Evil man
No Comments
She taught us like we were in first grade.
he is evil
One of my favorite teachers
Projects = huge waste of time. Got nothing from this class and now I am lost
He forever turned me off to math...
arrogant, with only a surface knowledge of the subject
Probably the professor that I have disliked the most
By far the worst math teacher I have ever seen. Very arogent, and unhelpful.
The worst prof I have ever had, he doesn't teach, you have to learn it yourself
good teacher projects count as much at tests so its easy to boost your grade
He's hard yes but it will be worth it in the end.
The work can appear difficult and unguided, but if you do it right, he is great.
Evil, evil man
depends on the class. I have had him for 3!!!
He's awesome - his accent is SO cute, and he totally knows his stuff! Go Eisso!
Hes the only person i know that could make algebra seem difficult.

doesnt give an easy solving problem all year but not too bad
Cool guy and difficult but not his fault because Calc sucks!
piece of sheee-it. Prime example of why imports shouldn't be teaching.
Good teacher, very helpful if you take a secound to stop by his office hours.
Had him for Linear Algebra, he was a Jerk and treated students like Idiots.
Good Prof. if you're willing to put a little effort in yourself
Extremely hard to follow how he solves problems. You need to be on his level in order to understand his method of teaching. But he is nice.
How can you describe something as enigmatic as E. Atzema. He comes from a far away land known as the Netherlands where I hear hamburgers actually eat people. Is he dutch or a really a madman by the name of **** Ferguson?
Eisso really knows his stuff, and is motivated to see students suceed.
Good guy who knows his stuff. If you're looking for someone easy look elsewhere.
Worst professor on campus, if you can call him that. If at all possible, don't take a class with him. You will regret it!
Will not listen to you. Has a mind of his own. Does not know how to teach. I can go on forever-short version...KEEP AWAY!!!
Not Good. Hard to understand and follow
Awesome guy, he knows what he is talking about, and the acsent makes it so much more fun.
very good teacher
Good math professor. He let me turn in everything at the end of the semester...nice guy
Very rarely does a professor actually care if a student succeeds in his class. Eisso, does everything in his power to help his students learn the material, and will go over the subject with his students anytime outside of class. He challenges his studen
Made a lot of x-credit so people could pull up their grades. An ok prof, but he gets very defensive when you ask questions. Seems condesending, but could just be socially inept.
I LOVE THIS CLASS. so genuinely concerned for you, AWESOME guy to stop talk to...cute stories. definitely worth taking...but not easy!
Does this prof know the beautifull village of Tjuchem in the Netherlands
eisso's presence is overwhelming. i get a warm sensation when he walks into the room. by far the nicest and "most helpful" ;-) teacher i've ever had. the youthful pep and enthusiasm that he brings to class make even calculus interesting.
Condescending, rude, inept. He is accusing the students and cannot answer questions. Students deserve better.
Disaster
He's a very helpful teacher. He does tend to go by his train of thought when lecturing, but he's still quite understandable and very considerate of his students.
He is not clear on formulas and procedures, and he doesnt explain well. But he is a fun guy and very intelligent!
so a couple days before a test he tells my friend who askes him to explkin something his response "Man Your ****ed" WOW
Pay a little attention, and if you get really stuck, ask for help....he'll expect you to do the work, even if it isn't on time (he's very lenient about that), but he's very fair on his grading. Good man, and very knowledgeable in his subjects

Good guy. His handwriting might get confusing, or his explanations, but if you ask, he'll help with stuff. Never wanted to fall asleep in the class (but maybe that's just me).
What a guy. He's a riot, and a fairly natty guy.
he's very fun and entertaining, but doesn't know how to teach at all. he realizes this and is the easiest grader at umo.
I hated this class. A WONDERFUL guy but definitely not the greatest teacher.
Eisso attests to the friendliness of Dutch folk. People struggle in this class because they know he's too nice to grill them. He teaches math well. You just need to keep up with the chapters. He doesn't make it more difficult than it already is and always includes extra credit problems. Study hard and you'll get 100+ on the exams.
Eisso is the man. I've taken many mathematics courses at UMaine and Eisso is one of my favorite professors. If you ever need more hlep, just ask and he will gladly help you out. He's very approachable.
he knew what he was teaching, could not get subject matter accross to me. gives good partial credit
He enjoys the subject, and loves teaching it, but if you don't grasp the concept quick enough he is very demeaning. It was a fairly easy class, just turn in your homework fairly timely and do well on tests and you are fine.
Nice guy, terrible prof. Teaches very quickly and if you can't keep up...too bad. Expect to do a lot of reading out of the textbook to try and learn the subject...worse prof/class i've ever had. Take it with someone else!
I had to retake this class and he is the reason i passes this class.
Funny, nice guy, helps to make calculus bearable. I can see where he could be tough if one had no handle on the subject, but if one can keep up with the work, and pay attention in his class, it isn't that bad. one of my fav profs.
I have had Eisso Atzema for 3 classes, including calc III and history of math, and he is my favorite professor at UMaine. He is very friendly and helpful, although his classes are not necessarily the easiest. If you are mathematically inclined and willing to work at a class, I highly recommend him.
He doesn't really care about his students and gets annoyed when you do not understand a concept.
Very hard to follow. I think a kindergardener has better hand writing. Goes way to fast, gives homework that is irrelevant to what will be on the exams. unfair with his grading. In other words avoid this professor!
Atzema is a very intelligent professor. A lot but is willing to help as long as you ask. The tests and explorations were much easier than most of the homework. Although the homework isn't required, you will be at a loss on the test without the practice. He is also very receptive to questions, and doesn't mind repeating something if its unclear.
arrogant
The only uses for his lectures are catching up on the sleep that you missed doing the useless homework that has nothing to do with the exams that are too long to finish in the given 50 minutes. people that say calc 3 is easier than calc 2 obviously never took calc 3 with Eisso. I spend most time trying to comprehend what he writes on the board
His calc 3 class was a disaster!!!
Great professor, nice guy, very funny and willing to help. Goes over lots of examples in class, goes over nearly every homework problem on the assignment before you turn it in. Give lasts years exams as the practice test which are very similar to the current year test. tests are much easier than homework. will answer any question you ask
As long as you go to class you are going to pass; however he is unbelievably arrogant, class is extremely confusing, and it is beyond boring. He just puts problems up on the board and says "there so you know this". Lacks any ability to teach material.
Tests weren't anything like what we were going over and a lot of the homeworks were complicated and tedious. Nice enough guy but he just doesn't communicate well enough for my liking. I don't recommend this teacher, Steenbergh is better
Eisso is a nice enough guy. If you need extra help, he will be more than willing to try and help you understand. Tests were mostly different than previous exams that he gives out, which made it hard to study for.
Eisso Atzema likes to rush through topics. Either he assumes everyone is a math savant or he shows off his knowledge by going fast as possible. If you ask him a question, he will answer it the same way he explained it at the exact same speed. He is a fairly nice grader. Other than that, I would not choose to take another class with him.
Atzema is a pretty decent guy; however, his class is horrible. He will work through problems, but very rarely are they on the test. If you are confused then you are pretty much on your own. He will see you after-hours, but I fear he is too intelligent to help/communicate with the majority. I recommend another class.
He's a good teacher but he does NOT know how to teach.
Helpful outside of class. Has slight accent that is difficult in the start, but gets better. I thought of switching Week 2, but was glad I stuck with it. Exams pull from HW worksheets, in-class examples and practice tests. Homework is WAY harder than actual exams.
Great guy, bad teacher. Class was an absolute snooze fest. He runs through material very quickly, and if a question is asked he will explain it essentially the same way. Earned As in Calc. I and II, and a C+ in this class. Also averaging an A in Differential Equations, so this class was the GPA killing outlier. Avoid this guy.
While he's not the best choice for those that aren't interested in math due to his speed, his lectures are intuitive and he does a good job of making it clear what is expected of the students. He shows an honest interest in the subject matter and in the students and will go beyond the subject matter with individuals should they ask for it.
Solid prof, wont get much better then him, some people don't like him but I don't see anything wrong with him, his exams are tricky, but put in the time and he will always help in office hours
Atzema is pretty average. He's a great guy, very accessible, but has trouble communicating things when his students get stuck. He's a very fair grader, lots of partial credit, but on the other hand his tests always involve insanely hard questions, much harder than what is covered in class and homework.
His lectures can be difficult to follow at times, and sometimes his examples don't clearly demonstrate concepts. He has lots of office hours outside of class for help, and is very interested in the subject. Take advantage of practice tests as they're fairly similar to exams. Explorations are far more difficult than homework/tests.
I had Atzema's Calc 3 during COVID, and at the beginning of the semester, he struggled a little bit with everything being digital. I must admit that his class is hard, especially when it's virtual math, but he really puts the effort in to teach the class to the best of his ability. He always has good office hours and offers lots of partial credit.
Though he struggled a bit with the online stuff and the homework kind of went out the window, he was relatively clear about what needed to be done and the tests and quizzes were clear and concise. Although he would often make mistakes early on in an example problem and it was up to me and another student to correct him lol.
Prof. Atzema is kind and patient, but takes some of your knowledge for granted. Be ready to attend office hours. Study guides rarely reflect exam material. He also skips through parts of examples that seem basic to him, but often aren't basic to the students.
Is nice but will take away many points for small errors and refuses to curve unless the majority of the class is getting less than a 60%
Atzema is a super nice dude and he really wants you to succeed. I started out the year really rocky (68 on the first exam) and was able to get it up to an A by the final. Lectures tend to be confusing and excessively wordy so be prepared to spend time outside of class if you really want to understand the material.
Generous grader! Sometimes he skips steps in examples on the board, but if asked he'll explain the process. Would definitely take another class with him in the future.
Attendance isn't required, but he remembers faces and will favor you if you show up to every class. Definitely get help on the "explorations." He will help you understand what he is looking for.
This was supposed to be my easy class, instead I found differential equations easier. He assigned very few homework assignments that were worth no credit and not graded so there was really no way to learn. The wording of questions and notation was so unnecessary. He also spent the first 10 minutes of class complaining about who didn't show up.
This is not a stats class. His lectures are impossible to follow, the exams are confusing and not worded in correct english (double negatives). He has introduced "R" as a coding calculator however gives very little to no information on how to code with it but expects us to use it to complete "explorations" and to validate our work.
I've taken stats classes before and this is nothing like them due to the most confusing lectures and "definitions" that he seems to make up on the spot. He also writes variables wrong such as sigmas (he draws them vertical), and many other probability statements are just mashed together in his own way as he goes. This is your warning.
Prof. Atzema is a good guy, but not a good teacher. He takes forever to get class going, always will go off track and never clearly teaches material. He constantly misspells words and uses the wrong nomenclature. His exams are not easy and not similar to his practice exams. Several assignments using R with little to no explanation. beware.
