He is very straight forward and teaches at a point where he thinks everyone will understand the first time. There is a lot of material explained in class that is only partially in the book, so you don't want to miss class. He is very open to students visiting his office for help or dropping in another one of his classes if you miss yours though.
DON'T TAKE HIS FRIDAY ONLY CLASS! Too much material for one day. VERY HARD!! His class is kOo only if you show up & understand the material. Understanding material in one day IS SO HARD!! Advice: taking more than one day + go to office hours!! GOOD LUCK IS ALL I CAN SAY!!! NOT AN EASY A!!! ** By the final day, you got an A, no final! GOODLUCK!!!!!!
The class is pretty easy if you like the subject. As a teacher, he is very funny and prepared. He is very helpful when it comes to answering questions, although he likes to trick his students. The exams are based on the homework. It was a great experience to have him as a teacher, and if you do well, you may get a pencil at the end of the semester
Great professor. If you show you are willing to work hard, he will work just as hard. Goes to office hours and extends time if necessary. Very down to earth professor and tries to use many different ways of describing the topic so the students will understand. Comes very highly recommended.
This guy is THE best. His willingness to help you learn is unsurpassed. He will explain anything to you in class or office hours so you have no reason to lack understanding in any area of the course. Here is a gigantic hint: do your homework and you will know exactly what will be on the tests. Also, go to class every day.
Can't imagine anyone better. Very nice guy who cares about students. HW Q's and in-class exercises prepare you fully for tests. Easy to get an A. Don't understand something? He is the most helpful professor I've ever had. Just ask him and he will help you. I wish all teachers had his attitude. Can't recommend Prof. Fagin enough.
Tests and final are a replica of the homework so they were extremely easy. Fagin can be frustrating sometimes. He'd ignored me when I raised my hand. He does not explain concepts to the fullest so HW can be confusing. Does not appreciate a well written essay (I got a F every paper and I am an A student). Overall he's easy but VERY VERY frustrating!
I learned so much from this class! There's homework every class. DO THE HOMEWORK! It will definitely help you do well on the test. His lectures were very clear. He'll explain and help you if you need it. I had an A in the class so I didn't have to take the final!!! =D
This class is very difficult and requires a lot of critical thinking. Do the HW! The quizzes and tests are based around them. There was a lot of group work involved in this class and help is often not available during class, but he does have office hours available, which he recommends that we take advantage of.
Extremely difficult and FAST PACED class! Put in groups, after finding my group lazy & just copying from each other. I asked for assistance and he continually referred me back to my group! He SAID he would take it slow, but he ALWAYS scribbled and erased his graphs and information before ANYONE had a chance to comprehend WHAT he was talking about.
Very hard class. Moves fast and expects you to grasp the material. Tons of homework. Hard test, lots of quizzes and group work. I would not take this class if you have a full schedule.
He is VERY passionate about ECON, overly so. 2 midterms, 1 final, group presentations, and LOADS of homework, quizes, in class work, etc. Attendance is mandatory. Not very clear or helpful w/ the homework he assigns.
First impress was cool, talks about himself alot, then second day of class.. i forgot my number asked him, and gave me a HUGE attitude! Not nice.
Terribly disorganized. Assigns HW at the last second, posts online quizzes over the wknd with no warning and a quick deadline. Nice person but inconsiderate teacher! Grades group projects very subjectively; gave my group a D on one section of project and had no explanation for why when we asked. Tests are pretty easy, but he's not worth the hassle.
I TOOK BOTH HIS ECON CLASSES AND I MUST SAY ECON IS NOT A SIMPLE SUBJECT SO IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR IT. AMAZING TEACHER!!! EXTREMELY HELPFUL I DO SUGGEST IF YOUR HAVING TROUBLE MAKE SURE YOU USE HIS OFFICE HOURS. I DIDN'T PURCHASE EITHER TEXTBOOKS FOR THE CLASSES. LOTS OF HOMEWORK BUT IT GETS YOU READY FOR THE TESTS.
The WORST teacher I've had up to date!! This guy is such a jerk! He talks to you in such a condescending way and never really answers your questions. He instead gives you a smart-aleck answers. The assignments he hands out has not been taught yet. He was just overall a waste of time and effort.
I took both his macro/micro classes, got an A in both. He's still experimenting w classes cuz he's new.He praises the over achievers tho & is very harsh on hw grading. He's very unclear, fast & tends to lose ur hw sometimes, look at his office,a mess.I've argued w him a bunch of times. He fixes ur grade if u win.Beware,he likes to put u on the spot!
He's an alright professor. He is hard, helpful, and also unfair... Easy to get an A as long as you put time and effort in your work. Study hard, attend class, and read carefully. Go to his office hours because they really do help. Take him only if you have a lot of time to spare for one class.
Terrible professor. He rarely informs the class before he posts quizzes online. He grades hard and doesn't explain anything clearly.
This guy is nuts! He answers your questions with QUESTIONS! He doesn't even teach things from the book half of the time. He also posts a lot of quizzes online and some with little to no prior warning. His lectures get confusing really fast since he wants you to come up with the answers; sometimes purposefully puts false information on the board.
He is a good professor if you have an interest in econ or business. If you do not have an interest in either subjects, then i recommend you do not take his class. A lot of work, a lot of quizzes, and attendance is mandatory. Take only if you have time and patience. Also, not the class to take if you are looking for an easy grade.
goes way too fast and really confusing notes
It is a fast pace lecture. You need extra time to do some outside research and constantly go to the tutoring lab for the assignments that are given. A LOT of assignments and groupwork are required.
WORSE TEACHER!! he totally is a lame excuse for a teacher. he seriously has a problem. We needed our id for our TWO hour orientation for his online class, but refused to think that some ppl were who they said they were cuz their ids are from when their 16!! what a loser,i really dont recommend this anal teacher!
he is a really nice guy and really wants the best for his students. but his teaching style is not the best. he gives us homework assignment EVERY CLASS ... and literally half of the assignment is not even clear. he gives homework on lessons he didnt cover yet. (p.s if you have an A in the class, you dont have to take the final)
thw book is good to have just in case but i barely used it. his class is fairly easy as long as you pay attention to his lectures. mid terms are from the homework he hands out, and so are the online quizzes.
He may have a Doctorate to be professional Economist, however, in no way is he a teacher! This professor teaches very little of what is needed to pass the class with an A (basically figure out the material without his help). For example, you are barely allowed to answer questions during lecture. Take this professor if you want a serious challenge
As an online class it is very difficult. When asked for assistance or advice he recommends going to his lectures. No Help for an online student who can't make it to class for lectures.
OMG!!Expect alot of stress, work, and frustration. He's really nice (at least to the girls haha)but crazy hard! I went to class everyday, took detailed notes, did EVERY assignment, kissed ass and finally passed w/a B. He does uses the same ?s alot so that helps and most of the HW comes form the book..if you stick it through you should do ok...
HORRID TEACHER!!! this is a warning to everyone who THINKS they can "stick it out" w/ this class, he is incredibly hard and unclear. EVERY response to questions students ask is "refer to" this, "refer to" that. So you go in a circle! HORRIBLE teacher! If your an average student, you'll fail, if your a straight A student, you'll be lucky to pass.
This was an extremely hard class. If your not a math person, and have to take ECON for your major, good luck taking him. He would assign a ton of homework, plus post online quizzes, give you group work and presentation work to do and it would all have to be done in a week. Good luck if you decide to take him! you'll be lucky to pass
he is the most difficult teacher i have ever had. you cannot even ask him questions, he'll just tell you that he went over it in the lecture and to look at your notes. and during his lectures if he asks a question and someone gives him the wrong answer he'll go with it until someone points it out. take someone else, trust me.
Don't take just for a requirement! I thought this class would be manageable, but it's one of those classes where you either get an "A" or a "C and below." You really need to be interested in this type of field of study. I worked very hard in the class, but his teaching method isn't for all. Don't take at all if you're not confident in math/graphs!
I took his 302&304 at the same time. He can be frustrating but he's not bad. If you're a SERIOUS college student take him! A true A student you will get an A. He is challenging but THIS IS COLLEGE! You will actually LEARN. He wants you to think before answering HW q's. He explains everything before the test. Quizzes are same as HW. QUIT WHINING!
2 mid-terms 1 final exam and numerous online d2l quizzes. Exams mostly multiple choice with a few long problem questions. Didn't study at all got a B in final and in class, if you put somewhat of an effort you will get an A. 3 Group Presentation+Report. Show up and attempt presentation you will get 100, the group reports wont count in final grade.
really good teacher. real passionate about economics. always helps during office hours! doesnt take roll but if you miss a day you missed alot! .. overall great experience!
Difficult to keep up with the pace of the class especially for summer semester. Really strict on attendence and being on time and won't accept hw if you're late, which is pretty common among professors, I had to drop because of the difficulty of the quizzes and tests.
As a UCD and LosRios grad, I've had my share of profs and econ classes. His arrogance and antagonism were so unprofessional.Profs are suppose to encourage participation, not mock students.I pointed out an error on a quiz and he shrugged it off.I did A level work but I dropped the course as I was so infuriated by the lack of respect in the classroom.
too fast pace
for online section: NOT RECOMMENDED. easy to maintain a B but not an A. little-no guidance/direction. must keep up because fast paced. each quiz has couple questions that are not in book. prof shows meaning of wasted effort. my recommendation: find an econ professor who teaches well and makes econ fun to learn. this prof is total opposite.
OMG! He is ridiculous. He posts quizzes everyday it seems. It is so hard to absorb what you are learning because he piles on the work. And you get no response for online students. I suggest taking the class in person or going to other professor.
Goes with post below vvv I was only CLARIFIED after the fact I took the quiz. He just is not helpful. He doesn't explain ANYTHING for the online class. I understand it's online, but what the heck he is still supposed to teach?!
doesnt care if you dont get the material
online class is outrage. i didnt pay my fees to get a teacher who tells his class to read the chapter and do the corresponding quizzes. i learned my lesson taking an online class. prof is not approachable AT ALL. students in online class are sitting ducks.
If Your lazy hes not the teacher for you. He is a very enthusiastic teacher. He is extremely difficult, but well worth it because you feel well verse in the subject at the end.It seems that he loves what he does, and has a genuine heart if your serious about your schooling, hes your man.
Gives online quiz every week and if you don't check your e-mail daily you will miss a lot. Doesn't go over material well. The amount of work increases dramatically with in days.
all the comments here are true. he will not help you, but he does loves his job and econ. most the thing are online. and by the end of the semester you will have tons of stuff to complete and he will rush the whole class. doesnt care if u didnt understand all he cares is that he went over in class.
This professor can be very annoying because he doesn't really answer questions on the hw/assigns, he also moves at a rapid pace which can be a problem for students who are working, in addition he can be unreasonable at times with his mistakes/group work. the class is manageable/stressful to get a B/C but not an A. and i would reccom. someone else.
must be in class. plays favorites and never talks to anyone who isnt one of his chosen ones
Quizes are every week, they simply are from the homework which is simply from the book. I found that when I read the chapter before class I would get the material. Overall the class was fun and efficient, I sat in the front row which I think helped me learn better and besides that I would take him agian if my major required me to.
He uses' online alot, and study the HW, thats where all the Q's come from, and if you have an "A" in the class by the time the final comes around you don't have to take it!
Online Class, videos were bad quality and from terrible angles. Cannot see submitted assignments to see which questions were answered wrong and what the right answer was, little review material other than book. I have nothing against challenging classes but I sometime felt I was in the dark as to whether or not I really get the material.
Professor Fagin, is a great teacher he loves econ and is very smart. I just think he assumes all his students are like him. his classes are extremely hard if you have no prior econ background.
Prof. Fagin is such an amazing guy. He's a well-orgazied person who uses our class time efficitently, and he's knowledgeable about this subject. Although it was not a easy class, I would still recommand students take him since we will learn a lot of economical stuff.
I took him two econ classes 302, 304. His lectures are very clear even sometimes he rushes into it. Everything he says in class and on the take home quiz are what he gonna give you on the tests. It is the most interesting class I ever had. He uses his time efficiently and even his office hours. Want a cool class? TAKE HIM!!!
Im going to start this out by saying that I have taken online classes before and had much success in them, so when I read other peoples comments I didnt take them seriously. His online class consists of him telling you to read a chapter take his poorly worded quizzes and try to aid with a video that doesnt cover the board. Dont take him . Period
His class is very easy if u focus on his lecture. he is very funny and let everyone participate in the lecture. he makes people think rather than just follow the formula. Overall he is a good teacher and has passion to teach.
He explains the material pretty well so one shouldn't be surprised by quizzes and tests. But if you're unsure, come in during office hours and he'll help piece everything together. Fairly strict with homework and testing so be specific with what you write and turn things in on time. Don't fall behind on the material though or you'll get swamped.
It is not an easy class but if you study and take notes it is passable the class and speed at wich the professor teaches only pushes you to try harder good professoe overall
This guy is amazing. His want for the students to pass is unheard of. He doesn't want anyone to just pass the class, he wants u to really understand the material and even imply it to ur life. If Ur major is Econ or business, TAKE DR.FAGIN!! No lie, I thought Econ was going to be a dry subject, but with Dr.Fagin it was anything but. A+++++++++++++++
I read some of the previous comments, and people who are using this site to pick classes shouldn't listen to them, he's (dr.****in) always taking inputs like that and allways working on it and most of the problems listed on this forum are already addressed and changed.
This professor knows his stuff I recommend taking this class during fall or spring DO NOT TAKE IN THE SUMMER He is a great professor and make use of his office hours to get an understanding it really helps
DO NOT take this guy. if you walk in 1 minute late he will nor accept your work and you will get a 0 and potentially 2 0's for cetain assignments. lectures are really fast. uses class room response clickers mine was lost and he told me he cant help me and to write the answers on paper, he then accused me of taking the clicker. this guy is a joke!!!
Dr. Fagin rocks. He has a passion for econ and does everything he can to get his students excited about it too. His class is challenging if you don't know anything about econ coming into it but he's extremely available if you need help and the class is much easier if you go to office hours. Frequent online and in-class quizzes and 3 presentations
he is too fast explaining things. doesn't use good examples and he is always jumping around the place too quickly. sometimes it seems like he is talking to himself. if your a slower learner and don't catch onto things as quick, then don't take him
Great professor. I wish I could have taken him for Macro too. Homework assignments always matched class curriculum. Only thing I didn't like was the first test due to some strangely worded questions. Overall, I would suggest this professor for students who actually want to learn something about economics.
This professor teaches & gives assignments equivalent to a 5 unit class although it is only 3 units. He's more interested in deducting points & finding ways to make his class more challenging than making sure students under the material. He teaches the class as if everyone are Econ Majors. He's never clear as to where your points are going towards
Don't take him!! The work load is too much, there is homework everyday along with online quizzes, he goes through lectures way too fast, gives pop quizzes all the time, assigns group presentations and reports, etc. Also, he assigns a 15 page group report due on the same day as the final!! Take someone else!
I hated his class. He did not help at all when I asked him questions! I asked him if I needed to turn an assignment in and his answer was, "I don't know." He is not helpful and his lectures are unorganized and fast. Most of our class failed the quizzes and the work was overwhelming.
Good teacher, but I was a little confused about homework.
He is an AMAZING teacher. He explains everything very clearly, although at times he goes fast during lectures, but talk to him during office hours if you're having problems. Tests are relatively easy if you study and review homework & notes. Definitely a great teacher! Take him! You will definitely learn!!
He is very unprofessional when it comes to crtiquing his students. He asks questions to intentionally confuse the class. He will only go over homework after he has quizzed the class. It seems like his intentions are to make a class that can be a moderately challening class already into an extremely difficult course.
he is very fast paced and expects you to know everything, give a lot of work, i dropped the class bcause it was so stressfull.
i never had such a problem with a teacher before. he refuses to answer any questions in before or after class because he tries to cram too much lecture into one day; he also likes pop quizzes and failing students. after spring 2012 he wants to start using clickers that have numerical and multiple choice answers, as if it wasnt hard enough already
Not the best teacher. He gives quizzes constantly, and expects you to be up on all the information. At times he won't go over something because it was "in the book" Best advice--assume the worst at ALL times. If you think there will be a quiz in class, there probably will be.
Professor F. as a person seems pretty cool, but as an online instructor, he leaves a lot to be desired. Lecture videos don't show the entire board, and he is very dis-organized. Homework can be unclear. Perhaps in the classroom it's a different story, but it's a no-go online. I pulled off a good grade, but it wasn't because of his teaching
very much in to econ...but doesn't explain things much and he intentionally makes the class really hard which can be boring....better to find some one else....
Very good teacher. I suggest that you should take ECON 302 first before taking 304. 302 was SO much easier than 304. Take him for 302 first. He does not really uses the textbook except for Vocab. Form a study group so you can get caught up if you miss a day of class. He does group work. There is a extra credit opportunities.
I always heard that taking Econ 302 before 304 was wise; however, I didn't heed that sound advice. The class was incredibly difficult and carried on at a pace I had never before experienced. If you can't keep up, good luck getting help from Edwin; all of his responses are indirect and seem as though they are meant to confuse students.
AMAZING PROF! He prepares you for university level work. He is very enthusiastic and knows his stuff. Go to his office hours if you need help. Very helpful. READ the assigned material. Take him!
IS NOT UNDERSTANDING, NOT CLEAR. IF YOU ARE CONFUSED HE DOESN'T TAKE THE TIME TO HELP YOU, HE WILL JUST INSTRUCT YOU TO DO TUTORING, AND THATS IT! I HONESTLY CAN ONLY SAY THIS FOR ONLINE CLASSES, MAYBE HE IS BETTER IN CLASS, BUT DIFFENITLY NOT ONLINE!
He leaves lots of homework. His class is not a walk in the park but he does prepare you for university level. He is very enthusiastic about economics. You will definatly learn alot! If you put in work you will be fine. He is also very helpful if you go to his office hours!great teacher no doubt about it! take him!
He looks like a chillteacher but is really hard head. He seem to believe that everyone has the same knowledge as he does and tends to go quick in class. Not only is the pace quick but when you take the time to ask him a question afterclass or goto his office hours he answers you in an indirect way. he like to answer with "What do you think?" Beware
Hates questions, expects you to have the same knowledge he has going into the class. I took his online class-I don't recommend it because 1. it seems like he doesn't want to do online, 2. is not helpful when you e-mail him 3. DOES NOT STICK TO THE SYLLABUS on what chapter we are supposed to be on, and sometimes forgets to email you about chapters.
He is not helpful when you have a question and/or need help with assigments...he always aswers a question with a question "so what does the material say, etc.". He goes over material as if you should already know it. he is hard on grading....does not stick to syllabus...I do not even think he grades homework or extra credit..really unhelpful.
Gives way too much work. He gives the lowest grades. He doesn't even help you when you ask him questions. Honestly I don't think he even cares if you fail his class.
make sure you have a study buddy! Go to the tutor! pay attention in class, and turn in assignments near the bottom of the stack don't be late try to take clear notes and write down the questions he asks during lecture. overall I highly recommend a buddy for clarification
You'd have to be really smart to be in this class. Grades are mostly based on tests, and usually only 3-5 ppl get an A out of a class of 50. VERY hard to pass with an A. My recommendation is to not take him, he makes you look stupid in front of the whole class and assigns way too much work for a 3 unit class. It's suicide, don't take his class!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Do not take him. You will only regret when you see how impossible it is to bring your grade up. He is no help in answering your questions.
This guy... He assigns a lot of homework which is weighted as 40% of your grade... The class is relatively easy, but if you want an A, either pay attention in class and have alot of free time on your hands, or take F.Farnam, I hear he is easy. Overall, he's good professor.
HORRIBLE!!! Do NOT take this class - ESPECIALLY online!! He does not unlock the quizzes so you cannot see which questions you missed so you can study for the midterm / final. The extra credit that he does offer at the midterm / final he only offers with a catch...if you attempt it and it's wrong he will deduct points from you.
A pretty tough class but if you pay very close attention and study youll be fine. i loved his style of teaching
DONT TAKE HIM! He's completely unfair.Gives no credit for your work unless it precise, otherwise don't try. Turn in your homework a minute late, and there's no credit whatso ever, literally mean just a minute. "econ is so easy" that's his phrase, so if you don't get something or say I don't know, he'll make you look stupid in front of the class
Honestly and without exaggeration, he is an awful teacher. He does not provide the online students with the tools needed for the course, he assigns homework based on studies not yet attempted, the online quizzes are intentionally designed with trickery, and the class as a whole is very unorganized. You will absolutely teach yourself the material.
I REALLY try to succeed. This teacher is very difficult and it's nearly impossible to learn the material for the sake of knowledge. If you read the text twice, watch the limited lecture video he provides, and spend hours upon hours learning the material through other resources or perhaps a tutor, you MAY get by with an A. Even then? Who knows.
Listen, do not take this class online. Apparently only a couple students have anything close to an A. I tried so hard and the final is in a couple days. I barely have a C and I devoted 8-10 hours weekly to this online class. Something is wrong here. Just find another teacher. Don't put your self through the misery.
I took Dr. Fagins course during the spring and completely bombed the course even though is spent hours trying to learn the material. Took him over the summer and completely devoted every second of every day to the class. THE most rewarding experience of my life. Truly an amazing teacher. He will make you think like him otherwise you wont make it
You know, this was one of the toughest classes I have ever taken. The material is not terribly difficult, but getting a high grade is hard with him. He is not easy at all. You must be absolutely devoted to this class. Nice teacher though... very much knows his stuff.
I actually took both his macro and micro class and loved it! :) he's an amazing prof who's enthusiastic about his subject. His work is hard, no doubt, but he drills it into you. by the end of the semester, you WILL know your econ. If you just keep up with all the work, an a isn't impossible. His classes have made me reconsider my major!
Pay attention in class, ask what needs to be asked, complete all of your work, and you will be successful. It's an interesting class where you undoubtedly get a lot out of it; as long as you follow along and put in effort to know the concepts.
WORST CLASS! His grading system was completely unfair! Putting college students in a mandatory group project is the worst idea! And if your group members aren't participating you get penalized for their uncompleted work. I do no recommend him. Seems cool, but makes you feel kind of stupid if you can't answer a question right.
ABSOLUTLY A HILARIOUS CLASS! But besides his extensive humor, Dr. Fagin is a really good Professor who will prepare you for CSU or UC style of working. All you really need to do is do the reading and pay attention in class and if your still troubled then talk to him during office hours, he helps a lot x)
Wouldn't take him again, even though I need this class to graduate. Not helpful and no time to stop and answer questions, always in a hurry to keep going. Never explained mistakes on quizzes or tests.
Dr. Fagin is a tricky, condescending professor. He sits in the class on the first day and pretends to be a student. He then explains who he is and he seems so rad. But, he is not. He lets you take down INCORRECT notes unless someone corrects him. He makes you feel stupid. He has a good sense of humor, but he's not helpful and loves to play games
Dr. Fagin makes sure you know your stuff. The "tricks" he uses in class are to make sure you're paying attention and learning the material. Definitely one of the harder professors on campus, but I liked him enough to take him twice. Highly recommend if your want to learn and retain Economics.
Dr.Fagin inspired me to become an Econ major. His style of teaching is consistent with UC level classes. I am now at UC Davis and I am very thankful that I took his class. I would tell everyone to take Dr.Fagin. But NO SLACKING! You have to be attentive and on your game. ENJOY :)
He is a really difficult professor but really good. He forces you to actually learn. He made a subjest I had no interest in, interesting.
Do not take this class unless it's your only class you are devoted to. Assigns you in groups where you lose points if your members don't complete their work. Also you lose points if you lose money in the stock market so chose your stocks wisely. I wouldn't recommend him
Horrible class to take! He assigns an enormous amount of work that doesn't even make sense half the time. When you take notes, he jumps to different subjects over and over. He only cares about the students who really understand his class and he doesn't help you understand if you don't. Don't take this class unless your really interested in econ.
He's not easy at all and does not care about helping students. He will not answer your questions clearly. He is very confusing and only cares about the students who actually care about Economics. His lectures are confusing and if you miss a day it feels like a month. I recommend to take another professor for sure.
This was a difficult class and it took a lot of work to get an A, but it was worth it. If you miss something then just go to his office hours, he loves helping students and forcing you to think instead of just giving you answers. Totally reasonable since economics is supposed to be a way of thinking.
I've never commented on a professor before, here, but I had to this time. The online class has very little lectures(less than 10 total)and even less supplemental material. This made for an extremely difficult class. Professor does respond to emails promptly, but there is no direction/teaching, you are essentially on your own when taking this class.
If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you! If you actually want to learn then I definitely recommend you take this class you will learn so much! He gives weekly quizzes and gives you study guides. Starts off pretty easy but at the end it gets very difficult and you'll need to put a lot of effort to pass with a good grade.
This class was challenging but if you are interested in economics take him.
A different kind of course and teacher! Not an easy course by any means. Invest 2 hours of self-study for every 1 hour of lecture, and an A is almost sure shot. Expect a different learning experience. The Prof. really makes you think. Overall Great course! Great professor!
The class was doable. The class focuses on simple algebraic concepts and concepts from the books. The class relies heavily on the textbook and lecture notes since quizzes and tests come directly from them. Sometimes questions come from lecture notes only, so pay attention! The professor is very friendly . Definitely not an easy A, but attend class!
A cool professor who explains things pretty well, socialable, and is willing to help you out; wants you to pass his class. But his class is not an easy one. He gives consistent hw, quizzes, expects participation, and expects students to read the book. Even then I've learned a lot from his class.
I'm taking his class for the Spring semester online which is a 8 weeks course. He is not cleared about what's assigned for each week. Instead of telling you what chapters to read he names the test in an acronym or uses the names of the chapter which I find that extremely useless. So if you don't read ahead you are screwed.
He was a professor who was tough, but was also someone who was compassionate about his work. He expected students to read, but the lecture materials were solid as well. Hard work will pay off in his class and the quizzes are mostly take home quizzes, so easy A's. Do the work and go to class to receive an A.
Very difficult class. Definetly possible but you have can not slack.
This professor is an extremely knowledgeable professor, and loves teaching his subject. If you're having a hard time, use his office hours, or ask for help from your group-mates. HW even seconds late is a 0, try not to miss class, do all the reading, and you'll be fine. Try the 100 (New) or 300 (Some knowledge) classes first, if you can.
First of all I just wouldn't take his course because there is just a lot better options out there. He is a good professor and smart guy but he spends so long waiting for someone in the class to figure out what is gonna happen next that we typically waste a lot of time and do not get to fully go over everything thoroughly making the hw difficult.
Good teacher, but his videos require internet explorer to run, and even then don't always work. Can usually get by with just the book if you want a B but the videos cover other material that isn't in the book or he is including work from the next chapter. Download the videos if you want to watch them. This is for 8wk online class
The best professor I've ever had. You will literally have every thing you need to get an A. He makes videos to go with the lectures and he clearly explains everything.
Really bad teacher, gives random tests not even related to study guide and book matereal. Does everything to make you fail the class.
Stop whining. You should all be grateful that you have the opportunity to further your education. I took this class and really enjoyed it. It's tough but I like a challenge. I don't want to take easy classes. That won't get me anywhere.
Hardest class I've taken so far. I literally had nightmares of the class every single night. I barely passed. He's a smart guy who's passionate about what he teaches, but he will show NO MERCY. Read, read, READ. Take notes. Ask classmates for help when you can. You'll like him if you like challenging classes. If you don't, tread with caution...
I enjoyed his class. As long as you participate in the lecture and read the book, I think you'll do fantastic in his class. He provides online videos which I found helpful especially when reviewing for the final. I also liked that he assigned me and my classmates into groups and had us review worksheets and homework together.
This is the teacher you should receive the "W" for if you ever come to that thought. He's a decent teacher at best. He tends to stray from the topic to talk about his personal life a lot. He is a "The bell doesn't dismiss you, I do" type of teacher. Don't take if you need to catch a bus, by the way. Irritating, but not challenging.
Passionate about his topic however does not make topics clear to students. He tries to rush through as much information as he can in the semester and will leave you confused and having to teach yourself the material. Purposely tries to fail students and outright states that his goal is to have a class grade average of around 70%. Avoid!
Extremely tough class. Beware of a lot of homework, expects you to participate and understand the material, and you must work for the grade that you want.
He use to post lectures videos on D2L which is very helpful. I would say he is a cool professor when it comes to atmosphere of class but you have to study daily for his class as he can give pop quizzes any time. Simple formulaWant good grades then don't miss any of his class because all exams questions is based on his assignments and lecture notes
The professor aks a lot of questions during lectures and some of that is not in the book.
The professor is funny, engaging, and lectures well. The material is difficult, but paying attention in class (skipping really hurts) and watching the optional videos he posts online will make it much easier. He is not cell phone friendly. Tests are very similar to the online homework and in-class group work that you do, making it easy to study.
Anyone who goes to class and does the homework can do well. Lectures are interesting, making it easy to pay attention and stay on top of the material.
Took his summer class. Really personable. Cares about his students. Extra credit on tests that goes towards homework. Group time in class to go over homework. Tests are just like the homework and group work. Will call on everyone in class during lecture so pay attention. Overall, good class, good professor. If you try you will pass easily.
At first, he was intimidating because I didn't really know what to expect especially with this unique professor. Around the end, I had a usual routine of what to do and expect for his class. Class was very straightforward and clear. If you're a typical good student that tends to do whatever is recommended, then you'll end up doing pretty well.
His lectures are straight forward and the class assignments create an environment for the students to help each other understand the material further. Hw could be challenging but it forces critical thinking. Put in the work and you'll benefit tremendously from his classes.
Took his online class, he posts lectures on D2L, not the best recordings. Then again, I didn't watch them every week like I should have. 2 chapters every week. Midterm was pretty difficult, but not impossible to do good on. If you're a good student you'll get an A.
Took his 302 class last spring and I fell in love with econ. I took his 306 Environmental Economics class and it was amazing. Extremely difficult, but you learn a lot and you think about topics you've never thought of before. He is a hard teacher but he is very passionate about economics. The class is difficult but well worth it.
Dr. E wasn't too bad if you're up for a challenge. He enjoys the subject matter and is enthusiastic which was nice. This is a class that should only be taken on Campus, online was a challenge at times. Econ is 75% math! Hes a fair grader.
He's nice & the book is cheap. But, he didn't round up, so 79.9 was a C. The midterm class average was 64%; final was 64% up from 52. He told us what questions we got wrong(if it was the most missed) on the weekly homework but not on the weekly quizzes. I asked him a question about a concept & he copied an explanation from a website & sent it to me
The homework & quizzes professor Edwin assigned are relatively easy but the midterm and finals I really struggle on that. I'm really appreciative of him for offering e.c. Overall, he's a great economic professor, and an amazing lecturer. I think I'm not going to pass but I don't blame him nor myself. I did my best. Maybe Econ isn't for me.
Great all around professor
He's new to ECON310. I took this class thinking as an intro class, more people would do well. I had one of the highest grades with a mid B. Many people have to retake it and the average grade in the class after the Final was around 68-70%. He can be difficult to work with by not acknowledging when he makes a mistake/not making his grading clear.
He actually tests you on what you learn in class. Pay attention. Ask questions. Get ready to have homework due every class. You will work in a group. One of my favorite professors CRC. I got an A-. Don't forget to do the homework. It makes a big difference in the grade you will receive.
This class is very difficult. Very tough grader on exams. He wont bump your grade up, a 69.9 is a D. He gives lots of homework everyday. He will pick on you randomly to answer questions during class. Don't expect a B in his class without putting in lots of effort. Otherwise he is very knowledgeable if your looking for a challenge.
Great class! Macro is pretty straight forward, and online is relatively easy if you do the weekly readings. I would definitely take it again! You work for your A but the accomplishment is worth it! Questions to repeat from weekly quizzes to test which make studying easy. Do the work, you'll get the grade you deserve.
Watch/read his lectures on D2L since a lot of questions on the tests and hw assignments will be taken from that. I appreciated that he responded to his emails quickly and helped answer any questions. Feedback was great on most missed questions from quizzes. Don't miss any assignments.
Tough grader and horrible at giving lectures. He jumps from topic to topic so his lectures are a mess. His class is very fast paced and difficult to keep up with. Tests are pretty challenging. It's important that you don't fall behind, once you do it's hard to catch up. Lots of group projects as well
He is a economist, musician, bicyclist, family man. He makes Econ as fun as Econ could be. He booms music before class. Ongoing stock competition for bonus points. Lectures are entertaining. A lot of homework. Econ is not an easy subject. He has to be one of the best professors at CRC.
Pop quizzes suck. Terrible at explaining. Terrible at giving feedback and claims you should know the answers. Homework every day. I know the difference between a good teacher and a bad one, he cannot teach. Hes annoying and laughs if you dont know the answers. Egotistical. Completely unfair when it comes to partial credit. Dont take him trust me
He is an excellent professor. His notes are a lot but very informative. Easily accessible through email and office hours and down to earth. 3 tests including final, a lot of quizzes and homework but very helpful for the final.
By far hardest professor Ive ever had. The in class material is okay but the final and midterm which make up 70% of your grade are impossible to Ace. Highly recommend not to take this professor. Makes himself completely unavailable to reach immediately after the final
He certainly is not an easy A professor. He demands all of your effort and this class is very tough. That being said, he really cares about you and wants you to succeed. He expects the best and his tests are very hard. However, you learn so much about econ and you actually retain his information. Overall, its worth the pain
"UC education for CC price" but refuses to answer/explain homework, disregarding that 80% of the class needs help. Skips a lot of steps during lecture. He "wrote" the course textbook but its just chapters from other textbooks pieced together, doesn't explain/define any terms, and was $80. Total waste of money. Don't take unless you have to.
Took his online econ 300 course. Was fairly easy. 2-3 online assignments each week like multiple choice or matching definitions. 1 Mid term and 1 final which are exactly same as the study guide he gives. If you get a higher score on the final he will replace the mid term score if it was lower. Mid term and final 60% of your grade.
No proper knowledge in Econ? I suggest you think twice before taking his class. He's NOT the best at explaining. When students asked something he would respond with "take my other class" or "ask your classmates", but he would not answer questions properly. Brags a lot about the subject but doesn't show much interest in student learning.
Lots of homework and group work. Very enthusiastic about the subject, but doesn't explain material well enough for someone who knows nothing about it. Can be very rude when students say a wrong answer or ask questions as if he expects us to know it all and it makes you feel stupid. Also sometimes calls out students who don't do homework/quizzes.
The class is difficult, but all of the homework questions are the same as on the quizzes and midterms, and you go over those same questions in your groups everyday. He knows the subject well and inspires you to work hard for your grade. He is also willing to help. Got extra credit bc I made the most money off of the pretend stocks we invested in.
A nice guy, but a tragic professor. He understands his subject well, but that fact causes him to speed through lectures. He forces participation, even if you're still trying to grasp the topic, and will pick on you if he feels you're not paying attention. His exams are fairly tough, and he gives minimal time to complete them. Not much time to think
The video recorded lectures and images on assignments are of low quality. This 8 week course needs major improvements. Midterm and final are in person.
If you can take another professor, do it! By far the hardest class I have taken. He seems to know his material well but doesn't teach it that good. Even if you do the reading, homework, and quizzes, the in-class midterm and final are super hard. And your grade depends highly on the midterm and final!
Very approachable and helpful professor. Although in a summer course there is too much info that is rushed through. I dropped the class because I knew I was going to fail and I found myself being emailed by the professor to come back and finish because he said I was on track to passing. My grade was a 68 when I dropped and I ended with a mid 50.
He is a great teacher! Yes, he is tough and maybe because it was a summer course we were bombarded with material. He makes a great deal of effort to make you understand economics. He makes you participate daily, but it only benefits you as a student. He approaches teaching with every angle in the book; auditory, visual, and hands on learning.
Read. Read. Read. Be prepared for anything.
Literally the worst professor Ive ever had. Annoying, rude, and had a short temper. He was riding his own book and use that for a lot of the course material. Would not take again or recommend to anyone
Do not use this professor! The class I took was awful. Its very hard to keep track and the lectures are a mess as the material seems very fast paced. His tests go WAY over the provided class time, which is extremely stressful as many of us have jobs and other classes to get to. Avoid taking this professor at all costs.
Attendance is important for you to pass this class because the material is hard. However, he records his lectures so if you skip some classes, you can watch the lectures. He also lets us redo some exams because his exams are hard but doable. I strongly recommend him!!!
Honestly one of the worst professors you can take. I advise anyone to avoid taking him and to instead either take another class or another instructor. His lectures are very fast paced, unorganized, and not well explained. He usually runs out of time to finish most lectures and students are left confused. The tests are also very long and not clear.
It's very difficult. He teaches like people don't have jobs, other classes , and overall a life. The exams are 20% of your grade, but they are so long and difficult you will not be able to finish the entire thing during the given time. Take another professor if you can or even go to a different school if you need this subject.
By far the worst professor Ive ever had. If you can, dont take his class. The material is way to rushed and there isnt a clear grading rubric on tests.
He is a horrible teacher. Do not take his class!!! He will show your scores, full name with ID number to the entire class. If you fail a quiz or dont do hw he will tell the whole class & embarrass you. Very strict on cellphone policy and not having a calculator. Makes you participate. Will pick on you. Worst teacher at CRC. He needs to be fired.
He is so weird. The first day he sits in the class pretending to be a student , making you guys think he is cool. Hes rude and will not let you leave without him dismissing you. He should not be a teacher. His lectures are unorganized and messy. Good luck trying to pass a class. Homework every day. Does not help you . Please take someone else.
RAPID paced. Doesn't like to answer questions during class. Passive-agressively shames students for not knowing material, submitting assignments, or knowing syllabus guidelines. If you haven't taken previously taken a statistics class, this may not be the professor for you.
His lectures are way too fast and rushed. I am always confused when he does his lectures because he would like to jump around from topic to topic. He is by far one of the worst professors here at CRC. He also likes to give a lot of homework and assignments. He would also get mad if you were to miss a day of his lecture.
If you like a challenge, I suggest you take his class. If you dont, then stay away from this professor. He takes challenge to another level. He gives tons of hw, lectures are intense, and midterm/finals are VERY tough. Hes cool as a person but not as a professor. He does the most for no reason.
Worst professor ever. The exams are way too long to finish in time and way too difficult. Also, the lectures he posts online are unclear and of poor quality. You cannot understand them.
Online Environmental Economics Class (similar to Microecon). You have to work pretty hard to get a good grade in his class - submit all assignments on time, do well on exams. I wasn't a fan of his textbook, but his video lectures were great. He has regular office hours, so whenever I struggled with a topic, I didn't hesitate to visit.
He definitely knows his material, but completely botches it when explaining. Started the class with 40 kids, before the third exam we had less than 10. Overall seems like a good class, but makes it seem like this is the only thing you are doing in your life. Lectures confusing, and i can attest to everything else bad you see here. Horrible teacher.
But this class is all self study his online lectures and modules are confusing and unclear.
The worst Econ professor I have taken at CRC. ALL of the negative reviews are correct. His online content is hours of out of focus, inaudible, unclear, and unorganized content. Reading the book will not help as he tests on graphs unrelated to the book or his"lectures". His midterm and final includes 3-4 test due before each, one has 375 questions.
Do not take him, never
Pretty okay professor, he was lenient about due dates towards HW or quizzes. However, I personally felt that you must dedicate so much time in this class. Hell say its an easy course, but it really does depend on whether or not you understand it. Expect the final to be more difficult than earlier tests.
Online classwork was a joke, everything was from the textbook or could be found on Quizlet. The professor didn't make efforts to contact students in any sort of way outside a few emails and wasn't really accessible as it took him multiple days to respond to basic questions.
For my online class, most if not all the Quizzes were taken straight out of quizzlet. The vocab was straight out of the textbook and it was very easy. With 3 attempts per assignment, I got 100% Easily. The Final however was challenging. I felt the wording on some questions was uncertain and at 30% of my grade, it Hurt a LOT!! walked away with a C+
I took his class because the regular stats class were all filled up. I knew this class would be a little difficult, but when COVID hit, I felt that he wasn't as lenient as other teachers. We had a test every week and when COVID hit the last 2 weeks were hell. He gave us 2 tests in the last week NOT INCLUDING our final. Don't recommend at all.
Took a summer course in 2020, it was fast-paced and full of assignments and a fair bit of math, it could be a little bit confusing and was difficult at times, but if you put in the effort I think you'll be fine. His lectures were recorded in front of a class in the past and were a bit confusing for me but the textbook and the internet helped!
Econ 302 8 week online course. Lots of quizzes and the midterm and final are graded heavily, so if u bomb one or both, you will have a poor grade. All quizzes are basically on quizlet, but the final is on proctorio. Not the worst teacher for econ 302, but also not the best in my opinion.
No, just no. If you work or have a life outside of school, DO NOT. The textbook is huge and unhelpful, TIMED proctors exams which doesnt allow for work/school, just dont..
What was hard was the course material itself, it had nothing to do with the teacher. Econ 302 and 304 contains a lot of math. He provides prerecorded video lessons, instructions, study guides, etc. There are 3-4 quizzes and worksheet assignments per week. The online midterm and final are proctored through proctorio, so no open book.
Timed proctored exams. This class was the hardest Ive taken at CRC.
I dont recommend him.
Please dont especially if you have a busy life and lots of work in other classes. My brain hurts after taking his review for the final.
This class was a relatively big amount of homework, but I really enjoyed the class! Do the lecture notes- they are extra credit & are super great for learning the material. I barely used the textbook, if at all. Overall, loved Professor Fagin
Had online textbook (Achieve) for reading and homework. Had this as an 8-week so I had 2 chapters per week (16 chapters total), lots of reading but not overwhelming if you don't procrastinate. Must read to understand concepts. Grade is HW(40%) Midterm(30%) Final Exam(30%). Tests made up of multiple choice with long answer(s). Overall good class.
Dr. Fagin is a truly inspiring economics professor, whose unique background as a former rock star brings a fresh perspective to the classroom. He's engaging and knowledgeable making his lectures highly informative. Be prepared, Protorio exams are eminent. As Dr. Fagin would say, "read the text book and you will do well in this class".
The online version of this class felt impossible. The lectures were filmed from previous classes but the camera picked up so much background noise, and often went out of focus. I could never read what he was writing on the board because the lecture videos were such poor quality. I had to learn the majority of the content on YouTube.
In my personal experience, he was pretty chill. I took the 8-week course and the maximum amount of assignments I had to do per week was 7 and almost all of it were multiple choice questions and we rarely did anything on paper. Majority of the grade is all of the assignments and all of the questions on the final were mostly on the quizzes.
He was honestly a good teacher and didn't assign much work, most of it was multiple choice, a few worksheets and he graded those quickly with good feedback. He provided free textbook options that outlined each lesson. I took the 8-week course and it was less workload than the prior 8-week courses I've done but it was challenging but not impossible
If you want to fail this class take it with this professor. he give like 15 homework's every week and so hard question. So if you want to fail Econ take this professor if you don't to then don't take his class.
Lotsa homework each week. responds to emails very late takes about 2-3 days. And the instructions are very unclear. If you want to pass, don't Join this class!
You really need to read the textbook and supplemental notes. The videos are somewhat helpful, but the quality is bad in a lot of them bc they're taken from actual in person classes. The real textbook had chapters missing, which is weird bc he is the one who put the book together. He is pretty nice and his online office hours were helpful.
If you want to fail this or fail a class class then take it with this professor. he will give you like 15 homework's every week and so hard question. So if you want to fail Econ take this professor if you don't to then don't take his class. it's very video heavy.
He is clear in his lectures and will answer all your questions. The exams mirror the lectures so there are no surprises. You will need to read the textbook to do some of the homework and study for exams. 3 exams total including the final which are 50 multiple choice and a couple of word and calculation problems. Lowkey hard so ask questions.
Avoid this professor. 2 exams are worth 60% of your grade. He is inflexible. The tests are difficult and worth so few points that even missing one question on them can result in a 1% loss of your course grade. If you miss one of his "long questions" be prepared to lose 10% of your class grade. Take someone else (but not Yoon either)
Rude, aggressive and self important
So much homework tbh
The course material in ECON302 can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuckstudy AI alongside the textbook and pre-recorded lectures helps a lot. The professor is approachable, and online office hours are useful. Just stay on top of the frequent quizzes and exams.
Pick a different professor. Not saying he is a bad professor, but he lowkey is. Its hard to take notes of what he lectures about bc his handwriting is bad or his marker is drying out ... Not to mention the "lecture videos" he uploads to "help" are old and blurry and you cant hear anything or read what he writing on the whiteboard.Pretty frustrating
He has videos if you need extra help but these videos are really hard to watch because of the quality.
Dr. Fagin is a great professor.
Watching the lectures is very important for this class. He does not respond to emails often, so if something happens in life, don't expect any grace on turning in assignments. The tests account for so much of your grade if you do poorly on one it can fail you, and the smaller assignments are worth barely any points but require so much work.
Dr. Fagin is an extraordinary professor. I like how he keeps up with real-life events and news, which makes him relevant and engaging. His class can involve quite a handful of homework assignments, but the homework does help with the material he teaches in class, and helps a lot for the exams and final. Showing up matters, and be ready to learn.
Professor Fagin assigns constant homework, and his tests are heavy. If you are used to studying more than three hours for a class, you will be fine; if not, then good luck. He offers a couple of extra credits, and if you miss an assignment, even due to technical issues, he will not take it, so he is pretty strict. He is a great guy, but tough.
The best economics professor. Lots of homework but he has lecture videos that help on Canvas and office hours.
Hard class. Amazing professor. Direct lectures.
I do not understand why people think he is a bad professor, I have had the most interesting and engaging lectures in this class. Really recommended if you are actually trying to learn and not taking the course for an easy "A". Really passionate about what he does, homework problems and exam are really similar.
Took this class online and would email him for help and he would never get back to me. He would then leave comments telling me its wrong then I would comment back then he would just go ghost. Very tough grader.
Very bad professor. Doesn't respond half of the time to questions about assignments or grades. His assignments should be for a 3 unit class; they honestly felt like my 6 unit class assignments. Lectures are so long and very uninteractive for an online class. You will have to put hours into his class and do assignments exactly to his liking.
