Worst professor ever. Wants us to act like college students, but still wants to micro-manage us. Homework assignments are ridiculous. 3 submission attempts are allowed, however, with each attempt, that section goes down 30% in the grade book. Would never take this class again.
This professor is super rude and doesn't teach at all. He doesn't want to teach students to actually learn the material he just reads of slides. Don't take this professor.
Ehsan Asghari-Ghana seemed out of touch with the students, I wouldn't take another class with him as the professor again.
ASUI Worst Professor! Do not take his class or you will not be ok. His homework take three times but ever time it will reduce your grade. And he do quiz on class, if your computer got issue or you got internet issue, he will give you zero. Attention! Do Not Take His Class!!!
He's definitely an unconventional professor. He has pop quiz either at the start or the end of the class, thus requiring you to read textbooks before the session starts (which would render his lecture already ineffective because everything he says could be learned from the textbook itself). You also would need to pay for homeworks and assignments.
This guy is terrible at teaching. He will just talk and talk and brush off questions. The homework is ridiculous and covers some topics he never taught or just breezed over. Not to mention how rude he is if you don't understand a topic. Wish I could give him a 0 rating. Don't take him!!
He's not a bad guy, but he's not a good professor for underclassman. I've had my fair share of bad professors, and he could be a lot worse. But he flies through the information and expects us to understand it immediately. You won't be able to keep up that well, I would advise another professor.
In this class, there are three levels of people: God, Ehsan, and you the lowly student (yes he actually said this). He is not willing to accommodate anything for students, but the first exam was not actually that hard. However, the daily pop quizzes are excessive and you have 2.5 minutes to do them. This class is not worth the trouble.
Honestly, he's not for everybody, sometimes he's difficult to understand and goes fast, but he does care about economics and does care about the students. He has plenty of office hours and gives free coffee, so he wants to help. A lot of students just want a teacher who is easy to pass, he isn't that. But if you put in the work you'll be fine.
He's a nice guy, in office hours he is respectful and good 1v1. But his lectures are WAY too fast to understand anything, he's not good at explaining things conceptually and a lot of the times will say "just memorize this," and sometimes his accent makes things hard to understand. I would try to take another stats professor if you can.
Do not take his class if you can. You need to attend every single class, and there's a quiz every single class. Besides, his lectures are boring and hard to understand. He spends 1/3 of the class on the most basic concept and a little time on the hard one. The only good thing about this class is that the exam is pretty easy.
He makes a simple statistics class so difficult to understand. We go through so many concepts and have very difficult homeworks and the speed he goes through the material makes it almost impossible to grasp everything in class unless you happen to be Einstein. Expect to learn everything yourself with Khan academy if you take him. AVOID!
You have to pair the book w/ lectures. If you are going into the lectures w/out reading, it will seem like he is going fast and you won't benefit from it. Daily short quizzes after lecture, but you're ok if you read the book and listen in class. He is open to feedback and tries to improve things such as grade if the majority agrees and if its fair.
He is a very strict professor. The reason he has two and not one star is because he can be very helpful in office hours. His policies are what is strict about the class and the homework is very long and takes up to 3 hours to complete. I'm on the verge to failing and I'm a dean's list student with mostly A's. I have a C- in the class so far.
Seems like a good guy but is a TERRIBLE professor. He expects you to read the textbook cover to cover, quizzes every single day (worth 10% of your grade), and the homework takes forever to do because he doesn't do any similar problems during lecture. His entire class is theory which leaves you scrambling on how to do the homework. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Seems like a nice a guy. Before taking this class, just know the professor has a strong accent, which can be hard to understand. The lectures are very fast and difficult to even do the homework. The assignments are worth very little grades and everything depends on the exams. Would not recommend taking him
When I tell you this is the worst professor I've ever had in all 3 years of college, I'm not kidding. He doesn't know how to teach AT ALL and does not care about his students. Not a single thing he teaches touches on what is to come for the exam. When you try to ask questions in class he doesn't even know the answers. Pop up quizzes every class.
Most of these reviews seem like frustrated students. His accents deep but isn't hard to understand. I think the class should be longer than 50 minutes though.4 Exams 25 multiple choice(In class scantron) and lowest score dropped. 10 online homework assignments (lengthy and challenging). 5 question quiz at the end of each class. Score high on all HW
This professor's lectures are very difficult to understand and the class is full of lengthy homework assignments and there are pop quizzes every class. Avoid if possible!
Worst class I have had in college. Learned more about stats in normal math this semester than in his class. The lectures are dull & hard to grasp. Can't learn from the HW either since answers aren't shown. Only reason he doesn't have lower score is because students who don't work and have nothing else to do except school go to his office hours.
He is not a very nice dude. Grades are weighted kind of weird, but the good thing is that homework are worth the same amount tests are. He puts much more emphasis on homework and in turn, makes tests "easier". Lectures don't make sense to me, the material doesn't make sense to me, and I honestly don't really know what's going on in the class.
very accommodating and nice, I was very sick throughout the year and he was very understanding and kind.
This professor can't teach. His lectures are very boring to pay attention too and hard to understand. I had to teach myself how to do this. Quizzes almost every class, test are 25 questions for exams 1-3. Lastly, he didn't put in exam 3 before the final, even though I ended with an A+, still unpleasant person. Overall, don't take him!!!
There were daily quizzes after class, he was open to feedback and tried to improve things like grades if most people agreed and were fair, he was very understanding and friendly.
This professor provided a class experience that was unimaginably and excruciatingly appalling from start to finish. Never did I once fully understand his lectures, nor the content within them. Homework is worth a staggering 40% of the grade and requires hours of dedication. You also only get 2 attempts per question no matter if its multiple choice.
Do NOT take this professor if at all possible. Lectures are fruitless, difficult to understand, and extremely unengaging. The vast majority of the class doesn't even bother taking notes and only attends due to the quizzes at the end of every class. I taught myself nearly all of the material outside of class. Grading is very convoluted.
I never paid attention, lectures are boring, but you gotta go to class for the quizzes which are important. MUST ACE Homework, use Chegg to teach yourself. For Exams, nail the study guides and make sure you know them in and out. He does a review day the class before exams and he just tells you whats on the Exams. Easy B to A if you do that.
The weekly homework is incredibly difficult for no reason. You NEED to ace it if you want to get a good grade in his class. Exams are surprisingly easy in comparison to the homework and in-class examples, but you need to be extremely prepared. I wouldn't recommend this professor if you want an easy A, but it's definitely doable. 1 exam gets dropped
His personality isn't bad and is actually very knowledgeable when he's lecturing. However his grading system is one of the strictest I've seen. He requires you read the textbook before coming to class so you'd understand the lecture. His lectures are confusing most of the times if you don't read beforehand. He has a quiz at the end of each class.
NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. The hardest class I've ever taken even though the material itself is not that hard. Grading is inadequate. It took him a lot of pleading emails from students to change his grading policy. Gave us only one attempt per question in homework. Changed it to 2 after voting. Overall, it was not an easy A.
Avoid this professor at all costs! His lectures are unclear and don't make any sense. He used weird explanations for the concepts. I would say he's careless about his students and not interested in their academic success. The grading policy is very strict. Also, there is a quiz at the end or at the beginning of the class to check attendance.
Has clear grading criteria but class can get really difficult especially the homework. You must read the book beforehand to understand lectures or you will be confused. He may seem strict but he is always willing to help if you go to office hours.
Practice tests are almost exactly like the actual tests. You have to go to lectures to get the quiz answers and codes. His lectures are useless so be prepared to learn on your own. Having said that, a majority of the class is just formulas
I don't get the hate! He's super nice and caring; lectures are helpful. Yes, homework is hard and worth 40% of your grade, but pay attention in class or go to office hours if you don't understand. He gives ungraded practice sets in class. The tests are ridiculously easy if you do the practice exam. Holds coffee chats so you can come talk to him
I mean come on people. Some of these reviews are outrageous. Ehsan was an amazing professor. He REALLY cares about his students. Holds free coffee meetings, asks for feedback from students, sends long detailed emails about how you can succeed or do better. Exams are easy, just do the study guide. He was great!
He is not very accommodating of missing class even if you have a valid excuse.
Professor Asghari-Ghara is amazing. For not being a math or numbers person at all, he helped me understand the concepts. The homework is super difficult, i've spent four hours on some of them. But the exams are significantly easier. He ensures that we get a good grade and i feel he really wants you to be successful.
I literally have a 104% in his class. All you have to do is show up and he rewards you for it. He cares a lot and definitely changed based on his reviews from previous semesters. Also, 1 homework a week and the exams are the EXACT same as the practice exams.
He is a very good professor and is very clear with what he expects of you. The practice exam is literally copy and pasted to the actual exam.
I don't understand the horrible reviews. Ehsan was a caring professor who would go over anything you needed to go over however many times til you got it. There are in person quizzes taken for attendance that you have to go to class for but these are easy points to boost your grade. homeworks and tests not hard.
This professor is amazing and cares a lot about his students. He is very good at teaching and is always accessible when needed. His lectures do carry a lot of information, but if you come to class and pay attention, you can easily pass this class. Quiz participation is important, but not hard at all.
He is a great teacher who genuinely cares for his students and wants only the best for them. He will change his criteria based on what the students need. He even gives extra credit just for attending class. Only one hw per week or even every other week. TAKE HIS CLASS!
He is such an amazing instructor! He constantly asks what he can do better to help us understand the class more. He provides multiple resources, including SI sessions, coffee study hours, and office hours. The practice exams are very very VERY similar to the actual exams, so as long as you study those you'll be fine.
This guy's homework itself made you want to drop the class. His lectures were very boring and the homework gave you 2 chances to get it right and then didn't tell you the right answer. Basically made it very hard to learn the content when there's nothing consistent to rely on. Exams were easy in comparison.
This professor does pop quizzes with access codes so you show up to class. His lectures are boring and really you just wait to receive the code. He does not allow you to make up missing assignment unless you have a doctors note and is strictly follows his syllabus. He does not record lectures so you can look back at material. Avoid if you can.
Ehsan makes study guides that are very similar to the actual exams, which makes it very easy to do well on the exams overall. He is somewhat difficult to understand, but he is very caring for his students and makes accommodations for his students.
5% free extra credit for doing well on in class quizzes (3 are dropped). Another 5% if you participate in class/do extra credit questions. Practice exams basically the same as exam. Easiest stats class of my life
Ehsan teaches a very hard class so naturally there will be some bad reviews. He makes his class very passable in that the homework is graded very heavily compared to exams, which is a good thing. This class is a very quick pace so be prepared to sit near the front and pay attention. exams 1 and 2 arent bad, but exam 3 is extremely tough.
Professor Ehsan Asghari-Ghara really cares about his students. Statistics is tough, but he gives extra credit, offers many resources (office hours and coffee chats) to get help, and tells you what to expect on each exam. There are 3 exams and a final, one is dropped. If you do your homework, go to lectures, and prepare for exams you will do great.
He is a great professor, please if you have to take stats take his class. He's lectures can get a bit boring at a point but he explains everything good. He gives extra credit if you participate. Take advantage of the practice reviews and study it will help.
I was initially terrified of taking this professor due to his poor reviews. However, he's integrated past feedback and the class is pretty easy if you show up and do the homework/exam simulations. His sloppy slides and insistence upon referring any questions to his 40+ page syllabus are annoying, but overall he does a good job and it's manageable.
He cares about his student's wellbeing. Sends motivational emails and encouragment. Participate by simply answering questions and you will receive extra credit. It helps! I talked to him and he took my note taking feedback into his lectures. DO EXAM SIMULATIONS!!! One exam will be dropped. Exam 1 and 2 are easier.
I would 100% take this professor again. The tests were very similar to the practice exams, which helped me pass the course. He's a caring professor who clearly wants his students to succeed. There is a quiz in the last 10 minutes of every class and they are fairly easy if you use your resources. Take this class, it will help you not hurt you
Mr. Asghari-Ghara is not necessarily an evil professor but falls victim to a common trait among mathematics professors. He is incredibly intelligent but is not adequate at communicating his ideas. The lectures have mandatory attendance and I cannot tell you how many times I was confused about what he was talking about. you will need extra help.
You will not have a difficult time with this professor if you go to class. The homework is weighted almost as much as the exams, so if you at least get all your work done you should be fine.
You really need to be in person if you don't already know the material, and the way he has the class set up is really odd, but he is SO HARD to understand with his accent. The biggest problem for me was going in person and trying to understand what he was saying.
This Professor is incredible at presenting his the information for this class clearly and effectively. If you come to class and engage with the interactive notes and take the exam simulation this class will be a piece of cake. I can see how it would be really hard though if you are not fully engaged. He cares about his students.
Professor Ghara is honestly a really good professor, this class was pretty difficult and tutoring and office hours have saved my grade in this class, DO THE EXAM SIMULATIONS!!!! they are the only reason I passed the exams and are almost identical to the exams and helped a lot. He's super understanding and cares about his students.
This class was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. This professor tries very hard to make us do well but ultimately he is just not a good teacher. I was consistently lost and I would be in the library for countless hours still getting D's on the exams as a 4.0 student. Be prepared to listen in every lecture and DO NOT get behind.
The R.S assignments due on Saturday was actually ridiculous and so annoying. Another thing I didn't like was how he didn't post the completed notes. Yes, this encourages us to go to class, but it makes it very hard if you miss a class. One thing I liked was the structure of this class.
He is a caring teacher, and try his best, but sometimes his best is not good enough. I have spent countless hours in the tutor center because he was unable to fully communicate his ideas. Beware, he gives enough hw for 3 courses. It is A LOT of work to do well in this class.
Prof. Ghara gives a lot of homework, but those homework really helped me prepare for my exams and check whether I was left behind or not. Exams are identical to simulations. I would say that passing this class is very easy if you pay attention to the lecture and practice.
He gives a lot of HW and RS but each RS contains 1 question. Attendance isnt mandatory but doing the in-class practice helps a lot with HW & the RS. He goes through each question rly fast since I had a hybrid class and he expects everyone to have watched his lecture videos. Exam is v similar to the simulations so def do it multiple times
Great Professor. Homework and exams are weighted the same and the exams are very similar to the Exam Simulation.
I highly recommend taking this class, if you put in the work you will pass. Professor Asghari-Ghara truly cares about his students.
Professor Eshan Asghari-Ghara was one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He made every lecture structured and knew how to teach the material correctly and taught slowly. He had coffee sessions which were very helpful to go to prior to exams. There were also exam simulations given before every test to help students review the material.
Professor Ghara is very controversial but simply if you go to every single class and pay attention you will pass. Take good notes for each lecture to stay organized. His accent can make it difficult to follow but he is no doubt a good professor. Do his exam simulations and you will pass. HW is weighed the same as exams. I worked with a tutor on HW!
You HAVE to go to class to be able to do well in this course. I missed 2 classes and was lost. Prof isn't bad and he actually explains this pretty well and his grading is amazing. The weight of exams is equal to the homework so you don't have to do super well on the tests to pass. Exams are only 20 questions though making it hard to score well.
Not good
im retaking the class because i goofed off the first time, made ne realize how easy and accessible it is. he has videos for every single hw problem just with different numbers, and u have unlimited tries on exam simulation. si sessions are extremely helpful too. it is probably 1-2 hours of hw for a week.
Professor Asgharai-Ghara is great!! His lectures are very clear and thorough. He does a lot of examples and gives plenty of opportunities for questions. As far as assignments, everything is very manageable. Attendance is not mandatory but necessary to succeed in the class. The same goes for reading the textbook. You do not need to buy a textbook.
Really stubborn teacher, he can sometimes get mad from the tiniest things and lots of homework. Definitely not the best level of teaching as i took this course before in Europe but the credits did not transfer so i know how this should be taught. Overall, wont take courses with this professor again.
The professor isn't even bad and probably gonna be your best bet cuz the course gets really hard. Literally study the exam simulations to the core and you will pass. the simulations are the most helpful resource before the exams because unlike other classes, the review is almost exactly like the actual exam so you will be prepared.
I hate this professor so much, worst professor I have taken at ASU. He does not help with any concepts and is very difficult to understand. Please DO NOT take this professor.
He offered a lot of outside help, but otherwise, his lectures were just bombs of material. He would zoom through the material so quickly I had no time to process anything or learn anything. I had to do a lot of the learning myself, and I am going to receive a grade that is going to screw up my GPA. Try another professor if you can!
Here is what to do to survive Stats (All stats courses are brutal end of the day) -You are given reinforcement sets (small HW sets) identical to the practice problems during the lecture, so go to class. -Do the test simulation until you have every problem down.
The first half of the class is soooo easy but then it gets really complicated and hard to visualize. Honestly rlly hard. Would not recommend, but you probably don't have the choice. The key to the tests in memorize the practice tests, half of the test questions come directly from the practice test the other half are pretty similar. he drops a test
I recommend you do the practice exams for EVERY exam, memorize it even, that's the way to pass guaranteed. Prepare for enforcement sets, they're easy but regardless. ATTEND LECTURE it can get boring but it's helpful, it is hard to learn on your own, he doesn't record lectures & notes are fill in the blank so please attend class.
Very straightforward and easy to pass as long as you memorize the study guide... the exam is practically the exact same down to the numbers! If you took MAT211 you will get a good amount of the concepts as well. He really wants his students to succeed. I recommend tutoring for this class as it can get hard but overall I really enjoyed this class!
He was a good professor and gave good information in class. There would be times he got upset about random things but overall a great class.
Statistics is a challenging subject, so anticipate putting in significant effort rather than expecting an easy A. The homework assignments are manageable, Additionally, taking advantage of exam simulations is highly recommended, as they closely resemble the types of questions you'll encounter on the exams.
He's knowledgeable and upfront, tells you what to expect. The math isn't hard, he drops your lowest test score, attendance isn't mandatory, HW counts as much as exams, tons of the exam Qs are in the HW or exam sims. No excuse to get lower than an A imo (I got a B and barely showed up to class). It is a lot of information though, so be prepped!
Since it is a mandatory class I will say I'm glad hes extremely fair. But don't fall behind at all because catching up is nearly impossible. Repetition matters a lot for these concepts and trying to learn everything in fat chunks is going to fail you. I first got a D and retook the class and ended with an A. His office hours are really helpful.
He is very kind and you can tell he really cares for his students. Lots of information in this class and is extremely tough to do well if you are missing class. If you show up and do your homework, you'll do just fine in his class!
Pretty material heavy and the class moves very fast. Attendance is not mandatory but I would not suggest skipping classes because it is pretty easy to fall behind. DO THE EXAM SIMULATIONS... 75% of the test questions are 'similar' to the simulations ;) ;) so learn them. Professor wants you to succeed, good guy.
This class has quite a bit of homework. He is accessible outside of class. Please take the EXAM SIMULATIONS it is exactly like the exams just different numbers. Overall, great professor, he really wants everyone to pass. He drops the lowest exam score. Watch out for due dates!
The one day out the week I had to go to his class I would learn nothing. Instead he would do iclicker questions which was the attendance and would take a quiz for the whole class period. Pretty much taught myself everything which already sucks because this was a hard course with heavy material.
Stats is HARD course but Ehsan was a great professor. I took this class with a different professor and failed it and so i decided to retake and I am glad I did. He is very helpful. Drops the lowest exam, drops two lowest homework and quiz scores also offers extra credit. He makes sure to provide feedback and offers resources to help his students.
Fantastic class!! amazing professor with super reasonable policies. Really wants you to succeed. helps you in every way. super accessible. i ahd no interest in stats, it was a requirement, but this class made me genuinely interested and equipped me with so many skills. great experience overall.
He's truly a good guy. He wants his students to succeed and makes sure you have everything you need to do that. I don't like him very much as a lecturer tho. He's pretty boring and overall I think makes the topics more complicated. I basically taught myself everything which brought me down a letter grade. I'd take him again, chill dude.
Took his 221 class twice. Failed the first time because exams are worth 60% of your grade. I got 90-100% on all homework assignments and quizzes. If you are a bad test taker, do not take his class. I had to hire a private tutor for the 2nd time I took the class. My tutor was floored at how difficult this class is for an intro business stats class.
People giving this guy a bad rating truly don't know what they're talking about. Ehsan will probably go down in history as my favorite university professor out of my entire undergrad experience. He cares and works with his students, makes changes to his policies if he thinks something isn't fair, and overall teaches extremely well. Take his class!
he will release HW at 7am before the lecture due the following night which makes it hard to plan hws. also dont get sick and miss a lecture, I missed the 2nd exam and the make-up is a day after the 3rd exam and then I have a final 4 days later. also calls out students in front of entire class for talking. also the SI is very hard to understand.
Very challenging and demanding
Horrible teacher only read slides posted like 10 homework assignments halfway through the week and made them due next day. doesn't care about disabilities and barely teaches i learned nothing and attended every class 0/10
He complained a lot and wasn't considering, and he is 75% deaf but will pretend he isn't. Was surprised when I would say I need help or am confused.
this professor is very kind, he offered a good amount of extra credit and really tried to make sure that his students understood. lectures are not mandatory but he only posts partial notes so going to class is really important. if you pay attention in class i swear the class is not that hard, i finished with over 100%.
Dude is chill af, he let me use my phone calculator when I forgot my ti84 to the exam but he also didn't round my 96.94 to an A+ but there is extra credit so I get it
Intelligent professor, lectures were boring and the notes were hard to follow. Every class is followed by reinforcement sets plus homework. 3 exams and a final but one is dropped. Not too difficult but I feel like I had to teach myself a lot. He definitely cares a lot though, sweet guy but just not great at effectively communicating.
I tried to go to class, however, his lectures were very boring. I took AP stats in high school so I just stopped showing up except for exams. Just do the homework and study the exams simulations and you will get an easy passing grade. He does not curve or round up grades so go to class for extra credit.
Essentailly his motto is if you have any issues with the class, drop it and take another class. Interestingly , there's only a few courses even on this subject to choose from. Pretty disgusting that he defends any problem with him or the course with "take another class" or "this class isn't for you". He's not teaching, your watching videos.
Had him last semester for micro and he was great, not sure what demon possessed him over winter break cause I walked into his class this semester and he was super rude. The entire class is now one giant iclicker quiz, for the whole 75 minutes. This class would be hell to skip, since you basically miss a quiz whenever you're not in class.
Challenging course, but the professor genuinely wants you to succeed. Attend class, do the exam simulations, and consider using unstuck study for efficient study prep. With effort, you can do well in this stats class.
Genuinely one of the worst professors in all of ASU. Changed his test policies (which were on the syllabus) AFTER the first exam so students can't even drop the class anymore. His reasoning behind it is comical. Because he's unable to do his job, he reverts to screwing over students instead of adapting his teaching style. Doesn't deserve to teach.
Dude keeps changing his testing policy attendance is mandatory but you probably will get bored or just don't know what he is talking about. He loves to tell you about making the learning environment fair and stuff which I really just want to pass the class instead of listening to all that nonsense.
I don't understand the other half of the bad reviews this professor even has. I was nervous signing up for this course due to that reason. Professor is not even that bad at all. Although ECN221 is a challenging course, just put in the effort in this course, take advantages of all the resources that are offered, and you will succeed in this class.
I dont think he even wants to teach as he reads through the slides his whole lecture , I had to teach myself everything. 60% of the grade are tests and 10% was attendance. He is super rude and dont expect to learn anything from the class, just memorize the stuff and the formulaes.
Still in the course, and its a rough course if you want at least a B. Very test heavy, and the averages for the two tests so far are: Test 1: 66.5%... Test 2: 44%... No curves, no good resources to use, lecture skills are horrible, classes mandatory and useless. Advice: Find out what he is attempting to "teach" and figure out how to do it yourself.
I took this as a hybrid. I read the textbook summaries at the end of the chapter, did the homework & only ever showed up for the tests. If you can do well on the exam simulator then you will do well in the class. I didn't enjoy his teaching but this is an easy class.
Worst professor at asu.
He didn't teach anything in his class and only does practice problems in class which he gives you no time to solve or answer the iclickr. He also doesn't curve despite the class average on every single test being below a 60% the semester i took his course. He is very much a do it yourself and it's not my problem if you fail professor.
Very difficult to reach out to when help is needed. His course policies are extremely tough and does not show even the slightest bit of compassion for his students. I wouldn't recommend him. 0/10
All ASU economics professors can not teach, but this professor is among the worst. He does not care. I did the hybrid class and instead of teaching, he did quizzes one those days. Beware of the stuff he puts in his syllabus, its ridiculous and sneaky. The average is failing, that is not all on the students, utterly ridiculous - a dean student
I saw someone say on here that they learned going to office hours. Not everyone can go to his office hours, some of us have jobs and other responsibilities. Still, office hours or not, you should be able to learn IN class.
Easily one of the worst experiences I have had yet in ASU. Mid semester changed up the syllabus to where exams were NOWHERE near alike to exam sims. Just does iclicker quizzes during class time and the "lectures" are all provided online. Nothing is taught in class and has the worst EC opportunities. DO yourself a favor and dont take the class.
He does not teach in class, only does IClicker quizzes which are 10% of your grade. Also claims that the exam simulations are very similar to the actual exam, but other than the first one they aren't. The average grade on every exam was a 60% or lower. I only attended a handful of classes and pulled out a mid C though, so It's manageable.
As a hybrid course, the online videos teach the actual material. He did minimal actual teaching, as every in-person class was always an i-clicker quiz the whole time. He only teaches students who use office hours. The exam simulators barely reflect the material on the exam, so good luck studying. It would've been better to take it fully online.
Challenging course but decent professor. Sometimes has a short temper and punishes the class a whole instead of one student. Homework all online and you can use any outside resource to help. Exams are in person and multiple choice, but he drops the lowest exam and homework. Overall a good pick, and with decent effort you can get a good grade.
Does not care about students, does not read emails, and does not respond in a timely matter. Teachers who don't support and respect their students should not be teachers.
Terrible Professor, doesn't care about the learning of students. All the teaching is done through pre-recorded videos, and only quizzes are done in class.
Long list of issues but to name a few: Very strict, no extra credit, practice exams are for a grade, excel data and videos are from 2016 so it makes work on macs now very confusing, and he wants you to get a $160 textbook for a 6 week class. Tries to make himself sound nice by dropping an exam and 2 hw's but every normal teacher does that so
His class was a lot of work in the sense of watching the videos. But I enjoyed his office hours for extra credit! It saved my grade bc each point is a percentage it raises and he gave me extra points for explaining the problems well. The exams were the same questions as the practice we did in class so it was pretty easy.
Awful professor does not make himself clear does not know how to teach, too strict does not make himself clear.
Currently taking the class. Feels like more than half the time, I am having to use other resources outside of class because the ones we are given are lacking in essential items such as practice problems or examples. Although he provides a Exam Simulation, he stated it is "only 20% similar to the exam." Not sure what the reasoning behind that is.
by far the worst professor I've ever had. Only relies on his lecture notes which are WAY too long and can be way shorter and more concise. During his 1 day of class it's basically a repeat of his lecture video but in an hour long time frame + a quizz. Good luck trying to reach out about anything too.
Kind of hard to understand their accent; bad hand writing (doesnt use powerpoint slide shows for their lectures). Take another professor that will actually explain the material.
I am taking him right now and honestly this has got to be the worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach and can barely understand him. His exams are harder than they should be and he makes the material seem so much more confusing than it has to be. Studying for his exams is nearly impossible and the exam sims are not like the test at all.
Do yourselves a favour and do not take his class !
I haven't had to teach myself a class in a long time until I took this professor. He does not explain topics well and moves incredibly fast during classes. If I had to describe his teaching style I would say that its like watching someone with extreme ADHD trying to get through a topic a day. Overall Worst prof. I've had- DO NOT take this class.
Easily one of the worst professors I have ever had. I took him for both ECN courses. Hard to understand and is not clear with any of the material. I sometimes do not even know how the homework connects to what he talks about in class. First tests are very similar to simulations he gives to study with. After that they are not that similar. DONT TAKE
Please take any other professor, this dude doesnt know how to teach and the exams are way harder than they should be. Exams rarely follow his lectures or 'exam simulations' he provides.
He gets a bad reputation because of how good of a teacher he actually is. He has no BS tolerance and goes to class to teach and leave. He does care about his students but is strictly there for business. He gets the point across clear and if you miss lecture he does not care but you WILL suffer the consequences on the test.
I wouldn't wear my seatbelt on my way to class... Hope this helps!
Anyone reading this, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He will have you in the worst mental state of your life. You will be contemplating your whole life decisions while studying for the exams! Even if you study DAYS before the exam, you will still fail!
he was an ok professor. 3 midterms + final but ur lowest grade is dropped. lectures were never engaging so you have to kind of teach the material to yourself which sucks. my advice would be to watch all the SI videos as well as the practice videos on canvas, they helped a lot. i wouldn't recommend him as a teacher though.
Hardly understand the low rating on here when he gives out 9% addition onto final grade as extra creds, automatically drop 5 exam questions + lowest exam, and spell out the basics slowly every time he teaches and do example problems. No attendance nor i-clicker required but you will NOT pass skipping classes. Homework sets are harder than the tests
His class is super hard because he is awful at explaining things. The grading policy isnt bad at all, but that doesn't even matter if you have to spend all of your time getting outside help. Just take a different professor he doesn't know how to teach.
He gives out a ton of extra credit, outside help, and a formula sheet for tests. He's also willing to implement feedback if it truly helps the class. There's no required attendance but you really should attend if you want a decent grade. He also assigns a lot of outside work but it's pretty quick so long as you take notes and pay attention.
He gave every opportunity for students to do well. I'd guess people rating him poorly just didn't put in the work. He goes over questions that are on the test during class, there is some self-guiding outside of class since it's hybrid, but if you keep up w/the homework, you should do just fine. IClicker is extra credit which boosted by grade 5%.
Don't have to show up but full slides aren't posted... he can come off as rude from time to time.
I did NOT like this man. he always had an attitude in his lecture halls and would give u dirty looks and accuse ppl of cheating. attendance is optional so i never showed up and just taught myself content and did decent on exams (4 total). if you're trying to actually learn in class, he's not the one ! he always in a bad mood and taking it out on us
