This professor is the best I've taken as an undergrad in terms of really using what I learned in the real world. She's simply the BEST!

The Best - I really found my inner voice in her class. Her giudance in this regard is SUPERB!

Had her for two classes last year and enjoyed every minute of both. A kind hearted southern, she keeps the work fun by offering E.C. for knowing weird things about the assignments. If you get lower then a B you either didn't go or your a retard

I had her three years ago this spring and yet it is difficult to forget such intellegence. If you pay attention you will do well. I have used what she has taught me in future education. Be confident or you owe her a quarter.

shes a cool teacher pretty funny and her class isnt that hard gives tiny quizzes on short stories read in class and a lot of extra credit points that you can add on to your final grade so answer them because some may be worth 25 or more tally points.

Not overrated at all. Fun class, participate and you'll do great, she doesnt let you put urself or n e one else down makes you work to your potential so u just gotta show up and try ,,took her twice both times were fine

This is a great class. It helps you tap into your creative abilities and get over your fears of public speaking. She treats every one with respect. The courseload is fair, a lot of reading and writing should be expected.

Very reasonable teacher. You do about 3-4papers/projects in semester. Small 5Question quiz after almost all short stories, but they're easy if you read them, The 1st question is ALWAYS, who was the author. Midterm, and a final which are'nt that hard, 90% m/c & mix/match... Take her!

Very nice person who is reasonably supportive of your writing and always is willing to help. It would have been nice if she gave more freedom in the writing, but a class with her teaching is a good one.

Fantastic writer! She helps tap into creativity and is easy going. She picks no favorites and treats everyone fairly. Has great handouts on meditative creativity, and brings in ways to get published. Also, has a lot of experience with workshops. If you enjoy writing, TAKE A CLASS WITH PRESTON!

Awesome teacher. Very helpful. She really helped me in my writing. Probably the only class I've taken at SCCC where I actually gained some useful knowledge. Oh yeah and there were NO TESTS!!!

dont gravel...or whatever it was actually a good teacher but on crack.. she actually really got me into writing. i loved this class.. making stories with words from the board, is now my fav past time..

One of the best writing teachers i've ever had. Fun, friendly and amazingly talented. She wanted people to walk away enjoying writing and not dreading the next assignment!

I really enjoyed her class. She is very nice and down to earth. We read some great stories and poetry, which I never happened to like before her class. Take her if you want to walk away actually learning something.

Good professor. Challenging assignments. She LOVES writing and you'd better too if you take the class. There is a performance (not a speech-a PERFORMANCE), so don't be surprised. I thought she offered valuable suggestions for my writing and respected my point of view. If you are serious about your writing she will appreciate your efforts.

I wish I could take this class again. I envy you. Great professor, fun class. If you pay attention, you will learn a lot. I did.

Excellent professor and what I like best about her is how sympathetic she is. She allows you to joke around and have fun. The writing isn't hard if you're into it. Get ready to donate money in the grovel jar!

very very very very very very very nice. does not care about attendence. very observant. class is alot of fun. extreemly helpful. the type of teacher, that u can miss 3 weeks and show up high and go to her office and shell sit down without and help u write and make u want to do it for a living.

Very nice and helpful. She tries to make you write from your thought. The class is very interesting and she has a lot of good ideas to make it more fun for the whole semester. Barely use textbook..I got to develop my writing skills so much. Definitely take her

She waw so funny and just so sweet. Super understanding and helpful, and i actually enjoyed going to her class. Her southern accent is so funny and i wrote some really good stuff during her free writing sessions. Definite thumbs up. TAKE HER CLASS!!!

She is a very funny & sweet teacher. She does give a lot of critique. on your writing but trust me you'll be happy she did. My writing is a lot better (almost no plastic stickers!)because of it. You do a free write everyday & about 6 projects. Honestly the best class I took all semester. I was learning with a lot of great people Honors Fall 2011:)

I loved her! She's very nice and funny, but sometimes a little weird. Just make sure you don't yawn in her class or she'll stop talking and just stare at you. LOL.

Prof. Preston is, by far, the best professor I have had at Suffolk. She can be a little eccentric but she has a kind heart, and gives out fun assignments. She doesn't like it when students yawn in her class, nor does she like cellphones! I got an A in her class! If you want to take a Creative Writing class, make sure you take her, she's great!

Professor Preston is a wonderful lady. She makes the class fun and interesting. I took her for literature and the tests she always gave out were about the stories that we had to read for homework. She's really fun and stares at you when you yawn :) Loveable lady and fun class. I would recommend her. I loved the grovel jar. I will miss her.

She is an excellent teacher, really and truly. She engages the class and provokes creativity among her students. I haven't needed my textbook, however- I don't know if this was because she is obligated to assign one- but I would have preferred to keep the money in my pocket. Other than that- wonderful. And yes, I know, it's a "plastic sticker".

Sweetest professor I have had to date. Class was easy considering I got an A and did not even purchase the textbook.

Professor Elaine Preston is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is funny and helpful. Her assignments aren't difficult and she doesn't overwork you. She gives you plenty of time to complete the work. If you are struggling, she will offer you one on one help.

One of best teachers I ever had, taking her class is a must she is great. The work isn't bad at all. Just make sure you show effort and don't yawn during class!

This class is an automatic A. Very few assignments with plenty of time to do them. Practice writing every class which you will have to read for the class, but its easy, fun, anything goes, not graded on this, actually a cool exercise. She does repeat the same stories all semester. She is a sweetheart and will guide you to get an A. Highly recommend

One of the best and sweetest teachers here on this campus. Truly cares about her students well being and succeeding in her class. Show up to class, take notes, pay attention and participate. She's an absolute sweetheart and I hope I get the chance to take her again. 5/5 rating in my opinion!

Professor Preston is a great professor. Her class was a easy A. She gives out a lot of extra points to add to tests. She is very funny but you will stop talking when you yawn lol. I would recommend this class to anyone.

I took her honors class, she's super cool and smart. She does a fun "bidding" at the first few mins of each class and the freewrite at the beginning is super entertaining too. She's very caring and helpful. She makes class more like a discussion/hangout rather than lecture. I look forward to her class everytime. I recommend, easy A.

She is very nice. Since it is creative writing you can basically write about anything. She will correct you on many things but that's just to improve your writing. She does not like when you talk or use your phone. She also does this weird thing when you yawn, she stops the class and stares at you. Overall good teacher and easy A.

She is so sweet. Sometimes she can be a little over the top about things (germs, yawning, etc.) but besides that she's a great professor and her class was extremely easy to pass. Easy papers, easy grader, and her class is so much fun. A lot of sharing with the class, but she honestly makes it a lot of fun and everyone gets close. Loved her!

Professor Preston is an amazing woman and the best professor. She is very caring and accessible outside of class. She is passionate about what she teaches and makes class fun. She is also hilarious, but does stop class if you yawn lol. I would highly recommend her and would definitely take her class again.

Professor Preston is a great teacher!!! Easy short readings to start and a paper. Mid term, then the rest were short poems and then the final. There were "short tests" in the beginning of the semester that was asking for the summary of stories that were assigned. Just read the material, study for the 2 tests and speak up in class for EXTRA CREDIT.

She is very clear about what she expects from the students. I took her class during COVID-19 and there were weekly assignments that consisted in writing a short paragraph about the assigned stories from the book. She responds emails within 24 hours. Also, she gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Take her class and you won't regret it.

Throughout these difficult times, this professor has understood the time and importance of students' daily lives that distract us from our school activities. Just a quick email to notify her of any problems can be solved in a few minutes. You must learn to participate and tell jokes! She is a wonderful professor, would love to take this class again

She is a good professor! I have taken her twice and she is an old soul. She is old school and didn't understand online at first but she got the hang of it. Online, there are no test and just a few assignments. Its an easy A if your trying to take the class and pass.

I can not stress how amazing Professor Preston is. Her classes are fun and laid back. She transitioned amazing online, you can email her for anything. She uses a point system for extra credit, you can have partners for midterm/final. She is so kind too, really cares about students. I really cant say enough nice things about her. Take her!

Genuinely cares about each student. Encourages participation - you must write and share but it's done in a judge free zone. She gets your creative thoughts moving as each class starts with a short free wirte. She loves to write and that enthusiasm is contagious. She gives plenty of time between assignmnets. You'll love this class.

Professor Preston is such a great professor and you will not want to miss her lectures because they are so fun. She makes the class fun by telling us jokes ands encourages students to interpret them. She rarely gives homework and as long as you complete a reaction paper, midterm and final exam, you will get an A. I would totally recommend her.

I had this professor for a creative writing course and its an easy A. Starts the class with corny jokes and a Talley sheet if you get the answer to the joke. We do a topic of writing for the day and read our expert to the class. She makes us preform a speech every week which I was confused since its not public speaking. Little to no effort

Professor Preston is nice and caring. Her class was not hard and it was honestly kind of interesting and fun at times. She did do some odd things imo, but I do think she was just trying to help us. She does stop and stare at you if she sees you yawn but I found that funny. I enjoyed the freedom of writing what I wanted to and being creative.

Professor Preston is a super kind caring and understanding professor. Enjoyed her class although she does tend to ramble and repeat herself a lot its ok because thats how you learn! She's relatively lenient with due dates and she's understanding of any situation and will try to accommodate you.

She was a very sweet and funny professor. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit with her corny jokes and factoids. Her lectures are very insightful and it's clear she's passionate about writing. She also gives fantastic feedback on the assignments. This class has helped many students come out of their shells so take her while you can!

Lots of extra credit points, just go to class every day, there's only like 2 and a half papers, there is a textbook but you can find all of it online so no reason to buy it

Professor Preston makes learning fun, she starts with corny jokes. You get points for participation, she takes hygiene seriously and I don't blame her one bit. Cough, sneeze, or yawn in your shirt, that is all she ask. When she read and ask question, it is as if you are in the actual story. she is just amazing hands down.
