This is an easy course: 4 multiple choice tests, one short paper. She puts PowerPoints on the web and then reads them in class. Very cheeful and happy to answer any questions. She tells you what will be on each test. Very straight-forward.
For Psych of women class, she is extremely enthusiastic about the material. Sweet, kind lady. Exams are essay but they are OPEN BOOK & OPEN NOTE (very easy!). Very interesting class. Actually look forward to going to class!
take this class! it's so easy, and she is so nice! very smart lady! easy easy easy tests easy A!!!!
Never in her office during her office hours. The LAZYEST teacher ever. She uses the powerpoints given to her by the book company, which is basically word for word. She skips many slides because the company has too many slides ex: 100 just for one section
This class is so boring, she reads the Powerpoints that came with the book word for word and they are online so there is really no reason to go to class, all in all she doesn't really teach
Easy enough class to pass but kinda pointless to go to class. She uses slides that the book company gives her and you can just read the book to get the same information. For exams just use the study guide she gives and read the book.
she's a smart person- i'm glad that exams aren't the biggest focus, just wants everyone to learn about women (isn't that the point?). yea, u don't have to go to class but its no fun b/c the discussion can be interesting. read the text- its cool.
She is very lazy. I didn't get the "smart" impression from her. She seems to just use the powerpoints from the book company. She said that stuff wouldn't be on the exams and then there was a whole section on it. This happened on EVERY exam.Nice
VERY UNDERSTANDING AND VERY WILLING TO HELP
Good teacher, go to all the lecture, might be a bit boring sometimes, but go anyway, you will learn a lot. Read the book, it's easy to do well in this class, but you have to do the work and read the book. Very nice person and very understanding.
I never had any problems with her. This class is a definite easy A.
READ THE BOOK. the tests are the hardest part of this class, so make sure you study everything. if you did good memorizing junk like names and definitions, you'll be alright. NOT a bs class.
I don't know why people complain about Mrs. O'Brien. If you go to class and follow along with the reading, you'll have absolutely no problem. This isn't a hard class. She's clear and there's not that much information.

She's just like any other lecturer, BORING!!! There's alot of material and her lectures come directly from the publishers of the book. Take the optional Pre & Post tests and optional chapter quizes to see right answers. Her online quizes and 1/3 of her tests questions come directly from those.
A very nice and understanding person. Definitely an easy A. Just do all the reading and the online chapter tests and quizzes. Exams arent the main focus, learning is.
She is a very helpful teacher who uses material straight from the book and online quizzes. If you take all the practice tests, you don't even have to read the chapter. Sometimes lecture is boring but the movies she plays are hysterical.
Boring/pointless lectures, goes off on tangents-confusing, unclear about test material- always a suprise! Tries to add last minute projects/papers- last week of class! CLOSED-MINDED and BIASED! I really regret taking her class- it is a waste of time and energy!
The tests/exams are very difficult and detailed even with notes and the textbook. If you read, you can still fail. EVERYTHING detail is on the exam, no study guide. I would NOT recommand her at upper level courses. You might learn a lot from her BUT have a hard time passing the course. GOOD LUCK!
One of the most interesting classes I ever took. She wants it to be an active learning class and it is for the most part. Open note and book exams just because she wants you to do well. Projects are not hard at all. (Powerpoint presentation about article)
Her 100 course is straight forward, easy A if you have good study skills. Seems rather biased against evolutionary psych.
Really, REALLY easy class. You only have to read the slides and most of the stuff on the test is from the practice exams online. Easy A, but class can get excruciatingly boring sometimes. It's an intro class, so don't expect any indepth stuff (at all). She does seem to lean towards humanist psych.
Easy class... all the exam questions come straight from the online book you have to buy. put in a couple hrs studying b4 each test and you are good to go.
Never went to a class and still passed! She is pretty nice but not leaneant about make-ups or late stuff. The tests are a little hard but just study the online guides.
The class was very interesting, and not hard, but she is disorganized, and tends to go off on tangents
The class was long and kinda boring cause she used A LOT of Power Point slides. Like, 150 for each exam. Very hard to study from that, imo. Exams were multiple choice though with bonuses and there were online quizzes that we could do on our own time (an easy way to make 10 points...AND if you forgot about them she'll let everyone redo them at the end of the semester!)
Decent teacher. Uses lots of powerpoints and videos. Rather challenging tests, but they are from the book company and most of them are on the online component anyway so you can study them before taking test. Boosts grade if you spend a lot of time online and if you sit in the front row. I recommend her.
needs to open eyes more

this class is the only psych class that doesnt grade on quizzes..the grades are based on three exams, on five chapters EACH. which is why just about half the class failed. my advice: STAY. AWAY.
Very awesome lady, she knwos her stuff and keeps class interesting, uses lots of power points and videos, her tests are fairly challanging but she does let you use your books and notes for part of it! very interesting class highly reccommendable
Great professor. Really wants her students to do well and goes out of her way to assist those who need help. Classes are mostly powerpoints, which can be found online. Also uses videos in class, which are nice because they break up monotony. Online quizzes are part of grade and helpful. Go to class and read, get an A. Slack off and get a B.
If you are thinking "hey this is an introductory course so I won't have to do crap but still get an A" but you are sadly mistaken. Since this is a 4 cred class, you have to put a lot of effort into getting an A. She knows what she's talking about, but the class itself is hard. It wasn't worth taking in my opinion, but I still got my A.
This class was great, not to mention easy if you read the text and do the labs. Tests are moderately difficult, but she gives a study guide and curves. Plus she offers extra credit for GOING to class and participating in research studies.
A good professor with fair tests (but you will need to study).
Online powerpoint notes that are gone over in class.
I'm a psychology major and I hated this class. The notes are available online, she makes you do online quizzes. Her tests are multiple choice. There's no point in going to the lecture. If you want to learn anything not covered in high school psych, don't take this class
it was an easy class....very dull. reading thebook got you through it but she was nice, so. extra credit exists!
Interesting information and she just wants you to learn something. Not big on memorization of facts-allows a lot of open book and take home because she knows whats really important. She wants you to take somethin away from the class, other than just a grade. Definitely recommend class for psych and education majors
way i got an A: read the book, did the online stuff, night before the exam i redid each online quiz from those chapters, a bunch of the questions were almost verbatim from there...boring as hell lectures though, makes u want to sleep, attendance isnt mandatory, but there r occasional worksheets that count as participation points
While attendance isn't mandatory, she does hand out worksheets for participation points. She really likes the online exams, and you have to do 3 for each chapter. All of her powerpoints are online. She taught directly from the book. Very easy to get an A or a B if you did the online work.
The quizes help prepare for exam but be careful. She changes the wording around. Lectures are BORING!
Great, Great, Great Professor, and little on the feminist side, but kind of motherly in a way...She is cool, and can teach, people say the lectures are boring, but she knows how to teach..she gives you these hard online quizzes but they help you for the Test...I am now a Psychology Minor Because of her!!
she is ok
She was cool. the homework will make you want to gouge your eyes out but the lectures are very interesting.
One of the best teachers Ive had! She is clear, and sweet. Very helpful and her lectures are clear and interesting. Just make sure you read for this class.
It mineaswell have been an online class. The stuff we did in class did not help me understand the material any better then the book. I expected in class activity and learning and thats not what I got.
Boring lectures, but the class was easy. The online work is time consuming, but a lot of students feel it's helpful in learning the material. If you want an A, you'll have to go to class.
Very hard to fail. She gives 4 tests one is the final. She also uses the online program so there is alot of assignments but all of them help your grade extremely. She lectures out of the book and her powerpoints which she also posts online.Only reason you would have to come to class is the little group assignments she gives for extra points.
The majority of lecture was her reading directly from the slides taken from the teaching material provided with the books, verbatim. Hardly cracked the book, and aced it. She's a professional with her own clients, but the class was dreadfully boring.
This lady is HORRIBLE she doesn't know anything she is talking about. very rude and sarcastic. she doesn't care what so ever about students grades. she has her favorites in class and doesn't care about the rest. if you try to prove her wrong and even show it in the book she won't drop the question on the test. she is very narrow minded about topics
She is an okay professor. Exams are open note, open book but it does not really help. Grade fairly. Give out a few in class activity and one huge presentation for 10-15 mins. If you do well on this presentation You will do will in the class.
who brings a 100 question on a four chapter test?!?! three test that were almost impossible, one presentation that was not structured clearly.. the class would have been interesting if someone else had taught it...
Lectures = boring but go because of group work. Test = easy if you know how to use a book since open note open book. Group project= a real pain. if your group members don't do their work trying to talk to her is pointless because its a group grade. do it all yourself and make it look good. bring a laptop and print and read the slides.
very good teacher. if you study and try it is guaranteed an A. learn practical things too! films are very interesting
She's an alright teacher with an alright class; not overly tough, but also not overly easy. The homework can be time consuming and sometimes the questions aren't even addressed in the textbook. I'd recommend taking her.
a bit hard to get an A in the course b/c not a lot of points in the class. exam format changed throughout the semester, but it was always open-book. class lectures are generally very interesting if you're interested in gender at all. also, COME TO CLASS. the class assignment may be the diff. between a B or an A :(.
Would NOT recommend- she is unclear about assignments, refuses to be proven wrong even when you point it out in text, very unhelpful takes forever to respond to e-mails if she responds at all, tricky test questions, got a B but it took an unreasonable amount of effort and confusion
To get an A you have to agree with all her beliefs and make sure you blog that way as well, or else you will not receive full credit. Although tests are open book they are really hard even if you study, they are not straight forward questions. This class sounded like it would be fun before I took it, discussion was interesting sometimes.
you have to know the textbook forwards & backwards to get an A on the exams; the online quizes help your grade out a TON! i had a D average on the exams but an A average on the online quizes, resulting in a B. u find out at the end of the semester that the TA help sessions give u extra credit, so go to those!
A repeat of every Health Ed class you ever went through in middle school. Does not make the subject matter in any way relevant to psychology and essentially reads from the textbook or puts on videos. Disrespectful and unprofessional if you seek help outside of class. Also tends to contradict her own syllabus and grading policies.
She is a very good teacher. Tests are a little on the hard side, but they are open book. You have to go to class to be able to get the class activity points. Topics are very interesting and lecturs greatly enhance the textbook.
stupid online groupwork was the worst part. Other than that, it was a regular class, go to class, read the text. She puts the posts the powerpoints, which is helpful.
This was an online class, I took it over the summer. Many of the questions had the wrong answers, and when I asked about them, I was given curt, poorly written, and frankly insulting responses. It wasn't too hard to get an A, but it was clear that the teacher put very little time and effort into the course, and many things were just plain wrong.
Clearly this woman has a lot going on with her. She has two sides, one nice and friendly, the other horribly curt and rude. You'll never know what you're going to get with her. Couldn't be happier for the semester to end. I would never take a class with her again. Good thing she's not teaching many classes---not real faculty.
coming to class is basically pointless since she just vomits what we learned from the book. actually reading the book is so much easier, and somehow FUNNIER/more engaging than going to class. she goes by lecture incredibly fast, she can be nice but sometimes she can be really ****y, go to class for the group work, and bring a book to entertain you
The slides aren't made available online, but the class is based purely on the book. Attendance is only needed for the small groups, which is how she grades attendance. The online work is quick and easy.
I took her class Spr2010. The A was alot of work for a level 100 class. There were multiple errors in the online hw, which was very time consuming. She has in class group work which is a percentage of your grade. Her lectures were not very engaging. The work required for the A is not worth the A.
horrible teacher. her lectures put you to sleep. more then half the class skips, you notice that during exams when there is a completely full class. does nothing to help prepare for exams. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Very nice teacher to talk to.
For a 100 level intro to psych class Professor O'Brien definitely stresses INDEPENDENT study. Meaning the student is mainly responsible for learning course materials. The student will be expected to read, attend class (only to reinforce difficult materials),and do online homework to ace exams to get a good grade. The workload is laborious but simple
All tests open note from the book. Questions tricky though! Curved at the end of the semester.
took her twice now-psych 200 displayed correct quiz answers as INcorrect online. 465 syllabus is unclear-different sections propose diff due dates and pg lengths. exams are unclear. lectures from nothing-not the book or PP. expects you to have newest book but hers is old as dirt bc she doesnt want to read the new bk and update her notes-lazy/boring
Not the best professor. Goes over the material too quickly. She has slides but they are pointless because she flies through them and does not post them to Blackboard. The class has a heavy reliance on the textbook. You MUST have the textbook in your lap doing online work because if you don't get it word for word you will be wrong.
You ALWAYS have to write in complete sentences even if it's unnecessary.
This professor does not connect with her students, nor is she helpful to questions and concerns you may have. Her exams are hard even though open book the questions have nothing to do with the book. I would not take any of her classes again.
You've got to read the book. Everything comes from the book. Going to class is one of the most frustrating things I've dealt with so far in college. It's completely pointless because her slides literally come straight from the book, but if you don't come to class, then you forfeit any group work done that day. AWFUL.
For those who have read the book 1984, this woman would be one of those high ranking officials working for Big Brother. She's one of those psychologists who thinks that anyone who shows signs of embracing particularness and individualism is mentally ill. If you're a PSYC major, choose your leaders carefully. We don't want 1984 to come to life.
very, very horrible class. requires far too much work for a 100 level class. attendance is mandatory, yet everything she says in class is straight out of the book. In order to even begin homework you must pass a prelecture quiz with a 90% even though you receive no credit for the quiz. I found her very arrogant. Graded unfairly as well. Stay away!
Requires so much useless busy work. It would be so much better if you could just use the amount of time wasted doing the busy work to study. Also, her lectures are useless and not insightful in the least. One of the most useless professors and a waste to the educational system.
Terrible teacher. Attendance is mandatory even though her power points are straight from the book. She has a monotone voice that puts half the class to sleep. She is never able to answer a question unless it tells it to her in the powerpoint. Grades unfairly and shows favoritism. AVOID!
I took the hybrid psych 100 course. The labs were stupid and time-consuming,but easy. The online exams and quizzes were easy. She is knowledgeable but tough.Exams are easy only if you do the work.Do all the work, review the study guides at the end of each chapter, show up to class and you should get an A. Bring your clicker to every class
Taken Fall 2013. Extremely boring. Lectures straight from the book, but mandates attendance. Always fell asleep in class. Psychology is my minor, but I'm starting to regret even that. Online labs are long and pointless; some material from them are not on exams. Take with ANYBODY else but her.
Boring class do not take with her. Some of the questions on the exams you have more than one right answers but she she only give you credit if you choose the answer she picked. AVIOD THIS CLASS
This is a hybrid classTopic interesting, but Dr. O'Brien presented it in a boring way. The class was easy but tedious and time consuming. She should make it completely online. That 1hr in lecture could be spent doing the online work rather than hearing her summarize the book. But if you want and easy, boring A then this is the class for you.
In class Dr. O'Brien is very helpful, when it comes to class work. Any questions via e-mail or in class about the final or assignments will either be very vague or not answered. No exams, only the final, which is 100 questions but easy overall. A lot of online work, but not hard. Overall, an easy grade if you do the work. Also, she's very nice.
I was so confused about the many non-user friendly layers of the online portion of the class that it was difficult to focus on the content. She words questions on tests in a tricky way and was apathetic when I reached out for help with the homeworkstudying. Psychology is such an interesting subject but she finds a way to make it boring.
Good class and requires you to work. No loafing but 4 credit A is worth it. learned a lot.
clean on what to do. You have to work but it's all very clear. Learn how to use online labs.
very concerned about students. will adapt testing if you ask her. knows her stuff and brings in interesting speakers. read the book!!!
just do the work like they say and you are fine. great online studying so just come to class and have fun
really great class and OBrien is very good with helping us understand and relate the text to our families. learned alot
This lady wants you to do well and will help, but you gotta work. Read and do labs.
Tough class with reading and essays tests, but it's good. She let's students use books for exams and have input into test content. Great guest speakers.
loads of writing for WI class but really helpful, interesting and great class to end my four years at UMBC. I wish I had taken her other courses.
didn't think I"d like the subject, but it makes sense. Good ss course
hard class but most interesting one yet.
good online work and you can sleep in class when not in group.
great course and you learn alot
really good gened course. Like her and enjoyed the group work. fun class
good class, nice person and fun group work. Just do the assignments and study with peer mentors.
really hard topics and makes you think. Not for students who like multiple choice. Really good essay exams. Got to read to the book.
Really good gen ed course with lots of online work that helps. Would take another psyc class with her.
Great class to come to. Enjoyed the reading and class discussions. Online stuff prepares you for a final but the group work is more important.
good intro class with lots of online learning. Had a blast in class with groups
really leaned alot but wished there were no exams. Guest speakers awesome and she really knows the field.
Loved this class!!!
Really great class and it is seminar so you have to read and talk. But just a good class to take and fairly easy if you do the work
class is so easy if you just follow the syllabus. good discussions in class. don't skip class or lose points
good online content and class is fun
class is too large, but the topics are good. Learned but had to read a bunch of chapters. Great discussions, but wish we could have had more time to talk in groups. Liked the balance and not all feminists stuff
Really a fun course and we learned a lot. Fun online work and small groups were hilarious. Good time and good application of concepts. Liked a lot.
The class is boring and she can't teach at all.
Just go to class, read and do your work. Learned about pretty interesting stuff
not relevant to my major, but she cares about students learning and tries to keep us interested.
There are so many resources to help you pass this class. Had some people in class who really did not like it, but they were not interested in much .
I found this to be a pretty easy class. People say her lectures are boring, but I thought she was very engaging. If you want to get an A in the course, do these 3 things: Read the book - some MC test questions are random, so knowing the random facts is necessary, Go to class (graded exercises), Ask her for help. She cares and is a good professor!
Pretty easy class and the material is interesting. Attendance is a must since there is usually assignments to do in class and there is also a lot of online work. She's not really a harsh grader though, so if you do all the assignments it should be an easy A.
Lots of small groups, clickers, and labs. Lecture powerpoints are okay, but you have a better chance reading the book and taking notes on your own. Finishing online labs is the key to success. The semester is organized in the syllabus. Keep up and you'll pass. Peer mentors are super helpful.
writing intensive but learned so much! Get ready to discuss and talk about readings. Can't be lazy and allows for different viewpoints.
She is a very nice professor who is passionate about psychology. Easy to approach and talk to if you have problems or concerns. Learned a lot about family psychology through weekly discussion style lectures, textbook readings, and writing assignments.
Half the class is based on participation and online labs. The online labs are easy just time consuming. She does clicker questions and group activities in class. She never tells us whats going to be on the exam, so you have to memorize the book from cover to cover because she asks the most random questions. Her lectures are so pointless.
Good class, but you have to work. She helps if you need special care. Has lots of resources for students
really interesting even though I am not a major. Funny class discussions and good examples of how psychology fits into everyday life.
good for gened course. fun class topics
Do the online labs, prepare for exams, easy A.
Dr. O'Brien is very unclear when questions about expectations. Her syllabus contradicted itself and she did not follow through on things listed within. Class is always rushed and she covers exactly what is in the textbook, but includes attendance in grade. An online textbook is used and graded but does not prepare you for exam material.
She lectures fast but posts power points. Not many exams but definitely go to study session or you'll be lost for the exam. There are little assignments every class to make sure you're reading but they are not hard at all. You don't have to read to pass, but you'll need the book to study.
I love Dr. O'Brien. She is very genuine. This class consists of preclass postings, reflection papers, a midterm, and a final. All of the assignments are easy. She posts the powerpoints so you do not have to write quickly in class. I highly recommend this class.
Not a horrible or mean professor, but her lectures were just condensed versions of the textbook notes. The exams were given with not much review material so I didn't know what to study for each one. I think review sessions are a MUST.
She's a very nice lady. Her lectures were taken straight out of the book, so reading and paying attention to her lectures is good because that will help you out for the exams. The questions are a bit random, but it's really nothing too challenging. She gets you the information you need in a clear manner, and doesn't beat around the bush.
Do the online labs on time. Don't wait until the last minute. Peer review sessions are concise and helpful, and if you have any concerns, go to Dr. O'Brien's office hours because she's such a great person and very understanding. Her chapters take a long time to read, but they're interesting. Manage your time well, and you'll get an A.
Dr. O'Brien has decent lectures and is pretty funny. There is group work. She randomly does clicker questions for participation points, so show up to class. Homework consists of reading, labs, quizzes, and tests; exams are taken in class. Don't worry though; there are plenty of review sessions and TAs there to help.
Sweet professor. Her exams aren't overly difficult but there is a good amount of online homework due, as well as labs. If you do the readings and complete all online materials on time, it becomes very easy for you to earn an A. The final exam is incredibly straight forward; I earned a 93% without studying. (You should still study though!)
Weights attendance for WAY too much in final grade. Got A's on all exams and most homeworks but ended up with a C! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! If u don't go to class EVERY SINGLE TIME she will pick u out and treat u like crap grade-wise and during class (consistently belittled anything I had to say for in class discussions and ignored constantly.)
better than my social work class. come to participate in a really good discussion and see contemporary films. great class for anyone interested in child welfare.
General course in large lecture hall. she knows most of the students after midterm and likes to relate psychology to other disciplines. STEM major who did not like the content but liked the course. good teacher
really good class. Attendance is more about participation in groups discussing related issues. Sad topics but so much in the news! I really liked the class.
weekly writing but it's ok. It is a process to get to a good paper at the end. Loved the content and felt like grad school seminar. If you love psyc, then you will love this course.
This is one of the most frustrating professors I've ever had at UMBC. She is a nice person, but her feedback is unhelpful and useless. She will not grade you based on how you write (and help you improve), but rather if you don't write the way she specifically wants (and I mean the way SHE wants), you fail. I would not recommend her as a Professor.
Great class on problems in teens and college age adolescents. It is writing intensive so beware you write each week and there is a paper. She gives feedback electronically just read the rubric comments. Helpful and wants students to succeed. Good discussions in class.
I've had Dr. O'Brien for two different classes now, and I still really like her teaching style. She is a very sweet professor, who cares for her students. She is big on discussion and how you can bring your real world experience into the classroom. She might be my favorite professor in the psychology dept!
Nice and fun prof, You need to either do the reading or take really good lecture notes, pay attention in lecture she will call people out for sleeping or being on there phones in lecture. A fair bit of work but not to bad over all.
course is easy-just do the work online and come to class to participate. You learn if you read and do the work. some really good sessions. Movies are fun.
I loved this class so much. The material is interesting and O'Brien makes it even more interesting in lectures. Her teaching is clear and she has a sense of humor. The work is pretty self-paced and it isn't difficult to get a good grade. Just do the reading (textbook is easy to understand) and do online assignments on time.
She assigned minor reflection posts, due at 8am before every class, and 4 major reflective papers. If you don't write the way SHE expects you to, you will not do well. It was an awful class to take considering her feedback for papers consists of "good job," "poor job," etc. I feel that if I'm not doing well in the class, proper feedback might help.
great discussions with lots of reflective writing before class. But there is a rubric that tells you what you should include in the reflection. very open and honest.
really good topics ; some boring, but mostly fun. movies were good. make sure you look at paper rubric before submitting. online tests and basically good course. come to class as there are group projects once a week.
fun class discussions. Papers are short and rubric is on bb. Had fun in the course with the topics.
She plays carpool karaoke in the mornings before class starts. Such a sweet professor and wants the best for her students. Is very knowledgable about the topics she discusses. Show up to class!!!
The tests really aren't hard as long as you read and practice some of the practice problems she gives you and the ones in the book and you will do well. Attendance is not a grade specifically but she has group assignments and those are grades (you never know when). Online labs aren't that hard but make sure you DO YOUR LABS (easy A's).
Easy A, show up to class for group activities and clicker questions (Worth 14% of your grade!), do your homework and you should do fine. The textbook is really nice, and definitely has useful information relevant to the tests, which were tricky, but not impossible. The class was at 8:30 AM, but she showed us interesting videos to keep us awake.
Dr. Obrien was a nice lady, and she definitely knew what she was talking about. She would occasionally give group work and clicker questions unannounced, so I wouldn't skip her lectures. As long as you read the textbook, though, you should be good.
Dr. O'Brien is a solid professor. Teaches using PowerPoint-based lectures (not posted on BB), videos and light humor. Interesting and useful material. Attendance graded by participation (clicker ?s, in-class assignments). 4 unit exams; no final. Read book; some exam ?s are verbatim. Sit in front to avoid disruptive students (talkers, texters, etc).
Dr. O'Brien was very disorganized with how she does things and is unclear with how she grades. Her exams are very disorganized and are tricky. It seems like she grades and teaches based on how she wants to, rather than sticking by her syllabus and the textbook. She lectures immensely.
Class was really interesting and had actual cases to discuss. Really good for social work and psyc mental health.
Lectures using powerpoint slides adapted from the textbook that she doesnt share with her students. However, there are various resources available to help you understand the material. Review sessions, etc. If you read the textbook and study the terms you will be fine.
fun class and just do the online work.
The class is easy, just lots of online work. The only thing that was kind of tricky were the exams, but going to the peer mentor review sessions really helps prepare for exams because they go over questions from past exams.
good class in psychology. I am a social work student but really enjoyed this class.
Teaching style was a bit dry, but interesting. You get credit for clickers (not graded on accuracy). The hw/labs took a few hours, but are simple. Read the textbook! Know what it contains well enough so that you have basic knowledge on it. Basically memorize the book if you can. The concept is simple, but you really need to know the stuffs to pass.
Dr OBrien is an amazing professor. Most writing intensive courses make you write a lot of papers; this course only required one, and we spent the entire semester on it. She's a very kind, understanding, and flexible person who was always available by email for anything we needed. Her lectures were also interesting, and she encouraged participation.
For an online class, more work was done than any in person class. She's condescending when speaking and gets irritated when the class does well considering her questions all come from online. TONS of group work and will keep you the entire 3 hours. Very monotone and slow and only reads her slides.
LIfespan is really interesting and she helps by getting you ready for exams
very helpful for nursing and premed.
Good class
wants students to do well
good online course; just do the work and go to class
Easy course
She's a very sweet, kind, and considerate woman. It's best to get on her good side so write a nice email when you reach out w/ a question :) Textbook is included, but going off her lectures work just fine to pass this class with a high B or an A. Kinda dry/bland though, but attendance is needed to do group work.
She reads powerpoints the whole time during class and then does group work after that. Prepare to participate in her class because most of the points come from that. She is very condescending in her responses when emails you back. I did not enjoy her at all as professor and will avoid taking her classes in the future.
really works with students. cares and tries to help you get a good grade. If you don't show up or do the work, then it's on you. lectures help review the readings.
just do the work...fair and makes the course relevant to allied health.
She is a super harsh teacher, her critiques are all criticism and not about improving your paper. She's rude over email and is not easy to talk to at all. PSYC 465 with her is not a good choice, most of the assignments are busy work and the research critique is so hard because of her grading. I would not recommend at all.
very approachable. Helped during office hours and read multiple drafts. if you do the work, you are fine. You learn alot.
The professor is nice and is very excited about the class. The class consists of each group facilitating the chapter on the day of the class. The majority of the work is online and those are usually quizzes and critical thinking and a project. Overall, the class is interesting and she makes you engage in the discussion we have each week.
Online course for 2.5 hours long, 4 exams throughout the semester and they are 150 MC questions for 2 hrs 15 min which is insane. Some material on it we never even talk about. But overall, she is extremely nice and a great professor and passionate about human growth and development! Take this class!
Met once a week, 2-hour-long online lectures with a 5-10 min break, and group work at the end of every session. Wasn't too bad as long as you did the synchronous work you a guaranteed an A. 4 exams which had 150 questions- had to do them in 2.5 hours (insane but only downside) overall nice professor she was very sweet and had a nice voice
Online lectures can be lengthy, but Professor O'Brien is passionate and helpful. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. unstuck study is a great tool for efficient study prep.
Helpful for allied health
