Great teacher, made exams harder than neccessary. I loved this class except for test dificulty.
I was really intimidated after the first class, but it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. She was really enthusiastic & willing to help out at anytime. Tip: Do all the extra credit assigments you can! She will see your effort and will bump you up that extra point if needed!
outstanding teacher, very helpful, most interesting class
geez, glad this class is over with, it's a pain.. she expects her students to be geologists when your done..
great & hot
I had her class a couple of years ago. The work is hard and you do have to study and be prepared. However, this class is very interesting and if you work hard and prepare, you will get a good grade.
Class is a lot of work, but the teacher is great!! Helpful when ever asked. :-)
I took her for both Environmental Science and Historical Geology. I was never interested in either before taking her classes. She is great!!! Classes are interesting, fun, and enlightening. You will love either of these classes if yuo need to take a science course.
She's tricky. T/F questions have several elements to them. She doesn't always remind you when assignments are due. If you show up even 1 minute late she refuses to let you take the quiz, exam, or get credit for any assignments due that day. She also takes 10 pts off the next exam if your cell phone rings. If you can hang, she's a good teacher.
She is a nice teacher but she is not very clear. She talks so fast when we are taking notes! Her directions to our field trips don't make any since. She loves to talk about her ex husband a lot!!The class is not very hard if you just keep on it and study a lot.
She is very tricky!!! Her T/F questions are very hard!! The class wasn't hard if you study A LOT! We only met once a week so she covered everything faster. The directions to our labs didn't make sence. Good way to get a science class out of the way, but if you are lazy and don't study very hard, then don't take this class! I promise you will fail!
Ms. Alexander rocks. She offers plenty of extra credit so you don't have a reason to fail. She speaks a little funny due to being hard of hearing, but other than that she rocks. No pun intended. :p
She's a very nice lady in class, but I did some extra credit outside, and she's a tad big socially awkward. She's very understandable, but you have to study super hard for her tests. Her final is cumulative and there's so much information you have to keep track of. She's very willing to help and gives EC.
You learn a lot, but its a really hard class unless you have time to study at least an hour a day. Although she is a really good teacher.
If you actually want to learn instead of dying of boredom in another class, TAKE MS. ALEXANDER!
she is very hard...i wouldnt take her again..yes its interesting but her tests and quizes are super hard..
She is a great teacher, by the end of the semester I was able to think independently on the subject. As long as you study and attend every class you will get an A. Do all extra credit!!!
she is super super hard..alot of info..yes interesting but alot alot of info to learn and study
TAKE Physical before Hx, both great, MUST study, NOT a blow off class! Very organized, sticks to syllabus & calender, VERBATIM. She's laid back, very knowledgeable, explains everything, easy 2 work with IF you put forth effort. Tries to help you understand concepts. PRIVILEGED extra credits to help, not many do this. Get what you put into it.
She seems like a good teacher. I'm taking her Environmental Science Lab course. My only real complaint is that she require you to print off lab papers, and drive to various field trip locations. Where's the environmental aspect of the course?
GREAT teacher! I feel that this was the greatest investment of my life in money and hours. Changed my life around! I came in with the notion that this was a required class, and left with a sense of respect for our environment! Attend class and take notes, you will do great, she is very intelligent and awesome teacher. Taking her again next semester
Did drive to lab assigments, but it was very "hands on" without getting hands dirty. Did print out lab exercises, but to be there and experience the labs was the best way to understand the assigment. All grades based on attendance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Best teacher I've EVER had! Taking her again next semester for Geology. She knows her stuff.
Reads verbatim from Powerpoint. Tests cover everything and she can be sneaky.
Ms. Alexander is truly the best teacher I have ever had, bar none. If you want an A she clearly spells out for you what you need to do to get it. This is not a blow off course, you need to learn. It is allot of information to receive and every assignment is relevant to comprehend the material presented. Beautiful teacher in every aspect.
This teacher is very dedicated to what she knows, very clear on her lectures, gives a review before the 4 major test. There are 8 quizzes over material before the lecture. So you MUST study and ATTEND class. Be prepared for a long semester of dedication. I opened the book maybe twice. Comprehensive final, lab exam, & rock project (very hard!)
Great Professor! She knows her stuff and she is fair. She is a great teacher you leave understanding and learning the subject matter very well.
No thank you.
Great Teacher!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher! very passionate about what she teaches. Must be there and try. One of the best teachers i have had. I wish all teachers were like her!
Knows her stuff. Fair, You have to keep up and be prepared to work, not a "Fluff" class.
Not too hard of a class but she makes it a little more difficult. she tried to be very ticky, it's almost like she wants you too do bad. if your late by a second to class you recieve a 0 for anything done that day. She would see people running to class through the windows and it wouldn't matter, she enjoyed people struggling to get to class
Good teacher, passionate about the subject, BUT you have to be willing to work your ass off, its a LOT of information
She is probably one of the best professors i have had in a college setting, she was informative and made the subject matter very interesting!
had to drop class due to work, Very demanding.... Had a "rocky start" with her....Alot of work both online and in class. She will break down any and all who show up with excuses!!! You have been warned!!
This teacher does require a lot of work but it is worth it. I thought she was a very helpful and fair teacher. She is extremely enthusiastic about the subject and did her best to make it fun in my opinion. Definitly my favorite professor.
One of the best prof's at MCC. I took the class b/c I heard GEO was super easy.. WRONG! The class is alot of work but you will leave knowing so much more than you thought you would. As long as you do the work you'll end up with an A at the end of the semester. She's SUPER knowledgable!!
BEST PROF at MCC. Easily. The people who don't like this class are the ones that are lazy and want to squeeze by without much work. This is not that class. You have to do alot of work but she LOVES geology. Makes class very enjoyable and you will do well if you do the work. Love her!!
I took the geology field course and it was awesome! I highly recommend it! I loved it and I'm not even a geology major I just needed the geology credit! It's a great way to do just that or if you are in that sort of field it would be great real world experience for you! She is an outstanding teacher!
Took her summer 2013 and she was one of the hardest professors I have had. Very fast paced and assigns a ton of work so just be ready to start working on projects and homework ASAP!
This class definitely was not taught as a freshman level non science class. Way too much crammed into every class and she doesn't even teach the lab portion which makes it difficult. Its hard to pass unless this 1 class is all you have. Also if you text, talk, or don't go to class expect a bad participation grade that will hurt your overall grade.
WARNING: WORST PROFESSOR. I am not exaggerating. This is my Junior year, I've had plenty of professors so take my advice: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You will regret it, I promise.
The class drags on for 3 hours, so bring coffee. You will never get out early & she never cancels. Don't be late. There are 5 exams & 1 lab exam. The daily assignments vary, but are all extensive and demanding. The work load is brutal. She makes you leave your phone face up on the desks. God don't let it ring. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
Course Load: 8 Quizzes. 9 Labs. 9 Virtual Field Trips. 6 Exams [4 over lecture, 1 over labs, 1 Final] 1 Extensive 20+ page rock project (tip: Be sure to read the instructions be for you start even though she gets repetitive. Part two is just a rubric.) She provides study guides for the lecture exams. Tough class.
Really hard class. Professor is no help, all self taught. Tons of work. Wouldn't recommend.
She knows her stuff and if you aren't one of the lazy MCC students you will pass the class. She gives EXTENSIVE options for extra credit (which got me an A in the class, I don't know HOW I did). Make sure you do the work and don't procrastinate. As long as you do all the assignments and get a decent grade you'll be fine. Just make sure you STUDY!
Don't procrastinate! Even if you do all of your work and are a great student the work load is KILLER! The subject is easy, but she finds a way to make it hard. EXTENSIVE WORK LOAD. Don't take this unless it is your only class for the semester. Class is BORING! She'll give you the evil-eye for getting in late. Not very nice, DEFINITELY NOT HELPFUL.
The text book is mandatory, but you MUST buy it from the bookstore because the professor wrote the book, so plan on spending at least $200.00. Very boring class, and she makes you do a Science Fair project thing. IT SUCKS!
Tough subject but there's tons of extra credit and all PPTs are available online. Historical class has one group presentation but NO paper. Don't take as a blow-off course but do take this teacher if you have to. A tough course but the teacher covers it well; you just have to be active in figuring out what you don't understand and ask questions.
The class is hard. She assigns a ton of work, & doesn't accept any late or makeup work. She also doesn't accept ANY reason for missing class. Her tests are HARD and her rock project takes forever..... But she is a great teacher. She gets excited about her subject and really tries to make sure you understand the material. DO NOT BE LATE TO CLASS.
This professor was tough. I mean, really tough. While she tries her best to help her students, it can also still be a pain to try to pass the class with more than a C. You will be assigned large amounts of homework on top of reading, and help was not very helpful, but was offered.
She is a great teacher and her class is well-organized. The only reason why you would not do well in her course, is because you are lazy or are expecting a natural science course to be a blowoff. There are tons of opportunities for extra-credit and she provides great reviews and feedback. I learned a lot and would take her again.
Assigns way to much work!!!!!! my GPA is a 3.7 and this class is way to hard it will take almost all of the time you have for you have with other classes! her milestone group projects are way to in depth and even if you do outstanding she will give you a 1415 just because she doesn't want to give a 100% to anyone. Her lectures are posted to BB tho
Assigns way to much work!!!!!! I'm an all A's student and this is the hardestworst class ever. The teacher wont give anyone a 100 even if you earn it. you better have a good group for the lab projects I'm lucky and I do but most others do not. It will take almost all of your time away.
If you value your life then dont take this class. It will drive you crazy because she makes your life some much harder. Especially if you have a job. Expect your gas bill to go up because she will make you drive more than you really should have to. Expect assignments that are very time consuming. Strongly do not recommend her. Take ANYBODY else.
Overall this class was not too bad, I took it in Summer I. She gives you a calendar that will show what is all due, when it's due, etc. This helps a lot. She does give you the ability to print off the powerpoints. It is best to do that in order to keep up w her. Labs are okay, you will need to know how to examine a rock & be able know what it is.
She is way to serious about her subject. Beware of 3 research papers as well as a major recycling project/research paper with mandatory volunteer hours. All of these assignments were both time consuming and pointless.
I LOVED this class, and I'm not much of a science whiz. I took it online and felt it was a fair class. This class was an easy A for me. If you do the work and pay attention, you'll be able to pass. There is quite a bit of homework, so allot your time properly. I thought she was very helpful, diligent, and passionate. WONDERFUL TEACHER!
This professor worked with me and really supported me during a personally challenging time so I could finish this course. She expects you to work so be prepared for that. She has got to be the most contagious professor I've ever had because she LOVES geology! She is fair, patient, and gives extra credit. You won't regret taking her class.
She has clear grading expectations so don't get behind. She is fair and it is fun to watch her videos. I didn't realize the lab was a separate course. Had she not told me, I wouldn't of graduated on time. Take her for this class!
Her labs really make sense with the lecture course. Take both courses together. Make sure you turn your labs in on time and allow the amount of time she recommends to complete them.
She makes you do this recycling project that seems impossible at first. I was surprised when I completed it without much work. It showed me how important recycling is. I like her so much I'm taking her geology course next semester.
I have taken quite a few online classes and none of the them were as easy to follow as this one. I had to work for an A but I learned a ton of stuff that was fun and useful. If someone says she is hard, that probably translates to "I don't like to work". This is a real college class. I would take all of her classes because she's that good.
This lab is easy to follow but the assignments were good. You have one week to complete each lab so there is plenty of time and clear instructions on what to do. I liked this class so much that I am taking her for Physical Geology in Summer 1. Highly recommend her!
Geology 1301 was awesome. She was very informative and allowed plenty of time to get assignments completed. The labs were fun and challenging at the same time. This class has opened my mind up to think about Earth science in m daily routine.
This instructor really goes above and beyond to help her students and I am living proof. I wanted to give up and she encouraged me to stick with it. Her lectures are like being in a regular class. Only reason I made a B is because I didn't do all the work. I would recommend her to anyone!
I signed up for this class under another professor and was scared to death when she walked in the first day instead of him. She turned out to be the best professor I have ever had. Yes, she expects you to be a college student and perform like one. I have skipped other classes but I didn't ever want to miss hers because it was fun. No textbook!
This class is easy and I learned a bunch. I thought it would be boring but it has been one of my favorite classes and professors. I highly recommend her class.
I took Historical Geology as part of the Geology Field Course and it is an incredible class! I never thought this subject would turn out to be one of my favorite but it has. Take this online course and you will be glad you did. It is super organized and it has half of the work that Physical does.
This is the best online class I have ever had. The instructor has all her lectures recorded and each day is divided into tasks. Her format is easy to follow. It is a science class so expect to work but you will be so thankful you took her for any online class!
I really enjoyed this class and instructor. This online class was interactive, the instructor records all her videos, and she answers questions in a timely manner. Highly recommend her online lecture lab course!
This professor has the best online course I have ever taken at any institution. Her daily tasks are straight forward with excellent directions. She gives regular constructive feedback. I would take her again!
The material is interesting and fun, but the work load is out of control. I fully expect to spend additional time doing homework in addition to class time, but spending an additional average of 16-20 hours per week is not reasonable. My other classes suffered as a result. Pick a different class to take it isn't worth the effort.
Awesome class. She makes the subjects interesting, and keeps the class pumped to learn more. The labs are tough but she really does help as much as she can. She works with you if there is an issue, and is understanding of life ! You will work in this class but its worth it !
This is by far the best online class I have EVER taken at any institution. I am a fully online student because I work full time and and have a family. She tells you upfront that this science course will take take and effort. She is clear on the weekly tasks and the course expectations are so easy to follow. Take any of her online classes!
The professor is AMAZING, but GEOL_1403 is a tough course. It has A TON of complicated labs. She is upfront about the amount of time needed to be put into the class, but she will help any way she can. Understanding. If you don't have time to devote 6-10hrs a week on just her class, don't take her... but she really is a great professor.
This is the best online instructor I've ever had. I am enrolled in two more of her classes next semester because I love her classes. She is an AWESOME teacher. She is fair, honest, and cares about students. Be prepared to work and be sure to check out her comments to you. She really takes the time to give super feedback.
This professor is my favorite of any I've had in college. She is entertaining and informative. She made me work hard and see I was capable of more. Be prepared to work but you will be so glad you took her for any course!
This was a fun class and so was the lab. She made the lectures funny and let us know exactly how to prepare for the quizzes and tests.
I absolutely loved this class, the amount of passion she has for geology, and the amount of time she puts in with her students makes this class a must take!
The class was very well organized. I loved her folder system and virtual lab videos. It helped me know what I should be doing and kept me on track on turning things in a timely matter. She gives great feedback and will email you back ASAP. She truly cares for her students. It is one of the best online classes I have ever taken!
She was the best online teacher I've ever had. Very organized! She also does everything to work with you and grades nicely. Not going to lie, I wasn't very excited about taking geology. However she made it extremely cool by taking lecture videos of herself at places all over.
I have taken 11 online classes, and this class by far is the best I have taken. She is very organized with the entire course and it surprised me by how organized she is. She gives feedback on every assignment that you turn in, which helps you further your learning.
This professor truly cares about her students even when she is going through life issues. She lost her mom, brother-in-law and father-in-law this semester and she still made our class like it was her top priority. She is the best!
This course was much easier than Physical and she told us it would be. Recommend taking this course right after Physical because you already know her and the online format. Great course and the best professor I've ever had.
I just finished Physical Geology with this professor. At first, I thought the class would be impossible. It turned out to be my favorite course I've taken at any institution. Elaine cares about students and loves geology. I have decided to take her Historical class just because this one was so awesome. Take her!
I just finished taking Physical and Historical Geology with her this summer. These were the best two classes I've taken at MCC. She makes it clear you will work but she is the coolest instructor. She cares about students and loves geology. I am even considering taking her Earth Science course next semester. Take her!
Heard this class was hard. It was a great course and easy to follow. You will work but she makes the course fun. This is an awesome professor. Best organized course I've taken at MCC.
You have to do your homework daily to keep up if you work full-time. She lets you take the weekly quizzes twice. I learned from what I got wrong on the first test, and I always got a better grade when I took the test the 2nd time. The videos help you understand the material. Very organized and responds to emails quickly. Labs are challenging.
I admit, her class was a little overwhelming at first, but I soon found out she really wanted us to learn. She does not give grades away, you will work for it, but I guarantee you will love this class before it is over. She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit and is always there when you need her. She really cares about her students.
She is a great professor! Lectures and quizzes are easy! You will do a little work on labs but there fun! I definitely recommend her as a teacher. Easy A!
If anything I learned how to manage my time properly. A LOT of assignments that are very long (took online). You need printer/scanner for sure! Lots of reading but overall a very effective teacher. Responsiveness and very helpful!!
I took her online class, and managed to pass it with a B, however in order to do this you must quit your job, not have any social life, and remember not to take any other classes. She actually laughed at me and told me to quit my job so I can pass her class, it is uncaring instructors like her that make the good ones look bad.
Elaine is a great professor! she does make you work and definitely need to take some time outside of class to study because her tests are difficult. she is organized and posts a lot of reminder on brightspace.
This professor is a great instructor. Her course outline is clear and simple. There are several opportunities for extra credit for the tests. She makes sure that you know the information that is needed for exams.
Elaine is hands down the best professor I have ever had. Her lectures are well prepared and if you take notes from the powerpoint the quiz with the corresponding week will be a breeze. She give two chances for every quiz and lab. She is caring and really wants you to understand the topic. I am taking Earth Science with her next semester!
Elaine is a great Professor. I wasnt excited to take the course, but she made it so interesting that it was much easier to retain the information. I took the class online and her class is well structured. You will spend a lot of time listening to lectures and doing labs, but if you manage your time well and do the assignments, youll pass.
Absolutely insane. This is an online course, but you might as well take this class and nothing else. If you are a full time student, looking for a blend of online and in person courses, do not take this class. The amount of work I have done in the first few weeks of this course is more than I have done in all my other courses combined.
I would not recommend taking the online version of this class. The information is massive and there are at least 2 quizzes due every week. 3 on discussion free weeks. The quizzes are easy but sometimes worded wrong so you get them wrong. She also mixes up the schedule or forgets to grade assignments but is quick to respond to emails.
She was great. There was a lot of work but I took a hybrid class. Midterm and final are a bit hard. She gives All lectures as a review, which is a lot of lectures. The work was easy. identification labs were a bit tough but, all labs and chapter quizzes have the option of being taken twice.
The hardest online class I've ever taken. I took it in an online course/summer session and it took me about 6 hours everyday. ONE class took me longer than a normal 12 hour semester would. She's kind but requires way too much and her instruction is very hard to follow. DO not recommend at all.
She gives WAAAAAAAYYYY too much work. I understand this is college and it should be expected, but she's ridiculous (I've had chem, bio, physics and NOTHING compares to this). I'm currently taking her online class and honestly wish I hadn't. Some of the labs she makes us do take HOURS (4+ hrs with the solar system & 7+ hrs with salt project). AVOID.
She is an amazing teacher and really makes geology fascinating. I learned so much. When studying for the tests try to remember what was on the previous exams or things she said would be on the exam.
I took her for a Summer mini-mester! Its pretty lecture heavy (what summer mini-mester isnt). But she gives you two chances on each quiz and answers any questions you have. If you have a job, it might be a bit stressful, but shes pretty lenient about that kind of stuff and really nice!
I took this class online. There is a lot of work, but it is a geology course. There is a lot of information to be covered. This instructor has put an immense amount of time into her lectures and activities. Tests are proctered per state mandate but she allows typed notes. Do the work, save the lecture PDF's every week, take notes.
I was not expecting this to be my favorite course this semester but it was. Dr. F's online course started off with an orientation video and I had no problems finding anything in the course from that point on. She gave weekly feedback, reminder emails. Her videos are like being in a classroom with her. I plan on taking her again next semester.
She was an amazing professor. Her Lectures are very interesting to watch. She has visited many places which makes them even more interesting! Great professor!
I took this class to transfer to my university. I went into this class skeptical about online after my classes during Covid. This class changed my mind that online can be a great way to learn. Recommend Dr. F because she has everything organized and easy to find in the online course. She also gives feedback on everything!
Do not take a heavy load if you take this class. Course work is outrageous, lots of memorization in order to pass. She words quizzes HORRIBLY, you are guaranteed to miss at least one question. Never fixed my grade for an assignment even after emailing her about it. Said exam was sections 9-15 in a weekly rundown, exam ended up being sections 1-20.
Great professor. She has brightspace very organized and it is super easy to stay on track with assignments. You will have a lecture quiz and a lab due each week but they are not too hard. Exams are very hard though.
At first when I signed up for her class I was a little skeptical, because it was something I thought I wouldnt find interesting. Let me tell you I was wrong. It is her and professor Russ Alexander. Their class is a little challenging and it requires a lot of memorization. Weekly you will have to submit lecture quizzes and lab tests.
This class is structured so you can make an A as long as you work for it. Turn your work in on time and keep an eye out for extra credit! Weekly quiz and lab with a lecture. The lectures are great, and I learned SO much. THIS IS NOT ROCKS FOR JOCKS. You cannot get an A without studying, because you have a midterm and comprehensive final to take.
She is easily the best Professor at MCC, and she delivers great lectures that are easily understandable. Just do your assignments, and work ahead if you can. She is caring, but everything is clearly organnized and scheduled. So, completing everything on time is up to you! I honestly wish more professors were like her.
Not the class to take online. Not if any questions or help is needed. She may be friendly in person or seem friendly on her videos but don't dare ask her a simple question. She is a jerk and will make sure you feel stupid if you don't understand something.
This professors course load is ridiculous. She teaches her lectures as if we have studied rocks our whole life. She expects us to remember EVERYTHING in a 1.5 hour lecture. She tricky with her quizzes to make sure we watch the lectures and it’s just wrong. Do not take her, wayyyy too much work for just a regular mandatory class.
She is obviously very kind & passionate about what she teaches, however the workload for this course is insane. The assignments and expectations are clear but the actual quizzes/ exams are incredibly difficult. The lectures are long, the quiz questions are so specific, and there is total information overload.
Dr. Fagner was very lenient in some difficult times for me. My number one tip would be to communicate with her. If she sees that you're trying, she's going to be willing to help you with whatever you need. Take advantage of her office hours and be prepared to work. There is a lot of lecture time for this class.
Dr. Fagner was an absolute joy to take. She made the classes fun and I enjoyed the class so much that I am taking her Historical Geology class next semester. She gives you pop quiz at the beginning of class for extra credit. Would totally recommend Dr. Fagners class for anyone wishing to learn about Physical/Historical Geology.
I've taken her for Physical Geology, and Historical. The class was really well organized with only a few weird issues. She gives feedback on every assignment, and a lot of the labs are pretty interesting and fit well. You also get extra credit chances, like an extra 5% added to exams. Fair bit of memorization. Overall really nice, cool professor.
Great Professor! Expectations are clearly stated in her syllabus and a clear road map is lined out to keep you on track. Dr. Fagner is engaging with her students and cares very deeply for their success in this course. This is a science class, expect to do work! My recommendation for this class, communicate any and all issues with the professor.
Avoid taking this class online. It's intense. Expect long video lectures with next-day quizzes and labs due two days later. The professor emails about missed assignments, adding pressure. While the professor was okay, I found it hard to retain information and struggled with tests. If possible, take it in person.
Lecture quizzes and labs are easy as long as you put in the effort. (1 quiz and lab per week). The only other assignments are the midterm and final which are DIFFICULT. There is a LOT of content to memorize!!! I averaged a 96 on all my lecture quizzes and a 99 on my labs. But I made a 52 and 56 on the midterm/final. Still passed though. 3/5 stars.
Awesome class! Somewhat hard - a lot to learn, so a big time commitment. Gives 2 tries on quizzes and extra credit chances. Gives every opportunity to get a good grade. Lectures are excellent. Enthusiastic and educational. Provides SI instruction, which is very helpful. She teaches and grades with a learning focus rather than a grading focus.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Insane amount of workload and she doesn't seem to understand that not everyone is already a professional. Hard to understand what tests will be over due to the insane amount of information. Expects you to memorize no joke Dozens of rock and completely understand all of their properties. Made me want to quit on class and life
This class gives you 4 credits so it is very content heavy. 2 assignments due every week: 1 quiz and 1 lab. Be prepared to spend a good amount of time studying and completing the labs. Offers extra credit. She responds to emails quick and truly does want you to succeed. Very understanding but you also have to do your part. Overall great professor.
Dr. Fagner's GEO1403 class is intense, with frequent quizzes and lab assignments. While the content can be challenging, she is understanding and willing to help if you communicate with her. Consider using unstuck study alongside the textbook to better prepare for tests.
The reading is lengthy and the tests are very hard. She is easy to get ahold of most of the time. I've taken her twice & passed but its lots of work!!! Labs can take several hours. There is a midterm & final. She will post a study guide for both. I recommend start looking at the study guide ASAP to be aware of the midterm content.
I loved geology before Dr Fagner. Expect to have to read sometimes multiple chapters a week while also having to watch hour long lecture videos and then having to take quiz on TUESDAY without the textbook or any notes. Each question is about 2-3 sentences long and the answer choices are mostly 5-8 answer choices equally as long. never recommend.
The class is overwhelming with weekly assignments and labs. The lectures often contradict the quiz questions. Labs take hours to complete. Expect long questions with 8 multiple-choice options. Overall, I found the course stressful and no longer enjoy Earth Science. Content-heavy and time consuming. I do NOT recommend!
I took her for two classes. I will say that she's very enthusiastic about what she teaches. However, it is nearly impossible to take in ALL the info and study for quizzes/tests because there know way of knowing what will be on there. She asks about the smallest details that there is no way of memorizing! everything is which is false/true.
Overall shoes not a terrible professor, however SHE MAKES EVERYTHING DUE ON WEDNESDAY WHEN EVERY OTHER PROFFESSOR MAKES ASSIGNMNETS DUE ON SUNDAY. I have a full time job so maybe that is why I found it more annoying. But just beware! She's not a very tough grader, I did not do the best of my labs and still got hundreds on them.
Great Professor! The SI sessions are GOLD! Its not an easy class but if you have a good work ethic & pay attention to details you will do fine. Heavy on the course material, make sure you allocate the proper amount of time. All the information needed for exams, labs and quizzes in the material so no surprises. I enjoyed the class and learn A LOT.
This professor is honest about a science course taking more time than a regular class. She is very organized and has all her lectures pre-recorded. Labs had guidance on how to complete them. She has a set schedule that is different from most online professors so know that going into it.
Dr. Fagner is my top favorite professor I have had in my 8 years of college. Her classes are practical and rewarding. I learned things in her class, not just completed work. Her lessons are exceptionally organized and thoughtfully laid out, building off of one another. I was so inspired in my time in her class I came close to changing my major!
This is a science course with lecture and lab combined, so technically its like taking two classes in one. The course is well organized and easy to follow. The professor is very enthusiastic and her energy for geology is contagious! I would definitely take her again. This course requires dedication and good time management.
I highly recommend taking the in-person class. The classroom is full of so many samples of geologic features. The professor was friendly and very acknowledged. The course is well organized and easy to follow along. The professor's expectations are clear. I loved the lecture videos and the nature scene that concludes the lecture video.
Remember that it is you that are paying the teacher to TEACH YOU the subject and YOU ARE PAYING to participate and process the information that is being presented to you. Plan your schedule accordingly. You definitely get your moneys worth here. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, accessible, responsive and compassionate, but you have to do the work.
I usually take classes at a different university, but took some here this summer. How is pleasantly surprised at how engaging geology was. We had a quiz and a lab each day and I have learned more in this class than I expected. I wish I had classes like this at my other university. I highly recommend this professor!
Dr. Fagner is exceptional at her craft. She's hands-down my favorite professor at MCC. She's responsive, smart, and genuinely wants her students to be successful. Her organized approach towards the class makes all deadlines clear, and her quizzes test students meticulously in their knowledge. This class, while difficult, was very worthwhile!
Dr. Fagner is simply one of a kind. To this day I still tell everyone to take her classes. She truly CARES about your success, and she cares deeply for her students in general. She is consistent, precise, and beyond knowledgeable of Physical Geology (ANY geology if we are being technical) and she started my love for geology. She is the best.
Dr. Fagner teaches with great enthusiasm for Geology. The course was well organized and easy to follow. I did need to manage my time well because of the lectures. I had no idea that a science course would need so much time. However, I found out that the course has the lecture and lab components combined into one course. Makes sense now.
