I took the honors writing version of this course and it was great. Elle cares about students and is always willing to help outside of class. I learned a lot- class was half lecture, half discussion. Discussions were interesting even though there was a lot of reading. Paper topics were really interesting too. Take a class with her!
very easy teacher very easy class... only a few assignments and not overly difficult to pass. class absences counted against grade though.
Elle is great! She makes the material very interesting and she is extremely knowledgeable. One class per week is dedicated to discussions of an article and the rest is lecture. Tests are easy if you know the material.
She really doesn't expect anything of you but to do the readings and share your thoughts. Her lectures are engaging.
Interesting class. Weekly writings on a specific anthro topic, the more you write, the more pages she takes off your final research paper. 1 group presentation, we had 2 take home exams (easy As) Book not necessary. Very helpful with writing the essay. Make the corrections she suggests on your draft and you'll get an A
Lectures were long and boring but she would go over the exact same thing that was on the slides which were posted online so class attendance did not matter. As long as you go to discussion and do the thought questions weekly, it is an easy A. Never attended lectures and passed.
She is a great professor and really wants everyone to do well. The material is boring, but she makes class fun. I really enjoyed this class and it's an easy A.
Only went to one lecture the entire semester and still managed an A. Study the chapters in the book on your own and you'll do fine. You should go to every discussion as the weekly homework is due and participation in discussion counts towards your grades. Easy A with minimal work.
She's fantastic. Never ever need to show up to lecture, just go to Friday discussion. Even if she emails you to come to class for a guest speaker, still don't show up because ALL the lecture slides are online and she seldom deviated from the slides. Midterm and Final are incredibly easy. Comes in clutch for an easy A.
Lets just say 50% of your grade is online homework which are pass or fails, 25% of your grade is a presentation you do in discussion that is easy, and the other 25% is the average of your midterm and final which are open note/google open textbook exams. Only go to class cause you can get extra credit.
easy class, go to discussion, do your online and homework and you will get an A. tests for this semester at least were online and take home. Pretty much do your work for an A.
Never has a discussion section meant so much to my grade then for this class. This class is a huge waste of time. There were quizlets for most of her exam questions which were online. I'm just salty because I did almost none of the work, went to 3 lectures, rarely went to discussion and got a C- in a class that really is an easy A.
One of the most inspirational professors I've had. Her lectures are amazing and she reminds me of those Ted Talkers. If this is your area of interest, the stuff she teaches is actually very very meaningful. I took the W course with her and she was very helpful with everything and responds to emails very fast
Easy class. You only have to go to the discussion for attendance. And you need to do a presentation in the semester and do the thought questions every week. My TA was a nice grader. Least homework but best grades!
You don't really have to go to lecture because she posts everything online for the students. There is extra credit every week. I got a 78 and a 58 on the two exams, did the work and ended up with an A in the class with not much effort. Exams are online, at home, open note.
Professor Ouimet is a great professor. Everything is online. I would highly suggest purchasing the textbook. You need it to do well on her exams and quizzes. Also, you don't need to go to lecture, but I highly recommend you do because she gives extra credit every week. The extra credit assignments are definitely worth it! It was a great CA4 class!
I loved this class. Def recommend for a gen ed. You learn a lot. Attendance at lecture is not mandatory but it is good to go because she hands out extra credit every week on Weds. Exams are online, at home, with open notes. GET THE BOOK! Discussions are mandatory and easy enough once you pay attention and hand in your weekly assignments.
Dr. Ouimet was a good professor and this class was fairly simple and straightforward. She gives multiple extra credit opportunities which have a significant impact on your grade so take advantage of those. Her lectures are far from being boring and you are sure to actually learn a significant amount from going to class.
Ouimet is a good, clear professor. An easy class. 50% grade is discussion - 25% is an easy presentation, 25% is weekly thought questions. The other 50% - 25% online weekly quizzes from the reading, 25% online final and midterm. Online final and midterm do require studying, thought questions can take an hour or two. Go to discussion, youll be fine.
Eleanor is good, but she literally reads from the slides. And you get all of them at the beginning of the semester. You don't have to go to class at all to succeed, which is cool, but because Eleanor reads directly from the slides, class is usually dull.
Extremely easy and interesting class. 25% is participation by going to class and completely 3 Questions to hand in. 25% is a 5 paged double spaced research paper which is easy. 25% is working in a group to present a 50min presentation that you do with 8 other people and 25% is 3 quizzes which are all from notes that she gives you online too.
Elle is passionate and is very approachable. There are 4 quizzes and are easy As. No final but there is a group project worth a large chunk of the grade. You dont HAVE to go to class because she posts lecture notes. BUT I recommend it because you turn in a statement at the end of every class for credit. She repeats a lot and reads off slides.
Pretty dry in lecture. only show up to hand in 3 questions after ever lecture so that how she gets people to show up to class. midterm and final are online. Have to show up to discussion for participation and hand in weekly 3 questions based on 2 articles you read for that week. Super easy course with a pretty decent professor
she is very nice amazing class not at all boring for me we had guest lectures and movies sometimes so it was really interesting i recommond her
She is passionate and knows what she is talking about. There were two small quizzes, one larger quiz (for the final, taken before finals week which was nice) and a big group project. Just stay on top of everything and it is super easy. Don't spend too much time studying for tests/quizzes as they are super easy and mostly common sense.
Great teacher, have to hand in I3s after class that is 25% of your grade and is basically attendance. EASY. Said we need book but never used it once
Elle is one of the nicest professors. She is very understanding and her lectures tend to be quite interesting. There's weekly quizzes that are online, along with an online midterm and final. Besides that, there was one presentation on a generally easy topic (women's rights, social media, etc.).
She's a nice and understanding professor who's really passionate about what she teaches. also, ANTH 1010 is one of the easiest classes I've ever taken, it's more of a high school leveled class. 10/10 would reccomend for fulfilling content area 2 and 4
Professor Ouimet is really amazing and inspirational. Anthropology 1000 with her was one of the easiest courses I have every taken. Everything, including quizzes and tests were done online through HuskyCT. Very good GPA booster and content area filler for gen eds. Highly recommend as a first semester course when adjusting to college life. Loved it!
Elle is an amazing professor! She is so knowledgeable in her field and her lectures are very interesting. She interacts with her class and explains everything well. The exams are online, and there are assignments due in discussion each week, which are pretty easy. Highly recommend taking a course with her.
Loved Elle ! 10/10 recommend taking this course. She is interesting, engaging, and keeps the lecture more than just reading off the slides. The class itself is a super easy A. Midterms and finals are online with notes, and weekly quizzes are online too. One presentation in discussion is required but its simple. Not hard to do well at all!
Elle is a great professor, I had her in ANTH 1010 which I took as a gened, and it is a good class to take if you are interested in climate change, or if you are simply looking for an easy class. In class there were daily questions for attendance, which took maybe 2 minutes, then 3 quizzes and 1 group project for the entire semester. Recommended!
Lectures are very interesting and have to be attended because at the end of each lecture, you hand in 3 questions or comments for 20% of your grade. Another 20% are thought questions for discussions, where you also write 3 questions but extend and write about a page or 2. Midterm and final are each only 10% of grade and are online and on quizlet.
Professor Ouimet is one of the best I've had at UConn so far. She's smart, fair, and above all caring - which is a quality important in both teaching and anthropology. The class may be easy, as evidenced by the difficulty rating myself and others are giving, but it's also packed full of amazing stories and emotional lectures. Don't miss this class.
Eleanor's ANTH1000 is so interesting! Both the midterm and final were take home and online. Every week there were online quizzes due, and we had to write about a page on article readings, but they weren't too difficult. I would recommend going to lecture because she gives out extra credit, but I received an A without doing many of them.
Dr. Ouimet is extremely passionate about the class and really, put in the effort to teach the many aspects that were part of the class. She overall is an excellent professor and the class is easy but there is some work to put in, but no final.
You have to write 3 Q&A's about two articles every week for discussion, but they are easy and you can find article summaries to make it easier. After each lecture you hand in an index card with 3 questions or thoughts about the lecture so attendance is advised. She offers A LOT of extra credit and lectures are relevant and interesting.
As an Anthropology minor, this was a great class to take! Relatively easy to get the A. All you have to do is to show up to class, present a Powerpoint if it is your day to present, and participate. Weekly 3 page essay is expected to be completed and turned in class. Final paper is important, so don't leave till last minute. All in all, good class
Ellie is a great teacher. Took her class as a CA4 credit and was an easy A (if you put in enough work). knowledgeable, fair grader (multiple choice/TF/Short Answer), and is eager to help if you need it. Show up to class because the info posted online is tough to read through.
Amazing professor & eye-opening class. Exams are not difficult, just a lot of material to memorize. No homework, only assignment is a group project and writing three questions on a note card at the end of each class. Any questions, shell kindly answer them. Highly recommend everyone takes her.
There isn't much homework --just a weekly online, open-book quiz and a short reading response due in discussion-- but she compensates by expecting everyone to attend lecture (have to hand in a little attendance card at the end of each one). Midterm and final are also online, open-note. Super easy class as long as you do your work each week.
Dr. Ouimet is a great professor. She is really passionate about what she teaches and inspired many students to stand up for change. She talked about sensitive topics without taking a political stance and always engaged the class in meaningful discussion. I strongly recommend her and this class!
Eleanor is really nice, and the class was incredibly easy, but she tends to get on her high horse and sometimes it feels like she's lecturing about how smart she is instead of the material. She insinuated we weren't mature several times and insulted my major by saying anthropologists work harder than us... felt like I went to a TEDtalk daily.
I love Elle! She is such a sweetheart. This class has forever changed my life, I highly recommend it. Mon lecture (she has slides, but you only need to know main ideas), Wed Group presentation, Fri movie day. 2 exams, very fair questions. I3'seasy attendance grade. 4 short essays 2 Extra credit points to total. Joy (TA) hilarious. GREAT CLASS
A really nice professor with an obvious passion for the subjects she teaches. Textbook was barely used throughout the course, but attendance is mandatory as it makes up about 25% of your overall grade. Exams require you to have a good grasp of the material and study, but aren't overly difficult. Grades fairly and gives some extra credit options.
I took her class online and it was an easy class. There was something due basically every day (since it was a winter class), but I'd definitely take again. Professor Ouimet seems very caring. She offered multiple extra credit opportunities. Instructions were clear and she did a great job at reminding us when things were due.
Professor Ouimet is one of the best professors I have had. She is hilarious, passionate, and extremely intelligent. A quarter of your grade is your attendance so make sure you show up! Had an issue with a group project and when I brought it to her attention, she was extremely understanding and caring which is rare nowadays. Definitely recommend!
She is a very good lecturer and is super passionate about what she teaches. Exams and quizzes are open notes and online. As long as you show up to lecture and discussion you will pretty much pass.
Hands down one of the nicest professors I've had so far. Chapter quizzes, midterm, and final were all online and open book/note. You had to show up for class every day because participation is graded, and you have to read a couple articles every week and write 3 total thoughful questions about them, and present if it was your turn. Amazing class!!!
This is the second class I've taken with El and she is as kind as ever. Really passionate about what she's teaching, but admittedly it's kind of boring. Easy weekly online quizzes, easy online exams. Have to read two articles a week and make three in depth questions, which was the most annoying part of the class. Have to go to lecture!
I didnt love her lecture style as many seem to. She often seemed patronizing. Still, it was an easy class. 2 exams online and open notes. Weekly quizzes that can all be found on quizlet. Weekly reading and responses due in discussion. Must participate as well as present in discussion. MUST go to class bc must turn in written questions each lecture
Very easy so long as you go to lecture & discussion and do the homework. They say 20% of the grade is participation in the discussion section, but I didn't say a word aside from my presentation and got nearly full credit for participation. There are quizlets for all of the quizzes and exams (all online). It's hard to not do well.
Easiest class ever, midterm final both take home tests with way more than enough time to do them. Have to write about half a page on the text every week for discussion (not that bad) and chapter quizzes for the week that are all on quizlet. Must go to class to write in class notes (3 minimal comments on the lecture u turn in to ur TA)
One of my favorite professors. Group project is interesting and graded generously. Lectures are captivating and inspiring. Have to turn in note card every class for participation credit, but no other assignments other than midterm and final!
Class is so easy, and Professor Ouimet does it for your success. Exams/quizzes are online, and all answers are on Google. Participation matters since you write down three things you learned in lecture, and that is a portion of your grade. Didn't use textbook, but you need the reader for articles. Discussion is pointless, but mandatory. Good gen ed!
This is by far the easiest class I've ever taken. Turn in 3 questions for attendance in lecture, read 2 articles a week, and online chapter quizzes, answers all on quizlet so no need to read text. Midterm and final are online and entirely on quizlet as well. Amazing, easy-A gen ed that will genuinely make you a better human being; Elle is the best!
IF YOU CAN, TAKE A CLASS WITH PROF OUITMET! Especially ANTH 1010. Definitely my favorite, most inspiring class at UConn. Lectures are so interesting and she is so passionate and intelligent. You turn in notecards at the end of lecture to prove you were there (participation points), but it's fine because you won't want to be missing lectures!!
The i3's she has you do are a little annoying, where you basically just write 3 questions about the lecture material every class and hand it in. You read many articles, but they're short and can get pretty interesting.
Elle's class is 25% I-3s, 25% Mid-term, 25% Final, and 25% on group project, all graded easily. One can look at her slides and pass the tests, but she makes it close to mandatory to attend each class. She lectures extremely well, and has great passion. I-3s are an easy way to get credit in class, and one should expect above an A- with effort.
SO easy show up to class and show up to discussion, do your thoughtful questions and it's impossible to fail. Exams are all online and open book, open note, open internet. The only way you can do badly is if you're that lazy
Class is easy for Content Area 2,4 and INT requirement. Weekly lectures that you must attend for participation. Online open-book quizzes and exams. Hardest thing is having to write three paragraphs for each discussion about a chosen article. She is very passionate so lectures are enjoyable. Only downside is her pushing her own political views.
Professor Ouimet is extremely kind, and makes what could have been an extremely boring subject engaging. Tests in this class are take-home which makes it very easy. Lectures are mandatory attendance, with a small activity to ensure participation, which I didn't mind because otherwise there would be no point of the class at all.
This was a good gen ed class. Lectures were straightforward but I would recommend doing the reading as well. The discussion was the majority of the work (you have readings and papers due every week plus a presentation). Exams were decent from what I recall.
Ouimet's ANTH 1000 is your typical intro college class. Exams are fully online, multiple choice, which makes the course an easy A, but the discussion sections involve a considerable amount of reading and writing. 10% of the grade is lecture attendance, so just showing up is a good grade boost. Weekly online quizzes, answers are mostly online.
I really like the way this class is set up, we read a chapter (40ish pages) each week, then watch a video, write a reading response (1 page) then a disc post and 2 replies (1000 words total) it is a lot of reading and writing lowkey but its graded pretty easy and the content is interesting and engaging, pretty easy A if ur willing to put in work
1 400 word reading response, 1 400 word discussion board post, 2 250 word db replies, and 1 quiz due per week. You can get it all done in a couple hours easily. A perfect class to fill in the div-mult-int and other elective requirements and an easy A so long as you do the work. 10/10 recommend to use for credit, and the stuff you learn is great
Bc this was an online, asynchronous class, idk much about prof Ouimet but I really liked the way the class was set up on HuskyCT. The reading was a lot at the beginning but you can get by doing the quizzes by just skimming the book. The midterm and final are just the same questions as the quizzes, so as long as you do well on those you'll be fine
Prof Ouimet was great, easily one of the best and easiest classes I've taken. Class is fairly easy, 1 quiz, 1 Reading Response, 1 DB post, 2 DB comments each week, which can be done altogether within a day. Textbooks are kinda helpful with the assignments but could go without it too. Exams were online and lectures were asynchronous, great class
As long as you actually complete your assignments, this class should be a breeze. After every chapter (done weekly), there is a reading response of about 300 words. I would post something similar as a discussion post and reply to a couple people. Other than that, there is a midterm and final that used questions from quizzes. Good class.
Elle was a really nice professor. She gives out really clear assignments, the lecture slides are easy to access, and her projects are really fun and engaging. It was an amazing experience to learn from a professor who knows a lot about anthropology and also understanding a lot about her background within the field. She also gives out extra credit.
Took this class pre-COVID. Regretted it. Read a chapter from the textbook a week and each week a reflection on (not interesting) articles. The only bright side was that the quizzes and exams were online (no Lockdown) so it was pretty easy.
Easy, fun class. Work is not hard to complete.
I like her lectures, and a lot of stuff can be done online if you cannot make it to class. The only concern is that there is a big group project, and I had some bozos to work with. But still great!
Great professor, easily one of the easiest classes to take. Basically all online, only have to show up for your group presentation when it's due. Exams online, (midterm + final), 1 page paper (easy) on a video once a week, i3's (basically submitted notes), and 3 of them are dropped. Submit work on time and you'll get an A.
Ouimet is interesting, since her course is project based for most of it. Deadlines do not truly exist, so handing in reading papers is easy. The readings are dense though, and completing them prior to class can be rough. Class is biweekly, and the service project can be rushed at the end. Just make sure you participate and you care a bit.
My favorite prof I've ever had! Very passionate and riveting lectures. One class a week is dedicated to a big semester-long group project. Tests are online and open note. Can miss up to 3 classes before it starts to impact your grade.
Professor Ouimet was PHENOMENAL! The class is text-heavy--be prepared to read about 100 pages every other week and write 3-5 pages in response. The service component isn't too bad, just do your project, you can make it as simple or as difficult as you'd like. She's incredibly passionate and though the class was like 3 hours long, I enjoyed it.
Great professor, really cares about the subject matter and relaying it to students. Large portion of the class dedicated to a group project. Perfect class if you're looking for an easy one to fill the E course requirement.
Great class to fill out any last gen ed requirements. Professor is very passionate and understanding. Attendance is mandatory however and if subject matter is not something that interests you it can drag. Lots of group work so be aware of that going in to it.
Professor Ouimet is a very kind, organized and realistic professor. She is passionate about enviro anthro, so even tho the class was long, it was very engaging. Lots of papers and essay responses, but very doable. Semester long project is also not as intimidating as it may seem. Highly recommend as an honors core course!
Professor Ouimet is so passionate and kind. She made every discussion so lively. This class requires 4 readings and an essay summary of the readings every other week. The majority of the class is a service learning project throughout the entire semester. You can do this in a group or by yourself. It was super fun and incredibly rewarding.
Elle is one of the best profs and people, advocating in every way possible. This course was very interesting, but participating and attending is key. The homework, and projects were doable. Class was once a week for three hours. The final project is carried out through the whole semester and is very insightful. Clear grading and great course!!!
Prof. Ouimet was the kindest, and most knowledgeable professor I have had at UConn. She is so smart and passionate about her research, and she makes learning digestable and important. She has you submit an "exit ticket" before the end of each class, for particiaption, which is 25% of your grade. You can miss up to 3 unexcused
easiest class at UConn. Group project is super easy but make sure you get a good group or take the class with friends. Eleanor truly cares about what she is teaching and it truly shows. All the exams are online open note. Truly a great Gen Ed
She was an amazing professor and showed that she cared about the subject very much. It was an easy course as well. If you went to class for attendance and did well on exams/group project you will definitely do well in the class. Perfect class to take for an E course as well.
