She uses overheads, and is a bit scatter brained at times. She is always respectful to students. She allows comments and questions. She expects you to know everything talked about in class for her exams though!
Take her class, she is easy b/c she marks easy. She expects you to get ur paper done on time, exams are from her notes and text. she gives you questions for midterms and final. attendance is important b/c it will help you get an easy A. she helps and also very nice. easy A man.
She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to history and she is also very helpful. Her tests are easy and she does not expect any memorization of dates. Her lectures can be quite boring because she rambles on about information that is not in the notes but she shows a lot of maps and pictures in her power points which is cool!
One of THE MOST terrible professors Ive ever encountered. Extremely low talker. Can barely hear her. At times her pitch goes from high to low to medium.Writes extremely rude comments on exams if you get a question wrong.Gives WAY too many questions review for the exam.(you get a week to get the answers but if you work and go to school full time, good
She's very passionate about history, and it's infectious. She is charming and knowlegable, fairly generous when it comes to marking but not an easy A, as has been suggested. You are expected to know the material, obviously. Sometimes the lectures could use some variety or discussion.
Attendance is crucial for doing well. Lectures can be long/boring, but if you take the notes you will do great on the tests. She gives you the test before hand (she gives you 20 questions a week before test, and she will ask you 5 of them on the test) - she is very passionate about history.
Pretty easy course as long as you keep up with your readings and attend. The prof is fun and very helpful!
Lecture are boring, hard to hear most of the time. Quizzes are given randomly so attendance is mandatory but most of the class zones out.
Elena is a very reasonable marker. Provides students with review guides on roughly what will be on her big tests. Very soft spoken with a light Russian accent, so she can be hard to hear or understand if you are in the back. Does a very good job on summarizing key points in the textbook during her lectures. PPT slide she posts online.
This is my second class with Elena. Really enjoy her - attendance is mandatory but she is really enjoyable. She gives you a very clear study guide for the exam. She is extremely helpful outside of class for additional help. Highly recommend elena!
She seems like a really good prof. Her powerpoints are good, but it is hard to keep up when trying to write ppt notes and what she is saying. She is easy to listen to, but be careful of zoning out. It's easy to do because of her accent. I recommend her though!!
She is very passionate about history. Her lectures are interesting. As long as you do the textbook reading in addition to attending every class and taking notes, you will do well. I recommend!
Very boring and difficult to understand
Talks super quiet, hard to hear. Often goes on irrelevant tangents and never uses textbook. Has unrealistic expectations of students without actually teaching anything, powerpoint notes are useless. I may as well read the textbook and never attended class, if she hadn't kept attendance records.
Overall, great and humble person! Totally respect her a 100%. Loves her job and really passionate. Although, really, really, REALLY, POOR teaching quality. If you have a short attention-span, she's definitely not for you! Has a strong accent and soft speaking. Just speaks for hours and hours straight. You'd get bored! Didn't really learn anything.
I recommend getting a seat near the front, as she speaks quietly. She listened to and addressed questions and concerns students had, which I appreciated. She made the course material relevant so you don't feel like you're learning random facts about things that happened once upon a time, but you actually get to think about how they apply today.
Speaks quietly and is often hard to understand because of her Russian accent. She is a sweet lady but lectures seem to drag, especially at 8 am. I really enjoyed the class, however, and she was incredibly fair on the exams and gave the questions beforehand. I totally recommend her!
? ??? ?????? ??! Elena was one of my favourite profs of all time. She gave the most interesting perspective into the material we covered in class. She was passionate and I loved every minute of her class! The exams were awesome, she gives you so much time and help to prepare. I would LOVE to take another one of her classes.
Elena is a very nice person and is very knowledgeable, however she does not know how to project her voice and is VERY DIFFICULT TO HEAR, her inability to convey her points in a clear and concise manner also makes her lectures EXTREMELY BORING. She pretty much gives you the midterms and final exam in her review package which is a huge plus.
A very passionate, and respected woman! She posts her lectures online but she goes into the detail you'll want for your tests in class. She makes class interesting, she even brought in Russian candy and pop for us one day! Her exams are clear and fair. She is understanding and will help those who want it. I would definitely take her class again!
Elena is really nice and obviously very passionate about history but not the best of professors. Always willing to answer questions but her answers are rarely clear and concise. The first graded assignment is the midterm and it turns out that she is a hard marker - expects a lot of detail in the short answer questions that you wouldn't know.
Great Prof, She Really knows her stuff!!! I have taken 2 courses that she has taught, even seeking out her classes. She is also not a hand holder, but is a great attention grabber. Participation is key she expects you to be involved in conversation and 10% of your final grade is based on how much you have participated. Loved her class.
Loved Elana's class she is very specific and knowledgeable, and as a history major her depth and nuance is interesting and appreciated. She emphasized social history and this was a welcome departure from some other courses.
Powerpoints are really basic so you'll need to take notes from her lectures to supplement them for the exams. Really enjoyed her lectures though. Study guide is really useful but borders on being overwhelming. Designated class discussion days are spread throughout the term but they really aren't that effective. Mandatory attendance for these days
Elena is a wonderful professor but you should definitely attend the lectures. Her power points are all available online so don't bother writing them down, but WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING SHE SAYS THAT ISN'T ON THE POWER POINT. If you do this then you can get an easy A in her class. She gives the midterm and final questions ahead of time. Wonderful prof!
I loved this class, The material is very interesting and the lectures are fun. She is a very soft talker, meaning sit near the front if you are hard of hearing. Her subject knowledge is undeniable. Her flip side take on the topics is very different, but awesome, way to learn.
Krevsky is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. She is very skilled at starting productive and fascinating class discussions. She is a fair marker and put the exam question pool on BlackBoard in advance. The exams weren't a breeze but as usual, if you study you'll do well! Lectures were awesome & she really seems to care about her students.
Elena is a sweetheart. She is passionate about history for sure. However, she is very unorganized & soft spoken, and often goes off topic for entire classes. She also does not give clear instructions as to what she expects with her assignments.
-Approachable -Very fair- willing to extend assignments/papers if reasonable -Participation is important- won't embarrass students in front of the class -Expectations are sometimes unclear -Very strict about formatting (Chicago Style) -Difficult to hear at times during lecture
Very helpful and gave me a second chance on an assignment- just communicate with her. Her lectures are long but to the point. Take notes and that is how you will pass. No blackboard, some groupwork and average essays/ exams. She is clear on what she looks for in assignments and gives detailed feedback. Participation in class discussions counts.
Friendly and enthusiastic. Gives midterm and final questions before hand. Be sure to answer questions with specific details. Very soft spoken, but not a problem if you sit near the front. Genuinely cares about student's success. Be sure to write EVERYTHING down that she says, it's all relevant to the midterm/final. DO NOT just depend on her notes.
I really liked taking Elena's class. She is a very good instructor. The course was not too difficult.
One of my favourite professors! Very sweet and always willing and happy to help. Also very passionate about the topics she teaches.
She is a very nice lady and is passionate about the material. The class was really interactive though and had a lot of mini assignments. Her slide notes are very vague and you should not depend on them to learn the material.
Attending class is a must. If you attend you will pass no problem. Gives good lectures, lecture slides are vague so taking notes in class is a must. Passionate about the subjects, very caring and will work with you. This class has quite a few in class assignments but they are easy, then just one final research paper, mid-term and final.
She really cares about her students. She gives good feedback on the assignment and marks easy. There are a lot of assignments and quizzes and her test are pretty easy but the lectures are dry. Her test consists of short answers in which she provides the questions before& chooses out of them, so they are no surprises. Her final is has an essay + SA.
She gives a list of about 18 questions before the midterm and final and picks 4-5 of them for you to answer. Her accent isnt too bad but it does seem like everything she says is one long sentence, but try to listen and write down everything she says. She grades on how much you remember. Super helpful in office hours too, wants you to do well
Dr. Krevsky is a really nice prof who desperately wants her students to succeed. It's important that you show up to lectures because her slides are barren and note taking is the only way to make it. She gives the exam questions so you know exactly what you have to prepare for. I would absolutely take her as a prof again.
A nice person but very hard to listen to and very hard to learn things from as the class gets boring easily, she also isn't great at helping when you have questions and the notes she gives you during class are not helpful later on when studying for tests. Would not take a class with her again.
Nicest lady ever. She is so understanding about everything including missing a deadline or emailing papers instead of hard copy if need be. She is super caring and wants everyone to succeed. Easy marker, but tends to not remind students of deadlines.
If you want an easy A or B Elena is a solid choice. Although there is lots of reading and pop quizzes, she grades very easy and does not deduct large marks for no reason. However her lectures can be incredibly monotone so bring a pillow!
I think the class would be hard to teach, without possibly offending someone about their our ancestors difficulties, and she was really good about how she talked about events that happened. If you asked for help, she would help, no problem. I think our class was great, because she also encouraged us to discuss the readings.
Elena is a solid choice among the history profs at Macewan, if she sees that you care about your grade in her class she'll help you get to where you need to be. Her lectures can sometimes get monotonous, but if you pay attention she's actually quite hilarious. Some of the topics covered can be polarizing, but she presents them very respectfully.
Dr. Elena Krevsky was an incredible professor! She was reallt passionate about the subject she taught and she really wanted people to succeed In the class. She also took the time to learn everyones name. Although there are quite a few mini papers you have to write she lets you chose the ones you want to write on off a list. 100% would recommend!
As a science student, i was required to take her course. Wish i didn't... wasnt easy to listen to, wasnt the nicest to her students. If you didn't see it her way, you were wrong.
Elena is a very kind lady, it is clear that she cares about her students and how they do in her class. Her lectures can be boring, but assignments are relatively clear and not too difficult. Her exams are all written response though so you will have to study hard and know your stuff but questions are reflective of what is talked about in class.
Interesting as first, and get really boring. Feel like she is teaching herself. You have to follow her thought, but she said write what ever you want to write.
Really hard to follow her because of her accent. Powerpoints are so vague and textbooks are not helpful - relied more on google to pass this class. lots of assignments!! Midterms and finals - short answers and an essay - no multiple choice. Definitely not a GPA booster
I enjoyed this class more than I thought that I would. We had to do 5 readings and discussions, a response paper, an essay on the novel Hadji Murad, readings in the textbook, a midterm and a final. Elena provides the class with possible questions for the midterm and final (all of it is written). Average difficulty and somewhat enjoyable.
Elena is a solid prof. She gives you the questions in advance for the midterm and final. Ignore the powerpoints in class and write down everything she says instead, then write down the powerpoints later, get extra info from textbook to pad notes. She's a fair marker and tries to give you marks where she can. Do the above and the class is easy.
Elena is a great prof. She is willing to make sure that students understand the topics discussed. Her exam practice questions are very similar to her midterms/finals so be sure to do those. The only negatives about her class would be her lectures being a bit boring, as well as pop quizzes. Other than that she was a pretty good.
She does have an accent and it is hard to follow sometimes. Lectures were got boring and it didn't help that it was a 3 hour lecture. She's a very nice professor and truly wants her students to succeed. Not an easy A or GPA booster, but if you get past the difficulty she's a great professor.
Dr krevsky is wonderful! She is very kind and was extremely understanding and willing to help when i had to get my finals deferred. She explains the material well and elaborates on topics (which is needed in history). so this class is lecture heavy, as most history classes are, but she makes it fun and engages with her students.
I highly recommend going to class, she gave lots of chances to get easy marks but you have to be in class to get those. It's a great class with a great professor if you love history, she gives great advice and responds quickly to emails. If you have a genuine interest in history her knowledge will truly help you and give a good foundation.
This class was on socialism and the soviet union. It was very interesting and showed lots of different perspectives on the issue, I would highly recommend. Elena was very informative as she personally experienced socialism in Russia, very interesting. It could be hard if you have no previous knowledge but she is helpful. Exams and essays were fair.
I've had her twice now, once in person and once online and both times she was amazing. She doesn't assign too much work and gives great feedback. Even when you answer a question wrong she helps you learn and doesn't mock you. She is extremely knowledgeable and makes every topic interesting. If you have the chance to take her class do it!
Elena is a decent prof. Would I ever take a class with her again? Probably not. Wish she added better feedback to her grading. Also, was not a fan of the pro-Soviet and pro-Stalin attitude she took in class. It is definitely not ok to say one of historys greatest dictators who killed millions wasnt that bad lol
I was in her class in winter2021, optional zoom meetings on Mondays, quizzes every week (worth 2 marks). For an intro class, its content heavy. Her marking is quite tough because it's weird, her outline is inaccurate and what she looks for is NEVER clear and you will lose marks easily. She's a really nice person but I wouldn't take her again.
Dr. Krevsky is a fantastic prof who is incredibly friendly. She was extremely helpful and presented the course material through online videos posted online and assigned textbook readings. Her interest and passion for the topics made me enjoy the class so much more! I looked forward to her non-mandatory Zoom lectures every week!
Dr. Krevsky is a solid choice, 75% of material is based on her pre recorded lectures. Doesn't provide a concrete marking rubric before exams but is not a very hard maker. Weekly short quizzes (150words). Provides all materials and info for term paper(1200words). No live lecture for online class - one optional zoom meeting only. Quick to respond.
As far as online classes go, Dr. Krevsky was very helpful. She gave weekly quizzes that summarized the weeks lessons which were easy and made outlines for exams. If you put in the time and effort with the readings from the textbook and lectures, it's an easy A. The only downside is that her grading criteria isn't clear.
She has little to no rubrics for her assignments so her grading is quite unclear from the beginning. This course is very content-heavy and you need to be prepared for the fact that every test, midterm and final are all essay questions - there is no multiple choice. I think she could have tried to make it more engaging and enjoyable for students
She is accessible out of class, but her grading is very unclear and contradicts her instructions. Her expectations are that of a 400 level course, and the work load is unreasonable. The text is awful, her lectures can be disorganized and difficult to follow. I wouldnt recommend. She is better for senior courses not intro courses.
Dr. Krevsky was extremely unhelpful with all questions and emails I had sent her. She took more than 2 days to answer my emails. Instructions for assignments were very unclear and the way she graded contradicted all of the requirements for her class. Would recommend not taking any of her classes.
She seems like a very nice teacher, and is very passionate about the content but she is a very quiet speaker and has a very thick accent. I could barely understand her even in the front row. I use a recording device as apart of my accommodations and then it could barely pick up her voice.
Dr. Krevsky is nice and caring. She is has a soft voice and a small accent, but it isn't a problem. Her assignments are very typical. Summary assignments require reading but are easy. She gives a lot of flexibility with essay topics. Her lectures are interesting. She likes student opinions and makes it a relaxed, comfortable environment to talk.
Really good, just gotta research a bunch of topics for midterms
Elena is a generous grader, esp if you put in visible effort on assignment.. Some have mentioned that she 'doesn't follow her own criteria'; this isn't true: she actually leaves a lot of room for students to approach the assignments. Her accent and soft voice can be difficult, but otherwise a great prof! Just wish classmates participated more.
She is super nice and super sweet. When you are actually putting in work and go to her office hours, it's super easy to get good grades. If you don't understand, email her and she will reply within 24 hours. If you need help writing essay, research paper etc, she helps you on what you are struggling with.
Research essay, exercises, + chap summary. Stalinism, Edo + Indus Rev. Krevsky is kind + grades generously, just follow clear criteria's, know the readings or ask her for guidance. Emails + grades quickly. Everything is written, the midterm and final have long answer questions given b4 hand. Final has an essay, question given b4. Would take again.
Really tough grader. She would give basically no feedback and then tell you to write in Chicago, link the macewan Chicago style guide and then say, "You did it wrong" and expect something different not included in the macewan guide, but then not help you figure out what she wants. She was a fun lecturer, though.
She grew on me over the semester, her Russian accent is hard to understand at first but gets easier. As long as you show up to class and listen you'll do good. Provides exam Qs beforehand. Has a few little assignments and a short essay that break up your grade, she is an easy marker if you put in the effort. Genuinely the sweetest lady.
She is a very nice and kind woman. Her lectures are very interesting and engaging. She can occasionally as well provide fun assignments. Unfortunately I found in my personal experience that the assignments are all over the place. Due dates were unclear (as they were changed often) and instructions could be incredibly vague.
She unfairly docks marks simply because they are accommodated exams. She is incredibly scattered and goes off track during her lectures and her accent is quite difficult to understand. The writing assignments that were given were unrelated to the course. Although I did find her to a lovely person to interact with, I would not take her class again.
Elena is a nice professor. Her accent is a little hard to understand but over the semester you get use to it. Attendance is mandated as she does have pop quizzes and exit slips without warning. Provides questions before exams, also all of her exams are handwritten. She is also an easy marker if you put in the effort.
Very funny and sweet lady, cares for the subject. Her lectures are majority her talking with notes that aren't descriptive. Attendance is mandatory if you want to understand the events learned, she does explain things well.Very few tests, a couple extremely easy handwritten pop quizzes and a midterm and final that consists of easy questions.
Elena is one of the most wonderful profs I have had in my experience, she is able to adapt to certain circumstances when it comes to personal issues. She is one to give questions and topics beforehand but it is vital you attend classes to hear what she says about the slides, since the slide information is not enough detail to answer the questions.
Dr. Krevsky is an okay history teacher. She is definitely the reason I will not be continuing in history. She does not give good advice on papers and is unclear with the grading criteria. She is sometimes very unorganized and hard to follow. Her lectures are dry and hard to sit through. She is good though if you want to learn about Soviet Russia.
Elena is very caring and facilitates excellent class discussions- she truly values everyone's opinion. She was very helpful through email and her office hours. There were many choices/options for assignments, so you didn't need to love the whole course to read/write about something interesting. I feel very lucky to have had her as a teacher!
she is very sweet lady. i'm not a person who's usually good at writing but i found she provided clear and helpful guidelines that allowed me to do well in the class. the only thing is that i found she'd provide only one small correction on assignments (like a grammar mistake) but dock you 15% for it. otherwise i enjoyed her as a professor
She gets to know all her students' names, she is extremely caring and respectful. Hard to stay awake during her lectures, never sure what is important for the exam and what is just her telling a story. She likes pop quizzes. She's a tough grader. She loves teaching and enjoys her time doing the lectures. She calls on you, participation is important
Lectures are extremely tedious and lack any organization or coherence, but attendance is worth 10%. There's very little material provided outside of them, making it impossible to study or excel. Assignments are unrelated to the course, and feedback is nonsensical. If you receive accommodations, you'll be met with ableist comments and harsh grading.
She is super nice and caring. Very passionate about history, and as a result, her lectures can become confusing because she jumps around so much throughout history that they become incoherent. As well, we spent a lot of time focusing on specific people and events only for it not to show up on the midterm or final. Expects a lot but lacks detail.
