This guy is the top dawg in the Econ dept. get him
A little difficult, but I left the class having learned a lot.
Great professor
Hard to follow lectures. Do homework and Essay Sets and you will do well.
Incredibly difficult tests... homework can take hours & is worth only 2 points
rude condescending and does not care about students at all
Book is more clear, but he is willing to help/change test dates/offer HW points
The class is do-able but it takes a lot of effort
Not an easy teacher, but a B is possible with cramming the night before. He really knows what he is talking about, keeps class interesting, is always willing to help, and a fair grader.
DO NOT TAKE HIM ...GET PROFESSOR FIELDS
Funny but not too consistent in his grading, your test grades are more or luck than anything else.
Compared to 331 this class was a breeze. Do the essay set questions before each exam and you will get an A. Also, start the paper at the beginning of the semester, it takes longer than two days to do it.
Extremely nice guy, always willing to help with office hours and review sessions. Lectures are mostly boring and sometimes a little hard to follow. My advice is study hard and take advantage of his willingness to help you.
Funny guy, not boring. Do your questions before exams and you should be good to go. Do research paper in advance. If you do that, A isn't hard to get.
his tests are hard. multiple choice is difficult yet essay is simple. reminds me of the guy form the quickie mart in the simpsons. so i guess that makes him a funny guy.
if you are considering him for gecon, first check out Brian O'Roark, hes sooo much better and prob the most talented prof in the economics dept.
HARD! Can't understand anything because of his accent AND the material is confusing. HW is next to impossible, takes attendance every class, tests are long essays. Does give study guides which really help though.
He has a bit of an accent, but if you are an econ major, youll understand exactly what he is talking about. His quizes are directly from the hw problems and if you work thru them and the review sheet its an easy A.
handwriting is barely legible...just lists equations on the board and shows overheads of random graphs...going to class is worthless but he takes attendance everyday...essays for test help...everything i learned in this class i taught myself.
the class is challenging, but fun. dr.ahmed makes the class interesting. tests are hard, but the essays help you prepare.
This class is just hard, doesn't really matter who is teaching it. He gives out the essays for the test in advance and has some really helpful study sessions where you can quiz him on whatever. But don't expect much if you go to his office hours.
Study lecture notes and read the book then you will be fine. This class is not bad at all.
The material is interesting, the professor, not at all. Not helpful, don't waste your time trying to get himto explain any material ioffice hours. Does not read anything you write (hmwk Q&As are in book to copy) barely looks at anything you give to him.
do the work that he expects from you and the class is pretty simple
Ahmed is awesome, take him for econ, I have friends who took O'Rourke and trust me this is better. He does review sessions, gives sample essays which make there way onto the test, and sample multiple choice. And hes funny!!
I thought I was going to be a business major before this class.Ugh,it was VILE! Shouldn't be that hard, but it definately was! He's not helpful at all and he publically humiliates and berates students. And the book was ridiculously expensive! I dreaded every moment in that class!Avoid at all costs!
Really funny guy, keeps a boring subject interesting. Tests are hard though. But go to review sessions and study and they're not that bad.
really funny guy, makes class interesting. There are 8 homework assignments..not hard and help grade. The tests aren't that bad if you study. He's very helpful if you don't understand and his review sessions help. I recommend taking him
Great teacher, helps out, yet is tough! Very funny and has a great sense of humur...is willing to help...loves math!
My favorite professor :)
Possibly the most interesting econ class I ever....well maybe Game Theory was a little stranger....but his class actually focused on the issues facing a lot of countries around the world. I can't deny that he has a desire to teach his students how to put economics to good use.
he's a nice guy, but doesn't know how to teach freshmen/sophomres he assumes you know the material, tests are ridiculous, no extra credit, homework is graded on how well you do and is done before he teaches it to you.
EGO boost to Ahmed for having an interesting first day of class and referenced his name being on this site a lot.
Funny guy and very helpful. .i think he's a great professor. . he gives you the test questions ahead of time, so if you do bad, that's your fault. . . keeps me interested in class. . i enjoy it. . i would definitely take him
Do not take this class. Does not know how to "dumb down" lessons for a gen ed class!! He is too used to teaching upper level econ classes that he thinks we already know these concepts...which we dont!!! I studied countlessss hours for exams, went to review sessions, got a tutor, did sample essays and will fail the class...so i am dropping it! avoid
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! CLASS AVG. WAS A 68 ON BOTH TESTS!! He tries to help but just doesn't know how to teach well. This class will destroy your GPA!! Take another professor!!
A fairly funny professor, but is extremly hard. Dosen't explain the concepts very well. He gives you a sample test before each test, however the Multiple choice for the sample is often 10X easier then the multiple choice on the actual test. His review sessions are fairly helpful and HW and good attendance can help your grade a little bit.
Ahmed is hillarious! Adorable, witty, and smart. He is also interested in helping and makes every effort to be sure he is available to answer questions.
Guy's got mad jokes.. Gives you essay questions before test so study them and you will be alright. Very deserving of the Chilli Pepper!!!
At first I didn't understand anything in class, then I read the chapters from the textbook. Now, everything makes sense and his class is 10x easier. Just read the book and do the practice essay questions (which he does multiple review seassion for) before the test and you're golden.
Everyone who said that Ahmed didn't know how to teach a Gen-Ed class was right. He does assume that you already have knowledge of the material and he does move super incredibly fast. After the first three weeks, we were on chapter 7. It's too hard for freshmen and sophomores unless you're Doogie Howser. Should have gotten out when I had the chance.
horrible professor...dont get me wrong i love econ but this guy just doesnt know how to teach. even my advisor said that he's a better administrator than a teacher
Ahmed is the worst professor I've had. He can't teach a GenEd because he's an expert and he expects us to be experts too Sometimes I think he just thinks of what he knows about economics and decides to teach it The tests are impossibly hard (class average=65) and contrary to some of the other comments, he is not funny although he tries. I regret it
Avoid him at all costs, he is so hard and he loves it. He takes pride in his annual class average of a 62.
Extremely hard. Like someone else said, he's an expert, but the class is supposed to be a gened, and it's way too hard. I studied for 15 hours for each exam and got an average of a 60. Impossible. He's somewhat willing to help if you go see him, but you have to know what questions to ask. Incredibly hard and frustrating material and class.
Good Teacher! You always know what to expect on your tests, they are usually 4 essay questions with 1 mandatory and then you can pick 2 of the remaining 3 to do. He gives a list of essay question to study and he picks from that list. Very clear and interesting and and he references current events. Material is hard, but he makes it easier.
Quality class. He is a good teacher who can be a little hard to understand at times but he really prepares you for the tests and if you try you will get at least a B. There are 3 tests and 1 NON-****ulative final and 1 research paper. Overall good class and teacher
Good teacher, he comes off boring at first but later in the semester is funnier and makes class a little more interesting. Hard class though, short answer essays on tests. go to class!! stuff in class is on test that isnt in the textbook. better class than i expected.
Very clear on what he expects of you. I learned so much in this class Gives you test questions before hand which allows you to get an A after a lot of studying.
Dr. Ahmed is a GREAT proffeser, and I highly recommend his class. He makes himself extremely available by holding review sessions, giving sample essays, and being available through e-mail and office hours. I would advise sitting near the front because he is a little hard to understand sometimes. Go to the review sessions, do your homework, and stud
Terrible teacher. His lectures are painful to listen to, he often makes points and then moves on, and then changes direction completely. As bad as he is at conveying points to the class, he's even worse at providing any explanation for them, often simply saying this is that. You'd learn more hitting yourself with the book than listening to him.
Perhaps the worst econ teacher at JMU. The tests appear to be simple, as does the class, but are completely difficult to comprehend. Its much easier to read the textbook and learn full from reading than learn from his lectures. His review sessions don't help either, despite what he believes. (Graphs suck too!)
This guy is hilarious. I actually enjoy going to this class just to hear him insult someone. While he is demanding, if you do the reading and go to class you should get a C. In response to other comments if your an idiot and don't go to class or do reading of course your average is going to be low, maybe you should reconsider being a business major
It is a difficult class as it is but since it is a genreal ed class it should not be as difficult as upper level economics and since he is the department head he has higher expectations
Very hard to understand him. Lectures make no sence and he just rambles on about nothing. Also have weekly homework which is pretty hard but could possibly save your grade if you struggle on his hard tests. I would avoid him if possible
Mr. Ahmed's class is like any other business class one would take in terms of workload. I think it is an eye opener to those who feel that they can just breeze through college as though it was as easy as high school hence all the negative comments. I study and i am doing well. I must say however, that i dread going to the lecs but hey thats college
his lectures are hard to understand, and the weekly online homework will make you want to kill yourself every sunday night. the tests aren't too bad, you get 4 multiple choice ones throughout the semester. he's pretty funny, in an awkward kind of way. i would say avoid him if you can.
Some students rate this professor thinking "well he's hard, but hey that's college right?" Wrong. I have higher standards, and this guy to me is a below average professor. Period. This is a great business school and people need to realize that going here means more than just doing tons of work. Ahmed needs to step it up.
If you don't have to take this class don't! Hardest GENED I've taken at JMU! You will study for hours and not get the grade you want. Go to office hours if you need help.
Ahmed is definately a very challenging professor teaching a very challening subject. He's the head of the ECON dept so he has pretty high standards. His tests are difficult and you have to study a ton. The weekly online homework is just a big pain. He is funny in class and doesn't care about being politically correct which made class interesting.
Economics is suppose to be challenging but hes really not that hard. All his tests come straight from the text book, I didn't pay attention at all during class and just study from the text book and I got a B in the class. Also his tests are multiple choice(I know two other professors that have essays for their exams) I would reccomend taking him
ehsan is quite possibly the worst teacher i have encountered at jmu. being in class everyday does not even help. he just scribbles all over the board and does not make any sense. you will not learn anything and will not get a good grade. avoid him at all costs.
Dr. Ahmed is head of the ECON department and knows so much about econ. BUT you won't be able to understand anything. scribbles on the board and expects you to pick up what he's teaching. NOTHING BUT horror stories about his class, and he doesn't make it any easier. my advice and of many others: SWITCH OUT ASAP! half my class dropped... smart ppl!
Ahmed teaches a very boring class. If you do the work and try to decipher it you can get a C. the textbook is useless. he makes you do online aplia quizes which take an hour out of your sunday night. overall id say you avoid this guy.
Great Professor who is extremely knowledgeable and pretty entertaining. Tests are straight from his in class lectures. HW helps you to better understand the material while boosting your grade. Basically pay attention, and as long as you aren't a complete dunce you should do just fine.
To the rater who insulted this professor for being "punjab," please GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. This prof has been in America for 30+ years, so he's more American than you are. You're probably Punjab yourself so you're just mad cause he didn't favor you for being one and failed you. Psh, Nationalism. Gets you no where. STUDY and go to office hours.
Extremely difficult for a GenEd course. He has very high expectations for students but does not realize that some are only taking his class to fulfill GenEd requirements. You will study for hours and not get much higher than a C at best if you are not a buisness major. Avoid this class.
He is head of the ECON department. He knows a lot about ECON, however he is terrible at explaining things. He scribbles on the board and expects you to know what he means without going over it. In class all we do are mock mathematical problems and come the test nothing we learn about in class is on the test. Avoid him!!
Avoid at all costs. This teacher is absolutly horrible. You can't understand a word he says he rarely writes on the board (when he does goodluck on reading the chickenscrath he calls writing) and he doesnt use the book. One more class where i had to sit thru and listen to him say "Come on people" and i would have ended it right there.
Can't understand what he says. Often makes mistakes and relies on the students to catch him on it. Only grades are tests and they are very hard. Do not take if you can avoid him. Hard work won't get you anywhere in this class. You either get it or you fail.
HARDEST CLASS OF MY LIFE! but become a favorite of his and somehow you'll get by. Sit in the front, read the text because he will randomly call on students to answer questions so when u dont know what the answer is, he knows your not reading. He laughs at students at times but is pretty funny. STUDY STUDY expect no sleep when taking this class.
Excellent
You can understand him and tests are ridiculously hard. The average on one of our tests was a 60. This class killed my GPA. Avoid him at all costs, he is terrible.
Amazingly hard. Econ is very difficult but Ahmed really makes it worse. There are three tests and a final. The aplia assignments are the death of you. I pulled all two Bs and a C+ on his tests and failed the aplia. The book is hardly used. Very difficulty class. Got a C+.
boring boring boring. Grade is based off of 4 tests. the final is not cummulative! There are weekly hw assignments online which are quizzes. If you read the book and study hard you should get a B. Its kinda hard but your grade equally reflects the amount of work you put into it. My friends took GECON and it sounds as if he might be the best prof.
For all of you that do not work very hard in classes, do not take this class. i am telling you avoid this man at all costs. Hands down the most incomprehensible and most difficult teacher i have ever had. Finish with a D-. Do NOT take him. Period.
Very difficult for a gen ed! I have a B- in the class but you have to study for all tests, seeing as the class average for tests were never over a 75%. However he goes over everything in the book pretty well every class so attendance is recommended. Very long and boring classes with his very strong accent and he NEVER lets out early!
Everyone says they hate him, but Dr, Ahmed has a funny sense of humor. He explains everything very clearly in class and is willing to help anyone that asks. The online homeworks are a great grade booster. MUST study in this class to do well, but tests are not impossible.
Ahmed is a great professor. He's the department head of Economics, so you bet your ass he knows his stuff. And he teaches very well too. Slight accent, but certainly no barrier. Sit in the front, pay attention, and study your textbook before the test. He's a knowledgeable, funny guy, and isn't as impossible as people say he is. I'd take him again.
Hands down the easiest Econ class I've taken. He posts the notes online, gives a comprehensive study guide way based on the notes, and picks the exam questions straight from the study guide. He even labels potential exam questions on the notes. Dr. Ahmed is the kindest, most accommodating faculty member out of the entire department. Take his class
Professor Ahmed's class is hard but not impossible. For a gened it requires a lot of work and reading but he has hour long review sessions before every test. He is the head of the department so he definitely knows his stuff. He is very fair and wants you to do well but this class is no joke.
Dr. Ahmed is very knowledgeable when it comes to economics. His lectures are long and very boring, but if you can manage to pay attention they are very helpful. He is very helpful outside of class. If you read, do the assignments, and go to class this class is not challenging.
GECON 200 is not an easy course, whoever you get. Ahmed is very easy-going and gives funny examples. However, the material is dry and the tests always seem to be a lot harder than what you're expecting. His are all essay-less so that's a plus. Just don't take this class unless you're really into Economics, because if not, you'll regret it.
If you can take Macroeconomics as a transfer credit, DO IT!!! I made the mistake of taking this awful class with Dr. Ahmed and learned the hard way. Went to his office hours, studied every day, went to "review" sessions and still didn't do well on tests. Dr. Ahmed could care less about your success in this class. No idea why he is head of Econ..
Wonderful teacher and person. If you go to class and do as he says you can be successful. Very straight forward class with homework grades as a cushion for the 50 question multiple choice tests. The subject is hard but he tries to help you do your best.
If you pay attention in the lectures and read the text book and study ALOT. you will do okay. However, when i went for help the teacher was extremely rude. If you have the option take a different teacher, but as long as you study you will not fail this class.
He's a very nice guy overall but has a strong accent, hard to understand. His exams are very hard. You just need to study a lot and pay attention and make sure you attend class otherwise you won't pass.
This teacher is extremely rude, his lectures are unorganized and unclear. You can barely understand what he's saying and he doesn't like to clarify anything. It's pointless going to lectures because he just confuses you more. I taught myself from the text book to get good grades.
This class is not a walk in the park. Prof. Ahmed is kinda helpful. He hold review secession before each test however I did not find them at all. He gives a lot of review questions before the test! Look over homework assignments and you will do better on the tests. Often he puts homework questions on the test. Text book was a lot of help
So I am not an econ major. However I enjoyed having Ehsan as my teacher. He is so funny (Dry humor), but he explains the concepts clearly. His sample sets are always on the tests as are his examples from class. You should participate in class, and go to his office hours. If do he will do what he can to help you out.
Great Econ teacher, but only if you've taken Econ before. For Macro, his lectures and long and monotone and only cover 14 of the material. ALWAYS READ THE BOOK! He is fairly funny and a nice man, but his tests and assignments are very hard. In addition, he never posts any grades until the final grade on MyMadison.
Great the text book, you'll be fine. If you don't, you'll probably get a c or below.
If you are not good at economics DO NOT TAKE AHMED! This class murdered my gpa to get into COB. He does not offer help, even if you go to office hours and test prep sessions. If you say something wrong, he will laugh and pick on you. There is online homework once a week and several tests. You have to buy the book AND read it!
As far as jmu econ professors go he's not too bad but he is not helpful at all. You geet extra credit if you never skip class and takes attendance, but it's kinda hard to understand him and he expects everyone to understand everything easily. His accent is distracting and the tests are stressful, but its definitely possible to pass with effort
He is hard to understand, does not explain anything, and is just plain rude. I would not recommend taking his class.
It's a boring class becuase of the material but Dr. Ahmed tries to liven it up. He definitely made me laugh this semester. Beware: $250 textbook and ConnectPlus for homework, but you can check your answers on each question to see if they are right or wrong so that's awesome. Also, his tests are only multiple choice.
Dry humor. Makes the class interesting. The material is pretty boring regardless if you're an econ major or not. He's a sweet guy. This tests are multiple choice. He does have a slight accent, but it's really no where near as bad as some of the others say. My theory is that they haven't been exposed to people with accents before.
Great class, I am a finance major so I like the subject but I think that Ahmed makes it very interesting and his lectures are funny. Definitely have to read and work for it but it was my favorite class.
this class was tough, but he's a sarcastic guy so i found him pretty entertaining. tests are tough but if you study and outline the chapters then you will be fine.
Professor Ahmed overall is not a bad professor. His tests are multiple choice which was very nice, and they weren't terribly difficult except for the final (which he did curve because of the difficulty). He is a little hard to understand at first but you soon get used to his accent. The lectures were also pretty good. Also -- attend class.
Although he is a good teacher, to be a department head is so bad !!!!!!!
Not only is he the head of the Econ department, he's the toughest grader/prof I've had yet. Doesn't sugar coat things, doesn't curve grades, and expects you to know what he's talking about at all times. Exams are hard and the weekly online homework is even harder. I have to work super hard to get a C. I'd take someone else if possible
Hated this class but honestly, I could've worked a lot harder. Ahmed is a funny guy, and very knowledgeable about economics. He teaches lots of complicated stuff, but he almost always puts it into dumbed down real-world examples (they're still hard but at least you know its useful info). Tests are MC and homework is an easy 100/100. Not a bad optio
I was skeptical to take his class because of his reviews-- but let me just tell you that he has been one of my favorite teachers so far at JMU! He really wants you to do well. Homework is on Connect and all the test questions come from that. Just go to class and pay attention and do all your homework and you will do really well. He was funny too!
Dr. Ahmed doesn't lecture by a powerpoint, instead he stands at the front of the class and draws on the blackboard all class without explaining the material very well. Don't get me wrong he is a nice guy and he wants his students to do well, but he does not teach very well making homework confusing and I had to teach a lot of the material to mysel.
He's really a one difficulty if you study right. The tests are basically the connect assignments. To study, do the first ten problems three or four times the day before and for the last 20 M.C. just take notes on the answers and focus ones you don't know. Take notes in class, hw will be way harder if u don't. If you do all this you'll do very well.
I did not work too hard at his class and got a B. The exams were pretty basic and straightforward which is good because most of these awful jmu cob professors make exams which trick your and are never clear. Make sure you do the online homework, does not take long and due like once a week or two weeks. Also read over the textbook here and there.
Really knowledgeable and knows what he's talking about. He has an accent but you can still understand everything he says. Pretty simple teaching style with just textbook reading and then he lectures on it and explains it well. 3 tests and a final. Not too much homework but reading every week. If you attend every class you get 5 or 10 bonus points.
Ahmed is a great choice for macro! He's very sarcastic and funny, and the homework is easy. Lectures aren't organized with a PowerPoint, instead he writes everything on the blackboard. Reading the textbook definitely helped me learn these concepts to secure an A but isn't necessary if you just want to pass. Gives extra credit if you go to class
Professor Ahmed is a great choice for macro. The class is pretty difficult, but he makes it worth it by giving extra credit for attendance. Do the connect assignments for hw credit and read the textbook to study for the tests! He tells funny stories and writes on the chalkboard all class. Go to office hours if you need help.
Very toxic to say the least. Confrontational, snarky, mean. Teaches well but you can hardly understand him. Absolute displease to be around quite honestly.
Staying focused was definitely harder during quarantine, but I appreciated his in person class. The connect homework assignments are very important to complete for your grade, but theyre great review for the tests. Professor Ehsan is entertaining with his witty lectures and is glad for when people ask questions.
He is very confusing and rants on about stuff that makes no sense. His handwriting is almost impossible to read and it can also be hard to understand his accent. Connect is about $140 which is way too much and all homework, assignments, and exams are on there. Lectures are super boring and I dread every class and he often goes over class time.
Ahmed wasn't a terrible professor. His class lectures were a bit boring and made it hard for me to focus. I would recommend to take someone else if possible, but he truly cares about the success of his students. He can be hard to understand because of his accent and handwriting, but pay attention and study and you'll be fine.
This class was pretty straight forward, but the lectures sometimes got confusing when we got off track. Connect assignments definitely helped my grade a lot and helped me prepare for the exams.
I swear I learned more about Pakistan in this class than I did economics. This man gives such unclear notes and he is so hard to follow. He gives many reading assignments but you can get away without ever reading. He knows what he's talking about but he doesn't know how to explain properly and encourages questions but makes it seem like theyre dumb
Professor Ahmed was ok and his lectures were a little boring and he was hard to understand. He is a genuine guy but doesn't really care about your grade. The material was easy to learn by yourself though so I'd recommend teaching yourself!
Don't get me wrong, professor Ahmed knows what he is talking about. What he isn't so capable of, is contextualizing material. You will memorize formulas that you don't know the meaning of, and you will be graded almost exclusively on exam performance, which is based on difficult to comprehend lecture material that often goes off track. Stay away.
If ur waiting for a sign, here it is. Don't take the class with this professor by any means. Your grades are based solely on tests. He's a very intelligent and nice man, but hes really bad at teaching the material. Deciphering his handwriting should be counted as a foreign language credit in itself.
Stay away from this class with this professor! He knows the material, but doesnt know how to convey the material to students. I feel like when I miss his class I miss a whole chapter of material, but when I go I dont actually retain or learn a thing. Weekly homework assignments that dont help and exams that only make your grade plummet.
if you have the option to take the class with any other professor do it even if that means taking it another semester. the information taught in class is not what is covered on the homework and the test is unlike both the lectures and the homework.
Lectures are very hard to follow and although you can tell he has experience with the topic, he does not know how to teach or present it to the class in a comprehensible manor. No matter how much you read the textbook, do the assignments, or study your lecture notes, it won't help on the exam. Class average on the first test was a 42.
His lectures do not prepare you for the exams at all, I rely on the textbook mostly. No matter how much I study and know the formulas/material the exams are extremely difficult and do not line up with the notes. He makes mistakes while teaching notes so we have the wrong information that doesn't line up with the textbook. Not good man.
Don't take this professor, he knows what he's talking about but doesn't explain it well and you will leave the class confused. There are 4 tests that make up your grade and some of the content on the tests are never discussed in class. He frequently introduces new formulas that we will be tested on but doesn't explain them well.
Mr. Ahmed fully understands Econ completely. Most boring lectures Ive had in college. 4 tests and 1 assignment every week. Tests are very hard/confusing. Reading the entire textbook is more entertaining than listening to him. Going into the final our class average was a 65. Dont take if u dont have to
Solid choice for macro. Only grades are 4 tests and weekly online homework which are easy to do well on. The tests aren't bad, hw questions are reused in them. Show up to class because he will give extra credit for good attendance. His lectures are somewhat boring and he often gets off track and always talks about Pakistan, but he low key funny.
He kinda sucks. He's honestly kinda rude, and his tests don't match up with what he says will be on them. Overall the class is not that hard, but he makes it pretty unenjoyable.
His lectures are so boring! But you will be okay if you read the textbook and do the connect assignments.
literally avoid at all costs. doesn't know how to use canvas so ur grades are not weighted correctly
Dr. Ahmed was not a good professor. He posted his notes online, but they were largely illegible and all out of order with pages often missing. He didn't respond to emails, and he kept changing his verbal directions for the paper. On the bright side, he is pretty lenient with grading, and I know a lot about Pakistan now
Enjoyed this course. Great Professor! Econ 200 doesn't come easy too most so people complain but the professor knows what he is talking about and if you pay attention you will do well
Professor Ahmed makes economics extremely difficult to understand and does not make the concept digestible for intro-level students. His tests do not reflect the lectures and make up 80% of the final grade. He is also not organized and relies on students to remember what content has been covered and what has not. Lectures are confusing.
Don't take him, he won't curve the grades even though he told the whole class he would. I thought he was an OK teacher, he wasn't terrible or great, just meh. All the tests were multiple choice and not that many math questions.
Hard to understand in lectures but go to every class and you will pass the exams. I liked the homework load but It would take a lot of studying to achieve an A in this class without studying on your own.
As a history major, this class is difficult to follow since I've never taken an economics course. If you need to take ECON 200 for your ISS minor like me, I do not recommend Professor Ahmed. He assumes that everyone has a grasp of economics and isn't great at answering students' questions. The class average on exam 1 was 68% and he was proud :/
He has a thick accent which makes it hard to understand him and his handwriting is awful so you can barely read what hes writing. The test material is very straightforward, but he just makes it so difficult to understand what is going on. Only 4 tests and thats basically your grade with a little bit of homework.
I have never been so disappointed with a teacher and their efforts to teach macroeconomics. As a freshman, I was so disappointed in the lectures that were given. I could not understand a single sentence that was taught. If you rely on the textbook, the tests will come hard for you. I would not wish this professor and his lectures on my worst enemy.
His lectures were extremely boring and made little to no sense, I learned more about Pakistan than I did Econ. The test were very hard and he gave no help with what to study. You are graded on 4 test all worth 20% and 20% homework. The homework was an easy 100, but not enough to save you after failing every test. Do not take Econ 200 with him.
Honestly, probably my favorite teacher this semester. I thought this would be my hardest class but he made the course easy to understand. Also, there was no homework and all tests were online and easily searchable and on quizlet. He also pretty much holds your hand through the entire course so If you fail it's probably your fault. Would take again.
I have never wanted to physically fight a professor before. That started today when I wanted him nut throat.
The class is fine. The work is pretty easy, with pretty frequent connect assignments with 25-30 multiple choice questions, and he's nice enough. The tests follow the textbook quite closely. My problem is that his lectures also follow the textbook extremely closely. There'd be no point in going to class, but he takes attendance.
Hes an okay guy, but its hard to understand the material if you aren't into it. you have to rely on the curves for the tests in hopes to pass. the only reason i have a C in the class is because he bumped us all up a letter grade (10 points) since we were his "worst performing class" hes ever taught.
He is a nice professor and seems to care about his students. His lectures are not super engaging but he is very knowledgeable and wants you to do well. Online homeworks are basically free points and are 20% of the grade and 3 midterms are 20% each and the final is 20%. He curves the exams like 10% and gave extra credit for attendance and one quiz.
He gives a lot of information. Overall an okay professor. The only thing that was difficult was his thick accent and awful handwriting. Tests were scored low and gave curves, he wanted his class to pass but I truly believe none of us paid attention.
He is knowledgable in the subject matter, but he does not know how to be an effective teacher. Everyone in my section is struggling to pass so he has had to curve heavily, to the point getting an 80 is an A and a 70 is a B. Please choose another professor if you can, otherwise be prepared to teach yourself the material.
Do not take Ehsan Ahmed if you can avoid him. It's not the end of the world but virtually every test had an average of 70 or worse. One of the tests we took had an average of a 55. He did end up curving every single test but he's very hard to understand and his lectures will put you to sleep.
While Professor Ehsan Ahmed is knowledgeable about the subject, his lectures can be challenging to follow. The tests are scored low, requiring heavy curving to pass. Utilizing resources like the textbook and unstuck study can help compensate for the difficulty. Overall, a manageable class with some effort.
