She taught how to do problems the wrong way, and then when someone brought up that it was wrong, she acted like the whole class was at fault for not correcting her. Very disorganized with the TAs; students were not able to take quizzes or exams in certain sections and were able to get a week extra to study. The examples were pretty straight forward
Made the material for this class relatively easy to understand. I can understand how she might not be the best teacher for large Math 12X classes but for the smaller Math 308 class she was great. Exams are fair. She doesn't assign too much homework. I recommend taking her class if you are looking into either MATH 307 or 308.
She's a very nice lady but pretty disorganized. She is somewhat difficult to understand and her writing can be very completely illegible at times. I would not recommend taking her if other profs are available. She has an awesome TA named Jihwan though!
I can tell Elena was trying to teach the class the material but most of her students didn't understand. Sometimes, her writing confused me and when she was trying to teach a new section, I got confused at some times. I recommend choosing another prof unless you want a challenge learning the math material. But I agree, Jihwan was awesome!
Very good math teacher, she gets the point to and although some people might not like her is because they dont study, she gives out exam reviews with specfic problems to try and most of them come on the exam so if you study her exam review sheets youll do very well
Dr. Pezzoli was a great prof! Yes sometimes her lectures were boring, but she always made sure we were prepared for her tests. Just make sure you go to lecture because she often does example problems that end up being on the test.
Very sweet lady who tries extra hard to make math fun. If you sit towards the front you can hear all of her quirky asides. hw is the same for all sections but her tests tend to be easier than the other teachers'. She spends most of class time doing example problems and does them pretty slowly to ensure everyone understands. try and get a good TA.
HER LECTURE IS NOT HELPFUL AND I HAD THE WORST TA EVER..
Great teacher. I wanted to drop after the first class because we started on chapter 10 and her accent bugged me. But the second day of class and on I loved her. Helps a ton with tests, just pay attention in lecture! I asked her a question almost every day after lecture and she was always very helpful and extremely nice. I had a terrible TA got
Attended lecture for the first few weeks and could not stand her teaching style. Her handwriting was hard to follow and her examples made little sense. I simply stuck to the book and homework to learn. Concepts were very hard to understand and get across. TA was not helpful either. I would not recommend.
She's the nicest professor ever!! I didn't do very well in Math 124, but I'm doing VERY well in Math 125. She's crystal clear, and super willing to help. Her midterms are easy to ace, I definitely recommend her. But don't forget- YOU MUST STUDY! It's easy to do well- as long as you study!!!
She is one of the best math professors I have had. She seems to really care that her students learn the material, and tries to identify the concepts most students have problems with. Absolutely recommend her.
Office hours are invaluable! She will help you with ALL of the homework if you need it. Lecture was very related to the textbook. The book was fantastic, for a math book, and pretty easy to follow (Read it!). Most math courses have terrible books, but this one was good and useful. Lots of practice midterms/finals with solutions. NotManyCurveBalls.
Best math teacher I've ever had! She is wonderful at explaining concepts, and can explain things multiple ways. Super nice, easy to approach for help. Her accent is fine, though her handwriting is kind of weird. But as long as you are listening it's easy to know what it says. Her tests are not crazy hard, and she does tons of example problems.
Even though I basically taught myself out of the book, I really enjoyed Pezzoli's teaching style.
Probably the easiest math prof in UW. Midterms look almost exactly like practice midterms. Bad thing is that she weighs hw pretty heavily so you really have to find answers on Facebook groups. I think she's pretty nice. Handwriting is kind of weird... a & e, i & l look no different.
Very easy professor, but effective. Her midterms are a breeze, but somehow she still manages to prepare you well for the final exam (written by hard and easy professors alike). Definitely recommend her!
I really enjoyed having Dr. Pezzoli! She is very knowledgeable and teaches the concepts in a very sound manner. I think her midterms weren't too bad. Unfortunately, I don't think they prepared us for the final very well. Nevertheless, I really liked her and recommend taking a class with her!
Great teacher! She made us awesome notes sheets that showed techniques for evaluating all of the convoluted integrals that were in the class. She admitted that she makes mistakes and invited us to correct her, something I haven't found too often in a college professor. Midterms were easy, and I think they prepared us well for the final.
Pezzoli is a very good teacher for this course. She understands that students have other homework and extended deadlines. She told us in class that the homework assignments were more difficult than the midterms. It was true. Only things in lectures were ON the midterms. And she even discussed final topics before the test. Great professor.
She is crystal clear in lectures. Examples are helpful for understanding concepts. Exams are much similar to homework problems. Take time to do homework, attend sections and be careful about the final, then you will be fine.
She uses an overhead which put me off at first. She does the problems ahead of time which is nice compared to other professors I've had. Only complaint is her thick accent and oddly written letters and words that make it hard to understand what she is saying.
Good: She's pretty good at explaining all the concepts and doing problems. Her tests are very easy and straightforward, meaning you can usually finish them in less than half the time she gives you. Bad: She makes a moderate number of calculation mistakes, which is kind of bad for a matrix algebra class.
Not a very good professor, doesn't teach the subject as much as just works through problems with little explanation, very difficult to learn from.
she has a relatively thick accent which made it difficult for me to pay attention in class. Her handwriting is pretty messy and her work is unorganized. Other than that she is helpful outside of class and her tests are fairly easy if you study. You can learn most of the material online from her posted notes.
She is a good math professor, but her accent and writing can be confusing and cause issues. Her final was more difficult than the midterms. her homework was easier and she gave less of it than other math professors I've heard She is so helpful though, definitely go to her office hours or the math study center!!
I didn't know what to expect with this class, but I really enjoyed it thanks to the professor and textbook. She was extremely helpful and the textbook was very useful in this class. I highly recommend this professor!
Very helpful. Not only has office hours but virtual office hours as well. And she still has time to reply to emails any time.
Her notes are inaccurate (example: if you had a problem such as 2x-35, she would minus the 3 and not add it in), she skips steps in solving equations which makes it very confusing to follow along. She is helpful in office hours. Not a great teacher, would not recommend.
Dr. Pezzoli's class was incredibly fair and well-structured. Her lectures always prepared you perfectly for the exams; every midterm and final review went over problems that were extremely similar to what you would expect on the tests. Explanations of concepts were very clear and patient. Very helpful in office hours.
Pezzoli is the sweetest professor ever. She's very intelligent in mathematics and also basically tells you exactly what type of problems will be on the exam. To get a good grade, do your homework because it's the best practice and just review her Midterm Review Lecture and your golden. Love her so much. Would take again.
Pezzoli is a great professor! She tells you what kind of problems will be on the midterm and finals, so going and reviewing her midtermfinal review problems are a must. Also go to class and section and always do the homework. She's very good at explaining and has four hours of office hours a week. Sometimes its hard to understand her accent.
Test averages hovered around 50-60% so that's pretty low, but if you're not so great at math like me, then it's actually a blessing since the curve is very generous. HW difficulty varied from week to week, but required a few hours of your time. Pezzoli's notes are very unclear though, so don't rely on those instead of going to lecturequiz section.
Honestly, I wish I could have her for all of my math classes. Midterms and final went great because she would go over the specific kinds of problems that would be on the midterms and finals immediately before we took them and gave tons of practice problems that were very similar to what were actually on the exams.
Lectures can be confusing sometimes, but she's always happy and able to answer any questions, though her answers may not always be clear. Tests will make you think a bit further than what class material has taught, but she's very generous with grading. Her TAs were also very helpful this year.
She is helpful, and she curve the exam. As long as you putting effort to this course, your PGA would be fine.
Lectures can be confusing sometimes because of her accent, but she's always able and willing to answer any questions. The homework will take a lot of your time, but it will really help when exam time comes and surprises you. Tests will require you to know more than the class material, but she's very generous with grading.
Just a fair warning! Has awful handwriting, like so unbelievably bad you won't be able to follow her notes at all, even if you think you're good at it. Accent isn't that bad though. Don't take her class if you just want to review her notes, all her letters look like other letters.
Really bad professor. She just stands there and points at things with her laser pointer. Math should be done in front of class, as you're explaining. Nope... Just stands there with a Word doc full of calculations that have been prepared beforehand, and just talks, and talks, and talks. Should not be teaching at all. Relied on my TA for EVERYTHING.
Despite what people may say, her accent is not bad. Her handwriting is terrible. Her lectures are pretty boring and not engaging, and can be very confusing. She often skips over important slides too quickly. Lots of homework, which is often quite difficult. The tests are slightly more difficult than homework, but still doable.
The worst professor I've ever had. All she does is point with her laser at the slide and basically say "this goes to this so that goes to that". Math should be done step by step. She also just drones on and on and repeats herself, and her accent is hard to understand. Handwriting is atrocious as well. Try your best to get a different professor.
She does not go step by step but clicks through slides, and she has terrible hand writing so it is hard to follow. You do not miss much from lectures because she is hard to follow. It is a hard class
She is a pretty good professor. I am really poor at math, but she teaches with patience so that I can easily understand her. Homework is definitely helpful, sometimes is heavy, but you will finish it, so no worries. Overall, she is a good professor I think.
Go to class and read the textbook or you will struggle. Also, be aware that Dr. Pezzoli has an Italian accent, so if accents are hard for you to understand she may not be the professor for you. Personally, I found her easy to understand.
At first I found her accent and handwriting very difficult to understand, but I got used to it after a few weeks and could understand her just fine. The only issue is going back through lecture slides is difficult bc of her handwriting. Lectures are a tad dry as well. She tells you almost exactly what's on exams though, which is incredibly helpful.
Once you get used to her accent her lectures are very easy to follow. Very friendly professor who is helpful outside of class. Exams are easy if you pay attention - all of her practice questions are almost identical to what you are given on exams and in review sessions, questions similar to what will be on the exam are always covered.
Dr. Pezzoli is a great professor. She is very accessible outside class and actually cares a lot about your learning but she has a strong accent, so it might be little hard to follow her lecture. Her tests are comparatively easier than other professors. Make sure to start preparing for the final early because it is a lot harder than the midterms.
Pretty heavy accent but very approachable outside of class. Tests are relatively easier to other professors but ALL professors come together to craft the final so be prepared for a harder final. Handwriting is impossible to decipher - so take your own notes. TAs/quiz sections were extremely useful
Professor Pezzoli is very sweet! It took me a little while to adjust to her teaching style, but once I got used to it I learned a lot. In class she's really good about explaining things in depth, and if you don't understand still she's very helpful in office hours.
Couldn't understand her accent and couldn't decipher her handwriting. Only survived because of the lecture slides another professor posted. Course material was easy to learn, but application on the tests was whack.
Her accent was a little strong and handwriting was bad at first but I got use to it after a while. Her examples from class are similar to the hw we do or her midterms. Overall she isn't that bad. She isn't as good as Loveless but she does a decent job at teaching and prepares you well for the tests.
She has an accent and writes her a's as e's but she's very adorable.
Ms Pezzoli is a great professor! Her lecture was clear and sensible. Especially I love that she teaches kind of slowly, so that it's easy to catch up and understand. Review sessions before midterms are really useful. I would love to take her class again.
her old midterms seemed really easy but this quarter they became much harder. I'm not sure why but I don't think the ratings on here conveys the difficulty of her class now. Her notes are really unorganized and confusing. Had to SNS the class... if you have a background in calc it might be an easy A but I wouldn't suggest taking it
She said the best way to study for her exams was to look at her old midterms and her old midterms seemed super easy but this year she pulled a 180 and made the exams super hard and I had to fight for points with my ta because her grading criteria was super strict. She puts unnecessary confusing word problems but the average is still pretty high.
Her midterms now are nothing like her old midterms, so it was a slap in the face to everyone when we studies her old midterms and got midterms that were much more difficult. She is a nice person but what she reviews in class doesn't prepare you for the exams. Be ready to study a lot.
Calc 124 was an insane amount of work and the material was really challenging, but Pezzoli is a great teacher. She teaches the material with a logical linearity and doesn't skip small steps, so I could always follow step by step. The amount of homework was insane, but I learned a ton and it was entirely due to her clear teaching. Very grateful.
Honestly the content was hard cause this is a weed-out class, but Pezzoli wasn't a bad teacher. However, she is a bit dry and her lectures are super long and boring. I didn't go to the week before the midterms and final and I still manage to get a 3.8 in the class. Also, look at EVERY past exam of hers because her style of questions never change.
She has an accent and her handwriting is kind of sloppy. Her lectures are straightforward and explain everything that you need to understand for the tests. The tests are not too hard and are directly based off the lecture and homework materials.
Absolutely loved her! Straightforward lectures and very helpful. Helped students prepare for the test as well. Would love to take her again!
Pezzoli may be really boring in class because all she does is give a lecture, but if you go to her office hours, she's very helpful and caring. Overall, she's a quiet, kind, old lady who doesn't have unrealistic expectations of students. I straight up told her I didn't know how to do the webassign and she coached me through it.
Worst math teacher ive had. She has a accent but thats not the issue, the issue is shes horrible at explaining problems. The material itself isnt hard to learn if you just teach it yourself. Probably a nice person but seriously a bad teacher. Try to get loveless as your prof.
Pezzoli is the nicest professor and really tries to help you understand topics out of class. However, tests are NOTHING like past midterms or homework and there's no good way to study in this class. You either really really know what's going on or you don't.
She explaines things clearly. The difficulty of tests is fair. If you put effort, then it is not hard to get good grades. Moreover, she is a really nice person.
She's a very nice professor, especially helpful in office hours since you get one on ones on specific HW help or issues on understanding concepts, but she is really HARD to follow in lecture and gets very confusing with her notation. However, her midterms are fair game and aren't too hard. Practicing her old midterms can help you for sure.
Elena was a really go professor and the course continue isn't that difficult. There is no curve so everyone in the class ended up doing pretty well. Get good homework grades and you'll be fine.
Let's just say that her teaching speed doesn't match to the questions she assigns you to do on homework and exams. A lot of times, you have to go to CLUE sessions or get help from the Math Study Center because she doesn't teach you the methods to solve certain problems, especially ones involving hardcore geometry and graphing. Don't take her class.
Elena pezzoli is probably the worst instructor I've ever had in any subject. She misuses terminology, the textbook she uses is useless at best, and she gets upset every time a student has a question. by week 3 almost half the class was regularly skipping lecture because you can learn more effectively on google. you're better off with the internet.
If you want to take a class where the professor explains everything incomprehensibly for 40 min and realizes her mistake in the last 5 min, then tries to fix it but explains it even worse the second time or leaves the class at a cliffhanger to be continued in the next lecture and never does, then go ahead.
This was the single worse class I have ever taken and solely because of Elena. The material wasn't necessarily difficult, but it was taught so poorly that my TA and other tutors HAD to help me because the lectures made no sense. The homework was actually absurd and took multiple hours to complete. I spent eight hours a week on the homework...
Her lectures are all over the place. She forgets to bring her notes and 5 minutes into problems realizes she messes up and doesn't know how... Won't let people ask questions in class ://Had to go to review sessions daily. After a week, half the class was regularly gone because her lectures DONT help. Overall, a bad experience. Don't take her class.
Elena is a really sweet woman, and was pretty available to students who needed extra help. Her class was a bit hard to track sometimes. There were problems we would spend alot of time on that werent that difficult, so we would end up quickly going over some of the harder ones. Iiked that she used an iPad for projecting the lecture notes
Lectures are unclear and difficult to follow, and she isn't great at explaining concepts. Tests are easier than other professors' but that also means the median is super high, so if you're confused about anything you'll struggle in the class.
I found her lectures okay for the most part. I honestly learned more from the youtube resources she suggested. I skipped 90% of lectures and her midterms were super easy compared to the practice ones, and were pretty basic in terms of content. She's a very nice professor and easy to talk to at her office hours. The curve is high though so beware!
Very smart. Went at a reasonable speed most of the time. Sometimes she would show a page of her work and explain really fast, so sometimes it didnt really help. Her handwriting isnt the best, but you get used to it. She tells you what are on midterms if you ask. Practice her old ones, they are super helpful. Not too hard of a class, just study
Lectures are unclear and hard to understand.
A great professor, and willing to discuss your question with you.
I thought the class was hard cause HW was graded harshly but she is very nice and I got an A at the end
Professor Pezolli is very knowledgeable and thoroughly explains all concepts. She's easily accessible outside of class and answers questions on Piazza pretty quick. Ive taken precal a couple times and failed miserably, but I truly feel as if I understand what I am doing. I attribute my success to her teaching abilities, no doubt.
Professor Pezolli is a really good professor. She drops your lowest three quiz and homework scores. She also does office hours twice a week. The quizzes are very similar to a webassign homework problems. There is no final. This class is very easy as long as you do the homework on time and study for quizzes.
Since there aren't any midterms/ finals the class is graded on weekly quizzes and homework. She allows for 3 quiz and hw drops too. I personally didn't go to lectures and was fine. She also tells you hw problems to study for the weekly quizzes and they're always similar to what she tells you. Not a difficult class if you put some work in.
Professor Pezzoli is amazing! Lectures were recorded and material was easy to follow. Her office hours are extremely helpful and she will answer your questions diligently. Watch the lectures, go to quiz section, and take time do complete the homework correctly and you will do well. There is a lot of homework but she drops your lowest scores.
Lots of homework, but allows for multiple quizzes/homeworks to be dropped. Really solid at teaching the material and lessons that are easy to follow. Even if you're bad at math, you can do well with some effort.
Much of this class was scaled down because of COVID and Professor Pezzoli was generous by allowing us to drop some of our lowest quizzes and assignments. She explains things very well and is open to any questions. It is important to not procrastinate on the homework though, because that can really stress you out and give you a bad grade.
I took this class online, and I was really grateful to have had Prof Pezzoli. Her lectures are prerecorded and very helpful. The tests are super easy and quick. There are lots of opportunities to ask questions (Piazza, office hours, etc).
She's a great professor and was super kind on grading even though it felt like I did awful on the lecture quizzes. The lecture quizzes for MATH 300 were difficult, and the homework took FOREVER. Be ready to spend all day, 3-8+ hours, for each weekly homework.
Class is rigorous and extremely difficult for freshmen. She is an excellent professor with teaching important concepts, but tests and hw are much harder than lecture problems. Expect 10+ hours a week outside of class, and recommend going to math study center weekly. I've heard 124 is easier due to the prof so take it instead!
Goes fast during lectures but always records explanations and answers questions outside of class
Teaches you the general basics of whatever you're learning and then throws you 3 chapters of homework and somehow you have to figure out how to finish all the homework with the little knowledge she taught. She is also very confusing to understand during lectures, also rushes through the material like there's no tomorrow.
Terrible class. Lectures consist of maybe 2 problems done on the board for an entire chapter and then you go home to usually two chapters of homework per week- which can take 10+ HOURS to complete. Material is not taught well at all, majority of the class extremely confused and lost, and midterms ARE TWO QUESTIONS!! Take my advice, skip to MATH124.
While lectures were long and her methods overcomplicated topics, her office hours, quiz sections, and homework all helped prepare you for midterms/tests. If you show up and do what you need to, class is fairly easy and she gives a lot of extra credit that helps you understand too.
Math should be an easy subject to teach. Teach the steps to solve problems, teach when to solve them, and you are done. Of course, Elena and most math professors have to make it impossible. Rushes through lectures with one or two problems at most completed. Tests only have two questions. Homework takes between 10-20 hrs per week and only worth 15%
Bad bad bad. Not precalc at all. You get a note sheet for the exams which is the only good thing in this class. This class takes hours to learn all by yourself and every math problem is a word problem. If you do not like difficult word problems then get another professor.
Don't take her for precalc if you can avoid it. Covers the bare minimum in lecture and then the rest is completely self-taught. Homework takes hours because you have to teach yourself how to solve the problems as you go. All exams are word problems and usually the hardest questions from the chapter. Very nice woman, not an easy class.
Prof Pezzoli provides a lot of extra credit, but assigns homework problems on WebAssign that are too complex and do more damage than learning. She has terrible handwriting that makes all the variables and numbers look the same and she sometimes teaches the problem wrong. I learned more on my own than attending her lectures so avoid her if you can.
This was the hardest class i've ever taken. I literally had to go to tutoring every single day for HOURS to understand the content because she didn't teach anything. The homework takes 10+ hrs ands she doesn't prepare you for the hw or tests at all. I actually had no free time bc of this class. You basically have to teach everything to yourself.
She’s so nice and her quizzes and exams are A LOT EASIER than any other professor for the same class!!
Took a class similar to this a few years ago. She was difficult to understand at times and methods here are different from my old college. When in doubt, ask yourself if you've used the quadratic equation yet. She's nice but tough for anyone who hasn't taken math in a while. However, if you plan to continue math, this is considered an easy class.
Great professor, truly caring about students. Always patiently answers my questions. Lecture notes are decent, covering important aspects of proofs of theorems.
Prof Pezzoli had difficult to follow lectures and I was definitely struggling throughout this whole class. The notes made no sense sometimes, but when meeting with her outside of class, she was extremely helpful and made sure I understood the problems we went over. I can tell she cares a lot, but sometimes it is hard to understand what is going on.
Professor Pezzoli shows a passion for teaching math. She provides recordings, worksheets, and extra credit- all things that allow you to excel in her class. The lectures can be a little fast but that's what the recordings are for. The homework can differ from the lecture problems but it covers the same concepts- going to the math center will help.
If you don't need to take math 120 DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS skip to 124, I didn't need this class I already had credit but took it as a refresher, I would have been better off just taking calc, waste of time, energy and money, lectures are useless, end up teaching yourself through textbook and WebAssign. And if your TA sucks you're in trouble
Prof. Pezzoli was pretty good overall. She explains things clearly in class and answers emails fairly quickly. She does midterm review before each exam and allows a note sheet. The exams are similar to the problems she reviews in class so pay attention. Lectures are recorded and she offers videos to help with homework. (also she has extra credit!)
Homework assignment every week. 3 midterms spread out every 2-3 weeks. Lectures are hard to understand since she rambles about random concepts so you're unsure on what you should study. Homework helps A LOT, do hw. Midterms are manageable since theyre only 2 problems but go to the lecture the day before, she reviews the problems on the midterm.
As someone who considers themselves to be 'bad at math', I did about as well as I expected in this class. The lectures were very confusing and the textbook wording was weird at times. The study guides and the mandatory quiz sections were what saved me. There are three midterms (lowest score gets dropped), lots of homework, and one cumulative final.
Prof Elena does a good job explaining the topics in the lecture, and she posts recordings and lecture notes in modules which is helpful. She does that thing where she will skip certain steps/gloss over things that made me lost. The midterms aren't bad at all, and there's example problems. The final was evil. Study for it as the quarter progresses.
She really makes an effort to teach the subject well. Gives good explanations and provides videos outside of class that make reviewing, homework, or catching up easy. The class is hard to study for without going to lecture because of the methods used, so attendance matters, but she's a great professor to have for this class.
The worst teacher I ever had in my entire life. Can't understand a thing she lectured, her midterms are okay but final was HELL. Everyone failed her final and she want to send out an email saying she's disappointed, I'm disappointed in her. Wouldn't recommend taking this class or this professor unless it's required for your major.
While I did get a good grade in this class let me tell you she cannot teach very well. You better hope your TA is amazing like mine was and basically the use the past midterms to guide you for the tests. The final this year was not like any other past finals
Can be hard to understand at times, especially with fast pace. Be prepared to study on your own time. Finals were handled extremely poorly and information on what would be tested was misleading. Study everything because even if they say the finals will look like the midterms, they will not.
Lectures were good but slow. She wasn't great at answering questions though. Tests never felt too hard and the practice material was really relevant. A lot of the other math 208 professors aren't very good so if you can switch to her section, do it.
Lecture is fast paced and homeworks are given out every week. Homeworks try to just mess you up with hideous numbers. Never seen a math question that tells me to round up to 7 digits of decimals. She has bad handwriting so you will need to study at home to get good grades. She & the TA were very kind and helpful though.
Her lectures aren't the most helpful. The only times I would suggest going to her lectures is when midterms are the next day, that's when she would review questions that would be pretty similar to the exam. I suggest going to tutoring centers or making study groups to learn, and practicing/repetition.
She is very clearly skilled in math. However, she cannot teach it very well. Her lectures are her just doing problems and not explaining what she is doing. She skips basic steps and it is very easy to get lost. The midterms weren't too bad but the final exam was impossible. Everyone I know failed and it brought my grade down tremendously.
The classroom she taught in was not one where lectures can be recorded, but she actually went out of her way to record the lectures herself using her iPad, which is something I have never heard of any other profs doing. She is kind when you get help from her, she does a lot of example problems, and her tests are not very difficult.
Pezzoli is great. Tough on the outside but really wants her students to succeed, and very approachable in that manor. Took her my first quarter as a freshman and was honestly pretty easy. Aced every midterm (she will basically tell you what's on it the day before), and final wasn't that bad. Great TA too.
Lecture can be slow sometimes but I don't mind it lol. Overall very great professor and goes super lengthy into reasoning which I don't mind again. Very responsive on Piazza. Lecture notes are also very easy to digest. Reasonable difficulty on midterm. Had better experience in with math 318 than math 208. because of the better resources.
Professor Pezzoli was a great professor for 208! I'd definitely recommend taking her class if you can. She's really nice and approachable in office hours and gives good explanations in lecture. You can tell she wants her students to succeed!
Lectures weren't that great but they weren't mandatory, I took notes on the textbook (which I found online) and I was fine. Midterms and final are all pretty easy compared to other profs. Weekly quizzes but they're pretty easy (same with Webassign)
Pezzoli was very lenient with grading and her tests were of reasonable difficulty. Her lectures sometimes move slowly, but they are recorded and she is always comprehensive.
Great, knowledgeable, flexible professor. Quite a bit of work for a 3-cred class, but WebAssign HW are straightforward and conceptual HW gives a deep understanding of the content. Opportunity for extra credit with discussion posts (in the end e.c. could raise your grade by 0.2). Weird critique, but she's often prone to typos. Overall def recommend
I took math 318 in WI 2023. The class was not easy. Pezzoli went through the contents really fast, and her notes are confusing sometimes. Homework was hard and took a lot of time. Discussion sessions help a lot with both contacts and homework. Her TA Maddie was great. Exams were predictable and easy.
Had a 4.0 the entire quarter, and got a perfect score on one of the two midterms. In the final recognized almost nothing and felt very unprepared. My grade dropped to a 3.4 because of the one final. she barely prepared us for the final.
This is a no.
This professor seems like a wonderful lady, but her course was very difficult. I took Math 120 (pre-calc) with her, and the lectures were incredibly hard to understand. The material covered in lecture and in the textbook are extremely difficult to apply to web assign, midterms, and the final.
She is very nice, but the class is can be difficult to follow as you are often working on a different chapter in the lecture, quiz section, and on the homework. Would highly recommend going to all quiz sections and office hours. Not impossible to succeed, but it can be grueling. Her lectures are fast-paced and sometimes hard to follow.
She gives LOTS of opprotunities for extra credit. The midterms and final exam were familiar to the homework/examples, but they did have some unfamiliar questions. It's very possible to succeed, I buried myself in example problems and actively used the textbook for help. She's a decent professor, but most of my learning was from TAs/tutors/myself.
This course was unnecessarily difficult for the material it covered, I had taken pre-calc twice before this, and still found myself confused by the lectures. She is nice, lectures are recorded, and extra credit is given out, but at the core of it I feel I wasted my money taking this course, and would've saved myself time by just jumping to calc.
The lectures were very hard to follow most of the time; she explains concepts in a very unnecessarily complicated way and makes it more confusing. Almost all of my learning was from my TA and having to self learn the material. Midterm reviews were in class but new material that we hadn't gone over would be on them. Lectures were weeks ahead of hw.
The quiz section, book, lectures, and HW were all out of sync and lacking in direction. I was left stumped on how to study for exams and ended up teaching myself with the help of my TA (shout out Josh) and the IC. Also, we would be learning something that was either way too simple or weeks ahead. Avoid unless you feel you need the math refresher!
Although attendance is not required, the lectures are extremely boring, and her questionable english is sometimes difficult to understand, which can be on exams too. There are a lot of spelling and grammar errors. Although she puts assignments on canvas, it is pretty messy and things are hard to find.
The class and material were quite difficult to comprehend. Elena's lectures were very hard to follow as she often jumps topic to topic and her explanations were often confusing. This was especially true if you were on paper and pencil since there's so much information you'd need to write down. The only redeeming factor is that she's really nice.
Easy grade and there are a lot of extra credits, so as long as you put in a little effort, you can get high grade. If you read all the homework answers and notes, you will basically know all the knowledge points required for the exam questions. Definitely recommending this professor, she is really nice and caring.
Midterms and HWs are ok, but final exam was surprisingly difficult. Though she was caring & accessible outside class, her lectures were disorganized with messy handwriting, went through slides too fast, & liked to skip certain topics and proofs. Occasional Poll everywhere questions were ambiguous and ill-designed.
First midterm was god awful and most people failed bad, then from there they progressively got easier. The final honestly wasn't too bad at all. I never went to lectures because to me they were useless and I learned more teaching myself and using the modules. She ended up dropping lowest midterm score which saved my grade bc i bombed the first.
I wouldn't recommend this prof since they weren't that good at teaching but made the exams extremely hard.
Professor Pezzoli's lectures can be tough to follow, but her use of Unstuck ai and other digital tools helped me stay on top of the material. With TA support and self-study, I managed to do well in this challenging but rewarding course.
I would not recommend her for math 125. She said she has not taught this subject in a while so she wasn't very good at explaining things thoroughly. Lots of homework, tough exams. I had to reteach myself some of the things she taught. Spent so much time outside of class trying to understand everything.
She was an alright professor. She explained things ok in lectures, but the homework would be more difficult and on stuff we barely talked about. The extra videos she posted on how to do problems were really helpful though. Practice past exams, as the midterms/final were the exact same difficulty, if not easier, as those.
I really liked Professor Pezzoli! Web assign homework is really hard sometimes but if you go to her office hours she explains really well and she cares a lot about your learning. Do a ton of practice midterms and practice finals for the exams.
Her lectures are drowsy. I don't think I really got a lot of useful stuff out of her lecture. Most of it is up to you to learn on your own. Assignments need to be paid for to be written and are difficult. Of course if you ask her during office hours she is happy to answer. Other than that, her midterms and finals are pretty easy.
The lectures didn't help my understanding at all. The homework assignments were extremely difficult and required lots of creativity and self learning to complete. The only reason I did well in the class was because I spent 15 hours a week with a private tutor who explained everything to me.
She interacted with students in and out of class. The lectures were pre-uploaded so you could review before class and follow along. She tried to make the examples interesting and has plenty of office hours available. If you can, I definitely recommend going to them because she explains the topics much better individually. Overall, very nice.
This was a very challenging class, there's a reason they call it a "weed out" class. I had no idea, and just needed to get my math credits done. This professor is not readily available outside of class, and can be slightly condescending towards people who are struggling. I would watch the lectures and go to the IC, they are much more helpful.
Pezzoli is a really sweet person, but her lectures were very monotone and I found it hard to focus. She went slower than I thought was necessary, causing us to fall behind the other 125 class and not allowing much time for review in class like she planned. The WebAssigns varied in difficulty, but many were time-consuming. Do old tests for practice!
I would recommend not taking this professor's classes because she's near impossible to understand.
She was pretty nice! Warning: her A's and E's look the same, and her handwriting isn't the best. She has an Italian accent, but overall, I could understand her for the most part. DO THE WEBASSIGNS!! They probably helped me the most. She has really great online resources and made like so many videos explaining the math.
very hard working and thoughtful!
Dr. Pezzoli did an amazing job at teaching this course! At the start of the quarter, she shared with us that the last time she taught this class was before the pandemic, but she managed to lead this class effectively. Exams were fair and not too complex, and she is very friendly! The content was still fast paced and hard to grasp at first.
she was really bad im ngl like her hand writing was hard to read and her accent lowkey annoying/hard to understand. didnt do much teaching imo like i had to teach it to myself
One of the worst professors I've had. Did not grade fairly on exams. Got points taken off due to a printing error, for example. I also didn't do a problem "her way" so she counted it wrong. Don't believe her when she says "these topics will be on the exam." No matter how hard I study I'm always left confused. She's not good at explaining either.
she's a good professor who's really responsive on the class discussion and willing to help. also her exams are not too hard compared to other profs in the exam archive which is good for the midterms but makes the common final look very hard in contrast.
Her writing isn't the best and her teaching style can be confusing. However, she is very accommodating and truly wants to see her students pass. She was super flexible with grading: changed grade weights, curved the class, etc. My recommendation is to supplement her lectures with youtube videos in order to understand the topics more clearly.
her teaching isnt the best but she is very flexible with grading and generous with giving extra credit, she definitely wants her student to pass and encourages them to attend her office hours. she also sent a list of topics to study for the final, posted extra resources, and gave a full page on how to pass finals
Just overall bad at teaching. I only learned stuff from the textbook, and I generally love lecture. She was so unhelpful - seemed like she had no idea what she was talking about during lecture. Test difficulty was fine, but generally did not correlate to what she taught in class.
Elena is a great mathematician with impressive intuition, but she forgets sometimes that us students don't have that yet. She is so nice and a great teacher and available if you take advantage. These bad reviews are unfair and her accent is charming. Some ppl clearly don't have much experience with foreigners. I recommend the class, after precalc.
She is kind and truly wants her students to succeed. Always willing to help outside of class, open to feedback, and very knowledgeable. Midterms were fair and much easier than the final (the final was tough). 124 is challenging, study A LOT. Use the 124 archive + supplement some lectures with YouTube videos. Lots of extra credit too!
Very generous w/ extra credit & curve, midterms aren't too bad, but final was abysmal (~35% avg). Lecture was kinda confusing bc she tends to skip over steps. Webassign is very tedious, & sometimes felt irrelevant to lecture. Practice the old exams, supplement learning w/o outside resources, & DO NOT FALL BEHIND! A decent prof, but not the best.
Very accessible outside of class and provides various extra credit opportunities. her midterms however seemed wildly easy in comparison to the final exam, and i think an average of 32.0 on any final reflects inadequate teaching of a subject. teaching of concepts sometimes felt oversimplified, using outside resources is helpful
The averages were 28.96 out of 44 for midterm 1, 28.55 out of 44 for midterm 2, and 42.58 out of 90 for the final. Her 5-10 min prerecorded lessons were the only helpful thing to teach us, lectures didn't really do anything to support learning. Does not explain her process thoroughly in lecture. No difference in explanation when asked to clarify.
The curve is very generous but I feel that if a class needs to be curved so much that a 50% results in a 2.0, there needs to be a change. The final was incredibly tough and lectures just weren't that useful because she keeps skipping steps when showing us how to apply a topic. She's a nice professor but her teaching isn't the best.
Dr. Pezzoli is overall a nice professor and great person, however I wouldn't recommend taking her class unless you have a REALLY (I mean extremely knowledgeable) Pre-calculus/Algebra II foundation. While doing in-lecture problems she would often skip steps assuming that students would be able to always follow along.
Her way of teaching is okay, she just goes off the assumption that everyone has the same background knowledge needed for the content. She skips steps a lot and generally just not enjoyable. The examples used in class are NOT on the same level of questions used on the hw lmao coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb bruh
Her teaching during lectures is extremely fast and assumes you already have a good understanding of the material. Thankfully, she gives plenty of materials for extra study / outside review. Overall, a tough class that was manageable thanks to her efficient and well-organized teaching style.
Professor is super sweet and provides a good amount of resources and practice outside of lectures, but is extremely hard to follow during lecture. Lots of self teaching, lectures go super fast and are slightly disorganized. god do not take this class unless you really really know algebra.
very hard to understand. lectures are all over the place. midterms are pretty chill but final is not. love her glitter shirt.
Elena had good lectures. One problem I had with the class was how test heavy it is. The two midterms are relativley easy but are a large portion of your grade, and the final WILL kill you (super difficult). Overall decent prof who will explain math better than highschool teachers, but either way its a very hard course. My TA was a useless nonce btw
Pezzoli is fairly good. Her lectures can be confusing and the amount of homework assigned in her class could be described as soul crushing, but her office hours are helpful and she really genuinely tries her best to explain the content to students. Use the textbook, attend lectures, and keep up with the homework, videos, readings, etc.
Professor Pezzoli is naturally very caring, and she will answer questions if you are confused, but don't mistaken that for an easy. She goes by material quick, and assumes you have a solid foundation on previous foundation courses(Trig, Log properties, etc.) My advice if you are confused is to go on YouTube to go more in depth with the material.
Everything very clear during lecture (accent/handwriting no problem), she stops to clarify questions as needed, posts lecture notes, and even posts hw hints for tricky problems. There were 2-3 hours of hw/week and midterms reflected content well. Attendance not mandatory, but is tracked via PollEverywhere and added as extra credit to final grade!
W Professor W TA group (W Nelson) they are the goat. I got 8 points back from midterm regrading. W ping pong survey which gave me 4 extra points from midterms. Excellent curve at the end also.
Pezzoli is caring and answers questions in lecture. She is a great mathematician herself but I think sometimes she struggles convey concepts. Lectures are a little all over the place and require very good algebra skills. Grading is better than other 125 profs. Midterms are easier, there's more extra credit, but the final is still very difficult.
She was very nice and gave us extra credit opportunities to help boost our grades, which was definitely helpful since the majority of our grade was determined by the midterms and final. However, it is important to have a strong foundation in calc 1 (math 124) concepts before taking this class!
Gave us many extra credit opportunities at the end of the quarter, which helped a lot since 80% of the grade is based on midterms and finals. The class is very fast paced, with each lecture introducing new concepts and techniques without much in class practice. However the math department releases a lot of old tests which are helpful before an exam
Prof seemed to care when reached out to out-of-class. She even popped our my quiz section one time and I asked her a question while my TA was helping another group. She was willing to help. No complaints; class is rigorous, but as expected from the calc series I would say. All in all, appreciated her for 124. Personally liked her teaching style.
