He is a very good eacher. She gives you very good adivce about your papers. Very easy class with her.
Seriouslly , if you have a **** , stay far , far away. You will watch you fellow female students give the same test answers asyou and pass , while you fail. Even after reading the texts mulitple times , I still failed the tests. If you are a feminist lesbian by all means , but otherwise...RUN
She is nice and helpful, but the class lacks structure. If people aren't participating in your class, you're going to be bored real bad... if they do, it is decent. Most of the tests are pretty easy it seems, but w/ 3 weeks left in the semester I have NO idea what my grade is... sort of frustrating.
She's cool and all but very unorganized. She missed alot of classes and is very strict with attendance. She's a hypocrit. BAD teacher, please don't take her
ewww...that appearance this is way gross, anyway-she's an absolutely horrible teacher because she's extremely unorganized and is not helpful. her personal bias' get in the way of her teaching, and thus, grades quite unfairly.
The class really isn't that hard and the teacher isn't bad at all. She knows how to help out really well and it's easy if you do everything on time.

I am disappointed in her class. Out of all the classes I have taken, this one seems to be the hardest. It's a time consuming class and graded too harshly. I would not reccommend taking her class. The class is tedious and she's very critical. If you feel like you are an advanced writer, take her...but if you are average writer, the it's bad idea.

You have a ton of reading and writing in this class, be preparred to work. It is possible to do it but its stressful, you need to do the work if youre in this class. Be able to manage time well - shes a worker
There is a lot of reading and writing. If you stay on top of things its really easy to get an A. Also if you show effort, and ask questions you will get on her good side. I did these things and I got an A PLUS when I was sick she gave me an extention. Nice lady, and i believe she really cares about her students.
Be ready to work your tail off for this lady. She makes you read and analyze a lot of essays from the book, plus makes you write multiple drafts of your own essays. She is a very tough grader, so if your writing skills aren't up to par, find another professor. She gives you a weekly schedule and will always help you if you ask.
I agree with the last review. Dr. Cullen is a very hard grader and expects a great deal from her students. However, she teaches very well and her activities and workshops are very helpful for learning the writing process. She is always willing to proofread per appointment or during office hours. Very helpful for students.
indeed i understand the difference between you& me ,but friend of mine you must not take a class with this person , becasuse of her low moral expectance of teaching the students what they need.

I took Miss Cullen for Lit of Diversity... The semester isn't quite over but I know I'm getting near an A. If you don't like her, you must be stupid and lazy. Do your work... you get points for coming to class... tests are easy, & she grades fair. She makes you read poetry and short stories... a couple novels too... all interesting though.
Class was pretty easy but it sucked that your couldn't miss more than 4 classes. She's a nice lady and means well but class can get boring. Very few tests and mostly participation points. If you read the poems and stories you'll do fine.
She did not stay on topic and she talked about things that had nothing to do with the class.
Horrible teacher, expects you to write analytically about poems that have no really meaning, and shouldn't have been published in the first place. Mandatory attendance, she failed her own standard. If you set a standard you must hold yourself to it, sorry if she has personal issues, I'm paying for her to teach. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS FROM HER.
Unorgainized and unprepared
really strict teacher, crazy to get along with. has no idea of what she is teach. very hard on student. hard greader, does not disclose greades to students, really doesn't care of the success of her students. just all out mean and would not recommend this crazy lady to anyone, but if you get her pray to god you pass.
she doesn't care about her students. conferences are horrible and she is not helpful at all. she taught at other major colleges, so i think she doesn't care that much about normandale community college.
She is not good at teaching. She cancels class so much it is hard to learn anything. First week of class she assigned a 6 page paper.
Dr. Cullen is a very hard grader. It also takes her forever to grade things. I'm in her online course and her directions are so vague and hard to understand. There is very little direction. She is a very tough grader. I would not suggest taking freshman comp with Dr. Cullen.
I took her online class and she wasn't really helpful at all. She would leave assignments and random times and give you little time to do a lot of work. She also took FOREVER to grade things and was a really hard grader. The assignments were never clear either and people always asked a lot of questions.

I took her online freshman comp class. I barely passed the class average was 52%. Assignments were not clear, hard grader, will give zeros liberally. I DO NOT recommend her.
Horrible teacher. She expects you to know things before she teaches them to you. I watched my class go from 30 students to only 9. The rest had to drop because they were failing. Get on her good side by showing up to class everyday and talking to her during her office hours and she wont be so strict when grading your papers. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!
Would not recommend her online class, very difficult with a low rate of passing students. She does not really teach anything, just gives out assignments. If you are sick, late or in an emergency she will give you no extension of time. Honestly I did not learn anything from this class.
By far one of the worst teachers at Normandale. if she does not like you, you will fail. very rude in class. overall not a class you would want to take.
As the rest of the reviews clearly state, she is an awful "teacher". She takes forever to grade. She forgets to write instructions in assignments, and you will lost points for mistakes on her part. Her assignments are very unclear. Simply put, ELAINE CULLEN SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING.
She is an unreasonable grader. She doens't give partial credit or credit for effort. It is all or nothing with her. She makes class harder than it needs to be.

I took her online class, it being my first college class. It has also been years since I have been in high school. At first I thought she was tough, but if you read the instructions fully it's not that hard. Tip- Use Grammar and style spell check in word..it helps eliminate a ton of mistakes she takes points off on. I ended up with an A!
SHE IS THE WORST!!! whenever I asked for help and went in at a scheduled time she would never show up to help me. She grades super hard. I even got a 0/60 on my 10 page research paper. Besides that she is not willing to help you and doesn't care about issues you may have outside of class. I do not recommend her. 15/32 ppl in class dropped her class
I took the online class. This teacher is insane. She doesn't teach, all she does is put assignments up and tell you to look at your writing handbook. She will tell you your rough drafts are excellent, and then fail your final paper. She gave 40% of my class absolute 0's on the last 130 point paper. I got a D, and had the second highest grade.
she said attendance was mandatory but i found out someone who missed most of the classes got a better grade then me. she was never clear about anything and the only good thing was she bought us pizza on the last day.
Elaine Cullen is a very tough grader but overall a decent teacher. It was very possible to get a good grade by doing all the work to the level of quality that was clearly stated in instructions and examples. I don't understand why people have a problem with her. I took the class online and in my class several people didn't do any work at all.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! She is a nasty woman who takes forever to grade your papers and then hands out Fs like it is her job. She should realize bad grades all around are a poor reflection on her. She has no idea what she is even teaching. It's Freshman Comp, which means I am not a professional writer and don't plan to be. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Her ability to convey complex reasoning is incredible. Her honesty and her ability to be direct is wonderful. She is thorough when she proofreads papers, and she teaches quite effectively how we (the students) can positively affect each other and the work we bring. So thought-FULL! Articulate and guiding--I recommend her to almost anyone!
I loved this class and learned a lot from it. The room setting was really open and casual. This was a memoir writing class and it was more personal and sometimes hard to talk about. But, I think that she gave us really good books to read from and handouts to help us come up with our own ideas. She was a very sweet lady and not nasty at all.
The class is a writing class, so of-course it will be boring. Although professor Cullen was very helpful, and I did gain some useful skills for college papers. She can be strict sometimes, but she is very clear about her standards and due dates which I liked.
Shes a really hard teacher. I did learn a lot from the class and somehow pulled off a B. She is very strict on her grading and the requirments for papers. I got 0 out of 70 on a paper because I had one less database source than what she required. I had other government sources, but she wasn't having it.
Wish I could drop the class. I haven't received higher than 20% on anything. Not clear with what is expected and you aren't allowed to make any mistakes. Very disappointing class.
I regret taking this class. I am taking it online and her expectations and instructions aren't clear at all. My best score so far is 5/20 even though I am trying and doing what the instructions say. I will probably withdraw from the class if it doesn't improve. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone
She is a terrible teacher. I'm normally an extremely good English student but she has failed me on two papers so far. She says drafts are really good then fails the final copy. She is very rude to students and doesn't understand that people have jobs and other important things. I would never recommend her to anyone, ever. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
SO EXTREMELY rude. Not bad with what is expected in her assignments but her overall attitude towards students is what makes me hate the class. She is blatantly rude to most students and has been to me unnecessarily many times. I always dread this class and her mean persona.

I thought Dr. Cullen was a good professor. If you were nice, she was nice back. She has clear rules that need to be followed, but she was a fair grader. I worked hard and got an A. As long as you follow her instructions and participate you will be fine.

This class is ridiculous. Cullen makes this class the equivalent to a senior year English class at Harvard for a journalism major. She'll drop your grade if you miss more than one weeks worth of school a the end of the semester and hands out F's like it's her job. She can be a nice woman but it depends on the day. Sometimes she can be overbearing.
I found her to be very rude and unhelpful. She would tell you that your paper sucked right in your face. All but one got Fs on a paper and she blamed it all on us even though its clear there was a mis-communication. If you miss one peer review day you can turn in your paper. My doctors note barley changed anything. She is just mean.

Professor Cullen is very strict and grades tough. If you go in for office hours she will be more than willing to help you to get a good grade. If you show her you're willing to work, she'll help you. Really helped me become a better writer.

Dr. Cullen can be a tough grader, but she will help you and work with you if you communicate with her. Meet with her during her office hours and ASK if you don't understand something. Some of the due dates, and essay guidelines can be confusing, but if you bring your paper in she will tell you if you're in the right direction. She WANTS to help.
Dr Cullen is an excellent professor! She is tough but fair in her grading- take her if you are serious about learning because she will push you to improve which is what teaching is about! If you are confused or need help she is more than willing to meet with you and help you- be respectful and willing to learn and you will gain a lot!
At first you think she is a hard grader and can expect a lot from her students, but you will find she really wants her students to learn and is more than helpful on privately talking with you and answering any question you have. I felt that this teacher challenged me well to my level of writing. Other people in my class REALLY struggled. She is really strict about late work and attendance. NO late work and NO excused absences, if you miss too many days your grade goes WAY down. I got a good grade though because I did every thing she asked.
Just finished a class with her and will be taking another next semester. She is a tough grader and makes you work for the grade, but if you meet with her outside of class she is very helpful. Nice enough teacher.
She is willing to help, but the way her class is set up there is no room for improvement. If you are a perfect writer than you will do fine, but in my case I wanted to learn from her but it was difficult considering if you did poorly on one assignment you were already at a C.

I'm not a terrible writer I know that for sure yet I'm failing this class. I've asked for help and she literally told me to re read the assignment. I followed the assignments. I got super confused on a due date and she made no exceptions, basically told me to withdrawal (almost towards the end of the semester too). Terrible teacher.
I took online Freshman Comp from Elaine. It was a lot of work and she is an incredibly hard grader. There are a lot of assignments due and I felt like I had to check D2L everyday because the deadlines were never very clear. She can be rude and she never gives you that much feedback. I wouldn't take a class from her again.
Don't take this class... Instructions and due dates are super unclear. Told me my prewriting and rough draft were excellent work and then gave me a C on the paper. Doesn't teach anything, only gives you assignments and grades them.
Awful instructor. Gives horrible feedback, never instructional. There was no rubric given, and she is VERY specific on what she wants and she keeps it to herself. Worst teacher I've ever had, even though she fell and hurt herself which prevented her from teaching about halfway through the semester. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS - AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Dr. Cullen was a great professor. Her class is very self-driven, so make sure you do all the things she assigns to understand what she expects. At times, her grading method is confusing and she isn't very understanding when it comes to late work. She did round my grade at the end of the semester. I would take a class with her again, cautiously.
This was one of my favorite classes. Don't get me wrong she expects you to do the work. Do not slack, make sure your deadlines are met, and use the resources she gives you to help with your writing. If you do all three of those things you can succeed. If you have questions email her. Expects students to be self driven.

Freshman Comp. was a struggle, but she is a really good professor and all of the assignments she gave had a good purpose.
She will give you terrible feedback. She will tell you to make changes to your paper then take points off for those changes. Her utilization of the class time is terrible. Do not take any classes with her unless you want a ridiculous challenge of meeting unrealistic standards and trying to deal with this "teacher". Overall Rating: 1/10
I found her to be a teacher that was hard to be personal with. I felt as though my success didn't really matter to her which was frustrating because in order to pass the class you have to be extremely aware of what is happening in the class. The due dates would change, expectations were unclear and the help she gave was minimal and not helpful.
Im currently in her class. I became very sick for a week to the point where I had to go to the ER and she isnt giving me credit for the assignments that I had to turn in late because I was gone. I have her class tomorrow and I really hope I crash my car on the way there so I never have to see her again.
Her policy on missed assignments cause for zeros on your papers. You miss one thing well dont expect a grade on your paper and dont expect a supportive comment on that paper all you'll get is you should consider dropping my class.
