sometimes i wonder if he really went to school to teach music. teaches slow. it was spring break and when i looked at the syllabus, we were still at the pace of week 3.
he was okay. as along as u study and show effort , u will get am A. he gave extra credit. alot of work for a listen approach class..but would take him again.. some other music prof would test u on spelling, give me a break
He moves pretty slow, but he isn't that hard and offers tons of extra credit on tests (only 2 tests), and a few quizes.
BOARING!!!!!
Takes 4 weeks (a month) to correct midterm. Seems like he makes things up just to sound smart. Loves to play the piano constantly, however, is not good at playing the piano at all. Lots of quizzes, but also a lot of extra credit.
His class itself wasn't that hard but it took him 4 weeks to give a midterm back. He was rude and condescending,he can't play the piano and I think he talks just to hear himself speak. Show effort and you'll do well. gives lots of extra credit
i wanted to poke my eye**** out every class - this man is the worst, and incompetant at music to say the least
this man sucks - in my class, he only like the older people cause they kissed up...plays favorites and he is a horrible, horrible teacher
This professor is horrible. He is condescending to his students, shows them little resect, takes 4 weeks to return a midterm. He plays the piano a lot, but he sucks at it. Likes to hear the sound of his own voice.
Total music geek, totally annoying, I coulda played the piano better than him. Just kiss up, pretend to care what he says, and somehow you'll pass (at least thats what I did). Just dont expect to learn anything.
Dear Ed - BSC is not a conservatory
He's not a bad guy, but as a teacher he should probably break things down a little farther and not teach all the intervals at the same time. He means well though.
What an ****!!!! I hated every minute of his class and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone! He can't play the piano to save his life and he made me hate classical music because he sucks! you'll wanna stab yourself to end the misery of this class!
I can't deal with his class! Hes completely involved with HIMSELF to say the least. He isn't helpful, never returns papers and we do NOTHING in the class. i regret taking his class so much. DO NOT take this class!
He's aweful. He is late for every class by at least 5 minutes which I think is extremely rude and shows me that he has little respect for his students. It took him 6 weeks to get a syllabus to us and then he gave our 1st exam with only 6 classes left.
He is a terrible teacher. But his class is very easy. All assignments are straight from the book. And the tests are simple just go to calss(Although it can be tough) and take notes and its an A
SELF ABSORBED SINGS BUT ISN'T THAT GREAT DON'T TAKE VOICE FORM HIM EEEWWW.
whoa...I didn't think he was that bad. It wasn't the best class in the world, but I hate music classes. I still got an A, I think he was nice and helpful, my paper was horrid and I still got an A.
GREAT TEACHER and great person too. I learned alot in his class, and he definately respects all. He is not judgemental and sincerely helps has much as he can. Fun class and well worth taking!
I don't know what you people are talking about. He was almost never late for my class. He was always there for me when I needed help. I think I was failing his class, but with his help I really turned it around and got a decent grade. Thanks, Prof. Milham!
I liked this class. A little bit harder than I thought it would be, but definitely a "you get out of it what you put into it" class. Milham seems demanding that way: you have to put in the work, he doesn't serve it to you on a silver platter. Go
Good class, good teacher.
I learned a lot from Prof Milham, and he gave me lots of extra help when I needed it. He's got a nice voice, too!
TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Definitly not the easiest class i ever took, but if you do the work you get the grade. milham knows alot and gives you everything you need to do good. you just have to put in the work.
He is annoying. I dont like him at all.. Easiest class ever though
not easy and not likeable. if you can avoid him do it! acts like his class is the ONLY class you're taking. verrrry boring!
weird guy one quiz one test one final either an or F you never no lots of extra credit
No Comments
Run while you still can. Biggest Prick ever. Needs to get over himself. Requires outside research for the essays on the test and final- he never mentioned this to our class before the first test- weird- takes the time to add a copy right notice on his syllabus.
The guy is kind of a wierdo, sometimes he's a jerk but if you're the kind of student who doesn't need much help from your teachers he won't kill you. Otherwise avoid him if you can.

boring as hell. sorry.
I hated this class, every day was pure torture; especially when he sang! He is obsessed with everything, he put in the syllabus that he owns all the notes we take and we can only keep them for the semester! He didn't mention to my class until the day of the test that you have to do outside research for the tests. Avoid him like the plague.
My only words of advice are: run while you can. This is the worst class. Ever. He is the most boring person and is obsessed with himself and his thoughts. I dread going to it. Pop quizzes and stuff that is totally irrelevant to life. Such a friggin weirdo... BUT if you like teachers like that, go for it.
This class was A LOT of work for just a 100 level GER. If you don't know a lot about music or listening to it, don't take this class.
Oh This Guy!He spent a third of the time banging the keys on the piano in an attempt to play something recognizable, a third of the time caterwalling some song and telling us how great he is at singing, and the rest of the time boring you to the point of a near catatonic state. On the upside, he rarely took attendence.
Milham's jazz class is great. You can tell he has a love for it- he knows his stuff and he makes the class really interesting. Take good notes and pay attention and you'll do fine. He gives pop quizzes, so come to class (even though he doesn't really take attendance). Interesting guy- take his class.
guys nuts to be honest. lets you out of class LATE, doesnt take attendence though. But he does give you pop quizzes so its in your best bet to go because if your not there you cant make it up. He spends the class time attempting to sing and play the piano, leaving you with a headache in the end. class is measy, just if your not interested dont take
Prof. Milham is a very thought-provoking guy... he makes you want to get out there and learn more about the subject. He is very knowledgeable about music, and his passion for the subject (and the art) is obvious. If you're taking music as a GER, take it with an open mind... the guy knows what he's talking about.

Do not take this class is you are looking for an easy Core requirement. Does not take attendance however you can not pass the course if you do not go to almost all of the classes you can not pass. Expect to hear horrible piano playing and mediocre singing daily. There are only 6 classes left in the semester and we have had 2/6 quizzes and no exams
He's the most ridiculous man I've ever met. he gives pop quizzes like it's his job. he doesn't prepare you for anything. he's mean and locks people out if they're even a minute late. he expects you to know a lot before you even start the class. and he sings- which no one wants to hear. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, PLEASE! I'M WARNING YOU!
The class was boaring, and he thinks he knows everything. You cant get in any of your own thoughts. he likes people who know everything about Broadway musicals, which is not me... he grades easy but he's not worth an hour of my time 3 days a week.
Ok class, nice guy, loves to hear himself talk. Attendance not mandatory but will not get a good grade if you don't go. Gives lots of extra credit. Tells you exactly what will be on the tests/quizzes. I would recommend him if you are willing to put in the work, not just looking for an easy A. Also, be ready to hear bad singing and even worse piano.
He does not take attendance. Be prepared to hear awful piano music. He talks about himself most of the class, and the other part of class is devoted to his singing, or awful music playing. If you dont mind listening to self absorbed lectures this is the class for you. . Take no quizes. AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RECENT MUSIC. Only Mozart/Betohven.
likes to hear himself talk, most lectures relate to history rather than music. sings badly alot and plays bad piano, boring class. bring your laptop & take notes. its easy if you take notes. no papers, easy homework. easy A class with a little work
he's an intimidating guy, to be honest, but he's decent. i didn't like him at first but toward the end i started to. tells you the course is hard but it ended up being pretty easy. you take a lot of notes and he gives 3-4 pop quizzes but if you attend class, you should be fine.
Class is boring. No quizzes are announced, so if you miss class a day of a quiz you get a 0 but other than that no attendance is taken. He rambles on about things most ppl don't understand (unless you're familiar w. music already). Important to take notes. He can be nice&funny. Not the best professor or class but not the worst(A Listening Approach)
He's a good guy but his class is so boring. he loves to hear himself talk and spends the class playing bad piano and singing poorly. i took it as an easy core requirement but it was a lot harder than i expected. unannounced pop quizzes but easy homework.
he's an okay guy, but I didn't really like his class or teaching style. He isn't the best at explaining material and preparing you for quizzes. However his homework assignments are very easy and he does give extra credit.
positives: Knows music/random stuff;may not be clear but is willing to help; Doesn't take attendance, if you like that; funny. negatives: disorganized; teaches at slow pace, meaning the last lecture crammed two lessons; gave little homework or quizzes, but then crammed homework all at once. Final is not make or break, but not easy either.
I didn't particularly enjoy his class, but I guess it's not bad. You can do the homework at your own pace, but it has to be the EXACT way he wanted it. We didn't even take a midterm. Don't bother buying the iMix, you really don't need it. Tons of extra credit available.
If you like music from the medieval to the 1900s you will like this class. It's more of a history class about music. I enjoyed this class and while my classmates think that this teacher is full of himself I DIDNOT find him like that. He is a very proud man and very talented. You'll learn alot.No Midtern &fianl is only 15%!Make sure you participate!
I took his freshman seminar on opera. There were a ton of papers but, he was a pretty easy grader and we spent most classes watching operas. I thought i was going to hate it but, it was actually pretty good. Hes a really great guy and was really interesting. I would deffinatly take him again!
Took him for Voice Class 1 and never again will I take him for anything else. Easily distracted and very disorganized. Was late EVERY SINGLE CLASS and would come in and talk for 10 minutes about his lateness.Didn't require any books but you do have to purchase sheet music online. If you don't already know how to sing you still won't after this class
He is the worst teacher ever!!! He is very rude, and wicked condescending. If you gte him as a teacher, SWITCH OUT!
I can see how this guy gets on people's nerves. He's definitely a combination of the snide professor and the snide artist. All quizzes are unannounced, and he frequently kept class late as he continued his lectures. I felt he knew his stuff though. He surely has his favorites - so become one of his favorites, do a little bit of work, and get an A.
The first couple of classes, this guy comes off as really funny and easy going but as soon as the first paper comes around you better run for your life. Not only is this guy psycho when it comes to formatting, he thinks he knows more than any english professor. He also consistently releases student late which is very aggravating.
Milham is awful. He is self absorbed and does not teach anything related to the class. He obsesses about formatting and and loves to talk about himself. Also he think he knows everything and that he is the smartest person alive. He likes to talk about his students (both past and present) in front of the class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. he sucks.
Do not take his class. he is awful. He is terrible when it comes to grading and correcting stuff, and when he actually does, he rips it apart down to how many spaces are between sentences. i do not recommend him and he is not even worth suffering through class.
He knew the subject well. Would get off topic for most of class. Had a few homework assignments, no book, never gave a quiz, and only gave final exam. Topics moved slow, would talk about things that weren't important and breeze by important info. No one in the class knew what was going to be on the final because of his bad teaching style.
Very opinionated. overly-confident to a point that it turns annoying. Gets off topic often. Comes off very rude. Does not help students. Tells them to ask someone else. Shows no interest in helping students.
Pretty boring class. And the lectures seem to drag. But when he sees your putting your effort, he will step up and help you out. I wouldn't take the class again, but the professor is a pretty cool guy.
I took his freshman seminar on opera and it was pretty easy. All we did was watch opera, with 3 research papers. He does get off topic when talking but he doesn't talk much, at least to my class. Gets annoyed when people talk & has a zero-tolerance for cell phones policy.
He is very self centered and rude. He is late for almost every class then calls students out for being a little behind schedule. Shows little respect to students and faculty. Acts like a gibroni. His class is a joke if you go to it...
This guy just doesn't stop talking about nonsense! I never knew what he was saying and we barely have any grades in. We were supposed to do 3 papers and now we're doing 1 at the very last minute. He's all talk; says we'll watch movies and learn about cool stuff but never did. Always lets you out late too.
I don't get all the bad reviews, he's not that bad. He is kind of a know it all but whatev… All we had to do was ONE paper. it had to be 5-7 pages and mine was 3 1/2 and he said it was ok lol. As long as you talk to him in class you won't have to do any work. All you do is watch opera...
At first I didn't mind him as a person or professor. He was smart and overall nice. Other students in the class complained about him, but I knew they weren't keeping up with the work. However, at the end of the semester, he put up an extra assignment online without anyone knowing until it was too late. As a result we all got very low grades.
He is incredibly picky about how he wants things done and if assignments are not done to his liking, he will tell you, often in a harsh manner. Everything that was on the final exam was taught in the last few days of class, but his final was easy. Overall, it was my least favorite class, and I loved the subject matter! I do not recommend.
Gets distracted easily which gets annoying really quick. Thinks too highly of himself. I thought this class was going to at least briefly cover today's music, but you don't. You only talk about Jazz and blues. Quickly covered The Beatles, etc. Midterm and final are easy if you read.
He gets very distracted watches a lot of opera and expected you to know everything make sure you read and pay attention to what he's in class it's end up on final all the time. If you want a easy seminar his class is best and plus not a lot of writing just make sure you follow his guidelines and do the citations the correct way.
Lectures are long, expects too much, Im always right, youre wrong attitude.
gets easily distracted, wants every little thing done his way, "teaching us how to cut corners", one month before the semester ends and we have not written one paper in a WRITING CLASS.
His attention span is the same as a fruit fly. If he does not like the way you did an assignment he will tell you harshly and send it right back. He speaks harshly when he has to repeat himself and he usually will not repeat himself.
He talks about random stuff. When it came time for our midterm, we had only made it 1 chapter... so he just didn't give a midterm. And then the final was the easiest test ever. Exact same as the study guide. However, if you actually want to learn, this is not the class for you. If you want an easy A and to never have to go to class, take his class.
I will never take him again. Always showed up late to class, and would always hold us past the class time. He has the attention span of a fly. Talks about things that are soooooo irrelevant. Need a music class? DONT TAKE THIS ONE.
The worst professor I had at BSU. He was the main reasons I didn't consider a music major, I know constructive criticism (I performed with a choir at Carnegie Hall). He called me out publicly with the justification that he tried to let me know "diplomatically." If a student is making an error why not pull them aside after class? Lazy and cruel.
This is the worst professor I've ever had at BSU. He constantly holds us pass the class time, gets off topic every class, and comes to class late. I would never take this professor every again.
Awful prof! I took him as an asynchronous class, and as someone who has studied music for YEARS I found this class to be so difficult considering it was just to get a fine arts requirement out of the way. He is so particular about his grading on written assignments, and his tests are nearly impossible if you don't read every word of the textbook.
Please if you are considering his class DON'T. He is cruel to his students, often bullying and making jokes about the mistakes students make. He complains about pretty much everything as well as shames students for not understanding concepts. He isn't afraid to call students out individually. I don't think he knows what constructive criticism is.
No matter the class don't take him. He is a judgy professor and has no patience for any students in class. Its impossible to ask him any questions without him making you feel stupid. He is always late to class and always keeps you five minutes late. He canceled class via email 5 minutes after it started. Worst professor ever. Save yourself.
Don't take any classes he teaches. He is a terrible person and professor. He talks about students in front of his class and makes students feel stupid. He constantly runs class late and makes students late for their next class. His assignments are impossible to take due to his strict rules and long assignment description.
Took him for my second year seminar class because I applied for classes late and this was the last one available. Worst decision in my life. He always goes off track, always goes over time. Is too specific and expects too much for an assignment. If you want to have your sanity intact, please do not take this class.
I created an account to tell students about this stubborn professor. He is so particular about things that genuinely don't matter. His way or the highway. He talks so much about nothing, completely meaningless rants. My GPA suffered greatly and I didn't learn much. In the end, he tried to help but Please don't take him you will suffer as well.
This professor is so full of himself it's unbelievable. He constantly berates his students just to make himself feel better. He goes on a bunch of stupid tangents about himself and other irrelevant nonsense. Genuinely the worst professor I have had.
Professor Milham is clearly knowlegeable and a good lecturer. Class passes quickly despite the content being somewhat boring, so long as you participate. Almost too prepared; assignment instructions are very long and detailed. Strict and clear requirements and expections, but for a reason. Loves to talk and often goes off track/runs past class end.
Worst professor I've had so far at BSU. before the last class of the semester he honked at me then almost hit me with his car as he was running late to class per usual. he is often late to class and runs class late. class is nothing like you would expect it's more a history class than anything. he is rude, unorganized and unclear with instructions.
He's an oddball. Incredibly specific with what he wants. Stray away from that, even a bit, and he will not accept your work. Writes ESSAYS for prompts/directions. You basically have to regurgitate all HIS points to get credit. Thinks too highly of himself. He WILL email you at 3am with class updates, so silence those notifications...don't take him.
dude its summer you need to be way more flexbile to students that work. i would gave you better review.
This has to be the worst class I have ever taken at BSU. I took this class to fufill a requirement and wish I took something else. He is incredibly rude to his students. He also makes very little notes and expects you to write down everything he says. This class is lecture heavy. All the quizzes and exams are online however. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!
SAVE YOURSELF horrible person, even worse at actually doing his job. constantly off topic and will take 40 minutes to explain 2 class related concepts but insists his rambling is relevant. He lectures how your old middle school history textbook takes a full chapter to go into extreme detail on something unimportant to what the chapter is about
Professor Milham has specific teaching methods, but engaging with them can be effective. Textbook is required, but attending lectures is worthwhile as they provide helpful breakdowns. Use tools like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook for efficient study prep.
if you are looking for an easy going professor, take Mr Milham, he is great, he's funny and he cares about making sure a student will pass this class with a good grade
Class was about American Popular music but somehow ended up talking about racism and blackface for majority of the semester. Learned pretty much nothing but was an easy class, easy work and no tests.
