People don't get him. If you want to go to college, instead of welfare school, take him.

Jones is an amazing prof. People who are saying negative things about him here are lazy and only looking for a "free pass." He's a credit to this institution. A smart and talented and educated black man teaching where it matters! Enough said.

he's pretty good, he'll tell u exactly what he wants in ur essays and helps u all the time. never boring, always keeps discussions, makes alot of quizes though, and journal entries. take him, u'll do good

take his class if u wanna go to a university. everyone says he's hard, but i didn't think so (of course, i didn't tell anyone that, unless i wanted to get jumped...) anywaysss, a lot of h.w and quizzes, but they're easy if u studied. if ur not gonna work hard, don't even bother takin him.

Professor Jones is an AMAZING teacher. If you want to learn how to write then take his class. After taking his 015 class, I went on to take 101 and 102 Honors; I earned A's in both classes.

Okay so he thinks so fast that he mispells words but he is awesome if you want to learn how to write and suceed in college. Unfortunately He is scaling back because of special lazy student who don't want to learn by studying. Considering that I hate to read, have a hard time absorbing text book reading I came out with a high B. Jones is Great.

he is a great professor. i learned a lot from him. his class isn't an easy A so if that is what you are looking for then don't take him. you have to put effort in to get the grade you want.

I've had him 2 times for english 015 and 914. 015 was great but you just have to do your work and pay attention. 914 was hard I had a B in the class the whole semstier than I took the final which is graded by other english teaches and got a D. I thought it was wrong that I got that grade cuz I did my best on the final. But great teacher.

Professor is very precise in what he expects in his papers. If you give a clear thesis, topic sentences with body paragraphs pertaining to the topic sentence, and basic transition sentences, your essays should be fine as long as your grammar isn't complete garbage. Gives a quiz from the text book every few classes so keep up with the reading.

As an ex-student of professor Jones, I must say that his class prepared me very well for the upper division writing course at Cal State San Bernardino. If you want to pass an upper division writing class, Professor Jones will give you the key to the Lamborghini.

You have to be up for learning and not expecting something easy. I waas well prepared for my Cal State classes. In fact I wouldn't have made it through my expo 306 at Cal State if I didn't take prof. jones b/c my prof. there was confusing. If you plan to go on to a univ. then it is best for you to take him.

Thought he was a great teacher. Makes you think and very interesting discussions about most topics. Very down to earth and approachable for help. Highly recommend him for anyone who has passion about learning and own thoughts. Those who are lazy beware.

This is a great Professor! I don't care what other people says.I took him three times 914,015,and 101 and he is very helpful. Some students don't want to show up for class, participate, yes participation is part of any class, and doing your work. I highly recommend him if you want to learn. Again, Great Professor!

Excellent Professor! if you don't want to work don't take him. You will learn a lot from him, and of course he will ask you to come during office hours because he can talt to you one on one and can address the problem in a better way. I learned a lot from him. I used to hate English but he made me like the subject and also he motivated me to read.

HE IS A VERY COOL DOOD. Extremely helpful, and makes the learning experience fun. I would recommend this class to anyone.

Great class. You could tell he was very passionate about it. We read three textbooks and watched the films and we also watched the first season of Deadwood. I had a great time, he isn't too tough on grading and we wanted more participation than writing assignments.

EXCELLENT teacher! If you participate in class, read the material, and attend every day, you'll succeed. He tells you EXACTLY what he wants so, just read the handouts carefully and try your best! I highly recommend this teacher!

He's a very hard teacher to pass and I tried my best to reach to his level. Which I did on some certainty; however, the essays were just confusing. But the novel we read "Of Love and Dust" was very interesting and enjoyed it. Overall, he's a great teacher. learn alot from him though I drop out his class. w.o I would do well in my other eng course

Excellent professor. In my opinion, one of the best professors on campus. Yes, his class is tough but not beyong what should be expected at a college level class. be warned, lots of critical thinking. I recommend this class to those who want to actually learn the proper way to write a paper.

Great teacher. He will tell you exactly what he wants I don't know why people are confused. You can ask him questions, just not ones that you could easily find out yourself. Interesting material and good discussions. Follow directions and pay attention and you will be well prepared for higher level classes. His class is not for the weak or lazy

I couldn't believe all these bad reviews! I'm reviewing ENG 151 & not 101. 101 IS a much harder class but once you learn the basics its all downhill from there! E.J is super relaxed & fun! The required reading is engaging & all you have to do to pass is read the material & participate in discussions. This is the EASIEST class I have taken at SBVC!

If you want an easy A then this class is not for you. Stay on top of assignments and take notes,ask questions you'll get great answers. Great,clear teaching method,you listen,you learn

After reading all the comments about EJ I was really worried about having him as my professor (didn't plan on taking him, the professor I was supposed to have had an emergency and couldn't teach the class). But he turned out to be an amazing teacher. Yes, it's a lot of work but I left that class and felt like I really learned a lot.

If you are looking for an easy A or just to pass with a C... any PROFESSOR!!! any CLASS!! is not for you. Come on guys we are in COLLEGE if you haven't noticed. If you are not going to challenge yourself while in school, how are you going to take the challenges that you're going to encounter in life?

His class is not easy but he has great books to read and makes you see life in a different perspective. I would want to take him again but my work schedule won't allow it. Great professor.

E.J. is a tough teacher but very, very fair. If you put in the work and effort then your grade will reflect it. I took his 015 class & enjoyed his teaching style so much, I took his 101 class. He does assign a great deal of reading but we are in college. I would highly recommend his class.

He is to the point and expects his students to work for their grade, I enjoyed his class, I learned a lot. But don't expect him to just hand out anything work hard and it will show.

If you do not wish to think and actually learn how to improve your writing skills, then do not waste your time, or his. His expectations and assignments are crystal clear, and he is always willing to help those who try. He will not hold your hand or give you answers, but he will guide you and challenge you to do your best. One of my favorites!

E.J is by far the best English teacher that I have taken. He does assign essays and some homework but how do you expect to learn without them? He is a fair teacher and I feel that my writing has improved so much because of him. I have taken AP courses before in High School and learned nothing. If you are up to challenge yourself in order to learn, take his class. I took his English 015 and received an A. I am now taking his English 101 and I am also going to receive an A. I suggest that if you are not too well in English/writing and are willing to improve your skills to register into his class.

This professor pays back double what you pay him. You pay him and do the readings and read the assignments and follow the instructions? He will get you through it and make you a strong writer. You pay him nothing and dont follow instructions and dont show up? Why do you think you will pass?

I honestly loved Professor Jones. He was a tough grader, but you're in college. He doesn't give a ton of work. Work hard on the assignments he does give, and you will be fine. He likes to have intellectual conversations, which I really liked. Participate in the conversations. He doesn't care if your opinion is different. Just express it.

E.J. is amazing! That is all... No, but really, I learned so much in his class. He makes you think for yourself which I've noticed not too many students like. Some complained that he answers your question with a question but I really liked that. "You'll learn something you never knew you never knew" Plus, he loves discussions; and so do I!

EJ has been an excellent, inspiring, and giving teacher. He is rigourous with his students but he is also flexible. I am very grateful for his push to make me better. He is passionate about English and demonstrate the art and the power language poses. Not only did I learn as a student, but I also took his teachings outside of the classroom.

Best experience with a professor. I loved the teaching style and the material he gave us to read was interesting. He expects you to be on top of your game.

Professor E.J. does assign reading but he wants to sharpen your skills in order to be a smarter individual. He gives you an outline of the entire course week by week and there are no surprises. Theres a few quizzes, 3 essays and 1 research paper, all of which he gives you plenty of time to do.

So I failed ejs class the first time around but it showed me how serious I was about my own education. The grade wasnt the point of the class the educational growth was. I literally pick up a dictionary any time I even wonder about a word because he was all about learning something new. Its made me a better writer and a more confident scholar. .

EJ is a very passionate professor who's lectures often revolve around real life issues and ideas that helped me become a stronger critical thinker. He gives clear instructions on assignments, and will go over them thoroughly. He gives students the opportunity to rewrite essays to improve their grade, and gives extra credit.

This class really made me think and in many ways changed my life. Ej is straightforward, honest, caring, and his lectures are amazing. Keep up on your papers because they come up quick but he there for you every step of the way. If you need someone to baby you though, take another class. He inspired me to think outside the box and be more.

I dont understand why he has such a low rating, Professor Jones is a fantastic Professor who is tough but only because he wants to challenge you. You honestly leave his class a better writer and he does a great job preparing you to write at the University

I wish I could retake his course, definitely my favorite professor at San Bernardino Valley College. The class is only as challenging as you make it, I showed up every day, read the assigned readings, came ready for the discussions, prepared for the quizzes, and asked several questions even if they were silly questions.
