I can do simple multiplication and division, but when it comes to formulas and memorization of them, it's challenging, especially when they are formulas you probably won't ever use again. It's a tough class. Not mandatory to be there, but it is essential to passing. You miss a lot when not there. VERY thick accent and makes mistakes often.
Bautista is almost impossible to understand. She makes mistakes on the board and her slides way too often. She tries her best to teach but it really isn't her thing. & don't base your grades off of blackboard it'll end up surpising you 3 days before the final exam bc she doesn't enter the points in accordingly to the percentages on her syllabus.
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. I took Stats previously and understood everything and enjoyed it. DO NOT expect to comprehend anything she says, her accent is horrible. The grade on blackboard is not your true grade. She makes a lot of mistakes on notes and is inconsistent when grading homework and test.
You cannot understand because she has a strong accent. She takes more time writing the study guid than making the test. Test are very difficult to do since it is very breif. Final is comulative. She has a good personality but it is hard to take a class when you do not understand the teacher and she is very disorganized.
First half of the semester I was able to follow her lectures and understand most of the material. Second half started becoming complex and she started making a lot of mistakes during her lecture notes. I spent a lot of my time outside of the class re-reading the chapters and learning on my own. You can pass but you've gotta put in the work.
When I had her, it was my first time taking a Statistics class. She made the material so hard to understand. She jumps around and when I would ask questions, she would confuse more than I already was. Try not to miss the class because missing one class is like missing a week. You can pass, but you have to teach yourself.
The class overall was not too difficult to get a great grade (I unfortunately received an A-) however there are only 3 tests the whole semester and you must perform well on them to do well. The homework throughout the year impacts your grade a lot. It is true she is unclear because of her accent but you get used to it. Overall, I can recommend her.
Write/print the notes before class and attend labs b/c she helps you with your questions/mistakes there (the wkshts are useful for hw and to study for exams). Ask questions, go to her office hours, even if she has an accent, she basically tells you what you need. Seriously, go to class, it really helps. She is also hilariously random at times.
The final will kill you.
She makes many mistakes on the board. The lecture is all reading a power point that she previously print. The exams are too big and there is never time to finish all the exam. She does not clarify any question and have a terrible accent.
She has a thick accent but you get used to it. Turn in all your homework & do all the labs. Tests are almost identical to the study guide. If you need help go to office hours or ask during lab, she's good at explaining one on one. She's pretty funny. Stats is a tough subject to begin with so don't think you can slack off. Just show up to class.
Really great professor. She assigns homework that is due every Friday and grades it pretty strictly. 3 midterms and a final. Tests are not too hard if you do the study guide she gives you, the questions are really similar. Tries to be funny which makes her funny. Always there to help during her office hours.
Homework is do every Friday and she's tough when it comes to grading. She does not give you credit for attempting to do the homework and makes it worth a lot of points. She makes a lot of mistakes during class and students usually have to correct her. The test and really difficult so overall I do not recommend this professor.
personality wise, this teacher is awesome but beware. She makes multiple mistakes every class and doesn't explain anything clearly. her tests were fairly difficult. homework is easy but she grades it really tough. I suggest avoiding this teacher at all costs. you can pass this class but you will have to either go to tutoring or learn it yourself.
She was great! So inspirational and patient. I took the class during the summer, was tough but she warned us! A really good and inspirational teacher.
At the beginning of the semester I struggled in her class. Her accent is very thick and sometimes hard to understand but you get used to it after a while. The homework isn't too bad. The labs are pretty easy if you pay attention and take notes. And as long as you study, you'll get a good grade on her exams. I went to tutoring which really helped.
She is a great person and funny personality, but as a teacher she is really hard to like. Several mistakes, unclear in material, and grades very tough. You can have the right answer, but if your work does not represent every minor step you will lose points. Tests are HARD even if you study. I struggle in math already, so this was difficult for me.
Easily Confused Does not give clear information on how to do the math Her slides are pointless, pay attention to example problems if you want to get anywhere Poor teaching ability, and heavy accent so she's hard to understand If she says the word right, she stops goes back and says it wrong "Statistics, I mean estadistics"
It is Statistics, which in general it is a hard subject. If you go to lectures/labs and actually pay attention by taking notes & asking questions you will understand the material. She is always willing to help you, don't be afraid to stop her in the middle of a lecture, go to her office hours or email her. Overall, she is an amazing teacher!!
Really recommend this teacher she is great and very willing to help outside of class!
I took Stats in High School and failed but my first semester I took it with Professor Bautista and she really helped me understand everything and was very willing to help I strongly recommend taking her.
Some may say that these reviews may be bias but I am your average student. Avoid her. She is funny, you'll get used to her accent in within two weeks. My class started out full and by the last few weeks, about half of the class was still there. Only 30% of the students passed her second test. So yea avoid this professor.
She's pretty nice and funny but honestly she grades the homework so hard it can drop your grade immensely. One little mistake or if you don't show every little step you'll get a ton of points knocked off. I'd say avoid her if you can.
Elda is an amazing professor. She grades her homework hard so make sure to pay attention to detail. Reviewing homework and labs will help a lot when it comes to exams. I typically did my labs at home so during lab time she was available to answer questions about the course. I would highly recommend a study group. Overall she's a great professor.
Elda is funny and passionate about what she's teaching. She's a little fast paced and lectures are mostly powerpoint. She's very helpful both inside and outside of the classroom. Exams are somewhat difficult but if you ask questions, show up to lectures and participate, I'm sure you'll pass. She gives study guides and goes over them in class.
Elda Bautista is a terrible teacher. She is very fast paced and isn't clear when she teaches. I don't recommend taking her.
The grading scale is very easy being a 60% to get a C. But she is horrible at lecturing. She moves through at a fast pace and doesn't stop if you do not get it. The tests re very difficult and I WOULD NOT recommend taking her. She is a very nice person though.
Elda goes through her lecture really fast and it is extremely difficult to learn at her pace. Although she is accessible outside of class, she won't really help with homework/issues understanding the lecture because she expects you to know what she is talking about right away.
Her class is content heavy, but you can easily receive a good grade if you take the time to understand the material. If you don't understand something in the class, she is more than happy to help you, or you can review the textbook.
Elda is a really good professor and knows what she is talking about. She is super funny however, she is a super tough grader but she will help you if you need it during her office hours. It is important for you do her study guides and review her labs before her exams because most of the questions you have seen before.
Elda was a very sweet professor and I really enjoyed her humor. With that being said, I absolutely do not recommend her to students who struggle with math to take her. She goes over topics very briefly and does not explain in depth. She assigns A LOT of hw and grades it very toughly.
I will give you this, she is a sweet lady. however, what people tend to forget to tell you is that she has an incredibly thick accent. It's hard to understand what she is teaching. She also is one of those math teachers who want problems done and written down a specific way. I think this makes it hard to get outside help. and tons of hw and quizzes
She makes a lot of simple mistakes and if you don't pay attention and catch her she will give you wrong examples. She brings her family into lessons, even tho it's entertaining it is very unrelated to the topic of which she is trying to describe. She describes things very weird and makes it seem more complex than what it needs to be.
Elda is very sweet and helpful. She has a thick accent therefore it can be a little hard to understand her. But if you ask her to repeat something she will. If youre lost or confused, ask for help and shell give it to you. Tests are problems from homework and from labs or similar at least.
Tests and homework can be out of many points. She does not curve grades at all but she does drop 2 of the lowest homework assignments. The reason why she doesnt curve is because she uses Mexicos grading scale. So an A would be from 90-100%, 85-89.99% is an A-, 80-84.99% is a B+ and so on. This helps a lot with your grade since Stats can be hard.
She is a great teacher! She does grade tough on homework and quizzes but she does do a quiz review the day of the quiz and a test review the class prior. The quizzes and tests are very similar to the reviews. She does move at a fast pace bit if you ask for clarification she is more than happy to go back.
I loved this teacher, shes super fun, sometimes can get a little off topic, but overall shes really helpful and explains quite well.
Elda is a hilarious Prof who loves her field of study. I found in class she can get off topic at times which is fine but her explanation of material can be confusing and hard to follow. This is the only class I have ever gotten a C in, but i wasnt trying very hard tbh.
Elda is nice but is very tough grader, if you struggle with math DO NOT TAKE HER unless you want be stuck in tutoring all day. The tests are worth way too much, failing one test can corrupt your whole grade. She gets side-tracked a lot. When doing lectures the first half doesn't make sense at all till she does the actual examples. Labs help.
I had taken Elda's class two times. The first time: I failed. It wasn't necessarily because of her teaching, it was because of me. I decided to take her class again because I liked the way she lectured. She has a funny personality, and is willing to help. Labs and examples are very important. Groups help a lot. Skip class you'll miss a lot.
Not the best class I have taken. Take another professor, this class made me stress to the MAX!
At first I wasn't looking forward to taking her class bc of the bad reviews, but her class isn't too bad. She may go off topic & has a heavy accent but you get use to it. There is a lot of hw, but she gives study guides for exams that are VERY VERY similar to the exam. The best part is she grades on a curve, 60% is a C- .
Statistics is a difficult class. The class has 3 midterms and a final. Make sure you Ace all hws and receive full credit on the labs. This class is 4 units so it will take a lot of time out of your other 3 unit classes. Attend tutoring, go to office hours and make study groups if you are not the best in the math. She gives formula sheets for tests
I took stats with this professor and it was tough. She grades VERY TOUGH. Sometimes my answers were correct and my work but she still would take points off. She moves really fast. GO TO SI SESSIONS they really do help. If you approach her and ask for help she can be nice but at the same time make you feel dumb.
She grades really hard on homework which has to be hand written and scanned. Does not give enough time for test and multiple students try to tell her and she woukd not give more time
She goes by Elda (you'll find out why). Tough grader but her grading curve saved me. Stats is a difficult subject, but this class honestly was not as hard as I thought (math is a fear of mine). She is a little hard to understand because of her thick accent, but she was an ok teacher. She does lots of examples which is nice. Do good on HW and labs!!
Professor Elda is amazing, she is very charismatic and you can see that she loves teaching. She is always ready to help and pretty straightforward. Participation does matter!! The course is not so difficult but if you want an A you have to master all concepts, the exams are very short and straighforward. I definitely recommend it.
Her syllabus grading versus her canvas grading is not the same at all. When you try to talk to her about it she just says your wrong and need to do better. Ridiculous. Teaches you the basics of a lesson but on exams she puts the hardest problems and expects you to know how to do it.
Do not choose this professor if you are taking any of her courses that she teaches. She creates multiple mistakes during lectures, reviews, and her exams. Expect to put in maximum effort if you want a B or higher as her exams doesn't provide enough time for you to master the standards. Expect to visit her in office hours to fix your grade.
Would recommend taking her class, she gives you lots of chances on tests and if you have a bad test you can always fix it on the next test. Make sure not to get behind on homework because it was all due at the end of the semester and it is better if you stay up with homework.
I failed this class and witched to no credit. She does give you lots of chances to master standards but it is still difficult. You also have to pay like $40 to access the homework
Honestly if there's a better professor take them instead. Her lectures go way too fast and it's difficult to understand her sometimes because of her accent. Her explanations don't make sense and she's not good at teaching the math concepts. Everyone in my class struggled. BUT she does allow time in class to answer hw questions.
Don't take her class.
interesting professor, is dedicated to helping students during office hours so go get help if you need it
just don't. pls take another course, save yourself.
Please call her Elda (You'll find out why). She is a great professor, discusses the topic really well. Statistics is hard in general, she gives tons of practices that she goes through during her lectures. She gives you an opportunity to redo the standards that you missed onto your next test. I brought my D to an A after taking the final.
She is not a bad teacher. She does grade tough on homework. She does a test review the day before the day of the test. The tests questions she uses are mostly from the lectures, homework or the study guide. She goes fast on the lectures but at every problem she states if there are any questions. Tests are by the standards stated in the syllabus.
Elda did a great job at explaining and covering the material. At times she did go through the material fast, but she always had a review day before the tests where she would go over the study guide that she provided to us. The way her test work is if you do not receive a 100% on one test you can make up the parts you missed on the next.
Honestly just do yourself a favor and don't take her class. As a person she is great, however, as a professor she needs to improve on a lot of things. Very cut throat, tough grader. If you have trouble in math like I do, find another professor.
Hard to understand at times, and DOES NOT CARE about your grade!!
She is a tough grader when it comes to the tests. When you approach her to ask her a question about the lab problems she doesn't really help you and doesn't walk you through the problem. She can be very rude.
The worst teacher in terms of grading. There is around 25 points out of 1 that are 65% of your grade. EX: 1/1 this but 25 times in the grade book. Each of these 1 points are 65% of your grade and since she grades terrible its tough to get the points. You have chances to re-do but shes a picky grader. Save yourself and grade take proff. jamoo instea
She was really funny, had me laughing most of the semester. She was an alright professor, no complaints really. Attendance was apart of the grade book but you could skip class occasionally, I just wouldn't recommend it as her lectures are very helpful. Be sure to ask questions if you don't understand something and go to her office hours.
Overall I enjoyed her as a person but as a professor she goes through the lectures quite fast. Your grade can go down really bad by not meeting the standards on tests. She does give you the opportunity to redo the standards in the next test which is a good way to catch up. Had an F for the whole semester and brought it up to a C+ in the end.
Provides all of the paperwork in class for the students. To understand the class do not skip the lectures. You should go up and ask her for help during labs. She has a strong accent so it may be difficult to understand her sometimes. The grading system is either pass or fail but you can redeem yourself as many times before the final.
I did not have a difficult time in this class because I took statistics in high school. Lecture notes are printed and provided by Elda. Lecture notes are posted on Canvas after class. Lecture and lab examples are similar to what is on the exams. She cares about her students and jokes around with us. This class actually made me like statistics.
Speeds through lectures and can be hard to understand as well. Puts down students as well if they do not understand material, and very impatient when students don't understand material.
Recommend taking another professor for this class course, she speeds through lectures, her notes can be unclear sometimes and sometimes not even found in the exam, when asking for help can be rude. Tough grader, no makeup exams or labs.
She's a nice lady and can be funny, but I do not recommend her. She goes through lectures very fast and there were numerous times where I raised my hand during class, and she did not call on me. When she does call on you, her explanations don't really make sense and personally left me more confused. So, take another professor if you can.
I could not stand being in this class. She would constantly make the students feel bad for not remembering material from past classes. She moves very quickly so be prepared to listen. If you want to learn at a much slower pace and actually gather all the information, i suggest you take a different professor.
This was my second time taking a course from Elda and she is a great professor. I really enjoyed the pace she taught at although some people may think it is too fast. She gives lots of opportunities to ask questions and also is available through her office hours 3x a week. Class notes are posted on Canvas after class. Definitely reccommend Elda!
I had initially been skeptical about taking this class because of reviews but I absolutely loved her class. She is very clear on what will be on tests and gives you multiple chances to redeem yourself. She is very sweet and makes class interesting. Advice I'd give is to make sure you attend class and take notes. Would 100% take her class again.
Her class is fairly easy and she does give you a lot of chances to redeem yourself on exams. She likes to joke and try to make the class fun. She doesn't take attendance, however, she does lecture every class day. If u miss a day, it is very likely that you will fall behind on notes. Overall, great professor and would recommend her.
Hardest class I've taken, my only recommendation is not to take any stats with her, wasn't much help if you weren't a favorite of hers. She can be very rude and will make feel embarrassed if you don't understand what she's teaching. there's many other teachers who will care about you & your grade. study guides don't help with tests. pls find better
Was with her for less than a week, and the paperwork and Homework were piling up quickly. It was very stressful just to be there. She would kind of point you out if you didn't understand it. She talked very fast and overall was very fast-paced. So I would recommend choosing another professor.
She always makes class fun to go to, plus she always offers help if your struggling with anything, however if you do take her class, make sure to show up most/everyday because the notes taken in class matter heavily.
Elda is a great professor. I recommend taking her if you want to learn. I enjoyed her class and the material she taught. She always gives opportunities to ask questions, and she helps you understand the material clearly. Make sure to attend class because there is material being covered each time. She is funny and makes it fun to go to.
The rating is super misleading. You can tell she genuinely cares and is ALWAYS asking, "Are we okay?" when teaching. There's an embedded tutor, Emma, whom I recommend entirely. She lets you retake every test until the sixth total. The final is only to retake the items you want. I recommend keeping up with notes; she'll give you credit for it.
She talks a lot about her ex husband. She is a super tough grader and you can't really understand her due to her thick accent. I do not recommend her at all if you have any other options take it. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Do not choose her as a professor. She goes over things way too quickly and doesnt care to explain anything she's doing you just gotta figure it out yourself. The lectures are all about copying what she has down to keep up rather than to actually learn the material. Her make-up questions are harder than the previous exam questions on the same topic.
I would advise that if you did not take AP calc in high school, do not take this class!!! The only kids that are doing well include math majors and kids that took AP math. She is a funny professor, but if you are not a fast leaner and can't pick up new math skills quickly, I would say pick a different professor.
Hard to understand, rushes through lectures with mistakes and no breaks, condescending attitude and often off topic about her ex husband. Exam reviews look nothing like the tests, full of unseen material. Assigns 8 Knewton assignments weekly, horrible teaching style, you're on your own in her class but she blames students. GOOD LUCK U WILL NEED IT.
She jokes a lot about her ex husband and tries to make lighthearted jokes to the class. She does not take attendance but her class is lecture heavy and fast paced so if you miss a class you will fall behind. The hw is harder than the exams. You can make up past exam questions on the new exams for full credit even on the final.
