helps with everything, heavy accent but she writes things out in detail
she tells you all the answers to the quiz
Very easy A
Accent is a little hard to understand, but when she works a problem it is easy to follow and teaches the concept. Easy A for the course.
easy A, hard accent to understand, but she will explain everything until you understand her. good lab teacher.
Her accent is extremely foreign, but she can write good English. If you ask the right qestion, she'll give you the answers to the quizes.
Great lady. Very helpful teacher.
Gave up all the answers so easily
Great professor. She is very smart and likes to help all students.
Helps out on quizzes and test as well as HW. Her reviews problems for the test are what you see on the test.
Lecture is a bit boring, but must go to class because of "unanounced quizes". Tests are easy.
She doesn't hand you all the answers, but she really wants to help her students succeed in class. She can be flexible with her office hours if you just ask.
Can't understand a single word. She might as well speak in her native russian tongue. Don't let it deter you from staying in the class though. Her quizzes and tests are extremely easy. Plug-and-chug on almost every question.
Great teacher, she will help you in everything, tests are great, russian is a bit of a problem, just do what she has scheduled you will get a good grade, niece Russian lady ive ever met, take her
Intelligent teacher, helps you learn and very nice, explains things, russian is a bit of a problem..
Very good teacher. A little hard to understand sometimes, but sit in the front of the class, and you shouldn't have a problem. If you have to take Physics III, take it w/ her.
Great teacher.you have to get used to her accent, but after you do just go to class and you will get an "A". Her examples are exactly like the test. She posts her notes on the website immidiatly after class in case you miss.
Wonderful instructor. Wants you to understand the concepts, but also wants you to pass. Very down to earth. She arranged an optional study session once per week for all students interested.I highly recommend her to anyone that wants to take modern physics
Wow, I'm surprised at all the good reviews. No one could understand a word she said. Everything she wrote down was copied off her paper. She could not answer any question if someone raised their hand. She kept making mistakes in her lectures.
May not be clear, and may not answer questions, but the tests are damn near easy A's. She gives you equations to everything plus she will basically give you the answer if you stand up and ask her a question. Everyone should have this teacher.
Difficult to understand, heavy Russian accent, coupled with tough subject. The tests aren't bad if you look over the material. Often, her help sheet on the test will walk you through the problems. She also fields questions durring the test.
Great teacher, if you study taker her quizzes and do the massive homework you are okay, study hard get an A in the final and she will give you an A....she is great and very intelligent....great Russian lady...works very hard for her students
Great teacher who is very helpful and intelligent. She is always willing to help each student and does a great job.
Sometimes difficult to understand, but in the end its worth the whole semester. The material is basically spoonfed to you and every test and quiz is walk in the park. If you can plug values into an equation then you should be okay.
Easy to learn, hard to understand; her accent is too strong.
This class is a joke.Upon completion, i have not retained anything it seems. Easy A.
the class is easy, the quizzes are easy, the tests are kinda easy. Questions are basically right from the notes. Unless you know Russian, shes hard to understand, but who cares.
not clear at all...notes dont help...homework doesnt help...no clue on how to study for this class. her review isnt all that helpful either! take dubey!
Great teahcer. You can tell she is really trying to help because she knows she has a thick accent. The test were wonderful, all you have to do is ask her a question during the test and she will pretty much tell you the answer. Easy A
Dr.Flitsyian teaches well. All of her test are straight out of the powerpoint slides and webassign HW.She also allows a formula sheet during the test. Her grading scale is very good. 85-100 is an A,74-84 is a B.I recommend this teacher to everyone, but her russian accent is can confuse u sometimes.
Don't know what the HW was for and spent most of the time repeating the same material over and over. Didn't understand the questions being asked of her. Very hard to know what to study for tests! I would take someone else.
She is very hard to understand when she's speaking, but she is a nice lady, and if you go to her office and speak to her about the test and quizes she'll help you out a lot.
She is so hard, doesn't explain things clearly, puts tricky questions on tests, just a very bad teacher overall... do not take her!
all the people that gave her a smiley face must be on crack. I have been to her office and she doesn't explain anything, she basically just reteaches herself! Also the tests are awful and the formula sheet she allows provides NO HELP!
She does not let u use a formula sheet, the one she provides is worthless, there are 2 test forms for 1 test, on one almost evry1 fails, She blames the grades on people not studying, and not the test difference. She never answers Qs strait up. U shouldnt have to go to office hours, but just class :P
Take this class if you want to skip and study by yourself, because she doesn't explain, you'll fall asleep in class...exams are very easy, and she will answer any question, during a exam
She is an exellent professor very nice lady that is interested in educating also very reasonable and understanding Highly recommended for any class Her class and test are prety straight foward. Her accent is a litle hard to grasp but if you are interested in the material it wont make a difference.
Oh, How sweet it is to pass this course with an A
The accent is hard to understand at times but she makes the tests and quiz SO easy. I hardly studied and aced the course. She is very nice and is very interested in the students. If you put forth an effort, she will be very helpful to you. I think she is a wonderful professor.
For some reason people think she is "easy" when after all you are required to WORK VERY VERY HARD. If you learn the material on a daily basis you should be ok. I have no idea what this "accent" thing is about, she's clearer than most Floridians :)
If you take this class make sure you have Flitzie on your side. I would have it no other way. She is helpful in everyway, if you dont understand something she will help you out. She cares about students unlike others. Show up for unannounced quizzes and scheduled test, you should be fine. :D
Not a bad teacher to take if you don't mind doing some work. Physics is a very hard subject to learn so regardless you're going to have to put some time in. She curves a lot so even if you did bad on a test you usually get some bonus points added to it. Make sure you show up for the unannounced quizes and do the work and you'll be fine.
The people who gave her bad ratings are completely retarded! She is the nicest, easiest, most helpful physics teachers you will ever have at UCF. If you are taking physics, make sure you have her.
Why people would give her a smiley face, I have no idea. Her accent is very difficult to follow. Her tests only have 5 questions, worth 20 pts each if you get beggining wrong the whole question is wrong. Class is huge even in summer. Notes don't follow homework that well. Homework was difficult and I studied everyday! I would take at Valencia C.C.
Cake. Prof may be hard to understand, but ask her to help you with every lab and quiz and she will do it for you and you can turn in her work. It is impossible to not get an A. She is a sweet lady, be nice to her. And she smells good. :)
Dr. Flitsiyan is easily the best teacher in the whole Physics department. I have yet to meet a teacher who cared more about her students. The class itself is pretty difficult, but nobody ever said quantum physics was easy. She does everything to make it as painfree as possible. Awesome!
Hard to understand what she was saying most of the time. Also, she would make mistakes in her problems on the board and the students would have to correct her. She was nice and helpful though, just the language barrier that made it hard.
Dr. Flitsiyan was a very helpful instructor. Her organization improved on each passing day. She always had time after class for one on one instuction. Her e-mail response wasn't very good but then she was probably swamped with e-mail. The professor worked well with the class during each lecture. Modern Physics was hard but I admired her dedication.
Damn is she boring!!! She basically reads off of a power point word for word. Her tests are not that easy but she is very kind when grading. It is easy to get an A in this class. Don;t get me wrong you still have to study and turn in homework. Attending class is nearly optional since she posts the power points on line.
I'm not sure what these other people are talking about. Yes she is nice, yes she wants you to learn, yes she tries to help outside of class, but her teaching style is terrible, and so is her grading style. Avoid if possible, although I'm sure she isn't the absolute worst of the Physics Dept.
I agree with the person below me. Shes nice, but her class is TERRIBLE, the majority of the class is going to get a C or D and shes not curving >: All my other friends in different physics classes are passing with As, and I'm puttin in the same amount of effort and getting nothing for it. Definitely look for someone else.
If you want a passing grade dont take her. Very unorganized and a terrible teacher.
Good Teacher. Prompt & uses time well-is readily available in person & via email. Uses powerpoints and board examples for predictable unannounced quizzes. These and homework make up large percentage of grade - attendance is encouraged. Tests and final are difficult-studygroup neccesary to prepare adequately and to understand and reinforce concepts.
She's a very good person! She will help you. Going to class is useless (in 3101). Her accent is hard to understand and the room is big, so most people will sleep thru her classes. Test are easy, She makes the formula sheets with all you need. If you have no idea of how to answer 1 question in a test, just write whatever and you'll probably get part
Avoid this professor! She is a nice lady, but her teaching method lacks something to be desired. She has a bad accent and it is hard to understand her even when sitting in front. She reads powerpoint word for word and uses a laser pen. Students always run out of time on tests. Not an enjoyable experience!!
Take her if you can. Her test and quiz problems came straight out of the book and she gives you the formulas. Get the solutions manual for HW and a good lab instructor and the worst you'll get is a B.
This teacher is probably the WORST I have ever had. All smiley faces for this teacher was most likely posted by herself because she doesn't deserve anything higher than poor. She pulls equations out of nowhere and doesnt explain where anything comes from. Her Tests are very difficult and she never knows why the class does so poor. Don't take her!!!
Phy 3 is so hard but she tries to help. she will help you pass, but make sure she gets to know you
Trying to learn in her class was horrible. She didn't teach but read straight from her notes, and was unable to answer ANY of the questions students asked in class. Also the tests were very hard, even with a formula sheet. The only positive thing is that she answered almost any question during tests, such as "How do you do this?"
Teacher uses time well. Is readily available in person after class & via email. Accent is thick; however, if you sit in front row you can master it. Teacher is EXTREMELY helpful-but you will not blow smoke up. Attendance req'd for excellent quiz score that helps final grade. Studygroup neccesary to ace homework(20%) &to prepare for difficult tests.
Dr. Flitsiyan is a wonderful professor. The accent merely adds some character, as everything she's saying is also typed out in front of you so it's easy to know what she's saying. It's funny that the stupid kids who can't grasp physics 1/2 are also the ones bad mouthing her.
Tries to be helpful and by nature is nice, but is far from a master of the subject. She tries to give you questions straight from the book which makes it doable, and if you like learning by yourself shes ok, but if you want her to teach you.. forget it. She is the worst TEACHER I have ever had!!
can't understand a thing she says, but helpful on exams if you ask how to do a problem
Accent is thick but not difficult to understand. She's very knowledgable about the subject, but it's a difficult one (and the book sucks - every fourth problem answered ><) so it may very well prove difficult no matter who teaches it. She's very helpful on tests and in office hours, so use her knowledge as much as you can and you should do fine.
This is by far the best professor anyone could have for a physics class. The exams are fair, and the homework is up to par.Quizzes are easy if you pay attention, they are free points.Anyone who doesn't do well in her class or thinks she's not a good teacher doesn't deserve the degree they are seeking,if you pay attention and do the work, you'll do good
Bad class. Completely disorganized. However it's an easy A. She gives easy exams and she curves like crazy.
Great woman and really really knows what she's talking about. She has difficulty communicating that information to students though and she knows that her accent hurts. But she does try to help you on an exam and she takes all the questions straight from the book. Get a solutions manual and study all the questions and can get an easy A.
Such a sweetheart. the class isn't a cakewalk but it's not that difficult, and she goes at a snail's pace so everyone will understand. Her accent does take some getting used to, but once you get it, you hardly notice it.
Great teacher. Speaks slowly so her accent isn't too bad. I found it easier to understand the material when sitting in the front. Everyone gives her a hard time but she's not stupid. The exam questions come from examples in class and phy 2 book. If you're confused.. raise your hand and she'll give you the answer. Not easy, not hard.
I had her for Physics for Sci.&Eng. 1. Never took physics before this class and ended up with an A. Her accent is not hard to understand, just makes class more enjoyable/entertaining. Genuinely wants the students to understand what is happening in a problem and is willing to go over it for anyone who does not get it. Extremely helpful during tests!
Newtons fourth law: Professor Flitsiyan cannot teach. Although this is not an actual law of physics, its the only thing I learned from Mrs. Flitsiyan. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the class got A's, but I seriously doubt anyone really understood what they were doing.
do all the homework and practice it and quizes or ILDs and you'll pass the class. In nature physics is hard but she will try as much as she can to help you learn. Real nice teacher. I failed both of my tests but passed the final and passed the class
She cant do the problems without notes or powerpoints. She contradicts what the book has to say about physics. We crawled through chapters 1-9 then raced through 10, 11 two days before the final. We were supposed to get all the way up to chapter 15. So mostly everyone fails the tests in the end, and she curves the whole class by like 50 points.
Reads power points with a very heavy Russian accent, and does problems that she got already done on a piece of paper asking her a question is not helpful at all. Most of the class was lost and scared we were going to fail but passed with decent grades. You will have to teach yourself! Tests had one question from the review.
Compared to other physics professors I would suggest her You will have to teach yourself but there are many ways for you to get help. Tests were sometimes hard but definitely passable. Yea her accent is hard but go to her office hours, shes willing to help. Doing so will show her that you're trying. Ask her questions on test, too!
Awesome professor!! Easy A. Test and quiz questions come straight from the book. Do the homework and study the problems at the end of each chapter (especially the ones from the homework) and you'll be fine. Go to her office hours too. She'll know you're at least trying.
Good professor. Russian accent may take time to adjust to. Uses PowerPoint and reads slides verbatim. The examples solved in class are already worked out on the slides, which are available ahead of time on her website. Had random pop quizzes to make people come to class. Other than this, pay close attention to the exam reviews.
Professor Flitsiyan has good intentions and genuinely wants her students to do well, but is a terrible communicator. She cannot explain the problems on her own, she has to read forbatum from her powerpoint slides and her explanations become increasingly useless as the material gets harder. Dont take her if you want to learn physics.
She is Sooo cool! Yes, her accent might be a little hard to understand, or funny, but it doesn't matter since its all on her Power Points. She might even help during exams. She is also very nice, and remembers students!
Perhaps one of the smartest woman in central florida. Tests reflect HW, easy quizes (you get a 7/10 just for showing up). I liked this class it was easier than the other two Physics classes. She is generous with her time and very helpful. It was nice to have a woman teacher for once.
She was sometimes thrown off, but mostly by students just saying things that were incorrect. She really cares about students and has an open door policy regarding office hours. I was pleased to see that she remembered my name out side of the class room.
I got a B in the class but could honestly say that I have NO CLUE what's going on. I'm screwed for Physics 2. The labs are easy but are now using web assign. Homework is on web assign and is the only place you'll actually learn anything. Russian- difficult to understand. She's also oblivious to what's going on around her. Sweet woman.
Didn't learn a thing. She passed me when with out actually teaching me. I'm suffering in statics because of her and wish I had failed and had to take it again. She was very nice though. And always tried to help. She'd be a great grandma, but not professor.
I got an A in this class, but I have never worked so hard in a class. You can't really understand what she is saying because she is Russian. You NEED THE TEXTBOOK TO LEARN. The good thing is she give you a practice exam before the test and it is exactly like the test except she changes some number around.
She is very good teaching if you want to learn. She is a very helpful when you ask her questions, she even help you during quizzes or test!!! It is a hard subject; therefor, you have to study hard and do all the HW's. If you can't understand her just get closer , you will then. HW are harder than tests but study the test review and you'll do great!
helps you out on the tests, and gives extra credit project, best phy 3 prof at ucf
Right now it is finals week and I really hope I land a B in this class after the final! A 'C' is extremely easy to get. She is the easiest physics teacher you will ever have but you wont learn a damn thing you are on your own. find tutors and study those practice exams to the max. Always get As on your hw and lab this class!!
It was hard to understand or keep focus, definitely get an outside tutor and know the practice exams insode and out
She's difficult. Her ppts are correct, but you can't trust most of what comes out of her mouth (she makes SO MANY MISTAKES). There are iclicker questions for participation, labs/webassign, & 3 tests (no quizzes). However, she gives you a practice test before each test, & it's nigh identical to the real thing. 85-100 = A, it's not hard to pass.
She has a heavy accent, sounds Russian. Lectures are read straight off the power point and like I said shes not easy to understand. Homework is online and is extremely time consuming. Her test reviews are not very good and her tests are also difficult. Mainly because you are not prepared for them. If you take her prepare to teach yourself
She is an amazing teacher if you pay attention and participate in class. She likes smaller classes better so it is best to take her class in summer or just go to her office hours regularly. Don't hesitate to ask questions, she loves them. I would defiantly recommend taking her for this class!
Great teacher who makes learning physics interesting. Grades very fairly and always willing to help students. Probably the best physics teacher I have taken at UCF!
She's an easy grader. Attend classes because there will be pop quizzes and they are usually from the last lecture's material. Overall, though, my physics 1 and 2 professor were phenomenal. She killed my interest in physics. But, she did her best and she is very enthusiastic about the subject: especially nuclear! Made an A-.
Takes an extremely hard class and makes it harder. Nice lady but doesn't teach the basics or the concepts behind the problems which makes the problems very difficult. Thick Russian accent
She tries hard to make the material interesting, and the tests are overall fair. However at times as I felt she had a hard time keeping the attention of the students and if it wasn't for the iClicker quizzes I am unsure if most students would attend lectures consistently. Nonetheless, she is a bright person and always willing to help students.
Same as below with the addition of her grading scale, you'd have to get below a 50 to fail, and a C is 64 to like a 75. The homework is insane: almost an assignment a week and it takes some work even with Chegg and solution manuals. The iclicker quizzes was 15% of the grade at the start and she changed it to 5% at the very end. Beware...
The key to this class is really just being able to plug some numbers into the forumlas that are given. The only real problem is that her lectures are boring and she relies too much on complex proofs rather than simple fundamentals. Her class is very stress-free though because of her super lenient grading.
Dr. Flitsiyan is great. Yes, she has an acccent. It's not any kind of issue, at all. She was extremely helpful in her office.
Simply the best!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Flitsiyan gave me a much deeper interest in physics- she's a great lecturer. She's also VERY helpful in her office hours. She does, however, expect you to actually UNDERSTAND physics. For better or for worse, she makes sure you get the grade you deserve... so if you're an A student, take her; if you're a "Cs get degrees" student, skip her.
AMAZING professor. Don't be frightened off by first impressions, she's ridiculously nice. More than willing to help you outside of class. Class content isn't easy but tests are way easier than HW so you'll be prepared. Interesting class + she's really passionate. P.S. TB + solution manual are online, and the online HW Qs are also in the TB.

I liked her a lot. She was genuinely passionate about the subject, effective at teaching the material, and very helpful to anyone that asked.
Dr. Flitsiyan one of this hard to find passionate professors in the STEM field. There's nothing worse than taking advanced Physics courses with a teacher who is about to put you to sleep. She goes out of her way to help every student and is very friendly. I look forward to her lectures. She also has a very impressive resume in the field.
Dr. Flitsiyan is a brilliant, passionate, and wonderful professor who truly cares about her students. The group project encouraged us to learn beyond the scope of the material. She encourages students to ask questions and learn and will sit down and take her time to make sure you are learning. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for you to take her for PHY 3101
Was an absolue treat. Clear requirement for the course, gives lots of help. If you ace the first exam, the rest arent so bad. Special relativity was the harder part for students to understand. The rest is actually easily learned.
Loved! She cares a lot for students and wants you to learn. Office hours saved my grade; they helped a lot! Her accent is thick and her in class lectures weren't very helpful. 3 test, no final, pop quizzes but this was during summer C so maybe different during regular semesters. She knows what she's doing and is very passionate about physics.
Her accent made lectures boring, but she is very accessible outside of class. Go find the solutions manual online, as HW problems are textbook problems with different numbers, but try problems without it first. She did many things to "curve" the class (e.g. dropped a quiz, reworked test scores). Try to study as you go to stay on pace. Got an A.
Very nice old lady that loves her students, but i didnt learn a single thing in her physics 1 class. she teaches by doing long examples on the board. Homework was mostly on yahoo answers
Love this professor. Absolute treat to hear her lecture. She's the head of the undergraduate physics department at ucf and you can tell she really does care, and she does. Go into her office, talk to her after class, she may come off a little brusque at times but that's just her Russian accent. Clear on what is required in the class. Good lecturer.
As a transfer student, I wasnt sure what to expect. Prof Flitsiyan was very helpful. Her lectures were straight forward and easily understood. She cares that students understand the concepts taught. The homework reinforces lectures and prepares you for exams. Also, her grading criteria is very fair. I enjoyed the class & recommend this instructor.
One of the better teachers I have encountered over the years. I would suggest sitting close. Her accent can make it difficult to hear what she is saying. Know how to do the homework problems and you should be good for the exams. Offered extra credit project. Let me make up missed quiz during office hours. Loves physics. Memorable for me.
She's a soft talker and the material isn't presented in a lively manner. If you struggle staying awake in lecture or listening through thick accents, I would not recommend her for you. You can't skip lecture because surprise quizzes do come up. Most of the difficulty comes from trying to learning despite her weak presentation skills.
She's like the head of the physics department and is on a crusade to convert everyone to a physics major. She definitely knows her stuff and is good in office hours. Took the time to learn our names (small honors class). Homework online via webassign. Graded tests generously. Material is difficult (very different!), and her lectures were meh.
Amazing person. Extremely skilled in the field, had incredible stories every class (randomly mentioned how Bohr was fat, we asked how she knew, she responded she met him. Very nonchalant). Class was hard if you don't remember calc or physics (like me) but I probably got the lowest grade in the class (easy A for everyone else). Great partial credit.
Best teacher ever!! Just do the homework before the tests because most of the test problems are from the homework. Sweet and caring lady who really cares about her students, helping them to succeed.
Mixes lectures with group work - solving problems on the whiteboard. Cares that the students understand the subject. Very understanding teacher.
Flitsiyan loves what she does and she cares so much about each of her students. Lectures are very thorough, likes deriving proofs and letting us try examples in groups. Honors classes usually have some group project. Grading scale is terrifying (96A, 95-90A-) but tests are usually very fair and she will take the time to review anything you need!
"Okay guys"
Lectures are very hard to learn from so be prepared to teach yourself. Go over the PowerPoint questions because the ones on the tests are similar . Office hours really helps your grade. Good professor overall .
Lectures are fulfilling and interesting. She knows the subject, respects the students, but relates to class, so expects a certain amount of respect back. Sometimes will go deep into derivations and will make simple notation mistakes, but if you point it out, will correct them. Take her for Phy3 if you care about the subject and also want to pass.
Dr. Flitsiyan is a very nice professor. She really likes what she teaches and she always tries to help students, including during exams.
Best professor you'll ever have for physics at UCF. She's really caring. She helps out during quizzes and tests if you don't understand what the question is asking specifically for. She does give quizzes based on material covered about every other week but as long as you review the material you should be good. Take her if she's available.
I really enjoyed Dr. Flitsiyan's summer section despite the weird circumstances involving it going fully online because of the ongoing global pandemic. She cares about her students a lot and as long as you participate, study, and put effort into the class you will definitely get the grade you want.
A nice professor who truly cares about her students and that you understand the material, however it is very hard to get in contact with her outside the class.
One of the rudest professors I have had. She has difficulties teaching online, and was very rude to us throughout the semester. She edited her syllabus multiple times, and was late to many classes, including our final exam. Exams only had 4 questions, and she would take off points for not doing math in the specific way she wanted.
First off, miss Elena is a very sweet lady and is a great person, however she is probably the worse professor ive ever had. Shes smart and all but she just cannot get through to students. if you want a deep understanding of physics, do not take her. she reads off slides word for word and seems to have no idea how to teach. its an awful experienc
Dr. Flitsiyan is very experienced, but just reads off slides and crunches numbers for 95% of the period. This makes it very difficult to learn the content from a conceptual perspective. As a physics major, the way she teaches is quite backwards and frustrating. It IS an easy class, but if you want to learn literally anything take someone else.
I cannot recommend Dr. Flitsiyan if she chooses to do Zoom entirely for an in-person course. She cares about her material and is a nice person, but the PowerPoint format did not work for the material. The Webassign homework seldom lined up with her teaching, but she and her TA were forgiving on the exams. Planned quizzes, only did one this semester
Flitsiyan was awesome! There wasn't much to be graded on but she made the tests very very fair compared to the awful homework. The lectures spent a lot of time on talking about concepts and how the math helped prove or explain the concept. As an EE major, she made taking that one last physics course a breeze compared to the first two.
Course consisted entirely of reading powerpoint slides. She has an accent and it makes it a little difficult to understand. If you have any questions about the material, she very vaguely answers them. She'll ask you if you understand, you can say no, and she will be even more vague.
Not the most animated lecturer but truly cares about students, constantly asks if students are understanding the concepts. However, she doesn't answer questions well and you might have to visit office hours for more help. Practice exams provided are similar to the real thing, some pop quizes, ~15 homework problems per week. Discussion helps a lot.
She seems like a really nice person but she is a horrible professor. Our lecture was only 50 minutes and she wasted so much time on proofs and simple problems that we never went over examples of the difficult problems we see on homework and tests. Anything I learned for this class I learned outside of class with friends or with the TA.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever taken. She has a thick accent so she is hard to understand during lectures and the combination of bad handwriting and standing in front of the board makes it impossible to take notes. Attendance is not mandatory but she will still give pop quizzes without warning. If you can avoid taking her, do so.
Showed little to no interest in addressing the student's conflicts during the summer semester. Possibly the most disorganized class I have ever experienced. It was almost impossible to contact her, and there was no communication on what material would be covered in the final, all the way up to the day before. Do not reccomend this professor at all.
If there's anyone else you can take instead of Ms. Flitsiyan I definitely would. She just reads off PowerPoints and expects people to memorize information. The combination of this being a beginner physics class (which I think she can't teach properly) and a shorter summer semester led the entire course to feel mismanaged right from the first week.
If I could give less than 1 star I would. WORST CLASS AT UCF. Not only does she not know how to use technology, she teaches terribly and does not know how to help anyone with questions. Exams are extremely difficult and all exam reviews are pointless. She is the head of the board of the PHY department, so trying to get some help is nearly impossibl
Don't take this professor. Doesn't say what content will be on the tests until the last minute, reviews are nothing like the exams. Lectures are useless and she often makes mistakes that she won't correct until you tell her 3 or 4 times. The language barrier makes this worse, you have to ask questions multiple times before she understands.
Exams are hard and don't bother with the exam reviews they have nothing to do with the exam. There are pop quizzes and she does not understand technology so we are going into the final without the other exam grades. The lectures are hard to follow and the PowerPoints have wrong formulas (if you can even read them) DO NOT TAKE.
Tests are nothing like the reviews and almost all of her power points had wrong formulas or wrong solutions to the examples. She tells students to ask questions and then talks down to students who ask questions since she thinks they are all very basic questions we should understand already. don't recommend taking if you're completely new to physics
She has an extremely heavy Russian accent and can't teach to save her life. You'll essentially have to try and teach yourself from her messy power point slides that are missing steps and are also very hard to understand. I'm currently working towards my second degree, and have never experienced a teacher this bad at her job.
Dr. Flitsiyan cares about her students, but her lectures were boring and difficult to follow, and her tests were VERY hard. She curved each exam 40% at least. I stopped showing up to class about halfway through the semester and taught myself out of the textbook, which worked better than listening to her lectures. Beware of pop quizzes, though.
You will not learn anything from this course or understand her at all as she has a very thick accent and the microphone does not help. She does offer zoom classes when I took her and does do pop quizzes. The grading criteria were unknown to me and felt random. You will pass if you try but you will have no clue why you passed.
Unequivocally the least organized professor I have ever had. Almost every single lecture she would teach would have something to leave you frustrated; whether its her letting her phone ring in its ENTIRETY during the lecture and talking over it multiple times a week, or different test forms that widely vary in accuracy to the practice test.
In my entire schooling career, I have never had a WORSE professor than this one. This class was single handedly the most frustrating and disorganized class I've ever taken. She barely manages to get through 1-2 questions per lecture before she forgets how to use her computer. She was so bad I wrote an official complaint against her. PLS DONT TAKE.
She would spend the entire class trying to open her computer to start the class lectures. During the first exam, she copy and pasted 60% of the practice exam problems onto one of the exams and designed new questions for the other exams, and guess who passed the first exam? Guess who didn't get the 60% practice exam advantage exam? Guess.
I could not understand anything she said during lectures and her powerpoints are just as confusing. Thankfully she gives out practice exams and exams themselves are unbelievably lenient to the point where I think failing is impossible. She will also help and even basically give answers during exams. Don't expect to learn much but it is an easy A/B.
Focuses on one topic during lecture while speeding through others, hard to understand. PowerPoints can be messy and lack solutions sometimes. Her exams aren't easy but she gives away the solution if you ask. During the final she gave us the equations to use for one question so we didn't even have to understand, just plug. Easy A, but u won't learn
Can't understand any of her lectures. Tests are extremely hard and nothing like practice exams. DONT TAKE!!!!!
She seems very passionate about the material but fails to share this passion with her students. Lectures were the most mind-numbing and disorganized thing I've ever seen. I feel bad for her because she seems to try, but people don't take her seriously due to her thick accent and technology ineptitude. Practice tests are nothing like exams.
She is passionate about the material but doesn't know how to share it with her students. I feel bad for her since she isn't taken seriously due to her thick accent and ineptitude with technology. She tries but is very disorganized with mind-numbing lectures and practice tests that are nothing alike the exams. I would go for someone else honestly.
Her lessons are messy. Any time a student asked a question she didn't answer, she just restated what the ppt slide said, not attempting to understand what the student asked. The first day of the second week she showed up late and spent the next 10 minutes of the 50 min class struggling to pull up the powerpoint. I did not go to another class.
Read the book, do all the problems that she specifically assigns (lecture examples, HW etc) and go to office hours when needed. Lectures were ok. Course was a little messy with moved deadlines but grading of exams was very lenient. Physics 1 is hard so give it your best and you will be ok, most people seemed to have passed this semester.
Smart and caring, but a bad professor. Lectures are frustrating and hard to follow, and the class was poorly paced. Exam versions were inconsistent. Online communication was nonexistant. Test 2 was moved up with minimal notice or accomodation. However, office hours are very useful. Make sure you have good study habits and can self-teach.
The professor and her TA were great! The course content is inherently complex, but partial credit on exams is generous.
Dr. Flitsiyan is such a nice professor and truly cares about her students. Notes: her exams were a bit off and there was A LOT of inconsistency in the class. Definitely was an experience, wouldn't take her again, but still would say hi to her as she tried her best. Very thick Russian accent and a bit hard of hearing. Free openstax textbook online.
Mrs.Flitsiyan was such a sweet prof, but the disorganized nature of her teaching was so hard to learn from. Her notes online were hard to read, practice problems were only done and explained in the short class, and the tests were either plug&chug (easy) or they were a nightmare. She curved everyone by around 2 letter grades.
had a bunch of fun
The lectures can be messy, but reading the textbook, doing practice problems, and using study aids like unstuck ai can help you succeed. Office hours are useful, so don't be afraid to ask for help.
She has a fairly strong accent but it's understandable enough. Class organization was a mess, we did not get to go through the whole curriculum. The TA was amazing, always helping students with questions. Her slides were messy and not the best for learning. Attendance is supposed to be graded but she never did. Lots of partial credit in exams
Dr. Flitsiyan is a great professor to take if you want a relatively easy A or an extremely easy B, but if you want to walk out of the class feeling like you learned something, you might want to reconsider. She's very unorganized and doesn't answer questions well.
I took the course over 6 weeks and was spending around 4 hours a day M-TR only doing physics. Between the lectures, discussion, and lab it was a lot of time. She was very understanding about the semester being short. If you go to class and somewhat pay attention to lecture & discussion period you will be fine. The TA's were helpful & amazing
I loved miss elena! shes the best professor ive had in a while and she cares a lot about her students. She does have an accent but she is clear enough. Homework is difficult but the exams are so easy. She never graded attendance.
you won't learn anything in this class but its an easy A or B A is a 90-100 B is 73-89 so wide range no pluses or minuses.
what a gem at UCF! she has lived such an interesting career and it was a privilege to have her. she literally met Neils Bohr. homework was time consuming but exams were easy. you are supplied with plenty of material to study and the grading scale is more than generous.
