Really good teacher. Test are kind of hard, but if you read your book, pay attention/take notes, you should be okay. If it is still difficult, then go to SI. It really does help.

Dr. Achorn is awesome! True, her class is a little difficult, but her lectures make up for all of that! If you are taking the class just to fulfill your credits, i would suggest Dr. Achorn. And 100 of the questions on the final are word for word from the study guide!

Although the material covered in the class was difficult, Achorn made learning it interesting and fun.

I absolutely loved this class. She is an awesome teacher who really knows her subject. Go to class, take notes and use the study guide and your guarenteed a B. I never read the book once and managed to get and A.

her tests are really hard! I hear its her first time teaching abnormal psych. Its the hardest psych class I have ever taken. She is nice and all...but i would not recommend her....it looks like this class is going to hurt my gpa.

her lectures are really good and she is very interesting, but all she has for grades are test, no matter how hard i study for her test i can never get a decent grade, and no matter how good her lectures are it wont help you get a good grade.

The material for this class was tough for me. But Dr. Achorn is an amazing teacher. She is ALWAYS willing to help you AND her lectures on Statistics deal with REAL world examples. Furthermore she uses terminology you can understand. She really WANTS her students to succeed.

Very nice and funny professor. I loved her class! It was always so interesting! She gives great examples! But yes it is true, her tests are hard! Also you have to read a lot from the textbook and if you get behind on a couple of chapters youre a goner

I would study, study, study, attend class, take notes, read the book and I felt so stressed before every exam, they are somewhat difficult. She is funny though, I would recommend this class but expect to really keep up!

She is fabulous! She cares about her students (what a concept)!Her classes is by no means easy because she wants you to learn, but if you do the work, attend class, and visit her in her office (which is fun, and she is nice and very helpful) then you can easily make an A. I loved her! I will take her anytime she teaches a class I need!

She is a very interesting person and tried to keep the lessons fun. She is a very happy person which is nice to be around. Reading and studying are very important and you should ALWAYS ATTEND CLASS! Moderately difficult, but an A is possible.

Professor presents info easily and everything is on the slides, but you have to go to class b/c prof doesn't use webct. Tests however are VERY hard. You think you know the slides but questions on test are confusing and specific. I did learn a lot, just didn't get what i expected on the test, but managed to pull a B

Dr. Achorn is awesome! She's funny and really gets you into what the class is all about. Be ready for her fun sotires in relevance to the lectures.

Dr. Achorn gets her students very involved during lectures and makes it easy for you to be enthusiastic. Her class is a blast, it's not unusual for the entire classroom to break out into laughter. Don't expect not to study for tests though. She's fun, zany, and has a real passion for what she teaches which makes her class an awesome experience!

Great teacher! Even though the tests were hard...I still came to her class everyday because I didn't want to miss out on the lectures! It's a blast in that class! She's very passionate about what she teaches. Best class ever!

I highly reccomend taking proffesor Achorn for statistics. The material is dificult but she gives you everything you need to know (formula sheets, great notes, help when needed)She uses real world examples to help students understand concepts. The tests are multiple choice and a couple 1 or 2 problems.TAKE HER..SHES MAAAAAAAD COOL! :)

I wish every professor was like Dr. Achorn. She's really warm and helpful-extremely easy to talk to. She answers all questions & repeats important notes. I STRONGLY advise going to class! Classes are short and informative-you will feel behind if you dont go. Information is organized to a T. You only need the book for the tables in the back!

I really enjoyed Dr. Achorn for Statistics. It was a hard course for me but she got me through it. Her pace is very fast but I found that it helped me to up my own pace in working the operations - which is important in finishing your tests in time. I am hoping to get her for Experimental and I recommend her to anyone!

THIS TEACHER ROCKS! Sure her tests are hard because they're all about application but that proves you actually understand it. I bombed the first test but then I got her style and did better. SO FUNNY! Never bored in her class at all and I had it right after lunch! Uses WebCT for announcements and checks it everyday. Take her if at all possible!

Awesome professor! i had the class at 8 in the morning and i know lectures can be boring but i looooved hers. shes really good at interacting with the class. it is hard not going to lie, but study her notes, take good notes, read the text book and definitely definitely go to SI!!! i know its a lot but it will make it easier

Dr Achorn is a very good instructor. It is mandatory to attend class as missing one class will put you behind for weeks. Pay very close attention to the material because her Exams are multiple (tricky) choice and a few computations. Over all she's great!

She was my very first instructor at UTSA and she made a great impression for the school. She was WONDERFUL and although test sometimes difficult, this was a great class with a fun and helpful instructor. Definitely recommend this teacher :)

Dr. Achorn was really great for statistics, and I was really afraid of this class before I took it. She's really good at explaining things, very willing to help, and an overall great teacher. Not to mention her great sense of humor! You will learn a lot from her!!

its quite simple really...you want an A,read the book and do the study guide, the lectures can only go so far, the problem for students is that its time consuming...the final is incredibly easy and meant to boost your grade by an entire letter grade

She makes the class very interesting and keeps your attention. Attendance is NOT mandatory but she does give extra points at the end for the days you went, but if you miss a day, you might be thrown off. Her tests I found a bit challenging, it's all application. I didn't read or study, but I did go to SI everyday and got an A

Her tests are tricky. The class is an easy B, but its harder to make an A. If you want an easy A then take Perry.

I took this professor for Stats. The class itself is very difficult as are her tests. She is clear during lecture, but sometimes not very willing to help students. I studied a lot and pulled off a B. This is not a course to take if you don't want to work hard.

She is tough but a great teacher. If you want to learn, take her. If youre not a psych major then dont. Tests are tough. She will test to see who knows their stuff. Be prepared to attend class!

Stats is a very difficult class but she had a clear way of explaining it. take it in the summer and you will do fine. Study hard. she will give a problems day, the day before the test. make sure you do the work, and go see her after class if you dont understand. Thats what I did and I got a B.

Good teacher. The material is hard and reading-intensive, but that isn't really her fault. Taking psych surveys is a mandatory part of the course, yet teaches nothing - I didn't like that. I prefer to volunteer for these things, not to be coerced. She's an okay teacher, though.

Excellent professor! The class requires a lot of reading, but she is very helpful in clarifying any questions and concerns. Extra credit is given for attendance. Relates real life stories to the material and really exposes who she is. She is very funny. Almost made me change my major to psychology because I enjoyed her class so much!

Well, I have had Prof. Achorn for 3 different classes. She is a great instructor, but she really wants you to get all you can out of her classes. Never boring, but you really need to be in class, and read everything, and study a lot. You will learn, and you can get a good grade, it's really up to you. I enjoyed all of her classes.

facts from someone who hasnt taken her before: lots of pop quizes 3 test (hard but doable)a main project on top of everything else (propoasal) u would think she would lighten up the course work. Not approchable, hard to get a hold of,can at times come off as a non hearted person because you earn your grade with numbers rather than effort.Good luck!

This class was Experimental Psychology. Be prepared to do statistics all over again. If you do the study guide online (the professor provides on the syllables) you will be fine. Take good notes on the definitions. If you missed them look them up on the book. I highly recommend you memorize those terms and be ready to write them out for on the test.

It has been several years since I have had Professor Achorn, but she is the best professor I have ever had.I took Intro to Psyc with her, looking for an interesting, but easy A class . It is not an easy at AT ALL but if you truly honestly want to know your material then i would highly suggest her class. After her class I changed my major to Psyc.

Overall a great professor, she gives extra credit for coming to class and her lectures are interesting. She really knows what she is talking about and is very engaging. Overall the class isn't too hard if you give plenty of effort, the book's authors are also interesting and have some funny jokes. I would recommend this class to anyone.

Had Achorn for Developmental Psych. Overall great professor. Very informative lectures. Try to write down as much as she says and definitely read the book. Test seem unfairly written--big complaint from majority of class. Taking good lecture notes, reading the book, and putting in full effort will help get you an A!

i took this intro psych class and was surpirsed that the teacher actually cared about what she taught@ she is a very good teacher but her tests are extremely challeneging. be prepared to do alot of reading/studying for this class. She does drop the lowest test grade and give bonuses out to those who attend class.

Achorn isn't the easiest teacher at UTSA, that's for sure. I studied SO hard and ended up with a B, which I was extremely thankful for. Her exams are about application, don't just know vocab words, but learn how to apply the text and lectures to real situations. She's a great professor and her lectures are very interesting.

Prof. Achorn is a great professor. She comes to class everyday with a smile on her face. She has interesting stories to go along with her lectures. If you study and go to SI you'll do fine. Definitely buy the study guide because the final exam is 100% from that. I would recommend taking this class with her. She's one of my favorite professors.

So far one of the best professors I've had, very clear in your lectures, her test can be very tricky and very long questions (in test) so time management is very important during test. Gives out extra credit random days. Knows what she is talking about..Take her if you want to learn, don't if want easy A.

she explains the material very well. she always has interesting examples that really help with learning the material. if you go to class, take notes, and read the book you'll do great!! Her tests aren't the easiest in the world but she makes sure that there are more than enough resources for you to do well in her class. i would take her again!!!!

Very knowledgeable professor. Eight pop quizzes throughout semester, no make-ups. Easy class if you read text, pay attention in lecture, and study...go figure!

Dr. Achorn is awesome! She's a lot of fun and I love her sense of humor. You can really tell she is amazingly intelligent, and she explains things more clearly than the book does. She gives extra credit for attendence so make sure you go to class! Overall her tests are pretty easy as long as you read and take notes during class!

I loved this class but that was not the general concensus of the rest of class. Experimental Psych is pretty much the gateway class-you need it for all future upper division psy courses. Its alot of work but she was always willing to offer help outside of class if needed. I would take her again.

she really knows her stuff. this professor isn't afraid to test your comprehension of the material, i've had her for three classes and i've loved every single one and i've gotten two A's and a C. she is so helpful outside of class and notices who seeks her assistance. take her and you will learn a lot for sure.

I had no interest in psych prior to this class but I immediately became obsessed with it as soon as I attended her classes. Dr. Achorn is hilarious & she makes her lectures very interesting & easy to understand. She's just a really cool professor & she entertains all questions. So speak up she wants to help everyone! Definitely take her if you can.

Dr. Achorn is by far the best professor I've ever had. She is clear, her lectures are NEVER boring, she seems to enjoy her job. She makes eye contact with everyone and will get to know you like you are a friend. Read the book, BUY THE STUDY GUIDE, and attend class because she gives random attendance points. Took Dr. Achorn for Summer I. I missed 3 days so it was a bit challenging. But after the 2nd test, I didn't miss any more classes, and what do you know...everything clicked and I aced the final exam! Attend class, use your textbooks to practice more, take good notes, and utilize the help she offers during her office hours.

Dr. Achorn is very knowledgeable about Psych Stats. Her lectures are very understandable and she will gladly answer your questions, although sometimes she sounds as if she's speaking to a child. But I honestly think that's just how she speaks, I don't think it's a personal hit towards anyone. Her class is great though!

She is definitely the best professor I had at Utsa (transferring to Ut). She is a tough professor but if you take good notes, read whats recommended and pay attention you'll be fine. Can appear cold and codescending at times. She knows her stuff, though. The class is not impossible, make sure to study rigoursly for exams and attend class daily as she has pop quizzes. The statistics part of the class wasn't that bad. You will leave her class learning a lot -- take her. Just know it is a tough course and you will work hard.

I had a great experience taking Experimental Psych Lecture with Dr. Achorn. At the beginning of the year she tells you exactly what you need to do in order to succeed -- just listen to her and you will get a good grade. Read the book. It really supplements her lectures. Go to class, can't stress that enough. There was a scheduling conflict for me so I could not attend class very often but when I did, she was very informative! She seems very helpful when answering questions. Yes it's hard but she prepares you VERY well for Experimental. You learn a lot. Read the chapter before class to follow along better.

Achorn is approachable & a great person; workd in groups answering/discussing h/o questions - NO LECTURE FROM PROF; READ!-READ!-READ! book - pay attn to book study findings & terminology given on h/o questions; 2 essay exams (answer 4 of 8); 1 6-8 pg. paper; is moderately easy just read & review questions; attendance is a must/graded.

I love psychology and I got a C but I really slacked...bad semester for differnet reasons. there is a lot of reading. If you study consistently and many hours I'm sure you can get a B.

Stats was difficult. There was a lot of information to process, but she was there to help if you needed it. You need to read and practice, practice, practice.

She is such a good teacher. Its a very difficult class packed full of information but she makes it fun and interesting. You have 5 tests, the final, 4 papers that are only a page long and you only have to do three of them, SONA studies, and she does attendance extra credit. If you go to class and STUDY STUDY STUDY, you'll be fine

Dr. Achorn is a great teacher. As long as you attend class regularly you will do fine. Visiting her office for workbook answers is a must. The book is used mostly for your own reference. In order to do well on the tests you must take good notes and study. Study key terms in lecture notes and know details about formulas and strategies.

You will gain knowledge that will be so helpful for experimental (you will ahead of other students that didn't take her). She always does a great review in detail as class starts then proceeds *Most helpful. Shows the flow from beginning to end! HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!

Take her for STATS! The content itself is difficult so do not miss any classes. Go to the tutor lab, SI sessions, and complete the workbook. The exams are hard so you must study. Now that I'm in experimental I appreciate the knowledge I gained from her class. She is always available for questions and cares for her students.

This class is very interesting and she really knows her stuff and always seems excited to teach. One thing I really hated was how hard the tests were, LOTS OF STUDYING is required to know the material shes looking for. She also gives extra credit for attendance sometimes.

Dr. Achorn is an excellent teacher to take Experimental Psych with. If you care about your education (i.e. you read your book, show up to class, ask questions and study) then this is the class for you. My strong recommendation would be to use the supplemental online study guide for the book as it really helped me. (might change the book soon)

Remembers names and faces! You will need to study and think critically. She helps those who attend with class activities and pop quizzes, so that your final grade isn't solely dependent on test scores. If there is a concept not understood very well make sure to visit her office, she makes sure you comprehend. I recommend her to everyone

In the start I was worried about this class, but it was EASILY my favorite. I was really into the lectures, and she did a good job explaining and relating it to real life. I did read and take a ton of notes though, but it was worth it because I made an A and got really into psych and its not even my major. DO THE MODULES, read, and you'll do great

Dr. Achorn is a good teacher. She will help you with anything you don't understand and stick by your side until you get it. But I felt like her tests were different from what the lectures. There are 4 tests, an optional final, pop quizzes, and random group activities (so attendance is a must). Showing up will help you in the long run.

This class may seem overwhelming at first, but it ends up not being so bad. To be successful you need to do the workbook pages, write good notes, read the chapters in the book, and PRACTICE!

Professor Achorn's Stats class is tough. She is tough, right now I am on the fence between passing and failing the class, however she is there to help and if I pass these next two tests I will be alright. She is a tough grader her tests are multiple choice and then problems at the end. I know people who do good, and people who do bad.

Dr. Achorn is helpful in clearing up information you may not understand. Read the book! The PowerPoints will not be enough to get a decent grade on her tests. You must study and try to attend class. I recommend taking her!

I really enjoyed Professor Achorn stats class. Her lectures were always clear and in the beginning she would always refresh us on what we learned in the previous class. I liked her attitude and her real world examples. Write down everything she writes and study moderately and it will be an easy A.

She'll meet you 50 50. She is always available through email and especially office hours. Go talk to her! The material is difficult but she guides you along the way, you have to try though. She will not baby you, but if you want to learn she will do all she can to help. Best professor I've had and a kind soul. Funny and can definitely teach!

You can expect homework (not the graded variety, but you'll definitely want to PRACTICE what you learned in class). She gives you - for free :) - a workbook that, I swear, is the difference between passing and failing. Use it! Go to her office! Do not miss class! (If I had not had to miss so much, I'm certain I'd have had an A.). I loved her.

I LOVE Professor Achorn, she is the main reason why I did so good in Experimental Lab. My advice to anyone needing to take this class is- TAKE HER. She is an excellent professor, explains things so clearly, you hardly need the book, I don't think I touched mine all semester. She puts the powerpoints on blackboard, and is always there for us!!

She is pop quiz heavy and assigns collaborative in-class assignments. She gives many opportunities for students to ask questions and also reminds students of her office hours. In my course, she administered two-part exams: The first part is multiple choice and the second one is a written one.

This class isn't the easiest subject, but Dr. Achorn is a great teacher! She helps you as long as you just ask. She gives problems days which is a great help, because it is a mini version of the test. I hate math but this is honestly one of my favorite classes this semester.

This is my second class with Achorn because she a great professor. This class is well taught by her but i would recommend going since we pop quizzes and assignments for extra grades besides exams. It requires you to read the textbook and attend lecture but over all she's a good professor who is always willing to help if you are struggling.

She does give pop quizzes and group work which is for a grade so going to class is pretty crucial. If you mess up on an exam don't freak because she has an optional exam :)

She is really energetic and engaged, which helps if statistics is something you struggle with. She takes attendance each class and uses that to decide whether or not she'll give you extra credit. All tests, no assignments. She gives you a workbook to practice problems on your own time. Uses the textbook pretty much only for the tables in the back.

She has random pop quizzes and in class assignments so if you miss a day and miss one of those assignments/quizzes you won't get credit. She is an overall great professor though & cares about her students. I would take her again if I could!

Dr. Achorn is amazing! I loved her statistics class, it was nothing like I expected (in a good way). It has been so helpful in the last year and a half. Without her, I never would have been able to understand what I was doing for the experimental classes! At least not at the level I did! I highly recommend her stats class.

All it comes down to with Dr. Achorn is whether or not youre willing to work hard. Every class Ive had with her had me racking my brain but I learned a lot from her. Shes very intelligent and always willing to help. You gotta work for an A in her class but its well worth it in the end.

Take exp psy with Dr. Achorn! Half of your grade in this class is just showing up. She has in class pop quizzes, activities and xtra credit. Quizzes need to be studied for but activities & ex credit are completion! my 1st 2 exam grades were bad and I still passed with a B because of activities & EC! Only mistake I made was taking this class at 8 am

A TOUGH class that requires major self-discipline, but if you study hard you'll do well. Book is technically optional, but definitely check it out from the library to help you. Her lectures are FULL of info and its easy to miss points (work with your classmates)! Grades are from tests only. Attend SI sessions, read the book, ask lots of questions.

Dr. Achorn is one of the best stats professor at UTSA. She is a little rude but overall nice. You have to go to every class and doing her handouts really help you get a good grade. She has no homework or textbook

I love Dr. Achorn. She is difficult but if you do what she says (practice/homework) you'll get good grades and learn a lot. You have to go to class, she has pop quizzes and group assignments randomly. This class is hard and she's not easy but you really do learn.

Professor Achorn is amazing!! Great lectures, and although they aren't mandatory, if your attendance is almost perfect, she does "extra credit" for final grades. Lectures are very helpful to attend and she's very clear with her information. I wish I could have finished the semester in person, but I loved what I did get from it.

Graded by 15 short quizzes. Lectures are uploaded for each topic, and she will also have a zoom biweekly discussion over the previous lectures. She's very kind and will gladly help with any issues with the this course or other psychology courses in her office hours. She also offers extra credit for evaluations and for exceeding attendance.

I had her for stats and she was really nice and helpful. There were no exams, all we had to do was take the chapter quizzes. You need to attend lecture, and watch the videos or else you will be really confused on what to do.

Thought I would'nt like her based on others reviews but she turned out to be fine. I see that people complain about the slides, but they explain the content really well. When not explained well she will happily answer and/or offer a real world example. The quizzes make you think and apply what you learned, but they are pretty average on difficulty.
