Miss Fuchs is a great teacher. clear, patient, but not easy pass,
Ms. Fuchs is one of the best math teachers I have ever had! If you want to enjoy learning math, definitely take her. If you are looking for an easy A, look elsewhere.
A very good and patient instructor! If you ask questions in class she will explain very clearly. Not hard at all if you review your work everyday before class.
this is my second semester to take Miss Fuchs. She is great! She really cares about her students and you end up learn a lot. fair grade, but not a easy A(she expect her A students are qualified to be a tutor):)
Best teacher i've had at city college! She enthusiastically explains everything with complete clarity. Her personality is greatly needed in the math world. 90 or above for an A separates the children from the men.
Very Very hard .If your major is mathematics+ you really like proofs & intuitive then take her. Not easy A and B , you will C after putting alot of time into Math ignoring your other subjects.Good but NOT Easy!!
good teacher, explain concepts clearly, but has tendency to rant that waste time she says she does not have. the teacher dictates the pace so the fault for being behind is her own. also forgets to do what she say she is going to do.
want to become a Math scientist ??If YES then take her , otherwise If you want an A or B even after studying then DONOT TAKE HER . She thinks that students will also be teaching in future. Helpful but Very Hard
Not an easy teacher
Even Newton would get a D in her class ...lol
Well , i had already got 100 % percent in Calculus in my country but when I took her class, i ended up getting a B , she has kind of proud and feels proud to challenge the students.Definelty NOT an easy teacher.
I took fuchs last semester for Calculus II. Very hard . Had to drop her class .
There is a pretty wide disconnect between quiz material and homework material. The easiest quiz material is the hardest homework material. The harder quiz material doesn't even appear in the homework. The presentation is invariably rushed, lacking in the necessary clarity to foster understanding. Too bad CA loves funding prisons more than schools.
Rushes through the material. The problems which she gives on quizzes and exams are above our level. Problems are really long and time is less+ those problems are not related to Homework that she assigns. Definitely Hard.
I feel bad when some students rating Ms. Fuchs so low. I think the way she teaches really helps students prepare for UCs or math majors. I think US need more math teachers like Fuchs who has so much passion on math or on teaching math! Our math is falling behind in the world, don't you think we should do more, instead of saying the teacher is hard!
NOT Recommended...Unexpected hard Quizzez and Exams..
She knows her stuff, but unfortunately it doesn't necessarily mean she can teach Cal III. Poor lectures with the simplest examples of the book. There is no connection between her lectures and the knowledge you need to resolve the homework and hard tests. Not a bad person but as I said she can not teach Calculus. Don't recommend to take her class.
I wish CCSF had a standard to filter teachers in terms of distributing classes. For a course like MATH110C,students are supposed to be given an expert math teacher but Miss Fuchs lacks the qualities a good teacher has. DONOT take her atleast for major Math classes.
I am not satisfied by taking her.the first day of class she said, "At this point i feel you all are smart enough so I feel perfectly okay to challenge you all". It seems that she is not a teacher but our competitor. She feels proud by giving us those problems which students cannot solve. She doesn't have a teaching attitude. Very unclear and hard.
Not satisfied by her teaching style and type of exams.I donot recommend.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had. She consistently gets derivations wrong, and clearly doesn't know half of what she tries to teach. She then designs her tests to be twice as long as they should be. Stay away for your own good.
Fuchs class was very organized and structured. Since I took her over the summer, things moved quickly. Homework was online. You could get by without looking at the textbook, but I do not suggest that. She drops 2 lowest homework scores.
Horrible Instructor. Can,t even solve the example problems from the book. I definitely Don,t suggest you this teacher. When students ask a question, her responses are like talk to me in office hour. She doesnt know how to teach + V.Hard
Can,t teach calculus . Makes so many mistakes whiles solving a problem. Exams are really hard and long.Doesn't answer a question. Main issue is that she is Very hard.
She doesn't know her material. She demeans her students in class. Some people should not even try to be teachers, and Fuchs is one of them.
I took Miss Fuchs in Fall 2010. Extremely Hard and doesn't know how to teach. At the end of semester only 9 people took final for her class and nobody got an A . look for another teacher.
Took the midterm recently. Even after preparing in study group for midterm , it was so hard that students are unable to figure out how to prepare for Miss Fuchs exam. I am repenting to take her.Stay away from her if you don,t wanna mess up with your Grade.
Ms Fuchs teaching style is object, clear and straight forward. It is a BIG mistake that many students complain about how her exams are different(harder) than HW and Qz. Exam messurees how well a student can use the material in a practical matter, not how well he/she remembers the HW and Qz. Her class is challenging, and requires critical thinking.
A good waste of Grade, time, and money is by taking the class of Instructor Fuchs.
Very Disappointed by her :( Too hard and doesn't explain well.
Miss fuchs thinks that students are her competitors,Therefore she feels proud by giving Hardest problems which even 4.0 students would not be able to solve in 1hour. Her attitude is not like a teacher. Take a teacher ,not a proudy lady.
I can't say anything about other students but for me she is really really hard .. i took her for one semester. after that i can't even think to take her again coz for my me , a 4 unit grade matters alot.Overall really hard instructor.
Taking her class is equivalent to dropping all other classes . So if you take miss fuchs then you will have to get W either in her class or another class to work your ass off for her hard exams .
She's hard.If ur familiar w/ math then she's fine, but if ur learning it for the first time then try someone else.I think math's just such a part of her life that she forgets we are still learning. She goes fast and skips steps. If you take her, take advantage of office hours!Hard class but if you make it,I do have to admit, u learn a lot in the end.
It's funny to see some people said no one got A in her 110A class, my friends and I all followed her in 110A and 110B, we all got A!
She knows her stuff very well, and is willing to see you in her office hours, but she is extremely hard! Her exams are very hard too. I tried my best and still didn't do well. You have to take only her class for the semester in order to pass.
she came into class today with an answer sheet to the study review sheet and played it off by making us correct her mistakes. we wasted class time correcting HER mistakes. other than that, getting tested on material 2 weeks prior when we're 2 chapters ahead of the test subject is confusing. you won't pass her class unless you have no other classes.
Seemed very strict on the first day of class but as the days went on she seemed nicer. Goes over a lot of material in class, so yes go to class. Gives reviews before exams which are helpful. Could get boring and repetitive at times (class 5days/wk). As long as you do all the work and get fairly good grades on the exams, you'll do fine in the class.
She makes problems seem harder than it is. the way she explains things makes it confusing. spends a lot of time going over what youre not suppose to do, gives you a problem to solve, then solves it really really quick (leaving questions still in your head). After that, while youre still trying to recuperate the last problem she starts a harder one
Her tests are really computationally intensive sometimes, but she is very nice. Her final is not as hard as her regular tests.
Don't choose her class if u have choice. My friend and I were took her class, we did take home quiz together, but my scores 10 less than the boy! Although we had same answer. She said I miss process which part not necessary. For quiz and exam, she always lower the scores just for losing details.
Very clear and precise lectures..I do not know what other people are talking about.. just as long as you do the homework and show up you will pass.
Great teacher.Just as long as you show up and do your work you will pass.
Professor Fuchs was awesome. Her lectures were very clear and was happy to make time to help you outside of her office hours. She gave 12 quizzes with plenty of notice and 4 exams with full study guides a few days ahead of time. She doesn't allow calculators for quizzes or the four main exams but did allow it for the final. Highly recommended!
I believe she is one of the best teachers in City College. Her calculus class is not easy. In fact, it is math class and student must put a lot of effort on it. But she teaches her students patiently and is willing to help students. She never looks impatient during her office hour even though you have not made an appointment ahead of time.Take Her!
Best teacher ever she's Russian!
She's my best teacher so far, she's very helpful, clear, kind and sweet about getting students pass her class. She's motivated in teaching her students by encouraging them to do all the homework. Wen there's exam coming, she's always prepare materials before hands to students. So we all understand it enought, to pass the exams.I love her. Katia
Fuchs is passionate about teaching math and really wants all her students to do well. She explains her work very thoroughly. Exams weigh heavy on your grade so you need to study. Fuchs is a quality teacher. Although math is a boring class, she tries to keep you awake with her dry humour. She is always open to helping students.
I hadn't taken a math class in 18 years, and Katia totally put me at ease. She is brilliant, clear, funny, endlessly patient and very generous with her time. Homework was rigorous but that's how you learn math. Our class was so disappointed that we couldn't continue with her in Math 70 or 80-- we all loved her! Absolute gem!
I have been away from school for more than 10 years but Ms. Fuchs was really helpful. I like the way she explains everything in details. Best math teacher I've had so far.
Ms. Fuchs is not a bad teacher, it's just that this isnt my best subject, and the fact that she moves very fast didn't really help matters. She was eager to answer questions but she answers them so fast that i couldnt remember what she said. However her exams weren't to bad.Overall i say take her class if You learn fast.
She EXPLAINS EVERYTHING VERY FAST, DONT GET ME WRONG , SHE IS VERY NICE AND FUN. BUT FOR THOSE WHO DONT LEARN VERY FAST OR HAVE A HARD TIME WITH MATH SHOULD NOT TAKE HER CLASS. ALL HOMEWORK IS ONLINE AND SHE GIVES QUIZES EVERY SINGLE WEEK. FOR MY CLASS I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY HARD. JUST MY OPINION.
She's an awful teacher; wastes a lot of time in class telling stories of her college years & not enough time on the material. Homework is done online & she expects MyMathLab to teach you the material (LAZY). I hated MyMathLab & was doing poorly on exams so I had to withdraw. I received an A in Math 40 so teaching style plays a big part in success.
I have taken her calculus class, and she explain every clearly! She is a hard grader, but I got A. If you study hard and struggle with problems. you would get A. She uses Webassign for HW. She is nice!:D
I don't understand why people say she is hard, actually I think she is not hard at all. I think she really love teaching and she explain very well. I know what other people talking about, compared to other teacher, she grades harder. but I still recommend her.
Ms. Fuchs is an extraordinary instructor. The way she explains the material makes it easy to understand and interesting; she's always adding interesting bits of info alongside the material. Always helpful and entertaining, and genuinely concerned with the path her students will take. She wants all of her students to be mathematicians.
Dont take her class if you dont want to have a difficult time. She explained too fast. Talked a lot of BS in class. Didnt have enough time to cover all the material. Always made mistakes in class. Not organize on her teaching. She gave review st for the exams, but she didnt give us answer and the exam's questions didn't come from the review st.
Her lectures seemed a bit rushed but we had a lot of material to cover in stats. She was always available to help outside of class and material on exams was straight forward. Super nice professor!!
I sent her a total of probably 7-8 emails through the course of the semester, only got one or two replies even though she said she'd always get back to you. She explained things kinda well but there were some things that she rushed through and didn't explain the steps for. It got pretty annoying. I wouldn't take her again
Ms. Fuchs knows how to teach math in depth and its very IMP to show up to class. If you show up to class and pay attention u can easily get a B. Her English is top notch. She always stays a bit late after class to answer questions. Assigns 12 quizzes (some r take home), and assigns online HW which I hate. I RECOMMEND her. Overall, shes a good prof
Her class was alright , she taught pretty fast , she marks off for very minor things , she teaches 1 style , never showed up for exams , always late or never showed up , more than 50% of class failed with an F.
I learned more about her life then i did about actual math. If this is a refreshment class for you then i say take it with her, but if you don't really understand elementary math or there are certain things you struggle with do not choose her for a teacher. The quizzes are easy but the test that actually count aren't really covered over in class
She will have exams that are very tough. Make great use of the 3x5 card she will allow you to use. The exams have questions where you need to write out an explanation rather than solve a problem. WAY too many quizzes, every week. The only way I would take her again is if it is what best fit my class schedule.
Off topic to main points in lectures often future topics in other classes, nails for the slightest missed detail, wouldn't take again.
She's very inspiring, she really loves math and knows it inside and out. She doesn't like to teach shortcuts, she expects you to really "get" the material. It's hard a lot of the time for this reason, and her exams are kind of brutal, but I'm taking her again next semester so, something about her style resonates with me. Recommend for STEM students
YOU GET AN INDEX CARD FOR EACH EXAM! She doesn't care what you put on it. You can even put questions on previous homework or quizzes with the answers. She uses some old quiz questions on exams. I can't do word problems so I wrote down all the words problems from the homework, and 2 of them were on the Exam. YAY!
Don't expect to pass this class if you won't even show up to class! Every class you go to will be crucial. I've never been good at math and I finished with a B but earning that was not easy. You really have to work hard for it. Every test you get to use an index card (4 tests) and many quizzes. Take notes and do your online homework!
This is the best Math teacher I ever had. Her lectures are very interesting and organized. She motivates students to love Math and helps them understand it. I got A on her class. I had to work daily for it. Do your homeworks and focus on quizes! I would take this teacher again!
Best math instructor ever! Get ready to do lots of hw (good practice). The good news is is that she gives out hw, quizzes, and four tests so if you're good at one of those you're set for at least a B. Participation is helpful! You also get a note card for tests. Most useful thing she did for us was go over any questions before tests.
Katia is great. She is so passionate about the subject she is teaching. I loved her speech in the beginning of the semester about the Universe and why Mathematics matter.
I thought she was easy in the beginning, but I was wrong. For quizzes and tests she grades very strict and punishes small mistakes (takes away a lot points). Half of the class got Cs and Ds. You must attend class and follow the lectures and make sure you understand everything. She sometimes put questions she didn't talk about. Take at your risk!!!
Katia is the best math instructor that I have ever had. Her enthusiasm is contagious and, her classes are never boring. If you attend class and do the homework, you will do alright. Grading is fair and, she offers extra credit questions on tests. Definitely not an easy class but so worth it.
there will be few take home quizs and exams to save you grade, but be expect a lot of homework for those didn't show up on class, but overall, best math instructor
Do not take her class she really she give exam every Friday and some of the stuff you haven't even learn she will make you pay online to do homework which is impossible for some students who don't have money winds up failing even you make a mistake on exam or test she will remind and also she taches to fast for some new students and not good help
Her voice is distracting, but overall shes very interested in helping you pass, so she puts a lot of effort into her class
One of the best teacher I have had so far! She's a nice person open to her student's questions. She wants you to succeed and will do her best for you to understand the material !! She gives quizzes every week ( she drops the two lowest) so get ready to work, however, you will end the semester with high math skills.
Katia is a great teacher. She cares a lot about her students and is very open to questions. Her class is not easy but not hard either as long as you put a minimum of effort into the class. She gives quiz every week but always announces what will be covered, no surprises (she drops the two lowest scores)!
lots of homework, and little bit fast teaching. very good teacher. can extend your homework forever. and funny speech
She teaches clearly and really makes sure that you understand the material. Grading is clear and as long as you study for the tests/quizzes and stay on top of homework, you'll do fine in her class. I would recommend!
Prof. Fuchs is fair. After two semesters in her classes that's the best summary I can give. If you do your portion she will go above and beyond on her end to help you succeed. She is mindful of each student's financial status, she's thorough on lectures showing various ways to see a problem and solve it and she's realistic in her expectations on hw
Ekaterina is great for my precalculus class. Explains the material very thoroughly and answers any questions you have. There's a quiz every week but it's fair, and the homework is done online. Tests were graded leniently imo. She cares about her students and makes the effort to help anyone who is struggling.
Great professor! I took her class back when i was a mediocre student and still managed to pass. I highly recommend her. Her lectures are very clear and organized and she is also really helpful and answers all questions.
This class was quite difficult but she did a great job of teaching it. She really cares about her students and wants to ensure all of them pass. She even had a substitute once (which almost never happens) so that we learn everything we need and don't fall behind. She drops the lowest test score and we also had weekly quiz. Great professor!
Had her for my first year at City College for Intermediate Algebra. The class is great and she had a tutor for that class to talk to if we ever got stuck. As long as you keep up with your work and come to class you will pass. Some of her quizzes we got to do as a group.
Arguably the best math prof at CCSF. Very organized and in general just a good teacher. Her class is not easy, but if you put in the work, study, and do the EC you will have no problem getting an A. HW is online, she drops two lowest quizzes/HW's, and offers ample EC. I took her for summer, the pace was crazy but I've never learned so much.
Theres an assignment due every week, sometimes even two assignments in a week. Quizzes at the end of every week, and tests about every three weeks or so. Attendance is graded.
There are a lot of quizzes each week. Make sure youre prepared. If you fail a quiz you can always go to tutoring and get points back. She was a very nice teacher and is caring.
Katia is a very kind teacher who genuinely cares about her students. Since I took her summer course, there were quizzes quite often but she prepares you well for them. During the tests and quizzes, she also lets us bring a page of notes. She does not grade super hard but remember your stuff.
Professor Fuchs is a fantastic instructor who genuinely cares about her students' success. If you're taking this class (MATH 90 + S) prepare for a fast pace and daily study / homework outside of class. Tons of extra credit opportunity and exam corrections to earn partail points.
Professor Fuchs is one of the best professors I've had. She's kind, considerate, and accommodating. You can get 110% on every homework if you finish it on time and there are 5 tries allowed for each problem. The lectures are a little lengthy but she covers the material well. There are test corrections where you can get half of the missed points.
1 quiz a week with 2 homeworks. Lots and Lots of extra credit opportunities. Really cares about what she teaches. 3 tests, 1 Final. Participation matters. Everything has equal grading, very well paced. Didn't use textbook once. Extra credit every few quizzes always on stuff that is ahead and you haven't learned yet, so if you want it, study ahead.
Straightforward approach to content with a small quiz every week, a test every month or so, and homework sprinkled around the semester. She is very accommodating to students and is actively inviting students to answer questions. Outside studying may be required if the foundations of precalc and trig are a little shaky.
It's really easy to get lots of points via xtra credit. In my opinion, I felt that we went a bit too slow on the basics of calculus like limits and continuity, which made us only have one lecture on integration. She's really caring, but I felt like I was being babied, not in college. quizzes every week but are not too hard. Course was really easy.
Fuchs is a fantastic professor who genuinely cares about her students. The class is challenging but manageable with dedication. Quizzes and homework are frequent, but she offers great support. unstuck ai was a huge help for studying.
Started off organized, but she quickly stopped grading, showed up late, and didn't communicate about subs. Homework was hard to track, and the class lacked structure. Didn't even grade for midterms in time. She's kind but often rambled and seemed distracted. Only take it if you're fine teaching yourself.
Katia completely changed my perspective on math and collaborative studying. She is very intentional about ensuring everyone has a chance to speak/answer questions…it was nice to be able to ponder a question a bit without someone blurting out the answer tbh (no shade to the super smart ppl). Highly recommend her class! She genuinely tries her best.
Professor Fuchs' Calc 1 transformed my math experience! She creates a safe space to ask questions, uplifting all voices. Emphasis on collaboration fostered friendships I will always cherish. Email replies are slow, but her irl/zoom office hrs offer amazing support for challenging topics. Katia's genuine passion for teaching math is truly inspiring.
I've failed introductory calculus four times, and my fifth and final retake was with Katia Fuchs. I truly could not recommend her more as, although this class and the material is difficult, she was the only professor that was able to teach me calculus well. I've gained so much from this class, and you'd be making a mistake to not take hers.
