He's a great lecturer, very funny and very knowledgeable. He makes complex ideas very understandable.
I loved this class! Dr. Gantt was funny, enlightening, and provocative. Go IceCats!
SOOOOOOOOOO BORING!!!! And did I mention USELESS?
This was a great class. It was a lot to take in a a good deal of work, but he's a great teacher (and a great coach!) I learned a lot from him and found him very friendly, and helpful.
He rants about his own personal views the whole class period. Rarely does he say anything that ends up on the exams, but pop quizzes make it so you have to attend. There is an excruciating amount of reading and you never know what will be on the exams.
His class will make you think. It reguires intelligence. If you want to develop critical skills, and gain knowledge he is your man. If you are less intelligent and want to get an easy A without thinking, then don't take it. He's the best I have had.
I got an A in the course, but he was the worst lecturer. He would ramble and go off on tangents. Some people seem to think it requires inteligence to get an A in his class. It just requires reading the book during the lectures so you don't fall asleep.
HOLY FREAKING BOOOOORING! Like 60% of your grade depends on quizzes and peer evaluation. And a TON of reading! Crazy amounts! I dropped this class in a heartbeat! I went for 3 class periods, and couldn't handle his incessant rambling! ARGH! He makes a class that could be interesting tough
He is crazy!! He stressed me out in class because of his nonstop pacing back and forth! The class was kinda interesting but mostly not. Pop quizzes once or twice a week, and the tests are on the reading...quiz questions are in the tests a lot of the time, so they're worth it.
Quizzes took up to much classtime. He has a wealth of knowledge in his head but hasn't learned to share it clearly. He could be one of the best teachers on campus. Still he is better then the other teacher for this class. Class didn't seem too heavy on reading, normal amount for a upper-level class.
Good teacher and interesting but class seems redundant after awhile
Great teacher, I love philosophy and loved having the class, but the girl next to me fell asleep everyday, if you like philosophy then you'll like the class. Made me head towards Theoretical Philosophical Psychology!
SO much reading! Some of it was interesting most of it was just a waste of time. All in all the grade had nothing to do with the long terrible lectures.Come to think of it the grade didn't really come from the reading either. Passed the class but it sucked
He really doesn't stay on topic. If you read and study the pop quizzes, you'll do fine on the tests. I felll asleep almost every day and still did fine. The reading was a bit annoying though.
Prof. Gantt is amazing! He is so intelligent and extremely good at explaining issues and concepts. This class should be required for all students - it really helps you critically think about issues.
Professor Grantt is the best!! I think everyone that is interested in psychology should take his LDS Perspectives and Psychology class!! I learned so much from our class discussions. I think I learned more about psychology in that class than any other I took.
Fun teacher. Good lectures.
Dr. Gantt is awesome, I loved his class. I could listen to him lecture all day! He's interested in his students, especially those who take time to visit his office to talk about the class. Unfortunately, his tests are written by his TA's and they are often off the wall, with questions about obscure material that was never discussed.
Brilliant teacher but you'll have to do alot of reading, it's worth it though, in my oppinion. If you prepare for every quiz like it's a test (no skimming) you'll come out just fine.
Honestly, I felt prepared most of the time, but rather than being tested on the overall idea of the reading -- the points that would actually stick with you -- you are tested on trivial details. The "group" grading is ridiculous. He is a very interesting and funny professor, he knows what he's talking about, he just doesnt know how to present it
Hillarious teacher, I loved coming to his classes. He made the subject very interesting.
Entertaining, interesting, and makes you really want to learn.
I've had Dr. Gantt for two classes and I think he brings a wonderful perspective to Psychology. I think this class should be required for all Psych students. I couldn't get enough in 353--the readings and lectures were great.
Dr. Gantt is a great guy, so funny and makes the topic interesting. However, there is A LOT of reading and I didn't like how we never knew when the quizzes were. I also thought that the test format was very different from the quizzes and made it somewhat hard to study. But if you do the reading and stay on top of the work you'll do fine.
I was not looking forward to this class but it was awesome! He has a lot of good insights and adds the LDS perspective. Go to review sessions for tests and you'll get A's. TAs were great. He posts a discussion board to answer students' questions. Group/Individual Quizzes. 4 Tests. Fair Grading.
he is very philosophical, especially in 210, but it's good stuff. he doesn't talk to undergrads that much, but he's entertaining in the classroom. his tests are pretty straighforward in each class. i reccommend taking him.
The only person with more stupidity that Ed Gantt is the person who hired him. Aweful teacher!
I was a bit worried about this class before taking it..history of psychology just didn't sound that interesting. But Dr. Gantt made the class well worth it. It was a very good class. Lots of reading, the quizzes were easy, the tests sometimes hard. (but that's what you get when TA's write them) I would take another class from him in a heartbeat.
The best teacher I've had at BYU. He'll answer any questions he can, but will admit he doesn't know if he can't help. After class discussions with him are interesting, though not always helpful.
Dr. Gantt is a terrific teacher, knows his stuff, is enthusiastic, energetic, and has a great sense of humor. The class was tough, lots of reading, but the grading/testing was fair and the TAs really helped out alot. I'd take another class from him in a hearbeat.
Not a bad class...but he's funny and he helps you if you need!!!
I am always worried about professors that can't admit that they do not know something. Professor Gantt never said he didn't know an answer and seemed to just make stuff up on the fly. Gantt is probably the worst professor that I have had.
What I really don't understand is why we had Gantt at all if we were to learn by ourselves reading about 50 pages of the textbooks for each class and be quizzed on the stuff that we've read at home also almost every class. Then, after the quiz he would give you a lecture and explain what we just read. I did not enjoy this class at all.
Great professor!! I found myself going home thinking about the lectures and what we discussed that day. VERY interesting and knowledgeable. He knows how to explain concepts and ideas
I learned a lot in this class but can't attribute any of that to Gantt. I like his choice of text books though, the readings are very interesting. I like his grading style. Just go to class and read the text and you should get an A.
Amazing class! Professor Gantt is incredible! The class lectures/discussions are fascinating. He is very animated and a lot of fun! Tests are very straightforward, just make sure you go to class and do the reading. Don't take this class from anyone else!!
Gantt loves to hear himself speak. Absolutely loves it. I think he practices in front of the mirror. I enjoy the material we discuss, and am glad I took the class. My only trouble was in 353 I'd memorize the test studyguides only to have none of it on the test, ever, and he never had time to talk during office hours or offer help.
Hypocrite. He talks about transcending the constraints of regular psych, but uses the most archaic and ineffective tests (multiple choice). Refuses to review before tests or review tests, so you can't learn or grow. At average grade is a C with no intention of helping anyone out. Stick with Dr. Slife and ignore this guy.
Doesn't believe in partial credit, so rote memorization is mandatory. Tests require mind-reading. Foucs on worthless details, don't try to actually learn anything because it won't help your grade. Watch for lists and any worthless detail spouted during class. Better yet, avoid this class and take Slife for 311.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He made choosing psych as a major worth it. The class is super interesting and the readings are awesome. You do have to read a lot.
I took this class thinking that this could be the class for me. Instead, I noticed quickly that Gantt doesn't respect student opinions...he will rip you apart if you try to debate. Also, the tests contained small details from the readings, and rarely contained the important stuff. Lastly, there is no debating over gades, what he says goes.
Dr. Gantt is a really smart teacher and the readings for this class are awesome. but can you say TANGENTS!! he is full of them. sometimes they seem really useless, but overall it's a good class.
He teaches some amazing ideas. Too bad he goes out of his way to trip up/confuse students so they get mediocre grades. Audit the class because you'll learn amazing things. None of it will be tested. Instead, memorize anything numberated in the readings.
Awesome teacher with a huge amount of excitement for the material. Explains it in an interesting, and applicable way. I really enjoyed his class and his personality. Lots of reading, but tests are easy.
Gantt is one of the worst professors I've had at BYU. He thinks he's such a great philosopher, but really he just comes across as an idiot. I think it's a joke that he's allowed to teach at BYU. I put tons of effort into this class and did all the readings, some of them twice, yet still only managed a C. His tests are impossible to do well on.
He's crazy!!! in a good way and he likes to talk a lot but usually its a good thing. cuz he knows what he's talking about.
Terrible class. Why pay for and show up to class when all we learn is what we read in the textbooks? Usually more than 100 pages a day (summer), then he doesn't teach anything. Quizzes and tests are ridiculously hard and they cover his interpretation of philosophy which usually was not covered in class.
I had to study like crazy but the work paid off for an A. If you are already taking classes that will be time consuming then do not take this one as it will require hours of reading. Definitely attend the study sessions
A rather closeminded approach to truth. He believes no good theories out there because they all come from the apostate condition. Just do the readings and you'll get an A.
He is the smartest man I have ever heard Speak. If you want to be entertained come to his class.
Dr. Gantt is extremely entertaining to listen to lecture. Watch out though because his tests are nothing like what you would expect from the lecture.
i dont know what i was thinking. i took history of psych from gantt and hated his style of teaching then, and continue to hate his style of teaching. Beware the red headed TA. her reviews were pointless. Just an opportunity for her to pontificate. i felt dumber having attended them.
Oh man...hard class. Good but hard. He didn't make it harder , it's just a lot of dense material. Very funny, made a lot of dumb jokes that eased the stress a bit. I added the class in the 3rd week, I don't recommend that, but he really worked with me to keep me up and not let me fail the class. Make sure you have time for tons of reading.
Knowledgeable, but arrogant. Conflicted TA's reviews. Painfully boring lectures, little to do with exams. TAs were unclear during reviews and sometimes told wrong, or irrelevant information. You could memorize all the readings and never go to class. I pulled an A- only because I knew the material from other psych and philosophy classes.
Dr. Gantt is an amazing professor, and really understands the philosophical assumptions of psychology. He is very pointed in his criticisms of the discipline, and is exactly right.
Gantt is the man. If you want to be a psychologist in this secular world, you need to hear his take on philosophy. I would recommend this class to anyone. It is not as hard as everyone says. Just pay attention to the readings and attend class. You will quickly catch on to his quiz/testing style and get an A.
He is great!
I hated his class, he is the worst professor I have had so far. I have no idea what the other people were thinking when they rated him but I am being true, don't take his class. He is highly opinionated and never backs up his opinions. It feels like he never prepares for class nor does his TA's.
I went the first month or two and decided to just stop attending because his lectures are useless. I still made A's on all the tests so obviously it's not the hardest class and they are totally based on the readings. The packet he put together was great though. Your whole grade is based off 5 tests, if your not good at tests, don't take the class.
Learned tons! Very relevant to the field of Psychology.
Extremely arrogant. Criticizes Psych giving his "reasons" why its wrong, but fails to mentions the reasons why he's right. He will not listen to students opinions, no matter how solid your argument against him is, you are wrong. If he sees where you're headed with something he will cut you off and finish just to seem like he is still the smart one.
Lectures were thought provoking; tests were not perfect, but reasonable. I had him for 353 and 354 and got As in both. Do your reading, pay attention in class, and thoroughly review reading assignments before taking the tests. If you aren't into critical thinking then stay away. Yes, he's opinionated, but I like his opinions. FYI: I am a senior.
I had him for LDS Perspectives. This class is extremely helpful, if for nothing more than just having a broader understanding of philosophical assumptions. It helped me recognize assumptions I didn't even know I was making. It'll only be useful if you stay open-minded and realize that he might not be so open-minded. DO THE READINGS!
He rambles in class. Who knows what he is talking about half the time, but somehow it's important. Do the readings or you will fail. Attend the reviews for tests and pester the TA's for as much info as possible
Extremely arrogant and completely unhelpful to students- his TA's are clueless- and that is the only help he offers
He really knows what he's talking about. He's great at making difficult material easier to understand, but he rarely lets students in on the discussion. Ignores raised hands and interrupts when he does call on them. Every class there is a group or individual quiz. Go to TA reviews, cuz it's hard to tell what's important for the midterms otherwise!
You either hate him or you love him. I love him. His lectures (range all over the place) are electrifying and very thought-provoking. I think many students just aren't ready to really think deeply about the issues he raises. Some maybe just hate having to think or defend the opinions they have so they think he's arrogant but he's not.
The first 3/4 of the Psych 210 course prepares you for a good base in Philosophy not Psychology. I enjoyed the reading VERY much although Gant's style of teaching isn't the most effective. He uses virtually no media or class interaction. There is no doubt that he knows his stuff, but lectures are tough to follow and irrelevant to tests or quizes
I wouldn't take this course from him if you could find a better professor with higher ratings. His TA's make up the quizes which are literally given every class period. The quizes are poorly written considering the MASSIVE amount of reading that is required for this class. MC, his TA was great, the others were useless.
Fun class, very engaging and relevant even if it doesn't seem like it at first. Gantt knows his stuff and loves his students. Tests are not necessarily tied to the lectures, but follow the books really close. Great class for you if you want to learn, not so good if you want easy information spoon fed to you by some monotonous droner.
He is really hard to understand, and often gets so far lost on tangents that no one has any idea what he's talking about. His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with his tests, yet he takes attendance so you have to be there. He's a nice guy, but not a very good professor.
great class!!! i learned more in one week from dr gantt than i learned in 4 years of seminary and sunday school!!! tests are hard but class is a blast!!! he's a great lecturer and really loves the book of mormon and really cares about his students!!!
Amazing!! Love the guy! And he totally works with you if you are struggling. The class isn't hard...you just have to do the reading!!!
Dr. Gantt goes off on tangents but they really make you think. If you do the readings then you will do fine on his tests and quizzes. He is very fair on reconsidering test questions for credit. i highly recommend taking a class from him. i learned so much!
Dr. Gantt is the best! Yes, the classes are demanding and the reading is intense, but he doesn't just teach history. He teaches the foundation of modern psychology down to the philosophical roots and teaches students to take accountability for their moral and intellectual standpoints. He is very accommodating and the TAs are always willing to help.
He's not the easiest professor, but what he teaches will change the way you understand the world because he asks the questions that actually matter.
Very insightful, and very opinionated. He does a very, very good job of exploring the philosophical assumptions of psychology. However, because he feels that few academics truly view psychology from an LDS or Christian perspective, he doesn't show both sides of the issues and can come across as extreme. Definitely worth taking, though.
I am an senior with an A avg and this class killed it GPA wise (C grade). If you cannot take test that seem random in what they are actually testing; this is not for you. I still recommend it though to anyone regardless of your major. It makes you think so much and its applicable throughout life. You hate or love him, just ask questions!
This class had zero structure...just the professor standing in front of the class rambling for three hours straight and using really fancy words. No doubt he's very smart and the topic is important, but without any structure, this class bore me to tears.
Dr. Gantt is awesome! You learn so much. He's open to questions and explains material very nicely. His class is hard. You have to know your materials. There's lots of reading and quizzes nearly every day.But if you work hard, study hard, see your T.A., talk with him, and do your best, the class is definitely worth it.I highly recommend him.
He was fascinating as a BOM prof! We did a slow read, only two chapters a week. I didn't always agree with his strong opinions, but his insight makes you think. I appreciated both his scholarly and spiritual perspective. I learned a ton from him! Lectures were very interesting. Highly recommend him for religion classes
This class was mostly philosophy, with the last month or so psychology. Straight lecture that tends to be repetitive, I was never able to focus for an entire class period. Reading quizzes every day. Must be very involved throughout the course to get even a C.
We are so lucky to have Dr. Gantt as a professor here. He has a brilliant and revolutionary mind within the world of psychology. He's completely changed the way I look at the discipline, he puts everything into perspective. It's hard work, but so rewarding.
This class is HARD! Don't freak out when you get a D (or even an E) on your first paper. He doesn't count your early scores. Even though it wasn't an easy class, I felt like I learned a ton. He really helped me to think critically about psychology and helped me understand a lot of the underlying issues--like determinism, reductionism, etc.
The readings in this class were very important. You take quizzes a lot and you need to do the reading prior to going to class to do well on the quizzes. The exams were pretty intense and reading material and class lecture information was tested. It can be an interesting class if you enjoy philosophy.
I don't know how he is as a psych professor, but I did not like him as a religion one. We spent a lot of time talking about poetic and grammatical structures and almost no time applying the scriptures to our lives. Grades were the big course project and the tests which are based on his boring lectures.
Dr. Gantt is very philosophical. Try to stick with his lectures. It might seem like he's rambling on and on but pay attention and you will learn a lot because his ideas will force you to think about your own. You can get a lot of brain exercise in this class.
I don't know how he is as a psychology professor but he does not know how to teach Book of Mormon. If you like Hebrew and Greek ideology and ancient poetry structures then he's your guy. Tests destroy your grade and your grade is the tests. Pass.
Amazing professor! He challenges you to think about really important issues in psychology, philosophy, and religion. Not your ordinary teacher. He cares about his students and really pushes you to learn the material and think about how it applies. Be ready to read alot and listen carefully to what he is teaching.
Gantt is a fantastic teacher and is genuinely interested in his students. I learned a lot from the class. VERY heavy reading. The reading is difficult to understand at times, but it really helps you analyze things better. Reading is necessary for group and individual quizzes. Loved the class mostly because Gantt is interesting.
Not sure why some of the others on here didn't like Gantt's Book of Mormon class. It was the best religion class I've ever taken here at BYU in 4 years. It was intellectually and spiritually stimulating. The final proejct was hard but I really learned a ton.
Professor Gant does not want anyone to understand the material but himself. He had a guest speaker come once and he taught the material so much better I wish he could've been our teacher. Gant's quizes and tests are really really hard! He looks to trick you so watch out!
Not sure what that last guys (girls's) problem is but Dr. G is one of the best teachers at this school. His lectutres are amazing. He's funny, brilliant, and really does care that we know the material. There is a ton of reading and the quizzes and exams are tough, but you can do well if you study hard and work with the TAs. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
I loved this class. Dr. Gantt talks A LOT but he's really interesting most of the time and you can tell that he really cares about the material. This course really made me think and was probably my favorite that I have taken thusfar. Dr. Gantt is very funny and very nice. Take this class from him.
Dr. Gantt is an amazing professor. His lectures really make you think. It was a fascinating class that made me think about the world in new ways. He is an engaging lecturer and you can tell that he loves what he teaches and wants his students to understand what he's teaching. His tests aren't easy-pay attention and study hard and you'll do great!
Great class if you're interested in learning and developing as a person, not if you want a professor who teaches for the test. You learn critical thinking skills and learn establish your own beliefs and give reasons. Absolutely amazing class.
if you want an easy A dont take this class but he does only have you read parts of the bohm which is very nice. if you wanna learn about some greek and hebrew bake ground and the book of mormon take this.
Dr. Gantt is one of the best professors I've ever had at BYU. The class is not easy - you need to do all of the readings, and be able to critically think about the material and interact with him rather than just memorize facts. However, if you put in the effort and really think about what he's telling you, it can change your life.
Professor Gantt was alright as a teacher. I thought that the readings were really intellectual and hard. The tests did not seem to reflect what was learned in class. People who were a lot smarter than me loved him, but people with a little lower than average (at BYU that is) intelligence thought he was ok.
Dr. Gantt's class was really hard. There are 20 quizzes and four tests which are really heavily based on the reading which can be difficult to understand. The class is interesting but a GPA killer!
Dr. Gantt will change your life. If you are going to school to be a follower, to get a grade, and to blend in with the rest of society this class is not for you. It's hard, it requires reading, pondering, and personal reflection. This class will make you into a person who wants their ideas to matter in the world. If this sounds like you, take it!
I LOVED this class! Loved his lectures and the reading. If you're not interested in Philosophy/Psychology it could be rough but even then the lectures are exciting and interesting
Hardest, most rewarding class I have ever taken in my four years at BYU. The work load is challenging, the papers are very difficult, and the reading is technical. Still, I learned more about critical thinking and careful writing in this class than any other class ever. Dr. Gantt really cares about his students and really pushes you to excel.
Yes, the class it challenging (just like any other college class). But if you're really interesting in pursuing psychology this is an amazing class to take. It really gives you perspective and insight into psychology as a science and teaches you to question the ideas modern psychology is based on.
Dr. Gantt's plus is that he is entertaining. GO TO CLASS: there is almost always a pop quiz. Individual quizzes are easy, group quizzes are killer--harder than the exams in my opinion. The TAs are who you really want to befriend. They write the exams and grade everything. Go to class, do the reading, and go to the TA reviews and you will be fine
This class literally changed my life. You will have to read a lot of difficult literature, and understand it very well to score high on exams, but if you invest the time and effort you will be rewarded with a good grade and incredible insights. His lectures are "old school", which some don't like, but since he is brilliant, they are brilliant also.
No evidence Gantt has tried to improve his course or tests. Lectures were non-representative of critical material. Material was not hard, but exams were poorly writtenbased on ability to decipher what a question was asking, not on actual knowledge. Only 5 students got A-. Worst Prof. I've had. I do NOT recommend him unless you enjoy frustration.
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. It's ridiculous for a pre-req class. I've considered switching my major multiple times because of this class. Even if you do the reading you won't do well. There is a ridiculous amount of reading every night. Lectures have nothing to do with the tests but you have to go because there's a quiz every class.
The lectures are so good. He is so interesting and the material is way cool. There is a lot of reading but it is interesting stuff to read if you like philosophy. I like Gantt's passion.
With his style of teaching there is no need for a teacher! Get ready to read A LOT of material which is not easy to understand, so get ready to re- read it. In class, he doesn't even cover the reading so you really have to do the reading if you want to pass his tests which literally do not cover anything he talks about in class.
Dr. Gantt's lectures are hard to follow because there are rarely powerpoints or an identifiable meaning to the lectures. He jumps to all sorts of topics and is hard to follow. The readings are at least 70 pages a night and pretty much every class period there is a quiz. Also I didn't get my test scores back for a month and a half after the test...
Dr. Gantt is an amazing professor. I love his lectures because he hardly ever uses power points, he just stands at the front of the class and talks. This class had a lot to do with philosophy and A LOT of reading, but it is still great! His lectures will inspire you and make you think, and think, and think about the things that he teaches.
Every class period there are quizzes. There are two types: group quizzes and individual quizzes. Individual quizzes aren't that difficult once you get the hang of what he's looking for. Group quizzes are harder because they are short answer and address abstract information from the reading. One positive is that you get 200 points for group quizzes.
After just over 4 years at this university, I finally had a class with from a professor who is worthy of the title. Gantt is simply amazing! His lectures are intense and make you think about things in really new ways. Amazing class, amazing professor! Totally changed my life and the way I think about things.
Dr Gantt. makes this class really hard. There are a ton of reading with quizzes every class that include group quizzes. Dr. Gantt acts like he is God's gift to psychology. Many questions on his test start with, "According to Dr. Gantt..." He paces around the room while he lectures with no slideshow, and talks about his own ground-breaking insights.
Gantt's class is mind-blowing. There is a ton to read and some of its tough and boring, but the lectures are great. He's very funny and makes really hard material easy to understand and definately knows his stuff. takes lots of questions and will meet outside of class to really talk about your ideas as well as the stuff from class.
Dr. Gantt was an inspirational teacher. The class feels like more of a philosophy course at first, but comes back around to psychology in the long run. There is a lot of assigned reading (about 2.5 hours worth before every class) and the tests are hard but if you put in the work then you will learn a lot.
Prof. Gantt is a good teacher and his lectures are humorous. The entire semester we learned about the philosophy of the history of psychology rather than the actual history. There was also a TON of reading (it was on AVERAGE about 80 pages a class period). If you like philosophy and teachers who teach without powerpoints, you will love this class.
SO. MUCH. READING. Unless you are a fast reader or have lots of time on your hands, take this class from someone else. I absolutely hated this class. It was philosophy the entire time, not psychology. Perhaps I am biased because I have no interest in philosophy, but his lectures were long and boring,
Lots of reading... EVERY NIGHT. You're quizzed on your reading in both groups and individual quizzes. They're tough, but if you read in-depth it's fine. Tests are very hard. Study, do every reading, take notes, go to as many reviews as you can, and study some more. Dr. Gantt is super inspirational and amazing, just be ready to work. Loved the class
Take this class from Gantt! He is so passionate and not a typical boring history teacher. There are individual and group quizzes every week based on the readings, but they help you learn the material. Tests have a large written portion but aren't hard. Put in the time and you will do well. One of the best classes I've taken at BYU so far!
This class was one of the best and influential classes that I have ever taken. Dr. Gantt is truly a great professor. His lectures are kind of old school. He stands up in front of class which sounds pretty unattractive but he does it in a way that is so effective. This class is hard and requires a lot of work but it's worth it. Not an easy grade.
This is a MUST-TAKE class for any BYU student regardless of major! Dr. Gantt will absolutely change the way you view philosophy, life, and your religion. It is challenging but you will become a better student and a better person. Fascinating insights, passionate lectures, and funny jokes. Prepare to have your mind BLOWN!
Group quizzes are very very difficult. Individual quizzes are only a bit difficult. Dr. Gantt is a cool teacher and really makes you think, but the class is almost impossible to manage because of the endless reading you have to do before every lecture.
Dr. Gantt is the best! His class is super hard, there is lots of reading and the group quizzes are kind of a pain. The tests are also difficult with lots of essay questions. But, it was the most mind opening and in-depth class I have taken. Definitely my favorite class I have taken so far at BYU. It's a tough one, but totally worth it.
This is the hardest class I have taken. There is LOTS of reading. Group and/or individual quizz almost every class, and they are HARD! That being said, Dr. Gantt is AWESOME! He will make you think. He really cares about the students and our learning. If you want to truly learn then take this class, very worth it! Skip you are looking for an easy A.
Not a Psych major. But the class was amazing. Great gospel perspectives on psychology that are applicable for life and not just for psychology. Really hard, lots of reading, hard tests, but well worth what is learned. As well, pretty funny guy.
Quiz and test questions are impossible. Avoid this class
Not sure what that last guy's problem was, but Dr. Gantt's class is amazing. By far the best class I've taken in 4 years at BYU. It should be mandatory for all psych majors (and even professors). the only class I took here that truly changed my life. Gantt rocks!
Dr. Gantt is an inspirational guy that changed the way I see the world. If you love psychology, philosophy, or history, then you'll enjoy the class. Beware, there is a TON of reading (50 pgs. a night) and the group quizzes are difficult. However, the tests, individual quizzes, and participation balance them out. This class is why I'm a psych major.
Group quiz, individual quiz, and tests are super hard. but Dr. Gantt is good man
Dr. Gantt is hilarious, lectures are interesting and engaging, and the material is really cool, but this is a HARD class. They were group/individual quizzes almost every class so you can't ever miss, plus 50+ pages of reading for each class. Tests are really hard as well. Go to TA reviews, form study groups, and take extensive notes on the reading.
The best class I've ever taken. Life altering perspectives are developed during the class.
Dr. Gantt is a very funny man, and an excellent professors. Many of his lectures had life-altering perspectives presented in them in a way that gave everyone a chance to develop their own perspectives while learning the content of the class. It's a hard class, lots of reading for each class period with quizzes, but well worth it.
Dr. Gantt is really amazing and his lectures are interesting, engaging, and eye-opening. But, this class is HARD. Tons of reading, group and individual quizzes almost every day, and tests take 4+ hours of essay writing. It's a frustrating class sometimes, but it's very interesting and if you're willing to work, worth the effort for what you learn.
INSANE amount of reading. Tests are super subjective according to which TA you get. If you go to the TA review theyll tell you basically everything you should know and study for the test. He kinda made light of some things that he shouldnt like suicide and temple ordinances. Its really interesting and helps you stick to religion in psych. Valuable.
This class was very hard, but very rewarding. Dr. Gantt is funny, friendly, super-intelligent, cares about his students, and is serious about the gospel. If you take this class you better be ready to read alot, but its really mind-altering stuff. One of the best classes I've had at BYU.
What an amazing class! I learned to really think deeply about my faith and science adn psychology. Dr. Gant is hilarious and super smart, he really pushes you to think outside the box. There is alot to read but even the hard stuff is really deep and thought provoking. not just LDS students in psychology but everybody should take this class.
Tons of reading!!! Awesome class that made me think like no class I've ever had before. Gantt has jokes, but he's also a very careful and logical thinker. His lectures move really fast so pay attention and you will learn a ton!!!
Professor Gantt's class was the most reading I've ever done. It was more than I believed was necessary at times, especially since there would be multiple passages covering the same topics, but pop quizzes would come from both. But, the Lectures were inspiring and the course was incredible! He's a logical and deep thinker and you'll learn so much!!
All psych student, you must take 211 from Prof. Gantt if you would like to understand the philosophical challenges that psychology faces. If you want to make a real difference in the world of psychology, start with Prof Gantt. (also take 353 and 311 from him, in that order).
Professor Gantt's class changed my perspective on psychology and religion. It was one of the best classes I've ever taken. Yes there is a lot of reading, but by the end of the semester I felt like I really understood everything. I would recommend going to the TA reviews, they explain things in a different way and prepare you for the test.
This might be the most useful class material and information that I have received and learned while attending BYU. I enjoyed this class. This might be the BEST psychology course you can take at BYU.
Professor Gantt is amazing. He is intelligent, and his lectures are engaging and hilarious. The downside of this class is the fact that there is 60-70 pgs of reading before class, and a "pop quiz" almost every single class. Exams have 16 essay questions and take about 3 hours. BEWARE! Take this if you wanna drown and lower your GPA :-)
Professor Gantt is really great, and I loved his lectures, but wow this class was hard. If you're not absolutely sure you want to study psychology, do NOT take this class, because it will wreck your gpa. This class is all about philosophy, so you better really like that
This class is not for the faint of heart, but it's also the most rewarding class I've taken at BYU. Dr. Gantt's lectures give you a different perspective on psychology and life in general. The papers are very difficult, but you'll become a better writer if you take them seriously. One of the only classes that will leave a mark after graduation.
It's a hard class, but he's a pretty incredible professor. He knows what he's talking about and the material is intellectually enhancing for sure. This class totally changed my perspective on psychology, gave me hope for being LDS while also having a successful psychology career and helped me narrow down my focus as a psychology major.
He knows his stuff for sure. Be prepared to read 100+ pages a week. Lectures are long and if you don't find philosophy interesting (yes, philosophy not psychology) it may be hard to stay awake. Tests are very extensive 2-4 hours and require several pages of writing. Hard class - I did well only because of the TA review sessions
Tough class, but honestly so worth it. If you work hard, you can get the grade you want. There's a lot of reading, but the material is fascinating so it's enjoyable. Gantt truly has a way of making you think. I looked forward to lectures because they were mind-blowing. Given I'm a psych major, but this was one of the best classes I've taken at BYU.
I've learned more from him than any other professor. His way of thinking about the world is infectious. He's very engaging, passionate, and at times polarizing; he doesn't mess around with what he teaches. His motto is "Ideas have consequences" and he will chase down ideas to within an inch of their lives. Expect lots of reading and philosophizing.
This class is very interesting and can change your perspective of psychology in a semester. It's not an easy class, you can't breeze by with doing the minimum amount of work- you have to actually put in effort and DO the readings for once. It's time consuming, but Dr. Gantt holds you accountable for your own learning and it pays of in the end!
Gantt is more than willing to help students, you just have to reach out. He pushes you to think & work hard--DO IT. You WILL pass if you do the reading and go to test reviews. Best professor I have ever had.
One of the most thought provoking classes Ive ever taken (and most relevant). The reading is extensive but interesting. Quizzes are tough but manageable. Dont take the class to get a good grade, take the class to LEARN
Best class I've ever taken. Dr. Gantt takes on difficult subjects head on without being a jerk or condescending. He really offers a new paradigm in which to see the world, the Gospel and psychology. The spirit was very strong in class and I still can't stop thinking about what I've learned. TAKE THIS CLASS
There is an unclear grading system for Psych 311 that makes it impossible to track your progress. Prof. Gantt is intelligent and invested in his students, but he has controversial and insensitive opinions, which are quite disturbing. Additionally, this class is based heavily in philosophy, which is not clear from the title of the course.
Honestly hated this class. Lectures were basically pointless, but you had to show up because pop quizzes. Everything was so unclear of what you were supposed to do, and theres easily 100+ pages of reading due every class that you have a quiz on. He seems funny in the beginning, but in person he isnt and in general is super distracted. Not a fan
Not sure why anyone would rate Dr. Gantt or this class low. He is an amazing teacher who has super high standards and demands alot of students but cares so much about them and gives so much to the class. This class changed my life, the way I think about psychology, and the relationship I have with God and others. Totally worth the hard work!
This class will change your life, for real. However, please understand this is a hard class. Like really hard, I spent easily 12 hours a week outside class trying to understand the material. It was worth it in the end, and I highly recommend, but before taking Gantt's class make sure you have the time, because you will work your ass off.
Personality: Extremely thought provoking class and one of my favorites at BYU. The papers and summaries were tough, yet they helped me become a much better writer. Dr. Gantt really cares about the topics presented and is very willing to answer questions and meet after class to hash out ideas. Readings were very interesting too. TAKE THIS CLASS
This class has really changed my view of the world and I was able to gain an appreciation for the philosophers that helped to shape psychology. This class was not easy. There was a ton of reading, pop quizzes, and hard Exams. Dr Gantt may seem a little harsh before you get to know him, but he really cares and wants you to succeed in his class.
Be ready for about 60 pages of reading per class, plus a "pop" quiz almost every day. Gets off on tangents easily, which can be funny or annoying. Going to class was helpful because the readings were very difficult to understand. Handwritten notes only in his class. Not a fun or easy class, but Gantt's the best of the few teachers for this prereq.
I learned a ton in this class! It is not an easy class, and part of the reason why is Dr. Gantt expects you to really learn from everything you are reading. Everything we talked about could apply to our lives in one way or another. I would recommend taking this class at the beginning of your psychology major!
Dr. Gantt is a nice man and very knowledgeable, but I absolutely hated this class. The workload was extremely heavy and unforgiving, especially after going online because of COVID-19 (ex: we had to check for pop quizzez @ 9:30 mst regardless of our own time zones, they were only open for 15 minutes). Class was draining, and felt too opinionated.
Incredible class. Favorite I've ever taken. Honestly, on paper this a class I would not like. Lots of mandatory reading, group orientated and quizzes, but don't let that scare you. I just wanted to sit in the back and sleep, however, this became an incredible experience. Absolutely life-changing and 100% shaped how I view the world. Gantts amazing.
Unbelievable amount of reading. Pop quiz almost every class on said reading, but only open from 7am until class at 9:30. My classmates and I were so overworked we sent multiple emails asking for additional help during these times, to which prof ignored and TAs replied "many students have survived this class, you have the resources needed". dropped.
This is one of the best classes I have ever taken at BYU. Dr. Gantt is so knowledgeable, but so approachable and eager to help students. The class is really tough and theres tons of reading but his lectures are really great and inspiring. I cant wait to take another class from him.
Really nice guy who's willing to work with you and wants you to succeed, but such a different teaching style that I feel like only a few students get what's going on and enjoy it. Most of the class is just writing papers that are graded super harshly (like no one gets As or even Bs until the last few papers).
I loved this class! Gantt's perspective should be the norm in the psych dpetartment. He takes the gospel seriously and shows how it makes such a difference for how we should be doing therapy and research. The papers are really har but the feedback and he and the tas are so willing to go the extra mile to help out. This class should be required!
Dr. Gantt is very clear that this won't be an easy class, but it's so worth sticking with it. I came into it thinking that I would hate it, but it ended up being my favorite class. There is a ton of reading but it's doable! Just stay on top of it. I learned so much from his class, I'd totally take it from him again.
This class is the first time I ever received a zero on a paper. He is a very tough grader and expects too much. The class had nothing to do with personality and was more just his ideas on philosophy. I ended up withdrawing from this class because it was so difficult and impossible to get a good grade. He is a great guy but his classes are crazy.
This class was always my favorite part of the day! Dr Gantt makes boring old white dudes and their ideas interesting and relevant to current psychology and your life. Be prepared to work hard though, this class is not easy and does require lots of reading.
I know that Dr. G isn't everybody's favorite but I honestly can't see why. His classes have chnged my life. His classes are tough but doable if you put in the work and are willing to think a little bit deeper than most psychology classes or psychologists ever do. He caer so much about his students and their success that he is willing to push hard.
I gave this class a 5 for difficulty only because of the workload. There are pop quizzes throughout the semester, so you have to do all of the readings. There were weeks where I had 10+ hours of philosophical readings. That being said, he has entertaining lectures even if he does come off as a bit arrogant or rude at times.
His class was really hard, but it was also really rewarding. The way I think about the world has changed and I'm so grateful for his class. My advice is to really soak in the lectures for your own benefit, but to get an A: do the readings, take notes in class, discuss with your quiz group, and attend every single review session before the test.
Your GPA will take a hit but you'll be a better psychologist if you take this class. Question is whether that's worth it to you. It should be.
This is my favorite class I've taken so far at BYU. It's a lot of work, but this professor makes the learning so interesting and he's hilarious! Definitely take this class if you like to learn!
it's clear prof. gantt really cares about his classes and knows what he's talking about. he puts in effort in his lectures and his tests aren't easy but they are fair for the most part. only warning i have is that there is a lot of reading and pop quizzes but besides that i really enjoyed the class
Dr. Gantt cares so much about his students. He teaches with the spirit and the lectures can make you a better person. Though there is a lot of reading and work it is all geared to make you more successful, none of it is unnecessary. I am SO thankful for him and this class.
Gantt knows what hes talking about and cares about his subject and students. Readings arent necessary if you go to class every day. No daily homework unless you do the reading. Lecture, not discussion, based class periods. The only things that count towards your grade are group quizzes, exams, and the final. Great guy; great class.
I really enjoyed this class. Be prepared to read and do the readings before every class to understand the lectures. Make sure to check for pop quizzes, but there are enough dropped that a couple of bad scores wont ruin you.
Professor Gantt was my favorite professor this past semester. He is deeply philosophical and cares deeply about the topics that he teaches. The entire course was deeply life-changing for me. I worked hard for this class, and it was worth it. DO THE READINGS, there are frequent pop quizzes before arriving to class. Tests are difficult but doable. :)
Dr Gantt is a really nice guy; however, He does have his students do about double the amount of reading than any other psych 210 professor. Some weeks I did about 12 hours of philosophical reading. You have 14 individual pop quizzes, about 10 group pop quizzes, and 3 exams (50% of grade). Those are the only things that count towards your grade.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken was Psych 210 from him. His readings were way too long, the pop quizzes were impossible, and he would rant about things that did not pertain to the lessons for way too long. Seriously hard grader and hard topic to understand.
PSY 210 should be a mandatory class for all psych majors. This is a class that really expands your worldview and teaches you to become a better psychologist. The assigned readings might seem a lot, but they are definitely worth it and I plan to read them even after I finish the class. TAs are really really helpful and take your feedback seriously.
REQUIRES reading a 500+ page book & 27ish textbook chapters (sometimes 50+ pages), totaling about 1500+ pages of reading. No essays & the tests are EXTREMELY DETAILED surveys of this insane reading load. That said. If you accept/take the time, you will understand psychology in profundity and you will never see human experience the same again.
This class seriously changed my life, but it is a LOT of reading. Very interesting reading, but a lot of it. If you take notes and do all the readings, you will do just fine :)
The other good ratings are very accurate. This class is difficult, but if you put in the work it WILL be worth it! The philosophical/psychological readings are long, but I have found them to be pretty digestible and interesting! Dr. Gantt has forever changed the way I view psychology, and I will always be grateful for that. DO THE READINGS!!
PSYCH 353 should be required for any psych major who wants to live their life in the gospel of Christ! This class has brought me closer to Christ more than any religion class. If you love philosophy and thinking deeper than you ever have before, take this! I never missed class once because I was always excited to go. Take it!
I LOVED Dr. Gantt. He honestly changed the way I look at my life for the better. He is uplifting, inspiring, and hilarious. If you get a chance to take his class, DO IT, you won't be disappointed. If you do the readings, go to the lectures, and do the group quizzes you will do well in his class.
Doctor Gantt is an INCREDIBLE teacher, but the difficulty of work makes it difficult to love him. Lots of people here saying they got A's, but AVG grade in the class was around a B. Do all the reading for the quizzes, and work hard on group quizzes. Those kill your grade not the tests. And if your TA is a hard grader, get ready. Grade is on you tho
This class has easily been my favorite at BYU so far. Dr. Gantt is such a good teacher, and his lectures are so interesting, thought-provoking, and fun. I left this class with a different worldview than I came into it with. There is a lot of reading and the exams are hard, but it is so rewarding and so worth it, and the TAs are really helpful.
Not gonna lie, this class was hard. Lots of reading and lots of difficult ideas to figure out. Still, it was hands down the best class I have ever taken. Gantt is a fantastic teacher, truly cares about both his students and the ideas. His class changed the way I think about everythign. Totally mindblowing. Definitely hard but very, very worth it.
The most spritually enlightening and uplifting class I have taken a BYU. So much more intellectually and spiritually powerful than even my religion classes. Dr. Gantt is a great teacher, pushes you to think more deeply than ever about psychology and the gospel. Changed my life forever. Wsh this class was required of every psych major.
While I still disagree with Dr. Gantt on several topics (the definition of agency, God's love is conditional, we aren't keeping our baptismal covenants unless we preach the gospel as therapists), I did learn a lot in this class- things that I'll actually keep with me/apply throughout my life. Keep an open mind, but be open to disagreeing as well.
I am not a psychology major anymore, but I am so glad I took this class before I switched. Dr. Gantt teaches in a masterful way about the historical background behind modern thought in psychology. He teaches his beliefs and owns up to it. He really cares about what he does. Take this or look into his other class, LDS perspectives on psych.
This class is no joke: it is hard and time-consuming. However, it's completely worth it for the psychology credit. Dr. Gantt is a challenging professor and he will make his opinions known, but nowhere has he said that his word is law. Overall, he does want to see his students succeed, but he makes them put in the time, work, and effort to do so.
The overall content of the course is interesting, but I didn't appreciate Dr. Gantt's savior complex opinion that was always shared. His TA's are amazing and he is very organized and I honestly don't know if there is a better professor than Gantt for this class. This class is very hard, but you learn a lot from it.
I love Professor Gantt! Reading heavy class (100+ a week). Quizzes(individual and group) every week and you'll need a good understanding of the reading. Books can be brought on Amazon pretty cheaply. Tests are a bit hard because everything builds and connects so review material constantly. Do a day section, evenings are a strain. TAs are amazing!
Honestly an amazing professor. You will learn in this class if you put in the work. If you need to take Psyc210, take it from Gantt!!! He knows a lot and is passionate about the subject. If you want to meet with him or the TA's outside of class they will make time for you. The tests are hefty but doable because of the study guides!
This class was less on the history of psychology and more history of philosophy. A lot of dense reading that we were quizzed on before discussing the material. The tests are brutal and take an insane amount of time. If you like philosophy this might be for you, but if you're hoping for psychology I'd take from another professor.
Great class, great professor, great lectures!!! While the class is heavy on philosophy it is NOT a philosophy class, everythig is about psychology and why it is the way it is right now. Ideas have consequences! Especially thos ideas we don't think about all the way through. tons of reading and the exams are tough but the class is so worth it.
Dr. Gantt is a great man! He is very passionate about the subject and has a ton a knowledge to share. The class can be quite overwhelming at times and it was difficult adjusting the amount of reading required. There are frequent pop quizzes and group projects throughout the semester. Much of your time for this class will be spent reading.
This was absolutely a philosophy class. This was the hardest psych class I have taken at BYU. Gantt was very passionate about the subject, but the tests were very difficult and he had pop quizzes all the time.
Gantt is amazing! this class was amazing. The lectures blew my mind almost everyday. There is a ton of reading assigned, but its manageable and its worth it. Dr. G is so inspirational, he is always making connectonis with the gospel. Lots of deep thinking about psychology in this class, not just its history.
This was easily the most important and spiritually uplifting course I've taken at BYU. More psy classes should be like this. The lectures are deep and really make you think about what you know about psychology and the gospel. Dr. G is an amazing teacher and the 2+ hours in class seems to go by so fast every time. This class saved my testimony.
I enjoyed Professor Gantt's course. Although it was daunting at first, if you stay on top of things you will be just fine. There is a lot of reading, pop quizzes, and group quizzes. However, there are extra credit opportunities. Professor Gantt and the TAs will help you succeed, and Dr. Gantt's lectures are inspiring and informative.
Dr. Gantt is amazing!!! I love every single lecture. The class is hard because exams are very detailed. However, if you pay attention in the lectures + go to the TAs review is 100% doable. There are weekly group quizzes and pop quizzes (but you can find out the pattern and be prepared for them). Not an easy A.
Professor Gantt has easily been one of my favorite professors, he knows how to listen to his students and really cares about what he teaches. He is very active when it comes to your learning and inspires all his students to raise the bar in their own education. This is a hard but rewarding class. Dr. Gantt's way of teaching is lecture-based.
Dr. Gantt is the most intelligent professor I've had at BYU. I enjoyed his approach to the history of psychology, but I doubt everyone will. If you don't enjoy deep thinking, it might be tough. Lots of reading, 6ish group quizzes, and many pop quizzes. Tests weren't too difficult - the TA's provided great study guides. Get a study partner and read!
One of the smartest people I have taken a class from. There is a lot of reading so be prepared for that. Quizzes and tests can be tough so make sure to utilize the TA's and you should be alright.
I think every class at BYU should be taught like this class. He involves the gospel in every aspect of the class, and the subject material is engaging and mind expanding. Best class I've taken
While Professor Gantt really opened my eyes to new perspectives on psychology, the lectures were boring. Prepare for lots of reading and pop quizzes.
While inspiring, this class was 100% a philosophy class and was so reading heavy I felt no need to attend class, since all we did was discuss the reading that we had already taken a proctored pop-quiz on. There was no application except for these pop-quizzes. I felt that all I learned came from the memorization of two 40 page readings each week.
Such a great class! Helped me solve some real problems I had figuring out the relatoinship between secular psychology and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Long evening class (2 1/2 hrs) but so worth it. Take this class!
Best class I have taken in college. Reading heavy but the lectures are really good and Dr Gant really cares about students and is very inspirational.
I have taken several classes from Dr. Gantt and I have loved all of them. His classes are pretty hard (lots of reading), but if you are interested in taking religion seriously in psychology (or any other profession), he helps you articulate coherent arguments for why it can and should be allowed. Changed the way I see the world
Take psych 111 from literally anyone else! So boring, Gantt is not there half the time, so super boring assistant professor teaches. All your friends will be getting higher grades and enjoying there psych 11 class while you hate it! Lectures are extremely boring, and it is all in the book anyway. TAs don't grade evenly either.
I loved this class!! Professor Gant made learning about psych really interesting and spiritual. He criticizes psychology alot and sometimes gets really philosophical but that was what i liked the most. Almost every class had a spiritual element to it too. Not a psych major but would take another class from him 10/10.
Dr. Gantt is a very interesting lecturer, but literally anything he says in class can be in the exam or on the weekly pop quizzes. There are multiple group essays and they are really nitpicky about grading those. Exams and everything are all proctored on learning suite and overall it just felt like he was doing too much for a 100 level class.
Professor Gantt is brilliant, but his class is no easy A. Lots of reading and tough exams. However, the TAs are super helpful, and tools like Unstuckstudy ai can make study prep a breeze. Put in the work and you'll learn a ton.
BEWARE I would not recommend starting your psych journey with Professor Gantt because he made the class way tougher than it needed to be. On average 40-60 pages of reading per lecture and there would be pop quizzes on a few of the readings so I was always on edge. He is also very philosophical and not clinical. Test were also difficult and long.
Take this class!!! Gant is an amazing professor and does such an amazing job helping people figure out how to navigate the assumptions of secular psych and the teachings of the restored gosple. Get ready to do soem deep thinking, but also get ready to have your testimony strengthened and be inspired every class. Sooooo good!!!
Dr. Gantt is such a great professor. If you want to take a class from him to get an easy A, you should pick another professor. There is a lot of reading and many quizzes on such reading. He is quick to relate things to the gospel and his testimony. He is so kind and is ready for questions from students. The TAs were also super helpful.
He teaches very well and ties things into the Gospel frequently and well. He cares about his students and is motivated by helping them eternally. Teaches about truth that can change your perspective. Half of his lectures have a PowerPoint, half are just him talking. Weekly groups quizzes. Potential online pop quiz the morning before each class.
I loved Gantt's lectures. I have ADHD and it's really hard for me to focus in class but Gantt is AMAZING. Every lecture is so engaging. I will admit that the readings are long, and there are a LOT of them but most of them are really interesting and it all ties together. Gantt is such a kind person and he just loves psychology!
If you like random pop quizzes that are only open from 9:30 pm till 9:30 am go ahead and take this class. Dr. Gantt rarely uses slides or any form of presentation during his lectures which made it nearly impossible for me to pay attention. Notes must be taken on paper, no laptops allowed. Big focus on philosophy
Oh my gosh. This class was awful. Take it from ANYONE ELSE. He give pop quizzes that open at midnight and close at 8 am, who does that? The readings are 60-70 pages long and there is a lot of information in them and anything we read or Gantt says can be on a test. The quizzes and tests were HARD and I had to study so hard. Take from anyone else!
Lectures could be long and dry sometimes and there are random pop quizzes plus group quizzes throughout the semester. Tests can be a little long, but there aren't any essays or additional assignments due outside of the quizzes and exams. Pro. Gantt cares about all of his students though
Intellectually, this class is probably the best thing that could ever happen to you. You learn so much about different philosophers and their worldviews, and it will broaden your horizons and your way of seeing the world. For me, this class was very difficult. I was not a fan of Dr. Gantt's attitude towards ideas and philosophies that were flawed.
I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like his class, but for me, this was probably the best class I have and will ever take at BYU. Yes, there's a lot of reading, but I always thought it brought up really interesting ideas and honestly, it really wasn't that bad or that hard.
Super incredible class and lectures, I learned a ton and gained new perspectives. It's just very test-heavy. The only assignments are reading quizzes and tests. Tests are strangely hard and the final has a 50 point essay question. Based on mainly philosophical content, so difficult to study for.
Don't take this class!!! Take it from anyone else. Dr. Gantt is arrogant, conceited, and rude to people who disagree with him, and also made derogatory comments about his wife that made me uncomfortable. No mercy in grading or leniency. The courseload is insane and unnecessary.
