decision making. Exams are average, but you will get what you have studied for and grades for what you have written nothing less nothing more. have to attend class to learn some real finance tricks. takeit
Mr. Wong is really helpful. He doesn't post his notes online, but if you go to all his classes, he will explain everything clear and answer all the questions. Not only gives the material, but also experience. You want to learn more and be able to use the theoretical material in real life: Mr. Wong will help! Best teacher I had, a real mentor!
He is an amazing teacher, you learn a lot in his class but be ready to work hard !
Straight forward teacher, pay attention in class and read the book and you'll do fine.
I was a bit hesitant to take course on short cases but I do not regret it at all. The teacher is amazing! This is probably one of my favourite course at JMSB. Prof Wong really knows his stuff and is very practical. No textbook required, just have to read one case a week and work in a group for each case. Definitely a class and teacher worth taking
He is the best finance teacher at Concordia University - JMSB. He makes you work hard but it is totally worth it. If you are there for a path on the back, he is not there to be your mom. He has a lot of work experience and knows his stuff inside out. Took him twice (FINA 405 and 410) and it was the best decision of my bachelor.
He is a good teacher. Explain well. But HARD grader
This professor does not respect students regarding to his poor in-class sleepy behaviours and random marking criteria. He will literally forbid a student from taking his class in front of the whole class. There's rummer in school about him took over $100 gifts from students who are pursuing taking his class. It looks really bad if it is true.
One of the best professor in JMSB! He teaches student practical skills and finance in the real word, instead of boring textbook theory; He knows that how important the GPA is when you're trying to find a job, so he is never be a hard marker; I learned a lot from students' presentations and while improving my presentation skills.

Prof Wong is truly considerate for students' study progress and is willing help a student with good protaintials to achieve his/her goals. If you are a hard-worker, he is the one to choose to take.
Good professor. His slides and explanation are very clear, but he doesn't post them, so you need to record them fast. Try your best to do the project! It's 40%!
One of the best in Concordia! He explains everything clearly and he is always there to help! You will regret if you have never chosen him!
He is very practical. His class always involve real world cases. And he is a easy marker. I will definitely take another class with him.
One of the worst at JMSB Finance. Avoid at all costs. Random grading criteria (basically gives you a good grade if he knows you). If you insist on taking a class with him, focus more on becoming his friend rather than spending too much time trying to get assignments/projects/exams right.
"One of the worst at JMSB Finance. Avoid at all costs. Random grading criteria (basically gives you a good grade if he knows you). If you insist on taking a class with him, focus more on becoming his friend rather than spending too much time trying to get assignments/projects/exams right." From another review, but my thoughts exactly. Wow.
Avoid him. He's fun to listen to and he knows his stuff but his grading is ridiculous. I completely agree with the reviews below: Make friends with him or forget your A. Switching section for him was the worst move of my final year at JMSB.
He's a great teacher and makes his lectures interesting but that's it. His way of grading is completely random and unjustified. He gave wrong instructions on what to focus on the midterm which resulted in a class average in the 50s. For the final we are supposed to value a stock without even having any complete financial statements.
Taking this class was a negative experience. the grading seemed very random, with little feedback and no clear criteria. Instructions for the midterm were unclear. Help for the project was very vague, with most of the valuation skills learned online... no one failed the course, but there were very few As and no one knows why they got their grade
Never had a professor with such vague instructions and unclear grading criteria. Doesn't teach anything on financial modeling, you're supposed to learn it all by yourself. If your goal is to learn modelling and valuation, you're better off going to a seminar like Wall Street prep. I only got As in my 400level FINA classes and this class ruined it.
6 case analysis and final is a case. Workload is heavy after midterm. All the cases are after the midterm. You'll find it hard to get anything above 75.
Worst teacher i had in JMSB, he doesn't teach you anything and doesn't care about his students, you don't know how he grades you, sent him 3 emails to review my exams he never replied, horrible teacher
Don't take class if you don't like group projects or presenting in front of class. The group project very difficult but you will learn a lot as well. His lectures are hilarious, but the group presentations are often tedious. Very respected teacher and will listen to you. His exams are very fair as well.
FINA 405 with him is considered a CAPSTONE FINA course. You'll be solving cases and presenting throughout the semester. It's extremely useful for finance students looking to apply what they have learned. It's a very demanding course but you'll be ready for the workforce thereafter. He used to manage a multi billion hedge fund. The best prof w/ expe
Amazing teacher! I would definetly take him again. He's lectures are easy to follow and it's never boring.
His lectures were very clear and often simplified the material for us. His midterm exam was much easier compared to other sections. All in all he was a good teacher in class and kept the class entertaining with his slides. However on the downside he would sometimes seem annoyed or bothered to answer questions outside of class or at office hours.
For those who wanna simply read slides and get a good grades, you probably shouldnt take his course. However, if you wanna really learn something about the real world, he's definitely the one. Work hard on your cases and get prepared for his tricky question, and he will change how you perceive the real finance world after you take his class.
Honestly, one of the best professors I ever had in JMSB. I love his FINA 411 class so so much, and you learn so much. Take him, you won't regret it
Edward Wong is a legend. Best professor I have ever taken at JMSB. If you actually want to learn something that you can take home with you... he is your guy. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Half of semester is teaching, second half is cases. Good midterm, straight forward final. Cases will teach you way more about Asset allocation, asset selection and defending your ideas then attending classes and someone reading you slides. Would definitely take again.
Great prof, super engaging class. Be prepared to work; there are 4 cases that you have to write an entire 10 ish page report for every week after the midterm, and one case that you have to prepare a 30 minute presentation for. If you put in the work, you will learn a lot as his classes are very interesting. Just make sure to pick good teammates.
His class is very lecture heavy. He doesn't post the slides, so you must attend class to take notes. He also expects a lot from his students, and that shows in his grading method. Definitely a tough course with lots of post-midterm work. However, Professor Wong is incredible. Highly dedicated to his students and incredibly knowledgeable. Take him!
I love Professor Wong!! Hes clearly an expert in his field and so you learn a lot by taking his class! His case style class is extremely interesting, definitely take his class
Please avoid. Yes, he can be funny at times but can also be rude and so unhelpful. He can make you feel dumb when you have a serious question and its honestly so annoying and stressful. Also, if you haven't done finance cases before this class, goodluck, because he does not show u how to do a case but just expects u to know. Do NOT recommend
Never expect anything from him. He hate to interact outside the class and he is rude and unprofessional.
Most arrogant professor of Concordia. He keeps on changing the course outline as per his convenience.
This guy is probably the most unfair teacher at Concordia. For instance, he required the class to be divided into 12 groups and evaluate 5 cases + a presentation. The highest grade on the presentation was 80%, then he would rank the rest by power and strength. Meaning top 1 got 80, then top 2 75, top 3 70, and so on. Same thing went for the cases.
This class is very demanding, especially the group projects. Wong tries to make the class funny and interactive, however, he demands that you open your webcam and picks on people to answer his questions. There is no instructions for assignments or projects, you either get it or not. Beware, there is a lot of CFA materials and questions.
This is a great class. He forms it to be very practical and related to the real world. The projects are a lot and a lot of work, but it is really good practice. Additionally, he is the quickest grader and responder I have had at Concordia. Overall, he is very accessible and personable. Definitely, take him for fina 411 if you want a practical class
you'll never know how he grades ur paper and he never replies to your email
He clearly does not care about teaching or this course. Do not take him if you care about your GPA. He can be funny at times but it is not worth taking this course with him. I think he grades in comparison to himself, so unless you are already an expert in the course don't expect to get good grades for group projects and long answer questions.
The class format is half lectures/half cases, which is great because it gives you time to focus on tests and group projects for other classes during the 2nd half of the semester. Be ready to participate because Prof. Wong will remember your name and call you out at random
I took the class after a year of online classes, and he made it very welcoming and fun. His lectures are really good and engaging. He does call out on people to read the slides. The midterm exam was okay if you followed his notes and the exercises in the textbook. The final was a case analysis, for which he prepares you in advance. Great class!
Professor made the class very interesting and simple. Real-world cases and a very straightforward midterm with a case as the final. Definitely take him for FINA 411.
His class is fun, you can hear stories but very little practice. You don't get any feedontdbacks from assignments and exams so you will never know where you made mistakes. If you want a very low gpa, he is the best choise.
The professor is good when it comes to explaining the material, however his slides are not very detailed and you would need to read the textbook to have more clarity. The midterm and the final were common for all the sections and were written by the course coordinator. They are immensely hard and go beyond the scope of the course.
Found Professor had a poor attitude towards students. Asked for participation but put students down who answered him. Many bogus group projects assigned to avoid teaching. Class an ego trip for prof but waste of time for students who want to learn.
If you can you really should take him for comm 308: He explains sooooo well, he will give a practice midterm, a practice tvm test. The only comm 308 teacher that gives real examples and wants his averages to be high!
Best professor one could have for Comm 308
Very good teacher
Professor Wong is the best teacher I have ever had at Concordia so far, in one of the hardest classes in the curriculum he continuously shows how much he cared and went above and beyond the other professors in the faculty.
Incredibly underrated prof. Great lectures with a good sense of humor. I highly recommend.
Prof. Wong cares about the students who contribute. He invests in you when you invest in him. Take his class with that mindset and you will do phenomenal.
A very practical teacher focused on real-life scenarios. The best teacher I have ever had.
A very practical teacher focused on real-life scenarios. Very funny teacher, but above all he seeks the best for his students.
Alright, I will make it simple for you guys if there was an award for the worst professor in JMSB it would be given to this guy, I will give you few points and you all can reflect on it: - Midterm totally random has nothing to do with the course - Projects with no feedback and draining - Racist - Grade you based on how much he likes you
Professor Wong is a great teacher who makes the course material engaging. I found unstuck study and the textbook really helpful for studying and prep. The exams are challenging but doable if you stay on top of things.
The absolute man of finance. Hats off sir. Arguably one of the greatest profs in finance at jmsb.
I took the eConc course. It covers a lot of material and takes up a lot of time for an elective. The math isn't hard, but it requires critical thinking. Midterm and final were fair but not easy. Wouldn't recommend it due to the heavy workload, also easier if you have some general finance knowledge prior. There's 100% easier electives to take.
