EASY.
She's pretty good. You have to do a presentation, but its like 10 ppl per group. CURVES midterm, the 2 papers, and final. So overall, she's nice, fair, and prepare to watch videos. No surprise quizzes or anything like that. Recommended. If you dunno material, expect a B; if you do tho, expect an A!
Seriously... i think its just common sense because i felt that I wasn't doing that great in the class and turned out I gotta A. People were freaking out, yet turned out good. So i don't think theres much to worry. she's just boring that's all. OH.. Participate, she'll love you!!!!
You work hard and learn a lot. Readings are heavy. You have to attend and should talk in class; this is for law! Keep up with current events too and proofread your papers. Any problems? Go see Dr. Draper. She's cool and knows about professional success. Ask about career choices.
She is nice and helpful, super smart too. She lectures the entire time but will take comments and answers any questions you have. Tests are HARD but she grades fairly and has a curve. Pay attention in class OR read the book and you'll be fine. You'll work hard and read a lot, but you'll learn a lot and learn to think differntly after this.
Dr. Draper was great. She was very receptive to questions, extremely well-versed in the course material, and is always willing to help students. I don't understand why people think she's incredibly hard. Then again, college isn't meant for everybody. Tests are based on the assigned reading and on lecture. Focus on those - you'll be fine.
Professor Draper is a well accomplished teacher, she is a little boring sometimes and her reading her notes is a little irritating as well, but her films are interesting. She grades on a huge curve so if you study your readings you'll do just fine. I didn't study for my first midterm and got a B
She's a good prof.her lectures are very interesting as well as the videos.do the readings and you will be fine on her exams. You do have to do a few assigments but they are not hard. Take her she's good and you will learn
Talks a lot (nonstop talking sometimes...) and really quick. 2 exams, a take home essay or a research paper. She gives movie which relate to the lectures (all of them are quick fascinating). She gives extra credit. There is also a group presentation. Does expect you to know your stuff when coming to class.
One of my favorite professors so far at college. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn, and is willing to work. Their are two tests (midterm and final) and either three essays or a research paper. Attendance is mandatory for a good grade (note-taking is crucial anyway), and there is extra credit for coming to class and bringing books.
Draper's an amazing mind. Students rating professors poorly may do so because they don't like to concentrate and study hard, or are not interested in the subjects they select. Draper is a great professor with incredible knowledge in her fields, and she is willing to go out of her way to support students who want to learn. Why are you in school?
Professor Draper is one of the best teachers at CSULA. You gotta do the reading, come to class and THINK! I improved my writing, made a class presentation (even tho I'm shy), and understood hard professional readings. She was helpful with giving me and my friend career advice and our applications to law school and police academy (we both got in!!)
A great class on Environmental Policy, Law, Society. Dr. Draper is an expert and a passionate teacher. She is interesting and suportive. I don't usually like discussions but they are awesome in her class, on current events and the readings. I feel I have a chance to improve society. She helped me with career decisions. Be ready to work and learn!
Draper is the best prof I've had at this school, but you really have to do the reading, come to class, and speak up. This class opened my eyes about how people work in society. Dr. Draper is enthusiastic about teaching and pushes students to do their best. I upgraded my ambition to go for a profession not just a job. Hope to take her again.
Everyone Can pass her class you just need to listen, take good notes, and pay attention to everything she teaches.
Draper is a very hard teacher, but honestly one of the best classes i have ever taken. I was always interested during the lecture, she doesnt go over the readings which made attending the lecture mandetory. If you do not do the readings you will fail the midterm and final. If you take her be prepared to work and read a lot.
This professor is an amazing individual. She really cares about her students and their success. She expects us to learn (which is a given cause she's a professor) but she works with you and tries her best to help you succeed. I highly recommend her for everyone!
Prof Drapermight on of the most rigorous professors at CSULA, but her passion for student growth is beyond belief. She values education and the amount of liberation it holds for her students. She can be critical, but for means of constructive criticism. She held me accountable for getting into law school and excelling as an attorney.
Her lectures are really long. She assigns a lot of assignments but they are easy, as long as you do not do them the day before it is due. Take home exams, easy as well but like I said before you cannot do them the day before they are due because you actually have to think about the answer. You have to read the book at take notes, it is a must.
Professor Draper was extremely knowledgeable about the environmental law. Her textbooks were thoughtfully selected and her exams were challenging. Further, Dr. Draper went above and beyond to ensure you did well in her class. I would definitely take another course with her if I had the opportunity.
Dr. Draper is passionate and c omitted to her students. Her knowledge of sociology and the world is incomparable and simply immpressive. Her teaching style is open n interactive for her students who love to share their own experiences in class. I highly respect her integrity n care of being the most erectile prof. Simply awsome. Changed my life!
Took her this summer 15' she's tough when it comes to the readings, she expects everyone to read before class. It is easy to loose interest so I suggest you read all readings, you should get an A. I got a B only because I was lazy to read. 3 papers 3 pages long, midterm and final multiple choice. Group project too. Deducts pts if you miss class
You get out what you put in. Definitely not an easy A if you don't do the readings or go to class (tests cover lectures and readings). T here are movies though which were a great refresher of reading/lecture concepts and very informative but maybe a little old in date. Really great to take if you have an interest in sociology and the environment.
Best professor I've ever had. Sets high standards and expectations but if you give her your all she will support you and help you in regards to her class as well as any future academic and career endeavors. She truly cares about her students as she guided me through applying to graduate school and wrote me an excellent letter of recommendation.
Expects you to read approx 100 pgs. before every class, & the 2 textbooks are possibly the driest ones she can find. Her lectures are interesting, but that's the only positive thing I can say. She expects you to practically memorize the 2 books, does not tell you what to memorize for the exams & assigns 3 essays at the end. Unreasonable work load!
Great teacher. Totally knows her subjects and is passionate about helping us understnd them. Readings are normal, exams are fair. She gets the class involved in discussions and will talk more in her office if you want. I'm changing my major to Sociology. We discussed careers and ways to make society better, which I plan to do.
An outstanding professor. Has high academic standards and high expectations of her students. A professor who is going to push you to do your best work. Her expectations are matched by her devotion to students. She is extremely accessible outside of class and willing to spend time giving students detailed feedback on their work.
Dr. Draper is an amazing professor! She is extremely passionate and knowledgable about various areas of study. She has high expectations, but goes above and beyond to ensure that students understand the material and succeed academically. My advice? Take advantage of her office hours! She's an invaluable source regarding academics and careers.
Dr. Draper is an awesome teacher. She knows her field, degrees in sociology and law, and makes class fun while caring about teaching us a lot. Reading is serious but on target to be discussed in class. She gets students to know each other and participate, not sit like silent zombies (LOL). Prof. Draper advises about grad school choices too.
Great class. Take even if not Soc major. Brings to light how the law really operates Dr. Draper makes you question things you never considered. Must read Taking Sides and know textbook. She is easily the most caring and understanding prof I've ever had, and will hold you to your highest. You must work hard, but well worth the payoff.
I completed an honors thesis with Dr. Draper. Law&Society students should highly consider this (Grad school). She dedicates herself to you and will make you a better writer and thinker. She truly went above & beyond in supporting my project and guided me through every stage to ensure I was on the right track. She will challenge you to do your best.
Textbook is reviewed in class though I highly recommend taking notes. You must read and know the cases assigned in Taking Sides. 1 Group project is graded credit/no credit. Even if you understand the material Dr. Draper will teach you to analyze the law more critically. Great class. I worked hard and it paid off. I suggest optional research paper.
Professor Draper is willing to go out of her way to help her students succeed. Her feedback is amazing and will help you grow as a student. Her lectures will open your eyes to new perspectives that are life changing. She will encourage you to pursue a higher education and will be willing to help you with a smile.
she talks too much.
Dr. Draper is a remarkable professor. Shes thoughtful, knowledgeable, supportive and works tirelessly to help students succeed. Ive taken 2 classes with her and I can honestly say that Im better for having done so.
she was a hard and confusing professor
Professor Draper teaches great courses, with a caring feeling for her students and a concern for future careers. She makes you want to do the work you NEED to do to move up in the world. You can tell that she wants to be in that classroom with so much energy, and talks about real events happening in the world off campus. Fair grader, smart lady.
One of the best professors i have ever had! Her class is super laid back, funny, and extremely intelligent . Her grading is not hard at all and she is super flexible with due dates. She goes above and beyond her duty to help others. I would definitely take her again.
I genuinely loved this professor. She really wants her students to do their best. One thing though I must say, keep up with the readings and take notes during the movies because they will show up in both the midterm and final. Also, keep the phones away, she does have a problem with phones, but come on guys, we spend hefty money for school!
This was a very tedious class and the tests were extremely hard. Office hours only one day each week, but the hours run all day until 4 pm and no other accommodations made. Dr. Draper is a genuinely kind person and will take time with you if you ask and support you. Interesting subject, although lectures are hurried so write fast!
Never again.
Recommend if you are a graduate student. She is not approachable. Loads of reading and tests r hard.
This semester was different from the pandemic (DUH), but it really gave us a chance to see professor's true colors. Professor Draper was terrible. She didn't support us in this internship class. She added more work than she should have, given how stressful this semester was. She left me feel unsupported in this class and I would not recommend it
This is by far the most confused I've ever been in a class while at CSULA. She is very nice but these topics can be very boring. you have to do a 30 minute group presentation. midterm, and 3 final essays three pages each.
Prof. Draper is one of the most supportive, flexible instructors that I've had at this school. She goes above and beyond to help students and teaches with such clarity and genuine empathy. This pandemic has been stressful for a lot of us; having an instructor as fair and caring as Dr. Draper makes this all so much easier. Highly recommend.
Interesting topics, awesome professor. Draper is definitely among the best of the sociology department faculty. Consistently fair grading and clear guidelines made this course one of my favorites. Exactly what a great college class should be.
I took an undergraduate directed study with Dr. Draper last fall. She is an excellent professor who listens to students' needs/goals and utilizes her skills to guide her student towards success. This course allowed me to explore any research topic that intrigued my personal interest and help me grow with much confidence. Recommend her class!
Dr. Draper is bright, positive, and so impressively intelligent. She strives to be each student's number one supporter and always does so with a smile and the utmost professionalism. The amount of growth and improvement students experience in her classes is truly amazing. If you want to do better and be better, Draper is the one to get you there.
Dr. Draper's Environmental Policy, Law, and Society class is great. She is well versed in her profession; she delivers clear and concise lectures, and she uses real-world examples. Even with all her credentials (Ph.D., J.D.) she is very much in touch with her students. She genuinely wants her students to succeed in and out of the classroom.
Professor Draper is a brilliant instructor; lectures are straightforward and enlightening. Shes also a very warm person; she is willing to work individually with students to help them achieve their goals. Clear communication of expectations and transparent grading. Environmental law, policy, and society course was awesome! Definitely recommended.
Beyond boring! she is so unorganized and that stresses you out so much. Worst class ever !
Professor Draper gives many hours a week for office hours. If you need anything from her, she will go out of her way to help you. However, she also expects her students to do the work. She works hard, and so must her students. The class discussions and material were insightful and thought-provoking. And she is especially knowledgeable about law.
Professor Draper is extremely organized and insightful. She always meets with students and tries to understand any situation they might have going on. The lectures are amazing and she lets students incorporate their thoughts and opinions. The people who gave her a low rating did not do the homework and missed class.
Be prepared not so sure if I was naive, but I expected her to be more understandable with this pandemic. It was hard in terms of how theres no study guide for her exams you get the full class time with 50 plus questions, no powerpoint for lectures, so pay close attention it was difficult to focus. Readings were good, final is 3 essays plus an exam
Theres no study guide, slides or recorded lectures. Beware she's really picky in the 8 reflections she gives, she's constantly going off topic in lectures. For the final she gives an exam plus 3 individual essay or the exam plus a research paper. Theres also a group project that you must do and present for 20 min then 10 min to do a q&A.
Professor Draper is very passionate about teaching. She provides excellent feedback and does everything she can to help students pass. Attendance does count so try to avoid skipping lectures. Workload is more than manageable.
Great lectures and discussions on important social issues. Dr. Draper's class review is very helpful for the exams. Slides and videos are interesting. She cares about her students and gets to know us and our future plans. Highly recommended!
She is the most stressful prof!! NO powerpoint, study guide, or any help to prepare for the exams! Tests are heavily based on 300-page textbook!! Attendance is mandatory and she forces everyone to turn on their cameras even during the pandemic. She was not understanding to students who worked or were affected by covid!
Interesting topics and discussions are straightforward. Dr. Draper is challenging but fair; she is very approachable and available for students. She hands out her finals almost a month in advance and provides excellent feedback. Lecture notes and reading ahead/ coming prepared for the class are key. Definitely recommend this class.
Professor Draper was a great teacher. It's clear she loves her classes. She was very helpful and understanding. She was willing to help me out with my final paper. She is the only professor who is willing to talk to her students and to offer advice on papers you are writing. While she might be picky about some things, it's only to improve the paper
No powerpoint presentations. So much information for an intro class. Tests are 80 questions, directly from lecture or deep into the book. Participation matters but answer has to be 100% correct otherwise she will just call on someone else. Doesn't provide good lectures with out going on a tangent at times. Would not take again. Very boring.
I didnt like this professor. Theres no PowerPoints, you just have to listen and take notes. At the end of the semester you have to write 3 pages.
Lectures are clear, well-organized, lively. The class is about real world problems & policies. Class discussions are interesting, useful for career prep. Tests are fair, based on readings and lectures, and not hard to foresee the questions. We got plenty of resources to help. Professor Draper is helpful, will discuss grad school! Great course!
A very well informed and caring teacher. Her subjects are useful for careers and she can help with advice about grad school and professions. The exams are challenging but fair, after good study prep she provides. She talks fast but always ready to explain and discuss. Knows sociology, law, and environment! One of the best.
Great introduction to interesting topics in sociology. Professor Draper cares about her students, is clear in teaching, fair in tests. I started this subject in community college but had to drop for work conflict. Here it was much more adult, focused on important social issues. Good class discussions, useful for my career. Impressive teacher!
very confusing, unclear instructions on certain assignments. Would make you feel stupid if you did not understand how to do the assignment. Narrow-minded and unwilling to help out
Her approach is for no one to be left behind. I thought she was tough, but I realized her objective is to set you up to succeed in the real world. I improved my writing because of her willingness to help. She stresses the fact that hard work pays off. Great teacher, I became a better student after taking her class.
Professor Draper is friendly, well-organized, and has a caring attitude that makes you want to learn and improve. She helped me learn how to study and write a resume to get jobs. You need to attend class and pay attention. She's real clear, knows her subject. With her support, I was accepted into an advanced career program. I highly recommend her!
She's really tough. The quizzes are incredibly difficult and hard to read, so much that I didn't even finish the first quiz because it took me about 5 times to read each question. At the end of the semester you have to write 3 papers that are 3 pages long on the course material, so if you didn't read you're right out of luck. Grade criteria was bad
The professor lectures for all class time. She only reads off her papers, which is super boring! 5 assignments, 1 Midterm, and 1 presentation. Three essays besides a final at the end of the semester. Not hard, too much information!! I would never retake her. She's friendly, though; she helps her students with resumes, applications, internships.
Interesting discussions with lots of chances for participation. We discussed real world social problems. Exams are normal. Do your reading and you'll do fine. Dr. Draper is very helpful in offering advice about not just course topics but career opportunities too. It was cool to get to know other serious students in this class and to learn from her.
Professor Draper's internship class was the most valuable class I took at CSULA. The internships available are varied and worthwhile, and a great experience. Professor Draper is very supportive of her students and is always willing to offer help and guidance with in class assignments or out of class with grad school/resume/career advice.
I am so glad I found this internship class. It helped me find a future career employer. I learned about writing a resume, making a better impression, and connecting my skills with my dream job. Professor Draper gave me great advice, helped me find the right internship, and made sure my internship was a good use of my time. Really helpful, thanks!
Prof. Draper's course is moderately difficult, but doable for even I who am an average student. Her lectures are very insightful and she offers extra credit assignments. She is friendly and supportive and always provided honest and helpful feedback on my exams and papers. Anyone who is hesitant to sign up, I can assure you there is no need to be.
Professor Draper is an insightful professional who truly cares about her students and the environment. I've taken four classes with Professor Draper and learned much from her. She is an approachable professor who knows her subject and is willing to help her students. I would recommend her to committed students who are eager to learn.
Professor Draper is a very caring professor. Her class can be a bit heavy given the workload, but she is always willing to help. I found myself struggling in her class & was too afraid to reach out but she noticed and she reached out to me. Professor Draper really does want the best for her students & invests time if the student is willing, too.
Dr. Draper is a wonderful professor. She has a considerable amount of insight and experience in her field and is always willing to assist her students with scholarships and internships. Although her class does take work, she has long office hours and provides valuable help and feedback.
Gives too much work. Very picky about what she wants exactly. Not a easy class with her
This prof gets a bad rap sometimes but she's actually pretty decent. Expects a lot from students but if you show some effort and read super thoroughly you won't have a problem. I feel like if she modernized her teaching style with powerpoints and her lectures covered exactly what's on the tests students would do better in her class though.
She takes her job serious but she's nice and definitely knows her stuff. I did good in the class but some people struggled because most of her tests only cover what's in the readings. I would take her again, just wish she went over things related to test questions in class more or gave specific studyguides.
She doesn't have presentation outlines and talks a lot irrelative things thats not basic in class. so don't take this class, she will call you if you don't show your face or not paying "attention". there also so much reading in this class.
Be ready to read because the exams and final essays will require you to refer to the readings. The number of assigned readings per week are so unreasonable that they don't feel realistic, especially if you have other, more important classes to take. It is also hard to keep up with the lectures as she does not provide presentations or slides.
Before you sign up for this class, consider this professor will not provide good lectures; there are no presentations, so you have to base your notes on the teacher's talking. You will lose points if you are not one time and participate. If you don't show your face or answer in time, she will call you out and say you're not paying attention.
I 100% recommend you find another teacher; it's not worth it. She expects you to read so much material, and you need to participate every time we have class, which is awkward because it's a Zoom. You also need to show your face for credit. She really fell off compared to the other nice reviews about her, I don't know what happened.
Professor Dr Draper is very knowledgeable in her field and encourages class participation. In this class, I read many things and watched videos. They gave me knowledge about stuff I did not know. week. Overall, it's straightforward and easy A, but prepare to work and read a lot. Read a lot! Tests are medium to hard but are graded on a curb.
Prof Draper is knowledgable but she isnt helpful at all she will not let anything slide even if you have special circumstances. Zoom is mandatory and so is having your camera on, so this is not an easy online class. No slides so you need to take notes on lectures to pass the 2 quizzes, and 3 essays (1 quiz+3 essays due same week) Super nitpicky too
Professor Draper is clearly wise and intelligent in her expertise and field of work, but her teaching style is so bad, no lecture slides and she expects you to take note of everything that she says. She also assigns an unrealistic amount of reading per week, normally around 150-190 pages, and expects you to remember everything, avoid at all costs!!!
This semester I decided to take sociology of law as an elective course. The workload is nothing out of the ordinary and if you do the readings, attend the zoom lectures and watch the films, you will receive a solid grade. Lectures are insightful and interesting & if you need help with post-graduate applications or letters, she is eager to help.
Dr. Draper is an exceptional instructor who truly cares about her students' academic success. Her deep knowledge of Law is evident in her lectures. You will need to dedicate time to reading the assigned materials. She is always available to answer questions, provide support, and give valuable feedback. Her class prepares you for graduate school.
Professor Draper's internship class is a great opportunity for any student. You will able to gain experience in a field of study that you are interested in. One of the most beneficial things to come out of this class is the connections you build for future opportunities and being able to use this internship for your grad school application.
Honestly did not like her class, she just spoke entire zoom. No slides or visuals. Big on having paper textbooks, gives EC if you have both and do a couple intro assignemnts. Made her final seem more complicated and weird than it had to be. Don't recomennd if you actually need to learn, can be a little rude at times as well. Cameras NEED to be on.
Dr. Draper is knowledgeable and passionate. Her lectures are engaging and insightful. The textbook provided valuable context. Her final exam was fair and reflected the course material well. She provided me with valuable and honest feedback on my papers and helped me become a better writer. Cameras are recommended and never required.
Combative and rude when you discuss race in bioethics. Does not care if a classmate does not participate in group project. Only talks during class, and has no slides- EVER. Does not allow room for discussion. Too much reading and not enough of it covered in class. Avoid her at all cost!!!
I do not recommend taking this professor. There will be no slides provided when she has her lectures online. Due to this being the case, it could be difficult to follow along with what she is saying. The worst of it is the final which is a mandatory 3 essays. Each essay requires 7 in class sources and 3 pages. She also grades late.
