I have always enjoyed English, but there are usually some boring teachers. Mrs. Sweeney is not one of them. She loves discussions, and she really leads the class along while making you think to understand everything. Lots of writing work, as is required, but I had no trouble getting her to look over my rough draft and I enjoyed all of it.

Wonderful teacher, contrary to the other post she DOES read EVERYONES drafts, however you must ASK for help. If you do not want her to read it, she won't. Just how it is after English 11. I have had her for both 111 and 112. She is very clear, very happy, and very passionate about what she does. Simple, Show up, do the work, or you will fail.

Otherwise, she'll probably get upset. She gave a pop quiz my second day of class, and I learned to ALWAYS do my reading after that. Time in her class just FLIES by....

This class is all about participation, interest, and respect. Mrs. Sweeney was a pleasure to have in class as she is very witty and fair. You get what you give, and in my opinion, that's how it should be.

Really enjoyed Ms Sweeney's class. If you're respectful, then she will be too. Pay attention, ask questions and participate in class. If you need extra help go to the ILC. She takes note of students who try.

Definitely not easy, she takes writing very seriously. I worked HARD for the A I got. Participate and try, and she will be accomodating. Goof off and be disrespectful, and you will pay for it with her final.

Very good at teaching and keeping students interested and captivated. Grades very hard. know works cited etc well to do well. if you participate in class she will be easier on you because she knows that you try. Dont goof off or stay quiet or you will be graded accordingly. You earn your A's and B's .

The class was pretty easy (for me), and I found the teacher to be very funny. She definitely appreciates rhetoric/sarcasm/satire in papers (if done properly), and is a huge Firefly fan, so drop references whenever possible. I highly recommend this teacher for your classes, things start out slow, but later in the year it is awesome.

BEST TEACHER EVER. She expects you to earn your grades, but is very helpful and supportive. Funny and sarcastic and loves class participation. Speak up, get involved, and enjoy everything she has to offer, which is a lot. Seriously, brilliant woman. She's even helping me publish a paper from her class and I'm not even her student anymore.

If you aren't sure how hard or boring this class will be, take Mrs. Sweeney. She is an awesome teacher and very energetic which is unusual for an english teacher. She's pretty young so she can relate to her students. Very fun class. It's not easy, but if you read and go to her for help on papers, you will be very happy with your grade!

Only helpful to select students. Otherwise sarcastic. Easy class if you're a good writer. She assigns 2 papers, an annotated bibliography, and final exam. Gives about 2 weeks for the first paper and a month for the second paper. Papers are expected to be between 3-7 pages long depending on the paper. The final is a literary analysis.

Sweeney stuck to the syllabus and gave us more than enough time to work on our essays, which were the bulk of the course grade. I went to her office for extra help on my essays, and she made sure I understood everything I was supposed to do. I enjoyed the course and the instructor. The class was organized and helpful.

Mrs. Sweeney is one of the best english teachers ive had. As far as writing goes, if you put effort into your paper analysis she will give you a fair grade. You read the sections that she assigns, and you will do well on the mid term and final. Great teacher.

Excellent teacher -- gives very clear directions, replies to inquiries quickly and with tact, and is always willing to help. She expects you to work for your grade, but I never saw it as a chore. If you give the course effort, she will grade fairly and give you wonderful feedback. Very passionate about her work, an I would recommend her to anyone.

Sweeney is my favorite professor at Wake Tech. She gave me time during office hours to go over my drafts, and I bugged her a ton with emails and she answered every one fast. Sweeney was patient and funny and helped me write better. My classmates were boring, but the prof wasn't.

The class was really good, and I made sure to ask for help because I've never had to write essays like these before. Lots of my classmates showed up unprepared and got mad when we were quizzed, but Sweeney treated us like college students and expected us to be ready everyday. I feel better prepared for the summer classes because of this class.

Miss Sweeney is the best English professor I've had at Wake Tech! She is very helpful with great explanations and advice for the material and papers. There are 2 papers to write and she provides plenty of time and help for them. She is prompt to reply to emails and makes the readings fun with her notes and discussion boards. Highly recommended!

I took 112 with another instructor before Sweeney and failed the class. Sweeney was able to make me understand all that argument and MLA stuff. The class isn't easy, but I never had a teacher help me as much as she did.

I took this class online Summer 2014 and it was the worst class ever....the assignments are not clear and the teacher is very rude! Even though there are only 2 papers to write they are hard topic. She wants you to get inside "HER" head & write what she would write. Do not take this class with Sweeney.

I took the course online in 5 weeks, and because it's been a while since I took a college class, I was worried. The course was easy to figure out and the notes on my 1st essay helped me with the 2nd essay. It's not an easy course, but what is in 5 weeks. She answered my emails fast and did more than any other online instructor I ever had.

The class moves really fast, and even though I knew it would, I had a hard time keeping up. I asked for help on the essays, and Sweeney helped me with the writing stuff I guess I didn't learn in 112. I earned a lot. I'd definitely take her class again.

I took Ms. Sweeney for ENG112 and ENG231. She makes you work for your grade but gives you ample opportunities to get help. Doing well in her class will ensure good grades in future classes that require a paper. Also she has a great sense of humor.

Sweeney's class has been the best from my time at Wake Tech. The readings are long, but it is a lit class. I learned so much, and I'm a better writer after having to analyze the works. I think I'm ready for State now because Sweeney helped me.

Took for summer class. Thought it would be easy because it's a summer class. Worked harder than I expected but the prof helped me with my essays. She has a personality, which is hard to find in online teachers. I really enjoyed the class.

I took Ms. Sweeney for American Lit 1. The way to get the most out of her class is to engage & participate in the critical discussions about reading assignments. Grading is fair, but you better be prepared to work for your grade, especially on the essays. She's more than willing to go over papers one-on-one & gives detailed feedback.

Thought 112 was going to be like 111. Isn't. Essays are harder. Sweeney helped me go over stuff, but she takes attendance and grades strict.

Ms. Sweeney has the perfect combination of dry humor and sarcasm. Her class was beyond entertaining. She really wants you to understand what you read and in turn understand how you write. Plenty of in class writing assignments in order to perfect writing style. She made writing fun, don't show up without reading and use the ILC/REAL center!

After reading all the comments on here before starting class with Ms. Sweeney,I was terrified of her. She was really intimidating at first, but she's just a really sarcastic person. This class was really hard,but if you are motivated to work you'll get a good grade. She's a great teacher and class is always fun,I looked forward to coming to class!

Ms. Sweeney was a delight to learn from. She's very passionate about what she teaches, especially near the end of ENG 112 when you get into poetry (it's way more exciting than you think). She gave fantastic helpful feedback on my papers, and really helped me with my writing skills. Lots of reading, but very beneficial!

She is an awesome professor! She definitely expects a lot of her students but that just makes for a good professor. She is very willing to help, emails back quickly, and is fair in what she asks on her assignments and essays. Took her online summer course and although it was a LOT of work it is very possible to do all the work and do it well.

The simple formula for an A in the class or an A paper is this - Write your paper, go to the ILC and make the corrections, then the REAL center make corrections, then Ms. Sweeney during her office hours. She gave awesome feedback and using this strategy ensures she sees your best work, especially when she reads it for a second time during grading.

She is a great teacher. I disagree with some of her views on the Puritans and politics. Otherwise, great class.

I really enjoyed her! She is funny and sarcastic and if you like that, you will love her. Take your papers to the REAL center, see her during office hours and you will be fine. You need the book with the short stories but save your money on the other one- I never opened it. DO THE READINGS! She will pop quiz you a few times. Not many grades!

Sarcastic and quirky which I personally found hilarious. She takes school very seriously (as she should). If she assigns a supplemental reading online make sure you read it (she checks) and also do all other reading she assigns or you will be lost. Grades papers VERY harshly but if you go to REAL center/office hours before you should be good.

i didn't think that I was going to like this prof. at first but as the class went on she just got more and more amazing. She gives clear instructions on what she is looking for in the assignments. She is easy to email and gets right back to you. It is a lot of reading but she is generous in her grading with students own interpertation. SHES AMAZING

I took it online, 2-5 DB weekly not too bad, 2 5-7 page essays, midterm and final but apparently I suck at writing papers. She is very helpful, gives good feedback, if you are a strong writer, this will be an easy A. Instead of an 8 week session, I would prefer a 16 week session.

I asked this prof for help every week becuase I never had an online class before. She worked with me on the phone and read every draft of every paper. I wish I could of had her in the classroom, but I dont think she could have helped me more. Great class. Great prof.

I had no idea what I was doing when class started. I dont like online classes and I dont like writing essays. Sweeney helped me with everything in the course. I even brought my computer to her and she taught me how to format my essay. Shes grades strict, but if you do the work, shes really helpful.

Getting an "A" in this class is not easy. However, Professor Sweeney has to be one of the best English Teachers at Wake Tech. The two papers that you have to write are extremely difficult but I promise if you attend her office hours and go to the real center on the days that she there you will do great on the papers. We have an essay due this week. I sent Sweeney 4 drafts and she sent me notes on every draft. I never had a teacher help me that much. Id take her again if I could of fit another class into my fall schedule.

Sweeney isn't an easy professor. There is a lot of reading and each assignment is worth a large chunk of your grade. She is going to make you work for an A. Yet, she is an amazing professor. She is passionate about what she teaches. She will make you a better writer. If you need help, her office is always open. Take everything you can w/ her.

Ms. Sweeney was my favorite English professor at Wake Tech, she helps you out when you ask for it and her class is very interesting. She is also very wise, which is what I loved the most about her class.

Look, college is supposed to be challenging. Prof. Sweeney made herself more than available for any assistance needed, and gave clear instructions for assignments. At the end of the day, how well a student does is on them - did you do what was asked of you? Did you write like you talk? Did you follow prompts? Work smart and hard & you'll be fine.

It's an English class, OF COURSE theres going to be lots of reading. Prof. Sweeney did a really good job sectioning it out into lots of mini assignments and 4 papers though so it helped against procrastination. She also included good and funny insight of her real thoughts on the writers that made the boring texts more interesting. I took SUM 8wk.

This online class is not easy, but if you appreciate the literature and enjoy the process of learning to write well, you will do well with Prof. Sweeney. I was pretty bummed when I got a C on the first essay, but with her guidance and my own (very) hard work, I still got an A in the end. She also gave a little bit of extra credit in the end, fwiw.

I wasnt going to leave Sweeney a review, but She had so many comments on my essays, I wondered why I didnt get this help in 111. She answers emails fast. Shes funny in one on one work.

Writing, particuluary research based writing, has always been a challenge for me. Professor Sweeney has high standards and expects you to put in effort to succeed in her class. Her assignments and grading criteria are concise and the feedback she gives on assignments is detailed and incredibly helpful. The learning material is engaging .

She is a bit of a tough grader at times but participating in the class gets you pretty far. She is willing to provide help when needed and is easy to reach, and is as fun as an English teacher can really be when it comes to English-111.

Her class can be difficult if you're not prepared, but she's super supportive and will make accommodations if needed. Actually gives interesting lectures and really good feedback. I took her ENG 111 and 112 and wish I could take more.

I took Professor Sweeney for ENG 111 and 112. The workload is manageable with proper planning. One word of advice, read the book rules for writers if you struggle with properly writing and essay! Her classes are fun and engaging which makes learning the material easier. The essays are not insanely difficult, but expect to put in work to succeed!

This professor is professional but hard. I saw that most of the ratings against Professor Sweeney was saying how hard of a grader she is. But the reality is if you go to her office hours, ask questions, and ask for help you will be just fine. The essays are extremely doable and people who are saying she is a bully need to grow up.

Going into Prof. Sweeney's class I was intimidated by the reviews but still took the chance. I loved her class! She is such a genuine person and cares about her students. If you do not put work into the essays, then of course you'll get a 'not so good' grade. Just use her office hours, ILC, and REAL Center and you'll be just fine.

I made a huge mistake in one of my essays and she was very forgiving. She wants you to succeed and gives you great advice about what she wants to see in your essays. If you are confused why there are so many bad ratings it is because a past students mom spammed it with bad reviews after her kid got a failing grade for plagiarism.

Professor Sweeney can be tough, but if you put in the work, it pays off. Use Unstuck ai, go to office hours, and you'll be fine. The class is manageable with the right approach.

I read some of the other ratings and I think I can sum up the split between people who love Sweeney and people who hate her: she's a real college professor. If you expect to do college work (lots of reading and writing and rewriting) then you will love her and you will learn. If you want to coast and get a participation trophy, you're out of luck.

I really enjoyed Sweeney's class. In my opinion, she doesn't assign a lot of work, and her late policies are completely normal despite what all the other reviews say. There's only 3 major essays throughout the class; these essays are research heavy, but as long as you follow the prompt, handouts, and her feedback closely, you should do great.
