she is loud and energetic. nice teacher. likes us to work in groups in class. used numbers to put us in groups. its a little bit like high school.she is obsessed with george clooney!!!
She talks too much and is not at all helpful. Complicates everything and grades really hard. She doesn't give out any A's because "There are no perfect papers."
Worst teacher ever! and i've had some doozies
If you like being tortured to death take her. If you want to survive college, DO NOT TAKE STAMPER! She fails everyone because there is no perfect paper. If you write excellent, she will automatically accuse you for plagiarism. She thinks she is funny, when really she is NOT! Her jokes are totally lame. She kicked my friend out for yawning in class.
This teacher hated(and failed) all of my papers because they were not personal enough. She was very confusing she wanted one thing but expected the total opposite. she was the worst teacher i have ever taken...my advise is to drop her class before its too late.
She IS a very tough teacher! I struggled through her class but i was amazed to get a C. It is a difficult class, do not use your cellphone and always try your hardest in this class and have everything turned in on time. She does talk a lot but she is fun to be around. I have always had good Eng. Grades but she is definatly a challenge.
I took her my freshman year of college and it was horrible. If you do not go visit her during office hours you will fail bc it says to her that you dont care... It was a horrible experience I barely passed with a B she was nice and all but the whole office hours thing really bugged me... My grades automatically went up once i saw her.
I went into her class expecting to learn something. when I left I learned absolutely nothing. I tried my hardest to pass the class. every essay of mine was a 60. she expects us to write like her. everybody writes differently. she doesn't help students better understand the material. I wouldn't recommend her
By far one of the hardest classes I have yet to take. She has this thing that everyone should write exactly like her, but believes no one is capable of doing so... She grades very harshly. I did learn a lot in her class, however keeping up with all her assignments was extremely difficult. I only recommend this class if you like the challenges, otherwise DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH STAMPER.
Ms. Stamper is a very nice person but a very picky teacher. she dosen't like things perfect she likes things the Stamper way. she puts lot's of emphasis on her t's for some reason and she is very hard to understand during lecture. she sais to get help from her in her office but helps very little. I took her as a freshman, horrible decision.
Worst English teacher i had ever. She wants her way when it come to the essays. i went to the writing center to get help and the tutor said it was a good essay but when i got it back from Miss Stamper She gave it a D- and mark everything wrong. Don't take her classes.
She is the worst teacher English teacher. She never gave anyone a grade higher than a C on any papers. She expected everyone to be pro writers. I didn't learn a thing in her class. She was never helpful when going to meet her in her office, she just critized all my papers. She never had anything good to say. NO ONE TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Worst Teacher I have ever had! I took her a paper to revise three different times before turning it in for the final time and she gave me a 64% on the paper that she corrected three different times. I don't think she even knows what she wants in a paper. I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE TO TAKE THIS TEACHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL.
Do not take Stamper unless you want to fail.
Hardest class I've ever taken, and I took ap lit and ap lang in high school. Grades super super harsh. Highest grade was a C and Im getting A's in English 3. Do not take this class at all wait a semester or take it at Willow or something if you can, trust me.
I have to admit, she was a tough teacher. She wanted things her way, in terms of writing. Although it was a tough class, she was an understanding teacher and wanted her students to become better writers. I thank her for helping me become a better writer. I recommend if you are willing to work to become better at writing. Next step for me-- ENGL 3!
It does take a lot to be a good writer. I loved the way the instructor teaches. Although, the class was tough the instructor was my favorite English instructor because she really teaches you how to be a better/good writer. People should not expect instructors to give out good grades. you have to earn them and she makes you earn your grade!
Elaine was a very picky teacher and I taught myself to like her,She failed me and I went to visit during office hours and she just got annoyed with me and asked me to leave so I went to the writing center for help and they said my paper was good but when I gave it to Elaine it was not good enough so be cautious and try hard otherwise don't take her
She expects all the work to be perfect. We used the workbook twice and it was a waste of money. She did confuse us on due dates a lot. You really have to work super hard, which is hard since people do have other classes to focus on. Getting an A+ is impossible. If you like a challenge take her class.
She's the worst teacher I've ever had. She expects students to go out of their way for office hours regardless of jobs and full time enrollment. She can't keep up with her own schedule but expects you to be on time with all her last minute changes. No paper is good enough. The class got D's and F's for in class work that she helped us on. Total bs.
If you really want to learn how to write take this instructor. She is a hard grader and has high standard but that what I liked about her. I learned how to write much better. This has helped me in my current job tremendously.
She is a pretty tough teacher but she is really smart. I would recommend her for english 125. I took her for that and barely got an A. After that class I took english 1A and got the highest grade in my class and breezed through with an A. I came in to her class getting C's and finished getting an A+ on essays. She will help you if you need it.
She does not like to be called Stamper, but she is an excellent teacher who will help prepare you for your other classes. She is a tough grader, but if you do what she wants you will receive a good grade in her class. It is important that you write everything she says during lecture, and pay attention.
I took Ms. Stamper for English 1A Spring 2015, and I'm not going to lie she's a hard grader!! You have to take her class seriously if you want to pass. I recommend you to go talk to her about your essays, she does help you once you go and ask her for help. I received all D's and one C on my essays and I barley passed. So if I can pass anyone can!
Overall, she is not a bad teacher; yet her way of grading is "Her way or the Highway!" She explains the way she wants your paper to be written and you do your best to do it how she wants it; but, when she returns your paper it's all wrong!
She is a good teacher but she is a hard at grading. She expects a lot from her students and you need to take this class serious. You are going to have to write a lot and be prepared for higher expectations coming from her.

Honestly this is a hard class, you need to make sure you do not mess around and always do your work on time! Elaine expects a lot from her students but if I passed the class, so can you! Just try your best and stay positive. P.s go to her office hours, that's important
As a current 4th year at UCSB who went to Reedley for two years, this class has still been in my mind the most difficult, but also the most rewarding. Stamper is a crazy instructor but you can learn a lot from her. She really cares about writing (which is crazy) to the point where she wants to make you seasoned writers in 6 months.
this class was hard, but a great learning experience. ALOT of homework. LONG essays, summaries. DONT EVER have your phone out in class she will kick you out of class and you will get no credit for the day and for the homework. if you are late or absent to her class she will not except the homework or essays,not even for a couple mins.
Take this class only if you can write like Shakespeare. If you cant good luck.

Literally you just have to show up and do all the work on time and you should at least get a C. She seems a little bitter though everything bothers her. She expects everyone to do everything on time but she constantly procrastinates and is late.
This teacher is the type that wants you to work hard, that's true. And if you are passionate about english and don't mind heavy criticism, then this is the class for you. However, she is not sympathetic. She doesn't care if you've got other priorities that are actually more important than spending every day working, she's not the understanding type
Expects a lot but gives a lot
She is a very tough grader who only cares about what she wants. She won't help you out if don't go to class and she blames her mistakes on her class when it is clearly her fault. If you want to fail a class just to see how it feels let me tell you this is the perfect class. Overall great teacher though:)

She does 3 writing projects in the semester. ALL of them were super hard. I used to always get a' s & b's on essays but in this class I got only d's. Probally 80% of class would get d's and the rest would be c's. It was rare if she gave out a B. This class is a class that makes you want to drop out of college! Trust me dont take her class!!!
I actually learned a lot in this class however I would prefer if her political views didnt come up as much in her lectures
Ive never had a good English teacher, until now. Its funny to read these bad reviews. Im sorry, but if you didnt do well chances are you didnt get help, and you thought you could just do the bare minimum and get by. She is always available in her office and is always encouraging students to come see her. My writing improved so much.
Elaine was my instructor for English 125 and then decide to take her again for English 1A. She is an amazing instructor and very nice and also a bit funny. Honestly she does get a little frustrated at times, usually because the students act like children when they are suppose to be adults. Just give all your attention to her and you'll do great!
Very tough professor you will learn in this class. She grades very tough. I would not recommend this class.
if you are here to check if this teacher is hard, I wish I could rate a 0. Stamper was one of the HARDEST teachers I have ever taken. I DO NOT recommend and would advise to take another teacher even if it's last minute. If you enjoy being CALLED OUT, and embarrassed in front of the class, proceed. Write hard working essays to be graded VERY tough!!
She gets a lot of flak for being frustrated or seeming disappointed, but that seems to be most veteran teachers. When students apply themselves in her class, or ask for help she's super cooperative.
If you have already alot to do, don't take this class. If you miss to turn in 1 assignment. She won't let you turn in the next until you turn in your missing work. And if you don't turn in the missing work before the next is due, she won't accept it. This class is only for people who have little to nothing happening in their life.
Stamper has been pretty fair in my case. However, she does give out a pretty large amount of work, and the essays can be a bit strict. Just follow the instructions, do your best, and ask for help, and you'll probably be fine. If it isn't working out right from the start, just drop out.
If you don’t like English and want to actually pass don’t take her classes.

I took this class on 2019 she is very hard teacher I believe she has no other life then make students life miserable, if you have a chance do not take this class with her cuz I learned it the bad way.

took this class in 2023. Elaine really cares about her students. english 1a talked about forced sterilization and it was quite interesting. The only thing that sucks is you can't move onto another assignment until the first assignment is completed. But other than that if you listen to her feedback and actually do your work you'll get a decent grade
From the first day Elaine showed us so many resources the college provides.People who complain simply do not want to put in work. She is very clear, helpful, and understanding.This is college reading/writing.Every assignment will help you with the next Lazy people did not like the class.Spoiler alert...you actually learn when you put in the effort.
If you show up and do the work you will be fine. The assignments basically tell you what to put in your essays. I found her often repeating herself to students who just do not make an effort. You also have the modules to reflect on.
Conveyed clear lessons and expectations. She was too patient with people who kept talking during class. Grades really is a reflection on one self. Class was interesting and helpful.
I found Mrs. Stamper to be very unprofessional. She was habitually late posting modules but still wanted work in by the original deadline. Her instructions came off as almost intentionally vague and were definitely confusing. She talks a lot without saying much, so her presentations take a lot of time for no reason.
The worst experience i ever had as a college student.
As a person, she was very sweet and nice. Though I was unable to keep up with the class as she swamps you with insanely long reading assignments and has you submit them via photograph, and they are usually worth almost nothing in terms of points, but you still HAVE to do them as if you do not complete an assignment, it won't let you complete others
Worst experience ever. Worked so hard Turing in all these assignments she expects to have done at a certain time yet does not even grade them on time . She is rude. So many long paragraphs and essays to only be worth ONE point basically nothing . Do not take any class with her .
In canvas you cannot do the next assignment until the previous one is done, she locks the assignments so you have to do the previous one. If you just press submit to move on she will report you for academic dishonesty. I missed class one time and I emailed her that

Lots of homework is due specifically over the weekend, which she does not grade until the end of the semester. Great lectures when she isn't frustrated (rare). Gave this professor the benefit of the doubt despite all the negative comments, big mistake.
This professor was by far the worst English professor I have had. Her class was very hard and gave meaningless homework and a lot of it. Tough grader and didn't really explain directions well. Class attendance was mandatory. Overall I would not recommend her and should be avoided at all cost.
Fast paced reading at 1st & you can't open an assignment until you finish the first,but completing 1 assignment will help you with the next.She will make time to help you, &she helps you get help from other resources too.I think I would have got an A had I asked for more help.If you think this class was hard wait until you see how a university is.
Do not recommend taking this class with her. Homework was insanely a large amount of work and all of them worth so little points.
Professor makes crude comments that makes students uncomfortable and doesn't explain lessons well, would not recommend taking.
This teacher will make your life miserable. She is out of touch and says offensive things often. SO behind on grading. Yells and gets mad about weird things(will kick students out of class). I feel I have learned very little and would definitely never recommend. Grading Scale is also very weird and she adjusts it in the middle and end of the year.
Professor assigns a ton of homework that was not useful. Was very picky with grading. Said unnecessarily rude and offensive things most often directed to students (Was just rude to students in general). Will talk your ears off by constantly repeating herself and or going off on tangents. Overall a negative person.

Elaine is an AMAZING professor and clearly cares about her students' success in her class. The assignments she gives out aren't worth a lot, but they're there to help you do better on bigger things, such as essays. The assignments also aren't difficult, making them easy points to give your grade a boost. The books are interesting and manageable.
3 Years later, I want you all to know this is still the worst teacher I've ever had. Please stay away from this class with her. Save your time.
Don't let these bad reviews scare you--Elaine is an incredible professor that recognizes your hard work. If you're not willing to make corrections to your papers and genuinely make an effort, you will fail. All the work is manageable and provides a healthy challenge. Her feedback is genuinely both helpful and thoughtful. Assigned books are great.
Ladies and Gents do not be dissuaded by her low overall score. She may be a strict grader on assignments; however, her feedback is so useful. Try and show up to every lecture because she loves to do activities with students and have everyone get familiar with each other. I do say this is the only class where I felt comfortable talking to everyone.

Horrible teaching style! Emotionally unstable!! Cried during class to us because we didn't want to ask questions about her lecture!! Made us write her an apology??? Would single you out in front of the whole class and argue with u in front of everyone and take you out of class to talk to you if you were late to class!!
Please don't fall for the reviews glazing this professor. This professor has genuinely left me traumatized and remembering my value as a human being outside of education. Whatever issue she's got I'm 99% sure I have it now. On my hb life this class will ruin you
This professor had my class read some really enjoyable books and researching interesting topics. She also gave really detailed feedback with my papers and assignments helping me get better at writing papers. Her grading was fairly difficult and she would dock points for tiny mistakes. There were also a lot of pointless feeling assignments.
Her grading system was set up to fail. How is one paper worth half the grade. Made us write all the papers at the end of the year
Super sweet and helpful
She took literally forever to grade things, and when she did grade the feedback was minimal and not helpful at all. There was so much homework every week and most of the assignments are 0-2 points and affect your grade very heavily. No matter what you do, DO NOT take her, you will regret it almost immediately.
Assigns HW on weekends, couldnt do essay until she graded previous one, then took 4ever to grade and gave no time to complete essay. Set up to fail. “You are the reason I drink” cussed, really unprofessional. hw is worth pretty much 0 points. Essays are impossible to get an A on. Whole class was about politics & if you don't agree youll fail
This is one if not the worst class I have taken in my life. she was nice but her grading isint shetries to be helpful on essays but even if you think your getting an A on an essay your not. she gave over 100 assigments in the span on a 12 week class she makes sure to give extra work on holidays. I did a 4 page essay on thanksgiving night :(
One of the worse classes I have taken. Professor is not diverse in opinions. Felt targeted in this class in lots of ways. This felt more like a history class then english and honestly didn't further my knowledge in anyway. Assignment instructions were confusing at times and if you needed help you are better off going to the tutor. Wouldnt recommend
I don't recommend this professor. A lot of random assignments with her specific grading scale that no one can really help you with. Only grades on the last week of the course so if you fail, you fail. And doesn't round up your grade due to her own odd system. She doesn't explain well and every test is impossible to pass. The nice reviews are fake
