Difficult to understand. Was not able to make things clear and did not like to entertain questions. It takes a certain kind of person to handle beginning chem students so if you struggle with this subject, avoid this woman.
You better know your stuff going in becuase you cant understand what she is saying. On top of that she dosnt handle questions well.
Too hard to understand....if you dotn like chem, dont even consider this lady. She has a harsh russian accent and you jsut dont want to be in this class
This teacher is NOT GOOD AT ALL. You can barely understand what she is saying and when you ask for help, she talks to you like you're an idiot. Her tests and quizzes are unclear... so many people don't do well on them and it's not because they don't study (they do), it's because this teacher is bad! Make sure you don't get her!
Useless, completely. She should NOT be teaching.
Hey guess what buddy, you're gonna fail
This course is waaay above freshmen level. Know your physics & quantum mechanics! But don't blame the teacher for HVCC decisions. She's a GREAT teacher. She gives you note-taking sheets, and she has "recitation" sessions for extra credit. She's well-organized and makes the information clear. Maybe those who complain just have low grades.
your gonna fail automatically
She's helpful and brings in interesting examples. You won't fail if you put in some effort. It is chemistry afterall.
she is tough
absolutely horrible. whatever you do dont take chem w/ her. You will def. fail!
she is incomprehensible!(partly because of her accent and her high pitched voice). most of the class is failing. i love chemistry. in high school my average was 98 in chem and physics. if you want to pass chem, don't take keesee.
You can barely understand ANYTHING that she says..which makes taking chem even harder. The only thing that saved me from passing the course was the 3 hour lab. On our 3rd test she said that the class average was a 58.8. It was horrible
First, if you have her, switch. I tried but there were no open seats in other sections. The onlty thing that saved me from failing this course was the labs. On the third test we took the class average was a 58.8. She didn't understand why. Other then her teaching she seems like a very nice lady I guess. Good Luck!
helps to have previously done well in chem
She means well but gets a little harsh if you get a bad grade. She hates giving people bad grades as much as you hate getting them. I agree that it is hard to understand her but if you come to class you will get used to it. Trust me i know better than any of you i am her daughter! She is nice though.
me agian she is a good teacher!
horrible teacher. doesn't explain things at all, and is hard to understand. does nothing to help with bad grades even when the whole class does poorly. switch to a different teacher if you want to pass chemistry or even understand it.
i understand if she is your mother and you want to defend her but you really need to understand that her teaching skills need to improve. i am a teacher and im also a straight A student. she should want students to perform well and learn the material. not keep confusing them and assigning more homework they dont understand.
i AM NOT TELLING YOU HER TEACHING IS PERFECT but it is definatly not the worst!I can easily compare her to other teachers considering in ways she teaches me. i also don't always want to stand up for her.
Very clear explanations. She wants you to understand how things are related. I got a lot from this class! She is nice and friendly too.
At first I was like OH NO!!!, but i quickly picked up her accent and was fine. If u can get her accent (not too hard) than keep her, she goes over material nicely and is very helpful.
One of the best science teachers I had.
PLEASE, I ADVISE YOU NOT TO TAKE HER
She is absolutely horrible. If you get her, switch immediately. Noone in my class likes her, let alone does good in her class. Her accent makes you want to wear earplugs.
I like her! Good teacher!
I did not know chemistry could be interesting.
I can't believe she is allowed to teach. She failed almost our entire class. She was nasty and rude to people in class and she makes you feel like an idiot. She needs to find another career because teaching is not her forte.
horible
I'm astounded to see that previous students have not enjoyed Dr. Keesee's class. Seeing that many students advise to switch out of her class was a real shock to me. She was nothing but great to my class and I. Her "accent" may annoy some, but she is an excellent professor. She loves chemistry, and her mastery of the subject is very clearly present.
I like the way she talks about chemistry! It makes it interesting, draws your attention. She is very helpful too!
GREAT TEACHER! Chemistry has always been my Achilles heel, but she really made the material clear and understandable. Expect to buckle down, 'cuz your in for A LOT of homework, which I hate to say, is all necessary. If your like me and the thought of chemistry makes you want to cry, she's your best bet :)
We are halfway through the year I have a B but that's only because I've been busting my butt with tutors and crazy amounts of studying. She is horrible, if you work hard to understand the material the test are not that bad but there r way to many questions on the test to complete them all in a 50 min time span the whole class agrees
Went to her for extra help because I genuinely want to learn the material, she made me feel so stupid so that was the end of that. The class is hard and it takes a lot of work for a decent grade. I would not recommend her to anyone I've literally had to devote myself and time to this class from day one can't wait for it to be over
Very good teacher.
I enjoyed her class very much. She was interested in the material as well as interested in assisting the students. Her accent may be hard for some to understand. I however, had no trouble. SHe made the class interesting and engaging. She was helpful in her lab sections as well. I would recommend her to any student.
Dr. Keesee is fantastic. I hate generalizing, but everyone who said she's a bad teacher is probably a bad student. Getting decent grades takes work, and Dr. Keesee wants to help you get there. She's passionate, and has been nothing but eager to help every student that wants it. If you're afraid of actually learning at college, quit.
This is a difficult course regardless of the professor. If you r are serious about your studies and our grades take this professor. She is not easy but wants to see you succeed and provides plenty of opportunities for her students to do so. She is passionate about the subject, has in interesting sense of humor and is very cute.
Excellent teacher for serious students.
Devoted far too much time and effort for this class to only receive a D. Very thick Russian accent, hard to understand at times. She is probably the toughest grader I have ever had. Does not offer partial credit, its all or nothing. Went for extra help to learn but she just solved the problem and handed me the answer. Does not explain things well.
Very tough course for freshmen. Im assuming she taught in her home country and expects american students to preform at their level when we were never really challenged to begin with. She just gives you the lab procedure and expects you to figure it out. Sure if you study hard you can get a passing grade , I'm just shooting for a c to avoid retakin
She's a tough grader. Her accent is only hard at first, but as you listen to her more and more, the problems clear up. Just pay attention and you should pass.
I think she's the worst chemistry "professor" any human has ever encountered. Take it from me and never take a class with her, never. Even if you have to take a Chem course and she's the only one around, please don't take it with her or you'll regret it for the rest of your life.
I had her for Chem 110 and now Chem 111. She has you write notes and goes very fast and as you're writing she asks questions, then gets mad when students don't answer the questions. Assigns a lot of homework for both lecture and lab
Dr. Keesee is a wonderful professor. She is very organized and processional. She seems to genuinely care about her students.
Gives way too much homework and is so set in her ways.
Great instructor! A lot of homework is a part of studying chemistry. I've learned a lot in her class.
Very professional and organized. Got me well prepared for 4 year school. Will gladly help students who try to learn. Loved her!
Her lectures make absolutely no sense. She flies through everything and doesn't give you time to copy anything down off of the slideshow. Her lab classes are even worse. DID I MENTION SHE DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AND DOESN'T ACTUALLY TEACH YOU ANYTHING? SHE DOESN'T TEACH YOU ANYTHING WHATSOEVER. HER HANDWRITTING IS NOT LEGIBLE. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
I'm not very good at chemistry, but she made it understandable and logical. I did better in her class than I expected. Very helpful Prof. I recommend her to everybody who wants to learn.
Long lecture notes that are taught at a fast pace. The textbook and mastering chem assignments are extremely helpful. Chemistry labs must be read prior to coming to class(also because pop quizes often occur on them). Labs are explained in an easy way to comprehend. Small class size is also great.
Clear explanations. Always to the point. Can be funny. Expects students to be prepared. Cares about students. Willing to help. Gives pop quizzes in a lab, but it's helpful.
It's hard to give her a bad review because she means well but she needs to really reflect on her teaching methods. She just wasn't easy to click with like she wasn't helpful in making the material clear. I feel like the tests were so different from the class work. Idk. She needs to change it up a bit, get people engaged in the material ya know?
Elena is a tough nut to crack. She seems to really care about students (or maybe she just likes nagging people), but she also is very strict and harsh with certain things. I think she was a bland professor. She didn't engage students or capture them in the love of science or anything like that.
Very serious teacher, although she does bring in special treats like cake to class frequently which was very nice. Her notes are organized and prepare you for tests well. She is very easy to get ahold of outside of class. The mastering chem assignments online are quite hard and are graded on how well you do on them. Challenging course overall
Keesee was an okay professor. Sometimes she is annoying and it feels like she is nagging you, but I think it's because she cares. She definitely could be a little more clear with some important concepts, but overall she was good. She brought cake in a lot which was cool.
Where should I begin? All I can say is that I will never think of taking her class again. If you show up late to lab, she'll embarrass the living hell out of you.
Nice lady, but her teaching style is very annoying. She will let the entire class know you were 5 minutes to lab and she is way too pushy. If leave one line blank she will give the entire report a zero AND she will have a talk with you about. Her lectures don't make sense and she assigns way too much mastering chemistry. Find someone else.
*all serious science majors should read this* A year ago I took Professor Keesees class. I was frustrated as I had never taken chemistry before. She hammers significant figures and is very serious. Now that I am taking CHEM111 Im thankful I had a tough professor like her. I learned a lot from her. She made chem111 that much easier for me
Evening class. 1st lab: had us drive to the building to pick up a piece of paper. Should've emailed. Wastes paper by printing. Labs consist of watching maybe two groups do a lab, while people stand around and socialize. Student asks:"Who is Le Chatelier?" Her reply: "I dunno.. Some scientist? A chemist?" Discusses TV and gym more than chem.
Excellent professor! I got a lot from her class! Cannot believe some negative comments posted here. I did see some people coming to the lab 20 min late, but don't recall Dr. Keesee trying to embarrass anybody. Highly recommend her to all serious students.
thick Russian accent, rude, doesn't care if you don't understand something and gets very upset if you ask a question. shes completely irrational. never again
I really enjoyed taking her class. All it takes is a little effort to pass the class. Communication is key if something comes up and you can't attend class, but DON'T miss the lab!
Really helpful instructor, cares a lot about her students, very supportive of people who study. Gives useful feedback. Don't try to cheat in her class! Great instructor and seems like a nice person!
Science is not my strong suit. I did what prof. Keesee told us to do, like homework, reading, extra credit, and I did well in class. Highly recommend her!
I wish there were more professors like dr. Keesee. Highly recommend.
I will not be taking another one of professor Keesee's classes again. She is very hard to understand sometimes and when you don't understand something she makes it a point to call you out and make you feel like you're stupid for not understanding. Tough grader and doesnt post grades until end of semester which makes it hard to know how youre doing
Dr K is a really sweet person but a really bad instructor. 50% of the class dropped, the labs were INSANE if you were off by .5 you had to redo it. There isnt really much preparation for tests, where you discover new things. Very hard critical thinking questions. Short tests. 10 multiple choice, 5 short answer. I have PTSD from lab.
Your basic Chem intro class turned into a simulated slaughter fest designed to filter out the weak. Homework is painful, and the labs even more so. Between the homework program online, how she grades, youll have about a slim to none chance of getting an A. Better take good notes, she will not give formulas on the final, and deletes them online
I have only good to say about prof. Keesee! She is a serious instructor who maintains college level standards, so students could transfer and do well. school. Chemistry is not easy for many students, but she offers a lot of help and is very supportive of people who study. Want an easy A - don't take chemistry, it's not such subject.
Why why why Dr. K doesn't teach orgo? I want to take orgo with her too!
Professor Keesee is the worst Professor at HVCC . She is very difficult to understand , her LAB WORK IS INSANE. She gave me a 0 on a lab that I worked so hard on because I didn't answer ONE question. So she failed me for the whole assignment. as to her claims that it was incomplete. She deducts points for everything. DO NOT RECOMMEND. DANGER ZONE
Tough teacher but was worth the work. Really learned a lot. You can ask for extra help and she will graciously take plenty of time with you if you need it.
Learned a lot. Made class enjoyable. Recommend.
The most organized online class! Not an easy subject but dr. Keesee is always willing to help. Several opportunities for extra credit. Examples and questions in lectures are really helpful and when you get it, you enjoy the class. I did!
Keesee was so organized and clear in her instructions and grading expectations. She assigned a lot of HW but there was always an opportunity to do extra credit to make up assignments or just for extra practice. It had been a long time since I had taken a Chem class and I ended up finishing the class with a 97%. Just do the work and it's an easy A.
A very good professor! As far as I know everybody who did homework got a good grade. She is always willing to help. Homework and tests have extra credit questions.
Great lecture packets and practice tests! Dr.Keesee will fo out of her way to help you.
Very organized hybrid class, clear lectures and instructions, helpful professor.
People in my class studied and all test averages were in high 80s and 90s. Do Dr. Keesee's practice tests, very helpful!
Great prof! I did better in Dr.Keesee's class than I thought I would.
I had problems with chemistry in the past but with Dr.K it's a different story. She relates chemistry things to ev eryday live and it makes it much easier to learn. Her lecture packets and practice exams are great! Do your homework!
Overall, Dr.Keesee was a good teacher. She was clear about the expectations and deadlines. She was also very willing to help you, you just had to put in effort. The only complaint I have is after the first test, she started going a few minutes past the time class was supposed to end, and it caused some attendance issues for me in other classes.
Dr. Keesee is a very nice person and professor! I definitely recommend her classes. They are very well organized (lecture packets, practice tests for extra credit, helpful videos online for some labs). Lectures include many examples. She is also very supportive and willing to help you. Do put an effort into studying - it's chemistry.
I don't have anything negative to say about Dr.K. She is generous in the way she grades and conducts her class. Her test are made fairly and aren't hard in any way. She gives practice test that add 5 points to your test if you score over a 60. Overall she's a sweet lady and i would recommend taking class with her. Labs and lecture felt stress free
Very pleasant to work with which is nice in a prof. Homework every week was helpful for preparing for tests. Printed lecture packets were also helpful just make sure you fill in the blanks to study with. If you review all material tests are straightforward. I would definitely take again, she was very nice and I learned a good amount of chem.
Really enjoyed her class! Got a better grade when I was hoping for.
I only had Dr. Keesee for lab. However, I will tell you that she is a kind-hearted Professor who cares about her students. The labs were very straightforward and I overall liked having her as my lab professor.
