Ms. Guolo obviously is passionate about this class and enjoys teaching. She makes sure that everyone understands information before moving on. She tells you what you need to study and really I cannot think of anything she could do better. I loved her class & would take a class of hers any day.

Great professor! She frequently cancels class or let us out early. Most classes were spent watching documentaries. She is enthusiastic about the subject and can be very funny. Although, she will get angry if you do not take her seriously. Study what she tells you too and do not miss class and you will receive an A. Also, only use her articles.

Guolo is an interesting teacher. She has lived in Italy and Turkey, and is very knowledgeable about her topics. A little difficult to understand her accent sometimes, but easy A.

I love Elena! She is such a great person. She is so nice, funny, and sincere about Turkish culture. I knew nothing nor cared to learn about Turkey prior to her class but got some insight. The class can be a little boring but she is entertaining. Despite her thick accent, she is very clear on what you will be expected to know. Easy tests! Take her!

Do all the readings and take notes! She loves discussions and she is very passionate. Her energy is contagious. She is such a kind and gentle lady, very knowledgeable, and with a great sense of humour.

Uses videos and Prezis. Makes everything pretty clear if you pay attention. She is extremely helpful with questions and any confusion you may have. Would recommend to anyone. Good teacher.

Elena was one of the best professors I've had. She's so funny and great and my whole class loved her. We all feel like a big family now. She's not too tough of a grader, just do the homework and pay attention in class and you'll do fine. She'll help you out if you need, just be nice and respectful of her.

Elena was honestly the best professor I've had at JMU thus far. Do what she says, study the material, and you'll get a good grade in her class. Participation is very important. Get to know her and it'll make your semester much easier. I'm taking her ITAL 101 class just to have her again :)

Good teacher. Very helpful especially if you go to her office hours. She always keeps class fun with her open discussions. She also tells funny stories that go with the lesson. You need to work for an A in her class.

Elena is amazing! She is a little disorganized but will tell you EVERYTHING to study on the two quizzes and NO tests besides a final. She is more than willing to help you out with extra credit at the end of the semester and gives extra credit to those who dont skip class. It definitely helps your grade. Most of the time I am not sure what is going on in class. She is a nice lady who has worldly knowledge but struggles to communicate efficiently with the class. Most of the class is papers and class discussion. I recommend it for an easy general education class.

If I could take her class twice, I definitely would. She is one of the funniest professors I have ever had. She cares about her students and is always sympathetic to any outside emergencies you might have. She always gives warnings before pop quizzes and rarely gives homework. She always has great stories to share. I highly recommend her.

Professor Guolo is not only a great professor, she is also a devout enthusiast of Turkish culture. Sure, she can be strict and picky at times, but she knows what she's talking about. I really enjoyed taking her class.

She is hilarious, although I don't think most students understand her humor. The class is easy, but is still really interesting. The movies and the Turkish current events were especially interesting. We read a book that is interesting enough, and had around 5 "pop" quizzes and a short paper.

Elena was a fantastic professor! If you get the opportunity to take her do it!!! She loves teaching and knows her information very well. She goes out of her way to make sure you will pass your quizzes and test. She makes class fun and enjoyable! There are quizzes, a midterm, and a final but outlines what you need to know before hand .

Finally a diverse class and a challenging professor! Take her, only if you participate!

Her class was truly enjoyable! I learned a lot. I didn't think I would learn this much through different means which are not scholars or political sources. She allowed such great dialogues that most students at JMU would never hear. Take her!

I love Professor Guolo. Knows her stuff and makes class fun. Participation is 15%, but the in class discussions are easy to talk in. Very interesting class, I'm always happy entering and leaving. Read the book and participate and you'll get a good grade.

She is phenomenal! She really knows her stuff and lectures are fun to attend because she has so much to teach. Her stories about her own experiences are helpful and interesting. Shows videos in class which should not be skipped.

Easiest class I've taken. Professor Guolo can sometimes come off as harsh and unfiltered, but she came to care about all of us and helped us to engage in funny and meaningful conversation. Learned a lot about Turkish culture and enjoyed every bit of it.

She is such an amazing teacher that allows you to express free expression and thought. I hate participating. This was the first class where I felt comfortable in doing so. Class was canceled a lot this semester, but the people complaining are the ones were so rude to her in front of the class when she even went out of the way to help them.

Great class. You just HAVE to do the readings, participation is a huge grade so if you don't come prepared you won't pass. She takes off points if you miss more than 2 classes (excused or unexcused), she does cancel class a lot so it's not as bad as you think.

Best language professor ever! Learnt more Italian in four months with her than in four years of Spanish at the high school. She's so caring and accessible and makes the class fun. Definitely take it!

I never had such a great professor. You need to work at home, but classes are fun, and she is so smart and hilarious. I wish she was teaching 102 next semester, and take her again.

She is a sweet lady, but this is not as easy class. Two papers, 4 quizzes, final project. And if you don't participate during class, your final grade will suffer. Not sure I would take again.

Probably the best option for humanities. Attendance is part of your grade but she is understanding so if you can't make class just communicate that to her. She loves what she teaches and tries to make it interesting. The readings are also pretty easy but don't leave them to the last minute. Participation in class is a big part of your grade

Elena is absolutely hilarious. You do actually have to do some work, but she makes it very manageable. Homework every week, study for like 15 min here and there throughout the week. Some quizzes, I think 4 throughout the semester and she would give us a heads up. Study a little over a longer amount of time instead of trying to cram last minute!!

Elena is a gem. Such a funny person and does her best to engage in her class. I thought taking a language in college was going to be the death of me but shes actually made it really easy and enjoyable. shes open to feedback from students and is very accessible to go over any material you need to. easy class for 4 credits with a great professor.

I was not planning on taking this class but man am I happy I did! She genially wants to talk about Turkey and have well thought out discussions with her students. We had easy assignments when we didn't have class. Tests were just self reflection on what you learned. She is passionate and super understanding. Highly recommend for easy gen ed.

I absolutely love Elena! She's such a great person and you can tell she really cares about her students. I took Italian as elective and I'm glad I did it. Maybe class was too early in the morning so most of us didn't respond too well and active participation was difficult, but she did an awesome job! Definitely recommended!

She was very clear when teaching and incredibly kind. She would tell stories about her life if they were related to the topic so we could understand better. Always willing to help and very understanding. Would definitely take her class again!

She tries so hard to make class engaging but no one wants to talk in class. She's so funny and this class is easy if you just show up. Tests are easy and there's not much material. The only reason I didn't like it was because the class wasn't engaged so I didn't learn anything. Felt like a waste of time but easy A, shes super sweet though

Prof Guolo taught HUM252 this semester half on zoom and then in person. She was stuck overseas during the first 1/2 of the semester. She's kinda unorganized and doesn't make sense, but her class is easy and interesting. She also cares about students and will excuse absences if you tell her why you won't be there. Solid choice and easy gen ed!

She wants people to participate but nobody talks. Pushes her political views a bit too much. She's very sweet and caring but SO unorganized. I couldn't even tell you what we learned about half the time. Take it because it's a very easy A but don't be scared if you have no clue what's happening 3/4 of the time. Accepts excused absences.

She is very nice and an easy grader. I am going to leave the class with minimal knowledge gained, but I am also leaving with an A, so I am not mad. Very simple.

Honestly a great teacher! She cares about everyone and will know you by name. She funny at times as well. Yes you have to put in the work, but thats just doing a couple hw's a week and understanding what you are doing. She is very very understanding. Definitely Take her. Love her!!!

Professor Guolo made learning Italian both fun and easy. This was a complete new language to me and I found myself becoming more and more comfortable thanks to her methods of teaching. There was also an unfortunate situation where we had a virtual zoom lesson in the beginning and I appreciated her efforts to teach us even when she was abroad.

Hands down the best class I took this semester. Elena is seriously so caring and so helpful if you put in the work and ask for help. Class was online the first half the semester but she seriously made the best of the situation and I still learned a lot even on zoom. She keeps everything organized and easy to access. Amazing prof and amazing person!

Very sweet woman!! A bit unorganized, and would spring work at the last minute a lot of times, but would grade fairly easy and only wished for students to gain some knowledge on Turkey. I definitely learned a bit here and there, and with attending every class, would consider it an easy A and easy gen ed.

Professor Guolo is seriously one of the best professors I've ever had! She may be unorganized at times, but it the workload is beyond manageable and she really cares about her students a lot. Honestly one of the only classes I have looked forward to going to this semester.

Elena is a great, lighthearted professor who takes the time to know all her students names. Gives weekly vocab quizzes that require studying but that's what we signed up for to learn a new language! She can be unorganized but she acknowledges that and she is VERY understanding of everyones circumstances. One of the best classes I've taken at JMU.

Professor Guolo is exceptionally kind and will make sure that all students who are willing to put forth effort will pass. Attendance is important and is the primary reason my grade wasn't an A. No textbook, so lectures are even more important than usual. Language courses are hard, but having a great professor like professor G makes it much easier!

She is so funny, this was my favorite class at JMU. This was her last semester, I wish I can take Italian 102 and many other classes with Elena.

Elena is the best! We were lucky enough to take her last class at JMU. We will miss her so much!
