puts the class to sleep. notes irrelevant to tests. impossible to get an A.
you will not get an A in this class because you wont be able to stay awake.
She's a poor lecturer, and doesn't clearly explain what will be covered on tests.

Made a very interesting subject worse than a proctology exam. Lectures on how interesting her life is but tests on actual philosophical information. However, does offer extra-credit assignments to boost grade.
It's a super boring class!!! Her lectures are so boring. Her lecture notes are hard to understand b/c she goes off subject. Her exams are hard, but she does offer extra credit (but the e.c. is you talking in front of class!)
She is not a good professor. Her lectures WILL put you to sleep. Her notes are all over the place, incoherent. there are only 3 true/false tests for the grade. Her intentions are good, she just doesn't help the students learn.
slept my way to a B. great naps in there.
need a class to sleep through? well professor katz is an alternative to a sleeping pill, her lectures puts the entire class to sleep! you cant stay awake in this class with even 5 shots of espresso in your venti coffee at 12 in the afternoon!
people always fall asleep in this class because she goes on and on in her monotone voice. her lecture notes comprise of one or two worded phrases so it's hard to keep up with her.
she is horrible
does not know how to interest the students. speaks in monotone voice for 3 hours.

She is very boring, but very easy. She gives you full outlines on everything she talks about. She pretty much takes notes for you, types them, and passes them out to class. Don't worry about the verbal notes, you don't need them. Tests are very easy.
getting malled by a pit bull or shot in the face is better then taking this class.
if you want to do well, dont sit in the back-you'll fall asleep. that was my mistake. doesn't make the subj too interesting because she sort of speaks in mono tone. her notes aren't that good so read the material.
This class was great! I was always able to catch up on my sleep and still passed!
shes suckkkksssssss!!!!! dont ever take her unless u plan on kicking ur own ass for taking it!!sooo sooo boooring and she blabs on and on and on
OMG this teacher gots to be kidding me. She is so boring, so monotone and she talks about things that dont matter either about her life or someone elses life. Word of advice her lecture is point less and you just wanna sleep and zone out her voice.
Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy boring have fun sleeping or listening to her families life story. Don't take it.
Boring class with boring teacher. can't do anythign but sleep..i change all my course just because i dnt' want to take Phil again.. very bad and horrible in Philosophy with her. *yuck*

Very very very very boring. Tests are 100 questions and are very minor things out of the readings. I haven't taken philosophy with any other teacher, but i would recommend anybody but her
one of the worst teachers at a great school. Try to move around her anyway you can. She is unclear on everything and thinks everyone knows what shes talking about at all times. Don't try to talk to her, she wont have it. Her tests are somewhat easy.
I've never slept in a class before, her's is the first. As people were leaving toward the end of class, she made a lecture out of it...loosen up! I heard that Phil at OCC was fun, but I guess I took the wrong professor b/c she ruined my experience.
she makes learning phil horrible. shes annoying and add to it she looks and sounds like martha stewart. if u take this class ur bound to fall asleep.
The tests are easy but class is boring and so is she, it's not very interesting.
Boring. Likes to ramble. Gives hard tests. I would stay away from her. I enjoy philosophy, but could not stand learning it from her.
horrible teacher. isn't phil supposed to be based on discussion? well forget that. she rambles on and gives the most pointless tests. ruined my whole take on philosophy. and what's with that belt of hers. annoying lectures. annoying to look at. plain
Very boring and repetitive, only way to do good in class is extra credit. Horrible class!!!
who in the world would give a philosophy test true and false? katz thats who! what is the meaning of life? true or false! wtf. her tests are hard, her lecture is borring... do the extra credit, she offers a lot of it, which makes for an easy-a. i
BORING but easy. not very nice.
she is the rudest most boaring teacher i have ever ment, i went up to her for help at the end of class and she made fun of my for the way i talked. take it from me dont take her class she is horible
Doesn't give breaks on-time. Likes to ramble ALOT. Doesn't provide current life examples and looses her students. Reading easy. Lecture boring. Tests HARD. Oh, and makes students turn-off lights and close the door all the time...rude!
if you want an easy A take this class. it might be boring but its an easy grade
THE most incredibly boring class I have ever taken. Attendance is not really an issue, but still DO NOT take this class...she talks and talks and makes no sense to the students at all.
oh my gosh what a boring class!!!!!!!! I can't even understand her, she makes no sense whatsoever!!!!!!! I couldn't even keep my eyes open in this class. Her tests suck and she is annoying!!!!
I did not learn a godamn thing in this class. No good. She rambles on for two hours about art. Humanities is, in short, the study of how our present times came about...I learn a shiet load of stuff about the Impressionts...Do not take this Professor!!!! She is very knowledgable, but her teaching=(
She rambles and rambles, writes class notes that make absolutely no sense, speaks in monotone (mind you I have an 8 am class, so i feel like i am taking a 3 unit nap time), absolutely one of the most boring people you will come across. Don't take her.
HORRIBLE teacher. She teaches so that ONLY SHE can understand, study guides are VERY unorganized and all she teaches is ART!! HUMANITIES IS MORE THAN JUST ART! Tests are all true and false, the questions dont even make sense, and there is only one chance for EC in this class.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. No homework, really. Just scantron tests. I missed every other class and the classes I did show up to, I slept through.
Mediocre lecturer. Video clips were lousy. Reading assignments were less than informative. Take her class if you like to read stuff in addition to what she assigned so you can actually learn about the stuff she lectured on.
Don't take this class! I am very suspect as to her ability to teach. Her notes are HORRID. She repeats the same notes over and over. She does grade on a curve though, only because nobody understands her test!
Very boring class, but easy to get at least a B in. Don't even have to show up to class to do well. The professor rambles about random and meaningless things that don't even have to do with Humanities. She is very odd!
As was mentioned before, she's fairly boring. But it's also fun just hearing a professor who doesn't dumb her lectures down too much. Very easy class. I never really needed help, but she's very encouraging and supportive. I aced the class and never read the book. Easy tests and lots of extra credit.
Woww! couldnt stay awake a whole lecture. Everytime I went to her class, I felt sleep. She seems like she knows what shes talking about, but the students dont. take her if you want to sleep in the morning. Shes seems nice.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Her lectures make me want to stab my eyes out and spray acid on the sockets. She choses amazing literature which really comes to life when you read it. Then you go into her classroom and she kills it. MURDERS IT! She's so boring it's painful!
She's a very intelligent person but has no idea how to teach. She loves to hear herself speak and is overly pedantic. Do something better with your time.
This professor has some weird mood swings! She was always nice some days and picked on students another day, it was pretty funny. This class isn't exactly an eye opener, but it was pretty easy to get a B and she shows a lot of movies but never finishes them...
Havent learned anything. Her tests are 100 t/f questions that are just confusing. Her lectures seem to go in all different directions as she will go off on different tangents. so boring. watched a couple vids. Smart Lady, Bad Teacher. Don't Take Her.
Horrible teaching skills. Seems smart enough but cant put on anyone else. Tests are never what they are said to be on and yells at students for petty reasons.
Horrible class. Boring teacher. She's very unclear..she just talks and talks and goes off on tangents, and she doesn't give you notes or anything, you have to write things down yourself. The tests pretty much consist of just T/F questions, and they're tricky. She makes the questions unnecessarily difficult to understand, with the way she words them
Shes rude... very rude... but her tests are easy B... and final was oral!
How is she a teacher? she is by far a top secret experiment that the goverment is conducting to find out if absolute bordom exsits and to present it in a way called ELANOR KATZ! she teaches horrible, the test are written to confuse you, her opinion stinks
This is the best class to take if all you want to do is pass and don't care about what your learning. She is extremely boring but if you can sit through the class for a semester you are almost garanteed at least a B. The tests are really easy-all they take is common sense.
one word for this class BORING. she ism much TOO opinionated, goes off of the original subject, monotone voice, and on the tests she makes the questions tricky, confusing esp. with word choice. at all costs, AVOID taking this teacher!
She yells at you if you whisper to anyone around you. You are basically expected to sit there and watch her and not say a word. She goes insane if a cell phone rings. She makes you feel like a child. I thought I was in college not elementary school.

Did anyone understand a damn word that woman ever said?
Very hard... there was nothing to this class. All we did was sit around pretty much. Then had 3 tests and that was it. I think I would rather have homework to possibly balance out a bad test score....
pretty easy class if you listen and don't pay attention to the notes that she writes on the board.... that will confuse the hell outta you
Learned a lot from this class. Exam questions come right out of the reading. If you actually do the work you should do well. May seem confusing at times, but is always willing to clarify.
she is honestly the worst teacher ive had at coast, her lectures are all over the place and she is the most rude teacher in terms of understanding student hardships. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANNA PASS A CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
rambles on and on and on. has a very monatone voice. hard to follow. its hard to stay awake in class
I took the morning lecture hall class. It was kind of boring but I really learned a lot about philosophy between her lectures and the readings. An easy A for a motivated student especially with fun extra credit projects.
i almost want to cry every morning when i have this class. i wish i died in my sleep. real hell would be so much better than this class. dont take it. its ****ing horrible. she is the worst teacher i have ever had. i cant be more clear. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
i hate going to this class. she's a nice lady and everything, but she sucks at teaching. half the class is asleep and the other half is trying to figure out what the hell she's talking about.
If your gonna take humanities 100 dont take it with her. She goes on and on about stuff thats not even important. Her lecture notes cover nothing on the test and its extememly boring class.
Dont take her class if you want to pass.her lectures have NOTHING to do with the class!!!! Smart Lady, Bad teacher.
She is by far one of the worst instructors I have ever had. She tends to digress here and there, and the way she presents her lectures are so unorganized and uninteresting. She seems like an intelligent person but at the same time, it almost seems like she wants to make that known to everyone in the room. If you have a choice, I highly recommend not taking her. I hate going to that class every day.
SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT OCC!!! not recommended!!! seriously... she rambles during the whole lecture. very rude!!!
she is really intelligent! she knows so much about so many things. her lectures are very interesting/informative. she genuinely wants for her students to perform well. she incorporates a lot of discussion/viewing of art/film into this particular class in addition to the reading. i would absolutely take another class from her again.
She is the worst ever! don't take this teacher..extremely boring like hell....don't take her..don't take her unless you can stand long lectures and tons of unrelative information to the subject you are actually learning. Tests are t or f and all are confusing even if you read the book...no way of getting out of it once you are in it...HATE IT!
Her lectures are interesting, & she keeps your attention with all the movie talk, and if you really listen, subject matter is relavant. Her tests are right from the material in the book. The paper was fun, and she was very cool about us presenting our ideas when time was appropriated. I would like to have seen more class discussion of topics.
HER LECTURES ARE INTERESTING IF YOU ACTUALLY LISTEN TO WHAT SHE IS SAYING. SHE SPEAKS SOFTLY, SO IF YOU LET YOURSELF LOSE INTEREST IN LECTURE YOU ARE IN A WHOLE LOT OF TROUBLE. I RECOMMEND A RED BULL OR COFFEE JUST TO BE SAFE. HER TESTS ARE PRETTY EASY IF YOU ACTUALLY READ AND PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURE.
when she talks, she constantly restates her sentences, gives unnessary amounts of examples, and inserts irrelevant information(all in her monotonic voice)to the point where its obvious shes just trying to sound smarter.ull see wut im talking about if u ever take her.the class is easy enuff if u keep up in the reading but prepare to be bored+annoyedx99
so boring i wanted to cut my arm off just so something exciting would happen. she talks and talks and it doesnt make since. doesnt stick to any sort of schedual which is good if you are a procrastinator. do the extra credit and you will do fine, i dont think test scores are that much of the grade. very boring
SOME WOULD CHARACTERIZE HER LECTURES AS PONDEROUS, OTHERS, BRILLIANTLY SCINTILLATING. I'M LEANING MORE TOWARDS THE LATTER CAMP. TRY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLASS DISCUSSIONS AND AVAIL YOURSELF OF ANY EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS THEN YOU'LL DO FINE. BE PREPARED FOR A CHALLENGE.
GOD she is boring! the way she talks jezz it's like the guy from the Clear eyes commercial meets queen VIctoria of England. No emotion in her voice, smart as hell, but talks in old sophisticated english, so much that you doubt she's for real. test are meh, not sinchy yet not hard. had her for spring
oh my goodness! her voice is VERY similar to that one guy in the visine clear eye commercial thing. omg i can't believe i chose her for this class. i didn't really learn anything.. it was absolutely boring for me. I think all we did was sit around and took 3 test and that's it. didn't learn anything!!! don't take her!!!
She is a true academic, so that's probably the reason for the disconnect between she and her students. She is extremely intelligent, but doesn't convey it on a level that junior college students can easily comprehend. Ironically, though, the class is quite easy. Just don't expect to learn much unless you have a real interest in the material.
very helpful
The only thing I like about her class was the reading assignments. Although she assigned a lot of reading, I found the text books very interesting. I learned a lot about art and architecture and I'm tempted to study art history seriously because of this class. Her lectures were boring and unfocused. Notes are unorganized.
She is extremely knowledgable but not very approachable. Her lectures are EXTREMELY boring, unorganized, unfocused. If you really want to learn something, I would not take this class. The only way I sort of did well was because she graded the tests on a curve. You watch some cool movies but that's the highlight of the class. I just wouldn't take he
Had her last year and we didnt have a Final exam which was cool. I seemed to like philosopy and learned a lot without reading. However i did fall asleep a few times in the front row. Might of been boring aspects of philosopy. But it was a great class.
Dr. Katz is an intelligent woman, but she is totally unorganized. The textbooks are pretty useless, she gives many irrelevant lectures, and she doesn't even follow her own syllabus. She was pretty boring with the lectures, and I always fell asleep during class.
Take this taecher only if you like to sleep in calss. Apparently, Dr. Katz knows her schtick but she doesn't deliver the material in a fun way. Her teaching style is get the book read the articles you won't do so bad. Mid terms, I don't know, I took her for intercession @ OCC, hey thats where you go! So just participate & read the material!!!
Everyone says she is absolutely horrible, but let me put it this way and then decide if you want it or not, she is the type of teacher that talks and teaches and knows her stuff about humanities and philosophy the way someone at Berkley or Stanford would know, basically very hardcore and to some not entertaining, if thats not for you, dont take it
I took both her logic and ethics class this winter. She's very intellectuall and knows her stuff, but her lectures can be difficult to follow due to her high vocabulary and language. Read the text, do the XC, and pay attention to her during class. Past her reserved exterior, she is a very kind and caring old lady. I loved her!
Her vocabulary and manner of speaking during lecture are comparable to that of an editorial given on NPR. Obviously very bright and knowledgable in subjects taught, but likely to be too difficult for the average population to understand and follow. Does not invite open discussion. Lecture/notes. Many low scores rec'd by students in this class.
Soooo boring. Will give you a short break though but will talk non-stop. Does not make class fun or interesting. Not even any pre-set lecture's to put on overhead. Independent studying for test. Didn't show up twice for a once a week class! Was very hard tests but offered extra credit at the end which is mandatory for the A!!
Definately get on her good side. You will know by the 2nd week of class who she favors. She'll cut you off in mid thought while you're speaking if she doesn't like you. If I wanted to take a literature class I would've taken that, not humanities. Expected us to do essays and a report on romanticism & realism, yet hardly discussed those topics.
shes a weirdo....she won't help you understand anything...when you ask her a question you get 10times confused then you were before. her classs is pure boring.so hard to listen to her especially since you dont know what shes talking about. i dont recommened you take this class.shes kinda nice but hardddd and way too much notes that are repetitive!
Took her honors humanities class over the summer. It is amazing how Dr. Katz can talk for 4 hours straight. Overall I didn't learn anything new but she was fair when it came to grading. If you are trying to learn, avoid this teacher. She loves to hear herself talk.
she seems to know her material but isn't very good at actually teaching it. It gets boring because she's pretty mono tone sometimes. You gotta sit towards the front if you wanna stay awake! =P
She is completley boring but is really nice. She does give alot of lectures not related to anything in particular at all.
so boring! she doesnt shut up n tends 2 get off topic! pretty easy class tho as long as u dont have any opinions different from hers. 2 essays you turn in 4midterm n mc test thats SUPER EASY! buy the books, theyre great! the final is just a group/indiv. presentation. up 2 u! not bad class, but boring! buy coffee during the breaks ull need 2 b awake
TERRIBLE! Talks about her own feeble life constantly. I've heard people say they hate her as they pass my seat.
shes such a bad teacher! shes SOOOO BORING. do NOT take her. i hate philosophy because of her.
All you Philo Major better avoid this class because your not going anywhere with her stuff. If you look up BORING in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of her.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!....whatever you do dont take this class is just a waste of time. I mean, she keeps repeating the fact that she has 3 degrees in Philosophy. For the mid-term she gave us a study guide and when it came to taking the test, it was true and false but it was hard because she gave us the wrong chapters and questions to study!!!!!
Made me hate philosophy. Incredibly boring. It sounds like an audible monotone dictionary that spits out random words. She wastes a lot of time talking about people coming in on time and leaving early. Do the assigned reading the night before the exam and you'll be fine.
Professor Katz is an extremely well-spoken woman who really cares about her students succeeding in her class. She gives you exactly what's going to be on the exams with he examples during lecture.
She is incredibly boring and she's very impatient when she is approached by students. With all that said, her exams are quite easy.
she talks for the whole entire time about what we had to read for homework, so i was basically wasting my time. if she wasnt tallking, she showed of the movie. she never really taught us anything. i would not recommend.
in order to understand the concepts, you actually have to read the required readings thoroughly. she may be boring, but she's very intelligent. if you listen to her clear enough, you'll find out that she repeats most of what she says especially stuff that will be on the test. however she's a hard grader. i was 2 points away from an A :(
I took her for phil.100 and 150....i agree she's boring, her test seuck. but she gives out so many extra credit opportunities that it makes it hard to fail her class. I reccomed this class to people like me who didnt care for the material and just wanted a decent/good grade. do the extra credit! and youll be fine. dont ask her questions shes werid
Definitely not the class I thought I was signing up for. Her voice is a little monotonous. I was extremely confused at times and her notes were long and complicated. I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone.
If you want to learn about ethics don't take the class with this teacher.
do the extra credit. it could really bump a B to an A if you're really close.
WORST TEACHER EVER! I advise you not to take her. She's a bore and basically she's like a dictator for the class. Always yelling at people.
WORST TEACHER EVER! JUST LIKE EVERYONE SAYS SHE'S A BORE AND SHE GIVES YOU A GRADE INSTEAD OF WHAT YOU DESERVE. DON'T TAKE HER!
God she was horrible! She'd talk on and on about philosophy and david hume in a humanities class! i still dont even know what humanities is supposed to be about! ok literature but every time we tried to start an interesting discussion about it shed snap at us, and this is in honors! easy but at what cost to your sanity? painfully horrible!
I took Ethics with her over Winter Break and she is waaay boring. But she's nice and willing to help if you have questions. She's way into what she's teaching so she seems to mumble to herself but it's a pretty straightforward class. I'm in her class again for Humanities and hopefully it's just as easy.
Ignore the majority of these comments which are at worst unintelligible, at best ignorant. DON'T LET THEM DISCOURAGE YOU FROM TAKING HER COURSES. Katz is incredible for tolerating the juvenile bickering about grades & difficulty and continuing to teach passionately. Those who warn against her are of the same spirit as those who condemned Socrates.
She's disorganized, longwinded, and does not give clear indications of class expectations or objectives. She uses big words but not big ideas, treating the classroom as a soapbox. Her 15-page typed "summary" of a 60-page play had no analytical depth (just knowledge regurgitation). If your goal is to learn, her "teaching" is actually a detriment.
I was looking forward to taking ethics and interacting with other students with regards to their ethical views. This class is a nightmere. Freezing classroom, drawn out lectures, that leave you with 7-9 pages of notes each day and her opinions and personal history. She goes off subject easily. Nice woman, but this class is god awful..........
WORST TEACHER EVER. SHE JUST KEEPS RANTING ON AND ON. If you ask her to repeat something she will give you a hard time about it. She thinks low of her students.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. If you want a class to take a nap, ditch, listen to her talk and talk and talk, with two tests that make up your grade then this is the class for you.
she knows a lot about philosophy and humanity, and she also tries to give a lot of informations as possible. Her lecture, however, is boring, so you will probably fall asleep in the class. She's not really helpful to her students, but a nice person. I took an honors class & it wasn't that hard since she was a pretty fair grader :)
i got the only A in the class of like 120 students..and it was very difficult and she isnt a very fair teacher. i dont recommend it
I took intro to philosophy with her and, while not the most exciting teacher, she was pretty okay. She didn't care if we fell asleep in class, as long as we passed it. She rambled on occasion but it was cool because she was just very passionate about her field. If you have a short attention span, skip her. If you're not 11 years old, she's cool.
HIDEOUSLY BORING!!!Decent human being, decent personality if you were to connect with her outside...but very boring lectures on chapters straight from the book. Teach online if you are going to lecture straight from the book. Great if you can stand lecture only courses with no interaction whatsoever..
She is accademic and mnemonic, tests are scantron, true or false!
This class is a complete waste of time. If you want to learn about all of her friends personal lives and what Katz's opinions are, you'll take her class. she is disorganized & all the material is from 20 years ago. this is a terrible class.
prof is very boring, dont take her
Boring! I dread going to her lectures. I am not the type of person to fall asleep in class but she just sucks the fun out of everything. Only good thing is that she curves the test like really low which was a really sincere and unexpected thing of her to do.
Boring lectures, lots of notes she doesnt use in exams, rambles about personal experiences you dont want to hear about, mid-term and final exams are only points available (100 ea.) + 1 EC report (15), exams near impossible to study for, degrades students for asking honest questions if she thinks she's (1)repeating herself or (2)thinks its stupid.
Extremely boring! I drank energy drinks before her classes everyday and could not stay awake. She goes off on irrelevant tangents that waste lots of time. The class was behind for whole semester. There were numerous questions on the tests that had not been covered in her lectures or study guides. Avoid all costs!

If you have an interest in this subject, find another teacher. Katz is long-winded, bland, and afraid to have her own opinion. The class is structured terribly and she is was never on track with her own schedule. I love philosophy but I deeply regret taking her class.
She is really nice but it's almost impossible to get an A. She didn't even go over whole sections that were on the test. The only grades in the class are the tests!!
I wish I could give her a better rating because she is really nice and I enjoyed the few conversations I had with her. Unfortunately she just isn't a good teacher. The only grades she gives in the class are the tests which she doesn't provide study guides for, doesn't cover all the information for, and a lot of it isn't in the textbook. She rushes through the notes so there's not much chance of passing even if you never miss a class. One person got an A in the entire class of 150+ students!
this teacher thinks everyone look the same, i always come to class early and these 2 asain guys came in late everyday. at the end of the class she told me "dont ever come back if you come in late again". i was like wtf..? and worst teacher ever, i petition she didnt tell me what book to get or give me syllabus. very boring and super monotone
Prepare for powerpoint & overhead projection. Nothing in class but copying her pages. No class interaction @ all! She mostly talks about hollywood actors, producers & who won an oscar for what. I'm paying for this class?! Read the book & ignore her ramblings.
VVV LOL was it the 1245 class or whatever, i remember she DOES think everyone look the same. a lot of people got a D or F in the class. When she get angry she give everyone a attutide
Worst teacher I've ever had. She is so boring and doesn't know how to do power points. She has run-on sentences instead of bullets. The material is confusing and it is all art history. She doesn't explain what will be on the tests. The study guide was 104 questions and each question had about 3 questions. She is monotone and boring. STEER CLEAR
DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR!!!! The ONLY reason she is still there is that she is TENURE!! (And that is pretty much her attitude towards the class. Horrible. If your majoring visual art than it might be for you if you want to learn about French Impressionism and other French art. She briefly mentions the meaning of humanities and focuses mainly on
Damn I agree with all your comments about her especially just using the book that is your best bet i studied her guide and did not help at all i guess the upside of her class is she had pretty girls in her class
Worst teacher I have ever taken.. bad attitude and drag on. Doesn't really stay on the topic and class are very boring. Don't take her no matter what
She does not teach this as Humanities, it is an Art History class. All we studied was impressionism and renaissance art. Her lectures are power point slides and very hard to pay attention to. Her tests consist of nothing that she goes over in the notes or that is on the study guide. All true or false trick questions which are opinionated.
She seems like a really nice lady and I'd like to give her a better rating but, I can't! Goes off on tangents and can't really follow how she's trying to relate to what the real topic was. Just awful. DO NOT RECOMMEND! EVEN IF IT'S A LAST RESORT! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Oh my god!!! This is the only class I have ever fallen asleep in. If at all possible, take ANY other teacher. And it's sad, because she's a very nice person.
Not a good teacher at ALL. only good thing she does is curve test grades. but the only grade you get in the class is based on 3 tests. VERY boring and gets off topic a lot. plus all you learn about is art and architecture
Katz is a very boring teacher. I fell asleep almost every class. The grade is based on 3 curved tests which isnt that bad but you either have to read the book or be able to write fast enough to take notes. She insists that you dont need the notes but my tests were based on the notes. interesting subject but a boring teacher.
I thought I was going to fail or get a D because I had 60's on my tests...but with her curve, I got a B. I would say if you failed her class, then you really should give up college because I can't see how one could fail, I didn't even study really! Class is boring, fell asleep all the time. Boring movies, ridiculous tests, hated this class. Easy B/
repeats herslf constantly
NEVER in my yrs of college have I had a teacher who was so unbelievably disrespectful to her students. She's easily agitated by ANY questions, she gets annoyed when you ask for her to slow down with notes, & her remarks toward students are extremely condescending! She mumbles things under her breath as ppl talk & extends a pretentious smile too..
Though her class covers ethics, mutual respect, and cooperation/tolerance, ironically she is one of the most agitated and unhappy teachers I've had. Not a very nice lady... I asked her a question about taking notes and she nearly bit my head off. Yes, but with a smile, as if she enjoyed it. OUCH! I was very disappointed.
I cannot believe this lady. Don't be fooled by her smile. She is a horrible teacher! I am an A student and I feel as though I'm putting more effort in the class than she is. Disorganized and has an attitude. Don't take. BTW, I have never rated a professor badly, she is the first! Just don't, its not worth it.
class is sooo easy u just go to class listen to her boring lecture. grade is based on 3 things just test, presentation, and short essay. esay grader not hard at all just sleep in class and u will get ..A
Worst Professor ever. She can not stay on track to save her life. All she knows how to do is ramble on in fact even her notes ramble one. Oh and wait till you take her test because guess what she rambles on in the test as well. It would be amazing if it wasn't so sad. DO NOT TAKE. Wait for someone else no matter what.
Kind of felt like a waste of 3 hours a week going to this class but it's one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. As long as you comment every so often in her class, she will like you. There is no real need to read the books she assigns- sparknotes.
This teacher can't help but spread the light on her "own" political view while bashing her "opposition"... she shouldn't be teaching to idiots who believe everything she says cause it sounds good...... I mean jesus if a teacher is going to Quote television you know something is wrong
Beautiful lady. Extremely smart and a world of experience. Excellent prof - kind, very helpful, enjoys seeing students succeed. So NOT boring if you pay attention. Many unfair, mean and untruthful things said here. She's magnificent! If you want to learn, take this class. If not, sleep somewhere else.

Many unfair, mean and untruthful things said here. She's magnificent! If you want to learn, take this class. If not, sleep in a different classroom ~ somewhere else.
First bad rating towards a teacher ever. Her PowerPoint outdated notes& rushes through the notes too fast-ignores students or shouts at them, content mostly irrelevant to the nature of the class-its biased French arthistory NOT humanities. Final is 50% questions about the movie. Tests are biased based on her beliefs.Passed due to love of Frenchart
Has nothing to do with humanities. She literally teaches french art and can't keep one thought for more than 10 seconds. Do not take this class, absolutely horrendous.
I don't know how this teacher still has this job. She writes her lectures all in caps lock, they are inconsistent and incoherent, and she rambles on about irrelevant stuff. Study guides are alright for reviewing, but tests are somewhat hard. Philosophy is fun, but this teacher ruins it. Although it was nice that she wasn't biased. One aid is a jerk
When I signed up for the class I didn't realize I was enrolling in Art History. This is the most boring class I have every attended. It only focuses on the art aspect of humanities, totally bypassing everything else. If I could redo registration I couldn't even imagine signing up for the class. Do yourself a favor and register with another teacher.
If you don't take notes, you will be in trouble. The only grades are the midterm and final - minimal extra credit. Don't try to make sense of her lectures in class. Wait to look at your notes after. She isn't mean but can get annoyed easily. She doesn't mind people asking questions and participating. Don't leave early..
I WAS interested in philosophy, then I got her. lectures are useless, dull, and good for people like me with insomnia, because they give me a chance 2 b able to fall asleep. Completely destroyed any interest in philosophy I previously had because she is soo boring. she spends 2/3s of the class talking about things not related to the material!UGH!
okayy here i go: eleanor katz's "teaching" is a #$*& joke. this is the most HORRIFIC nightmare of a confusion you could ever dream of. eleanor might be a nice person with good intentions, but she is literally the biggest joke of a teacher in the universe. what are her lectures?!!? one ppt slide consists of one sentance with random bullet points. OM
Most boring teacher. Do not take this teacher! Grade was originally based on 3 tests, but she changed it to 2. Minimal Ex Cred. Notes are inconsistent. Tests are not too difficult. MONOTONE. Talks about the syllabus for like 30 min each class. Nags at/about tardies. I was interested in Phil before I took this class.
Easiest class ever OMG only reason I didn't get an A was probably because I was always absent her tests are easy I don't know what kind of teacher other ppl r looking for but I got a good grade and learned enough
Easiest class ever OMG only reason I didn't get an A was probably because I was always absent her tests are easy I don't know what kind of teacher other ppl r looking for but I got a good grade and learned enough
Eleanor is a pathetic excuse for a college professor. The class is less like a class and more like a funeral. Its like watching paint dry, useless. Her discussions always lead to her talking about her life and what she is interested in, which is, not important. I would not recommend this class unless you like to learn about absolutely nothing.
Katz is a horrible teacher. Avoid at all costs! I'm an A student and I found this class difficult due to Eleanor's inability to teach. She's a great person...but a boring teacher. I came out of the class knowing nothing about Philosophy. I would not recommended or ever take this professor ever again. Don't waste your time.
the worst professor ever. She teaches nothing but tests are hard. I don't know why someone like her can be a college professor She doesn't care about her students. you better not take her class, seriously
Katz is a horrible teacher and probably a horrible person. I have absolutely nothing good to say about her. Overall, her tests aren't hard if you do the reading, but you have no idea how you'll do on them until you take them. Do not ever take any of her classes. She can't teach to save her life.
She is a softspoken old lady that really knows and masters her material. However, her only, and BIGGEST, problem is that she does not comprehend the meaning of the word instructor.. she thinks its throwing up 20 pages of notes on the projector per lecture, incomprehensible exams and condescending attitude. AVOID E. KATZ if u value ur future!!
Let me tell you three things: 1. You will see many students drop at the beginning of the semester. 2. You will regard her lecture as wasting of your/her/everybody's time because THERE IS NO POINT. 3. When you got your grade --which is the average of only 2 exams-- you will think those ppl who dropped earlier made the best decision in their lives.
Learned absolutely nothing. She always contradicted herself. 2 tests because she spent the majority of the semester &classes complaining about how we were "rude &always extremely late, which was a big distraction." Definitely do the reading because they somewhat help. She also spent a lot of time telling us about her ex-bf's &frat parties... Weird.
This was not a class, it was the incoherent ramblings of a french art enthusiast.
This is the hardest easy class I've ever taken. Nice professor and very passionate with her subject, but a bit disorganized. There's a study guide to study from for each exam...very helpful.
omg. shes so unorganize about her notes which leads to not understanding what shes trying to tell us. someone tell me how to study for her exams! PLEASE!
I made the terrible mistake of being in not one, but two of this lady's classes in a row. She is useless as a teacher, her lectures consist of liberal rants and her complaining about people walking in late. This is interrupted occasionally by her reading off her incomprehensible notes. ALL CAPS and sentences interrupted by bullet points. STAY AWAY
Lighten up, lady.
I have no idea how to study for this! The study guide she gives is mostly from her damn lectures :[ I haven't been to lectures thinking it would just be from the textbook like all my other classes but it is not! AHHHHH!
Absolutely intolerable. All she does is ramble about French Art and her own personal interests. She skims through her notes and gets agitated if you try to ask a question. This is a very easy class considering that my friend got a 54% on his exams and still passed with a B, but if you actually want to learn anything, don't waste your time enrolling
Ok so this professor is absolutely horrible! I took her a while ago & she was a dread. None stop lecturing in her simple montone voice. Only 3 assignments which she does not mention in syllables if you are trying to pass DO NOT TAKE HER! SHE IS ABSOLUTELY A TERRIBLE TEACHER. I really cannot believe she is still working.
Lots of issues like "I can't get the computer to work" "Can't deal with roll call" "KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED!" + irrelevant celebrity obsession ("Did you watch the academy awards/royal wedding?") and does not offer stimulating lectures or discussions. Grades based on 2 tests, 0 assignments. Lazy, pedantic, control freak of a dispassionate instructor.
she is really boring ,,, she teaches upon slide in power point,,, too fast to take notes,,boring class 4ever,,
Professor Katz is exceptionally knowledgeable - not just in Philosophy or Religious Studies - but in History as well. She is not a community college level professor. She is a university level professor. I enjoyed the class even though it was rushed in 4 weeks. Her muliple choice/true-false exams are not easy. Would take her again.
Everyone is being overly harsh. This class is so easy and Katz is a fine teacher. She's so knowledgable on the topic and has a lot to share if people would ACTUALLY LISTEN. Read the book and go to class and you'll pass. *Netflix A Passage to India rather than showing up to watch it in class-you'll get more from the movie*
Her lectures are pretty off topic&when she does go over notes, she moves through lectures way too fast for a person to even finish taking their notes.petpeeve:late students.advice-use a comp/share notes.best way to pass:study notes, refer to book briefly,&pay att. to what she tells you is on the test.if knowledge is what you seek don't take the class
She is extremely boring, never wanted to show up to class and is monotone. everyone seems to sleep in her class.
Honestly, I think these reviews are really harsh. Yeah; she's definitely one of the more monotonous speakers in my first semester at OCC, but in all honesty, AS LONG AS YOU JUST COPY DOWN THE NOTES IN CLASS, YOU CAN EASILY GET A "B". I haven't even read any of the dialogues she's assigned because she's reviewed them in class. I currently have an 85
She is a very nice and honest woman however her lectures are such a bore. Her power points are terrible. They don't make any sense, pretty much one sentence with bullets randomly in the middle to for bullet points. Very weird. Her tests are incredibly hard. Do all the extra credit she offers because that is what will help you in the end.
So horrifically boring. Her powerpoints are useless. Although you can tell she genuinely loves the topic shes horrible at teaching. Her tests are true/false format but she gives a hefty curve on midterm and final. She's very anal about being late and she points it out like you're a 3rd grader. Avoid this teacher at ALL COSTS.
It's almost straight lecture from PowerPoint in the dark. Good luck taking notes since the PowerPoint is disorganized. You'll do better if you do all the reading, especially since lecture is just the text reformatted. The only grades were a midterm and final. Both are difficult.
She is probably the WORST teacher I have ever had. Her lectures are disorganized, random and she rants about things completely off topic. She is mean and complains about people being late and the class being behind, when it's her fault. Good luck failing.
I took this class my first semester and oh. my. gosh. She is terrible. She is monotone, her lessons are inconsistent, she rambles on and on, literally talks about the syllabus forever each class. The grades are based on her exams only, which are not too difficult if you read the book and understand her horrible lectures. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Her lectures were boring. She basically read off of the powerpoints and was often times off topic. She breezed through the slides way too quickly. Book wasn't nessesary. Didn't study or even open the book but somehow managed to get a B in her class. Would not recommend.
Nice person who likes philosophy but rambles mindlessly during lectures. Tests are awkwardly written & answers are often strangely framed. Course ass't Dutro is horrible. 1/2 class failed final (even the A&B students). Dutro probably messed up but blamed students for filling in the wrong test form suspiciously (didn't happen for 1st 3 exams).
The lectures are boring & her tests are weird. Mostly true-false. However, she's easy & offers a nice curve. Just read the Impressionism textbook (first 4 chapters) and you should be fine for the two midterm exams. Rent the film "A Passage to India" and watch it a couple of times & you'll be set for the Final. I recorded her lectures which helped.
Go to class, but you'll probably get more out of reading the book. I read each chapter twice through and ended up getting a 75 and an 86 on the two midterm exams. Grades on a curve. Mostly teaches French Impressionism. Tests are mainly true-false and based on her opinions, so listen to the lectures.
Her lectures are a bit boring but what philosophy lecture isn't? She is nice and willing to help you if you seek it. The exams are on the difficult side however, if you review the lecture notes, passing should not be a problem! Take down notes, pass the class!
She clearly doesn't know how to use the power points. Her notes are very unorganized and her test study guides don't match the notes. She rages when people are late.
Avoid this professor at all costs! I made the mistake of reading all of these bad reviews and taking the class anyway because it fit into my schedule. I have always been a great student, this is my first B in college and I am extremely disappointed. The class consisted of one 350 slide powerpoint and her monotonous voice. I learned nothing!
This person is a classroom occupant, not a professor. She yammers on incoherently about french art, and is vicious to anyone who asks a question, goes to the bathroom, or just generally exists around her. I saw her yell at a deaf girl for trying to get something out of her back pack in the middle of class. It is an easy A, but not worth the hassle.
Dr Katz remains one of the best professors I have ever had. I took a philosophy course with her many years ago (Epistemology), and she introduced me to Kant, etc. Difficult subject, but she helped me understand. She is a fine scholar and excellent teacher—if you apply yourself! She doesn't suffer fools gladly.
WOW! I took this professor last semester and still hear her monotone, inconsistent, boring lectures haunting my dreams. Her notes are bad- like really bad! They make no sense and the random bullets drove me crazy. She also is super nice to those who shut up (me) but to anyone with a question prepare for her to basically insinuate you are an idiot.
Absolute WORST teacher I have experienced at OCC. Lectures are incomprehensible, and she always rambles on about useless information. I learned nothing taking this class. It is almost impossible to get an A without doing the extra credit. Tests made no sense, but at least they were curved. Avoid at all costs, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Horrible.barely got a B & it was only b/c i did the xtra credit.I never studied so hard 4 a class,& got such bad results. Ppt's R ridiculous, &she goes way 2 fast on them.Exams r xtrmly difficult. She rambles in lecture, & goes over the class time, then blames it on students that were late 2 class even tho lecture started on time.DO NOT TAKE HER!
She rambles on and on, and her powerpoints move way to quick. The notes are confusing. She once ignored a student with her hand up for ten minutes, until the student stood up with her arm raised. She uses examples that dont make sense. I still dont know what philosophy is about. the book does help a little bit. i wouldnt take her again.
I just dont even know what to say.. I ignored all the comments about her thinking how bad could it really be? Well its bad. I hate art had no idea it was all about french art history .... Everyday its the most boring lecture ever.. With that said... DO NOT TAKE UNLESS U LOVE ART
Hmm all this comment is harsh. she does mumble a lot but what she put on the powerpoint is on the test and if you read the book will help you on the test. her class does require you to study outside of class like any other classes and follow her syallbus. her test are true and false, so is 50/50 if you attend class you should at least get 70%.
I got 88% in overall. She is not helpful. Study guides aren't related to tests and notes are unable to copy because she skips them randomly. I took the test based on textbook and common knowledge. She keeps on talk about subject not related materials. She is kind of professor that plants the perception of "philosophy is hard and boring" to people
Her class really isn't that difficult, and the powerpoints are really only a slight annoyance. The study guides are relevant even if her lectures are rather boring. She does ramble, but if you write the notes she gives you're set for an A. She doesn't mind answering questions during/after class- she's very nice. The text definitely isn't necessary.
falling asleep in this class. I have no motivation to attend. I am not sure what this class is about. WORST CLASS EVER
NOT recommended. Endless rambling about movies & actors & other BS. Hardly read a thing and did pretty well. Powerpoint presentations suck; kept it on a useless slide for 20 min & quick on important ones. Hardly philosophy. More like Katz reviews life. Left knowing little. Took 0 notes, got an A. Drew the whole semester; got better at art. Success?
I have Katz right now at 8am and it's hard to stay awake since it's so early, but I like her. She doesn't give home work except to read. If you listen to her boring lectures and copy the power point down you don't have to read. Its a pretty easy class, she only grades on the tests and we only have/ had 3 to take. And the book isn't necessary.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Do not recommend taking this class. EXTREMELY boring, very unclear and the study guides don't even match whats on the test. Kinda of easy i ended up with a B and i really didn't try
Class is extremely easy if you want a B, an A requires effort. Her syllabus makes her seem strict on attendance, but she actually doesn't care: I was 40 minutes late to all her classes excluding 2. Her tests are extremely easy(No studying/reading required, easy 85+) and if you're behind, just do the extra credit. You won't learn much, but free A.
She rambles during lecture and doesn't teach anything. Tests are brutal. you can't even use common sense to figure them out. DO NOT TAKE.
She rambles and is constantly repeating herself. Boring lectures and confusing powerpoints. Listen instead of copying notes down-not enough time to write. Three tests, each are As if you do the reading and stay engaged in class. Get books! DO EXTRA CREDIT. Gave 15 points to everyone who did it and helped if you needed a few extra points for a grade
The text book she assigns is for someone who actually likes art one who's an enthusiast all this extra information makes it hard to find what actually is important. I am really disappointed i think if she was a better teacher and had assigned an educational/fact type book then this would have been a pleasant class
She is a terrible teacher!! I WORKED MY ASS OFF AND GOT AN 89, but she didn't even curve the final grade so I got a B. Do not take her at all costs!!!!She doesn't make any sense and rambles about her life
The class was easy. Use common sense when thinking about the answers. Do the extra credit. No matter what don't leave anything to chance. Do the extra credit.
I had her for RLST120 and HUM100H, I got an A in both. She curves her tests and they're all True or False. She doesn't post her notes up online, but her powerpoint slides in class are very thorough and specific to what she asks on the test. T/F questions are kinda trippy, so you have to know the text well enough. Just read, and you'll be fine.
She rambles on subjects that were once related to the class, but slowly turn into an outrageous 15 minute story. Not a great teacher.
Wow, what to say. Lectures are boring. It is hard to retain any information. PowerPoints are incoherent & scrambled. I used to enjoy philosophy but this class makes it hard to feel engaged because of how much she rambles. She once went off on a tangent for an hour before moving to the next slide. Avoid if you don't want to pass out in class.
She gave us a really really long study guide with all the question ( about 110 ) that some are not in the textbook. You have to listen to every thing that she says in class + reading the textbook ... so that you can answer her questions ... Exhausted!!!
horribly boring I would sleep through her monotone rambling every class. textbooks have nothing to do with the test questions. Be ready to google all of your study guide questions. I would not recommend this professor to anyone
She is a nice lady with good intentions. She just lectures by powerpoint the entire time. If you just pay attention in class and take minimal notes and dont do the readings you can get an easy B. If you do the readings and take good notes and do the easy extra credit you will get an A for sure.
if you need a goofy hip teacher steer clear. She is very orthodox. She doesnt understand power point, her bullet points are sentences. Her study guide is extremely long and honestly just a guide through the text!! dont waste your time on it her test is 98% tf and she uses a huge curve. pay attention to all she says. text is mandatory
Easy class, make sure to get your reading in. There's an extra credit. Huge curve. Easy testing, mostly true or false questions.
She has good intentions and is very old school, however she couldn't even get through all of the course matter. We had two tests the entire semester and that is all that made up our grade. 2 tests. Nothing else. She blames it on kids being late for the reason she couldn't lecture when really she can't get thorough the lecture because she rants.
She is a good person horrible teacher. She is gentle and kind, but rambles so insanely on subjects that have nothing to do with the learning of philosophy. I will ace this course but will need to take again. I feel morally obligated to warn people. You will not learn a thing. Do not take whether you are serious about cred. or philosophy.
Sweet person but a not so good professor. Lectures are all on PowerPoint and are ridiculously boring and unorganized. She tends to ramble on for what feels like forever and eventually will put you to sleep. Honestly had no motivation to attend this class because I didn't feel like I learned anything. Tests are pretty easy though and mostly TF.
Katz is a beautiful person who has been around the world and has a great passion for many things, however power point is not one of them. Her lectures are long but it's a lecture class. Three tests(mostly truefalse), major curve 85% is an A, READ YOUR BOOK or go to class but you don't have to do both, to get an A. Do the extra credit easy pts.
BIG MISTAKE!! She was so sweet but learned absolutely nothing. i big waste of my time and money. Your whole grade just depends on two test sounds great right?? BUT she gives you nothing, a study guide that looks like its in a different language. Don't Take Her!! Skip This Class!
Worst teacher I've had at OCC. Her lectures are long, boring, & go off topic a lot. Says her power points were professionally made but they're disorganized & hard to read. She yelled at students for asking the same question twice and blamed lateness for not finishing the material. Acts like we all have a background in the class when it's an intro.
Lectures seem to go on forever and she gets side tracked A LOT. Were supposed to have 3 tests but she didn't get to all the material because she gets side tracked a lot so our grade depended on two 100 true or false question tests and a easy extra credit opportunity. If you go to class and relatively pay attention you'll get a B.
I really loved her class. You learn a lot during the lectures so make notes, but try to focus more on what she is saying. She has a reading list, but she doesn't require the full amount of reading so DO THE READING & go to class so you can participate. She does discussions on them & it shows you're keeping up. She is so nice so just ask for help.
Lectures are long and boring. Gets off topic a lot and tends to ramble about nonsense. She cannot pronounce french words correctly when learning about french artwork. Powerpoints are disorganized and she goes through slides too quickly to take notes. Reading is necessary and also is attendance.
LOTS TO LEARN! Very intellectually rewarding professor. Highly intelligent. Class are very intriguing. I learned so much philosophy from her. Class is only boring to students who aren t interested. You can easily pass if you study a bit. It isnt hard to pass at all. I love the book, and the reading she assigns. TAKE THE CLASS!
Class seems interesting.
A lot of the reviews on here seem to dislike Professor Katz's relatively old-fashioned style of teaching. Yes, it's lecture. Yes, it can be dry. But if you have any interest in the subject matter, her enthusiasm is contagious. Professor Katz absolutely loves what she teaches, and it's hard to deny that. Her exams are easy, and she wants to help.
Unorganized has heck. As stated in the syllabus, there were suppose to be five tests during the semester. MY CLASS ONLY HAD TWO! She is incredibly boring. I registered for this class just before the semester started and it was no wonder why there was tons of free space. Philosophy is great but this professor gets no credit for teaching me.
Don't take this class unless you're majoring in philosophy. Her notes are unorganized and she rambles about irrelevant examples during her lectures. Grading consisted of two tests only and it took about two months to even do the second exam. Don't waste your time and save yourself a grade and take something else.
super sweet lady but her lectures were incredibly long and incredibly boring. She often rambles on about things that are irrelevant to her lectures. If you take her Philosophy 100 class make sure you take good notes and really pay attention
good class, but not real easy, more like medium. she is very nice and helpful. take good notes and skim readings. go to her office if you are confused.
Took Contemporary Philosophy with her. Don't take this class unless you are a Phil major and have a personal interest in Philosophy. Too difficult for a non-major. Attendance is a must. She is clearly brilliant and talks a lot, so good note taking is a must. Really enjoyed the class. Stretched my brain quite a bit.
This class seems to be a hard class with a bad teacher, but it's the total opposite. Katz lectures and goes off topic sometimes but you'll definitely pass her class if you stick with it. 3 tests (mostly T/F) and one extra credit. Do the readings and you'll get an A
Took her class years and years ago, but I realized I want to help other students who might take her class with this advise: dont. Her class made me realize using Ratemyprofessors is necessary for selecting classes if you can help it. The class consisted of sitting in place with no to very VERY little class involvement listening to her ramble on.
I had her class 40 years ago, she was outstanding. Verbally perspicacious, terrific lectures and unintentionally humorous when commenting on some unfortunate soul.
