likes to repeat herself, but very very nice
Repititious but good prof. Repititious but good prof.
Good but I feel like I'm sensing repitition, repitition, repitition...
Extremely nice. Straight-forward and clear.
And now we will study diagonalization...diagonalization...diagonalization...
her favourite quote: Why are you guys so excited today?!
another glorious day!
I Love Her
made test/exam objectives very clear. and echoes herself.
She makes math much easier.
very rude to engineers.... WHY?!?? not very clear in teaching, nobody listens to her
you suck
she does seem to dislike engineers for some odd reason... i found the class was quite boring which caused many to skip classes... and she repeats herself an average of 40-50 times every 30 minutes (some did count)... is that good or bad?
she's ok....i've had better profs. the class is easy, so u really don't need to go to the lectures.
Horrible. Accent confuses you on what she's saying since a lot of similar words get confused. Doesn't use the board to teach. Puts up a slide and says "it's online" and goes on. Just reads off slides really quick. No questions answered.
test are simple and fair, hardly studied for the final and got an A!! repeats herself quite frequently so you cant miss a thing.

THE NICEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HEARD
One of the best math teachers I have had. She was very clear. She did not tolerate stupid questions or any talking. Tests were fair.
clear
she is one of the best math teachers I have had. She writes complete notes on board, good test and good homework you can do. She is always there to help you when you are stuck.

Engineers...watch out...she doesn't like you! She's your typical math prof: expects you to find math sexy and fulfilling. She also expects you to copy notes faster than she writes them down on the board...ok elena, whatever you say DAMN CRACKA!
Good notes, good lectures, good tests, good final... very fair ... except for the fact that she doesn't like to teach engineers
She is excellent!!She makes the course so easy. The test was easy the final was easy. Just study off from the text book and ask question in her office hr. She doesn't like things complicate. If you come out with a complicate answer for her question. Redo it, the answer should be very very simple.
If you can't get an A in her class there's something wrong with you. Everything is straight forward; she provides tons of examples in class. She doesn't try to trick you on exams at all. Just do the questions from the book and go to class and get her examples and you will do well.
She is a superb teacher. She gives plenty of examples and is straightforward. Her testing is fair and her lectures are excellent. What more could one ask for?
she is a great prof. I came into her class only having gotten 62 in high school calculus.Use her office hours if you have trouble they help. This prof is awesome I went from high school 62 to an A+ because she was a great prof.
Awesome teacher, straightforward, clear, super helpful, no surprises on tests. I wish there were more math teachers like her
She is great, the only prof that actually teaches and not lectures! She is straight-forward, makes it all easy, tests are easy if you know the material. She always makes an effort and prepared for a lecture, and she does want you to do well. Take her if you can, she is probably the best calculus prof ever!
Great prof. And really funny if you understand her humor. One of the nicest profs I've ever had. No suprises and she tells it like it is. Practice and do the work you should have no trouble. Get her if you can.
very "intuitive" .. hehe, but an excellent prof, and probably the only prof at carleton who gives 10 min break in an hour and 20 min long lecture to keep ppl awake. easy exams and midterms. Just be careful about the double and triple integrals, its a boring topic but requires explaination.
she's an easy prof, easy tests and an equally easy exam. But i always hated how she took breaks in between the class and said "i hope i'm not insulting your intelligence". Just do the recommened problems on time and you can manage A- or above easily. I messed up on all the tests yet I got A+ in the course cuz the final was 100%...thats Elena.
very nice prof shes easy and teaches in a manner that is easy to follow.... her tests are very easy and exam was not bad either.... it was an easy A for me.
Elena is really awesome. If you come to class and do her reviews, it's easy to get a good grade. She is a really good instructor.
really nice and organized. i love her notes. just study. i don't like how she treated us like idiots though. i mean honestly the tapping on her mike. unnecessary. just tell the class to be quiet and start.

A true Russian quality professor. She is a superb lecturer and an amazing person. Notes are very clear and organized, while tests + exam are straight-forward. Definitely one of the best instructors in the Math Department.
amazing prof..knows exactly how to teach so tht students know wht to study and get good grades..tests, exams are all straight foreward..excellent notes..and definitely a bold prof..she's not afraid to speak her mind and be frank with her students..gets carried away sometimes and treats her class as a kindergarten class..but overall a superp prof
good enough prof when it comes to lectures and tests; She makes them very straightforward. However, her exam marking style leaves much to be desired. I have no idea how my performance in that class was rated so low, when I was at the top of my class going into the exam.
Pretty good prof.. explains concepts well and tests are fair.. she can be impatient with the class at times, though
Great Woman. Clear understandable notes. straight forward tests and exams. Get her If you can!
Great teacher! I have never thought I could enjoy the math class.
Awesome teacher, definitely my favorite of the semester. I never did well in math in highschool, but due to the fact that Elena can actually teach, I am finally understanding calculus. And she usually let us go early, which is always a bonus. Get her if you can!
She's a great prof. My friends and I always make fun of her eccentric quirks, which keeps us going thru the boring times that inevitably arises in math. She does a good job articulating the concepts of calculus, and refers to functions as being exotic. Oh, and be on good behaviour, she's not afraid of dealing out humiliating grade school punishment
Great prof! Explains clearly and has great comprehension of the material.
She's a pretty good prof. I have a funny feeling that most of these comments are from the same person, I wonder who they are from.
Prof. is good, knows the stuff but cannot explain it clearly and easily to the students. Complicates it so much that the student is bored to death and loses all the motivation to study linear algebra.
Awesome Prof! Made 8am calculus bearable.
Her enthusiasm for the subject of calculus really made the subject (my least favourite) so much better. She always had interesting stories or comments that made it easier to be in class at 9am.
very well explained examples..
The best prof for Math3705!!!
Stopped going to class after a while, wish I didn't... the last two chapters are the hardest (for business calc) but you can probably survive the exam without knowing it well. I appreciate her making the textbook like $15 but there are a few mistakes in it.
I'm unsure why everyone else on here seems to like her so much, she's a horrible prof. You could NEVER ask questoins during her class all we did was copy notes. Her explinations were really bad. Just rambled on in front of the class. Nice lady though (not exactly the top priority here).
She was not that great of a teacher since she rambled!! Very hard to understand her. The material wasnt hard though just read the textbook and go to tutorials. Test was easy and exam was extremely easy as well (get past exams from library--practically the same questions). I got an A+ :D :)
fine...
Even if you can't ask questions in class, or if you can't understand her accent sometimes, she is an amazing prof. She clearly knows her stuff and explains the examples really well.
Great prof. I find math classes hard to follow along with in general, and hers were really no different but she's just such a nice lady. Funny too. Her tests were straightforward and the exam was easy.
best teacher ever easy A+
Her tests are not too easy, but as long as you do all the work, read the textbook, pay close attention in class and take down the notes fast, you'll be a Calculus boss! Her style of teaching is amazing, and it's always another glorious day for us.
Awesome prof! Explained everything clearly, labs are all related to the subject studied in class, grades are posted mostly with in a week, class is fun. ANOTHER GLORIOUS DAY OF CALCULUS!
Another glorious day of calculus! Haha, get used to hearing that! Elena is a really good professor. She is always happy and realizes that most of the class hates math but tries to make it as interesting as possible. She also posts tests from the year before online, which are almost identical to the ones she uses for the course. Overall, great prof!
Great math prof, brilliant woman. She wrote her own textbook so it is easy to follow her class structure as she religiously follows the textbook. Class overall is easy, you must practice some, but it is very fair. Her tests are very easy, no trick questions. One of the best math teachers I've ever had.
It is all very intuitive. Very easy course so no one showed up but when I did she was good and funny.
Really great prof. Had her for Calculus - MATH1009. Her test are extremely fair and reflective of the work in the text book and lectures. Lecture notes are not posted online and include problems that pop up on tests so I would recommend going. If you put the work in and do the problems you can achieve an A+ - I did!
Easiest class ever... tests are identical to practice tests. Intuitive
Lectures were clear, the last test had a question (the optimization one) was a bit challenging, but otherwise other tests and final exam was very fair. Good teacher who does lots of examples with full solutions.
She is one of the most friendliest and most help prof I have had so far at Carleton. As long as you do the work she assigns you in her small textbook that she wrote herself, the tests and final exams should be a walk in the park. Guaranteed A+ if you just do your homework, and honestly,it does not take that long to do.
So the tests are fair and pretty easy considering she gives us practice tests. If you study enough and understand you will leave the class with an A. She wrote the book so attendance isn't really mandatory but its helpful.
Shes one of the best professors you just cant ask for a better professor, I got a B even though I didnt really study for any test but wih the incoming final test im gonna get an a im sure
Clac class, difficult to grasp content with even extra help from other mediums, Prof wasn't there the last day of classes for extra help. Though did suggest Skyping her for help.
Easy A if you took high school calculus.
She's going too fast and expecting a lot from her students. Assume that her students are all smart enough to understand right away what she's talking about. Seems like she's racing with something during class. But she's a good prof, making sure the lessons are clear.
Really great professor! If you took high school calculus, it makes it even easier. She was very helpful and explained problems very well. It is very important to go to the lectures and do the practice testsproblems. The final exam was tough but fair and so were the tests. I would definitely recommend taking her class, she was awesome.
the best prof you will ever see, wants everyone to get A and sets the course to be that way if u put some effort.
Honestly one of the best math profsteachers I have ever had. I did calc in high school so it was easy. The practice tests are identical to the actual ones so if you take a little time to make sure you know how to do them then its a guaranteed A. She is REALLY helpful during her office hours so definitely go to them!
Fantastic professor. Very helpful and her lectures and clear and organized. She is also extremely nice and gives great practice tests and exams, I would highly recommend her!
Great prof. Gives good practice materials for tests and have clear lectures
Go to the first couple classes; while she may be helpful for some, she is also difficult for some to follow up. I personally didn't have the best experience with her, but I've heard otherwise from different students. There definitely are better profs though.
Amazing prof
Amazing professor, would definitely recommend. She was very nice and helpful and explained concepts well in the lectures. If you go to the lectures and pay attention you will do well. Also, the homework practice was very helpful. Overall, she is a fantastic professor.
Easiest class at Carleton. If you do bad in this class, dropout. Practice is key if you arent the best person in Math, but the practice tests are identical to the real tests so practice the **** out of them! Textbook is great for practice and she is really nice and helpful. Stop going to lectures simply because it was so simple.
Best prof eveeeeeeeeeeer !
Terrible at teaching from scratch. If you don't know much math going in, prepare to be stressed.
Easy class if you took Grade 12 calculus & vectors
Prof. Devdariani has a special way of making you feel like an idiot for asking questions. That being said, it's an easy mark if you do the practice problems; just ask a TA if you need help.
Great professor. Genuinely tries to help when asking questions 1 on 1
If you have take calc before this class is very easy. She does go over everything from the begining which is great for people with no experince. Pretty clear and tries to make jokes but not very good ones. Tests are fair, no midterm but the final is 60% so study everything from the begining as she makes sure its all equally there.
Great Prof, just try and find her old tests and you should be set, very fair marker as well. Probably one of the best teachers you can get in 3705
Tests were easy, Final was easy. She typically uses questions from old tests, with very little tricks. She teaches well and is knowledgable in math.
Good at teaching and helpful if you don't understand but horrible as a person. Truly mean and miserable.
You don't have to show up to lectures. All you have to do is practice and do work from the textbook that she wrote. Textbook is a good resource and so are the TA's (mine told me what was on a test) She did switch up test material between first and second semester so be careful when reviewing old tests. She takes best 3/4 .
An amazing professor. If you are a hardworking student and she knows that, then she goes above and beyond to help you. Tests are not hard at all, she doesn't pull any tricks. Just do the textbook exercises over and over again, students can pass the course with 80+ easily.
I love Elena a lot! The topics she teaches are usually tough if you miss lectures or don't do the practice, but her lectures are always well-structured. If you attend the lectures, the topics all fit well together in a progressive manner, and you should find the course manageable.
It really helps to take grade 12 calculus and vectors. If you haven't, you'll have to really really work for your grade and you may struggle. She has a teaching style that is either hit or miss, however she does go at a good even pace.
really easy and awesome teacher
If you didn't take calculus in grade 12 I would recommend that you do not miss any classes, but if you took calc before it should be fairly easy. The tests are all VERY similar to the tests from past years, study those and do all the practice problems. If you ask questions she can make you feel like an idiot. If you need extra help GO TO TA HOURS!
Math 3705 is a fairly easy course, especially if you have Elena. Read the text book, find old test and do the old exams lots and this class should be a easy A!
Always a glorious day with Elena, she gives good lectures that are worth attending. Her tests are quite easy and they're all textbook questions so as long as you do the problem sets in the textbook, you'll do good in the course.
Extremely straightforward and zero surprises on the exam and tests. Do the work in the textbook and you'll do well
So this is our little practice problem, and it's as difficult as it gets.
"Good morning, Another glorious one". This class was easy because of grade 12 calculus. A lot of youtube videos on this stuff so even if you don't show up to class, you can manage on your own. class lectures only useful if you wanna see an example of a question you don't know how to do. Overall good teacher and you basically get a 90% for practice
She is a fair grader. Goes through things fast but will answer questions well if you ask. Content is really easy, so I'd say she's less of a great prof but rather shes's an okay prof for a really easy course. Lectures are word for word out of the textbook, attendance not mandatory. Tests and exam are really straightforward, no trick questions.
If you went to the lectures, she explains everything thoroughly. She is an amazing prof that is very passionate about what she teaches. I sat in the front of the class, so it was easier to follow along with the lectures, but she does go through the examples fast so its important to pay attention and keep up.
If you took calculus is Grade 12 you don't need to show up to class until the last week and maybe not even then. Her lectures give you extra practice on the problems and the test are generously marked. She is a nice prof that wants you to succeed. Good class, good prof.
Grade 12 Calc really helped in this class, which makes it super difficult to fail the course. Do some practice before the tests and you can get 80+. if your final mark on the exam is better than the average of your best 3 tests, your final make is your exam mark, which is 28 multiple-choice questions. A LOT of people get 100 on her final
She is the best math professor I've had ever. She doesn't post notes, so you have to go to class. Her tests are similar to what is covered in the tutorials. If you have a question, she explains it clearly. She even has a subtle sense of humour which is a nice touch to her lectures. "This is as good as it gets" - go to class and you'll understand.
Made my Tuesday's and Thursday's! Does a great job teaching, helps if you took Calc grade 12 and changers 1-4 are a repeat. Takes grades from 3/4 tests and your final but tests are very easy. Final is all mc, a lot of people got 100% on it. Has a bit of an accent but you get use to it quick. Best calc prof hands down.
TAKE HER CLASS! I was scared to experience calc in university but she made the experience as best as it could be! She is an amazing professor and takes the proper time to teach the course material. The textbook solely covers the course material with a reasonable amount of practice exercises! 3 best tests of 4 are graded and the exam was 20 M/C!
Online asynchronous math class - yes, it was dry - but Elena did a good job making the lectures concise & informative. Textbook was written by her and is incredible: Concise, easy to follow, just the right amount of practice problems, and a very reasonable price. Course has 4 Tests, only 3 count, giving you some leeway. Definitely recommend :)
This is the second math class I've had with her. She moves quickly but gives very clear explanations. Would definitely recommend her as a prof.
She gives clear and concise lectures. She is also very reasonable. The textbook is written by her and the examples and homework are similar. The tests are very similar to the tutorials. You always know what to expect. Take her class.
She was a good prof, however I found her lectures contained no useful examples, and her voice was quite monotoned. Grading was fair, and homework assignments and quizzes made practicing concepts easier. Her lectures were dreary, as she often made mistakes and stumbled through words during them. Would take a different math class with her again.
Very dry lectures, which were in a monotone voice. Lectures go over the exact information that is in the textbook, so just focus on reading the textbook and watch lectures if you're confused. Exams and tests basically copied questions from past semesters, which makes them very easy. Lots of free marks on MyMathLab, basically a free 40%.
She's great! Lectures are straightforward, the textbook/lectures is exactly the same as what gets tested. No surprises on tests, same for exams. I'm bad at math but had no trouble because she explains things very clearly
Lacks organizational skills. Language barrier makes it hard to understand the already complex course. Didn't say which lectures would be covered on the quizzes; responses to emails were unhelpful. At least she drops the lowest grade on assignments. Tests are very hard and don't reflect what was covered in homework. 100% don't recommend this prof.
Disappointing.
Perhaps the worst professor to walk the earth, disgusting excuse for a teacher , hope her life goes horrible
Easy course, got an 82 on the final. During the final she was very rude with me, even threatened to not mark my exam because I didn't have my student ID. Had she been listening to the exam proctor, gov. issued ID or Student ID is valid... Very inconsiderate to unleash that energy on a student during an already stressful situation.
If you were at least decent at grade 12 math in high school, then this course should be a breeze for you. The professor is great with her lectures as she gives us many problems to solve as an entire group. She also gives us the flexibility to watch her online version of her lectures if we aren't able to attend. Overall, this is a great course!
Professor Devdariani is extremely helpful, and kind. She understands that student can have bad days and as a result makes it easy for her students by giving them more time to finish assignments. She want's to see her students succeed.
MATH3705 is definitely a challenge, especially when you are expected to know absolutely everything from previous math classes. She doesn't take well to questions about lower level stuff but if you can focus and pay attention, you should be fine. Do as many practice questions as you can because her tests can be difficult.
She is nice but very weird. Also does not give a hoot for educating the youths but rather her teaching this course is a quick money grab. She do be getting that bag tho.
MATH 3705 is not an easy course to start with. She goes so fast during lectures, very hard to keep up. On top of that, she doesn't even turn around to see if there are any questions. Her tests are harder than other sections. She spends too much time on derivation and not enough time on examples.
This is as difficult as it gets
She is quick, straightforward, and knows how to teach students effectively. She goes a bit too fast sometimes, but if you listen in class and do regular exercises outside of class you should be absolutely fine.
Very good professor, highly recommend her
Professor Devdariani makes MATH1009 a breeze. Her lectures are clear and engaging, and the textbook she wrote is a great resource. Definitely use unstuckstudy for extra practice - it's a lifesaver! Overall, a manageable and rewarding class.
fast pace dry lectures
Loved this prof. Straightforward explanations and plenty of examples. Attend class and make sure you can do the examples on your own and you're set. Very fair tests. Entertaining enough to make me willingly get to class for 8:30.
Lectures go way too fast for someone to understand and the lectures are hard to understand. I got the grade i earned by teaching myself the entire course. Textbook is also very useless.
She knows her stuff and would be a good teacher for students that understand math from the start. However extremely degrading and disrespectful to students that don't understand math. Wouldn't take her if you don't want to feel stupid. I skips classes near the end cause it was just copying and to fast. Leaned better on my own. Gave answers to all.
she doesn't give a flip, the ta's are also very strict for no reason. julia is the worst one tbh
*Very* fast pace lectures, makes it hard to keep up sometimes. Can be a little harsh sometimes, seems like she only cares about doing her job. That said, the textbook (written by her) was simple and straight to the point, including an answer key too. Very well written and it's clear she knows her stuff. Mostly learned straight from the book tbh
She's a decent prof, but during lectures she goes all over the place when she does examples, if you got 80+ in high school math this course is gonna be fine for you. Tests are 15 percent each x 4, easy quizzes worth 5% total. Questions are taken straight from the textbook, but with different numbers. If you study a couple days before you'll be fine
She is a great teacher. She is kind and teaches the material in a very easy-to-understand manner. The tests and the exam were just as expected, not too hard, not too easy. She doesn't play any tricks unlike most math professors.
Plays no tricks. Everything can be taken at face value. Not a difficult course, and she will not waste your time. Tests are almost identical to practice problems in the textbook, which was written by the prof.
