Overboard on minute details, but that's what makes it interesting. A nice addition to Tech.
this class will be fairly easy if you go to all lectures and pay attention. she gives a little bonus, but listen hard and study your notes and the book. she's a good teacher and made history interesting
Good teacher who likes to talk... alot! Only take her if you are ready to listen and work! She does give bonus credit and is nice.
Good teacher, makes her political views known though. Her tests are fairly easy, 30 percent come exactly off online quizes. I am easily making a high b if not an A. She seems to be a nice woman who really cares!
I love Dr. Thompson! She's crazy and fun. I love listening to her talk about History. I bummed that she's not teaching 202 next quarter because I would enjoy taking a class by her again.:) She's fair and her tests are easy but challenging. If you come prepared, you will leave with knowledge! :)
I love this class and recommend everyone to take it under Dr. Thompson. She makes things interesting, yet you have to work to earn your grade. The class is fairly easy, but it is not a class you should sleep in. There are some bonus points to help bring up your grade which should be from a B to A
I think she is a good teacher.
It's obvious she takes time to create presentations. Communication is outstanding, easily keeps to students format of understanding. She is always willing to take time to answer questions and makes sure that she has answered the question asked. She is not afraid of her students. Earns respect 100%!
I really like this teacher. She sounds so lively when she lectures and she just makes it more interesting. you do have to go to every class and study to make a good grade.
Dr. T is incredibly knowledgable about her subject and incredibly good at relating her lectures to the class. Her use of Powerpoint really enhances the lectures and keeps me awake. I imagine she curls up in front of her fireplace in a comfy armchair each night and reads history books for fun.
very good teacher; well-spoken. realates topics well to class. makes history interesting, if you can believe that. you have to pay attention, but if you do tests are fairly easy.
doesnt teach what is going to be on the test
She's a great teacher that really knows how to express what was going on. If you listen she gives away test answers like candy. And her study guides are helpful too :)
Dr. Thompson takes the extra effort to make sure her students understand the material. She gives opportunties for study sessions, which not many profs do.
She makes you understand what she is teaching in a way that is pure commical at times. She's Awesome and I'd highly reccommend her to all my friends. Wish she would reconsider teaching 202 next quarter!
She makes history fun. This is the only history class I have ever liked. Its very apparent that she loves what she does and she is more than willing to help those who are struggling. The study sessions are great and her bonus questions always crack me up!
She enjoys what she teaches, no doubt about it. Her lectures are lively. However, you've *got* to read and take the online tutorial quizzes with the book. 80% of her test questions come from the tutorial quizzes.
She is a wonderful teacher. And hot
she knows her stuff. easy tests
Dr. T is an awesome professor. Made History fun. Dont have to read the book (or even buy it!) Just do the online quizes and study the answers and show up for class (take good notes) & you could get a B or an A. She is REALLY enthusiastic about History, making it fun to learn. extra credit available.
Very great teacher. If you sit near the front, it's easier to stay interested. She's fun. Really nice to talk to. She doesn't like cell phones, gum smacking, and talking, but that's understandable. Study for tests, take online quizes and take notes and you'll do fine on the tests.
She is easy!
pretty easy class - gives bonus on the tests. She knows so much and is so well-prepared that she makes listening to her lectures like listening to a story. I wasn't expecting this class to be as interesting as I found it to be.
One high quality teacher! Probably the best at Tech. I highly recommend....
Great Teacher! She made history very interesting. Her lectures were like listening to a story. She really knows her material and can keep you entertained.

She is an awesome teacher. She is very smart and is very willing to help you if you need it. Take the online quizzes and take good notes and listen in class and you will be FINE on the tests. She also gives bonus. She's wonderful and I highly recommend her!
Bad teacher! All these other people who reported good things about her are nuts... she always says that certain things are on the tests, and they never actually are. Trust me- stay far away from "sister"
Dr. T is an authentic college professor. she knows her material and will teach it very well. come to class and do your work and there is no reason you can't get an A. very nice lady
I really enjoyed this class. It is an easy A as long as you come to class and stay awake.
If you are super into History this is the professor for you, she def. loves the subject.
She really wants the students to do well.
She is a little unprofessional, and does not yet have the qualities of an "authentic college professor." she seems to know the material very well, but is somewhat confusing in the presentation. always slow to give back test grades.
tests were nothing like the material..although she did drop the lowest test grades..soo it helped
Dr. T is an excellent professor. There are two distinct groups of people who think her tests are either difficult, or rather easy. If you try to focus on details, like names and dates, you will think the tests are difficult. If you attend class and actively listen, you will know what is important to study for. Good job Dr. T.
First two tests aren't too bad, and she drops the lowest of those. Watch out, though, for that final! That's where she'll get you.
Dr. Thompson is a great teacher you learn the most not by taking notes in her class but just listening. All tests are essay so remember important buzz words that she mentions in class.

she stinks
She loves her subject and really projects that, and her enthusiasm is contagious. Rather than just teaching names 'n dates she teaches the "whys" of History. It's like the Psychology of History, and that approach has helped me to understand & appreciate History in a new way! Thanks Dr. T!!
Good teacher, easy test, very interested in her area of study
Great teacher. She makes you really appreciate history. She's not hard, just take good notes. She's a real historian.
I took her and the class was boring..i took very good notes but got a D in the class..studied my ass off too..maybe its just me..i thought she was hard

I did not like her. Her test were way to hard and I studied very hard for them. I made an A in 202 in Dr.Ethridges class. The only thing that helped me in her class were the quizzes were if you do them you get a 100 test grade, and she drops you lowest grade. Lot harder than nessecary. Take Etheridge if possible his test come straight from lecture.
She is a good teacher..lectures always interesting..she is very funny too...but her tests are extremely difficult..for an elective class...i think it is rediculously hard...the quizes help and she drops lowest test score...she will answer cell phones!!!!
Her lectures are always interesting, and she has a very nice sense of humor. All of her powerpoints are on Blackboard, and I suggest printing them ALL out the first day of class. Her test are really difficult, I recommend studying..a lot. But overall an excellent teacher.

She is a good teacher. Her tests are pretty hard. Mostly on things not in the lectures. Take the quizzes on Blackboard. She lets you take them as many times as you want until its perfect. Not the easiest class in the world.
she is awesome and her test are exacty her lecture. She gives 1 100% grade by doing quizes on the internet and drops the lowest of the first 2 of 3 test grades. I made a 101 on the first test and did not have to do anything else until the last test. BC she dropped my second test.
I liked her a lot. She tries to make lectures interesting and she knows her material so well. However, I have a short attention span so her 2-hour TR classes weren't the best for me. She drops the lowest of the two first tests and will explain anything you ask her. Warning: DO NOT BEG FOR BONUS POINTS--she gets really mad! Pretty easy A
Very boring lectures. You can skip out and be just as fine on the tests, as if you were there. EXCEPT, that she sometimes gives an answer to a bonus question on the test. Tests are very difficult, b/c a lot of it is random stuff not in the lecture. Other than that, she does give online quizzes that help your grade out, and drops lowest test grade.
She's puts up power points on blackboard for you to follow her in class and most of the tests are from them. she puts up quizes for every chapter that you go over in class online which are on the test too. all in all pretty easy class just do the work.
WOW.. what can i say ... her tests were tough! I did all the quizzes online and that helped my grade... the quizzes count as one grade and there's a bunch of them .. but they're not hard.. you can take them as many times as you want. However, her tests were HARD!!!! ONe time i studied for 2 days!!! AND i STILL did horrible on her test!
This class is mainly lectures like most are. She loves history and it shows. She gives online quizzes for each test and you can take them as many times as you like so you know you can get a 100 on those. There are 3 in class test to take and all you have to do is pass 2 of them because she drops the lowest test grade. RECOMMENDED!
I didn't have a problem in this class. Her lectures are very thorough, so if you take good notes are read them, you'll do just fine. She's very interested in the subject which is helpful. I did use the textbook, but I think you could probably get by without it if you had to.
Her tests are very hard. They are multiple choice. You get three tests total and she drops the lowest grade of the first two tests. She also gives you online quizzes which you can take until you get a 100. I did good in the class because of the quizzes and the dropping grade.
Dr. Thompson is a very good teacher. Her tests are hard and when class gets boring, she tends to make it interesting. She'll randomly sing in class and ask if anything is unsure. Keep your phone on silent- if it goes off, she'll answer it! STUDY FOR HER TESTS! She drops the lowest and averages online quizzes, so it's an easy a on those.
Her bark is alot worse than her bite. She acts mean but isn't really. She makes class interesting. Print & study the online quizes. She gives study guides on blackboard-use them. Just go to class, take notes, & study & you'll be fine.
Great professor. When I started taking a disliking to my former major, I went to her for advice and now History is my major. You've got to study.Go to class or you'll miss out.She taught me things that the book didn't even think about touching.Very funny, expect singing and random jokes. Mandatory polls as well. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Great prof! Always helpful and truly knows her stuff!
She is extremely intelligent, although her biased views offend a majority of the class. She needs to focus more on the topic shes discussing rather than what she herself thinks. Nobody cares how the teacher feels about the subject, they'd rather learn the material necessary to fully understand the course than her opinions on things.
Dr. Thompson is not a very interesting professor, but she shows up to class late some quarters and some quarters she likes to cancel classes a lot. She will always work with you. I think she is easy because she does not want to do work herself. I mean you have to study for the test, but that's it. She grades papers easy.
Bad experience. Power points full of fragmented sentences and useless info. Tests are hard. Include 30 fill in the blanks where spelling counts without a study guide. I guess the only way to pass that part is to memorize every word of every slide.
She asks questions on her powerpoints and uses fragmented sentences constantly. Infatuation with Indians, talks about them forever. I didn't seem to learn much about Louisiana
Dr. Thompsons class is easy to make a good grade in. easy quizzes but hard test. She does drop the lowest test grade.
Her tests are very difficult. A lot of information covered for each test. Drops the lowest grade and online quizzes count for an 100 point grade. She does give a lot of bonus point opportunities so take advantage of those!
Okay... Not the best.. But better than most.. And kinda easy!
Class is tough. Her test are straight from the lectures and powerpoints. Be prepared to get someone's notes if you miss a class, because her slides are some of the worst I've ever seen. GO TO CLASS, pay some sort of attention, and a C shouldn't be that difficult.
I love Ms. Thompson! I hate history! But the way she explains things makes you interested and she knows what she is talking about so she explains VERY WELL!! Test are easy as long as you attend class and take notes! <- that's your test
Dr. Thompson knows her stuff, the lectures cover a lot of material so be ready to take lots of notes. The test a moderately difficult, in order to do well you need to pay attention to the main topics, the quizzes, and the readings in the book.
Entire classes are long lectures. she is very clear and knows what she is talking about. However, what she lectures about, Is not what is on her tests. She does not do test review, but if you have any questions, she will answer them.. My only issue with her was that her tests where not really what she lectures about.
Awesome teahcer! Really knows her stuff and relays the information well. If you do what she says and pay attention you will breeze through, especially if you love history!
I went into this class expecting it to be boring and dreaded having it on my schedule. I figured out very quickly that she is passionate about history and made me want to learn. She uses many examples and scenarios to explain. She has a corny sense of humor but it's funny. I really enjoyed history because of her. Very clear and excellent professor.
She's not very good. She gets really frustrated if you ask too many questions so make sure to pay attention. She hates repeating herself. You have 3 test to take and she drops your lowest grade. Warning: her test are difficult. If you buy the book it helps with her lectures. You're more away of what's going on but don't really NEED it.
Great teacher! I loved her. She is a little strict ,but she gives you all you need if you just pay attention.
her class isn't just plain memorization of facts and dates which makes it harder to study which really stinks, but she's so passionate that i would take her again!
good teacher as long as you are pay attention and check moodle frequently and show up for class
History isn't my favorite or best subject, but Dr. T made it fun and interesting. Her lectures aren't boring, because you can tell how much she loves what she's teaching. She provides extra credit opportunities. Test are hard to study for though. Quizzes are guaranteed 100s if you actually do them. Don't show up to class late!
Dr. T is great! Very helpful if you need help. Easy to talk to. Just be respectful and do your work.
Very knowledgeable, a bit of a corny sense of humor, lectures are reasonably engaging. Do not arrive late to class, or risk being subjected to brief public humiliation followed invariably by, "I forget what I was talking about" and a pointed stare. Tests are pretty easy, no papers or projects. I didn't read the book past chapter one and got an A.
I'm not sure why everybody likes Dr. Thompson. I honestly thinks she rambles on and on about nothing. Her instructions are not very clear and at times she can't seem to make up her mind on what she wants you to do. How are you supposed to be the teacher when you give me half-assed powerpoints and vague instructions, even when you ask for help!
It can sometimes be very hard to pay attention in a two hour lecture, but Dr. T is so passionate and exciting about LA history that it made it very interesting!
the class is basically a lecture class. the powerpoints are her talking points so you really have to attend class and listen. i made below a 60 on 2/3 test and now i have a 91 average. there are many quizzes that will give u an easy 100. the quizzes and extra credit are what i depend on for a passing grade!!!
basically she rambles for two hours about topics that you will never see on a test. will complain about any and everything. She cancelled class 2 times right before finals. Uploaded video lectures that more than half the class could not access due to her not knowing what she's doing and said "well idk what to tell ya, borrow someone's andriod."
Great teacher, very passionate about history. Tests are hard, but you can pass easily if you study. No study guides, so it's kind of hard to determine what will be on the tests. no homework, so passing the 3 exams is a must to walk out with a good grade. All in all, just go to class and study and you'll be fine.
Great teacher but be ready to take notes and participate in the lecture.
Tests are weighted insanely heavily, to which there is no study guide to. Many topics on test are not covered in lecture or PowerPoint. Lots of easy quizzes to do on your own time, but they have very little value to your grade. Of 50 quiz questions, ~10 are on the big tests, which is hardly enough to secure a decent grade alone.
Absolutely loved this class, this was the highlight of my winter quarter. If you are a history major, highly recommend. Dr. T is very passionate about history and makes two hours fly by. I will definitely be taking more classes with her in the future.
This class was by far the worst I have ever taken here at Tech. She loves to call out students in the middle of class, as well as gives no insight as to what will be on the test AT ALL. There are only 3 grades. 3 tests. All fill-in-the-blank. The only resources to study are 10 lectures per test. Would not recommend this lady.
Dr. T is an excellent choice for a history professor. Her lectures are interesting and she genuinely makes you enjoy learning the subject. Her tests are extremely difficult as they are textbook based rather than lecture based. She does, however, provide plenty of bonus points to help your grade. Take the quizzes!!!
She was a great professor, she knew what she was talking about. The tests are hard but she offers plenty of bonus points. Sometimes when someone asks an off-topic question, she might ramble off about it or search for it to show everyone. Do take notes and read the textbook if you wanna pass the test. Other than that her class flies by.
On most of the tests most of them were not even topics we discussed in class. She would get lost in lectures and go off on a 45 minute tangent about whatever
She really isnt that bad compared to what you may have heard. Be prepare to be good at studying, exams have multiple fill in the blanks!!
Her lectures are great and entertaining. There's a lot of information and detail in her lectures so make sure to take good notes in order to study. Tests are taken in class. Quizzes are in Canvas and it's your responsibly to take them all before the test day. Her tests can be difficult, you have to study, and I would recommend reading the textbook.
She is very strict and unkind. She makes attendance mandatory yet publicly shamed me for coming to class while sick. She's passive aggressive and doesn't care about knowing you at all (ie. she never called me the correct name in emails). Tests are incredibly difficult and hard to pass. If you're a genius and never sick, then you can maybe pass.
As long as you do all of your work and ask questions, this class is fairly easy. She gives chances for bonus points on every test, and quizzes are done outside of class. The tests are very difficult, but as long as you study you should at least pass them. The way she lectures can be interesting at times and she definitely knows her stuff.
