This guy is one of coolest teachers I've known. Rock On Eddie
you only have one test the rest is speeches. Very fun!
Eddie is awesome! Very positive and encouraging. Makes a difficult class fun!
Great teacher! Very understanding and supportive. You will definitely get an A in his class if you do all of your speeches. There is extra credit. Do not be late for class tho, he docks off points for that.
MR. T!!!! you can get an A in his class if you just take his assignments seriously... he can be a lot of fun, but can't mix play time with school time... a lot of people messed up on their impromtus cuz they were still in play mode. coolest teacher @ ivc
What can I say? easy A class.
Edwin is great....he treats his students with respect and is very helpful. I got a lot out of his class-he's very charming.
Easy class if you do all the work
Greatest teacher ever had, he is very helpful and willing to help. If you want an easy A he is the right person to take. Great Guy!!
Man.. he's the coolest. YOU ROCK Mr.T
he is very nice, but also hard!
Mr.Tiongson is very helpful, and treats his students with respect. It's easy to get a B in this class but is very hard to get an A.
He is always available to help but don't expect an easy A. You need to work for it. If he doesn't like you, you can try your hardest including dressing up for presentation, coming in to class on time..etc and still end up with a grade lower than A.
I was so scared to take speech, but he's such a cool professor and he always laughed at my silly speeches which made me feel comfortable. Do your work and relax and you'll get an A!
Great Great teacher, best speech teacher i have had. Thanks Mr "T"
he's sooo chill!! TAKE HIM FOR SPEECH! he makes you feel comfortable when you're up there giving your speech...WAY CHILL guy! THANKS EDDIE!
I see a lot of easy class comments about him- but that is only if you get over your fear of public speaking. Tiongson is very cool, very helpful and I dig him.
i enrolled in speech before and drop out twice. When i had Mr. T, i stayed through it. I hate speech but this class is way cool. you'll like it and Mr. T is awsome..i miss that class
This guy is awesome, and extreemly cool and funny. Very laid back. Don't plan on any last-minute speeches, and you'll do fine. Do work and it's an A, plus lots of extra credit involved.
Tiongson was okay. The class was pretty chill but I still got a B.I don't feel like I learned too much from this speech class.I felt like I was in highschool again. It seems he is still finding his teaching style. If you take his class you'll need a crytologist to decipher his writing, and learn with things like BBBBP mean.(Barelyx4 pass)What a joke.

He is like a high school teacher.
He is pretty cool and you can tell he was a partier so hes really chill about stuff, but you have to make an effort and stay on top of your speeches and youll get an A for sure
I don't like him because he doesn't like his own race.
Does not help his students. He is very sarcastic. I dropped out of his class.
tiongson is nice and chill but also doesnt really seem like he gives a**** about his students. not really helpful. kinda makes you feel dumb like your wasting his time. class is easy though. just do your speeches. they're not hard. only one test. he has a strict attendance policy [5 absences=fail] but he secretly admited its just to scare ppl haha
One of the most down to earth professors you will ever meet. If you do your part as a student, he will keep his half of the bargain
He is an OKAY prof. Says one thing and does another. grades a bit hard on the speeches for a speech 1 class - if you dont need speech DONT take it- its a waste of time!
He makes you do several short speeches and four main speeches. The class is more difficult than it has to be because he requires soo many. Sometimes he can be a bit unclear about what he wants and if you ask for help, he doesn't really take the time to help you. He is also a hard grader. If you miss one of the main speeches, you get an F.
Starts off easy with review of material and quizzes. Series of short speeches worth few points. Speeches get harder and longer with each subject matter (cultural artifact, argumentative, etc.). Easy midterm and final in class prep speech for final. Extra credit for attending speech/debate for school. Great teacher, very easy.
If English is not your first language. Don't take this class!!! He is mean!!!!!!!!
This class is so stupid. He makes you do more work than what the class is worth. He's not helpful when you talk to him. He's a major bass minus the "b". Definitely not worth taking unless you absolutely have to. And if you do, don't take him!
MR. T is awesome! First time I've ever not missed a single class because it was so good. You do a bit of work on the speeches but its easy to get a B, and a little more effort gets you an A. He is very fair. He is hilarious and is a good guy. Our whole class was laughing half the time and seemed to have a good time. I highly reccommend!
The best. Very fair to all students, I would suspect those who criticize him were unwilling to do the work. This is College!!Very funny in lectures. I learned alot.
good teacher, good speaker, get to miss some days too because he is the speech and debate coach
He's a funny guy. There's not really any material you have to know, just follow the guidelines. Don't procrastinate on your big speeches. And don't even thinking about TRYING to decipher his handwriting.
Helps a lot with speeches and is hilarious. Even though this class is speech he made it fun.
I was terrified of taking this course because I get so nervous speaking in front of people, but Mr. Ed is really caring and makes you feel at ease in his speech class. It is okay if you are a bad public speaker, Mr. Ed will help you, just pick topics that you are passionate about and you will do fine. I almost dropped this class, but I got an "A"
Mr. T is one of my best teahcers. Had him for an online class and have to say I absolutely loved his class. Made every speech for better improvements and was funny yet direct. Would absolutely take his class again
He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so helpful, and he uses anolgies that the students can relate to. Pick a topic that you enjoy and you will surely succeed in his class.
this guy is a great teacher! I used to get really nervous when speaking in front of a class, but he was extremely helpful to help me get over this fear. Very entertaining and a very laid back and kind person. take his class, you won't regret it!
if you're thinking of taking a speech class you definetly have to take him! the class is pretty simple, just the whole memorizing your speech can be time consuming. you have 3 major presentations and little ones here and there. fun class. you just have to take the class seriously and put time into your speeches or else you won't get an A.
Really nice guy. A little intense about speech. Forced to take the class, he won't bother you, but I would rather have a professor who didn't care that much about the textbook or speech terms. Prepare to study for a class that is supposed to be easy!
take him during the summer cuz its a lot easier and you can concentrate more on just this class (plus my counselor said speech is easier in the summer time). gives out extra credit if you dress up for your speeches it really is an easy and fun class. generous on points for pop quizzes. couldnt have had a better professor for this class.
Makes it harder than it needs to be. Watch out when he's in a bad mood. Plays favorites! pop quizzes, lab assignments, 3 major speeches, 3 impromptu speeches including final, & 1 exam.
Doesn't care about tardies much, 3 absences = letter deduction, accepts late work, uses an online book, two pop quizzes, some extra credit, video tapes speeches, a few impromptu speeches, overall nice guy. He gave me leniency and let me redo two speeches when I got too flustered.
I hate public speaking with a passion and Professor Tiongson didn't really help ease the nerves. After a couple of little speeches he expects you to be perfect and not to be nervous anymore. But he's a nice grader and he is always out of class bc he's in charge of the debate club.
I HATE THIS TEACHER!!!! I would reather shot my self then take him again!!! he almost made me lose my acceptance to ASU!!!! he doesnt help you at all and plays favorites!!! if he doesnt like you he will give you attuitude!!! you have to fight him on everything to if he doesnt like you to get the grade you really diserve!!! gives stupid pop quizzes!
Ugh-- I expected to do pretty well in this class because I have never been nervous with public speaking but he grades the speeches pretty intensely. The homework other than speeches was easy. For 2 speeches he didnt give me any time cues and I was deducted for going over the limit. He's funny but his class sucks
Jolly giant. It's a hard class so try your best, recite your speeches and you do fine. Took it in summer got a well deserved A for effort.
Great teacher! Interesting lectures with useful information. The text was a bit of a snooze but it was not very expensive. Use lots of examples in your papers and try to make them humorous. Show up, do the work and you'll be sure to get a good grade.
Mr. T. is the best. Yes you have to work, but it is worth it. No slackers in this class but our class loved him. He does not play favorites. THE BEST PROFESSOR AT IVC.
Professor Tiongson is awesome. If you go to class, do the assignments, and participate in class discussions, you'll be fine. Easy A.
I took it in the summer. The written test was easy! The speeches, however, were difficult but manageable! Take his class! He's a GREAT teacher!
Mr. T is great! The class is fairly easy, but it's still college so don't expect to show up and get an A for doing nothing. DON"T MISS CLASS! He takes off a lot of points if you miss a day of class. Take his course!
Mr. T was great! Hes a funny guy and he makes speech easy using examples and makes students feel comfortable. Not so much of a fan of him recording our speeches but it was not that bad.
There are only 3 major speeches you do in front of the whole class but you do have to do a speech in front of a small group almost every week. Not terribly hard but not the easiest class either.
You will not find another professor who is more passionate about speech than Mr. T. At first I hated coming to class but as he shattered the fear of speech barrier through constant practice (in front of small groups) the class became more enjoyable. There were weekly reflection writing assignments which were a pain but that is my only complaint.
This guy doesn't care about what students say in the speech. All he cares about is that you memorize a 6-8 min speech 100%. Those who use note-cards for their speeches will not get higher than a c-. I hate this guy, just because i cant remember an 8 minutes speech doesn't mean i deserve a c-. Choose another professor.
Prof is a really good teacher.great beginner class that cover the basics. Only thing is you do A LOT of speeches. Including practice ones and about 4-5 main speeches in front of the class. Be prepared to face your fears of public speaking other than fair grader and pretty good prof! Enjoyed his class and became a better speaker!
He's awesome. He makes you do a huge amount of speeches, and he's a little quirky, but he is still amazing.
by for the best and inspiration teachers i have had at IVC. In the beginning i was about to drop this class because he told us we had to do like 20 speeches, but my mom made me stay, and i do not regret one bit! ended up with an A in the class. and Real speeches are easy since you get so much practice from the practice speeches. best class ever.
hes a very good speech teacher. i happen to be someone who is comfortable speaking in front of people and i even learned a lot more. he makes it easy for the class to all get to know each other to make it easier on those who are shy. it really helps. recommend him.
Easy. To Ace this course, all you really have to do is turn in all of the papers (which btw are incredibly easy and repetitive) and participate in every speech and practice speech.
He plays favorites when grading! I did all the speeches and most papers. My attendance was great, yet i got a C! I know I deserved a B. Take another teacher. besides he wants you to be there at all times! And don't be late,
Great Professor. Passionate about speech, fair grader, and nice guy.
He is such a good professor, I say take the class. It is hard because you do more than 10 speeches during the semester but it is worth it. In order to get an A you need to get a good grade on the test and essay he gives at the beginning of the semester, and participate in all the impromptus and do all the speeches. Take the class, you'll like it
Really easy class. To ace this class all you have to do is to do all the PA assignments. We had to do 16 speeches, but it's really not that bad because most of them are in small groups and you get to know the people around you and it helps people who are shy. He is pretty nit-picky, but if you follow the format then you should be fine.
Professor Tiongson is a fair grader but hard as well. There are a lot of speeches, almost every class you have to give a speech and theres only one exam. Overall hard class.
Great class. Very beneficial. He knows what he's teaching. He likes us to give a lot of speeches cz that's the only way to improve.
Good teacher. Very strict with abscense and never be late or else he will take off points. Gives a lot of speeches and tough grader. If you want to learn take his class, if you just want an "A", take another class.
Prof Tiongson likes us to give speeches to improve and gives extra credit points as well. He knows effective teaching methods and has unique ways to teach us.Although he grades a bit hard you should definitely take him to benefit from this class.
Prof Tiongson does not give a lot of homework but he grades hard so make sure you are ready to do a lot of speeches and if you want an "A" you have to work harder than you think.
Mr.T is awsome and funny but if you are looking for an easy class. Its not for you.
Mr. T is a great professor. He can make you hate public speaking less, and you will be good at it. He grdes really hard, and the class can be repetetive, but it is for your benefit. As for extra credit, he will have you dance for peanuts; the extra credit is worth less than the effort to get it. I highly recommend this class.
He coaches the IVC speech team which has won numerous state and national championships. He knows his stuff. It's not an easy A, but if you do all the speeches and listen to the advice he gives, you'll walk out a better public speaker than you were when you started, I sure did.
He is super chill professor. However, he gives plenty of homework and speeches basically in every class. He is a must if you really want to improve your skills.
This was not an easy class for me bec I was nervous to give a speech in English in front of the class. However, after many practices in small groups, I felt better and I did better each time. If you take Prof. Tiongson's advice in improving your speech, and he sees that you try, he won't keep an A from you. I learned a lot from this class. Thx Prof
Not that easy of a class, because your flaws as a communicator come out. Hes not that nice of a guy; he has a very passive-aggressive style of dealing with people. Be prepared to give speeches every class period. HW isnt that hard- and I didnt even get the book but still passed the class. Its not a class to float thru- you actually have to practice
He's a great professor who is committed to making you a better speaker. Expect frequent participation - speeches every class. Fair amount of work. PRACTICE. You'll make a lot of friends and it's really interactive, so it won't be too scary to talk. I was so upset for having to take the class but ended up really enjoying it. Got a lot out of it!
He is super funny and nice..i just thought it weird how we NEVER used the textbook but for like one question for the midterm which is an essay question. If your really uncomfortable speaking (like me) you will appreciate this class because he has you speak in small groups the whole time except for like 2 or 3 major speeches and by then its a breeze
This is the funnest class I ever had! i will miss this class and i will miss Mr. T! the class is very interesting cause i keep going back for more. its an easy A if you just keep doing your work!
Lots of HW, be expected to do essays about every day varying in size. Not an easy A.
- in the beginning you have chapter readings and written assignments but after, all you do are speeches. - loved my class. you really get to know each other. - confusing instructions at times - you give LOTS of speeches in groups AND inferno of class. -prepares you for competition -you do learn and get comfy with speaking
Taken for speech and was actually a really good learning experience. You work in smaller groups throughout the semester which made it easy to make friends with everyone for the final, which is for the whole class. Clear instructions but didn't really need the book.
He's probably the best lecturer iv'e ever had, and since he is a speech professor anytime he talk it just blows my mind how amazing he is. Hands down, the best professor iv'e had at my time here at IVC
Took Prof. Tiongson's summer course and loved it! I came in super nervous and scared because we had to do like 20 speeches in 7 weeks- walking out comfortable speaking! He's thorough and works with you. Very well-respected. Take his class! Also, the textbook cost me $3. He's not the type to charge students a lot for course material
Stressful class (I have bad social anxiety) but truly helpful in the end. Gotta take his class at some point in your life. Helpful and supportive professor, however there's a LOT of work for just a speech class. Worth it in the end.
He is very funny and keeps you interested. If you participate in class and ask questions, then he really appreciates it. He is always willing to help. Expects you to be responsible and complete work, and will grade you baed on improvement. If you make sure to do the things he wants you to do then he will give you the A. Always ask for his opinion!
For 1/3 of the sem. he lectures, for the rest we got to practice generating/giving speeches to our peers most of the time. He's always willing to help whenever we have questions and is consistently clear on what he expects of us. 1 written midterm, 1 Forensics comp speech not intimidating, don't worry & 1 small ext speech + 1 large ext speech !
Lots of speeches! Intimidating at first but once you get to know your classmates and the more speeches you give, the easier it gets. Definitely a doable class. You will learn a lot too. Only complaint is that he can be unorganized and unresponsive at times. He also gives plenty of extra credit opportunities for those of you who like missing class.
Super chill teacher, he's very considerate about being nervous to speak in the front so he makes students do speeches in small groups. there are impromptus in every class, 1 essay, 1 test, and the final is a 7 minute speech.
This guy bugs. His lectures were all over the place. Most, if not all, the students in my class were unclear of what he expected of us. When we would ask, he seemed to get annoyed. Avoid him if possible. Harsh grader too.
He's the coach of the IVC Speech & Debate team, so he knows what he's doing. I thought I'd hate this class because I hate public speaking, but it actually turned out to be really fun! Yes, you have to give a lot of speeches, but you get comfortable with it in the end, especially after you get to know your classmates and make new friends.
Very accessible outside class, but is not a very nice guy so I wouldn't recommend taking his class.
Professor Tiongson is very harsh and mean when it comes to grading your speeches. He will call you out the simplest things and if things dont go the way he wants them to he will doc you for a lot of points. He accepts late credit, up to 2 days without a penalty. But him saying negative comments makes you not want to take this class.
I enjoy the subject of this class and the professors humor but I hate how OVERLOADED the homeworks are. Maybe I took 5 courses and thats a lot for me to deal with my outside and school life. But this class was one of the most stressful to the point I had to reduce my sleeping schedule for the sake of this class work.
If you put in a little effort you are fine. He is a kind professor unless you don't try then he will be frustrated. If you do the work it's an easy A as I'm not a great speaker but still passed. if you miss one class your grade will be affected heavily but he allows you to make it up by going to other classes but your grade will still hurt a lil.
Excellent class and teacher!!
If you wanna aim for A in comm, you might be on the margin with this professor. He is a tough grader.
He can be a little harsh when it comes to grading, but he tries to help get rid of the flaws you might have. Even though it's online, he tries his best to respond and grade in a timely manner. There are probably other better professors out there, but he's teaching how to improve your character.
I feel like he is just immature. I don't like him and he will single you out for unreasonable things. Being tardy will effect your grade even though this is supposed to be college not high school. Secondly his work is just tedious. Communications is a class for general education, not our major, don't make it so hard for us just because you're bored
I realized how lazy the teaching seemed. The speeches we are required to give in class are the same thing over and over again and the feedback we receive are from peers, making it hard to actually know if I am improving by the teacher's standards. The professor often posts announcements an hour before class, which is very inconvenient.
Prof. Tiongson was a great teacher! He was funny and engaging and the class itself was easy. One thing you need to prepare for is speeches. By the end of the semester, you are pretty much giving small group speeches every class. They aren't hard, but there are a lot of them. It is also important that you show up to class or you won't get credit.
Highly recommend his class.I took an 8-week course with him and although the course was intense, he allowed for 24-hour late permit and gave lots of interesting extra credit. If you complete the assignments and attend each class, you will get A. If there's one thing that could be improved, it's that I can't read his scribbled handwritten comments.
I don't know if he has some inflated sense of how important his class is, or if he gets off on making his students suffer, but the amount of assignments combined with the length of those assignments is pretty insane. Within week 3 he makes you do a 7 minute presentation with 7 sources and will dock you if your knees aren't showing.
He's a good professor with helpful feedbacks on interesting topics. The biggest problem is probably too much homework and too little time. He often posts late announcements every week, one day before deadline for the first two assignments. He has late policies, but it's still inconvenient and made me stressed for completing all of his assignments.
It takes months to grade assignments. I was three months into the class but still was two months behind on grades. Doesn't give any feedback (until months later) and docks points on it because you didn't follow his feedback (he didn't have any feedback to work with). A ridiculous amount of assignments and busy work.
For first few weeks, he was a nice teacher with useful feedbacks and interesting topics. BUT after 2 months with tons of assignments, no feedback, no grades, I was disappointed and depressed in this class. Didn't learn anything new except receiving only classmates' feedbacks. Late announcements! Heavy assignments with limited time!
The class comprises only three units, yet Professor T expects his students to allocate 15 hours to it. At the commencement of the course, there were approximately 22 students enrolled. However, as time progressed towards the midpoint of the semester, only ten students remained in attendance. If you want a bad life, just pick his class.
He graded maybe 15% of our assignments during the entire semester so we never received feedback. We also still have not gotten our grades back after the grade deadline. He was nice and responded to most canvas messages. We had the same assignment (6-8 min speech) every week with a different topic. It felt like a lot of busy work.
I have disability accommodations, and I chose this class assuming Professor T is a good teacher. His class was supposed to be easy: three credits, but no. I didn't get proper answers to the questions I asked him personally. The assignment requirements weren't clear. For communication, this course lacks communication.
lots of homework and you need to dedicate every day to this class
Professor Tiongson is a harsh grader with a heavy workload. There are many assignments, and the amount of homework makes it hard to keep up. Feedback is often harsh and doesn't feel constructive, which adds to the stress. If you're looking for a class with more flexibility, this one might be tough to manage with all the deadlines and assignments.
Edwin Tiongson is a harsh, uneducated teacher. He posts late announcements, and instructions are hard to follow. He is also a harsh grader and makes the communication course seem unengaging. No grades were posted. You have to dedicate 7-8 hours to catch up on assignments and sometimes put 4-5 assignments in one day to finish.
It's not a super difficult class and the assignments are easy but you have an assignment due basically every day. it's pretty easy to fall behind if you don't check canvas everyday
If you are a student who is willing to put effort throughout your college semesters, take this Professor. Many assignments are given continuously, but you could see the pattern and just keep it short for discussion posts if you're lazy, as long as the sentences meet the requirements. He may not ironically be good at communicating, but he's easy.
So mean and unprofessional. Not worth it.
Eddie. I've never seen you teach. But I remember you once acted like you were doing me such a favor. It was clear you had already let the tenure position go to your head. And based on what I saw of your work back in college, I doubt your teaching warrants any sense of superiority you might display in your classroom (based on a few comments).
Being honest, Prof. T gives a very heavy workload! But if you want to learn and value the philosophy of learning from practice, pick him! But one thing to be cautious about is his announcements, which tend to be overwhelming. So, make sure to read every email, every word, and not miss anything.
Do NOT take this professor. Loads of homework, workload is abysmal, and the professor unironically is really bad at communicating.
This class was okay, but it was a lot of work for a 3 unit class. I would say it had more work to do than my 4 or 5 unit classes. Professor didn't grade most of the assignments until the end. A lot of speeches and assignments, if you have a heavy workload I would just recommend taking this class online.
