Very good lab instructor, very helpful and nice! wish she was the actual lecture instructor, highly recommended

She is an OK lab teacher, but not helpful in lecture exam reviews. She always seems like she doesn't know what she's doing, like she cannot answer practice exam problems by herself and depends on answer keys/solutions manuals. Take Andrea Chen

She is nice,respectful, and willing to help.Although she is our lab instructor,she tries to help us with the book exercises.Even when somebody stole my lab coat and goggle she helped me out to have another one for that day,so I could do the lab experiment.I recommend her to the students that are looking for a helpful,respectful,and nice instructor.

She's nice and if it wasn't for her there is no way I would even have a chance at passing chem since the lecture professor is horrible. Take her if you can.

She is nice. But most the time she seems like she doesn't know what she is doing. Make sure you wait until she has finished a problem before you started writing it down because she makes a lot of mistakes. However she is helpful and the lab is very laid back. I would recommend her.

I had her a while back in 101. She's way cool, and you sort of feel like you're one of her babies, haha. She can get a bit scatterbrained at times during class, but when you talk to her one on one about topics she is clear. Take her!!! If you can't get her than get Michael Fimbres!

Elaine is one of the best lab instructors at CSULB. However, there is a big difference between general chem and o-chem. This was her first time teaching an o-chem lab, so it wasn't very easy for her. She didn't really know what to do if things didn't work out the way they were supposed to. Great for general chem, but not for o-chem

Elaine is awesome, there is no way i would have done as well as i did without her help, she's kind, patient, and loves her job. she should be the lecturer. if u stay with her after lab she will go over the practice exams with you to make sure u have everything down :)

Easy class. Plain and simple.

Her class is extremely easy I got an Abut lot of my friends who took the course got a B. For essays she only looks at the format not the content. Show up to class and do hw. Make sure to get 100% on the other stuffs so you can fail the final and still get an A. Final was hard because it had all of the above/none of the above for all the Qs.

She is a great teacher! her class is really easy. she gives a few assignments. one essay. and 2 exams. exams are based on materials from class which isn't difficult at all. class discussions are usually pretty fun. she hardly gives any work, and stays after class for questions. she's very helpful. attendance isn't too mandatory but it's recommended

She is really friendly and doesn't waste your time with unnecessary information just to fill in class time. Easy midterm and assignments and she will help you out with anything you need help on.

Best lab instructor I've had. Very cheerful and always willing to help. She is also very patient and will help work through tough problems and equations with you and the class. Also very involved around campus as well.

Elaine is one of the nicest people you will meet. She is a great teacher and even better person. She cares about her students more than any teacher i have had. I continue to talk to her in the summer, even though I'm not taking classes, because she is a great person to talk to about any career fields. She completely goes out of her way to help.

She's an amazing lab instructor. She's friendly, has a good grasp on procedures, and is super-sweet and really fun to deal with. Makes o-chem lab far less unpleasant than it could be. Dunno why she didn't get a "hot" rating, either... very cute. Which isn't relevant to her teaching, but is always an added bonus.

Really sweet and nice professor, she geniunely cares about her students. The class is very easy, as a class on college skills should be. and you wont use the book, but "technically" you're supposed to read, but all the info is presented through the occasional lectures. Take her if you can!

Elaine is one of the best people you'll ever have as a professor. She's very helpful and cares about her students. Do your work and you'll get an A. She cancels class from time to time, so check your e-mails. Class isn't really mandatory, but I would still show up out of respect. Sometimes, I would go just to check with her and then leave.

She has mandatory attendance but all her powerpoints are online. Consists of a midterm, a research paper, and final. Easy to pass, just show up, study, and start the paper early. You will be fine.

BEST EOP professor! Her lectures are brief and clear. She understands her students, looks out for them and is willing to help. Go to class because she takes attendance but usually ends it early. TAKE HER!!!! She doesn't really use the text book so don't buy it.

Professor Bernal is awesome! This year was her first time teaching Chem100 for the fall semester, so she did struggle in some parts. However, I am sure she's going to get better. Overall, the class was not too bad. Highly recommend her! Labs are not difficult and you get quizzes based on the homework assignments on the lab day.

Elaine is probably the most understanding and realistic professor on campus. Not interested in chemistry? Doesn't matter. Three midterms, one final with open notes. She'll review material the class before, so really you'll have to try really hard to fail this class. Get a good lab instructor, and you'll have an easy A.

Best and easiest class I've ever had in college hands down. Bernal is the most understanding, realistic professor I've ever had. You can turn in things late and she doesn't care, she's super nice, never had a problem with her. Homework and classwork was easy, tests were WORD FOR WORD the homework. Would definitely take again and HIGHLY recommend.

If you are looking for an easy A to get chem out of the way... TAKE HER. Barely any homework and gives study guides for exams which is basically the exam.

Easiest class ever!! Take her for an easy A. I never even took notes, I just showed up for the in class assignments. She is very sweet and very kind. DO NOT buy the book!!! You will not need it, just buy the access code to do your homework. The reviews on the homework website is literally the exams. I just remembered the answers and got all A's.

I took this class over summer and it was so easy. Do not buy the textbook, only the code for homework. Tests questions are taken from online class reviews. Class is interesting because you learn about real world applications to common everyday things and there are in class activities. She's a fun chill professor you can have a conversation with.

Easy chemistry class, just show up and do the in-class activities. Test reviews count as homework and the same questions will show up on the exams. One group project at the end of the semester but its fairly easy with little to no stress. Don't buy the online text book just get the code for the online homework. Take this class, you won't regret it.

Dr. Bernal is the best! She is the sweetest and very helpful if you are having trouble understanding a topic!I highly recommend you take her! The class consisted of 4 tests, but all had questions straight from the study guide. Also had one big group project, but it was very straight forward and easy.

If you can't get an A in this class you need to go back to elementary school. The tests are LITERALLY the same as the online exam reviews. You don't even need to study. I barely ever showed up to the class and got an A.

Easiest course ever. The exams are the EXACT SAME questions as the online hw. Memorize the hw answers and you are guaranteed an A in the course. There's no way you CAN'T pass. You get participation points by using a phone app, but you don't have to go to class to do it (can access anywhere). Just tell someone to text you when she posts questions.

Homework is just the study guides for exams. Exams are the exact same questions, just memorize the answer and you'll be done so fast. You do have to buy an app to do in class activity but easy A

A sweet professor who cares. If you fail this class, what are you even doing?! HW questions are exactly like the exams. No need for the book but sadly you have to buy it to do the homework. Professor makes the class easy. She takes a lot, its a big lecture hall and she does her best to be transparent as possible. Some people are rude to her, some plain don't listen, but she is very patient and persistent in making sure everyone understands. Just listen and you'll do well in this class. It really is your fault if you don't!

She is the absolute best. The most accomodating teacher and has the best heart. I am not a science person but am going to get an A in this class. I could not say enough good things about her. TAKE HER

Amazing professor, she was super good. I hadn't taken a chem class since sophomore year and she made she sure to refresh our memory. Her test were easy as long as you did the homework! I wish she could teach all my science classes

Professor Bernal is so understanding and caring towards her student. You won't regret taking her. The exams are from the Connect homework which pretty much tells you the answers for each question. We also use the CHEM 101 app after lectures. In terms of labs, just make sure to read the lab manual before attending the class due to pre-lab quizzes.

Tests are based of homework so studying is extremely easy. The lab portion of this class is expensive. You need to buy a lab coat, goggles, and the lab manual. Definitely take this class tho, easy pass.

If you're reading these 5/5 stars thinking you're going to get the same experience, don't. Most of them are pre-covid and her online format is fine but it's not great. It was fine for the first couple weeks, but she gets really pushed back on her recorded lectures and is a couple of days behind. Exam FRQ takes up to 2 weeks to be graded. Not bad.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! WHEN A STUDENT DOESN'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, YOU EMAIL HER, AND NOT A MINUTE LATER, SHE RESPONDS (WHICH SHE IS DEFINITELY GOOD AT). She's very encouraging, understanding and pretty funny. I would definitely recommend students to take this professor. Anything you need, she's quick to help. Keep up the good work Dr. Bernal!!

All test questions are from homework, FRQs are easy to answer, and she replies fast to emails. Downside: grades too slow, post lecture videos late.

The multiple choice of the exams are based on the homework. The final exam was only multiple choice which is nice. There is a lot of work to do. Takes time to return work graded. When you have a question she is accessible and willing to help her students.

Asynchronous. A lot of HW but they're easy. HW on Connect and Chem101. There's like 10 labs but they're all pretty easy. Exams are MC & on Beachboard & based off the Connect HW. The Chem101 HW is a little harder/more annoying. Exams have an FRQ but the final doesn't. Easy A but a good amount of busy work. The professor is really nice and caring!

Take this professor if you want to finish your GE with an A. There were a lot of tedious weekly assignments and the class was somewhat expensive, but I can't complain since I got an A. There were 3 exams and one final. The three exams have a written portion, which was a bit hard, but you have three days to finish it. Lab portion was easy as well.

Probably the easiest class Ive ever taken. You can look up most of the hw answers online. Labs are also online. She has live sessions every Thursday which are optional but you get an extra point for joining. Exams are exactly the same questions from the hw.

This is by far the easiest class I have taken in college. There is a bunch of hw but super easy. The MC part of the exam is all from the Connect hw and the FRQs for the lab aren't too bad. You'll have to youtube some problems though since she doesn't explain thoroughly in the lecture vids. EC is offered but you won't need it to pass with an A.

I have always struggled with math and sciences so I was terrified to take chemistry. I went in aiming for a C- and ended up with an A+. Prof. Bernal makes the class super easy and the exams are 100% based off homework questions. She puts an emphasis on effort and homework over exams which I really appreciate. If you dont get chem take her!!

Great teacher. While the summer session is fast and intense, Dr. Bernal made it manageable while not sacrificing what we get out of the course. Yes, Chemistry is very tough, but Dr. Bernal uses every strategy in the book to make this class fun, enjoyable and not stressful! Exam FRQs can be tough, but a little practice is all you need. Extra credit!

Easy A for a GE class. No need to attend any meetings. It is kinda of an expensive class, but the HW is easy. Tests are based/ word-for-word from the Connect HW!

Textbook is $70 and Chem101 app is $25. Dr. Bernal is really helpful and truly wants students to succeed. But this is still a chem class so you definitely have to put in the work. Work is due every 2 weeks. Lab assignments, worksheets, and online homework. She responds to emails and has a discord for questions.

She is the best! Makes you feel like you're one of her friends. Extremely polite and caring. This is most fun and easiest class ever!

I LITERALLY GOT AN A IN CHEM AND I SUCK AT CHEM!!!!! ITS SO EASY TO GET AN A IN THIS CLASS!!! Don't get overwhelmed by the "number" of assignments she gives, IT'S NOTHING! Even though she assigns multiple homework assignments, IT'S SO EASY TO DO! All her work is reasonable and nothing hard! Even the labs, it's so easy! TRUST ME AND TAKE HER NOW!!!

This class was the easiest I've taken in all my time at csulb. There are a lot of busy work assignments each week but they are super easy. Tests are graded really forgivingly and almost everything is on quizlet. There are also a lot of extra credit opportunities. Take this class if you're afraid of chemistry!!

I was scared to take chem but professor Bernal made this class baby easy. If any questions you got she will respond to you quickly. There is homework but it's very simple and manageable. Her exam questions can be found in the homework, the only tricky part may be the free response but she always reviews practice problems. Highly recommend!

The professor was amazing and so easy going. Aktiv HW, Connect HW, and lab worksheet due every friday. It looks like a lot but they were easy. Each exam had a MC portion and a short answer portion, and they were open for a couple of days. 4 exams total. It's an easy class, so take this for GE science with lab.

Great professor! She's so funny and SO sweet. Weekly assignments and 3 exams (multiple choice & free response). Make sure you ask if you don't understand something because she does examples during lectures that'll REALLY help on exams and homework. Overall, pretty easy class with a caring professor :)

Unfortunately, you have to pay in order to do the homework and get credit. The multiple-choice exam questions can be found in the homework. However, the free response portion can be a bit tricky.

She is really great and seems to care about us and what she does. Bernal is funny and kind since the first ever lecture. You feel really tuned in especially when I hate chemistry. But I start to care due to Bernal's teaching. Without a doubt one of the best professors, I have had so far.

paying an additional $100 for the textbook and homework is so ridiculous but you actually need to. other than that, easy class. dr. bernal is very communicative + understanding + tries to form connections even though it's an online class. she gives off "mom vibes" in a good way!! the labs only met 8 times and there were 2 (optional) in-person ones

I struggle with chemistry and science in general so sometimes the work is overwhelming. But overall, Professor Bernal is so helpful and made the material easy to understand and get through. Recommend her class to fulfill a GE but the only downside is the expensive program needed to complete the homework.

One of the best and easiest online chem courses ever. No need to buy the $100+ textbook because most likely you'll never read from it, however, you need to buy two homework programs. labs are alright, sometimes it's challenging, sometimes its not. two "big" labs in-person or you can do it remote but its more work.

This class was so chill i lowkey didn't attend lecture at all after the first meeting or study that much and i still passed with an A+ so likeee.. Everybody was saying shes kind and demure and I could definitely see that in the first meeting. If u took chem in hs this class will be a ride in the park it's so easy

The easiest science class I have ever taken. She's so sweet and really chill with late work. The labs are just tedious worksheets, some of them are confusing, but overall still easy. Attendance isn't mandatory and the labs end a month early. If you need a chem class, I highly recommend this one.

Always sucked at chem but this class was so easy, thanks to prof Bernal. Amazingly sweet and patient. I took this class when they used the RealChem site for the first time, so they weren't strict about late assignments at all. Definitely recommend if you're just trying to knock out GE requirements.
