I took this teacher at Canada years ago and when my best friend died, he asked me if I was planning on attending a funeral everytime we had a test. I missed class twice to bury two of my friends. What a great understanding teacher not to mention you can't understand what he says. Jerk.
worst teacher I HAVE EVER HAD. everyone in our class has either a C or LOWER. he is hard to understand, cannot read his writing, and when you ask for help, he just repeats some ambiguous answer 5 times and never gets to the point. VERY strict grader. do not take him if your life depended on it!!!!!!
His grading is unfair! If 2 students did a same mistake in the same question, the points which deducted from both students is not the same.
The WORST professor EVER!! not helpful at all, unclear, boring and he don't respect students. he's harsh and mean. it's better to read the text yourself than listening to him!! NEVER NEVER take his class!
Worst teacher i have EVER had. He never looks at you when he talks, gets upset when you don't know the answer to a question (but doesn't explain the correct solution), and is almost completely unapproachable (last time I tried he raised his voice angrily at me b/c i made a mistake).Horrible teacher
Absolutely a useless teacher. I believe he was hired in an effort to diversify the selection of teachers. While it is understandable that he is out of touch with the youth, he coats everything with a thick accent and uses bad examples.
If there was a ZERO for Clarity i would give him that. He talks with a thick accent, but that's not the problem..the problem is that he always gets confused over what he is talking about. When students have questions...he anwers them with more questions. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER HE IS THE WORST!!!!
Worst math teacher I ever had. He doesnt know how to teach (most think it's better to study by themselves) and it's hard to understand his accent. What makes it worse is he's a very harsh grader. His exams are impossible to finish within the given time limit. Stay away at all costs!
In the beginning of the fall quarter, there r over40 students, til now, there are 16 students only~u can know how bad he is~Never take this class, or else, u need to study yrself~
Not the worst ever, but pretty close. His accent isn't a problem - his lectures and grading is. I had to go back for Finite after taking Statistics and Quantitative Business Analysis, and I'm actually doing worse in this class. This class isn't hell on earth, just be prepared to put up with a lot.

Horrible horrible teacher!!! I would reccomend taking anyone other than him. I made the mistake of registering for his class because it was the only one with space available, but wanted to shoot myself after the first class. Save yourself! He has no love for teaching and is very hard to understand.

Man, these other testimonials speak for themselves. Though he gave us open book tests, they were still hard (probably cuz i never showed up to class). He makes things more complicated then they really are, and is a rude jackass. That's probably why his sections are always opened.
At the beginning it was hard to follow him but once you get used to him it is becoming much easier. If you do all the homework and come to all classes there is no reason not to get an A in his class. His class is definitely challenging!

he seems to be very strict and cool but he is very kind behind and try to pull up ur grade. His test is hard if u dun make urself clear to the topic, but if u pay full attention and prepare the lesson,u can make it.Work hard is the key to get an A in this class. It's not impossible.
well i guess he sounded mean at the beginning.. but as the quarter went by, he actually became so much nicer. he let an open book test (which made his test so much easier) and his final exam questions, 85% of it, came from his previous quizzes and tests.. so he is okay

Okay, he's a nice enough guy, but not a very good teacher. His quizzes and tests often have little to do with the lectures or the book. He does NOT give many examples, just theory. I was an A+ student in 112, and nearly failed his 114 course.
I agree. I made the mistake of taking this teacher about a year ago and withdrew bc he is so bad. I am now finishing up on calc1D, and have a much better understanding and have gotten better grades with much more capable teachers. Dont take this guy, gets mad if you ask questions and has a THICK acc
He doesn't ask students if they understand what he's talking about in class. He goes out of his way to make the lessons more difficult than needed, he skips & jumps thru lessons, doesn't stay focused,lectures without stopping for 2 hours, he doesnt'answer questions directly & nobody understands him.
Don't take this teacher! He is not helpful and lectures non-stop without asking class if we understand him. Tests and quizzes have nothing to do with the book. Bad lecturer, doesn't have an interest in the students learning. He makes the subject very difficult to understand, he skips and jumps.

Man....I'm taking his class for winter quarter right now, hoping to have a better understanding of business math, turns out he really suck. OMG AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS he's by far the worst teacher i ever ran in to in my whole life, and this is counting the one in grade school that made me stand outside her office for over 6 hours with no bathroom or water... the only reason i stayed was for a cute girl in class... haha...

By far one of the hardest instructors on campus. Not only is he bad at teaching, but you also cannot understand one damn word he says! I cant believe De Anza would even keep him around!

Only take this professor's classes if you are responsible student. He puts the responsibility for your grade on your shoulders. He is a very smart guy, and is willing to give help if aked. Do not be intimidated by him, hes cool, and he's not that hard to understand. BEST 4 SELF DISCIPLINED STUDENTS!

His exams are ridiculously hard, you won't learn anything in his class and he won't help you if you go to his office hours.
The worse math teacher in De Anza. Bad accent AND monotonous. Uses awkward notation that isn't found in the textbook. Gives problems on the exam that he never covered and is absent from the text. Unfair and nit-picky grading. Unmotivated. Doesn't want to be there. Comes to class 30min late, daily. Avoid at all costs.
the best helpfull teacher in deanza. if student read what he tought in class, the test is so easy to get 100 out 100. he gives more question as bonus to help out students on thier grades. in his class, if you attend every day, take notes, participate; he will make sure that u wont get stress and get A+.

Doesnt tech out of textbook AT ALL. Random things on quizzes and tests that you have never seen before. Kinda awkward to ask questions, he laughs at you if he thinks your question is "stupid". would not take this teacher again.

This teacher is very talented. He is very helpful. Gives a lot of bonus questions so that students improve their grades. Very helpful during office hours too. He actually makes u work hard so that u understand the concept well. Excellent teacher.
Usually, students who are in college for the party, will not like an instructor like Mr. Njinimbam. he expects students to actually EARN their grade by doing more than show up and blink :) I wish I could bring him with me to SFSU!
Great teacher, helpful, good sense of humor. His accent is light. True, there are some questions on the test that aren't from the book.. THEY'RE FROM HIS LECTURES. Most of the complaints are from people who either ditched, or did no homework, or both. He doesn't care about attendance or homework so it's easy to mess up but that is not his fault.
Mr. Njinimbam is a great teacher. Attennding his lectures regularly and taking notes on what he says and assigns, can lead to an easy A. His tests and quizzes are tricky. So see him during office hours and get the concept clear. He is very helpful and patient teacher. An extremely talented person.

I started this class last quarter and I HAD to drop it because his accent was sooo heavy that it was difficult for me to understand. There are too many people in his class room that you don't get the personal help most need. Be sure you want him before you add.
Hating math, I saved it for last, but I needed it to transfer. Little did I know that there are teachers that are very hard to understand. I have a hard time with math already. I don't need to be distracted trying to understand his pronounciation. He also expects us to know everything we learned beforehand. I dropped it with a W, so did my 2 buds.

There was a mutual understanding in his class. He had a hard time understanding our questions, we had a hard time understanding his answers.
Mr.N is a good teacher for good students. If you like/ have taken math before and have a "feel" for it then you'll benefit from his class. If you hate math with a passion and are taking this class because you have to then take someone else. Overall he is a nice guy, sometimes grading is harsh but if u approach him, likely that your grade will rise.

This is the worse teacher ever. You are ten to one NOT going to listen to me, just like I didn't listen to the others, but here it is: DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. He is nothing less than horrible. He mumbles, roles his eyes, refuses to make eye contact, and laughs if you can't answer all his tricky questions. Just have a look at the other ratings...
One word:appaling.If I didn't need this class to transfer I would have dropped it long ago.He is constantly late, his tests have little to do with lecture, he gives poor examples, and he ploughs through the material with little thought to the student's understanding or learning ability. If you aren't good at math already, Do not take this class.
He doesn't teach. At all. He copies things from the book onto the board, and expects you to take notes on it, and somehow understand the material, if you ask him how to do a question, he'll consult the answer manual. Bottom line - Do not take him.
Not a great teacher, exactly, but if you like math and don't mind teaching yourself the material, he's not bad either. If you're weak in math, definitely not recommended, because he won't really help you get better at it; if you're good at math, he's pretty decent, and surprisingly easy.

Nice guy, but did not want to teach enable math in spring 2006, staff made him, we were his first victims,we all stressed out but got A's, other math teachers said his tests were way too long for time given to finish-it was like he wanted to teach us to drive one day & the next day he put us into a Nascar and wanted us to win the Indy 500!
Absolutely horrible teacher. He is rude, always comes to class late, takes a really long time to grade papers, and makes you feel like crap when you talk to him during office hours about your exam. His grading is exceedingly difficult. I've never had such an unprofessional teacher in college. TRY TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

He spent most of our class time sighing and rolling his eyes at the class waiting for class participation instead of just teaching the material. Grades inconsistantly. Did a problem wrong (doesnt understand his own material) and marked off almost the entire class for it, then argued for two hours about how he was right. Also thinks he is hilarious.
Hard to understand, but helpful if you go to office hours. It is undoubtedly a hard class but 70% of the final was questions you already had seen on previous exams and quizzes so it is possible to get an A. Make sure to do all the homework so you can do well on the tests.

Must be able to independent study, lectures were rather useless. He is an incredibly hard grader, he docks TONS of points if you don't show your work perfectly, the way he wants you to. Most of us ended up just making sure we got C's and not lower. Quiz questions get repeated on tests, and quiz+test questions are repeated on the final. Study them!
Terrible lecturer, comes off as being somewhat rude in class (he's trying to be funny, but it's usually hard to tell). You will have to teach yourself most of the material. That said, if you do the homework and make sure you understand the take-home group quizzes, you should be well prepared for the tests, and he gives *LOTS* of extra credit.
If u're interested in math, take his class bcoz he clasifies the concepts very well and the quizzes given are worth working on. If u just want a good grade, sorry, his tests're relatively difficult, and tedious. I think none of his students can finish them. Before taking his class, think about ur goal: learn math or get a good grade.
Although homework from the book is easy to follow... this teacher isn't. I can deal with his accent and his laughing at students in class, but his tediousness on tests is to much for me. Reconsider!

You can tell that he knows his stuff. However he has no connection to the students in his class. He'll ask a question and then wait until someone finally says something. As if there is a standoff between the students and the teacher to see who can remain silent the longest. Seems like an eternity. Tests and quizes are challenging but fair.

He is very intelligent. He goes into detail in problem solving but does not explain the concept behind the problems. Very difficult to follow. You can get used to his heavy accent after a week or so but not his attitude. Always seems frustrated. Last class he was very distant, bitter, with condescending attitude. As a teacher C- or D+.

Great teacher! He is very friendly and understanding and always ready to help. He is great in explaining...I would take him again...you learn a lot and if you do the quizzes and homework it should be an easy A.
60% plus is considered an C but tests are pretty hard. Some take home group quizzes, 3 midterms ,and 1 final. The material on the tests are much harder then what is seen in the book. The classroom teaching is very unclear.

if u hate math then do not take this professor because his tests and quizzes are very hard and challenging and the material does not whatsoever relate to the problems you do for homework. at the beginning of the quarter the class was very full but by the end there were only 9 or 10 people left in his class
i took him last quarter, A. But difficult to hear his accent. He had six quiz, five of them are group quiz. and u can ask him for extra credits, i earn about 20points
Its not the accent (c'mon guys, its pretty easy to hear through that) its his way of overly complicating SIMPLE things I already knew in such a way that my brain is erased of knowledge. No hw makes getting that 60% C pretty difficult, "swim or drown" attitude is NOT how to teach students. But what do you expect from a math teacher?
He was so frustrating, lazy, and he seemed inattentive like he didn't want to be there. The accent didn't help either. Difficult to understand him. If you like doing work on your own and coming to your own conclusions, he might be ok for you. But, if you need a little more help wit math, JUST DON'T!

if you do like challenges, take him. although he got accent, i think i can still understand him. take notes and do the take home quizzes, if you cant do the quiz, simply go to his office. he really2 helpful outside the class..i like his class bcoz more than half students drop so its easier for me to concentrate and recognized by the teacher.

This guy was by far the worse professor I've ever had. He not only didn't show up for a week, without telling the class. When he came back he expected us to know all the material for the next exam. About 90% of the class is failing on all the quizzes and test and he still doesn't teach the material to a standard that all the students can understand
do the work and study for tests and it shouldnt be that hard. to the guy that posted before me, 90% of the class isnt failing, you were probably just slacking and didnt study for anything. he gives out TONS of extra credit.
I wouldn't recommend taking him. However if you are stuck with him here are some tips. Wait till the middle/end of class to ask questions. He gets really excited when he gets into the math and he's easier to approach them. I also wouldn't antagonize him even if he's frustrating. It's your own fault of what happens when you back talk the teachr
His accent's not the problem, rather the way he explains things is unclear at times. He's very picky and ruthless on exams, and will dock you off a LOT even if you get the right answer AND show work, because that's how picky he is. There's a reason why he has low ratings, and it's 'cause his expectations are set too high and he's unclear.

I only took him for the summer class but even then he seemed to be going to fast and the tests were way too hard.
I'm lousy at math and I passed this class with an A. In the summer over 6 weeks. I liked this teacher - he has a real dry sense of humor which a lot of people may not get and he makes you work but he is also willing to help if you just ask for it and he gives a ton of extra credit.
hard to understand what answer he wants to hear from you. roll his eyes around so that all you can see is the white part of the eyes (Freaky_) cares so much about how you solve the question! strict,mean etc. BUT! i have to say that he knows what maths is. no doubt about that.
He is pretty unclear about discussing things. He over complicates things. He is a decent teacher. Sometimes you'll understand the lesson and sometimes you won't. That is why you should ALWAYS look back at the examples in your book. I think I may have found some mistakes in the book so I'll be asking for his help. I'll let you know how it goes.

I got an A in the class but he is a terrible teacher. He cares more about how you get the answer right then if you get the answer right. His humor is terrible and he always gets mad when people in the class dont laugh at his jokes. DONT TAKE just take Sekhon or something for an easy A
It depends on you. If you're a math genius, his class will be easy because he doesn't collect HW and doesn't take attendance. If you aren't, then he will be terrible. Can't understand him. He's actually a nice guy, but you have to approach him after class to see that side of him. He makes taking math tough. It depends on u in the end. Caveat Emptor
his bark is worse than his bite! very helpful outside of class, all material in lectures are on tests, group quizzes, & extra credit. his class was straight-forward and required hard work, but he's more than willing to help you with any questions. hold onto all old quizzes/tests! don't be put off by his dry sense of humor, he's a nice guy
The worst math teacher I've ever had. He would talk out the problem instead of writing it out on the board. He then refused to work out a question for me on the board when I didn't understand how he got to the answer. I was asking in context too. I dropped the class instead of dealing with him.
Study from quizzes, ask for help during office hours, keep quizzes and test for reference for final and tests. He's a good guy, really nice during office hours. Dry British humor. He has bit of a British accent, so most of the time, I'm like the translator for the class.
One more thing, pay attention to how he writes up the problem, he takes off a ton if you don't solve the problem the way he wants and there's extra credit!!!
His grading style is hard 2 understand, it took me till the 3rd exam to figure it out. Though his exams are based on the quizzies, but he never gives the right answer, ask him wats on the test he'll tell u. his accent is really difficult 2 understand. & like the last person said copy how he writes the answer on the board is how he wants the answer
He's horrible. Very critical when students ask questions and is prone to mood swings. He dismissed the class when no one answered because they were all afraid to speak up.

actually, he's not that hard. but he tends to want us to make simple things complicated. for example, he will pick points off if we don't "make sentences". so why do u think a sentence is necessary? don't you think that just an answer is enough?
I took his class a few years ago and I've never forgotten him.. I hate to jump on the band-wagon but he is a very TOUGH teacher. He's hard to understand and he'll mark points off for trivial things like forgetting commas or periods. Slightly brutal.. But he's pretty nice and if you're good at math, it might be a breeze.
He gives us stupid papers as a test. I can not find same kind of problems in the text book. He makes problems and things complicated. Students are afraid to ask questions to him because he dislike listening dumb questions that make him upset. many students can't understand what he wants to teach us. his teaching is unclear, and he is mean.

I had him for summer session and ended up dropping his class! He shows no interest in what he is teaching. His teaching style is summarizing the book and doing a few homework problems. We had our 1st quiz and he taught us new material prior to the quiz and tested us on it. His lectures are boring. If you value your gpa, AVOID TEACHER at all costs!!
Summarizing Prof:- No interest in his teaching, boring lectures, no real homework assigned, has an accent which can affect learning, teaches by summarizing the book in a more complex way, extremely hard grader, quizs & tests contain new material taught 5mins before that quiz or test, quiz & test questions contain that aren't related to the chapter.
I admit that he is NOT easy! But hey! when u get to 1C, without simple concepts on "domain, range, normal, etc." just dont do any good on u! I got an F in the last mid-term, but i reviewed my paper with him, got A at last! He really wants us to learn, not to get an easy A! Just show enthusiasm in his class and u WILL DO GOOD!!

i recommend this teacher for someone who thinks maths is very important to his or hercareer.if u just want to get a good grade or pass math because its a prerequisite only for some other subject dont take him .i am in his 8:30 class so i used to say to my husband i dont want to loose the pearls that come out of his mouth i want to grab all of them
he's an alright guy. he helps when you ask him and his lectures aren't too hard to understand. my issue is with the grading. if you don't show the right work and show ALL of it, you can lose points for the entire problem on an exam. for example on a 8 pt question i showed a lot of work but i got 0 out of 8... good guy, bad grading.
His name is an enigma to me, but he's a good teacher. His philosophy is that practice makes improvement, so he doesn't expect anyone to be perfect. He does expect you to do your homework though. If you put forth an honest effort, you will do well in his class.
One of the worst professors I have had yet. He has an extremely thick accent. Although the quizes are take home group quizes, they are extremely hard and one know it all ends up doing the entire thing. Tests are rediculously hard. If you arent great at math, id recommend a different teacher.

From what I can see he is a nice guy but when it comes to the lessons he isn't very clear as to what we are learning and the there is no intro to it he just starts talking about math. I end up getting very confused as to what chapter or section were on it seems like there is no structure to it.
His tests and quizes are horrible I just had a quiz today and I was very mad that what he told us to study wasn't even on the test it was problems from the last chapter and word problems. I studyed very hard for this and I I know I didn't pass. So when taking his quizes be prepared for anything I guess. I'm just very disappointed.

Extremely helpful professor. Although his tests are not very easy, he really helps you on your weak points so you can get an A in his class. The final was not too hard and I can say he was very clear when it cam to teaching. Awesome professor
His way of teaching is extremely confusing. He doesn't like to repeat himself and rolls his eyes if you don't understand something. He makes you relearn concepts in a way thats confusing to you but easy for him. And he doesn't expand on anything. He just plows through the work without stopping or asking for questions. I took this teacher many moons ago when math 101 was, well, math 101. Very knowledgeable about subject material, but very passionate about his teaching style. I'm sure the hardcore students who stayed behind passed. Most became quickly fed up when certain areas of discussion were not clearly explained. Asking questions will get you mean mugged!!
This guy is hardcore! His exams do not look like the book problems, but if you really know the concepts you can figure them out! He also gives you a choice between problems to solve! Great prof if you're a math major or really like math. If you just want to get "it over with" go elsewhere, but you won't learn as much so the joke's on you!

The questions on the midterms and quizzes tend to become quite conceptual, however I feel that he prepared me well for the calculus series. He is very approachable, and will not hesitate to help you if you have any questions regarding the material.
Atrociously incompetent and terrible teacher. He doesn't even READ what we write on our tests/quizzes and just takes off all the points just for the hell of it. Even though I'm the few who are getting A's, I HIGHLY suggest not taking him. Does not care for students at all. If you aren't a top student at a community college, then don't take him.

His language is very particular so his explanations are hard to comprehend. If you do not already have a really strong background of the course material and math in general, I suggest not taking his class. Also, his problems are very conceptual so just memorizing formulas won't cut it.

It takes a while to get used to his teaching style. When he tests he tests on stuff that was just covered. Its always best in his class to do the reading and come fully prepared. If not you may stuggle with the lessons. He explains things clearly. However, If you don't ask questions he won't go back over the material. He has office ours he can help
PAY ATTENTION how HE does example problems, that's EXACTLY what he wants and expects. The infinite series portion of the course becomes very difficult due to his knit picking. Exam are JUST like the take home quizzes, doesn't mean you'll pass. I like what he wants out of students, but it's better suited in a semester system, not quarter. Too picky
All negative comments describe him perfectly. Quizzes are impossible to do, problems are NOTHING like homework problems. He ASSUMES that students know and remember EVERYTHING learned in previous math classes. Skips steps in showing how to solve problems. Anyone who positively rates him is one of those math geniuses. AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COST!!
He does not really tricky or picky just like other people said. If you wanna an B or above B then you must follow his steps to solve the problems. If you have any problem to understand, then you can ask him in class or office hours or go to Math & Science Tutoring Center. Even you try alot but still not get a good score,it is your problem,not him.
Make sure you are a math genius before registering for his class! To be serious, if you can do well in all his take home quizzes, which you can ask him all the answers anyway, then you surely can get an A! Cause the exams are 95% exactly the same! Even the extra credits! However, he seriously doesn't care about your success so don't feel bad.

Very knowledgable teacher, but his teaching skills needs some getting used to. Take home quizzes give you the chance to be prepared for tests. He will help you if you go to him, even though it may seem like he's unhelpful. If you show him enough interest in the subject, he'll be on his better side. Other than that, be very prepared for this class.

Not recommended. Quizzes and Tests are challenging only because he doesn't prepare you for them adequately. In lecture he goes a million miles per hour and skips steps. Study and read ahead if you want to do well. During summer class moves way too fast. He lectures on the overhead the whole time, can be very boring. Overall, bad.
NOT RECOMMENDED. I took Calculus AB in high school, and still had difficulty following his teachings, the rest of my class was completely lost aside from a few students who had already taken more comprehensive math classes. I do not recommend him because of his lack of interest, clarity and difficulty.
He's a smart person, but a very bad teacher. I personally doesn't understand much about 1C because of his way of teaching. Quiz are take home, and exam is exactly from the quiz. Easy A if you got help for every quiz that he gave. But you won't learn much from him.

He gives lots of extra credit on quizzes/test. Most of the test/quiz/midterm's questions came from the notes and the final is super easy if u review all of your quizzes. No need to attend to class because he doesnt take attendance and also no homework at all ! Great professor and he's super helpful if u show interest and ask questions.

The ever worst one. Didn't teach much but test a lot. Extremely hard in the test, everything was exactly the material in Math 1C, not helpful at all!!!!! It is even hard to get a passing grade. Students have to follow the same way as he did.

I did not like this professor. He is hard, expects you to know what hes talkin about already, and doesnt really teach that well. He gets mad in class if you do not know certain things and overall he is just frustrating to work with. That being said, he knows wat he is talking about, he just doesnt teach very well.

took him for all 3 precalculus class(41,42,43). The only reason why i took his class for 3 straight quarters is because of the timing that suit my schedule. Since the first day i stepped in his class in 41, till the day i stepped out in 43, the class has been the worst class i have ever attend and he made me hate math that i use to love a lot!

Worst professor at De Anza... Walked in first day of school and he expects you to know everything in the book word for word. He can care less about your schedule when it comes to the mandatory tutor 1hr tutor sessions a week so work makes no sense for him. Don't take him unless you love inconsiderate teachers
His lectures are clear and fairly organized, but his tests and quizzes are wack. He expects you to annotate your work or something and write sentences explaining your answers, but you only find out after receiving a bad grade on a test for doing what you thought was correct math.
Terrible teacher. His lectures are very repetitive and somewhat unclear. He's hostile and treats the students like idiots. The worst part is his grading system; if you don't annotate and explain every part of you work, you'll get so many points taken off. The subject itself isn't too hard, but the grading is. Don't take this guy.
Literally, without any exaggeration, the worst teacher I have ever taken in my entire life. He started an exam late (due to his own issues) and it prolonged into my next class which I also had a midterm in (for physics) so I asked for some sort of like accommodation or anything (since I got screwed HARD) and he told me to leave his office.

He has an accent and it's hard to understand. He asked a lot of question in class and spend most time waiting for response. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you come you can't leave. If you have to take him, be prepare to learn on your own. Final includes quizzes and tests you taken. The tricky part is involved T/F questions.
Know your math before taking this course. You will be marked down for whatever he can find and there is no arguing points. I would recommend only to students looking to take this as a prerequisite and not for the grade as it is harsh. Also he doesn't let anything go as for cheat sheets or anything. Expect to memorize equations.

Very easy, though many people complain that he's hard to understand. Self-study a little bit and you'll be fine. Tests based on problems in the book and he solves most of them before the tests and quizzes, especially usually there's extra credit. Group quizzes easy and long time to do. Spot a smart one and be in hisher group.
Get ready to work your butt off. If you want an easy A I suggest finding another professor. His quizzes are not that easy and at the same time his midterms are even harder. Edwin is lazy and very difficult to understand through his accent. He will offer help if you ask for it but his lectures are very hard to follow. Also pretty weird that he makes you do group math work.
Does not assign daily homework; expects you to study and do practice problems before lecture. Concepts on testsquizzes fairly straightforward, but mechanicsoperations are confusing. Lectures are boring and hard to understand due to horrible handwriting and thick accent. If you understand math, there isn't much of a point to show up to class.
A question worth 12 pts, if you miss one part of the solution you won't get credit for it and you're gonna fail that quiz, something for tests. Can't understand anything he his saying. He doesn't care whether you know anything or not, his questions are not from the book or homework, he makes up his own questions. You have to read a lot for that C.
If youve already learned some precalculus or can do self-studying, this class is for you. He doesnt check homework or attendance. Lots of extra credit on tests. Just answer the questions he ask to make the class go faster. If youve never learn precalculus , dont take him & skip the quarter if you have no choice. DO EXERCISES FROM THE TEXTBOOK.
Bottom line, if you can avoid this professor, do it. You basically need to teach yourself andor learn from the book. Learn from the take home quizzes because they are exactly what is on the test.

He seems bad because he is depressing, sometimes rude, unenthusiastic and he demoralizes you. But his teaching skill is actually not that bad. He doesn't assign HW , which causes students to be lazy and fail his tests that are similar to group quizzes. PRACTICE TEXTBOOK PROBLEMS! That is what separates the passing and failing students.
Professor Edwin is really very nice, I showed up the first week and ask about a recommendation for tutor program, he just gave me the recommendation, and when you ask something, he is usually very patient and helpful. Quizzes are very simple, all from textbook or his lecture, and he gives extra credit. I can't understand why complain?
I do not appreciate the amount of disrespect he displays in class. My calculator died in during a quiz, so I did every problem with almost all of them correct except the fact that I couldn't evaluate it on my calculator for an exact answer. I told him after class that my calculator died and he just chuckled at me. I turned it, and got an F...
Like most teachers you will need to adapt to his grading style in order to do okay. The bonus problems on tests are a must because they will balance out all the points you will lose from his picky grading. He also offered general extra credit which helps. The problems that he tells you to do in the book are a must, even though he doesn't collect it
1. Dont take calculus twice a week. M-Th or M-F ONLY 2. Pay attention to word problems in the textbook and make sure you learn the concepts. Not just how to differentiate or whatever, how and when to APPLY differentiation and other concepts to prob. 3. Hes a picky grader!! Remember the proper notation. 4. Hes quizzes are exactly like his tests
When I took his class it never helped me at all. He also upset me by making concepts really hard. When he asks a question NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE understands what is going on because nothing is explained clear
I duuno another classes but his Precal1 (Math42) class is actually not that bad. Every stuff is based on a textbook and some notes.
His accent gets a little tough to get used to, but after that, as long as you pay attention in class and write down notes you will be relatively prepared for the test. The tests are straight from the quizzes and the quizzes are take home and GROUP. Get a good group who is willing to work through the quizzes. If you do not you will fail. Easy B or C
I'm okay if he never walks and talks out loud because of illness, but I have to admit he would not effect your knowledge. He never gives homework and teaches us obviously. You're gonna fall when the test comes.
If this is your first Calculus class, steer clear. If you have a background in Calculus and you're good at math, he's a good professor to take not because he teaches well but he gives tough problem sets. Taking his class will make you well prepared for higher level math but beware beginners, he will not hand-hold you.
If you're going to take his class, know the material before hand. Do not walk in cold or else his class is going to be really hard. One positive, he gives tough group quizes but he'll give similar questions on his homework so work with a good group and it could save your grade. Additionally, don't expect him to tell you everything. Learn on yur own

For me, Mr. Edwin is a good professor. He is willing to answer questions when you come to his office. Quizzes are moderate. He gave a test on what you've been taught in class. You should review all old quizzes to get an A for final. Some questions are in example of lecture. Easy class.
Mr. Njinimbam is a very reasonable and respected teacher. It's very important that you attend and listen to his lectures or you will not pass the class. He's very approachable if you're hardworking and put in the effort, otherwise you're doomed to fail. Put in the effort, and if you find that you're still struggling he'll help you pass.
The best! He is super helpful! And he's a nice person. He might teach you a little bit advanced math, but it's ok, in the end, he will give a lot of extra credit, and you will get an A if you are not stupid.

This is one of the worst math classes I've ever taken. I'm basically teaching myself. All he does is write the problem and expect you to know everything. He doesn't teach whatsoever. Whenever you ask a question he makes you feel like you don't have a brain.
He doesn't teach well and his tests and quizzes are much harder than the homework he assigns (he does not collect the homework though). If you are good at math, take this class. If you want to learn, do not take this class! He expects students to know everything already. One good thing about him is that he is super chill and gives extra credit.
We don't have pop quest! And he is nice! he just don't like the student who don't read books and remember his teaching. if u listen carefully and have questions he will nicely to listen to you, but you MUST speak louder that he could hear. he gave us extra credit for go to tutoring, so it is useful. But, i lost the paper so i didn't get the point.

He is very nice and willing to help you and very available but I feel like he isnt good teacher if you are LEARNING the course. You basically have to teach yourself most of the times so it felt like review. Although he give you lot of extra credit to boost your score it felt very stressful and I didnt felt like I learned math.
He's not going to walk you through every step or go over material you're expected to remember from previous classes. He expects that you'll do your due diligence and get tutoring if you're struggling. That said, he gives the most EC out of all the math profs and his tests are identical to his quizes. Study those exclusively.
He is a really smart guy and he teaches ok, but you have to pay attention. A lot of students tune out so Anyway, there's group quiz which you can take home! The tests are quite hard but I feel its doable since the quiz helps you a lot. He gives some extra credit too. Honestly though, he couldn't care less if you come to class or not.

I can't believe I am forced to drop this class. Never in my entire life have I done so poorly in a math class. Exams and quizzes are unrecognizable to tutors in the math center, questions are just ridiculous and unnecessarily difficult. Please look at other instructors who teach math, don't make our same mistakes.
If you get confused about anything, use his office hour and ask him questions. He wants certain things to be written in his style. Study his lecture notes and quizzes thoroughly. Sometimes tests come straight outta quizzes. But not all the time. I started my math course at Math42 and now I'm taking Calculus1D and his class was the hardest for me.
He is the reason why MATH professors should not be giving out homework on webassign. I never knew I was writing my algorithms steps wrong until I took this class. He's very picky on how you write out the math problem, such as writing the implicit form derivative of dx/dy and writing the derivative of logs ETC.
Edwin is a good instructor, but sometimes I'm pretty confused with simple concepts within the class, when I feel I shouldn't be. His class is great if you're proficient in math or if you've taken Calc in high school. He seems very busy with students in the office hours, but when I go, he helps when reviewing previous tests. Lots of EC opportunities
Absolutely ridiculous. Spent 2 days covering the final chapter of the quarter (Vectors) Our final is tomorrow and I will most likely fail it. Take another professor, if theres no other option, don't take that this quarter. I'm so upset. I've got Bs in all my previous math classes.
Stay away from his class if you are not good at math. All his quizzes, exams and final are very difficult. If you are good at math but want to protect your GPA, stay away also. It is really hard (almost impossible) to get an A in his class. His lecture is not clear at all, you will need to self-study a lot. His lecture and his tests are not related
Njinimbam is hard to understand at times, but not hard. He expects you to know it or have at least an understanding of it. Gives out tons of Extra Credit, all but 1 quiz was take home and group work, 50 free points just for going to Tutoring Center once a wk, tests come right from the quizzes, just pulls the exact questions and puts them on tests.
If you study hard, you will get a good score. If you do not know, you can go to the professor and get help.
It's obvious he's very very smart. Fun and interactive class. Tough material but that's math in general. A lot of group take home quizzes which will boost your grade and a lot of extra credit which will boost it even higher. Very clear on what he expects on exams and very responsive if you ask for help
Njinimbam is a wonderful professor. He pushes for class participation and will refuse to let the lecture go on unless someone chimes in with a proposed answer to his question. Very engaging, but also very textbook heavy. There is no homework assigned, however, it is important to do it to keep up with the quizzes!
I didn't see any 2A review so here for u guys. If u doing 2A it means that u r above the average already, don't be scared cuz of these reviews. It was my 2nd class with him, hella chill. Took this with friends, by the end there were only 10 people left so basically it's group tutoring. Dude's a funny and helpful guy. Talk more to him, it worths it.
The only thing that was graded was the tests and quizzes. The entire class would be lecture without checking for understanding along the way. There were no breaks at all. A 2 hour class felt more like 5 hours. His handwriting makes the letter U look like the letters R and N at the same time.
some college professors challenge you in a way you cannot imagine but gives you an amazing insight that you cannot imagine as well. Edwin is very smart and has amazing insight in math. he is not easy professor but you learn a lot if you study hard and ask him questions. take him and be prepare to study
I wonder how he sleeps at night. Hes been teaching for so many years but is still trash at it. Horrible lectures, difficult texts and quizzes. Wasting my time and money.
I'm not kidding when I say Edwin's class is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. He gives you quizzes when the class doesn't participate (so participate!), spends the entire two hours speeding through his lecture, and grades the tests very hard. I wouldn't say it's impossible getting an A, but even a C is looking like a reach.

If you want to waste your money take Edwin. I have taken him for precalculus and it was the biggest mistake of the quarter. Tests and quizzes are nothing like examples. His accent is HEAVY. All he does in class is deriving formulas and some examples with little to none prep for your exam. STAY AWAY

I'll be blunt, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He has no respect for his students. He's hard to understand, and if you ask him to speak up, he'll yell at you straight up. There's no homework. He doesn't give partial credit, and is particular about how you do a problem. I only recommend this class if you have A LOT of patients, and can self study.
I'll be short, do not take his class. He has no respect for hi students nor cares what he's doing. Will waste 15 min of class waiting for answer instead of moving forward. There was 6 people left in class by the time 3 exam came. Do the math. My advice wait until next quarter or take it somewhere else
so far so good. TONS of EXTRA CREDIT.. EASY A even though differential equation is not that easy.. just do your work. study by yourself. Then definitely you will end this class with the grade over 95%
Like 70% of the class dropped, he's very difficult to understand and his lectures are very poorly constructed, and he rushes thru them. Tests and quizzes arent too tough, group quizzes are easy extra credit. I just watched Prof. Leanord on YouTube for the entire class' material, If you are good at self study you'll be fine.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. He should get his credentials taken away if he even has any to begin with. Has a heavy accent so hard to understand, avoids answering questions, makes mistakes all the time in his work, has no respect for his students and doesn't care to listen to anyone. Do NOT take him.
Not thaaaat bad. the good thing is he goes completely by the textbook, so you dont have to show up to class if you just study the material. Gives tons of extra credit. Tough grader on tests sometimes, but if you argue back points you could get back a huge percentage. Study his handouts because all the questions are recycled on later tests.
His tests definitely include extra credit problems. You can earn many points there. Sometimes I didn't understand the material, so I asked him questions after the class. When I asked, he helped me a lot! Also, his tests include multiple questions. Those are big worth of getting points. During the lectures, he asks us to answer the questions.

this guy has to be the worst professor in the history of professors. they really do give teaching licenses out to anybody and hire anyone because this man cannot teach if his life depended on it. he always brings up how he got a stroke last quarter, so why doesn't he do students a favor and just retire?
I have never hated a math class more in my life until I sat down in Edwin's lectures. This man can NOT teach, and the faculty backs him because he has tenure. I read the reviews, and figured I could self study my way through the class, but this is not and easy class to teach yourself in. I ended up watching professor Leonard videos to just scrape by. I am a straight A student so this man really ruined my GPA. He has take home group quizzes with like hourssss worth of work, which I hated. DONT TAKE
I normally do very well in math classes, but it was so hard to go through his class. Goes extremely fast (finished material three weeks before finals) and is very disorganized (we were still being quizzed on section 14.6 after our chapter 14 midterm). At least everything's on WebAssign, so I just watched Professor Leonard to do HW.

This man's the best pal I've met in De Anza. His lectures are clear and concise. He's just one of the top-class professors at De Anza. Sure, he may not teach much, but give the man a break he's been fighting against crime his entire life. Good luck, you got this!

Just horrible. I cant even find words to describe this mans behavior specially during the covid quarter. Dude, he literally was holding a phone with his left hand while trying to solve random problems using his right hand and there was a problem with his phone where every 5 seconds, the screen would go off from camera to his home screen. go figure

Rude professor. I came into office hours and opened the door and before i even came in he said "HAVENT U HEARD OF KNOWING THE DOOR??" I'm replied with: i didn't grow up in that type of household.... I then proceeded to ask him questions but he continually sighed/seemed annoyed like he didn't want to help me... WHY are you professor then?????????
He doesn't teach. He covers the bare minimum about the concept during the lectures then just starts doing a bunch of random problems. Then he puts a lot of things from the textbook on the tests. You essentially have to know the material beforehand to pass (and self-study!). The tests are full of provable mistakes for those who do know the material.

I'm not normally good with math, and this professor is not normally good at lecturing, but if you want the freest A in your math life, take this guy.
He is the worst teacher I've ever taken. He is so rude to the students who ask any questions. He doesn't actually teach he just does 5-6 practice problems and that's all. He doesn't follow the syllabus and gets mad when you aks about it. He was weeks ahead of schedule constantly. It is so hard to stay in lecture without being confused and yelled at

This the worst professor. If you like to teach yourself you might like this class but would not recommend it complete waste of money. He doesnt care if the students succeed. He never knows what sections the quizes or exams are on. He is super rude and very hard to understand. He doesnt like it when you ask questions. I literally taught myself.
If you want to teach yourself, take this class. I only passed because I have prior Calc knowledge. The lectures are two hours of practice problems with no explanation, and if you email to ask a question, it takes usually a few days to a week to get a rude, unhelpful response.
His lectures won't be to your standards most of the time, but just use the given resources and make the best out of it. You will easily get an A if you just put in some effort to do the homework. (Somehow, the Cheggers in our class did worse than the others)
Had slurred speech and was very hard to understand. This being said we requested he post the notes on canvas for the class to see and he said he "didn't know how to". Test questions did not rep homework at all and were very hard even online.
